(08:26):

with them, but worked with themfor thirty years. And then after that

(09:33):
I started driving limousines now look out. Then from there I drove for Hearst

ten years and retired at sixty two. Wow. And from there I went
to UPS and retired from there. And so the this goes on and on.

(10:01):
So I said that after the pandemic, I started driving for a rare
cruise before it depends in, Istarted driving for a rare crew Espress Transporting.
They are conductor from you know,a different stations in city, Okay,
like Missouri, Barberham in Alabama,a little rock. So that was

(10:24):
my run. Now you've been allover the place, boots Hee. I
appreciate you hitting me up and holleringat me today. You know, I'm
looking at the news and I'm lookingat members of the city Council. They're
sharing their opinions about the mayor's proposedbudget and you know how they feel about
that. And JB. Smiling said, slow down, slow down. So

(10:46):
I don't you know, we it'sproposed. We don't know if the tax
increase will actually happen. And letme see, Smiley said, it's not
our goal although the mayor proposed seventyfive cents. Uh, the council is
doing everything that we can to slowdown, slow down, slow down.
Let's figure out if there's another wayto generate revenue in the city. Okay,

(11:09):
I like that. W D IA Hello, Hashtarman, Hey Queen,
how you doing. I'm good,I'm good. Hay Friday to you,
Happy Friday, Thank you, thankyou. I'm going to say this
about Bobby. I loved it Bobby, and it was just she was just

(11:31):
a good guy. You know. When he started years ago, he was
doing some things with my auntie andI didn't know him then, but she
did. But anyway, she knewbed also. But anyway, I love
what the way Bobby did his showand I love love the way Sand does

(11:52):
is and I love love the wayyou're doing yours the way I don't have
No Frank loved would come on thereand read a verse. You don't read
a verse on the Bible, huh. She she would do that all until
she would come in and read averse. You know. I think it
was after we were calling in,you know, and do our birth days.

(12:13):
I believe it was. I'm notreal sure now, but she would
read a verse on the Bible, and I love that. She would do
it every day. And I'm justwondering. I want to say hello to
her too. I'm just wondering abouther. I hope she's doing, you
know good. Kim. Kim wassuch a Kim was such a sweet person.
Yes, ma'am. I ran intoKim not long ago at Whole Foods

(12:35):
of all places. Oh Lord havemercy. If you ever run into her
again, tell a queen say hello. I will do it. I certainly
will. You have a wonderful weekend. Okay, let me tell you about
the first job that I remember thatI had. The first job I had
was at the chaff department in KansasCity when I was eighteen years old.

(12:56):
I was their secretary. Wow,back then, okay, you know time
we've been using different little things.Yet we had to punch things then.
Back then, you know, theydidn't have nothing like what they got now.
And I loved my job, youknow, so I stayed there a
few years for him in the characterpartmy okay, sweetheart, you have a
womanful weekend. Love you and youtake care of Love you too, queen.

(13:16):
Thank you all right now bye bye, w d I A hello,
you know, Hey, I'm good, Freddie. How you doing. I'm
doing all right. I guess Idon't even know if I could talk about
my first job, but I meanI'm still on it. Well, what
is your first job? Twenty years? Good? Yeah, working for the

(13:39):
city. I just had, likeI just had to lit, you know,
let a lot of stuff go,you know, I headed you know,
streets me. You know, ifyou can let it go, you
can. You you're a strong person. But like Bobbie used to mentor me
on it as far as this, you know, keep on being positive.
And you know, hey, myHAPs you know what I'm saying. He

(14:01):
didn't have to worry about me nomore. You know, like my boy
out there in the streets and youknow what I'm saying, anything could happen
to him. You know, myaunts and stuff like that. They were
proud of me. And so thisis why I just keep on going.
So you know, I'm just on. I'm on my first job, still
on it. I ain't left meyet. Wow. That's how he alone
and now yeah, looking down herealone and now so so let me let

(14:24):
me ask you this, because yousaid that you used to call and you
would talk to Bobby back and youknow when he was on the radio,
so you got some of that bobbyology. Did it help you stay out of
trouble? Oh yeah, ma'am,old man. I had been in trouble
in twenty five thirty years anyway. But you know, just his inspiration,
you know, just him telling mestuff and you know, keep on going

(14:46):
and keep on pushing. And youknow, yeah, he did tell me
stay out of trouble and stuff likethis. You know, he was he
was. He was a real mentorto me. You know, you know,
when I needed to ask a questionof something, he would never like
you know, you will never ignoreme, like just like you remind me
so much of her, and likeI heard conversation, like like I told

(15:07):
you like when your brother passed orsomething like that. He was just like,
take your time, you'll be back. That's what he said. Whenever
she gets ready to come back, that's when she'll come back, you know.
So you know, you know,I just remember a lot of conversations
and stuff like this. So I'mgonna tell you one funny thing about it.
So we were talking about females, right and uh, and I told

(15:28):
him, my auntie said, takethis male off female, and what do
you have? Male? Take themale off female? What do you have?
That's why that's why a females.You said, you gotta pay a
feet. You gotta that's why y'allare female. Me, you gotta pay

(15:50):
a feet. You know what I'msaying now, you Yeah, I had
to catch it eye, I'm now, I'm thinking about it. I'm slow.
I'm slow. That's some of theold school. This old school.
I ain't. The other told methey don't said, you know this is
why they female Elizabeth pe So meand Bobby's always laugh about being one of

(16:11):
my fun memories of them. Soyou know it's gonna be all right.
You know, we got them,we got you, we got you.
You know it reminds us, don'tshow. It reminds them so much to
him. So you know, weall right, we're gonna be all We're
gonna be all right. Yeah,we're gonna be all right. We're gonna
make it through. We're gonna makeit through it. Thank you, Freddie.
I appreciate you. Yes, ma'amall right? W d I a

(16:33):
hello? I ain't so so?How are you? Hey? I'm good,
brother Norman? How you doing?I'm black tastic, sister, wonderful
matter as black tastic as I couldbe. You know, my first job
I can remember. I was abouteleven to twelve years old. You won't
believe us, but I was ashoe signed boy. What I used to

(16:53):
sign shoes downtown. I used tosneak into the pea Boy, the old
Peabody they had a old guy usedto sign. She was down in the
basement and we were not allowed togo in there, but I would go
in there trying to catch some ofthose sailors and others and give them a
s fish answer. What Yes,ma'am our a suit time boy for a
long time. You know what youthink about? What's that? Are you?

(17:18):
You know what I'm thinking about? You don't know what I'm thinking about
the song, su Yes, that'syou right. That walk dude don't work
so well. I'll do it away. I did it, I did it.

(17:41):
You know that song he was talkingabout you talking about me? Okay,
I don't know that song you cameout. I was a suit time
boy. I used to sign usedthe wife's here on Madison Monroe in Madison,
down on Monroe, well right acrossthe seat from there. Then you
say, well called a bus line, and all the all the Armed Service

(18:03):
needs to come in on those buses. Nothing but armed service, uh,
the Navy, the Army, andbaby, you had some shoe shine boys
down that we wait on. Y'allhad a whole bunch of shoes to shine
down there when they came into town. Sounds like and some of us who
didn't have a shoe shine box,we always use our knees. I don't
put their sew up on our knee. We suit down, put them on,

(18:26):
put their feet on our knee, and we shined those shoes until we
made our own shoe sine box.And trust me, we had a lot
of boys gotta puts home. Ilive. What a fair explored me is
now that's where I live. IfI was a BILLSTI kid. So I
shigned suits, man, I madea lot of money, shined shoes,
shoe shine boy, and then Istarted throwing papers for Tar State Thunder.

(18:47):
So you pretty much it was kindof a jack of all trades. You
sound like you did it all,but that's not what you're doing now right.
Oh no, no, no.My greatest job I've ever had was
with the Herban Youth Initiative. Istart YEA working with Wolf's Term at risk
or high rich children and youth inthe community. And that job ended in
twenty fourteen. Okay, so Istayed there all that time, and it's

(19:11):
one of the greatest jobs I've neverhad. You know, whatever time I
hear this song, I'm gonna thinkof you, Well, you're going to
be from now. That's you,Norman, that's me. I'm the black
Ta Shoe time boy. Thank you, Norman, Thank you. Yeah,
every time I hear it from nowon, hey, come on getting you.

(19:36):
That's what he was doing, workinghard. Damen w D. Hello,
Hello, hello, hello, ohfirst time caller. Oh who is
this? Am I on the WhiteShow? Yes, you're on the radio
on w D. I A ohmy god, first time. Okay,

(19:57):
hey, we're talking about jobs rightfirst well, first job or you know,
maybe a job that you had yearsago. Like I worked at a
boot store. I forgot about that, but let me tell you something.
I was selling some boots. Youhear me. I was the number one
salesman weeks and weeks in a row. Yeah, it'saw me some boots.

(20:18):
So what was yours? Okay?Okay? I worked a summer job.
It was two of us and mena friend, uh he lived right across
the street from me, and wehad to clean a school down in Boxtown.
It was a summer job over thesummer. So he and I we

(20:40):
went to the school. We metthe h the maintenance guy that was over
the school, the supervisor, andit was just he and I and we
were sitting in his office. We'rewaiting. We was waiting, you know,
maybe for maybe about ten more peopleto show up, you know,

(21:00):
and no one else showed up.So and we're going Like he took us
on a tour of the school andI got with the guy. His name
was Eric, and I said, hey, man, how are we going
to clean the school up? Andthat's too much suff in here, you
know, and shoot, man, that guy he taught us how to buff

(21:21):
a floor, how to clean upthe school when we left. That school
was White Chapel School down in Boxtown. When that school, that school was
clean as a tick. Wow,I'm talking it was super clean. Yeah,
and that was you know, thatwas that was a memory. I
guess that was about fifteen. Wewere fifteen years old, my first dog,

(21:44):
and that check started to rolling areatwo weeks. If you liked it,
didn't you. Yeah, that checkbought me some nice clothes because you
know, we were kind of wewere poor, you know, but we
were making it, you know,my family, we were making it.
But hey, I was. Iwas enjoying those those checks every two weeks.

(22:06):
But that summer, Wow, that'show it was. Yeah, you
know, and though you know, thinking about what you did at that school,
those are skills that you could takewith you for a lifetime and you
could start a business or something ofyour own. I mean it's almost like,
you know, you hear people saying, instead of giving a man a
fish, teach him how to fish. Yeah, so that could have been

(22:29):
that could have been actually a careerfor you that pays well. Don't y'all
be talking down to people that cleanbuildings and stuff like that, then tell
you something. Hey, hey, those are some I think some honorable folks
if you ask me, Yeah itis. And you know I had that
at already, you know, becausemy parents told us how to wash walls

(22:53):
and things like that growing up.Oh wow, but yeah we got that
summer job. That kind of puttingthat check on it made a difference,
you know. Yeah, So thatthat was one of the many, one
of many, one of minute.Okay, well, I appreciate you calling
in first time calling. You nevertold me who you were though, you're

(23:15):

Let's go back to these phone lines, find out what you're all talking about.
W D I A Hello, Hey, Stormy, Hey, Kosha,
how you doing good? You soundgood? And I still and I still
love Bobby up Jake, I knowyou do. I missed him so much.

(25:59):
Yeah. Yeah, You're not theonly one. Nothing. Yeah.
So we're going to continue to playfor his family as well. Absolutely sending
our love out to Kim too.Yeah today because I know this today may
be pretty hard for her as well, and his children and his siblings today

(26:22):
maybe a rough day for them aswell. True true, true, Yeah,
all right, baby, you havea did one. Okay, Okay,
thank you you too, you too. W D I A Hello,
Hello, Hello, How are you? I'm good? How are you?
I am good? I'm the Stormy. Look. I was college to share

(26:45):
the remembrance of my first job.It was the Noel Barbecue nine nine chapter
third Street of the Chicago Style HotLink. Oh yeah, this was my
first job. But I also wantedto share say about Bobby and the day
that it happened, because I waslistening to Bobby that morning when I went

(27:10):
to work, and so it wasa ritual, you know. And as
I went into work, I turnedmy radio off and went into work,
and next thing I know, peoplewere coming inside the place and it was
everybody was just it was like apanic. People were like, did you
hear what happened to you here? And you know, Bobby had passed.
But Bobby and I we were Welived in the same neighborhood as did rich

(27:33):
Wood, so I got to knowhim and sharing and they were so beautiful
for beautiful people. But what Ireally I started listening to Bobby years ago
with my mother, who in theevening time Bobby and Jennie's Bullop they were
on together. It was an interestingshow. But what I really liked is

(27:55):
how Bobby used his platform to drawso many people in his Bobby Ology that
he shared. He had a uniqueway of looking at things and breaking it
up where you can understand it.But also I look at it now,
Bobby's gone, you know, Butyou got Lady Team, Lady d you
got all these other people. Jackson, Steve Sidney, all these other people

(28:18):
that because of Bobby oj sharing hisheart and his platform, you got all
this notoriety. Now, he wasnot a selfish man. He loved what
he was doing. He is missed. And I also remember when he was
sharing, you know, and he'sgoing through the details about him and sharing
when sharing's going through her illness, and it's just he had an open book.

(28:41):
And yeah, yeah, but nowwe got you, we got stand
I mean stan Bill, so Imean to show what's going on. Everybody
got their own unique way. ButI'm really blessed to have known him.
Yeah, we are too. Keepup there working. I'm lifting his family
up, his chiding and everything, the little Johge family so shifting every one

(29:06):
of us. But thank you,Okay, okay, thank you, thank
you so much. Okay, wd I A hello, Hey, I'm
good. How are you fine?I got an I heard the flash he
called mentioned bobbing. We do nobusiness. That's an anniversary of his going

(29:29):
on to glory and what a stockand what a wonderful thing it was for
us. And you know what's amazing, Uh, you can always remember where
you were and what you were doingwhen you heard the means that someone of
not rives had passed you absolutely.I mean I can remember where I watched

(29:52):
and I heard news Elvins and doctorKing's, uh, what's is named Johnny
cop Right? Bobby? Oh kay? I mean, just remember where you
were and what you were doing. Those moments stay in your heart, in
your mind because it was such animpact. It was such an impact.
And I will always trashy Bobby becausehe's the one who gave him call started

(30:17):
calling me nurse Bevery. Oh,he gave me that name, and that
is the most pruscious thing, youknow, I just trashing him, you
know, calling me that. Duringthe time Sharon was ill, you know
I was. I used to sendon inspirational messaging and give him advice that

(30:37):
I knew, you know, forbeing a nurse. And you know,
I just tried to be supported andlet him know that, you know,
we cared about what he and Sharonwas going through. And so after that,
that's when he started calling me NurseBeverly. But our hearts ahead of
today, but we know he's restedin the arm of Jesus. And then
think about his family and this dayand you know, and just remember of

(31:03):
the beautiful memories that Bobby gave ushere on earth. Amen, thank you,
nurse, you two, you two, you know it was it was
Bobby that I believe. And Iknow a lot of you have been calling
for years and you know and yearsand and uh that's how we know so

(31:23):
many of you so well. ButBobby believed y'all were superstars. He he
he thought y'all were What did hesay? He he used to always tell
me, like reality TV stars, but y'all are reality radio stars. Yeah.
So Bobby was. Yeah, youknow what I loved about him too.
He always wanted to do what hecould do to make sure that,

(31:47):
uh, if we did do somethingas a station, that it was something
that all of everybody could come to. He always thought about y'all always always
Uh let me see here, Frank, Uh send me an email, he
said. Bobby advise when traveling witha large group, don't dine at a
mom and pop restaurant because there willbe one person in the group who will

(32:10):
complain about anything and everything. Also, keep yourself some white friends because white

hit me up? Girl? Doyou I am? Yep, I'm sure.

(34:22):
I love you. W D IA Hello has Stormy. I'm good?
How were you all right? Angel? I have to tell you my
first job was in Detroit City atwendy I know, back then, Wendy's
used to have that commercial worth ofbeef actually cooked cooked our food, real

(34:45):
and you ate it and it tastedgood. Yes, now it's kind of
totally different and the service ain't whatit used to be. But I also
want to say, I remember BobbyOJ When I moved to Memphis back in
nineteen ninety, I was a teacher'sassistant at Winchester Elementary and if Lady D

(35:06):
is listening, her and a bunchof people came. I was sitting down
and something happened at Winchester School witha student, and I was on the
front page, up front page ofthe Tri State Defender when Cochlan came to
town. A student had hit mein my face and messed my face up,
and Lady D now got the schoolphony and got all the information.

(35:29):
So when it was brought to BobbyOJ show. I was shocked and I
listened and I was like, ohmy god, they taken you know,
my side. They speaking up forme, and it was Lady D a
couple other ladies, and you know, I was like, wow, I
love the station. And that's whatmade me start listening to the Bobby Ojay
station. And Bobbie OJ's always tellme if you got the fact and your

(35:52):
eyes dotted and your tea's crossed, hey come on and speak on the radio.
And Baba ot on their radio.I dit my eyes cross some tea's
and I didn't. I didn't goback into teacher's assistance, but I did
get promoted to a math facilitator atWinchester Elementary. But I loved the Bobby
o j Show because they got everything, like saying they'll say, they ain't

(36:15):
gonna say nothing if they ain't gotthe okay to say it. But they
had my back. And that's whatJohnny b watched What's the Superintendent back then.
But that's what made me start listeningto the FBI. And I met
Jennis Woody loved One one evening andhey, I love it. Jennis Woody
loved to death. I haven't seenher in a while, but I always

(36:36):
held you mean to tell I missher and I loved the Bobby o J
Show from that day Hunt. Inever stopped this week Ah, that's it.
Yeah, I love you like people. Yeah, you have a good
weekend everybody in Memphis. And Iheart radio. Love y'all, love you
bye bye, ah so sweet.I love hearing y'all stories. Y'all are

(36:58):
amazing you. W D I Ahello? Hello? Are you there?
Call of you there? Okay?W D I A Hello? How you
doing? Starmach? Hey, I'mgood. How you doing? I'm doing.
I'm doing fine. Student. Letme say a couple of things in

(37:19):
the breakference to this man from Mississippithat we called by the old Jay.
Bobby OJ was a very cool man. He wasn't big as far as statue,
but his manhood was hut. Hebelieved in carrying himself a certain way.
He believed in being respectful no matterwhat it was. And he loved

(37:42):
a beautiful woman. That's beyondest this, but hey, you have to respect
it. Because Bobby came from thatarea that I try to tell a lot
a lot of young cats about. He was cool. Everyone was cool.
Yeah, he was about the ageand my sister whatever. I'm fifty six
and I truly believe it's still beingcool and everyone else is on a different

(38:06):
page now. But let me saythis about bobbing that radio station. Bobby
made that fun morning show about thelisteners and callers. It wasn't about him,
Yes, it was about them.He wanted to give them an opportunity
to speak, and he made everythingabout them. And you kind of alluded
to that when he did parties orwhatever. He wanted to make sure that

(38:28):
the listening audience was in Bob,I'm telling you, he was that kind
of guy. He did not wanthe didn't like it when we had events
where people had to pay, becausehe wanted people to be He wanted everybody
to be able to come to Yeah, Bobby, they don't make him like
that anymore. And Bobby, youknow, he probably said things that probably

(38:49):
got under people's skin every now andthen, but by it every now and
then, I agree, you know, I'm not gonna say like thieves said,
you know, but I agree withBobby probably you know, about ninety
percent of the time. But Bobbywas a good dude, you know what
I'm saying. He was a goodtech and they don't make him like Bobby
anymore. And I'm telling you thatstation is missing something like Bobby. You

(39:13):
know you're you're doing that answering jobin the evening the time, but I
listened when I came in the morning. Man, they need to make it
more about the callers and listeners.Man, I missed that about Bobby.
And that music Bobby played was secondto none. Yeah, to play music
when the if it was raining acertain day, he knew how to bring

(39:34):
the sun was shining us. Buthe knew based on one was going on
in the times or whatever. Evenwhen sharing passed away, he played some
songs that were strictly about load.Bobby was a bad boy. I'm gonna
truly miss him. And like yousaid, ma'am, condolency to his family.
I know it's a hard day forhim, So it's a hard day

(39:57):
for everybody. It's hard day forMemphis and the radio listening. Yeah,
the way that you had, Oh, thank you, thank you for calling.
I appreciate you. Yes, ma'am, have a good day, all
right, you too, you too, miss Anne? Email me, she
said, good evening, Stormy. You do know Bobby Maythe's folks radio stars,
don't you all of them? LO L me too, Miss Anne.

(40:23):
Oh Man, Yeah he did,and he I'm telling you, we
used to talk about it all thetime. He would, you know,
talk about the radio family, youknow, and and how you guys were
reality radio reality uh stars. Nowhe called you all that did w D

(40:44):
I A hello, Hey Stormy,Hey, how you doing? I'm good?
How are you? Hey, Cassandra? I was calling back Bobby.
It broke my heart right uh thatday, because I had turned on my
radio and and I come back.My friend called me and said something had

(41:07):
happened to Bobby. But oh wait, it's just heartbreaking. But I met
Bobby years ago, him and sheriffat the casino years ago. She's like
a little Bobby Dods. And andthen I met him. I worked at
Delis it's uh you know, andI met her. She came in there

(41:29):
and we come a safe and thenme and her got that Facebook and about
eating stuff, you know, healthythoughts. Yeah, And when I heard
that, it just did something tome. It was like I knew him
personally, you know, because whenyou talk to him, he talked to
you like he really knows you.On the on the radio and I loved

(41:54):
it when him and Terrell couldn't getalong. They were I'm gonna say they
go back and forth. But hehad some great memories and I'm gonna always
keep him in my heart because hewas a beautiful person person. Wow,

(42:14):
