Speaker 1 (00:00):
Here blog. Have you ever had to go to an
event to celebrate someone who you did not know at all?
Have you ever had to go to a funeral for
someone who you did not know at all? A wedding
for someone that you did not know at all? So
I went to Marion Corbundale over the makend to see

(00:23):
our friends. We have many friends. We have Doug, we
have Dennis. We have many friends, Sadie. We have many
friends in southern Illinois. They do and it's actually a
lot of fun on it. They got stuff to do,
they got they about wineries. I went to the wineries
that you guys went to. I was at the breweries.
Maybe I got the bread. I don't know if I
got the bread. I ate some bread. They got lake

(00:45):
at Egypt Down. They got lots of stuff to do
in southern Illinois, if you're so inclined. But I went
to hang out with Dennis, and on Dennis's already planned
schedule on his bingo card, was to go to a
guy's retire hirement party at the SIU Law School. He
was a professor of former dean. He was retiring. I've

(01:06):
never met this guy. Name is Peter Alexander. Never met
the guy, don't know anything about him. And I'm like,
off retirement party. I guess it's at a bar or something.
I don't know, like stuff by no, no, no. It
was at the law school and it was like esteemed
colleagues and students and like everybody was in blazers and
I was not. And I met this man's retirement party.
And I didn't realize is that we came just in
time for the speeches. Oh no, now I didn't have

(01:27):
to I didn't have to give one. But it's funny
because the dude came over, I introduced myself. I didn't
even know that it was his party because I didn't know.
I don't know this man, never met him. So I'm like, hey,
how you doing it? I'm fred I don't know that
I'm meeting the man of the hour. And he's like,
oh yeah, yeah, he's pretending to know me because I'm
at his party, so obviously I know him. But you
could tell he was being cordial. But he's looking at

(01:49):
me like, I know, I didn't teach you anything, you
know what I mean. But here's the point is that
I'm listening to people speak about this guy and he
sounds like an amazing being that I would like to
be friends with. And I don't even know him. But
you've got former students, you've got former faculty, You've got
the dean of this school up there talking about this guy,

(02:10):
and I'm like, this guy sounds amazing. I kind of
wish I knew the man who's retirement party I was attending,
but I just wasn't sure if any of you have
ever been to anything like that where you're going these
people seem great or that dead person would have been
a great person to know, right, I'm sorry they're dead.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Yeah, Like I mean, I went to a funeral. It's sad,
it's my my neighbor's mom passed away, But the way
they talked about her and all that, and I'm like,
I would have loved to just have like a night
just partying with her, right, And I didn't get that opportunity.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
I want to hang with this guy, and luckily he's
still alive, so as possible.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Yeah, yeah, get his number. I brought my best friend
Hillary to a going away party and she was a
little overserved and she is the shyest person you guys,
haven't matter. She's quiet, she got up, gave a speech
and cried, oh my god about the person that she
didn't and I literally was like, oh my god, she's
gonna regret this in the morning, know the person.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
She still gave a speed I ever met the.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Person and gave a beautiful speech and got emotional and
I really am seeming there like you are not gonna
believe you did this tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
It was hysterical.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Wi yest person so that.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
But I'm just like, you know, I'm like shaking hands,
meeting people or whatever. And then I realized that the
man I just met is the guy who's party I'm attended.
And I didn't eat any of the food or drink
any of the drink because I was not I didn't
deserve that, Okay, But I met a lot of nice people.
And this dude, Peter Alexander, I can't wait for his retirement. Man,
he's gonna do it. He's written books, he's a lawyer,
he's a law professor. Very interesting guy. His mom was there,

(03:38):
got to she's a wonderful lady. And the way people
were talking about this dude, I'm like, I want to
be friends with him, So hopefully I get to meet
like meeting for real someday, but you could tell it
was one of those things where it's like he's looking
at me and everybody there was like intimately involved in
this guy's life in one way or another, and he's

(03:59):
looking me like, oh, yeah, I get to see a game.
I've never seen you. I have no I didn't even
know it was your day. But I hope we can
have a beer someday. I do because he seems like
a great guy, and I wish him. I wish him
the best in his retirement, but thanks for letting me
gratch him like I wrote books and stuff who inspired
many many lawyers. He could have worried. I think he
did work in fancy schools. And then he adds amazing
