Speaker 1 (00:00):
Time at eight eighteen Every Monday, we do hero and heel,
Which is the best in the worst of the weekend.
Something you suggest is the best. It doesn't have to
be an athlete. It can be a commission, it could
be a league conference, It could be a coach, it
could be a player. Whatever you thought was the best
(00:22):
and or the worst of the weekend, we want to
hear it from you, hero and or heel. Here on
Mondays at A eighteen, here's my hero. It's Indiana football.
Not the Colts because they won again.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
But very nice though, very nice you Yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
The Hoosiers went to Audstin Stadium beat the number three
Oregon Ducks thirty to twenty for their first win against
an AP Top five team on the road in their history.
They were zero and forty six all time.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Talk about smashing a trend.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
They snapped the ducks eighteen game home winning streak. Kurt Signetti,
remember before the season began, everyone was bitching about this,
that they don't play anybody. He said, this is the
way it's going to be, all right. He knows his
team better than anybody. We'll see if it continues, but
the dude knows man. They've surprised college football last season
(01:16):
eleven to one record. That shouldn't be the case this year,
and I don't know why more people haven't bought in,
including yours truly. Fernando Mendoza through for two hundred and
fifteen yards in a touchdown. Linebacker Aiden Foster or Fisher
rather have you heard of him? Thirteen tackles one tackle
for loss was an All American a year ago. Dante
(01:38):
Moore had only been sacked once all season. That Indiana
defense got to him three times. Oregon's offensive line was
good all year long. But I you actually had six sacks,
I said, three six sacs in this game.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
Hoosiers a noow on the year. Now, I will say this.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
The other possible hero for me was Sidney Crosby because
he's thirty eight good ones, scored thirty three goals last season,
had a power play goal on opening night. He now
has the fifth his six hundred and twenty six career
goals with Pittsburgh. That is fifth most all time by
a player with one team. Mario Lemieux at six hundred
(02:24):
and ninety, Steve Eisaman six ninety two, Gordy Howe seven
eighty six, and Alexandrovechkin eight ninety seven. I don't know
if Crosby is going to catch any of those guys,
but he has been one of the greatest players on
Earth and one of the greatest players the league has
ever had.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
But I had to go with Indiana football. Who's your hero?
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Yeah, as always, lots of submissions, lots of candidates, should
we say, But my hero for the weekend is the
Carolina Panthers. They're back to five hundred, step three and three.
They got a thirty to twenty seven win over the Cowboys,
which you know I love to see, and all of
a sudden, they're putting a little bit of pressure on
the Buccaneers.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Not a whole lot, but a little bit.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
For a division that we thought the Buccaneers would just
run away with and a division that we all said
was the worst in football. They're at least five hundred
and Bryce Young threw three touchdowns and get this, sheep
Rico Dowdell, who Dowdell could be dotal?
Speaker 2 (03:19):
I hope we're counting that correct. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
He rushed for one hundred and eighty three yards one
eighty three So credit, where credits do the Carolina Panthers
are my hero.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
From the weekend. Yeah, that's a really good one. They're
minus fourteen in point differential. They're undefeated at home, which
is impressive. I don't know if i'd go so far
as to say they're putting pressure on Tampa. Tampa clearly
the class, but remember this, before the season began, people
Atlanta was kind of a popular pick. Yeah, not to
(03:53):
not to win the division, but to at least push
and perhaps make a bid for a wild card in
the NFC. How's that working out right now? Fret Lana
not going to play tonight?
Speaker 3 (04:06):
Right?
Speaker 1 (04:06):
They played tonight on the Monday Night stage. But they're
two and two and they're they're almost as bad as
Carolina and the point differential. But what Carolina has done
when a team could easily just splinter to your point splinter,
they've come together.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
Yeah, I just want to give them credit because we
all talked about them as being one.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
Of the worst teams.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
People gave up on Bryce young, people were bust and
all this other stuff. I don't know how good he.
I wouldn't necessarily want him as my quarterback. He's not
a top fifteen quarterback. But it takes time and he
was thrown into a really bad situation.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
Their stock is about as high as it could be
right now, and I just want to give them their due.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
That's all they deserve.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
It absolutely, let's get to our heel.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
My heel is the state of Michigan sports fans, and
really it really isn't. It really isn't them as much
as it is just the state that they're in today.
Michigan State was embarrassed at home on homecoming. Those are
the games. There are certain games that matter more than
others that wouldn't mattered a lot because you had a
lot of alumni coming back.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
It's always a blast when you're getting ready for a
football game at MSU. It is. It's awesome.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
I love going there and feeling the energy early in
the season, I mean later in the season, this time
of the year, after the struggles.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
I'm not sure how great it's going to be.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
I'm going to be up there in a few weeks,
but it's usually a very live atmosphere for MSU. And
knowing that you've got Indiana coming up that is legit.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
You've got your arch rival.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
You have three home games left, one is against Michigan.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
It's going to be tough.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
One against Penn State, which looks a little bit easier,
and the other game isn't even home it's at Ford Field.
You have two games left at Spartan Stadium. This game
against UCLA was really important. I thought homecoming, it's a
game team you should beat.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
Show some progress, Chef, there was nothing to cheer about.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
Nothing to cheer about. I know.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
When an opposing player says they didn't want to tackle anymore,
that's a serious problem.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Oh, that's awful. Michigan State's part of it.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
Michigan brags about being tough, yet they allowed two hundred
and twenty four yards, including one hundred and fifty eight
to a third string quarterback in King Though they allowed
two hundred and sixty five yards passing. If you allow
all that, you're not as tough as your opposition. So
that was bad. The Tigers not in sync. Trek Scoble
says after the game he felt good. Aj Hinch said
(06:45):
he emptied his tank, which is it? And then the
Lions losing to Kansas City that weekend couldn't be further
in our rear view mirror. As we hope for better
things next week. From three of the teams, because once
he is over, it was a rough weekend for Michigan,
the State of Michigan sports fans. That's why they're my heel. Unfortunately.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
Yeah, so Shep and I don't compare notes before we
do these types of segments. But my heel is the
entire weekend just brutal. I mean, I know my heel
submission usually takes us into break, so I don't have
to make it super long, but I might as well
just say see headlines that Shep gives at the top
of the hour, because the Tigers lost the marathon, the
Lions loss with some fishy officiating, and Michigan and Michigan
(07:32):
State both get blown out in games that we all
legitimately thought they could have won or should have won.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
In Michigan State's case, they.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
Got blown out, blown out Michigan too, you know, and
just a backbreaker of a weekend. Thank God for the
Red Wings. That's what I told Shep this morning when
we first logged on. But the entire weekend is my heel.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
Yeah, folks, here's the thing, the thing that many people
used to take great pride in if they're in Michigan
and or Michigan State and say what you want about
their records. Usually built tough, Lions are built tough, right,
rock Youssine got run over last night, But overall that's
(08:13):
going to happen in football. Michigan did not look as
tough as USC. UCLA was more physical than MSU, and
those are two areas that even if you lose the game,
you can hang your hat on. That was problematic. So
(08:35):
all that with the Tigers loss, and then of course,
as we mentioned, the Lions falling in Kansas City last
night a serious problem
