Well.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
Here we are Monday night, watching some sweet ass uniforms.
The Bengals going white Tiger, and so far it's work
twenty one fourteen over the Jaguars early in the third quarter.
I gotta tell you it's a pretty cool look.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
It's not the Eagles.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Kelly Green. Let's let's be let's be clear. For the
chargers powder blue.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
Yes, but we've seen the charger powder blues. We see
them alive. I've had no, I've had twenty years of
Chris Bourbon.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
Saying, and no better uniforms than the powder blues of
the chargiers.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
See that. That's why I we benefited from muting him.
And look at the power. Look how great those uniforms.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
No right now, best uniforms in the NFL Eagles, Kelly Green, Yeah,
these are pretty sweet.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
Those these are nice. This is this kind of gives
me a sig Freed and Roy, you know, the spinning
around on it. Very nice, very nice.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
It had me thinking of haff I don't know why,
Like the weather.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
Just like Hawf uniforms. I don't know why, but.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
I feel like it's like it's like it hot, like
it's off, like they're ready to invade. And oh man,
we sent those probes all across the galaxy and one
came back and I said, no, there they are, and
we they just happened again.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
They were ahead of their time. I mean, those are
the drones now that should be like all the laser
lions for the first downs and reviews and everything.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Well, let me let me get because here's the thing,
just really quick about the empires, because I've always had
this thing, is that the ad ats were these huge
and and the and the atsets were these huge, big things.
Oh my god, look how big they are. They're coming
at you. All you had to do was like destroy
him from behind. They wouldn't turn around. You just send
a ship all you just send a ship all the
way around, and it comes all the way around, and
(02:22):
it comes by and starts chating.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
You blow it up. It couldn't turn around. Then you
basically got to steal straight from the karate kid sweep
the lakes. How does General Reaken not figure that out?
Speaker 1 (02:32):
It's like, dude, you just go all the way, go
all the way to launch, all the way to the side, right,
It's not like they had them and their heads didn't
turn so.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
All the way on the side. Wasn't all the way
around building come in low as you're attacking. Yeah, and
then easiest thing, great.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Toys thing, Oh great toym phenomenal in the day.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
Percent Uh.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
But here we are right now midway through the third quarter,
and and you know, a bit of a shocker, and
again something that winds up pissing me off about the Jets,
but a bit of a shocker because the Bengals are
on top of Jacksonville twenty one fourteen, and it's been
a big night so far that no one is really
expected to see from the Bengals offense. Seventy six yard
(03:12):
touchdown pass from Jake Browning to Jamar Chase gives them
the lead. Browning's now thrown for two sixty. He's having
a big night. Two incomplete passes for Browning, a right mixing.
They're running the ball pretty well. Chase brown is getting
some run now finally. You know, they drafted him to
replace Joe Mixon, but he had been hurt for a while.
They are playing extremely well. And again this is what
(03:32):
pisses me off about the Jets. We'll get to the
Zach Wilson stuff. We'll get to the bach.
Speaker 4 (03:36):
Oh, we got plenty of time for that. Get to
the Zach. Does he not want to play? Does he plays?
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Is that you can sit here and say all along,
and it's a bigger point about the Bengals and other teams. Right,
did Aaron Rodgers getting hurt suck for the Jets? Yes,
sucked for the Jets sucked for me, especially NFL fans.
We were robbed of this great storyline. Right, it stinks,
But realize that the Bengals lost their franchise quarterback for
(04:03):
the season. The Browns lost their franchise quarterback for the season, right,
The Colts lost their franchise quarterback for the season. The
Vikings lost their franchise quarterback for the season. Not only that,
but three of those teams also lost top five players
at their position for a long time point. The Browns
lost the best running back of the NFL in Nick
(04:24):
Chubb for the season. The Colts were without Jonathan Taylor
Thomas for the first four weeks and now they're without.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
Him for a couple of weeks here, right.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
And the Vikings have been without Justin Jefferson, second best
receiver in the NFL going on six weeks, supposed to
come back after the bye this week. So you lost
your franchise quarterback, and you lost one of the top
five position players in a skill position players in the league.
All of those teams and the Bengals here too, and
still they're all able to stay in the playoff race.
They're all able to stay in around five hundred. So
(04:53):
forget this. Oh the Jet. Yes, it's screwed. You got screwed.
But you know what this is why the Jets are
a tear down because it's new GM, new head coach
new oc knew what they need, new everything. Because obviously
the roster's not that great, or they would win more games.
I'm not saying they'd be eight and three, but they
would be around five hundred. But they can't find a
way to win games when all the other teams that
(05:14):
have lost their guys all find a way to it.
The Jets are a tear downs watching this tonight with
John Browning going. Of course, this guy who nobody even
knew who he was. Yeah, nineteen out of twenty's called
them John shows Jay. I mean to what Jake Browning
tonight one hundred? Well, I mean, you know, guy's name,
Jake can be named John. But to watch him come in, yeah,
sure to watch Tommy DeVito come in. Yeah, I'm the
toast of the town. I'm Tommy Cutler's Yeah that's great quarterback.
(05:38):
Uh Derby now in New York with toront Taylor back
in the home. These teams right there on the graph,
the Bears, Joe slacka was on his bleeping couch a
week ago. Hey, here's two sixty and two touchdowns and
what I mean, really that's what you want to blame that.
But if you say, well, wins and losses aren't a
quarterback stat, you know that's a good stat for the
GM and the head coach and Joe Douglas, Robert Sala.
(05:59):
They're winning percentage are three thirty. Right, this is not working.
You know why you have two seasons in a row
with five game losing streaks because you're a bad football team.
The Jets are a tear to It sucks, but everybody
else has found a way around it, and the Jets
have not found a way around it. And every time
I watch Jake Browning throw a pass and throw a
touch ups great, this is great. All these other guys,
(06:19):
all these other guys, the teams even know, can you
throw a football? Yes, you're our third string quarterback. I
guess now you're starting. Just throw the ball at Jamar
Chase Well, find a way to happen. All these other
teams find a way to make it.
Speaker 5 (06:28):
Hap.
Speaker 4 (06:28):
I dig this. You know we're talking about a close
game on Monday Night Football Week thirteen, AFC South leading Jaguars,
these sweet ass uniforms in the Bengals, and you managed
to make it immediately about the Jets. Yeah, you couldn't
celebrate Jake Browning for a few minutes. We did not
how good he is. Now, Yeah, we're beating him like
(06:48):
a pinata because you were hate watching Jake Browning while
you're doing it. Well, I'll be fair. It's moaning about
your Jets and they're ineptitude. Jake's brown plenty to talk
about with that. Jake Browning is having a big night.
He is having a fantastic night. Finally had a nice
long throw down field.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
That was the big breakthrough moment. But the Jets stink. Okay,
there he goes. I gave Jake Browning some credit there
by telling me that the Jets. But I'm telling you
whose fault. It's not just all the fault. The Jets
can't get the quarterback, right, you know what, Nobody else
had good quarterbacks.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
You can't can't get anything.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
No, they can't. I mean, oh my god, you beat
you beat the Patriots. We can't even beat the Patriots.
You beat them six nothing.
Speaker 6 (07:27):
Just know as much as the Jets sock and the
bear sock the Patriots sock more.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
Yeah, I hurt my eyes by watching that game yesterday. Win,
succeed and proceed, no question, Yeah brown again. But I
thought you celebrate them all. I do, But you just
it's still hurt.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
They Yeah, you said hurt. You're right, but it can't
hurt You're you can't celebrate. No, you've never celebrated through
a birthday that was painful.
Speaker 4 (07:52):
I don't, cell. I don't celebrate those like where you're struggling,
you're having it, like stuff going on in your in
your life, your family, whatever. But you still celebrate youth.
But it could be a lesser, lesser birthday got a
rank but it's last. Yeah, but just like that football
game is going to rank down with what the Bears
(08:14):
and Panthers and Jets have been putting on the field.
If they're all fun, some are more degrees a fine moment.
Would you said this was not fun, yet you're still celebrating.
I don't celebrate things that are not fun. You say,
I celebrate them all Jets and fun, the Jets mutually exclusive. Anyway,
back to Browning, he did complete a pass beyond twenty yards.
I believe air yards. We've got to go back and
(08:36):
check it. But that passed to Jamar Chase might have
been at twenty one yards because I heard on the
first half Kurt Water on the radio broadcast his lamentation,
take a shot down field, please stop the dinking and
donkey because everything is five yards and it was like rounders, check, check, check,
And he finally got them frustrated enough to where he
(08:56):
got one on one coverage on the outside and guess what,
little loader, and away Jamar Chase went. He's over one
hundred yards and a touchdown. Now let's talk about what
really is bothering you about this game? I told you
bothering no no over a quarterback and go, oh hey
that's great. Yeah anybody, No, no, don't But that's not
(09:18):
that's got a new development. We just added another name
to the chalkboard list of guys that tick you off,
that are doing it.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
Mike all the scoring. That's a lot of scoring. One
but early on their first possession, Trevor Lawrence connected with
Christian Kirk on a twenty six yard pass.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
And then he tore his going exactly. That was enough
to send Smith to an l in a fantasy league
that he was leading.
Speaker 6 (09:47):
If only they kept Joe Flacco on the practice.
Speaker 4 (09:51):
I was losing, I was winning by a point.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Yeah, and I figure, I'm gonna it's a big It's
a big industry league, right, big dynastaur. Oh yeah, okay,
and if I win, I would have clinched the playoffs spot,
which is exciting. And but I'm like, I'm gonna lose.
He's got Christian Kirk and I don't have anybody. And
Kirk catches that one pass to welcome to win. Okay,
So we won and then that was it and that's
all they That's just it, right, just enough to take
out this week.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
Sorry buddy, but it happens. But yeah, this is not
a new thing. This has been latent and developing and
gest dating for weeks as more and more quarterbacks because
what are we at, like fifty two starting quarterbacks in
the NFL this year, and every guy that gets a
couple of snaps you hate football that much more. I
am not a big fan. I am not I who
(10:36):
hates football more. Right now? You are Florida State.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
Oh no, no, Florida State, Florida, Florida State. Not to soon, yes,
it is not too soon. Well, Georgia too, Georgia and
Florida State.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
If they'd only been smarter about trying to get out
of their commitments to the conference earlier, they would have
been in a conference that matter. See, I don't know
that it would have mattered for Florida. I think even
if Jordan Travis was perfectly healthy and able to dance around,
they still would have been left out. Uh, I don't
know about that.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
If if he was, if he was healthy and playing, well,
we'll get to that in a few minutes, but I'll
just say that if he was healthy and playing, it
would have been a lot harder.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
This was an This was an excuse to do.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
What could what could you look at and you can't
they They couldn't point and see if he couldn't point
to anything and say, well, we just think that they're
not good enough.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
Does that work? No, it doesn't worry.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
But this was the This was the can This was
the can opener to say, oh, we were gonna put it.
Speaker 5 (11:38):
It was.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
Uh.

(12:02):
I see Jets are a tear down, teared down. Blame
the quarter all these other teams. I'm watching them succeed
without franchise quarterback star players. But oh no, no, it's
all your ful. You know where the blame lies.
Speaker 4 (12:15):
How did you celebrate Aaron Rodgers turning another year older
over the weekend by hoping he.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
Didn't get hurt at his party. He didn get hurt
his party, He didn't sit down on the couch and
twist an ankle or something.
Speaker 4 (12:24):
I think I think he's okay, I think he's all right,
all right, just flip that calendar, flip tick exit.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
How about a fresca swalling down The Jason Smith Show
with Mike Carmon Live the tirec dot Com Studios. Now,
as I say this about Jake Brown and he throws
a pick.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
No, no, he didn't throw it. Tyler tried to throw
throw it directly.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
Into the arms of the Josh Backer, who was like, wait,
what are we doing here? Okay, I'm seeing the rep
I'm seeing the replay now. Yep, oh boy, that was
a bad play.
Speaker 4 (12:53):
Yeah, so you play. They flipped it out to Tyler Boyd.
He decides he's gonna throw it all the way back
across the field. But that's gets it halfway where it
gets thrown in trying to brown. That'sary.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
It's like a necessary roughness when when a play didn't
work in Robert Loja was just ripping out of the
playbook and throw it away.
Speaker 4 (13:10):
It's not working. All right, We've got one to day.
We've got Robert Loja into the show.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
Fourteen for Robert Loja. Be sure to catch live editions
of The Jason Smith Show with Mike harmon weekdays at
ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
Everybody holding their breath right now. The Dolphins are the
number one seed in the AFC with the Bengals beating
the Jaguars tonight, but Trevor Lawrence's ankle injury could be
the biggest domino we've seen the last few weeks that
could affect the playoff chase.
Speaker 4 (13:42):
It was in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
Game was tied, Jaguars driving for what looked like was
going to be a go ahead score, and then this happened.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
Third down to Andy Levin. Lawrence goes down, came out
and Lawrence is grabbing at his leg and he is
in serious pain. Fumble was recovered by Anton Harrison and
(14:14):
Lawrence can't get.
Speaker 7 (14:15):
Off the field. Trevor is not happy with love for Washington.
I hope fell to the ground. Ball came out. Trevor
hurt his legs. He's throwing the helmet off. Now yeah,
and this is, oh my goodness, this is.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
What I'm afraid of. He's grabbing his achilles. It was
a non contact he tried to step up in the pocket.
Oh he gets stepped on.
Speaker 7 (14:40):
Got he got stepped on by his own player?
Speaker 4 (14:42):
I think.
Speaker 7 (14:43):
Yeah, Walker Little in his past set steps on Trevor's ankley.
The ball fell out. That's why he fell to the ground.
Now what I'm and it's his right ankle.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
So there was ESPN and the Jaguars radio network, Tony
Biselli on the call there for the jag Well, what
you heard.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
The analysis there as you watch the replay, and you
certainly if you're on social media, you've seen the play
a million times. You see from the behind the play perspective,
Parker Washington, the young receiver, doesn't turn around, so Lawrence
can't get rid of the football, and that's what he's
alluding to what he says he's mad at him because
(15:20):
the ball would have been out. The ball would have
been out, and he might not have had any more
of that traffic. Instead, he's got to pull the ball
back because Washington hasn't turned around in his pass route,
and that allows the time for the pass rush to
get back.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
Into him and to go back. Maybe Washington's not on
the field, if Christian Kirk is not hurt. Ear that's
one pass the domino effect. Absolutely, it was a play
in which you'll probably see it if you have not yet.
Lawrence is backed into by his offensive tackle and Bengals
defensive lineman gets his ankle rolled on not once but twice,
(15:58):
kind of with his own body weight. The second time
he stands up, Bengals actually help him up and try
to keep him up, but he realizes I can't walk.
He goes down on both knees. He pounds the ground
with his fist and throws his helmet off. So that
was a lot of pain for Lawrence to be in.
They came out and checked him out. And then the
biggest mystery, which I still can't understand this. He's on
(16:21):
the field, he gets checked out, and he goes off,
not on a cart, but in between two people who
are helping him walk off the field.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
I mean maybe Austin Powers was stuck on the cart
in the tunnel. I don't know, but I don't understand.
I watched that and I go, how do you not
have the cart out?
Speaker 4 (16:41):
It's such a bad look organization that keeps getting cutted.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
Out in the cart out? Oh, we needed the cart.
Where was the cart it was? It was bringing drinks
around to somebody. Sorry about that we had the cart
was up near the pool area and it was good
to I don't understand, And look it does it seem
like it's good news. Trevor Lawrence was walking off the
field with his arms over two people, gingerly putting weight
on his on his foot. Yeah, but this is your
(17:09):
franchise quarterback. This is this is it. This guy is
as valuable as the franchise. He's the entire city. He's
Douval and you don't tell him, dude, sit, we're bringing
the card out for you.
Speaker 4 (17:20):
No, no, but I can walk. I understand that. But
I'm the doctor or I'm the head coach. You sit. No, no,
but I feel good. No, you sit, This is not
your decision. You sit, and here comes the cart. We
get the cart to come out. You tell the doctor.
Doctor looks at him whatever. I don't understand.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
And and then it's just two people that are bringing
There's no crowd of teammates around him. There's no anything
I mean, And it's not like most other stadiums. The
walk to the Jaguars locker room is immense.
Speaker 4 (17:48):
We watched him as a workout man.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
It was like fifteen they I think they played like
they were in overtime. By the time Lawrence actually got
to the locker room, he was insane. He walks all
the way across the field, past the bench into the tunnel,
and the tunnel walk is forever, but we but we.
Speaker 4 (18:06):
Get the full tunnel walk with someone walking backwards and
he's coming up the ram. The shot from the crowd,
which was one of the first videos of him being
helped to the sideline it's agony watching unsteady him, like
you can almost hear what he's muttering under his breath
(18:27):
with each step, and it's just it's just awful and
it's such a bad look for the organization. Now again
he probably told him no, no, no, we're going off this time.
But but it just becomes another line that people can
use against the Jacksonville organization, right, trying to shed the
(18:50):
the history of just being well, you're the team that
you know, gave out home games and likes to go
to London, right shot, God likes to And it looks
a small time.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
It looks small time for the Jaguars to not have
more people out there and a better way to take
care of your quarterback. And you know what got me was,
you know, we've seen the camera angles before when the
cameraman is in the locker room, and usually it's you know,
we're like fifteen or twenty feet in because you see
the shot of the player walking in through the tunnel,
(19:22):
but you can only see it for about fifteen or
twenty feet. Then you have the one guy who's fifteen
or twenty feet in and the player walks right by
him and then goes right into the locker room. No,
this camera angle, this guy he was like fifty feet
pass Trevor Lawrence. Trevor Lawrence is still very small in
the camera walk in door. It's awful, Like how far
(19:44):
away is this camera guy from him?
Speaker 4 (19:46):
Come on, well, look you're trying to catch the footage
but not be in the way or have someone potentially
remove you from said situation. So you've got all of
that flowing. But yeah, it's just a pain thing for
an organization. As you said, Mickey Mouse, organization appropriate down
there in Florida. But you know, Jacksonville's all always seen
(20:08):
and been kind of ridiculed as all right, you're good
for Thursday night football and you're good as an outpost there,
and that's all finding good as one of the Florida teams.
Maybe you'll eventually be the team that goes and you know,
you plant your flag in Europe full time, all of
these things, and here where you are leading the division,
potentially fighting for the number one overall seed, and then
(20:32):
your quarterback, your franchise goes down, and this is what
your organization, this becomes the the analysis of the kind
of operation you're running here. There's no cart I mean
where was it. There's no car there was. It wasn't
even on the sideline for him to say, no, that's
what ever got there? It's like, what are we doing.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
It's like in the movie when you can't find it
and you find out the guy is like like trying
to hit on somebody go hey, so yes, I drive
the cart, and I go, oh, oh well, let.
Speaker 4 (20:59):
Me get out there, let me get it.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
It's like, where are you men, Trevor Lawrence is on
the field.
Speaker 4 (21:02):
No get it to start? No, no, But like that
that took over, like my mentions of this game in
my timeline, whether it was X TikTok, Instagram, all of
it as you're scrolling, you know, because we're always looking
for stories and analysis and certainly want an immediate reaction
to this. Like it was as much about the cart
as it was the injury. Like people just didn't sensed
(21:26):
just for the optics of all, right, there goes Trevor Lawrence.
He's injured. Where's the cart, where's the medical professionals coming
to offer assistance. Nope, there's two guys propping him up
as he makes the long walk and it gets longer
every time you look at it. Cart gate. Right. Every
time you watch the video, though, it seems like he's
walking an extra forty yards.
Speaker 6 (21:47):
Mike, I've been to that stadium many times. It's the
longest walk to the locker room ever.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
Yeah, but I mean the way it's constructed, right, And
we had that because if you go to any of
the other facilities, you know, not NFL, but go to
I mean, look that jump that they have that they're
trying to get rid of that the Rays play, and
I mean same thing. You got corridors for miles that
you've got to get to to get to your seats
(22:13):
and anywhere of import. And so no surprise here, but
just a terrible optic. I mean, all the best for
Trevor Lawrence, you know, one of those guys that you
know we've rooted for, kind of watching him come into
his own and watching what this Jaguars team was becoming.
And now you know, the future uncertain with five games
left to play, suddenly opening the door for the upstart
(22:38):
Houston Texans. And I got to imagine immediately in the
aftermath of the injury, some money started coming in, even
more so on the CJ. Stroud MVP train. Yeah, we
feel pretty good about CJ. Well, no, because you open
the door, like because we've talked about it a lot, right,
you got to get to the playoffs. You gotta win
the division, not just be a wildcard, but if you
(22:58):
go win the division. How they got five games to
go do that? And you know what, he can start
with a big performance against your Jets this week.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
Uh, well, we'll have time to get to that, will
we will. We will have time to get to that,
we will.
Speaker 4 (23:11):
I mean it's only Monday. We got to find whole
week to build that out. I can't wait. But in
the immediate aftermath of this, I mean you start thinking
of the ramifications, no disrespect to the greatness that is CJ. Bethorn,
who acquitted himself nicely. Yeah, it was fine. It was great.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
Great to see another guy who hasn't thrown a football
and is like, you know, Damon Wayans at any given
Sunday throwing up on the sideline eating cheetos.
Speaker 4 (23:33):
Oh, go in the game and play well. Jets can't
find a guy to do that. But everybody else.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
Yeah, I'm not sorry, Jamie Fox, Jamie Fox, Damon Wayiams
was last boy scout.
Speaker 4 (23:43):
Okay back, I.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
Conflated my late eighties quarterbacks, nineties quarterbacks in NFL.
Speaker 4 (23:49):
I really thought you were dipping into Celtic pride. No, no, no, no.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
Damon Walliams is Last Boy Scout and Jamie Fox any
given sex.
Speaker 4 (23:55):
Yeah, yeah, I don't think.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
Damon Walliams threw up in Last Boy Scout. He was
also a detective. That was a movie where a guy
shot somebody right he wanted to get touchdown. You know
that was Billy Blanks. Actually, Billy Blanks is a running back.
Speaker 4 (24:10):
Billy Cole. Billy Billy Cole is having a game of
his life out there.
Speaker 1 (24:14):
But really, it this It baffles me at times when
I see something like this and I go, this is
the NFL, man, this is the NFL, and this is
Can you imagine Patrick Mahomes, Okay Mahomes goes down at
home and a couple of guys come out, some dude
(24:35):
did you don't even know who it is?
Speaker 4 (24:36):
Just some guy.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
You could be the Eagles chief of security out helping
him off the field.
Speaker 4 (24:40):
Just two guys.
Speaker 1 (24:41):
And no, no, you're gonna walk off the field and
take that really long walk Patrick, take that look No no, no,
I mean it's dude. You sit and we come, We
bring a card for you. We bring a card for.
Speaker 4 (24:51):
You and I and I.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
And for the philosophy of hey, he didn't want one,
he probably overruled them. Yeah, I got the power of
Trevor Lawrence. In that situation, you don't want to do
anything to upset somebody you got hurt.
Speaker 4 (25:04):
But you're a doctor, you're.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
The head coach. It's no dude, this is not your decision.
You wait here and you get on a cart. This
is what happens.
Speaker 4 (25:10):
Yeah, medical professionals have to take over here. You wait.
You not about adrenaline and not about hubrisk. It's not
about optics positive of saying, hey I'm walking, ikea walk.
I'm trying to convince folks I'm okay, because in that moment,
you don't have to be the Only thing that matters
is the results of an MRI tomorrow. Right. How you
get off the field and down the tunnel and back
(25:31):
into the locker room. Nobody gives a damn except to
now mock your squad for not taking care of business.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven

Speaker 1 (25:46):

the big news in the NFL. Longtime NFL insider with

Baltimore at Jason lock and For. He is on Twitter
at Jason lock and For. He'll be reporting live from
the Boca Ratone Bowl, where Syracuse will be playing in
a couple of weeks for the next six weeks atop
(26:07):
a big flagpole tower.
Speaker 4 (26:09):
Sweet, what's happening in Jayla?
Speaker 5 (26:10):
Hey, what's going on? Gentlemen?
Speaker 4 (26:12):
I'm just sitting here saying.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
To myself, boy, you know how much it sucks that
the you know, for Aaron Rodgers to get hurt for
the Jets. But you know what, the Browns and the
Bengals and the Vikings and the Colts all lost their
franchise quarterbacks and they seem to be in the playoff.
Hunt Browning looks like he's the reincarnation of Drew Bludsoe.
Speaker 4 (26:27):
Tonight they find a way to win games. But no, no, no,
Jets can't do it.
Speaker 5 (26:32):
Well yeah, I mean, look, they are not alone in
the unfortunate circumstances of the quarterback position for them now.
And obviously, you know four snaps in and the new
team and all the hoopla and all that. I get it.
It is. It is different on some levels, for sure,
(26:53):
But it doesn't have to be a death sense. I mean,
it shouldn't be like, what is it like six or
seven straight games with thirteen points or less? I mean like,
it doesn't have to be that dire. It isn't that dire.
And in other places, especially when you have the backing
from a defense like they have received, it's an abject
(27:19):
failure offensively, right, I mean, it just it's it's it's
pretty horrific.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
No, and then I and then I get today Zach Wilson,
the Jets might want to go back to him, but
he might not want to play. No, then Robert Solaz says, no,
he really does want to play. I'm going, why can't
the Jets just fade into obscurity for the rest of
this No, No, we're going to be a front page
tire fire the.
Speaker 4 (27:39):
Rest of the way.
Speaker 5 (27:41):
Well, but I mean fade into obscurity like no, there's
always but something there that couldn't have a caseous press
conference was a thing like I mean, I don't know
about fading in obscurity of Gotham. Are you running the
ship and come on like obscurity? Yeah? You you should
aspire to obscurity. I don't think it's going to happen.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
That should be put on a T shirt. Aspire to obscurity.
That's a two gut there. We'll work on the designs. Yeah,
all right, Jason forty nine ers do more damage. Brock
Purty now the betting favorite for MVP, and they unleashed
Deebo Samuel another part of that offense. Yeah, yes, how
(28:27):
big is that gap between them and these other squads?
Speaker 5 (28:30):
Well, look, when Williams plays, they're at a certain level
and obviously that defense post tread deadline and getting Chase
young and coming off their buy and getting healthier and
getting Bosa healthier. Yeah. San Francisco at full optimum availability
(28:51):
and efficiency is something else. Now, you know what does
the future hold? And you know, Trent Williams a guy
who's in the past when he's gotten hurt. It's it's
tended to you know, manifest itself and remanifest. I I
just I mean they go as egos. I mean, if
party's the MVP, then it's really Trent wis is pretty
(29:12):
the top.
Speaker 1 (29:12):
Of your ballot right now, if I say you're your
your MVP ballot, I mean, I know it's got to
be Zach Wilson first, but after this, yeah, it's pretty
the top.
Speaker 5 (29:20):
If I had to vote for it right now. Geez uh,
Look when.
Speaker 4 (29:29):
We talked about it last week, I have.
Speaker 5 (29:30):
A hard time. Got to have a hard time anointing
somebody right now because I got.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
I got Dak and c J Stroud at the top
of my list right now for different for different. You know,
Dak he's been on a heater the last five weeks
and has been incredible. And CJ Stroud to do what
he's doing and have the Texans who are starting over.
Speaker 5 (29:47):
In team dude for me to call back the MVP
of the freaking league, Like he's got to beat a
good team, like, you know, like them surviving Seattle, and
I understand he did it his part, but Seattle's pretty
broken defensively right now. Like he's got to beat a
good team for me and and ideally beat a good
(30:08):
team on the road because those guys are some serious homers,
so I can't go there. And Stroud, I mean, I
like what's going on there? For sure? See the MVP
of the league. I don't know. I mean he's I
guess he's certainly in the conversation. I'm glad that they're
(30:29):
not voting on it right now because I I mean,
I think it's the same names we've been talking about.
I don't think there's been a whole lot of separation.
And I think this is unwritten for obvious reasons. I mean,
look at the stretch that's in front of Herz. Look
at the stretch that's in front of a guy like
Lamar Jackson. I mean, I mean this might be totally crazy,
(30:52):
but like what if the Buffalo Bills come off to
buy and run the table or do anything close to
run the table? Like I understand Josh Allen, that's terrible
interceptions games early in the year. He also is doing
some things on a regular basis. You know, what's asked
of him goes beyond a lot of other guys. Like
I'll never totally you know, write Mahomes off. I mean,
it doesn't seem to be trending in a particularly good
(31:13):
direction obviously, and I get it it's not going to
be a vintage mahomes year. But I mean, I guess
dack to right. If you're going to say there ends
up being a statistical outlier. Maybe it's Dak, But like,
if they're the fourth best team, if they're the fourth
seed and a year of extreme parody in a conference
that's worse than the other one, he's gonna be the MVP.
(31:37):
I mean maybe, but like what would they like, I
don't know, they'd probably be like people figured they'd probably
be the four seed, right, I mean, I don't know.
I guess because the running game stalled a little bit.
I mean, I like what he's doing, But like, if
you're with Stroud, what if Jordan Love runs the table.
Speaker 4 (31:55):
I was just going to ask about him.
Speaker 5 (31:58):
In the first six weeks it was a learned and
curved but he took them from the depth of despair
to the playoffs. I mean, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (32:05):
See, he already wrote the speech for you, he did.
That's how you start the column there, Jason, the depths
of just the last month. I mean, Jordan Loves certainly
a different quarterback. We'll see what the analysis is of
Watson's injury after he went down with that string. But
I mean they haven't gotten exactly great efficiency out of
(32:28):
the run game. It's been on his arm yeah.
Speaker 5 (32:31):
No, I mean, look, I don't think it's going to
be any of these younger guys. I think it's going
to be in some ways, we'll probably come down to
the one seed in the you know who, who who
ends up being the one seed in the NFC, Who
ends up being the one seed in the AFC. If
their quarterbacks stay healthy, they're going to be two of
the top three vote getters in all honest, you know,
in all likelihood, and and maybe somebody from the field
(32:55):
tabs them. But if if you look at how close
this thing is bunched up, you know, I don't think it's
like if if I was sizing this up from a
gaming perspective, it's like, Okay, well, who do you think?
But you're playing that market. You're essentially playing who's going
to be the one seed or in the case of Dallas,
maybe they're not the ones siare. Maybe they could be,
but it's gonna be hard with the one lost to
Philly already. But could they close the gap on Philly?
(33:18):
I mean, could they at least could they win that division?
But I think it's gonna be you know, probably one
verse one.
Speaker 1 (33:27):
Hey, Jay, Obviously we talk about the Jets not acquiring
a quarterback of the deadline. That's gotten a lot of
attention no matter what, and I get that, but boy,
I'll tell you from something that affects the entirety of
the season and who can get to the Super Bowl.
I watched the Chiefs and I go, this is an
offense that absolutely needed to go get a wide receiver.
(33:48):
And you can see how much they are struggling trying
to make it happen. Web look and Rushie Rice is
a nice player, but you can just tell this is
not the same offense. They absolutely had to go out
and get somebody and they didn't, and that could in
the Super Bowl.
Speaker 5 (34:01):
No, that absolutely. I wrote about it to Washington Post.
Talk to some people who watched their you know, the
film of their first game against the Lines, and we're like,
and he read, there's no way he could be satisfied
with this. And then you know, they make their little
move for Hardman or whatever, and there are people telling
me there's no way they can be satisfied with this.
And I know that they had conversations with teams about
(34:23):
receivers and obviously nothing you know, ultimately happened, and nothing,
you know, I guess prices were too high or whatever.
But yeah, I mean there's not much dependable there, and
you know, you got guys sort of still not aligned correctly,
and I mean everybody's sort of youth and inexperience or
(34:45):
or or lack of comfort with their role is is
ever present. Valve Scanling like he'll never make a big
play like throwing the ball to him, Like the best
case scenario is it hits the ground, you know, like
it's that's like the best you could probably we hope for.
It's just it's not a smooth operation and it's hard
(35:05):
to think that it's going to hit that next level. Now.
I have a hard time thinking it will. But the
defense is really good. The run game, you know, has
picked up, and I think Andy Reid's going to continue
to lean more heavily into that and I think his
tackles are more comfortable doing some of that stuff. They've
just got to unlock a few more plays in the
red zone. They've got to, man if they could come
(35:27):
up with me, And maybe it's it's something as dumb
as McKinnon coming back, you know, because down the stretch
last year he was a touchdown machine for them, Like
they just need some other safety valve or outlet in
the red zone. Maybe it's the second tight end who
caught one last night. Something else has to break free there.
Speaker 4 (35:45):
Jason, I'm looking ahead to what to me is one
of the most intriguing matchups this next week, and it's
the Ravens coming off of buy host the La Rams
and Matthew Stafford all of a sudden, very interesting, And
Kyron Williams is.
Speaker 5 (36:01):
Yeah, touchdown machine, Yeah, yeah, it's it's It's definitely going
to be an interesting game. You know, the the Rams
are tenth in the league and offensive touchdowns allowed, which
I think, you know, not many of us were thinking
that's where we'd be talking about them as a top
ten team in that metric coming into the year, but
(36:23):
that's where they are. They're obviously on this three game streak,
they've what allowed twenty or less than four in a row.
I know they haven't exactly faced a murderer's row as
they will, but for them to get back to five
hundred is pretty impressive. And I really think the buy
came at the perfect time for Matthew Stafford and he's
been much more effective and efficient since the buy. I
(36:46):
mean obviously going to Baltimore is a different sort of ask,
and you know, we'll see what that brings out in them.
But the third old secret bout Baltimore's defense, as great
as it is, is you can run on them. You
can run on them with heavy personnel. You can run
on them by spreading them out, you know, and getting
a light box and running out of eleven personnel. And
(37:07):
I think Williams is going to be force fed in
this game, and I think, you know McVeigh, we'll keep
it as close as he can for as long as
he can. Knowing that, Look, the Ravens lead the league
in sacks, and there's not any individual there who is
a household name, but justin Mattabik is having a dominant season,
Clowney's having arguably the best season of his career, Kyle
(37:27):
van Noy's had a rebirth, and they know how to
scheme guys up to get sacks. They get a ton
of sacks from slot blitzes. And Matthew Stafford's been horrible
under pressure, you know, the later he gets in his career.
So yeah, I think that game could go under I
think both teams are going to run around the football
quite a bit. And yeah, I look, I know that
(37:49):
spreads around seven. It wouldn't shock me if this was
more like a field goal game than a touchdown game.
I think McVeigh will understand the assignment here and try
to attack that defense where it's most vulnerable. Not let
you know, Stafford get hit early in this game a
turnover and let the Ravens play with a double digit lead.
Speaker 1 (38:11):
He's on Twitter at Jason lock and for that is
at Jason lock and for check him out as well,
Odyssey Washington Post Jay as always, buddy, appreciate him.
Speaker 5 (38:19):
Man.
Speaker 4 (38:19):
We'll talk to you next week.
Speaker 5 (38:20):
Have always my pleasure, gentlemen.
Speaker 1 (38:21):
Thank you Ze, great stuff there. Hey, you know we
talked about Dak. Dak needs to beat a good team
next three weeks.
