Your holl for the most commercial freeclassic rocketing Boston seven show X. This
is Boston's only classic rock morning show, one hundred point seven w ZLX.
Good morning. It is five pointthirty on the nose this Monday, November
thirteenth. My name is Kenny Young. Hey, DJ twice about the pop
(00:23):
what don't you call it? FromCharlie Daniels? Nobody tells DJ request,
what's to play? That's right? And DJ request, we say welcome back
on this Monday morning to two soulsthat have been sorely missed these last two
weeks. I give you one,Pete McKenzie. I've had to learn a
few lessons. I had to boneup on some of the emojis and some
(00:45):
of the more trendy words that areused right now. Uh huh, the
trendy man, Kenny, I thinkit preferred Jack Daniels over Charlie Daniels right
now? Correct? Maybe a singlebarrel select it would be very nice.
Yeah, thanks to the welcome back, Kenny, appreciate that. Heather Young,
Heather, Heather Young, Heather Young, can you imagine did we get
(01:07):
married? It's yeah, it's oneof those it's gonna be. It's gonna
be one of those warnings. ButI know, right, yeah, we
did before the show. As amatter of fact, Heather Forward is here.
Hey guys, I don't know goodFriday, Well, good quit me
(01:30):
in these ain't nobody got time?Nobody? Nobody? Yes, Well,
all I can say is I somuch appreciate the listener's patience. Right,
(01:51):
No, for sure. I meanit's two weeks. So how are your
last three weekends? That's what comesto mind. That's how long we've been
going three weekends? Yeah, andit seems like one hundred weekends and it
seems like no weekends. I didn'tpost one thing on social media. I
just I couldn't bring myself to doit. But I saw it all I
(02:14):
did. I mean, the outreachfrom the listeners was overwhelming. The support
was tremendous. Yeah, we're goingto come across a couple a holes here
and there through social media, butfor the most part, your love for
this show is unbound, and welove you five thirty club members. We
(02:38):
do so. Yeah, it's it'sa wall for us. This is a
wall that we have to break throughmove forward. I'm not I have not
come to accept it. Nope, the thought of Kevin me never seeing Kevin
again. I cannot grasp I cannotwrap my head around not seeing that incredibly
(03:02):
talented, just master of his craft, funny bastard, that I'm not going
to see him again, and thathurts deep after sitting across from him for
almost forty years putting each and everyshow together. Yeah, except when he
was on vacation or I was onvacation. Those pauses aren't there anymore.
(03:25):
This is forever and God, Kenny, thank you so much for stepping in.
We needed you so badly, andyou and Chris, the entire z
LX staff, the iHeartMedia family, just thank you. Of course, just
unbelievable. You know, it's asdifficult as as it has been the last
(03:46):
two weeks. You just summed itup best, really, Pete saying that
you know that the listeners from fromday one, from the ground zero of
this through now are just I reallyfelt like they held just get through that,
not only that first day because Iwas on till almost two o'clock that
day, and then the following weekjust to have all those messages and all
(04:09):
those talkbacks and all that support andeveryone was just felt like everyone's in your
corner. Yeah, you know itin some way, Yeah, made us
feel better and made us kind ofget back to doing radio, because trust
me when I say nobody felt likeDOINGO radio here, right right. Yeah.
So so there's there's one thing thatHeather and I agreed that we want
(04:30):
to do and we're only going todo it once, and that's going to
be at seven forty because we feellike that Friday morning, October twenty seventh
was a complete mystery to you andI just we can only if we can
even get through it at seven forty, get through this, I know,
(04:50):
if we because I think that thatwould be something to help us along too,
because I haven't talked to anybody aboutit, right, I mean except
family. So we'll do that atseven point forty on you know what transpired
on the morning of the twenty seventh, because we we left Kenny in the
(05:12):
studio by himself and it was amystery. So yeah, we'll go from
there. Kenny, I like it, No, I like it. Yeah,
So again, feel free to usethat talkback feature. You text the
show WZX and your message to sevenoh four to seven O phone lines are
open. I am your operator standingby, so be kind be patient with
us as we're wading through the watershere at five thirty five waters, the
(05:35):
ones coming out of my eyeballs.Yeah, I was gonna I was going
to ask you what's the big story, But I think we'll be getting into
that later. We'll get into thatlater. Of course, not only did
he leave us either, he leftus undermanned, which is typical Kevin.
I left us undermanned. He didtwenty nine degrees in Boston. It's Kenny,
Pete, Heather, one hundred pointSteve WZLX, just easing and to
(06:00):
a Monday morning show, Boston's onlyclassic rock morning show, one hundred point
seven w z l X. Sothe texts are coming in. We appreciate
that text to show anytime you'd likew z LEX and your message to seven
oh four to seven oh Pete McKenziealong with Heather Ford, Kenny Young here.
One thing I do want to sayin return is that as hard as
(06:23):
it is on Heather and I,I just every time I think about Kevin's
absence, my mind goes directly tohis wife and his two kids, Katie
and Christopher, and his wife Barbara, and of course Kevin's extremely extremely small
(06:43):
but loving family. I've never knownKevin's uncles. I barely got to know
his dad and knew his mom.I know uncles and aunts, but I
didn't know any of them. Andso his family consisted of his brother Jimmy,
and his sister Rohnda, and Jimmy'sfamily of course, family of five.
(07:06):
So that's where my heart always goesto when I'm thinking about what we're
going through, is to that coreof people. So Jimmy Carlson, by
the way, Jimmy is slightly olderthan Kevin, and in talking to him
a couple of times, Heather,I don't know if you notice, but
(07:28):
he's one of those guys that whenhe cries, it sounds like he's laughing.
Do you know what I mean? No, I mean there have you
heard that from people? Have youheard that, you know, know about
anybody? He starts crying and theysound like they're laughing that you do I
laugh cry? Okay, but Iknow when you're crying because I've seen it
for the last two weeks, heardit. So Jimmy text me, knowing
(07:54):
that we're coming back on the air, he texts me, I know tomorrow
morning's going to be difficult. Thatbeing said, we will be thinking of
you. Give us a ring whenyou're in town. So I'm going to
Ohio for Thanksgiving and you know wherewe stay. Jimmy is five miles away.
He's gonna be like, he's gonnabe Kevin's replacement in my mind.
(08:15):
A note though, if you can't, please tell your listeners that we were
so touched by all their thoughts andmemories and we want to thank them all.
Thank you. That's from Kevin's brother, Jimmy. Do you ever wonder
if people think I don't even knowif I can get through it. I
don't know if I can. It'sall right, Hey, it's this is
uncharted waters it is. It's brandnew. It's brand new. It's brand
(08:41):
new for all of us, youknow. Yeah, Pete, on that
note, I mean, we heardfrom listeners we haven't heard from many years.
We were getting messages from former coworkers, yeah, text messages,
social media messages. Yeah. Andit was as if you know you lost
(09:01):
somebody's next your next door neighbor, you're you know what I mean. The
way people uh related to his stories, the way he could engage with people
just really touched them. It waspart of their everyday routine. I can't
tell you how many listeners that thatactually have my number texted me they feel
(09:22):
like they lost a family member, even though maybe they never met Kevin or
met him once or twice. That'she shared so much on the air.
How they get your number? Acouple of them do, like Mel from
the Grid met Yeah, people I'vemet, Yeah, I was just before
I and again it'll be all morning. But do you ever wonder if people
think you and I are weaker thaneveryone else? Because people that are supposed
(09:46):
to the people that love Kevin andhave him, you know, like a
dad. They're texting me to tellme I'll be okay today. Yeah right,
Katie right, texted Barber texted us, both texted us to say it'll
be okay. How strong are they? How strong are they'll look at I
(10:07):
don't think it's weakness, it's humanHeather, Well, here's the thing,
just so awkward. Here's somebody mentionedthis to me and they really captured it.
Because Kevin was not only a professionalpartner of ours, he was a
friend. That's such a double loss. You know, you go to work
and you you know, you don'tsocialize with people you work with people,
(10:31):
but not. I mean, Kevinwas a friend, a brother to me,
a best friend. Yeah, youguys, chriss crossed the country.
So that that's that's why it's sohard for us. No, I know,
I just it's so it was touching, and yet I looked at my
husband last night and I said,Barbs texted me, Katie's texted me,
(10:52):
talked to Chris. I've talked toall sorts of people, and everybody's saying,
you'll be okay, right, AndI'm like, these are people that
I I'm also telling you'll be okayright, And I just it's it's hard.
It is. And I realized Itexted you the other day, this
is all very hard, but it'swalls that we have to break through,
just nausea. Well, I alsothink to myself, and everybody keeps telling
(11:15):
us, remember the listeners have beenthrough this for two weeks already. You
guys, you know they're past it. Yeah, I'm not. No,
No, we won't be for awhile. No, but we thank you
for your patience once again, ifyou have it, if you have it,
continue to have it. We loveyou. We feel your love,
oh for sure. So you're justgonna feel my tears. You're going to
(11:37):
come right through radio. They we'rehuman, We're human. Five forty five.
I don't even know what the temperatureis, Kenny cold, Well,
is it forty I'll tell you what. I could barely see out of one
little circle on the windshield this morningwhen I left the driveway. It was
twenty two degrees. Wow, itgot warmers we approached the city. Jesus.
But like the signs, I'm ninetyfive coaching the ninety three, I'm
(12:01):
the north by Canton, we're frozen. And I was like, I thought
my contact no, no, no, no, I thought my contacts were
messing up. I'm like, whyare all the signs dirty? And then
the minute the temperature picked up,the signs were clear, and I think
there was a frost, a littlefrost. Yeah. Yeah, this so
I don't mean like frozen like icicles, just frost. There was a frost.
(12:22):
Yeah. If you're just waking up, give yourself a little extra time
to scrape, unless you got oneof those fancy remote starters. Yeah,
I thought I just saw twenty ninea moment ago. Outside of all,
let's just say cold today. We'rejust gonna say it's and when it gets
warmer, we'll say it's it's gonnafeel like November. Yeah, for at
least the next couple of days. Here Boston's Classic Rock one hundred point seven
WZL Boston's Classic Rock six o'clock thismorning and this Monday, the thirteenth of
(12:46):
November. It's Keeddy Young, PeteMcKenzie, Heather Ford Man. The love
is still flowing out there on thetalkbacks on hold, waiting for you guys
to return month. Virtual Hugsaten,Heather, Oh, it is so wonderful
to hear your voice. I speakfor all listeners. We love you.
(13:07):
We've missed you. I'm welling upover here myself just listening to you guys.
I hope you have a wonderful showon a Kevin So glad to have
you back. Guys, Yes,were glad to have you back. Yeah,
text coming into so. We appreciateall the feedback. Welcome back,
Pete and Heather Kenny so strong. You guys have been missed so badly.
(13:31):
Massive hugs on your old and fragilebodies. We love you, Thank you,
Joe. That's awesome. No,we do appreciate the feedback. Heather
and I needed that time, probablystill due. Oh my god, listen
to us. Of course we do. But I mean I think that's anybody.
(13:52):
Yeah yeah, anybody in our positionwould be uh, would be the
same. I do want to mentionover the weekend, the marine celebrating their
two hundred and forty eighth birthday andthe Veterans Day stuff. I mean,
here's where my mind was on Saturdayand Sunday, anticipating coming in here on
Monday. I just drowned myself infootball. Oh that's what I did.
(14:16):
Well, my mom did text me, she said, turn on missoo because
we're all Zoo fans. Now,after some you know, she was hospitalized
in the Miszoo hospital with COVID whenI had to go pick her up from
Missouri. Yeah, she goes, there's a great game going on. I'm
like, I don't have time forthis craplender, right, I said it
like this ooh missooh just a shot. And my dad did not serve,
(14:39):
but I had uncles that were, you know, marines and veterans. And
to all those veterans who served andare serving men and women around the world,
thank you. Oh for sure.Did you see what happened to what
they had a Gillette. Yeah,I mean some of the stuff they did
at these games, Well, thiswasn't even This was you could go in
(15:00):
and walk around the field and thefield was covered with over seven thousand boots
with the names of the soldiers thatown those boots and died. Oh wow
during Iraq, Afghanistan, the Waron Terror in general. Wow, Pat
Tillman's boots were there. Yeah.So you flagged next to each of them
and you could walk, yeah, like in the boots, right, and
you could walk around the field.I couldn't handle that. Although I wanted
(15:22):
to take the boys to it,I just it would have looked weird because
I would have been crying for allsorts of reasons. And yeah, you
know, but it hadn't left RhodeIsland or something like that. Display.
Yeah, now it's going to travelexactly. It's great. That's good.
And it was free boots on theground. Yeah, that was good.
Yeah, I know the h Ithink it was Fox or maybe it was
(15:43):
CBS. I think the CBS NFLcrew was at the Air Force Academy.
They did some great breaks from there. And I don't watch that too much,
those pregames. Yeah, I justwatched football but like I said,
I was just zoned watching football thisweekend and there was a lot of great
stuff done by the networks honoring veteranstead. Yeah, that's good stuff. Well,
my husband, that's funny because everytime we're somewhere in it's Veterans Day
(16:04):
or like church, and they said, you know, please stand, he
always kind of slowly gets up becauseI think for a lot of them,
it's some some veterans immediately stand youyeah, but there's something and some of
them are just kind of and youjust gotta gotta wait. Yeah, gotta
give them their time. That's right. And I and I mean, I've
got a kid who's seventeen who isplanning on enlisting right out of high school,
(16:26):
which those conversations now come up quitea bit now because everybody's like,
have you thought about your essays you'regoing to write? You thought about the
colleges you're going to apply to?And he politely nods and he says things,
and he goes, when do Itell them? Because some people react
like why and some people have apositive reaction. But so I mean,
hey, he knows what he wantsto do. I think that, yes,
yeah, so you know, yeah, yesterday was or the whole weekend
(16:51):
was touching, no doubt, nodoubt, all the things. So dare
I ask what's coming up? Heather? Oh god? Okay, then hey
cry this break. Yes, that'smaking Headlinesay it's twenty nine degrees from the
Planet Fitness w CLX Studios. Now, thanks for making us part of your
(17:15):
morning headlines with Heather Idiot. Greatstory one seven w LX boss it.
Anybody wake up early yesterday just toget really sad for the rest of the
day's under that game air? Likewhat time do? Wow? And that's
supposed to be like a joy becausemost of you guys, when you watch
(17:36):
lots of football, you like wakingup early and watching pre shows and getting
hyped and thinking about it. It'skind of in the background. Or get
your first wager of the day andyeah, you know, and you start
to get, you know, excitedabout what the rest of the day will
bring. And then they like they'relike, well, you know what,
we'll do some games in Europe,so not only will you get some free
game, but sometimes you'll get realgame and then you lose. Yeah,
(18:00):
right, Yes, that was likea depressing score. I saw it after
right, and I was like, well, that must have been the saddest
game on the planet. And itwas because Kenny, you were like giving
up. I mean, we wereso excited going into yesterday. We had
literally we did coffee in bed forthe pregame, and then when the game
started, I went downstairs and madeus Bloody Mary's, so the wife and
(18:23):
I did Bloody Mary's in bed towatch the game, and we were so
hyped about it. And then quicklyinto the first quarter, I think maybe
after Max third sack, yeah, five in the first half alone, I
was like, you know, maybewe don't have to, you know,
watch the rest of this game.Does this offensive line just stand up and
walk to the side. It's justa bad football team out of the way,
(18:47):
talent wise, they just they don'thave it. I'm sorry they don't.
They they stink and it's hard forPatriots Nation to accept that because of
the last twenty years. Yeah,I mean, I got friends lifelong Patriot
fans who went through all that crapin the sixties and seventies, when they
sucked in the eighties and by theway, but they're like getting rid of
(19:08):
their Patriots. I think they're puttingit away. They can't even look at
I'm like, dude, you gottasuffer. You've had no ups and downs
for twenty years. Yeah, likeevery other NFL team. Hey, there's
still my team. They'll always bemy team. They're hard to watch.
It is hard to watch, justhard to watch. Was that stat true
yesterday on social media that Mac haslost as many games at home as Tom
(19:32):
did his entire career? Yes?Is that real or fake? Was that
some sort of an exaggeration? Imissed that? What is that? What
is that number? Thirteen home games? But Tom did it over the course
of his entire career there eighty nine. It's impossible that he only lost thirteen
games at home in twenty years.Yeah, it's like less than one to
see. That's pretty sick while hewas playing. Yeah, I mean,
(19:56):
poor Mac Jones. I mean,I know people are all over he's he
probably is not the guy, butman, he's actually bad luck. I
don't know if this one's the guy. You know, he led them to
a fourth quarter comeback a few weeksago because he broke his cherry there and
then he you know, last weekhe threw the interception that was a good
pass deflected and then yesterday, hethrows this. Where was he throwing this?
(20:19):
Fourth quarter underthrown pass one? It'sa goal line, right, they
keep playing. He was expecting aski to stop. What did it slip
out of his Maybe it slipped offhis fingers. I think very well thrown
to the wrong person. He washurried almost you know, the majority of
the game. Like I said,I think he had five sacks in the
(20:42):
first half alone. And then hegoes I got some audio mac Jone's just
sounds like he's about to cry.I always sound like that he does.
He does. Yeah, he wasasked first question about the getting benched there
and late in the fourth quarter.Yeah, they just told me I was
out of the game. So Iwasn't playing very good, so I got
taking out of the game at theend of the game. So yeah,
(21:03):
that's that's kind of what it was. Let me take the jersey home though,
he said, right, it's it'sit's a difficult situation, but the
end of the day, I reallydid want the team to win. Always
be that person. I know that. You know we didn't win, so
it's it's hard for everybody. ButI have to play better to not even
be in that situation. You know, it's it's not ideal for anybody.
Right. If I'm the person sittingon the bench, I head down,
(21:26):
I'm still we still need to win. Getting yelled at question, Is anybody
of that talent in the NFL orany professional sport? Not all of them,
but a lot of them have probablya parent that's really tough on them,
right, like a mom or adad, Probably mostly a dad if
it's football, who were just likein their faces their whole life and the
motivator. You're great, but youknow this is what you need to do.
(21:48):
You wonder if his dad just sittingtheir head in hand, what what
just happens? Like, I don'tknow, it's a good season. Well,
the sad part is the leader ofthe division is six and three.
Okay, we expected Miami to belike, you know, I don't know,
(22:11):
seven and two at this point. They look so good out of the
gate. The division is tightened up. Look Buffalo Place tonight trying to stay
barely above the five hundred mark.We thought they were going to be.
What happened to them? They couldhave been in the division race, is
my point. You know, I'mnot at the time last week, had
the Patriots beaten Washington. Let's goback two weeks. Had they beaten Washington
(22:34):
that week, they only would havebeen one game behind the Jets in the
division. Are you kidding? No? So if they had won the games,
yeah, it would have been alot of How we're trying to make
something out of two and eight? This is beautiful. It's like making that.
I asked the wife yesterday afternoon, after the bloody drunk on body,
I go, can you name thetwo teams that the Patriots have beaten the
(22:56):
season? Just remember, I said, jenns In Buffalo z Lex weather,
sun and clouds, highs in theforties, sun, clouds tomorrow, showers,
possible highs again in the forties, twenty nine degrees. In Boston.
I'm heather Ford on one hundred pointseven w ZLX. It's Boston's only classic
rock morning show. One hundred pointsof w ZLEX. Kiddy, Young,
(23:17):
Pete, Mackenzie, heather Ford backin studio. So nice to have your
shining faces back in the studio.By the way, can I just say,
I can't tell you how much weappreciate you enough. I can't.
It's just that I got no wordsfor it. Overwhelming shining? Is that?
Why was years? Yeah? Isthat where that sheen was coming from?
(23:38):
What? Right? Drip drip here? Drip trip there? I just
thought you were staying very well hydrated. Yeah, hey, listen, like
we've been saying these talkbacks, youknow, ninety nine point nine percent of
them just showing so much love andsupport. Just continue to pour in here,
so you know, just just momentsago, good morning, Pete,
(23:59):
Heather and Kenny. Kenny, throughoutthe past two weeks, you've been unbelievably
professional. Know how you did it? Pete and Heather, Welcome back,
Heather, Let the tears flow. You're gonna be okay. You're going to
handle yourself like the true professionals thatyou are. God speed today, and
I send my hugs in love, god speed, god speed. Why is
(24:19):
he always in a hurry? Igot a lot of people to take care
of it. It's got to befast. They got to be fast.
The text are coming into as well, Kenny, WZLX and your message send
it to seven oh four to sevenoh from the five o eight. Been
listening to you guys for twenty yearssince day one, and yeah, it
hurts the heart. I can't saythat it does it? Does Heather and
(24:40):
I broken mending. Yeah, it'sgonna take some time. I don't think
I'm at that point yet. Mendinghas not begun. I mean I haven't
even accepted it. Nope. Imean, you know, that's thirty eight
years sitting across from the guy puttinga show together every day otherwise when more
on vacation. It's just I haven'taccepted the absence, and from the five
(25:02):
o eight, we're not over it, regarding you know, us questioning whether
the listeners are over it after twoweeks, and we appreciate that. We
appreciate all the listener feedback social media. Thank you so much. I haven't
been able to post on there.I'm sorry. We'll get back to that,
of course, but not only yourstories, but your humor in such
(25:27):
a gentle way, the kind andwarm words that we've received. I just
I can't thank you enough. Somany Abba requests. Yes, yes,
it's funny because I don't even knowif he necessarily really likes but that was
just like for me to them, and I only mention this once behind the
(25:47):
curtain. I'm not a fan ofChampagne, but everyone just assumes of that
one break that happened at Braden's wedding. I'm a lover of Champagne and I'll
i'll side of this very thirty secondsright now. I will not mention it
again. But I don't like it. I think Kevin got kind of trapped.
Once he danced to an Abba songand everybody circled around him. Everybody
(26:11):
circled and he did that dance hedoes that looks even more awkward than mine,
and it stuck the white man's overbite. It was like he did this
thing where he would put his legbehind his other leg. Yeah he would
do yeah, all right and notfall over amazing all over and swing his
arms so well since we're sharing,uh once a one time share it for
(26:33):
me would be not really a fanof bon Jovi, which is the best
part, yeah, which I gotlabeled with. You don't have anyone to
argue with that about I don't.No one's going to claim that you're a
Bonjobe lover. Anon m a garageband, Kevin. They'd sold over a
hundred million albums worldwide. How canyou call them a garage band? That's
(26:56):
right. Meanwhile, He's just like, yeah, they're okay, yeah,
all right, there all right,I have this real, real quick.
This little issue with the dog latelyhad their Winston, and last night was
a clear indication he was pestering usto go outside like he would he would.
He's in our living room and he'sgot a kitchen and a porch to
(27:19):
go through, and he's staring allthe way through that part of the house.
Let me out, like, andthen you know, he starts talking
to me. He's getting you somelimp. So i'd let him in right
(27:45):
after being outside for fifteen minutes,I guess. So ten minutes later he's
doing the same thing to me likethis happened over and finally I said,
okay, Winston, I just Isaid no, I said, lay down,
pointing to the ground. I'm makinghim getting it down, sad,
And and then I let him sitthere for a good twenty minutes or half
(28:07):
hour before I let him out again. Is it something spooky out the yard?
Is he smelling something? Or isthere something he's like obsessing about him?
Every night? Yeah? Exactly ishe obsessing? Is he eating poop?
Oh, he doesn't eat poopy,he's not eating. Is he eating
something dead out there? He?Is there something dying out there that he's
kind of keeping an eye on arabbit, a squirrel. You know,
(28:30):
it's a fenced, thin yard. No, it's not that outside of the
fence. Maybe maybe maybe on theend. I mean, I have three
dogs. Obviously I'm crazy. I'ma crazy dog lady. But the little
one is fourteen weeks and almost fiftypounds at this point, right, and
yesterday was the same thing. Hewould ring that bell constantly to go out
to God. I'm like, whateveryou're finding out there, God speed.
(28:56):
Sorry about your obsession, but you'renot going out. No, No,
your dog talked to him. Idog, the little one does the same
thing. I'm not angry, he'slike happy, don't you can have a
whole conversation. I bet about butHeather, I found an interesting story on
(29:18):
the subject of dogs. And sureenough, third one down on the list
and the new, according to canineexperts, the new top five laziest dog.
You got two of the laziest ones. You got the Great Dane coming
in. You got Marmaduke at numberfour. Yeah, both of miners.
Yeah, very lazy. But Ihave a pug too, and he is
wicked lazy. Gotta be a hounddog in there. Well, funny you
(29:41):
should say that the basset hound likeFlash on the Dude's friends have two of
those number three. But I'll tellyou what. They sill get excited by
other things. But they do.They do a great deal of sleeping.
They do saliva. Fans will behappy to know. The English bulldog made
number two on the list, andthe number one one laziest dog according to
experts, is the Pickanese, theancient lap dog, which is just a
(30:06):
long haired pug. You know that, right, Yeah, it's just so
if you're into a dog that's notactive. There's your there's your breaths.
Everybody's always like, why did youget a great Dane. I'm always like,
why not? The thing sleeps allthe time and all he wants to
do is snuggle like they're like giantlap dogs. Yeah, I know,
great people that have had French bulldogs. They're at number five on the list.
(30:26):
French bulldogs ten thousand dollars are lazy, lazy, defensive. Earn your
cape right. Six thirty four,it's said what twenty eight degrees at Boston's
Classic Growing the Wrong Way. Thisis Boston's only classic rock morning show.
Six forty four. It's Kitty Young, Heather Ford, Pete McKenzie trying to
(30:48):
get the batting order in line.Yeah, it's new to me too,
it is, it is. Ithink you're doing a great job. Yeah
for two weeks in a day sofar you've been doing it now for the
last two ways, doing a greatjob. Guy, Did I say it
right? You're doing a great doinga great job. Do we throw anything
out for Tyler? Like, uh, you're doing a great job. Great
(31:10):
job. I was so thankful tohave him in here these last sitting there
and your jam. He's in yourcondo right now. Listen to the show
and he's like, when are youcoming bashlock in the morning? Sucks pretty
much, not like that along thoselines like yeah tough. I got to
see grumpy boss because there was onenight he just did not sleep and he
(31:33):
got like I do think he gottwo hours or two and a half hours
and he just doesn't sleep. It'snot fun. We all tossed and turned
last night, but he legit onlygot a couple hours sleep actually sleeping.
I was surprised. And then thedog wanted to go out again at like
twelve forty five, so he wasLast year, somebody texted that he wanted
to go out and smoke a cigarwith Kevin. I didn't sleep last night.
(31:56):
Yeah, it was tough. Ijust couldn't. I couldn'ttually fall asleep,
and I kept thinking, I haven'thad any caffeine. I ate dinner
early. I get your phone away. Yeah, I put the phone away,
and I just couldn't turn off myfreaking brain. Right. Well,
you know that that first week wasso incredibly hard, and Heather and I
(32:19):
both said already we still haven't acceptedthe fact that our beloved brother is gone.
We haven't accepted that, but Ican't fathom it. Last week was
easier, was yeah, but therewere like that's all I'm saying. It
was easier than the week before.Yeah, because there were days that were
(32:39):
that were okay, but then likerandomly Thursday, I was I couldn't hold
a conversation without crying. I know, I can't even figure this out.
How did I try to get myhair cut? And I was just in
tears the entire time? Right,But the day before that I was okay,
and the day after that I wassort of okay. But like random
(33:02):
days last week were like the firstweek. Yeah, I can't and figure
it out. We've we've decided, with Kenny's blessing that at seven point forty
this morning, we will kind ofgo over October twenty seventh with you,
because you know, Heather wasn't onthe show, Kevin wasn't here obviously,
(33:24):
and then I left the show, and then Kenny was dangling on the air
not knowing what was going on.So you know, for your benefit as
the listener, we'll let you knowhow that morning unfolded on October twenty seventh.
We're only doing it once, mostlybecause I probably will not get through
(33:44):
the first ten seconds of it.I know it, I know it understandably.
I do want to say that thefirst thing, and I think Heather
and Kenny are the same way. When we think about Kevin being gone,
our thoughts immediately go to the thefamily. Kevin's family, his wife,
his two kids. They're just they'reso strong, you know, they're so
(34:06):
supportive, and not to mention Idon't want to forget mentioning Kevin's brother Jimmy
and his sister Ronda, which ispretty much the extent of Kevin's family that
I've ever known in forty years.Yeah, I spent the entire week with
Ronda. Yeah, Moronda how justwas having a hard time introducing. No
one knew who she was. She'skind of there on her own. So
every time someone came up, Iwas like, this is Ronda, Kevin's
(34:29):
sister. She wouldn't you know, she would introduce herself and maybe like who
are you. I'm like, no, one, Yeah, you introduced her
to me because I had never mether, and I'd never met Jimmy either,
you know, right right, itwas yeah, and even his brother
in law Joe and Eric was there, Barber's side of the family. Just
yeah. I took some time tospeak to them as well, and it
(34:52):
was like, I said, Ifeel like I know you guys. I've
been listening to your voices, youknow, so intimately for the last of
us four years now, you know. The real the other real reason I
was sitting next to Rondo is becauseshe looks she kind of from you know,
they look alike, she and Kevin. So it's kind of like staring
at Kevin. Yeah, a littlebit for the entire a week, right,
(35:12):
besides the fact that those giant freakingpictures were staring at us the whole
time. Oh I know, oh, my god, they had life sized
pictures of Kevin, and every timeI looked up at the line from where
I was sitting, yeah, therehe was smiling, and I'm like,
right with our backs? Well yeah, I mean his daughter. Kevin's daughter,
(35:35):
Katie, texted both of us yesterdayshowing her support for us going back
out on the air. Jimmy sentme a text at Kevin's brother, his
wife sent us text telling us we'dbe okay, Like, I feel,
there's so there's so much tougher thanusband last night, and I go,
how weak am I as a personthat everybody's sending me the you'll be okay
text? Is it because we haveto speak about it out loud? Is
(35:59):
it because it's different? No?I think in my here's how it is
in my mind, is that Kevinwas a family member to me. I
mean we yeah, I mean fromnineteen eighty five on, he's my best
friend. Yeah, he's but henot only is he a friend, but
he's a professional partner too. Soit's life and work. Oh, I
(36:21):
know, we're like the only twopeople I know that have gone through that
something. It just seemed that's tough. Yeah, like coming at you from
all angles. I said to myI kept saying to everybody. I was
like, there's one thing to losesomeone that's really close to you, like
a best friend, and there's anotherthing where it could completely affect your profession.
Yeah, it's such a weird. It's such a weird, tough combination
(36:45):
of two things. Yeah, becauseI mean contemplating all parts of your life
at once, not just one exactly. That's what it's all to, all
encompassing loss, so heavy. Sothanks for the support of via the text
line easy ilex and your message toseven oh four to seven oh, and
of course the talk back feature onthe iHeartRadio app that little red microphone.
(37:06):
You can chip in there if youknow they're still coming in. Pete,
Heather Kenny, I just want tosay, Pete Heather, welcome back.
I can't imagine what it was likewalking into that studio. Kevin will be
proud of you too, Pete. You know we love you to the moon.
Heather. You guys are friends, whether people believe it or not.
I know you guys loved each other. I'm so happy to have you back.
(37:28):
Thank you guys for being you.Love you guys. Have a great
day. It'll get better love you. Okay, we're waiting for that better
part though, Yeah, the betterwe do appreciate it. We skip and
get to the better part. Right, we're breaking through walls along with you,
guys. Six fifty one twenty eightdegrees at Boston's Classic Rock I'm going
to do it. Guys, youdon't mind if I do it? Do
(37:51):
you do it? For five?Did you watch? I tried so hard
to repeat that and he got close. I know it's like somebody doing an
impression of them. Yeah, himself, right, but he's elderly. Boston's
only classic rock morning show one underpoints of w z X, Kadie Young,
Mackenzie heather Ford. Yeah, Ifinally got around last week. I
(38:14):
think it was to watching that recordedSNL with who Fight Us? And yeah,
it was a great cameo and thenChristopher walking to introduce the band again.
It was such a nice throwback callbackrather to what we've been talking about
here for years. So you thinkhe rehearsed it or he just tried cold,
and he tried cold. He didn'tcome out in the cold open.
It did a little did a littlesomething too, I did. Yeah,
(38:35):
it was awesome trick a treat.I'm telling you that's two Saturday Night Lives
ago, and I know we're goingto talk about other stuff, but that
break. The whole skit where what'shis name the comedian was George Washington might
have been one of my favorite skitson SNL of all time. Really,
it's worth watching. Want to bean independent nation? We're going to have
our own units of measure. Yeah, it was great, It was It
(38:57):
was beautiful. Revolutionary war guys sittingon the campfire with General George Washington just
watched it. I know, everybody, I'm a little behind, but it's
definitely worth it. Yeah, becausethe Saturday Night Live hasn't stuck with me
lately, so it's good to hearyou would like that whole episode. Yeah,
you would enjoy every every Yeah.Well, speaking of was that Napergatzi
(39:20):
hosted? Yeah, yeah, yeah, who I wasn't too familiar with.
Oh I am His open was superfunny. Yeah. Not to derail this,
Kenny, but I know we're goingto get to your backyard. But
Napergatzi is performing at the Garden ontwenty twenty four. I think it's in
February. I went online to gettickets Jesus, like the cheapest tickets eighty
five bucks. After he's blown up. I saw him in a comedy club
(39:44):
in Ohio the first time, likefive years ago. He was hilarious.
So he has just completely taken off. Yeah, if that's your deal,
it doesn't have to be. Butno, right, very clean. Yeah,
I was saying I was impressed withthat guy. I want to go
watch his Netflix specials now Oh yeahright, Yeah. Didn't have time to
watch much TV Saturday, I was. I was in it. Yeah,
(40:05):
this was me all day Saturday, blowing leaves. Baby, listen to that
week blower. It is when Itell you I have the weakest electric blower.
God. We've been at our housealmost nineteen years. All right,
So I do my own spring cleanups. I do my own fall cleanups.
But this year certain circumstances. Ihadn't got it out back in like almost
(40:30):
three weeks, so there wasn't astitch of green grass to be seen anywhere.
I'm sure. I'll break it downby the numbers, and I got
a small box on the back ofmy numbers. What are you breaking down?
Oh, I'm breaking it down.So what I do? That's the
number coming? Yeah, I'm atarper because I got the pickup truck.
(40:51):
I like blowing the leaves onto thetarp, bundling it up, throwing the
tarps in the back of the truck. That way there I don't have to
bag because to me, bagging isjust the tedious things bury the body and
the leaves. I've been doing thisfor almost two decades at my own house,
so I get it. I getit. So I had two giant
tarps and that was just one quadrant. And I don't have a huge backyard.
I sit on maybe quarter of anacre. But I got two huge
(41:14):
tarps that whatever I could fit inthe back of the truck that was in
there. Like I had to securemy load. Yes, yes, he
said winkingly. So aside from that, I'll break down the numbers. I
had ten bags full packed and Ismash them down I get in there.
Yeah, oh yeah. And thenI had five more full sized yard barrels
(41:36):
that I used too for various brushand yard works. So and then I
had all the half eaten pumpkins thatthe squirrels have been munching on, so
those were all sitting up on thepatio wall. So it was a big
clean up. It was a bigday on Saturday, but I was not
able to go to the leaf dumpand haul all that stuff. It was
veterans ow my next door neighbor,My buddy Steve that was next door.
(42:01):
He was nice enough to tell mebecause he came back with a foul look
on his face and he goes, don't go to the dump today, they're
closed. He goes, I justhauled everything up there. Right, Just
open up the back of your truckas you drive away from the dump and
just let all the leaves fly.Well, you know there are people that
did that out of angle. Ohsure, did you see that new thing?
It was? I don't know,I don't know where they're doing this,
(42:22):
but everybody puts their leaves in abarrel and then they take their weed
whacker and they stick it in therelike an immersion blender, and they huh,
and they grind their leaves from agiant barrel all the way down to
like four inches worth of leaves. That works, I know. Well,
I mean I think you have tohave a gas powered you something little power
to it. But you're using yourweed whacker like an immersion blender. Okay,
(42:45):
Or if you have an electric blower. Sometimes they run in reverse and
you can bag it, so vacuumsup the leaves, winds them up and
puts them in a bag. Butif you if you've got a pile that's
like four foot by ten foot, like I was a multiple part forever take
to do that and get her ifyou got a dog, yeah, yeah,
what all is jump? They wantto jump in the lead canny.
(43:06):
Back to the pumpkins you picked up, you should throw those along the wall,
maybe on the other side of thewall, and you get yourself a
pumpkin patch. That's what I did. Oh, it has a pumpkin patch.
Now they're the dump way on thenose. So I had wanted to
I go to the dump on Saturday, right obviously. So then because I
(43:27):
knew the Pat's game was nine thirtySunday, you said, I'm going to
be locked in. The dump doesn'topen till eleven on Sundays. You guys
have an ear open on Sundays.Oh yeah, shorter hours, yeah,
is it eleven to three? Yeah, eleven three on Sundays, you guys
on Sunday. Yeah, So Ithink it was about the time. In
fact, I know exactly when thetime was. It was in the fourth
quarter when Mac Jones had led theteam downfield, and here they are,
(43:49):
We're going to get a touchdown,We're going to take the lead, and
he throws a pick at the goalline. So immediately I shut the TV
off. I got up fro BloodyMary's. It was such a good yesterday.
It was so good. I said, well, we better go now
so we can come back and makeanother Bloody Mary because we were only one
deep by that time. So wehauled up there and wife came with me
(44:12):
for the ride. But I sawsome things I'd never seen at the leaf
Dump before. First of all,I was like, I went during a
Patriots game, which I've never donebecause I'm always watching the game, and
I figure, great, i'm gonnabeat the rush, I'm gonna beat the
line, right, I'm gonna getrid of Oh No, every I think
every car and truck in there hadthe same idea. I'm not watching this
damn game anymore. I'm going tothe leaf Dump. So everyone kind of
(44:34):
has that like bitterness, that somberness, that like punching the god. After
watching that, I got something else. I've got to do something else.
So we're all commiserating and we're alldoing this. But what I saw yesterday
at the dump was the biggest amateurhour backup I've ever seen. Have you
ever seen approximately a one hundred pointturn what this car had their leaf bags?
(44:55):
They were a middle aged man, middle aged man, I would say,
like late forties, early fifties, could not back his little car up
because you have to back up toyou know, drop your bags and dump
your putting leaves in the little car. And so he's proceeding to hold up
everybody else that's trying to get outto make room for the line of people
coming in and this guy and everyone'snow it's getting heated and like this like
(45:21):
there was a guy that they allwant to get back and watch the Morans
do that in the movie. Itwas like Austin Powers in that hallway with
a little car. It was like, man, have you never backed up
before? I mean it's also doeshe not have a camera? Now?
I feel like all cars have cameras. Yeah, Like that makes backing up
very sure. It got to apoint where like one of the guys next
(45:44):
to me goes, I'm gonna goI'm gonna go over there and just comming
deer, the vehicles talking to eachother. He grabbed a guy by his
collar. Get yours together, manwatching you we all have you to blame
New England patriots from the planet Fitnessw se Lex Studios. Now, thanks
(46:05):
for making that part of your morning. Great story one w LEX bosson.
So then shall we, I mean, I time that we go back to
it the morning we talked about thislast hour that you know, for a
lot of guys and some women, you wake up on a Sunday, you're
(46:27):
fresh faced and happy to be awake, and you start your day by maybe
watching some pregame stuff you want.I mean that starts early, right,
How do you think Craft started hisday with a helga? Maybe a little
frauleine action over there. I didn'tsee his I didn't see a significant other
with him. Oh I don't know. I bet he did. I don't
know how he starts his day.Helga's tiny. So with those games,
(46:49):
those pregame stuff that starts at likewhat nine? I think, yeah,
network starts an hour before. Buthow about that stadium too? How about
that? Do you see the roofright now? The roofs They got a
roof on the statement it's like abig tarp and it's connected the wires,
right, and it folds up eitherfolds up into a square, and then
the scoreboard rises into the scoreboard, and then and then it's in the scoreboards.
(47:13):
When you thought people in this countrytook their football seriously, you found
out they take their football very seriously. There, Yeah, the Frankfurters.
Yeah, so you woke up earlyand you're excited, and what do you
get? You get crap. Isaw that score and I thought that is
a depressing score because I saw itafter the facts, and then I saw
all the interceptions and all the andthen then like, Bob Craft's a meme.
Now with his coat that's the sizeof a tent. Maybe that's where
(47:35):
he was keeping the women because itlooked like inside the coat exactly. That
was the biggest coat I've met.Why was he wearing that? Isn't that
cold? There? He instantly becamea meme, and they instantly added the
curb your enthusiasm music. When RobertKraft famously dropped his head down after the
interception, Oh yeah, that wasCraft and he bowed his head down.
(47:55):
It's just so fitting, not likea floating head in that jacket. Well,
I mean remember when we were inwas it Houston before that the big
super Bowl there. We didn't stayfor the game, but we were there
that whole week. He and hisson walked past us, and I remember
running up and thinking, I wantto go get a job with the ReBs.
This is my chance, and westarted talking to them. I'm five
(48:16):
six, I'm not a short woman, but I'm not a tall person.
And I was taller than that, right, I mean I was taller.
So that jacket, I mean dwarfing. He just needs to get a normal
sized jacket for his body. Maybeit was so it was like Willy Wonka.
It was so crazy looking and thetemperature was only forty six there.
(48:36):
I looked it up because why dothey have winter coats on? But what's
his age? Is he? Youknow the older people are always cold,
are they? Oh? God?Yeah, he could get a heat.
I am My aunt's eighty six andshe wears sweaters and layers in summer.
Right, but you've seen the heatedcoats now and the real thin ones with
the built in heating apparatus inside.Yeah, he's rich enough for that.
(48:57):
He is. Just get one ofthose. Put a little better you get
it, keep yourself for sure.My wife got one of those as a
gift. Oh does she wear it? She does, It's awesome. Well,
there you go. So Mac Joneslooked like he was about to cry
Bill Belichick whatever. And wasn't Macgetting yelled at on the sidelines like a
dad yells at a kid when tryingto walk into traffic. I mean,
(49:21):
there was a lot going one. You're gonna get yelled at, you know.
I always told me I was outof the game, so I wasn't
playing very good, so I gottaken out of the game. It was
like the game. So yeah, that's that's kind of what it was.
(49:42):
It's hard, right, It's it'sit's a difficult situation. But the end
of the day, I really didwant the team to win. Always be
that person. I know that. You know, we didn't win. So
it's it's hard for everybody. ButI have to play better to not even
be in that situation. You know, It's it's not ideal for anybody,
right, no one is going todo good in that situation. It's just
just keep talking until something makes sense. Right. Oh god, I think
(50:02):
we have two bad quarterbacks right now. Yeh, poor Bailey Zappy are coming
in Appy Yeah, And I likethe thought of the play at the end
where they faked the spike and threwit down the middle. But it didn't
work out for Bailey, it workedout for the Colts z Lex Weather.
Sun and clouds, highs in theforties, sun and clouds tomorrow, showers,
possible highs again in the forties.Twenty nine degrees in Boston. I'm
(50:25):
Heather Ford on one hundred point sevenw ZLX.
