Speaker 1 (00:00):
Order Up, What Up? Friends?

Speaker 2 (00:03):
I based in the courtroom this week with another case
in Key Key Court the podcast Now Listen. This case
did not make it on air, but I still need
to get your opinion. Now.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
I'm gonna give you the case.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
If you're new here, I post a video on Instagram
TikTok all the places for you to leave your response
in the comments because you are the jury, okay, and
I be needing my jury because sometimes I'll be on
the wrong side of history. But you know me, you
know your friend. Anyway, let's get into today's case. It says, hey,
ki Key, am I wrong for refusing to split my

(00:36):
grandmother's inheritance evenly with my siblings because I was the
only one that took care of her. My grandmother passed
away recently and left me twenty five thousand dollars in
her will. She specifically named me as the beneficiary and
not my siblings for context. I was the one who
lived closest to her. I took her to her doctor's appointments,

(00:57):
I cleaned her house, I did her grocery shop, and
basically spent every weekend helping her for the last four years. Now,
my siblings they rarely visited Grandma. They only came by
on holidays if that well. When the will was read,
my siblings freaked out and said that it's unfair that
I get everything while they get nothing. They think I

(01:20):
should split it evenly three ways because we're a family.
I told them no, Grandma made that choice for a reason,
and honestly, I feel like I earned it. Now they're
calling me greedy and saying that I'm tearing the family apart.
My mom is trying to stay neutral, but she keeps
dropping little hints like, oh, sharing it would be nice,

(01:41):
and sharing it would keep the peace in the family.
I don't feel guilty, but everyone else seems to think
that I should just give in and split the money
that my grandmother left for me. Am I wrong for
keeping the inheritance to myself instead of splitting it? If
it all went down the way you just described it
in this email, baby girl, you are not wrong.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
You are not wrong at all.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Grandma knew exactly what she was doing when she set
up her paperwork before she passed away. She knew who
she wanted to leave things to. She knew she wanted
to give you twenty five thousand dollars, and she knew
that your siblings hadn't done anything to help her. So
Grandma was aware of all of that, and Grandma knew
exactly who she wanted to leave the money for. If

(02:25):
Grandma wanted the money to be split three ways, she
would have written that, but instead she said, no, all
of the money goes to you. And if it's true
that you're the one who was taking care of her,
you're the one who was helping her out in her
last years, then you deserved that money and you shouldn't
be made to feel bad about it. This happens in families.
I feel like all the time where you know, somebody

(02:46):
gets older and there's always one family member who all
of the responsibility seems to fall on. And it could
be because they're, like you said, the one that lives closest,
or they're the most responsible one, or you know, they're
the one who's financially stable and they helped pay for
people to help grandma.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Whatever the case can be.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
There's always this type of situation where you know one
sibling is more responsible and more helpful to the older
elders in the family, and then when they get to
that point in life, the older elders seem to readjust
their wills and things to make sure that that person
is taken care of. And I don't think that Grandma
made a mistake. And I don't think this you're wrong

(03:26):
for accepting what your grandmother left you, you know, And
I think your siblings have a lot of nerve to
be thinking that they deserve something that was not gifted
to them.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
It just wasn't.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
So it would be different if Grandma died and there
was no will and then there was just money there
and you all, you know, you just decided to take
it upon yourself.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
That would be totally different.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
But in this case, I feel like Grandma made the
decision before she left us. May she rest in peace,
and her wishes need to be honored in this state.
So I don't think you're wrong. I don't think you're
wrong at all. And if I was the one running
around doing everything, my siblings wouldn't get a thing. I'm
just gonna be honest. I'm getting choked up over Grandma anyway. Friend,

(04:10):
you are not wrong in my opinion, but of course
I will. You know the jury is listening, so let
me know your thoughts. Hit my Instagram at on air
Kiki or of course fred Shall Radio. Follow us and
we'll be back next week with more cases in the courtroom.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
