(00:49):
and buy it. About twenty minutes all the big news
in college football, and before we get to picking a
couple of NFL games, let me just say this. You
know who is the most desperate person in college football?
Mic and it oozes out of his pors. Okay Ooze
is out of his pors Nick Saban?
Speaker 3 (01:11):
How desperate? How desperate is Nick Saban? For attention?
Speaker 1 (01:16):
And relevancy surrounding Alabama's program. Okay, he's watched Dion Sanders
hey for the for the last few years. The last decade,
it's been Nick Saban and Alabama. Nick Saban and Alabama.
What happened? Saban's been able to be crusty with the media,
say whatever he wants, you know, be kind of a
college football version of Bill Belichick, and everybody had to
(01:37):
bite the bullet because he had the squads every year
he was in the College Football Playoff and the national
championships he wanted. May have peaked in twenty twenty with
what looked like it was his best team ever, even
though it was the pandemic season. But he's he's carried
the mail for college football for a long time, and
he's been the biggest star. And now what's happened in
the last couple of years, Well, Jim Harbaugh started to
(01:57):
get a ton of attention because Michigan is winning. In
his it's the star power of him as a head coach.
He makes a lot of headlines. And now here's Deon
Sanders taking everything else away. Now there's no room for
anything else in college football because of the Colorado freight
train that continues to go.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
Yeah and because people are sheep, yes right, yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
So what have we seen now from Nick Saban the
last few weeks? A much more engaging Nick Saban from
the blind side now, who has made bold decisions with
his roster, crazy decisions with his roster, who is now
much more apt to weigh in on big topics. Right,
he's weighing in on Deon Sanders, talking what great coach
(02:36):
he thinks Deon Sanders is. He changed quarterbacks now he's
played three quarterbacks so far. Oh, because of a promise
that he made. Hey, I told the other two guys
they would get playing time this year. So wait, so
you bench Milrow. Yeah, they lost a game, but for
two guys that you only because you promised them they'd play,
you bench them for a game. And then now you're
(02:57):
going back to Milroe again. I feel like he's he's
one of those coaches who now is like, huh, they're
not talking about us anymore. I need to start doing
some stuff and getting out there. I need to start
doing doing and talking about some stuff and doing some
crazy things. Because this is not Bill, this is not
Bill Belichick, this is not Nick Saban To say yeah,
I'm gonna have a knee jerk reaction for our court.
(03:17):
I'm gonna take one guy out after he has a
bad game, even though he did move the team pretty
well and move them pretty well in the first game.
I'm gonna make this change. I'm gonna play two, not
one other guy, but two other guys because I made
a promise they would play really. Nick Saban's that guy.
I promised them they'd play really. Nick Saban in twenty seventeen,
twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen was Hey, I promise these guys
they play, so I get him in the lineup. That's
(03:38):
not Nick Saban. Nick Saban is seeing college football moving
on without him, and he's seeing every conversation about Saban
instead of being boy Ken Alabama get to the National Championship?
Speaker 3 (03:48):
What kind of team? It's?
Speaker 1 (03:49):
How long will Nick Saban go till he retires? Will
Nick Saban retire after this year? We retire after next
year one? Will Nick Saban call it quits? Will Nick
Saban go back to the NFL? Will x Saban take
a sabbatical, we retire from Alabama? That's all Saban is
seeing because I don't think there's any question that the
that or any coincidence that the only attention he's getting
now is when's he gonna retire. We're not talking about him,
(04:11):
So now you get all these Saban headlines and and
craziness going on with his with with his team. I
don't think that's any coincidence.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
Yeah, we talk about the lack of explosiveness. We're talking
about the three card money at the quarterback position. And
I would counter only to say this in terms of
how you're you're talking about maybe desperation and following in
the path of what some see in the the BELICHICKI
And part of things is is that you're also knowing
(04:39):
that the rules of engagement have changed of trying to
keep guys contented, uh and ready to next man up,
of course as always, but also not to be with
one eye on the transfer portal. So if you're in
a game and you think, hey, we can get guys
a little bit of playing time and get them feeling
good about their space here, maybe ad buys you time
(05:03):
that you're not looking at them exiting the system, exiting
the program. I'm just reaching a little bit here trying
to figure out exactly where you know coach's sensibilities are
because we saw so much of the older Guard the
last couple of years. Jason just walk away all together
because of the rules of engagement we see. We've seen
so many others complain about it openly. You got Harbaugh
(05:26):
on one side, He's all for the kids getting whatever the
kids can get, very at least outwardly. You know, I
always wonder what goes on behind the scenes with some stuff.
But you know, on Dabo Sweeney, yeah, if they start
gett paid, I'm gonna quit still collecting a check every
Saturday and showing up on the sideline. So somewhere in
between there, I think you've got Nick Saban trying to recognize,
(05:47):
all right, all the good will I got when I
was doing TV shows and movies, and I get a
little bit of love from the commercials. But it's a
different environment. And certainly Dion Sanders, look, he's a unicorn.
We've talked about this, right, lot of column inches, a
lot of stuff dedicated to where can you find your
own and maybe on a on a local, regional and
(06:10):
conference network you might be able to find your version
of that locally. So many teams have tried, right, Scott
Frost wasn't that the idea at Nebraska he was gonna
be that guy, wouldn't he that he couldn't coach his
way out of a paper bag, So that that didn't
get to last very long. So you know, be careful
what you wish for. But for Nick Saban and company
(06:30):
as they get into this stretch, what are they a
touchdown favorite against Mississippi tomorrow? Is you know you're you're
trying to find the identity of this squad and this
shakes it up a bit. And maybe he was just
being a smartass too to a degree. Yeah, I made
the promise to these guys.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
What do you want me to set attention?
Speaker 4 (06:48):
What do you want me to say? You want me
to give you a bunch of our you know, stuff
that we have in the playbook too while I'm at it.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
I mean, really, I mean, do you think about Nick Saban?
Actually I promised the guys they would play. I made
a promised to two guys that they would get to
play quarterback this year. Really that strikes you as genuine?
Speaker 4 (07:04):
I mean, come on, man, Well but he kept the
promise to him, and now maybe that gets you some
good will and the recruiting wars It's all about how
recruiting wars going forward. Smith, you know.

on Nick Saban and Colorado with Pete Futech coming up
(07:34):
in a few minutes. But time to start taking a
look at the games in the NFL this weekend. And
let's take a look at two of the biggest ones.
And this game is big because obviously it involves the
defending Super Bowl champions and a team that owned the
news cycle this week for many reasons.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
It started with Justin Field saying.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
I don't want to be coached, and it ended with
people stealing tractors from Soldier Field earlier today the Bears
and the Chiefs. I got good news for you, Mike,
and I got badness for you as I got badness.
The good news is this is gonna be justin Field's
best game. Chicago's got no choice but to let him
go and let him do his thing. After this week,
(08:12):
they can't sit here and sit back, Okay, sit back
in the pocket. They're gonna let him go. He's gonna
do his thing. It will be very freeing for him.
He will put points on the board. However, Chiefs are
gonna score more. The Chiefs look like they they look
like they needed a week to get Travis Kelce back involved.
This should be one of those get well games and
they should have no problem putting a ton of points
(08:34):
on the board against this Bears defense, which, wow, are
you kidding me? The first couple of weeks, if you
get carved up by Baker Mayfield, you're gonna get carved
up by Patrick Mahomes. So it'll be a big week
for Fields and he'll get, you know, maybe close to
one hundred yards rushing. He'll throw a couple of touchdowns,
run for a touchdown. But this is gonna be the
Chiefs thirty eight to twenty four.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
Look at that you are taking the over over under
sitting at forty eight. I think I can agree with
you there that we're looking for them to sail well
past this. For Fields, I have to expect it's the
all right, go back to what worked last year and
remember that doesn't translate to wins and losses, but at
least allowed him to function at a higher rate. Now
(09:15):
trying to figure out what's real in terms of the
relationship and how you make the best of the acquisition
of DJ Moore, that's a whole other thing, right, because
you got videotape of Hey, they're not using you, right man.
It's like, yeah, I no, tell me about it. Okay, great,
that's fantastic because you needed to add that to the
mix along the way. They need to find some semblance
(09:38):
of a running game, and that comes back Johnson, I
think is the best of what they've got. But that's
more Fields just getting to the edge, let him make
plays with his leg, pick up the first down, and
then he's been efficient in the red zone problems. They
haven't gotten there very often. And he's been efficient in
throwing the ball down field. They're not calling for many
downfield routes, and we've seen him hold on to the
(10:02):
ball on a number of occasions. And so when I
look at this one, Kansas City generally doesn't cover those
large point spreads double digit plus. This has always been
one of the things to the detriment of the Patrick
Mahomes resume. But coming up here, I think you do
see fields force a thrower two. I do think his
(10:22):
search to get out of the way. Yeah, asking for
a friend. When's the last time the Bear scored twenty
four points? I don't know. They give up twenty five
a game for the last I don't know year plus.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
I know that part.
Speaker 4 (10:34):
That's a good question. I don't know. It's been a while.
It's been a minute.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
This will be a very freeing week.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
It'll be a good week for them to Hey, let's
just let Field he wants to do it. Let him
do his thing, and it'll be the worst thing for
the Bears because he'll actually, Boy, this is the best
game he's had all season.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
Eber Flus, you're fired. But he goes back to scoring
twenty four when they can't score. Now, they'll score against
the Chiefs defense. They'll score well.
Speaker 4 (10:59):
The last time they scored thirty in a game was
against the Lions on November thirteenth.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
That's to day Felix Hunger was forced to remove himself
from his place of residence.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
There you go, nically done, sweetness that day he's still running.
Maybe he's still running.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
Come on, man, that's that's Gail Sayers. That's Gail Sayers
scored a couple of times.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna go with the thirty four
to twenty couple of long field goals, but they do
cover the twelve and a half. Is where it is
sitting there right now. It's gonna be ugly, right, but
you go back to some of the playground style. Just look,
let the man make plays, don't try to contain it,
(11:43):
don't over coach it. Can't stand in the pocket. By
the way. The other story that we've mentioned a bunch
I don't think many others have is the left tackle
went to IR for the season, by the way, so
good luck Chris Jones should feast.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Yeah, especially if they don't.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
If they don't put a guy out there and there's
running four offensive linemen, it'll be a very difficult day.
Speaker 4 (12:03):
He wins above replacement.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
So there you go. So there's our first pick. We
got more picks coming up later on this hour. We
have our upset specials for this weekend in the NFL

Speaker 1 (13:12):
We have a big weekend in college football coming up.
We got top twenty five games. We have Colorado and Oregon,
which is high noon of college football.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
This week. Could I say it's high noon more in sports?
Speaker 1 (13:23):
Nobody better to break it all down with then College

Speaker 3 (13:44):
What's happening, buddy? How are you?
Speaker 5 (13:46):
What's going on? How are you guys tonight?
Speaker 3 (13:49):
Buddy? We're like you, We're just counting down. We're counting
down to Colorado Oregon.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Man, We're just counting down to this game because the
entire world is gonna watch it tomorrow night.
Speaker 5 (13:58):
And not just that, but you know, if you were
to happen to buy some chance, and why would you
forget that it's happening. Just give it four seconds and
you're going to get an alert on your phone that
Deon just made a sandwich or something. You know, Like, no,
not sure, I mean seriously, like every little move because
I guess this is cash cow for everyone right now
(14:20):
because everyone's into this, everyone's into Colorado, and I, as
a pure fan, I don't think it's happening, but just
to see the national and worldwide meltdown. If next week
four and oh Colorado is hosting USC and Caleb Williams
and that bunch, that would be a thing. But let's see,
(14:41):
I am not a believer. Coach fran can help me.
I do not believe this week.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
You know. Yeah, here's here's what I believe.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
A lot of time you because I want to get
your thought on this, because here's what I believe.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
I believe they'll cover all right. I'm twenty one.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
Is a lot of points in this game, especially seeing
Colorado's offense, but mainly it's because I know what Dion's
been doing all week. Do you see nobody's believers We're
three touchdown underdogs of this team. Nobody believes we can win.
Do you see people saying that the balloon's gonna burst.
I went to ESPN today and I saw on ESPN
dot com it's gonna end for us. He's been able
(15:16):
to He's gonna have another week of being able to
take nobody believes in us.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
Circle the wagons.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
Let's go out and let's and let's lay waste to everybody,
which is exactly what he's wanted to do and he
gets to do it again this week.
Speaker 5 (15:27):
I usually hate that kind of stuff because look, that's
all cute and all, but come out and block and
tackle and you know, just execute better and know what
you're doing. That that works better. But in this case, yeah, look,
I mean obviously they play at a different level when
they feel agreed. And for all the manufactured as a delays,
(15:48):
say bull junk that came with the stuff with the
sunglasses and the hat, they knew they were supposed to
beat Colorado State, that Colorado State's bad at football, and
it just didn't seem like they had the same edge.
We have game days in town, the rocks there, it's
a show. Now they're a party this time around. You're right,
(16:09):
they can do the no one believes in us because
everyone's got the exact same thought, like this is fun
and they might cover the offense will be cute enough,
but nah, it's not gonna happen. But the more interesting
one is the seventy point total there because it's hard
to get there, and that's gonna be a I always
advise everyone, if you're giving seventy, go under it because
(16:32):
it's really hard. But in this case, we're all hoping
it gets the seventy.
Speaker 4 (16:37):
Yeah. I mean all that requires us is, you know,
we start playing in the thirties. Yeah, I think we
can get there. But I got to ask you this question,
just in the hypothetical world that Colorado does pull off
the stunner, where do the sycophans line up? Because I
mean at USC on the other side next week, man.
Speaker 5 (16:54):
Oh wow, I mean it is. You can't say anything
bad about this program. It is. It is impressive, just
how much sucking up there has been to Dione Sanders
and this whole thing. Everyone realizes what this is. It's
a different storyline. It goes against everything college football usually
(17:16):
is about. And it's fun. But what's gonna be interesting
is what happens if this goes out. What happens if
it's fifty eight to ten the other way? What happens
when you know, look, this defense is bad. It's all
of a sudden. Colorado State, who got lit up by
Washington State, that team looked like it could have gone
(17:37):
out and hung thirty five on the San Francisco forty
nine ers last week. Oregon is just going to come
out and just do what it does. It's just a
question whether or not that defense can keep a shoot
or in company under. You know, they're gonna have to.
They're gona have to get off that bus with at
least forty five to have a shot in this. So
it's it's gonna have to be an offensive show for
(17:59):
this thing to work.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
You know, we talked about it earlier this week, Pete.
I kind of see Colorado. They're very similar to Ronda
Rowsey when she first came out. She was she she
hit it so big, so fast, and became the topic
of conversation across the world, and she had to keep
winning because once she lost, it was.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
Okay, the balloon burst and she's not with it.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
And look at Ronda Rowsey's career, like she moved on
and she was never the same in UFC. I kind
of feel that to deal with Colorado, they're gonna be
like this until they lose, And especially because it's college football,
once you lose a game, we lose a lot of
interest because hey, you're you're one step away.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
From not being a playoff team.
Speaker 1 (18:35):
So I kind of feel like Colorado they have to
keep winning because the minute they lose, that's when the
bubble burst. It's Okay, and now we're kind of back
to the college football season already in progress.
Speaker 5 (18:44):
Oh well, yeah, it'll just it'll calm down a little bit.
There's gonna be a moment a few weeks from now
when we're like, hey, remember when we had all that
Colorado stuff. So that'll be uh, that'll be one side
of this whole thing. But still it's they lose and
their enter case about it. They'll still be a factor
because the pack Cup every single week, it's still going
to be a show. They're still going to put on
(19:06):
a big numbers. Ian's still going to be entertaining. It's
still gonna be a blast. So I do think it's
just will settle down a little bit, the fever will break,
but it's still going to be a fun ride for
a little while.
Speaker 4 (19:18):
Get in as low as fifty bucks plus fees if
you want to go to that one. By way of contrast,
you on a head to South Bend, your ticket's costing
you at least six hundred and eighty three dollars plus
all requisite fees. As Ohio State comes in as a
three or three and a half point favorite against Sam Sam,
Sam Hartman and Notre Dame.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
My Heisman trump.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
You got Sam Hartman, my pick, Sam Hartman, my preseason pick.
Speaker 5 (19:42):
Sam Hartman, you can win it here, you know, like Shaudure.
If Shador goes off and they beat Oregon, and if
Shador goes off and they beat USC, he probably here's
the probably Shoudoor Sanders. Even if he's awesome, there is
such this I hate to use this kind of term,
but silent backlash out there that that's just the whole
(20:06):
thing rubs certain people the wrong way. So I'm not
gonna say the Heisman's his. But outside of that, yeah,
Sam Hartman goes off and rips up Ohio State with
everyone watching. He's gonna have one more game and that's
against catob and USC, and that becomes the Heisman stealer
for him because those are the two big ones. Those
(20:28):
are the games everyone's gonna watch, and that's the big
chance for him. It's just a question of whether or
not Ohio State's defense can get a little bit of
pressure on him. I'm every time this year I've thought that,
oh well, talent's gonna win out, Like you know, LSU
is gonna be Florida State, of course, you know South Carolina,
you know North Carolin's have a defense. South Caroline's gonna
(20:48):
roll for them. Nope, you know Clemson Duke even So
I'm not gonna just say Ohio State is just gonna
win because they're Ohio State. But they should be better
on all on both sides of the ball. They've got
just that much more talent offensively. The defense is all right,
is actually all right, it's great so far. It hasn't
(21:08):
faced anybody like this yet, though, I think Ohio State
goes in there and makes a little bit of a statement.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
Pete Futec College football Insider, our guest here the Jason
Smith Show with Mike Harman, live from the Tirack dot
Com studios.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
All right, so Nick.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
Saban, I guess he's been a little bit upset that
no one's paying attention to him.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
So I'm changing quarterbacks. I'm talking a lot to the media.
They have a tough one tomorrow against Ole Miss.
Speaker 1 (21:32):
Does does Alabama get eliminated from playoff contention tomorrow or
do they stay alive another week and beat the fifteenth
rankle Miss?
Speaker 5 (21:40):
Oh? Wow, you want to talk about the flips the
opposite side of Colorado. If they lose it, If Alvin
loses this already. I've been on shows across this great
country of ours. Well, is Nick Saban's legacy going to
be like what are you talking about?
Speaker 3 (21:55):
Everyone?
Speaker 5 (21:56):
Like? What's happening is is now Alabama's starting to realize
what life is like for everyone else where in the
SEC under Alabama's authoritarian rule. They if you're tennan two,
you might as well be six and six. It just
doesn't matter. It's because you can be great and it
(22:17):
makes no difference if Alabama's being Alabama. And now Alabama's
figure out what life is like when they're really awesome.
It's ten and two, which will change next year when
they have the expan Coto Football Playoff, But for now,
I think that that's the game that I don't want
anything to do with. Spread wise, I think Bama wins
just because, but I think they figure out that, You
(22:39):
know what, let's not make this as complicated. We don't
quit trying to make Jalen Milroe into Bryce Young and
Mac Jones already. Just realize that he's not quite there
as a passer yet, if you can get there at all,
because that's an elite level of passing skill. But he's
a really talented quarterback and playmaker who can get creative.
He can do a whole lot of things for you
(23:00):
if you use him, and that's the right way, and
not assume that he's just gonna be able to wing
it around like Bryce did. But Bryce couldn't run like
Noro did, so you can do more things with him
in that way. So if they don't get too funky
and just look, just keep running the ball, get physical,
I think they can pull this off.
Speaker 4 (23:18):
How excited are you for Jim Harbaugh returned to the sidelines.
Speaker 5 (23:21):
Oh who is it? You know? How has that not been?
We'll see, you know what, though, I will be curious
to see if there is a difference, because this they
had a true preseason where they just sort of stretch
their legs, you know, they check to make sure the
lights worked and the facets were running and everything was good,
and they just go, okay, let's go all we're gonna
(23:42):
win thirty eight to three, and we'll move on. Let's
see if now they start to kind of open it
up a little bit more and start to show Okay,
now now it's big ten times, it's rut Jersey's actually
pretty good. We all forget that they're three and out
right in the thick of the college football playoff chase.
And now let's see if Michigan just starts to say,
(24:03):
let's just everyone else is kind of stunk it up
so far. Let's show what we can do that we
aren't just the callige football playoff contender, that we have
the firepower with all the talent and experience that they
have to absolutely come out and just obliterated team that's
actually played pretty well.
Speaker 3 (24:19):
All right, Pete, complete the sentence for me here.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
We have a lot of other games in the top
twenty five involving top twenty five teams. UCLA playing Utah
as well, that's going to be a big one. Oregon
State Washington State for the pride of the pack too.
The upsets that you wouldn't be surprised to see tomorrow
the top twenty five are what.
Speaker 5 (24:39):
Whoa in the top twenty five. I guess this is
kind of it not really counts, but Washington State, I
mean it's only like, what a three point underdog, but
it's at home. I mean, it's not really going out
on a giant limb here. But I think Oregon State's
you know, it's solid, it's good. Everyone kind of lost
sight at Washington State beat Wisconsin. They blew up that
(25:03):
Colorado State team. This is a rock solid, sound team
that I think is going to start to get more
and more attention as we go on. Excuse me, I
would not be entirely shocked if UCLA went in and
took out utahm Utah's amazing at home. There's some crazy
set that I think.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
It's like.
Speaker 5 (25:23):
The USC game of last year was the only time
since twenty eighteen they haven't won a home game by
more than five points spread. People, But USC is physical.
UCLA is physical. They've got just enough where they might
be able to give the youths a little bit of
a problem tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (25:40):
All right, Pete, last one, Since you're there in Illinois.
As you walk in the streets, have you seen any
flaming dumpsters roll by with either a Northwestern or a
Chicago Bears logo on them?
Speaker 5 (25:52):
Wow? I'm not joking, everybody who all my friends, my
sports friends here, my sports media, especially the sports radio friends.
You know, God helped them. If the Cubs flameout, I
don't even know if the Cubs are playing, honestly, because
I have YouTube TV, so I don't get the cub games,
but between.
Speaker 4 (26:08):
Still in the playoff? Hunt, Pete, still in the playoff?
Speaker 5 (26:11):
Okay, sure, I gets so great two Pert's baseball, the
Bears and the you know, the White Sox, the Blackhawks
who are awful, the Bulls who are awful, Northwestern football,
and now Illinois football. This is a rough, rough time
for Chicago sports media to find anything to cling to.
Speaker 1 (26:34):
You can follow on Twitter at Pete Futech. That is,
at Pete Futech. The website college Footballnews dot com, your
one stop shopping for college football, all the previews, analysis
you could possibly want, all written by the man you
just heard for the past few minutes. Pete as always
enjoyed the games this weekend, and as we get closer
to a Kansas Duke, North Carolina and UCLA playoff in
(26:57):
college football.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
I think that's all we can all hope for this season.
Speaker 5 (27:00):
Rutgers Rutgers is it?
Speaker 4 (27:03):
That's it? The State College of New Jersey, let's go see.
Speaker 1 (27:09):
Just think about that, man, think about that for a second,
because you got a couple of top twenty five teams,
all undefeated, Kansas Duke North Carolina, and you say, ley,
what if that was the college football play not the
college basketball final four, the college football playoff.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
That would be. There's not a lot I wouldn't give
to see that happen in a college.
Speaker 4 (27:25):
Fool talking about stuff. Upset in the Apple card, Buddy man,
you know, turning things on its head. Hey, we're talking
about conference realignment. We talk about chaos everywhere. Here's your
final four.

Speaker 3 (28:10):
Well coming up in twelve minutes.
Speaker 1 (28:12):
I know this was North Carolina State in Virginia on
a Friday night, but my goodness, the end of this
game was absolute insanity. Virginia falls to zero to four.
They lose on a last second field goal in North
Carolina State. But in twelve minutes, we're gonna talk to
(28:32):
you about the last twenty seconds of this game and
the twists and turns and penalties that you're gonna say,
no way this happened, No way did this happen. Absolutely
everything we're gonna tell you happened. If this game, if
this stuff happened with Colorado and Oregon, they would cancel
the NFL Sunday because we just need time to talk
about this.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
We just need to talk about what happened to the
end of Colorado and Oregon.
Speaker 4 (28:56):
We left chaos in between the White Lions, and boy
did we get it.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
It is absolutely amazing what happened at the end of
this game. Again, we're gonna get to that coming up
in about twelve minutes. But Mike and I do it
every week. We give your upset special picks for this
week in the NFL and college football. Going NFL this
week and putting my three and one record on the line,
feeling pretty good to start out, and I'll give you
my first pick. Mike Carmen, Sam Howell is the real thing.
(29:25):
Give me the Commanders getting seven over the Bills seven
when Howell gets hot season a half seven, six and
a half seven, and I've seen seven, so I'm gonna
take seven, just like being O Cook. Whatever the point
spread is in the USA today on Thursday. When Sam
Howell gets hot, he is dominant. You watched him last week.
(29:46):
It happened in the second half in an instant against
the Denver Broncos. He kind of reminds me of Carson
Wentz when he was good, Right, Like, that's kind of
what he's like Carson Wentz seven years ago. Right, that's
Sam Howell. Looks like we're not talking about him enough.
We will after this game. There's gonna be a lot
of big plays in this game. There's gonna be a
(30:08):
lot of sacks, There'll be a lot of turnovers. You're
gonna see big chunk yardage plays. This is gonna be
a big deal. But we're gonna question Buffalo after this.
Give me Washington. I don't think Buffalo solved their problems
with their win last week. That was supposed to be
a big win for them, and they did. Washington's better
than people think they are. Sam Howell's a better quarterback
than they think he is. There's not enough tape on
(30:30):
him yet to say, Okay, we know what all of
his tendencies are. Give me the commanders, give me the seven,
and I will take Sam Howell, Sam Sam Sam Sam
Sam Sam Sam Sam Sam Sam.
Speaker 4 (30:41):
We liked him coming into the year the enemy. He
has a lot of guys at his disposal with that offense,
and defensively, you finally got Chase Young back. I'm on
the other side of that game, but we'll move that
for another time. Titans three and a half point road
dogs to the Browns. I just said the Browns. It's
all I need to say. Favorite squad Deshaun Watson Tennessee.
(31:05):
We watched him last week with the win over the Chargers,
looking for the run game to keep going, and Ryan
Tannehill played some clean football last week. Now he's got
to contend with Miles Garrett. But the Brown's dealing with
some injuries in the secondary. Opportunity knocks. Titans go on
the road and steal this one.
Speaker 1 (31:23):
Look at you, Oh my goodness, the Titans winning that game.
Speaker 4 (31:27):
You know that thirty eight and a half as you're
over under the.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
Only reason I hope that doesn't happen is because you know,
if it doesn't work, out for Kirk Cousins. Ryan Tannehill's
the fallback guy for the Jets. So the more games
they win, the less likely we are to get Ryan
Tannhill at the deadline.
Speaker 4 (31:41):
Well, that is true. You one more guy off the
chess board.
Speaker 3 (31:45):
Yeah, I mean it's one.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
Let's got might need that guy, right, I mean to
come on, the Titans have like five quarterbacks.
Speaker 3 (31:50):
That they don't know if they're already good.
Speaker 1 (31:52):
You know you eventually got to make that move, right,
You got to move off of Tannehill at some point
and throw those guys out there.
Speaker 3 (31:57):
Let them alternate plays like they're playing for Steve Spurry
or why notice uh the other game.
Speaker 1 (32:02):
I will give you not quite an upset, but they
are the dogs coming into the game.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
So it's legit.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
Give me the Saints getting one and a half to
get to three and zero against the Packers. This is
not gonna be a happy home opener for Jordan Love.
By and large, Jordan Love has looked pretty good the
first couple of weeks, right highest rated passer in the NFL.
Kind of a bit of a fuzzy end of a
lollipop on Sunday when the last three drives he couldn't
(32:31):
get his team in the end zone and they wound
up losing a bit of a shocker, but this is
gonna be a different animal entirely. The Saints defense is
really really good. We also on National TV how good
the Saints defense is. They're gonna end up winning this
game for them. New Orleans is now gonna be the
clear favorite to win the NFC South because of their defense.
(32:51):
Derek Carr winning games is gonna be really annoying, so
or have to listen to him saying, oh, I just
got out. Things are so great, But the Saints are better.
They will win this game. Their defense will shut them down.
The Packers are gonna have a tough time running the
football and they're gonna a tough time throwing it.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
Give me the Saints to go to three and zero.
Speaker 4 (33:07):
Look at you, I think that'll be one of the
more fun games of the week. I'm gonna go all
the way since we won't be on air until this
one's rolling the Rams at Cincinnati. Look you got the
owner riding in golf carts with Joe Burrow. It could
be Jake Browning. It could be Jake Browning. Give me
the Rams getting two and a half on the road
on Monday night football. Right now, everybody in Ohio hates
(33:31):
me and that's okay, or actually, I mean that's just
another Friday night.
Speaker 3 (33:37):
Yeah, that was a long line, Mike. There's a big line,
you see.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
It's that line of people trying to wait for one
Gonzalez's autograph today. Like that was pretty good line. That
line that went viral thing. That's the line, Mike, that's the.
Speaker 3 (33:48):
Line right there.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
So there it is our upset special picks of the week.
