Speaker 1 (00:00):
Like we do every Monday at eight eighteen, we give
you our hero and our hero from the weekend. This
doesn't have to be an athlete, although Trent and I
kind of I gotta admit, I don't think we've done
one that hasn't been an athlete.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
I've got one today.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Oh good, Okay. So it doesn't have to be an athlete,
doesn't have to be a team, but it can be
a general manager. It could be a league, it could
be a conference in college athletics, it could be a
lot of different stuff. Here's my hero. It's Miko Rattnan.
He's from the Dallas Stars. In case you were wondering,
(00:34):
Stars were down two zip in the third to Colorado
in Game seven. It looked I mean Nathan McKinnon had
just scored, and it looked like this game was over
ranton in the former Avs player scored three times and
assisted on the fourth goal in the period. Stars wanted
four to two to advance to the conference semi finals.
Rattnan had played seven seasons in Colorado, won a Cup
(00:57):
with the Abs called those players still, many of them
his brothers. It was the second straight game that Rattnan
had scored or tallied four points in a period, not
in a game, but in a period the third period
in Game seven, ended up with five goals seven assists
in the seven game series. He also assured his coach,
(01:18):
Peter de Boor to stay perfect in Game seven. Debor
is now nine to zero all time in decisive game sevens.
No one has ever done that. No one in NHL
history has ever done that. It's not even close. Meanwhile,
Colorado now has dropped seven straight game sevens. No team
(01:43):
in history, and I mean not just NHL history, I
mean the NBA. There's no game seven in NFL or
Major League Baseball. No team in hockey, baseball or basketball
has ever done that, but Colorado Avalanche now has. So
my hero the Stars and Miko Retina specifically on this Monday,
(02:06):
how about you.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Like you say, Shep, this doesn't necessarily need to be
sports related, so I'll self indulge a little bit. Over
the weekend, I went to a Metallica concert in Nashville, Tennessee,
and Metallica rocked the house. They were incredible. They're doing
this no repeat weekend tour where they play on a
Thursday and a Saturday, two completely unique set lists. I
was lucky to get the Enter Sandman Show and it
(02:30):
was amazing. We were on the floor. We were probably
twenty yards away from the guys. They've got this incredible
the stage shep it's like a ring, so they walk
around the ring so that they can actually see everybody.
It's in the middle of the Sea Bridgetone Arena. It
was at Nissan Stadium, where the Titans play. So just
phenomenal stuff. I mean, if you like rock music, you
(02:52):
probably like Metallica or you at least know two or
three or four or five or ten songs. And they
rocked it. It was incredible. And those are in.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Their sixties and they're still Why Nashville, I mean, how
come you didn't go someplace where they were playing closer.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Well, my little brother lives there, for one so it
was a good chance to kill two birds with one stone.
And uh yeah, I went with two of my best
friends from college. It was great.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
That is fantastic. When did you go down Friday?
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Went down Friday? Yep, got back here last night.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Had you ever been to Nashville? Oh?
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Yeah, I lived there for seven months.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
I don't think I've tontioned that. I think I think
Nashville is an awesome city. I think young people like
if I were single, that's where i'd be headed. I
love that place. It's a party, it's awesome. There's so
much to do there. It's a great That's a really
good one. All right, here's my heel James Harden. He
and the Clippers had two chances to close out Denver
(03:48):
but failed, including getting blown out in Game seven one
to one oh one. Harden took just eight shots and
scored only seven points in Game seven. In fact, in
his last thirteen elimination games, James hard is James Harden
(04:09):
is averaging thirteen points and shooting thirty eight percent. Think
about that for a moment. For in his last five
elimination games, I'm sorry, I said. In his last thirteen
elimination games, he shot thirty nine percent and his teams
are two and eleven. That's what it is. His teams
(04:29):
are two and eleven in his last thirteen elimination games,
and he's shooting thirty nine percent. In his last five,
he's shooting thirty eight percent and averaging thirteen points. He
has scored. He has scored fewer than twenty points in
those games. Twelve of twenty six times. Perspective. Steph Curry
(04:53):
has scored twenty or more in all but one of
his elimination games. Lebron James has never scored under twenty
in any of his twenty nine elimination games. Kevin Durant
has been held under twenty just once in his career
(05:13):
elimination games. I used to have this debate with people
I worked with doing Pistons games, and they loved James Harden,
who seems like he can score almost as well. I
think he's a one dimensional player. I hate that he
doesn't play defense. He does have unlimited range. I don't
want players like that personally, but it's amazing to me
(05:38):
how small he's come up in the biggest games in
his career, including over the weekend against Denver. He's my heel.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
That is a great pick chep, and I'm going to
stay in hoops and hold another star player accountable. Jalen Green.
I know Pistons fans don't like him because of some
of the things he said. When the Pistons took Cad
Cunningham over Jalen Green in twenty twenty one, seems like
they very clearly made the right call there. Green was
got awful in that first round series against Golden State,
aside from his thirty eight point Game two, which obviously
(06:09):
that's a great performance. Yeah, credit where credits due, But
in the other six games he shot a combined nineteen
for sixty one. He was held to single digit points
four times in the series, and for the record, in
the regular season, he was a twenty one point per
game guy, shooting forty three percent. So he's a good player.
He's got national wingstop commercials. You know he's a good player.
(06:31):
He was awful in the series, and like you just
said about Harden, we got to hold our stars accountable.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
I'm giving Jalen Green my heel for the weekend. That's
a good one. He averaged thirteen points in the series.
He averaged twenty one points during the regular season. That
type of dropoff is inexcusable. Now here's the other thing.
Though he's a young player, He's worthy of the heel
(06:58):
for sure. I don't know what is expected of a
guy like like. It's it's weird if the Pistons are
playing in their first series playoff series and Jalen Green
is too, Why are we not a little bit more
lenient toward I'm not saying you because I think I
think it's very appropriate. Sorry, Siria, I mean talking about
(07:20):
the series, I don't there were times where Kid Cunningham
Wasn't it his greatest either, right.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
In the Yeah, I get that. I guess my point
here is more like you said, he averaged thirteen for
the series, but that's with a thirty eight point game two.
I mean he had nine points eight point seven.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
That tells you, That tells you he was brutal. Yeah,
I'm not shooting it. Well here here here's the other. Yeah,
I was just gonna say, here's the other thing. It's
the field goal percentage. How bad it was too. It's
not like he's really hard for them to win without
him playing well, just like it'ld be really hard for
the Pistons to win without Cad Cunningham. Correct. So good one.
(08:01):
That's a really good one. And yeah, I think I
think a lot of that has to do with what
you initially said. Piston's fans upset that what he said
about them for taking Cap cunning in. Why do we care?
Why does that bother? We don't bother anybody. Players all
the time do that constantly. You're gonna be You're gonna
(08:23):
be sorry if you pass on me. Cam Ward says
that people are like good for you, you know, I
mean you've got that, you know, all this stuff Shador
Sanders is now that stoke the fire and all of
a sudden, Jalen Green says it to our team, and
we're like, how dare you? Why would you say something
like you're right? It is. It's ridiculous.
