(00:43):
You're still in Alaska, huh.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Jeff, I'm still here. I'm on board this silver Moon
and we're having a great time.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
That's so awesome. Best part so far of the trip
has been what.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Oh man about eleven days in But I would say
the flight to didn Aali and an airplane with my
in laws was we came within a half mile of
the mountain. Flew over base camp for people that are
going up the mountain, and that was pretty surreal that
that was a mad but the whole trip's been unbelievable.
(01:19):
For those of you haven't been to a last I
highly recommend to spend incredible.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Yeah, well, we appreciate you getting getting up early.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
Man, after a beautiful viste.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Yeah, we appreciate you getting up early. That is so cool.
I'm glad you're enjoying it. You deserve it. And we'll
try to make this quick for you because you've got
sights to see Tommy Fleetwood. Yesterday I missed. Tommy Fleetwood
had a one shot lead going to eighteen at the
Travelers in Hartford. He switched clubs to hit his approach
shot came up way short. Then he three putted from
(01:51):
there while Keegan Bradley birdied. Bradley wins, Fleetwood remains winless
in his career on the PGA tour. Is it a
choke or is it Bradley taking advantage of a mishap
on Fleetwood's part? And how do you define choke as
a former professional athlete?
Speaker 2 (02:13):
I mean, if you're anybody, uh other than Tommy sleet
would probably you're you're saying that's a choke, but I mean, hey,
it was a decision that didn't pan out. If it
had been you know, a guy that already won four
times or five times in tour, if you know, it
was a bad break. But the bottom line is, you know,
he's been a guy that's finished top ten you know
(02:34):
a number of times and it didn't work out, and uh,
isn't one yet, So you know, unfortunately, it is what
it is. You're you're labeled and until you do it,
you're I guess, I guess you're on the on the
end of it as being a choke. But you know,
the reality of it is, he's a he's a you know,
top flight player that made the decision that didn't pan out,
(02:54):
and uh, you know, he has to live with it.
And obviously if you're keying Bradley, Bradley, you made the
the play that they needed to make, and you know,
and he's a guy that has a trophy now in
a bigger check. But it's unfortunate, but that's life, that's sports,
and unfortunately, Tommy Fleetwood, you have to live with it.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
Yeah, it's not that he's never won, He's won ten
tournaments in his career, just just not on the PGA tour,
so he knows what it's like to win. He finished
as a silver medallist in the Olympics to Scottie Scheffler,
so he's well aware of what it takes. It's just
an interesting word that we oftentimes associate with guys or
teams that can't get over the top. I don't know
(03:35):
if you viewed the Buffalo Bills going to four Super
Bowls and choking, or if you view it in a
positive light that they actually got there. How do athletes
look at teams or players who get to the pinnacle
but can't seem to climb over the hump while fans
constantly use the convenient word of choke.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Right, And that's a great analogy because I played with
the number of guys that were members of those Buffalo
Bills teams. Uh Cortilius Bennett was a teammate of mine
in Atlanta, Jim Richter was a long time alignment with
the Bills, and uh, yeah, that's what Will Wolford played
with me and Pittsburgh. He was a you know, one
of the tackles on the Bills teams. That's that's a
(04:18):
tough one. Uh, you know, the reality of it is,
it's it's very very difficult to get all the way
to the super Bowl. Obviously, to make it way through
you know, two or three playoff wins to get the
Super Bowl. Must let's do it four years in a row, right,
And you know, those guys were able to do it,
So you know, it's you know, it's great to you know,
use the vernacular of a choke and whatnot, but the
(04:41):
reality of it is, it's very very tough to get
that far year after year. And yet did did things
work out in the biggest game of them all? No,
they didn't. But it takes a lot of uh, you know,
fortitude and mental toughness to get to that point. But
you know, for whatever reason, they you know, one one
year after you know, the Giants beat them on a
(05:01):
field goal. The other three they frankly took it on
the chin pretty good because they're playing teams that are
better than them at that point. Play frankly, but it's, uh,
you know, it's easy to label somebody at choke, but
the reality of it is, making four straight Super Bowls
is pretty unbelievable. And yeah, they get it done in
the biggest time, the biggest you know, the biggest game.
(05:23):
But you know it's it's easy that they choke. Yeah,
it's harder to get there.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
Yeah. And in the in the world Tommy Fleetwood, people
need to remind themselves. In twenty eighteen, when you're a
big team USA in the Ryder Cup, Fleetwood and Francisco
Molinari won all four of their matches. They were the
first tandem to do that. Mitch Lion's joining us on
Mondays with Mitch mitche Lion's Wealth dot Com. Don't forget
the website Mitch lineswealth dot com and the number eight
(05:51):
six six eighty five Steel. I've always argued that depth
makes great teams besides the obvious, right, and that's helping
the Tigers events right now. How important do deep rosters
matter to championship teams?
Speaker 2 (06:05):
Do you think, Well, it's it's important, and especially when
it comes down to when you get somebody that goes
down with an injury or whatnot, and somebody's got to
step up, and you know you're seeing that a little
bit of the Tigers or you know somebody's out, you know,
I mean either at the beginning of the year or
you know, it goes down with it goes on the
d L or whatnot. Somebody steps up and makes the
(06:26):
keeps making plays. The confetence breeds confidence. And when guys
seeing other guys step up and then a stereo turned
and they are able to do the same thing, Uh,
you know, I just think it's it's culture. And you
kind of see that with a line and uh, you
know with the guys stepping up and when when when
(06:46):
everybody's being successful and the guys are are stepping up,
and you know, it's just it's like you believe in
yourself because you see other guys around you doing it.
And uh, you know, I think you see the tigers
for sure. I mean, and there everybody keeps stepping up
and making plays when it happens, whether you're Dylan Dingler
or you're you know, McKinstry or whoever. But you guys
(07:08):
are just they believing themselves because they see other guys
doing it. That's culture. It's it's it's belief in yourself.
It's believing the team and it's just that team mentality.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
Shadra Sanders twice over the last couple of weeks this month, specifically,
has been busted for speeding one hundred and one miles
an hour, ninety four miles an hour. How do you
encourage a young player to grow up?
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Man, that's that's that's a disappointing one, to be sure,
But you know it's happening for us. You're not the
first guy that's had a you know, some some poor
decisions and when it comes to cars, fast cars, you
money and driving too fast. But that's disappointing to see.
And I hope he gets it sooner than later, obviously.
You know, I'm glad it hasn't been a tragedy either
(07:59):
with him out for somebody else out on the road.
But you know, there's no reason to be going ninety
five hundred or one hundred miles an hour. And you know,
he laughed it off. I saw it as the most
recent charity softball game. But the reality of it is
is not funny. And believe me, the Cleveland Browns don't
want him make it headlines of this kind of stuff.
(08:20):
And it's just a distraction more than anything, right, And
as a as a young kid that's trying to vie
for a starting position in the NFL, and that's not
the kind of attention you need. And you know the
bottom line is it's not safe for anybody out there,
and hopefully he gets it sooner than later, because you know,
I'd hate for somebody graduate to happen and hopefully grows
(08:42):
up a lot sooner than than not.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
Yeah, I agree with you. Listen, appreciate the time very much.
Be safe out there, have some fun, keep taking those
pictures and we'll talk next week. Okay. All the best
to you and your family on that excursion. All right,
