Speaker 1 (00:00):
We have it for you. Every Monday, eight eighteen, we

(00:02):
give you the best and the worst of the weekend.
My hero this week, my hero is the Rocket Classic.
Such a good event, done so well by the great
people at Rocket and the hundreds of volunteers. I said
this earlier. I walked the course on Saturday with my son,
spent the day there. Detroit Golf Club was in such

(00:24):
great shape. It's so well run. This was their deepest
big name field since hosting the event. Over the last
seven years. You had a lot of big names out there.
And I give former Michigan State Athletic Director Mark Hollis
a ton of credit. He's the guy who went to

(00:46):
the PGA. He won't tell you this, but I've got
it from very reliable sources. He's the guy who went
to the PGA and said, you know what, you want
this event to continue. You want this in the inner city.
You sit there and you preach about for T programs,
and you preach about this, that and the other thing.
You want this. Start telling your guys to participate in
this event because it's getting ridiculous that we've got just

(01:11):
a couple of names that people recognize. And we talked
about that earlier in the show. These recognizable names is
what puts fannies in the seats, what brings people through
the gates and makes them successful. And though many people
think it's an easy course for the pros to navigate,
many of the biggest names didn't even make the cut.
By the way, Wyndham Clark, Max Homa, Ricky Fowler, Tom Kim,

(01:37):
Cam Davis, who's won it twice, Danny Willett all failed
to advance to the weekend thrilling tournament that featured three
men in a playoff. Detroit shined in a big event
yet again. I hope it continues. I hope it gets better.
And I'm really happy and proud that CBS and so

(02:00):
many of theirs commentators mentioned what a great event it
truly is, so I appreciate that. I'm sure they say
that about every single event. They'll say it about the
John Deere, Okay, they will. They said it about the Travelers,
They'll say it about the John Deere this coming weekend
in Illinois. But at least they're not looking at it
like it's a bit of a joke and that it's
too easy. Instead they talk about I like it. Trent

(02:23):
I like the trees down the side where you can
get in some trouble. I was on whole number. I
think it's I don't know if it's four or five,
but I was falling Minwoo Lee and his playing partner
Peter Molnari I think was his last name. I don't

(02:44):
expect you to remember that name. Well, dude, he launches
a drive that no, I'm sorry, I was right in
front of his ball was his second shot. Its part five.
He hits a three wood. I was from here to
I mean five feet away, launches and he smokes it
and it looks so good. Hits a tree and drops.

(03:05):
He he didn't see a drop, but we said, you know,
sorright at the base of the tree. Just smoked it.
I love the fact that you've got to navigate around
some of these trees. Not an easy it's not so
wide open like a lot of other courses. And I
know they tore it up because it's not super long,
but I love that the trees are there. I thought
they did a great job. They're my hero of the week.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
That's a great pick. Sheep, and my heels a bit longer,
so I'll keep my hero short. It's low hanging fruit,
but I'll take the bait. Greatness needs to be commended.
Tarrek Scooble. Mull's down thirteen guys, allows one hit one
Tiger's give him enough run support to get the win.
Hats off to Trek Scooble, an absolute masterpiece. To stay
on the inside track for another sim well done.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Ten ten straight decisions. Good for him. Here's my heel.
I'll make it quick. I'll stay with golf. Patrick Harrington
did you hear what happened?

Speaker 2 (03:55):
No?

Speaker 1 (03:55):
So, the Senior Open champion by a stroke over Stuart Sink,
got into a bit of a shouting match with NBC
on course reporter Roger Malty after round two. On the
par three to fifteenth hole, Harrington went wayward, couldn't find
his ball. Malty's there, reporting. Harrington wants him to help
him find the ball. Malty's like, my job is not

(04:18):
to help you find your golf ball. My job is
to report on what's happening. I'm not going to look
for the golf ball. I've got producers, I've got bosses.
They're telling me what to do. I can't stop. Yeah,
I'm working. Thank you a whole later, Malty's spotter, because
they walk around with a spotter. If you want to
call him a producer, that's fine. Tried to see which

(04:40):
club Harrington was going to use. He approaches the caddy
like oftentimes do remember you've seen it before. Dottie Pepper's
on the course and he's got a five iron here
because you're not seen in the graphic, he's got a
five iron here. Okay, So the spotter approaches the caddy
tells him to piss off because Malty wouldn't help him
locate the ball after the round. Harrington didn't like it.

(05:02):
Land Based, did Malty. Malty barked back and would admit
later all these years I've been getting checks from NBC,
Harrington's name isn't on one of them. He tried to
explain to Harrington. Harrington's complaint was, you were a golfer
because Malty played. I think he won five tournaments. He said,
you were a golfer. You should know what it's like.

(05:23):
You should understand that it's courtesy. Malpy's like, I have
a job to do. That's not my job. I can't
stop whatever I'm doing and start looking for your ball. Oh,
by the way, here's the number two srix On you
were playing. It's not the way it works. So Patty Harrington,
I stick.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
With the golf theme. Is my heel of the week.
You've got two golf picks. I've got two baseball picks.
The New York Mets are my heel from the weekend.
Did you see that final yesterday? Chep. There are eleven
games above five hundred. They're having a solid campaign this season.
Good team. They go out and lose twelve to one
to a Pittsburgh Pirates team that's fifteen hundred and twenty

(06:01):
seventh in the MLB and runs scored. So you're up
against a bottom four run producing team in MLB. They're
in the basement there in that department. You let them
score twelve in the game. Now, maybe I should shift
to Frankie Montes, who gave up six of those runs,
including five in the first inning as the starting pitcher.
But the big money Mets can't generate offense in a

(06:23):
game and allow a dozen runs. So again, the spirit
of this segment is just to focus on the weekend.
I'm not saying this is a big picture issue, but
you lose twelve to one to the Pittsburgh pirates not
known for their offense. You're my heel from the weekend.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
I get it. I think the big money thing is
something you bring up and that everybody thinks. Remember it
wasn't long ago that the Tigers lost to the Reds
eleven to one. Sure, and that was a team that
was playing five hundred ball, and that got them over
the five hundred mark. I think it's bound to happen
in baseball. Oh, of course, it's too long a season. Yeah,

(07:00):
I guess to your point, you're like, how do you
let it get up? How does it get that far
out of hand? How do you not have like you
can understand one guy, he doesn't have it, Jack Flaherty
doesn't have it tomorrow, Washington.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
So you give up five in the first inning, that's
one thing, but that's only score one run.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
Well not only that, how about shut in the flip
flip and door, you know, instead of instead of giving
up the five runs in an inning and then slamming
and say, Okay, the bullpen has done his job. What
are you doing? You're compounding the issue and making it
even worse. I get it. Good stuff with our hero
and heel, we have it for you every Monday eight
eighteen here on ex's embrose
