(00:51):
have a lot of football to get to. We'll get
to that in a minute, but first, very important, Mike Harmon,
I need to report a murder. A murder. I saw
a murder on my television and I feel the need
to say because I watched Syracuse just murder. LSU, dude.
Now I know LSU is missing Angel Reese. But wow,

(01:13):
Syracuse just murdered LSU.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
Yeah, so last year was a long time ago for
that squad. You want to talk about the distance between
being national heroes, the story of the.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Day and everything going. It's like Colorado football.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
Everybody's on board and now it's a floating dumpster fire
burning as it goes past you in slow motion.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
That's what we're looking at. But just like, I mean,
I mean, you know, hey, maybe it's okay that Beheim retired.
I'm just saying maybe it's okay that baby I mean,
just maybe, just maybe. I mean, it's clear that Georgia
is not gonna win the national championship now because clearly
Fran Brown, the new head coach at Syracuse Georgia dB coach,
everybody says he's the best recruiter in the country. He's

(01:58):
gonna bring everybody from George with him now, So George's
could be missing everybody for the for the championship games.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
Yet everybody, now, you're just conflating all sorts of stuff.
Everybody to joke between the women's LSU team versus the
men's women's team had that opening loss against Colorado. They've
been rolling along even with the turmoil of Reese not
rejoining the squad.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
You don't need to explain that everybody got the joke.

Speaker 4 (02:21):
They don't.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
I don't know that they do to explain the joke.
You know, No, they got they got the joke. They
got the joke. They got the joke. I got the joke.
They got the joke. You know you want to talk
about explaining you you want a good story, I'll tell
you a good story about this first. This is really yeah,
let's go so because you do not have a new
football coach sports it's no, no, no, this is a
good one. So back when I was doing Fantasy Zone

(02:43):
on uh on Direct TV, and I would be on
Sundays and I was I was, you know, the the
Scott Hansen role of of doing it for Fantasy where
I would throw all the games everything else. It was
a fun gig for a few years and then and
then it got bigger, and then they wound up merging
with NFL Network and all the stuff. So I do that,
and I would and I would go on and I
would find time to do my Berman impression and I

(03:05):
would say and like something like and TJ, here's Cameron
trying to make America break again or something like that.
I would say something to Berman. I would do it right,
just some kind of Berman joke. And my manager just
couldn't stand it. He just couldn't stand it. And he
would say, you got you gotta stop doing Berman? You
got it? Why goes? People don't like it? I said,
who doesn't like it? Who doesn't like it? You got?

(03:26):
You gotta stop? People don't like it? I go tell
me who doesn't like it? I'm having fun doing. Everybody
knows that it's funny. Every the control is laughing. I'm
having fun. If everybody's laughed, everybody's having fun. I don't understand.
So he saw you got to stop doing. I'm like, okay, whatever,
So I forgot. So I go on the air. It's
a seven hour show. I'm on the air for seven
and a half hour loopy after a while, yeah, so
I so I wait and the one I go, all right,

(03:47):
you know what? All right, I'm gonna do just one.
I had a really good one. So I did one
good and seven and a half hours, seven and a
half hours of going from game to game, showing over
a hundred highlights that they don't even do that on
on regular red Zone. We showed more, I show more
highlights what I could do being able. Not that I'm
the greatest guy in the world, but I know what
I did. And they didn't even show as many highlights

(04:07):
as we did, right because I was able to do it.
And so seven and a half hours, I come off
the and I do one Berman I do what in
seven and a half hours? One bourbon? What do you
think is the first And a manager says to me,
gotta stop doing that berman Man. People just don't like it.
I go, what do you mean? What do you say?
What that was? It was it the camera and brake
line in that stuff. No, no, no, no, I was
just saying that because I make America because it was

(04:28):
twenty sixteen, the election was going around for sure. No, no, no,
I made something. It wasn't anything that was I'm not
doing anything that's going to polarize people. It was just
a bourbon that was I forget what it was, but
uh oh, I know what it was. It was somebody
with the same last name as a character in Hamilton
blocked a punt, like someone named Lawns or something. Somebody
blocked a punt and I did I did a Hamilton line.

(04:50):
Did a Burman Hamilton line? Got? People don't like it?
I go, what do you mean? I said? Is he
calling in? Is he calling in to to be upset?
What do you meant? People like? So a three second
line while people are watching a highlight Suddenly that's where
I'm like, you gotta be kidding, Hey, you gotta be kings.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Like, oh my god, folks get excitable. Now here's the
obvious question. I'll ask this for America and for our
crew assembled. They're doing the great job as they do always,
Justin and Alex making a sound so pretty tonight. How
do you snack during that seven hours? Because we know it's,
you know, part of your persona in the radio world.

(05:25):
How did you do that when you were in front
of the camera and they just like stayed on you
all the time? Oh?

Speaker 1 (05:30):
I would I would get like like when we would
go back to New York for the analysis, like if
somebody like I do a bunch of highlights everything else, Okay,
let's go back to New York because like John Hanson,
who's a big fantasy analyst Kay Adams, they would do
like two and a half minutes breakdown of some perform
of whatever somebody's got going on, or if there was
an injury, they would talk about it. So I would

(05:51):
get you know, a few times an hour. I would
get like two minutes. Now in that time, I'm eeting.
We're also watching for high let's get this highlight ready
to go. Here's a thirty yard pass right here. So
I'm kind of eating while I'm working, which is like,
oh my god, it sounds awesome, right because I love
to work and I love to eat. I'm like, oh,
I'm eating at the same butte. So I would get
like two two and a half minutes to eat, you know,
a couple bites of a sandwich. So yeah, I was

(06:12):
I was always able to snack. That was fine.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
No, I'm just trying to make sure that you weren't peaked,
because then you couldn't make the excuse that you know,
your blood sugar was low and in that state you
revert to Berminism's oh a do medical condition?

Speaker 1 (06:27):
Boss? I gotta tell you this. Do I have the
best Berman lines coming up in a few minutes from
a story today? Do I? I've been looking forward to
doing this all day today. I couldn't wait to come
about just to do this, so we have that.

Speaker 4 (06:38):

(07:01):
So from that with the Angel Reaes joke, which is good,
people got it in. The latest college football playoff poll
is out and there are a couple of really big
takeaways from this. Number one no real surprise is the
order Georgia number one, Michigan number two, Washington number three,
Florida State back in the top four because we watched

(07:24):
Ohio State lose to Michigan, and then you have Oregon,
Ohio State, Texas, and Alabama. Those are your one loss teams.
You've got four undefeated teams. You got four to one
loss teams. Now, the easy thing is these are all
winning in situations for the team's ranked one through four.
Most likely wait what, yeah, We'll get to that. Because
you would think, okay, Georgia wins obviously, Michigan the winner

(07:46):
of Washington and Oregon for the top five teams, because
if Oregon beats Washington, Oregon's gonna go over Washington. Washington
will win if they wind up going undefeated. But here's
big takeaway Number one. All right, this is directly from
cf PA Committee Chair Boo Corrigan, which subs the point
guard like that. Really this is a CFP chair Book Coregan.
He sounds like a guy that that that like plays

(08:08):
at Utah and he's got like you know, he's got
like the guys like nine assists a game. Wait, you
see Book Corgan plays that his nickname Boom. They're the
late they're in the lake Nadoso Corrigan. So Boot Corrigan, right,
he's the CFP committee chair. Uh said this on ESPN's
rankings release show. Very excited about it. He said, Rivalry
weekend is coming, very exciting. Here's the big one. Florida

(08:32):
State sitting at number four. Now. Last week they played
their first game without Jordan Travis. Jordan Travis a terrific quarterback.
He's out for the season, and Tate Roademaker was okay, Uh,
and they still found a way to beat Florida twenty
four fifteen. Now, yes, rivalry game, new quarterback, Florida State
found a way to win. You're looking at an undefeated
Florida State team and you would think, hey, okay, Florida

(08:54):
State wins, they win the the they win the AC
championship game against Louisville, they're going to the playoff. But
here is your quote from Boo Corrigan. Different team without
Jordan Travis. It's more than one player, obviously, but they
are a different team obviously without Jordan Travis. But last

(09:15):
week he said that didn't matter. That is a quote
directly directly from the CFP committee chair. Different team without
Jordan Travis. Obviously, they're a different team without Jordan Travis.
They are dying, dying to be able to vault Alabama

(09:36):
or Texas above them and into the top four. Think
they can't do it, Think they won't do it. Just
watch if Florida State struggles and wins another ugly game
like this like they did last weekends against Louisville this weekend,
and it clearly looks like this isn't a great team.
Alabama finds a way to win, or Texas wins huge

(09:57):
in the Big twelve Championship game. You watch them find
any way possible to move Florida State out, and then
you're gonna see craziness ensue. And all they're gonna say
is Florida State was a really good tay But now
without a quarterback, are they one of the top four
teams in the country. We don't think so. We think
Texas is, We think Alabama is. This is what we think. Now,

(10:19):
certain things have to look. Alabama's got to win, Texas
has to win. They't even try to find a way
to move Ohio State up, who didn't even play well.
We think Ohio State, who didn't play, is better than Florida.
But Florida State just played in one. Yeah, it doesn't matter.
You see this quote, and you know the committee is
dying to bump Florida State out of there, even with
a win. They are hoping just win. A win is

(10:40):
sixteen thirteen thirteen twelve win Like the Bears beat the
Vikings last night twelve to ten without a touchdown. Have
your started quarterback throw four interceptions and we are knocking
Florida State out of number four. Because there's no reason
for that statement, It's just it should be Hey, we
got four undefeated teams. Florida State's the best team in
the ACCO. What they did without their starting quarterback short

(11:02):
week against their arrival. Look at them come back and
win this game. Florida State's terrific team. Why suddenly are
you sitting here saying Florida State obviously different team without
Jordan Travis. That is a fastball down the middle. You
need to see that. They are dying to move Florida
State out.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
Yeah, it's just funny because last week, while while you
were on holiday holiday, holiday quota, it was really about
Washington and what Washington did this weekend. Well, they didn't
didn't play particularly well, but they got their victory. And
then it kept going. That's what the next couple of
weeks are gonna be about. The key is not projecting

(11:41):
what it will be the following week after the conference
championship games. We can look at who's going to be
available and who's not going to be available. He had
a one liner in there. You know, it's not about
one player, just like he threw in today. But it
was very quick to point out, no, no, no, no no,
it's got nothing, nothing, nothing to do with that liar.

(12:02):
That's all I can say, liar, And to your point,
they're a two and a half point favorite against Louisville,
And it's all about projecting what makes for a better,
more competitive Final four TV show. We've been talking about
this for years. You know, if it's just based on
what you did, you know you're not shuffling up any
of these teams, right, they won succeed and proceed Those

(12:24):
top teams shouldn't have moved at all. Then if that's
the case, right, I just slide. You know, Florida State
back up with Ohio State losing, and you know you
correct your previous mistake. So now we have the potential
for chaos, and you know me, I love chaos in
between the white lines. But we've got some heavy spreads
in some of these games.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
Right.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
Texas is a two touchdown favorite, Michigan's a twenty three
point favorite. We'll talk more about the PAC twelve final
title game over all the marbles one last time. We'll
celebrate it like it's a series finale of your favorite sitcom,
because that's really what it's been a joke off it.

(13:06):
So especially did just that graphics problem they had the
other day, Did you see that on their farewell game
where it was the first.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
Name, last name, x yards, about time, about time to
say goodbye, It's time to think.

Speaker 3 (13:21):
The graphics guy was hitting the egg nog. He was like,
we're done anyway, What the hell's the difference X yard
touchdown run by first name, last name. So yeah, it's
potential for gas there, but yeah, boot Corgan has said
the quiet part out loud.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
Just just wait, watch what watch what happens.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
We got Pete fu Tech coming up in about twenty minutes.
College Football Insider, what does he make of the playoff
poll that we have right now? Is the college football
playoff comittees we talked about last hour just dying to
drop Florida State out of the top four. But there's
another big takeaway from this mic that I want to
get to here for a few and before you get

(14:10):
to that crazy story out of the NBA, is that
you know, you look at the poll that came out
tonight and Florida State back in the top four. There
number four Georgia number one, Michigan number two, Washington number three,
Florida State, Oregon, Ohio State, Texas, Alabama. That's how your
top eight shakes out, right, Georgia, Michigan, Washington, Florida State, Oregon,

(14:31):
then Ohio State six, Texas seven, Alabama eight.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
Don't forget to round out the top ten because it's
important for the overall conversation of this.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
Well, you got a bunch of two loss teams.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
But in terms of when you start making arguments about
all of this stuff, right, Missouri and Penn State finishing
out the top ten. The Penn State is the double
underscore one.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
So when you look at what is sitting at five
and seven, Oregon over ten Texas, and that's a really
big deal because Texas is kind of screwed because Texas
is gonna play the big twelfth CHAMPIONI game against Oklahoma State.
What the what are they favored by nine touchdowns in
that game?

Speaker 5 (15:13):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (15:13):
The game? Yeah, And Oregon's gonna play Washington, who's the
number three team in the rankings and the top five
team in college football. When you look then you're looking
at Oklahoma State and they're ranked eighteenth in the playoff poll.
Now that game's gonna be in our window, which is
gonna be kind of cool, so we're gonna get to
talk about it. But is there any way that Texas

(15:35):
able to leap frog? Or that's why Oregon Washington is
a win and in game, because nobody's gonna jump up
ahead of Oregon, and Texas certainly is gonna jump up
ahead of Oregon with a win because Texas can beat
Oklahoma State fifty eight to three, and if Oregon beats
Washington twenty eight, twenty seven doesn't matter. So I look
at Texas kind of got the short end of the
stick because right now you look at what the the

(15:57):
the the teams were on both sides and wins, and
you're talking about big wins. You know, look, Oregon's terrific team,
right and I told you how good bo Nix is,
and you know he's gonna win the Heisman Trophy on Saturday.
But Oregon doesn't have a win like Texas does over Alabama.
They just don't. And you can you can say, well,
the resume, the overall resume. When you play a bunch

(16:18):
of teams that are Jags, it doesn't matter if one
team is just a little bit more of a jag
than the other team. It doesn't. The jag teams are
all the jag teams. When you have a win over
a really good team, you're talking about top five, top seven,
top eight teams, that's a really big deal. Michigan's win
over Ohio State is better than any win almost anybody
else has had on the schedule this year. When you

(16:40):
beat a top team, you beat a top five, top
six team, that's a really big deal, or you know,
top seven, top eight team and they don't have a
win like like Texas does. And I'm really surprised at
that that it's just the pageantry of the PAC twelve.
And oh, I think the PAC twelve is good. But yeah, okay,
I get it. But I think we saw the PAC
twelve kind of, you know, came back to the pack

(17:01):
a little bit over the course as a season one.
I was great in the first six seven weeks. Oh,
the Pack twelve is leaving. Pack twelve has kind of
come back to the pack. And that's the last time
I said the word pack. But I mean, when I
got I say, okay, hey, you're talking about two teams
and one loss, and Texas has the has the much
bigger win than Oregon has. The one game they played,
they could have had a bigger win on they lost.

(17:22):
So it's really hard for me to see that the
Texas is not over Oregon in this and Texas screwed
at it. Because unless you get chaos, which is Florida
State losing or not playing really really well, unless you
get something in that top four, Texas is gonna be
on the outside looking at Yeah.

Speaker 3 (17:36):
And I mean it's something we addressed a little bit yesterday.
Was the idea that that week two game seems like
many miles ago and another season ago. Right, So when
these guys are in the room, just like Boo went
out of his way to point out, you know how
Florida State, you know, it's a different team. It's only

(17:57):
one guy, but it's a different team, and acknowledging the
elephant in the room there, I'd like to hear when press,
you know, foot to the fire, doesn't that actually look better?

Speaker 1 (18:08):
You know that win over Alabama now, right, doesn't that
look better? I would think? I don't know.

Speaker 3 (18:17):
I mean, you know, trying to read tea leaves because
year to year, you know what the criteria are and
how they evaluate those early season games that you know,
they try to encourage teams to play, right, we want
these big marquee games, just like the NFL does their thing,
I think needlessly for them were the first couple of weeks,
we got some big marquee matchups to get you suckered

(18:39):
in and welcome you to the new NFL season. College
football actually gets a little of that, and I think
they need a little bit of that, and it's good
that teams do create and go for those challenges and
we get some classics off the jump. If that's part
of the equation of nah, you know what that's that's
that Alabama team. You know, well, that wasn't very good,

(19:01):
so we're gonna we're gonna dismiss that as opposed to
you know, they're really good now and maybe you should
have acknowledged you just got them early, so you know,
in your thinking and rankings and everything else, there should
be more consideration there. Yeah, I think, you know, when
we look at it on the whole, they're they're probably
gonna need a whole lot of chaos for things to happen.

(19:23):
I mean, because just just thinking, you know, because of
the the thinking of the larger you know, the mass
hysteria that's been surrounding Michigan. What if Iowa hangs around
like they'll still be undefeated, But does it jumble everything?

Speaker 1 (19:40):
You know, maybe I can see her, I could see
Michigan like dropping from second to third. But I mean, really,
you're a big twelve, you're a big ten team. You
beat Ohio State, You're Michigan. Yeah, look, we know you're
dropping out.

Speaker 3 (19:52):
I'm just saying that it's it's enough to wear the
ripple effect, not just that it would move Michigan a
spot or two. But maybe you rethink a lot of
stuff into that force slot if you get full chaos.

Speaker 1 (20:04):
Oh man, I'll tell you, but I'll the biggest thing.
The the playoff committee is both praying and hoping against
Alabama beating Georgia. That's right, Like, on one hand, they
wanted because they want Alabama in, but they're like, oh
my god, the chaos that would happen. We would have
to make our vote and then go on vacation to
Greenland or Antarctica. And we made our vote. I'm good.

(20:25):
I'm on getting on a plane.

Speaker 3 (20:28):
The game, making a bad call and recognizing it and
running to the hills.

Speaker 4 (20:32):
What do you got prosper It all means nothing. If
Florida State beat Louisville.

Speaker 1 (20:36):
Yeah, I don't know, man, You mean you don't know
if they undefeated Florida State. If Florida State.

Speaker 4 (20:41):
Florida State beats Louisville, they're in. There's no fans or.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
Florida State looks bad. And I mean if they look
the vikings bet now, I don't think they did. You
saw the CFP chairman said, hey, hey, Florida State, good
to different team without Jordan Travis. The guy said it
twice on television. Hey great, it's more than one guy can.

Speaker 4 (21:02):
Undefeated.

Speaker 1 (21:03):
There he's the but he's the guy that has the
dec makes the de sho.

Speaker 3 (21:06):
I like what you're saying in buttery justin and in
a fair and right world, yeah, you're one hundred percent
trust this committee to do everything correctly.

Speaker 1 (21:18):
Hell no, no, no, And and that's the point to it.
In a perfect world, if you're looking at it going
undefeated winning the ACC, I don't care how many quarterbacks
you lose. You could be down to playing Charlie Ward
at quarterback at this point. You go undefeated, and there's
only three other teams undefeated. Yes, you're in the playoff.
But this commit they open the door to the fact that, yeah,
Florida State, different team without their quarterback, and are we

(21:40):
really going to put them in the playoff if we
think that other teams are better? If Texas wins big,
if Alabama, if Alabama wins big, that's the chaos thing.
That's that's why I mean, they're both hoping it happens,
hoping it doesn't that because it would be unbelievable because
they could find a way to get Alabama and Georgia
in for the essen, but they could also find a
way to go. How do you you, how do you

(22:01):
how do you defend pushing other teams out or an
undefeated Florida State team or you know somebody, how do
you defend doing that? Because that's gonna be the worst thing.
So it's both great and terrible. But Truck, they open
the door for it. Man, they open the door.

Speaker 3 (22:14):
And all Boo has to then say, Boot Corgan his
answer is, look, I'm coaching the defense.

Speaker 1 (22:19):
Don't ask the question again. Now we'll have again, We'll
have more on college football coming up in a few minutes.

Frostburg Tomorrow night, Lakers tournament game. Right, We're all no,
it's not a league game.

Speaker 4 (22:53):
Smoky's Lakers are already finished with their h They've already
advanced to the semi, so are done for now.

Speaker 1 (23:01):
So it doesn't matter like they these games don't matter.

Speaker 4 (23:03):
They roll to the semis like Jesus.

Speaker 1 (23:05):
They run. I really hope they make the finals. So
it's a big in season tournament. Gat you know, tonight
we watch the teams win. Everybody's getting there. It's kind
of getting I guess interesting. But uh, this story out
today that the semifinals and the finals are coming up
in Vegas. Starting to see commercials about this on the
NBA Semifinals and Finals in Vegas coming up soon and

(23:28):
right now, the NBA is selling tickets for this event
in Vegas. Buy one, get three tickets. Yeah, let's go.

Speaker 4 (23:39):
That's just for the Knicks.

Speaker 1 (23:41):
It's it's like going to Stephen Barri's when they were
around by one item at full price, get three free.
It's like, oh, this is great. Or you go to
that one place on campus and college that was always
by one item, get two free, right, or everything is
thirty percent on on Monday whatever, it's like, oh this
is I feel like if this is Stephen Barry, they
buy one ticket, get three tickets free. That's how much

(24:04):
we're struggling with this in season tournament. And you know,
I don't know. When I look at big business and
I see them fail, I say to myself, how do
people get this far in big business? Right? Really? I mean,
the NBA decided that we're gonna have these games come
as part of the regular season, and we're gonna paint
the court to tell people what it is and what

(24:26):
it isn't, and we're gonna have the games someplace else
that's not where teams are gonna play. How do they
how are they how do they get to that and go, Yes,
that's how we're gonna maximize the NBA in season tournament
to make it something that people don't really understand, or
they're gonna do it at the beginning of the season,
when the excitement of the regular season is already new.

(24:46):
You don't need to worry about it. Yet. I don't
get how this was the idea that went through. I
really don't because the easiest thing to do for the
end season to ed. Look, the players are are enjoying
it as much as they can. The players are saying
a lot of good things about it, and it's getting
as much positivity as you can get for a tournament
that's just an absolute mess. And now you know no
one wants to go see it. Obviously, teams are waiting

(25:08):
to see who's gonna play in those tournaments. But when
you're given away, when you're doing a buy one, get
three free, you know you're in trouble.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (25:15):
All you had to do was have this after the holidays.
Have it after the holidays are over, and you play
the games and it becomes just part of the schedule,
right it comes, Hey, we're stopping the regular season and
now we're playing the n season tournament games They can
count as regular season games if you want to. They
could not count as regular season games. It doesn't matter.

(25:35):
But you play them, and you play it at everybody's arena,
and you're counting, and you have separate standings now that
you're keeping for the next two and a half weeks,
three weeks. It's the NBA in season tournament. And these games,
like I said, they can count for the regular season.
They can knock count because it doesn't matter. Right, it
doesn't matter because you're still getting home games. Everybody's getting
the same number of home games play. Everything is fine,

(25:58):
but you actually make it a tournament. You can't. You
can't make a tournament and have a tournament go on
where something else is going on at the same time.
You don't play the NFL playoffs and then play some
kind of other tournament. Well, the teams that didn't make
the playoffs are actually playing their own tournament that say that, no,
there's no consolation round. They don't do that. It would
have been so easy for the NBA to just say, Okay,

(26:18):
after the doldrums, after the holidays come, we get into January,
we're gonna have our tournament, right or whatever, whenever you
want to do it. We're gonna have our tournament now.
It's gonna be three and a half week. It's gonna
be awesome. Everybody gets the same money. We get more
money from TV because we're advertising this as the end
season tournament. We're making it a trophy. You can win,
it a big deal. We're giving the players money. The
players like because it's five hundred grand a person if

(26:40):
you win, so the stakes are there for them. It
would have been so easy to do it that way.
And I don't know how this became the idea where
we're gonna paint the courts and make sure that that
teams put it on social media, and we're gonna have
the games go every other game or every three games.
This is a tournament game. It's not a tournament game.
How does that get okay? When what I just laid
out there could have been an easy way to make

(27:00):
the tournament a one time right away. Hey, I love
the tournament. It's awesome right away. I get it. I'm
excited about it. It's its own thing. If we win
the n season tournament, I can celebrate like we're like
we're one part of an NBA championship squad. I don't
get it. I'll get it, man.

Speaker 3 (27:16):
Yeah, I think A lot of it comes down to
you're not you know when you go into your separate thing.
Are we still only going the eighty two total games?
We got to add more games, and then we got
to look at the CBA and we got to fight
about dollars and cents and roll all that through. I
would say short term in terms of the ticket issue
that they have really quickly, you know, the buy one,

(27:36):
get three free. They're coming out of all of the
chaos that was the F one race, which went off
really well and looked fantastic in the middle of the
night and everything as it finally got underway and for
stopping no matter the surface goes and wins. He won
again this week and Abu Dhabi, by the way, But
they had all those and they're not done tearing that down.
So you got all those pitfalls. Like you said, in

(27:58):
terms of domes stickley folks trying to decide, well, do
I want to go just watch any team or do
I gotta wait for mine. I would hope you'd be
really pushing towards the international fan base to try to
get them to Vegas for the holiday holiday holiday, But
at this point you just want butts and seats and
then you can charge them ten bucks a hot dog.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
Well the big football news of the night, The new
and next to last college football playoff poll is out.
Georgia number one, Michigan number two, Washington number three, Florida
State back at number four. They are your four undefeated teams.
Oregon at five, Ohio State at six, Texas at seven,

(28:50):
Alabama at eight. Those are your one loss teams as
chaos could reign following this weekend. Joining us now to
break it all down. Guy who's been pointing at this
chaos for a couple of weeks now. He is the editor, proprietor, owner,
governor manager of College Footballnews dot com. You're one stop

(29:13):
shopping for everything college football, all the previews, all the analysis.
You can follow him on Twitter at Pete feu tech.
It is Pete feutech. What's happening, Bud?

Speaker 5 (29:23):
What's going on? Gentlemen? So how are we thinking? Dino
Babers is gone, Michigan wins. This is just kind of
a time for you guys. You guys, are you know
living it up?

Speaker 1 (29:33):
Hey, dude, I look at it this way. I think
George is basically I don't know that they're even going
to make it into the playoff full because fran Brown's
gonna take all those players to Syracuse next week. They're
not going to have a kids. Guys.

Speaker 5 (29:43):
Yeah, absolutely, there's no Why save him now for this?
You know who cares if you're in the playoffs, Go
go take Syracuse, Go do something special, Hue Show.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
All right, So let's get into what the chaos would
be or pecause it's something that you've talked about for
the last few weeks. You see the games top four obviously,
you know everybody seems to be in a winning in situation.
But let's start with Florida State. When I saw the
Playoff Committee chair bout Corgan say today on television, Hey,

(30:13):
Florida State, different team without Jordan Travis. They're more than
one player, but obviously different team without Jordan Travis. Is
there a scenario in which the Florida State Seminoles win ugly,
kind of like the Bears beating the Vikings last night,
and they get knocked out of the top four, because
I feel like they're kind of laying the groundwork for
that a little bit.

Speaker 3 (30:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (30:33):
Yeah, but that would take something absolutely historically strange because remember,
in the College Football Playoffs era, we have never had
an undefeated Power five conference champion not get in. We
have never had a one loss Power five conference champion
get left out for a team that didn't win a

(30:57):
Power five conference other than Notre Dame going to twelve
and oh and taking out Ohio State who got rim
rocked by Purdue. But that was a special scenario. It's
Notre Dame, it's twelve and oh and they're really kind
of in the ACC. So for them to do that
would basically to just completely obliterate all precedent in the

(31:17):
history of this three fifth year of the College Football Playoffs.
My argument on the flip side of this is, so
it's based on what you're basically with, not a quarterback,
and if you go by the body of work, did
they kind of rock LSU and the opener? Yeah? Did
they would go thirteen to oh and win their Power

(31:37):
five conference?

Speaker 3 (31:38):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (31:39):
And why are we just crowning Georgia and Alabama? Because
the SEC continues to be especially after this last weekend,
the worst of the Power five conference to conferences against
other Power five conferences, and look, Georgia, like, if you
got to take out the it's the two time defending
national championship or because that actually shouldn't matter if you

(32:02):
actually look at their body of work, it kind of
gotten blown off that. Okay, oh, Florida State wasn't the
same thing. They Georgia didn't exactly destroy Georgia Tech. You know,
they've been okay, but they beat Missouri. Okay, they beat
who they're ole missed. That's fine. But if we're gonna
give this blind love to a let's say a one

(32:24):
loss Georgia team has to get in if they move
to Alabama, that would then say that they they just
lost to a team that was ranked eighth and needed
a fourth and forever play to get by a team
that got destroyed by New Mexico State the week before.
So there's a whole lot of parts of this that
kind of get assumed that, well, the SEC's got to
get a team in. Not really, if you really kind

(32:47):
of bust it down that really.

Speaker 3 (32:50):
I like the way I like to cut of your
jib and you just made Paul fine bomb's head exploded
and nobody knows why.

Speaker 5 (32:58):
Not the first time, by the way, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (33:00):
No, But what we look at it, you know, Pete,
when we talk about chaos theories and all of this
running down, if you were going to set precedent, it
all changes next year and everybody's joining new conferences and
whatever next year. Anyway, So you could do whatever the hell.

Speaker 5 (33:12):
You want pretty much, I mean, you do, But it's
also not really fair to be with the first day,
day one of when they set this thing up. I
was there. I shook I shook Bill Tancock's hand.

Speaker 1 (33:25):
I should go, you shook his hand.

Speaker 5 (33:27):
It's like Sinatra's hand, exactly, It's exactly. I should know better.
Uh So I was with and they've a very they've
made a very big point to kind of say, to
keep everything loose because they don't want to commit to
any rigid thing that they would have to backtrack on.
So look, they could do it their panel of judges.

(33:48):
They could take you know, Louisia Monroe and you Mas
and Syracuse if they want. But you know, they're really
not bound by anything but to do this, they're kind
of leaving themselves open. But again, they said number one
over anything else. Who won their Power five conference championships?
So start with this, who after the next weekend, who

(34:09):
are the five Power five conference champions? And even if
it's a one loss Georgia, they take a step back
in the pecking order here because you know, again, here's
the craziest of crazy scenarios. Let's say Washington doesn't move
to Oregon. Not crazy here, Let's say Michigan wins, Washington wins,
Florida State wins. You have three, you know, undefeated Power

(34:33):
five champions, and Texas absolutely obliterates Oklahoma State and then
Alabama upsets Georgia. Tell me how an SEC team gets in.

Speaker 1 (34:46):
Pete. Not only that, tell me how Alabama gets in
over Texas because people, people are going to conveniently forget. Yeah,
but they played earlier this year. Now, but that was
in September. We don't count that game. That doesn't count anything.

Speaker 5 (35:00):
I am this is all speculation because we never ever
know until but we find out after the conference championships
are played. I am under the purest of beliefs. Actually,
when I was down there in Grape Fine texts all times,
there's a little box that said, in case of emergency,
break glass for Alabama, and like they just they just
went in doubt. They just go to that thing and

(35:20):
just say, oh, oh Alabama, okay, you know, and they
just that's their that's their teddy bear, that's they that's there,
it's their happy place. So I am if they if
Alabama beats Georgia, the party line will be simple Alabama.
That is a different team now they changed Bill Rose
better blah blah blah. And they beat the number one

(35:41):
team in the country. Are are the number one? They
beat them, so they are the SEC champion. They're getting in.
That's how they get in over Texas.

Speaker 1 (35:51):
There it is.

Speaker 3 (35:52):
You've set it up perfectly. I love it that we
can run Ocean's thirteen lines together. He's Pete fu Tech
with us here Jason Smith Show with Me, Mike Harman,
College Footballnews dot Com, where you find him at Pete
futech on x slash Twitter. His tagline quote, it's not
my fault your school isn't better at college football. So

(36:12):
as we look at it, Pete, you know, we keep
waiting for chaos. And Jason and I have been going
and dissecting it every way to Sunday. The Texas thing
is really the problem. And then we haven't even mentioned
Michigan at this point. They get the victory over Ohio State,
Jim Harbaughs now back and everything's right with the world

(36:32):
and they're a twenty three point favorite. Yay the hot guys.

Speaker 5 (36:38):
I Hey, someone's got to play them.

Speaker 1 (36:40):
Someone's got to be there, right, Yeah.

Speaker 5 (36:42):
Someone's gotta do it. Someone's gotta play you know, Yes,
last week it was a big picture. Okay, Michigan. Then
just go beat them, take care of business, and you're
in the Rose Bowl, you know, so that's you're in Pasadena,
that's that's set done. Go out there, win thirty eight
six and just you know, take care of business and
don't even mess around. So it's even if it's the
weird part about the college football since playoffs scenario scenario

(37:05):
at this point. And by the way, my basic argument
also is this, why are we just assuming we should
be bending over backwards for a one loss Georgia when
their loss would be worse to Alabama than Ohio States
would be going on the road and losing on the
final drive to number three Michigan. And if you look
at the best wins, well, the Ohio State went to

(37:27):
Notre Dame and they beat Penn State. Technically it's about
as good as beating Ole miss and Missouri, And yet
Georgia's being said, oh, we got to put Georgia in, Well, why,
you know, not necessarily. But with that said, Michigan, it's
hard to find a scenario, even with a loss to
Iowa where they're not in. You would have to have

(37:48):
a whole lot of funky things happen, including Alabama beating Georgia.
It's because the problem is of Alabama beats Georgia that
triggers the whole Texas Alabama debate. If Georgia beats Alabama,
you don't really have Texas in the mix. You can
still argue that, all right, well Michigan lost, you know,
and they beat Ohio State, that's still pretty good. We

(38:09):
could probably get Michigan in there because you know, bad
day against Iowa, but that would be the hard part
where you lost to Iowa. And if Texas wins the
Big Big twelve championship, they're a champion, so that would
get a little bit quirky. But it really is kind
of hard to see where Michigan's are not in our
college football playoffs, all right, Pete.

Speaker 1 (38:26):
Let me throw this by it because we thought it
was done last year. I watched CJ. Stroud say I'm
never going to get to play in the playoff. I
got to live with that, and then hey, we back in. Yeah,
let's just say Georgia beats Alabama, Texas loses in the
Big twelve championship game, Florida State loses to to Louisville.
Does Ohio State by not playing sneak by everybody like

(38:49):
they did last year? Does that happen?

Speaker 5 (38:51):
It's doable. It is absolutely the you know, because in
this scenario, you're assuming that you've got to assume that
Ohio State not getting it over Michigan. So just you know,
however that works, Michigan be diohare fine. And in this scenario,
there's no real way, Ohouse it's going to jump the
PAC twelfth champion either way, however that works. So there's
two spots filled. Then you've got to just kind of

(39:14):
assume that you know that you're right Alabama's got to
beat Georgia. But then you have to have the argument
of that I just said, do you give Ohio State
the nod over Georgia. That's kind of tough. So you
almost need Georgia to beat Alabama, so there's a third spot.
Texas has to lose, Florida State has to lose, and

(39:34):
then Ohios they get that fourth spot. It's not as
crazy as you think, because again, as we're talking about before,
Florida State are would we be shocked if Louisville right
rows up and won this? Well yeah, I don't think
they're going to, but if they did, Okay, you know,
Florida State's kind of kind of looking like they're begging
to get tagged. Here's that would be too crazy. And
you know if Oklahoma State goes crazy and it's Texas,

(39:55):
they're going to blow it at some point. So you know, no,
it's not crazy to think that, ohiose they it's completely obymous.

Speaker 3 (40:01):
Louisville just a two and a half point dog. All right,
let's take it back to Saturday as you watch the
theater unfold. How much did you really enjoy watching the
internet blow up about Ryan Day.

Speaker 5 (40:15):
I just published the piece today where it's like it's
insane how hard it is to find a college football
head coach who's with you for three years and win
sixty percent of their games like it is you think
that that can't be that big a deal. Win six
out of every ten games and be around for three years.

(40:35):
It's insanely low. It's like only a quarter of the
college football coaches are still there doing that, And like
when you take it the five years, you're only talking
like eleven of them. Here you've got a guide, Ryan Day,
who beats everybody and just can't get by Michigan over
last years, and everyone wants Tom gone, and like, okay,
who are you getting Ohio State who is not going

(40:58):
to only not going to beat Michigan, but also never
ever ever lose to Penn State or Maryland or Michigan State.
And if you look at the Ryan Day resume, the
losses are to all college football playoff and or national
championship teams. He comes with it except for one loss
to Oregon, it should have been a tack twelve title.

(41:19):
And he comes with it a miskick of winning the
national championship last year. And they want him gone because
he can't beat Michigan. And like you said, we're not
that crazy away from them getting into the playoffs with
a chance. I think in this tournament I'm not coming
them out. I think there's still good enough to win
this thing if they get in. So it is insane

(41:40):
in that rivalry, you cannot lose to the other side.

Speaker 1 (41:45):
You can follow on Twitter at Pechu tech. That is

because you know Ryan Day would do it. If somehow
Ohio State slid in, he would have a press conference

(42:28):
live on television, stick his middle fingers up and go
still want to be fired and again we backed it again.

Speaker 3 (42:36):
I know how much this means to everybody and everything
associated with the program. Yeah he Uh you want to
talk about a guy that would be taking a victory
lap and you know he'd grab a broom and ride,
ride the broom and the whole thing, you know.

Speaker 1 (42:54):
Mocking the world.

Speaker 3 (42:55):
