Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's up? Ordanly right?

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Happy the court role? You already know it is the
Key Key Court podcast. Welcome, Welcome, Welcome. Let's get into
this additional case this week because I'm going to be
on vacation next week, so we won't have any bonus episodes.
But as soon as I come back, you already know,
you already know. So let me read this case because
this one has me a little triggered. But of course

(00:23):
I will always want to know what you think you are.
The jury now it says, hey, kikey, am I wrong
for refusing to let my sister's kids stay at my
house even though she's struggling financially. I have a sister, Emma,
who has three kids, ages five, seven, and ten. Over
the past year, she's been going through some tough financial times.

(00:46):
Her husband recently lost his job, and they've been struggling
to make ends meet. I know it's been hard on her,
but I've tried to help as much as I can.
But if I'm being honest, it's becoming overwhelming. A few
weeks ago, she asks me if her keys could stay
with me for a week while on summer break. She
said her husband and no, she said she and her

(01:06):
husband are trying to figure out their finances and that
they really needed a break from the stress of everything.
She said it would help them focus on their situation.
I told her that while I understand her stress, I
just don't have the space, energy, or time to take
on three kids right now. My apartment is small, and

(01:28):
I'm in the middle of a pretty intense work project.
Plus i have personal things going on that I'm not
even gonna share. She was really upset and accused me
of not caring about her or the kids. She said
I should be more supportive and that as a family,
I should be willing to make sacrifices. I get that
she's struggling, but I don't feel like it's my responsibility

(01:52):
to take on the burden of her children, especially when
I'm already stressed myself. I offered to help another way,
like sending them a little extra cash for some groceries,
but she insisted that that is not the same. Now
my other family members are getting involved and they're upset
with me, saying that I'm selfish and cold hearted, and

(02:13):
I just feel like I chose not to have children
and this is the exact reason why it's not my
a duty to take care of her kids.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Am I wrong? Girl? Girl?

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Here's what really triggered me from the beginning when you
started the story off by saying, my sister's kids, you're
their aunt. You know you're their aunts, So it's not
my sister's kids, it's my niece and nephews like that.
From that moment, I was like, Okay, there's a disconnect here,
and I don't know the relationship between you and your family.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
So I understand that you have your own stress in life.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
You have made the choice not to have children, so no,
it is not your responsibility to take on her issues. However,
as an aunt, as a sister, she's only asking if
the kids can come for a week.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
That's like seven days, okay a week.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
I personally would make the sacrifice to be there for
my nieces and my nephews, and I wouldn't be calling
them my sister's kids. It would be my niece. I'm
there for my nieces and my nephews. What can I
do to help? You know, they're in a really stressful situation.
And I understand you offered up a little extra grocery money,
but your sister needs a break, and that's what she's asking,

(03:29):
and maybe she doesn't trust other family members with the kids.
Maybe she just trusts you because you are their aunt.
So I would have made the sacrifice and did whatever
I could to open up my house, open up my
extra bedroom, whatever to my nieces and nephews, with no
questions asks like when it comes to my nephews, you
know what, don't don't ever let it come to my nephews. Okay,

(03:52):
it would be no questions asked for me. Absolutely they
can come for a week. Absolutely, I'm gonna make the
sacrifices to help my family.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
But you had, like you said, you have created a
life that is comfortable for you. You don't have children,
you don't want children, and you don't want anything to.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Do with these kids. So that's your prerogative.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
But in my opinion, just in my opinion, I think
it's a little coldhearted, not gonna lie, you know, and
you just I don't know, calling them your sister's kids.
It just seems like you're not even connected to them
as an aunt. You don't maybe don't even take the role,
aren't seriously, But if it was me, I would absolutely
allow my nieces and nephews to stay with me for

(04:35):
a week to give my sister and brother in law
a break. That is just me, but that's my opinion.
Of course, you are the jewelry friends, so I would
love to know your thoughts on this. I posted a
video on my Instagram at on air Keiki k ek
E also on at Fred Show Radio. Let me know
your thoughts on this case. Hopefully we can help her.
I'm not judging you, sis, I just think you, you know,

(04:59):
could be a little bit warmer to your nieces and nephews,
So let me know your thoughts. In the meantime, of course,
we'll be back in the court room soon. I'm going
to Hawaii with my sister for her birthday, so I'll
be out for a few days. But after that, you
already know, back to business. I can't stay away from
you too long, Okay, love your friend.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
Let me know what you think.
