Brought to you by Heineken zero zero. Get the facts,
be drink Aware, Visit Drinkaware dot i e. He claims
he brought the mullet back, his short shorts are a
bit too short, and he's nowhere to be found when
it's his round.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
There's one Heinigen zero zero.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
But he's our best mate, and even though he's always
banging on about dasts ninety percent past completion, there's no
one we'd rather watch the match with. To the sports
that bring us together. Heineken zero zero.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
I was only a little fellow when it started happening,
so I didn't really know what to do or who
to turn to. And then for years afterwards, for lots
of reasons, I didn't tell anyone until finally I found
someone who knew how to help, who I could start
opening up to. Only then was I able to say

(00:52):
this happened to me.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
You never have to deal with sexual violence alone. Support
is always here. Visit always here, contact and gorgo shihana
or call the National Helpline on one eight hundred and
seven seven eight eight eight eight. A message from Kohn,
a Government of Ireland.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Agency, thanks for your patients. On a football Friday, had
to get on the phones, had to get Pat Kerwin
on the line, moving the chains on NFL radio. Nobody
does a better show consistently, day in day out, talking
football than Pat Kerwin. And sometimes it's not what you know,
it's who you know. And I've been very proud to
call Pat a friend and a mentor over the years. Pat,

(01:31):
how are you.

Speaker 5 (01:33):
Heat? My friend? And we missed you in Florida and
I missed you going to hockey games with me. So
let's go on take a visit back, will you please?

Speaker 2 (01:40):
Yeah? I would love to come sit with Brad Childress
and discuss the mid two thousands NFC NORD. Those are
some fun stories and some really fun reminiscing. Although my
team wasn't very good back then.

Speaker 5 (01:52):
Well they're good now, my friend, and they're they're really hard,
he contend with. They got a challenge this week, though,
as much as you score points, I think Kansas City
off a loss is a tough team to deal with.
Myman Mahomes is fourteen and three off a loss on
the last seventeen times he's been in that situation. So

(02:13):
that part of it, and your secondary, which I know
you probably discussed all week. You don't want to see
mahomes when you're weak in the back end.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
No, you don't. And you know, the Lions have done
a couple of things to try to combat those injuries.
They picked up Trey Flowers, they you know, traded for
Vonte Maddox. None of those guys are going to be
able to be what Terry and Arnold and dj Reid
were even at their worst. So I'm with you, it's
a patchworks secondary. The good news for the Lions as
they have probably the best safety duo in the NFL.

Speaker 5 (02:40):
Would you agree, Yes, And they've got I think Ali
McNeil's well, I hope he makes it fact for this one,
but he is a factor inside. So they're starting to
get pretty good in there. And I also think Hutch
is finally one hundred percent. Early in the year, the
first two games, it was clear he was just knocking
Russ and really getting his feedback under him. But the

(03:03):
last two weeks, I think the guy has been on
fire again. So yeah, you're going to be great on
that side. Your quarterback is terrific, you got a running game,
you got a lot going on. You might be in
the outscore your business for a while, which is always
a dangerous place to be. Teams like Dallas are in
the outscore you because they can't stop you. We all
saw the Bengals last year try to outscore everybody, which

(03:26):
they couldn't do. But I think you're going to be
in that mode. You've got to have to drop that
thirty five on these people because that's what you're averaging.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Yeah, and the Lions fans are terrified to hear that
because that's kind of what happened last season at the end, Right,
you're so banged up on defense, you just had to
win shootouts, and they did more often than not, but
when it mattered most, they couldn't lean on anybody on
that defense. Pat, I know how much you respect Steve Spagnolo.
How does he slow down John Morton in this Lin's
offense because we know he can.

Speaker 5 (03:56):
Well, Spags. I think one of the over lining through
last weekend which is going to help him this week
is Chris Jones got exposed. He got caught dog in it,
and he admitted it. And he's got enough professional pride
and certainly still enough talent he might give you his
best game of the year because he knows and I

(04:18):
got Spags has told him they're going to have a
camera on you every play, just waiting for you to
shut it down before the ball's been stopped. And got
the criticism against so I think you'll get a big
game out of Chris and when he played hard. They're
hard to beat.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Yeah, certainly, and they still have the pedigree, they still
have the respect of everyone in the league despite being
two and three and trying to get back to the
Mendoza line. Sunday night against the Lions. When the Lions
played Baltimore, Pat, I mean at the time, that seemed
like a really good win. Now it looks like Baltimore
isn't nearly the team or the defense in particular that
it's been over the last few years. But the Lions

(04:57):
spied Lamar Jackson a little bit. That's something Aaron and
didn't love to do a ton in Detroit. Kelvin Shepherd
seems to like to do it. Can you spy Mahomesh?

Speaker 5 (05:07):
Yeah, Yeah, he's what is. Pat will run occasionally, He's
not that fast, but he is. He's kind of football fast.
He's really looking to throw the ball, So when he
breaks Containe outside the pocket, he's still looking at Chuck
him down the field, Lamar. When the Lamar says time
to go, you're dealing with a world class runner. So

(05:28):
that's not Pat Mahomes. You can spy Pat, and I
will say that the tackles are playing a little better
than I thought they'd be playing for Kansas City, so
I'd be more worried about him getting in a rhythm
throwing from the pocket and working those corners over away
from the safety.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Yeah. So another big storyline right now, especially after last night,
is who's the best team in the NFC Because it
doesn't look like it's Philly at least right now. And
I know we're only a quarter of the way through
the season, so it doesn't really even matter. But Pat,
could you are argue it's the Lions, and could you
argue it's the Buccaneers as well.

Speaker 5 (06:04):
I'll take the Lions, And I'm not on a radio
station with you to say that I am. If I
had to bet out, I like it. Look at look
at Tampa Bay. The quarterback has had four game winning
drives at the end. You're just you're playing Russian Roulette
the way he's doing it. And I like them, and
I really like their coach and he's a pressure coach.

(06:25):
I think it's you, guys, because I've seen you run
the ball the last time you played Kansas City. I
was I was with Dan Campbell about two weeks before
he could not wait to go there. And in that
game is thirty five runner and thirty four pass balance.
So you have a balanced offense. You're getting a lean
back Sooneral leadio get you lucked out. You're going to

(06:47):
get Arnold back sooner or later. So I think you're
the best team in the NFC.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
There you go, Pat Kerwin moving the chains in NFL Radio,
Pats joining us on the Lindsay Hunter Foundation guest line.
We appreciate Pat for his time. I want to whip
around the lead a little bit with you because there
are some other teams that people pay attention to over
here in this neck of the woods, one of them
being the Colts. Another four and one team a little
bit shocking to most people. Right, what's been the secret

(07:12):
sauce for Daniel Jones.

Speaker 5 (07:15):
Well, it starts with protection. Here's a guy that was
not protected as a giant line. Their head coach once
called their line the worst line in the NFL. That
kind of made the right statement he's his sat ratio
right now. This is a new world for Daniel Jones.
His sat ratio is one sack every thirty nine pass plays. Wow,

(07:37):
one of the best in the league. So if you
let Daniel Jones sit there and find receivers, he's going
to find them. And here's the proof of that. He
is connected with receptions to ten different receivers. You don't
find the third and fourth guy if there's no protection.
So that's step one. Step two is they have the
best running back of the league right now, at least statistically.

(07:59):
And step three is they got a young tight end
that's maybe the best tight end in the league with
Bowers down and out with injuries. So tight end, running
back detection, danger zone for everybody. And their defense, I'll
say this about him. They run to the ball. There's
a lot of speed on that defense and they're showing
up only giving up eighty nine points this year.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Another team in the Midwest, the Cleveland Browns, they've moved
on from flaccoh They seem to like Gabriel, at least
they think they like what they saw or flashes against Minnesota.
What did you see from Dylan Gabriel and what could
you possibly see from Shador Sanders if he gets a
crack at this.

Speaker 5 (08:37):
Well, let's start with Sanders because everyone in Cleveland thinks
he's the two. I don't even think he's going to
be the two this week.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
Yeah, I don't either.

Speaker 5 (08:44):
Think it'll be Zappy because you need a guy that's played,
because you got to go out in the field with
no reps that the kid goes down. So it'll be
that we're going to see that two young guys. By
the end of the year, we'll have some idea of
is anyone valuable enough to keep as the starter. I
like Dylan. We had Dylan at the Senior Bowl. He

(09:08):
overcomes his height. The have you seen a block pass yet?
Always small? He's small yet, Okay, show me the block passes.
He's been small his whole life. That's what Drew Brees
once said to me. I've been short my whole life.
I know how to play in this league. Dylan looks
to me like he's figured out how to play at
his size. But I mean I like Dudkins. Dudkins is first.

(09:32):
If they have not been anywhere near good since Chubb
got hurt, Chubb came back, he still wasn't the same guy.
This is the next Chubb with more speed.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
All Right, the Packers, we all know what happened. They
lost to those Browns, then they tie the Cowboys, and
then straight into a bye week. We asked former Alliance
tight end Rob Rubick about that. He thought that was
the worst possible time for a buye. You want to
get that taste out of your mouth right away and
as soon as possible. Can the Packers bounce back? Do
you think the team we saw the last couple of
weeks of the team we saw to start the season.

Speaker 5 (10:04):
Oh, I think the Bengals are what the doctor ordered
to them. Cincinnati still can't stop anybody on defense, giving
up thirty one points, and your team is angry. I
sit on the sideline when they beat Detroit. Your team.
Sorry about that one. But right after that game, I
was hanging around in Green Bay for a day and
guess what I kept hearing, Hey, where do you make

(10:26):
hotel reservations for the Super Bowl? And I kept saying,
slow your role, guys, A long way to go.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
Yeah, if anybody would know what's Pat Kirwin, go ahead, Pat, No.

Speaker 5 (10:37):
So I think your team will bounce back in about
two weeks. If I join you again, it'll be you
Saint Green Bay is the best team in the league,
because they'll get back into this race. I just don't
know if I trust Jordan Love to keep carrying the
weight of this football team on his shoulders.

Speaker 2 (10:57):
So Pat Kerwin still believes the Packers could make a
run at the division. He thinks they'll be just yeah, fine, Pat,
I do want to ask you, we know would be you,
my friend, They sure do. It was an ugly one too.
I do want to ask you about the Lions coordinators
from last year. They're both now had coaches, of course,
Aaron Glenn and the Jets. Is there anything anything that
you like out out of what you've seen out of

(11:18):
that team or are they just completely awful?

Speaker 5 (11:22):
I you know, I worked there for over a decade.
I'm chair for Aaron. I was there when we drafted him.
I was pretty good friends with him. I still talk
to him enough. I wish he didn't take the job.
I'll be blunt about it.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
Do you think there's a different job that he would
have been a better fit with or do you think
he should have waited the cycle.

Speaker 5 (11:41):
Out till a better job came along. And I've told guys,
don't rush in and don't feel because you've never been
ahead coach. You have to say yes when offered one,
be patient, and he wasn't. And now he's stuck in
this thing. And then he went out and got Justin
Thiele's and they paid him forty million. That's not good.

(12:01):
He's not going to be the quarterback next year. So
you took your honeymoon year, which is your rookie season
as a head coach, and you wasted it in his
city that can't wait to fire everyone they've ever met.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
Yeah, right, and someone who was not patient as well,
Ben Johnson and the Bears. Now, what's funny, Pat is
a lot of Lions fans and a lot of people
around here wish Aaron Glenn the best because he's in
the AFC and he's out of sight, out of mine.
These fans can't stand Ben Johnson. Now, some of the
comments that he made since leaving Detroit. What do you
see out of Ben Johnson's squad in Chicago.

Speaker 5 (12:39):
He's got a lot of work to do. But I
will say it is about two weeks ago he publicly
dismantled his team. First, he said they don't know how
to practice, which was a real insult. And then two
days later he said, we don't know how to compete
on Sundays. I said, this is a moment of truth.
They're either going to turn on him or they're going

(13:00):
to follow him, and they have followed them. So I
give him a lot of respect for the guts to
do what he did, because most coaches won't do that.
They keep placating everybody trying to make something positive happen.
He just called him out. And my radio partner, Jim
Millers does the pre and post for Chicago, He's around
there a lot. He apparently as hard as could be

(13:23):
on him in practice. He's just not accepting the culture
that's been there and he is trying to change it.
And he's trying to get the quarterback. Apparently he spends
a lot of extra time with the quarterback and he's
actually getting some dividends from his effort. So I have
great respect for whod ben is is a tough city.
It's a little bit like the Jets. They'll fire a

(13:45):
coach in a minute there.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
Yeah, absolutely they will. They'll run you right out of town.
Last thing for you, Pat, I'd be remiss if I
didn't at least touch on the last team in the
NFC North. We haven't talked about. The Vikings are three
and two, and it's a little reminiscent of last year
because you know, JJ McCarthy goes down early, they bring
in a veteran, Carson Wentz in this case, and they
just seem to be fine. I guess what do you

(14:07):
see out of Minnesota?

Speaker 5 (14:09):
Well, first off, I had to reach for my program
to figure out who these linemen are that we're playing
in the game. You know, pass work, and yeah, it
was I think at one point there were no starters
on the field, so that's part of it. I'll say this,
here's the challenge for the Vikings. Are you interested in
winning and getting to the playoffs or are you interested

(14:33):
in developing the quarterback? Because if you're interested in door
number one, then you keep Carson Wentz on the field.
If you're interested in door number two, go put McCarthy
on the field when he's healthy again.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
Yeah, it's an odd dilemma and it's one that they
kind of had to make in the offseason when they
had to decide if they want to build around McCarthy
or bring Donald back after fourteen win season. Unfortunately for Donald,
he left no doubt about that, you know with his
left The last two games of the year were his
worst two performances maybe of his career. He was awful. Pat,
one last thing for you to go ahead.

Speaker 5 (15:07):
Yep, No, it's just like to me, McCarthy is a
work in progress and you're gonna lose more games than
you should.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (15:15):
Carson Wentz is actually more relaxed than I've ever seen him.
And I've interviewed that guy face to face a lot
of times. I have never seen him this relax and
which he needs to do.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
Well as of right now. Pat Kerwin moving the chains
in NFL Radio still has the Lions as the best
team in the NFC as of right now, but they
might have to get in the outscore your business, says
Pat Kerwin. Pat, thank you so much for joining the show.
I can't thank you enough.

Speaker 5 (15:42):
My pleasure asking me again anytime. Let's talking to you.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
Brought to you by Honeyken zero zero Get the facts.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
Be drinkaware.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
I is it drinkaware? Dot a e he games Holly,
he brought the mulletbuck is short. Shorts are a bit
too short. And he's nowhere to be found when it's
his round.

Speaker 2 (15:57):
There's one Honigan zero zero.

Speaker 1 (16:00):
He's our best mate, and even though he's always banging
