Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're not worried about I'm not worried about that we
don't have pastor us. I'm not worried about that we
lost two coordinators. I'm not worried about the injuries. I'm
not worried about the Hall of Fame game. I'm not
worried about the schedule. I think it's perfect. I think
it lines up perfect. I think it's going to be
what's best for us with where we're at going into
twenty twenty five, my fifth year here at the core

(00:21):
of this team's fifth year, and I think it's I
really think it's exactly what we're going to need. You know,
the timing is perfect.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Love that from Dan Campbell. That's exactly what strength shows
and is indicative of. Right there, Okay, I mean he
why worry about something right now? Leave that to you
and me and everybody else. Okay, we're gonna we'll handle

(00:53):
that part of things.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
I do.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
They're not going to have fifteen wins. I think most
people would tell you that. I mean most people would
believe that we probably shouldn't be making these I shouldn't
be making these types of bold statements if we think
they're bold, because we've been proven wrong time and time again. Okay,
so just saying something like they're not going to win

(01:19):
fifteen games. I don't think people thought they'd win fifteen
games last year. I don't think the people thought Pistons
would win forty four games this year. I don't think
many people thought the Tigers would make the playoffs last
year after their start. So let's be careful on the
bold predictions. We like to do that in the media
and as fans because it generates a response. It's going

(01:41):
to be really hard, really hard to win fifteen games
with this schedule. Okay, it's going to be really hard.
Dare I say impossible to go undefeated on the road
like they did a year ago. I hope they've proved
I hope they proved me wrong. I really do the
whole coaching, the assistant coaches. I'm not taking anything away

(02:06):
from Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson. I wish them well
until they play Detroit. But I do think it's interesting
how much that is being stressed. That is one of
the consistent storylines for the Lions this year going into
the preseason. It's going to be a storyline going into

(02:30):
the regular season and throughout the season. It will be
a storyline. I saw a few things. First of all,
you know some bold predictions recently, like you know, SI
dot Com said the Bills are going to beat the
Eagles in the play and the super Bowl. That's that's
what they that's their bold prediction, one of one hundred,

(02:51):
one of the hundred predictions that they had. I read
every single one hundred of their predictions, and I was
looking to see what they were going to do about
if they were going to say anything about the Lions.
There were two mentions of the Lions in this one
hundred bold prediction list. One was Penny Seoul will win

(03:13):
the inaugural Protector of the Year award, and they write
with offensive lineman finally having an award to celebrate individual accomplishments.
The first big man to grace the stage of NFL
honors will be Lions tackle Penn Suol. One interesting wrinkle
will come from Jason Kelsey assisting the committee to elect
the Protector of the Year after his former teammate Lane

(03:36):
Johnson took issue with an over rating of the Lions
young star tackle. He didn't did he say that Penny
Suol was overrated or did he just put in his
locker some numbers associated with both. There's a stat comp

(03:58):
of Pennay Seool and a stat comp of Lane Johnson
right in his locker or just out on the post
of his locker. This was last year, and it's basically
saying I'm the best there is. Nick Sirianni said as
much too. But if you look at the comp it

(04:19):
says all pro comparison. It's got Lane Johnson here, sacks allowed,
Penna Sewel, and then it's got a number of different dividers.
I think there's ten different statistics. Sacks allowed, Lane Johnson, zero,
Penne Sewel one, quarterback hits allowed Lane Johnson, one, Penny
Sewell five, quarterback hurries allowed Lane Johnson nine, Penny Suwel

(04:41):
twenty two, penalties taken Lane Johnson ten, Penna Sewel twenty eight.
That kind of stuff. That's what he had on his locker,
all right. So perhaps Jason Kelsey in voting for the
Protector of the Year, maybe it will be slighted toward

(05:02):
or slanted I should say, toward the Eagles offensive tackle
and Lane Johnson in slighting Pennay Seoul a little bit.
But that's what Si dot Com at number seventy four.
That was one of their bold predictions. The other Lion
that was mentioned in this bold prediction was Jamior Gibbs

(05:23):
at seventy six, that he will win the Offensive Player
of the Year award, so high praise. Gibbs will end
up rushing for seventeen hundred yards, adding another eight hundred
yards receiving. He takes more of a complete role in
the line's dominant backfield. While David Montgomery is an integral
part of the two headed monster. The lines are more
versatile and threatening with Gibbs on the field. That will

(05:43):
become evident in the clutch this season. Those are the
two mentions. There was a part of me that says, good,
I'm glad that there's no mention of the offensive and
defensive coordinators and the fact that there are new ones there.
Here are the storylines that I constantly see and you

(06:07):
probably do too, the new coordinators. The belief is, can
you really go to a Super Bowl with two new coordinators? Yes,
you can, It was proven Philadelphia did it last year.
Aiden Hutchinson. Is he at one hundred percent? And what
have they done enough to compliment him? On the opposite side,

(06:29):
whatever side he's on, because by the way, chef quickly
stay on one side it's the left side or right side.
But have they done the enough on the opposite side
of Aiden Hutchinson to create the pass rush that was needed.

Speaker 4 (06:41):
Aiden Hutchinson is currently the Vegas favorite to win Defensive
Player of the Year.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
I just want to make that known.

Speaker 4 (06:47):
That's crazy to me, not in a bad way like
it's it's just it's kind of a pinch yourself Lions
fan type of moment.

Speaker 3 (06:54):
But Vegas certainly thinks that he was fine.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
Well because he was on pace to win Defense Player
of the Year last year, correct, with seven and a
half sex in his first five six games. So yeah,
I just wanted to point out what you're saying is
that it's a pinch me moment because he's come back
from a broken leg, right, and really the leg was
broken in two places.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
Correct, yep, and it was nasty, yeah, right.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
So that, in addition to the pinch me moment, I
think is if these predictions were to come through, you
have a legitimate candidate for Protector of the Year, no question, right,
whether he wins it or not. I'm talking about somebody
who is considered a legitimate candidate. You have a legitimate
candidate for offensive player of the year. You do, I

(07:42):
mean or Gibbs for his talents, for what he can do.
And you have a legitimate candidate for defensive player of
the year. When's the last time you had that in
a Detroit Lions football team? Never you had Barry Sanders

(08:04):
as an offensive player of the year, without a doubt.
Don't think you had an offensive lineman considered the best
at his position defensive player of the year. I mean,
look Bubba Baker in the past, but they're not on

(08:24):
the same team. Bubba Baker didn't play at the same
time as Barry Sanders did, so it's completely different. You've
had them individually, right Lambarney back in the day, we
were talking about Bubba Baker for sure. I mean, if
you went Barry Sanders, maybe Robert Porchet, maybe Chris Spielman
as possible defensive player of the year, You've never had

(08:48):
this collection of ability that is widely recognized.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
I'm not talking about just Detroit.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
It's easy for a writer to sit down and say, man,
I love this story about John Morton, and I love
this story about Jamison Williams, and this is going to
be a fantastic story about Jamier and Gibbson locally. Sure
you know why because as the build up continues, you're
pulling stories left and right. You're giving your listeners, readers,

(09:16):
viewers something to talk about. But I'm talking about nationally here.
Trent just mentions Vegas. I mention a national website. You've
got legitimate dudes here. But the storylines are the new
coordinators and Aiden Hutchinson. And I suppose every storyline involves

(09:41):
around a quarterback, right, find me a team right now
that one of the storylines isn't about their guy under center? Right,
a great right, even though great like Josh Allen Buffalo.
I mean that's a storyline there. Can he win it again?

(10:03):
In Baltimore? It's Lamar Jackson? It's not necessarily the MVP, Trent.
Can he win in the playoffs?

Speaker 3 (10:10):
Right?

Speaker 2 (10:11):
Even in Kansas City, Patrick Mahomes? Have they done enough
to get him enough weapons and protect him well enough?
More of the latter, protect him well enough so he
can showcase his MVP talent again? The story lines for
every football team in the NFL, everyone evolves around a quarterback.

(10:36):
So that's a given. The Jared goff. It's the coordinators
in Hutchinson. What about the draft picks. You're going to
see three draft picks play intricral part at least three
intrigral parts. Miles Fraser might be a fourth, okay, but
you're going to have three draft picks who are going

(10:56):
to be integral into the success of this team this year.
Ratlice on the offensive line, Williams on the defensive line.
Tesla's a wide receiver. It's gonna be really important, okay,
And like I said, maybe a Miles Frasier, but not
much as being mentioned to that locally, it will be
I'm talking about nationally. What about the bounce back year

(11:17):
from a guy like Sam Laporta, how about something like that?

Speaker 3 (11:24):
What about the.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
Progress made of Jack Campbell, how about something like that?
How about Terry on Arnold's development.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
That's a great one. And Annis Rakestraw for that matter,
those two kind of attached at the hip.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
Yeah, but Rakestraw really didn't play much. That's what I mean.

Speaker 4 (11:43):
It's different narratives between the two of them, but them
together and.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
He's probably and he's probably not gonna get it's gonna
be DJ Reid at one side and Arnold is the other.
Arnold is the guy right, not just because he's a
first round pick. Played just about every game last year.
I think he missed one game. But how has he
progressed in his rule? You're not worried about DJ Reid,
You're just not. I mean, it was like Carlton Davis

(12:09):
last year. You think that's a given. You want to
see that. I think that's a more interesting storyline than
any other one. I mean, maybe the Jamison Williams because
John Morton couls come out and said he's going to
have an incredible year. It's a breakout year. Look At
how he's gotten stronger. Look at how he hasn't lost
a step, look at how he's being more studious. Okay,

(12:29):
that's possible. I think Terry on Arnold's progress his development
is perhaps the biggest story for the Lions this season.
