(00:00):
Hello, I gotta tell you something. We have been trying to get you
here for one of our special showsfor it seems like forever. This is
Tim. I just want to actually, I want to give you a heads
up that my co host here,Brooke, might be conspicuously fan girling around
you at Celebrity Theater this weekend. So just be able to look out for
that. Okay, Hey, thesame thing I tell my guys every night.
(00:22):
Whatever you do, even if youmake a mistake, do it loud,
yeah, right on? Love it? Well? Hey, Ashley,
how are you with compliments? Dothey make you uncomfortable or do you receive
them? Well? I am learningto receive them well. Ever since a
couple of years ago, I wascomplimenting another songwriter. I was out writing
(00:43):
with Shane McAnally, who's a wonderfulhuman, and I was complimenting another writer
from his publishing company, and thatwriter was like, oh, no,
go or whatever. And Shane saysto him, you do know that slopping
off a compliment actually makes it moreabout you, right? Oh, I've
never thought that. Oh my godgrows So he said, even if you
(01:07):
say, like if someone would belike, oh my gosh, you're so
skinny. You can say thank you. I've been working on that, or
one of the things I say iswhat a nice thing to say out loud,
or like, what a nice thingto have said to me? Okay,
well, or you can even saythank you. I'm working on accepting
compliments. Okay, well, Iwant to give you some compliments, but
I didn't want to make you uncomfortable, and you can give me one of
(01:29):
those lines. But I love you. I am such a fan. I
think that you are one of thebest writers. You've got some of the
best vocals, and you do someof the best covers, and anything can
be thrown at you and you canplay it and sing it. So I
just think you are a phenomenal thankyou. That is a wonderful thing to
know that you think about me.And as far as being able to throw
(01:52):
anything at me and be able toplay it. I used to do a
whole section of my bar show calledLady Jukebox and the Rules where if I
know it at all, I haveto attempt it, and if I don't
know it, I don't have toattempt it. And you've been looking skinny
too, by the way, Sothere you go. I have been working
really hard on that. That isa very happily received complement. Okay,
(02:15):
good Good. Asha McBride has anew album coming out on September eighth.
It's called The Devil. I know, how excited are you about it?
What are we going to hear onit? I'm so excited because we made
this record. It feels like fifteenyears ago. So we've been sitting on
all these songs and sneaking one hereand there into the live shows. So
(02:36):
I'm so excited to be able tojust share it with everybody. What are
you going to hear on it?I would say, as you know,
our first and a lot of oursingles are I have been on the softer,
more mid tempo side, so asmuch of that as we've ever been
given hell for, we decided todo that even better. And then the
(03:00):
songs that we've had that people werelike, I don't know, it just
was just too rock and roll forme. So we did that even better
and I don't know, I justthink we took It's the most dynamic thing
we've done so far. That's awesome. We were working up yesterday, we
were in rehearsal working up the record. The way it is top to bottom
because we're gonna play it one timeon August thirtieth, top to bottom,
(03:23):
and it's so dynamic that we werehaving a hard time switching our brains to
play it live. I love itwell. We can't wait to hear some
of those songs at our acoustic summer. What's better about doing an acoustic show?
What are the benefits? What doyou love about it? View?
There's nothing to hide behind at acousticshows. That's one of the reasons that
(03:43):
over the years at Guitar Poles andstuff, I refused to bring any other
players because I was talking my guitarsand not a prop. I play it,
and now I'm like, oh,you know what, I really would
like to have Chris. They're singingharmonies, and I really would like to
have that resonator guitar on the song. I think that the best thing about
acoustic stuff is just it's there's noI love distortion and I love effects.
(04:06):
I love all the things that wecan do with guitars, but I also
love when there's none of that torely on and it's just simply denotes and
the message. Well, you cantell that you're a true lover and studier
of music. But what would webe surprised to learn that's on your playlist,
like an artist or a song.Oh wow. Normally I would just
(04:29):
throw this to Glory Estefan because ifthere's a song that's stuck in my head
that I can't get out, thatI don't want, there, I can
listen to Glory Estefan and completely solvethat problem, right, Because you're like
pet on of it. You're like, oh, all of a sudden,
I don't know what watch out.Actually, the rhythm is gonna get you.
It is, It's totally gonna getyou. I'm flipping through. I
(04:50):
just hit library on my Apple Musicand there's Marty Stewart chilling. That's I
don't think that's out of out ofthe question here. But Darryl Scott's new
record is school. Dan to Minsky'snew record is pretty cool. But things
I listened to are pretty acoustic leaning. Well good are you do you think
you're going to do any covers SundayNight in our acoustic summer? Well that
(05:13):
depends would you like me too?Yes? Please? Well yes, but
I love your song, so Iwant I want maybe a couple covers,
but mostly you well, they're mostlyus. Okay, that's something else that
we're pretty careful within the show. We'll do one uh here or there,
especially in festival sets because they areso valuable in a festival setting. But
you know, like we do.Maybe it was Memphis Pantillus. We do
(05:36):
walk Softly on This Heart of Mineby h the Kentucky Headhunters, which is
such a jam most people. Wellthe song came out in nineteen eighty nine,
so we're like, we'll be playingit and I'm like, oh my
gosh, only two percent of thiscrowd was alive when this song was out.
What joy I was not alive,but I know, but I can't
(05:58):
wait to hear it. Oh that'ssomething, some good stuff. I really
cannot wait to see you. AndI know our audience is very psyched for
the King and I's acoustic summer.Ask the McBride's going to be there by
the way, light out in thelight on in the kitchen broke her at
the first time she goes you gotto hear this song. The point of
the song is that boys are dumb, and I was like, well,
(06:19):
gosh, you know, between thatsong and the Barbie movie, men are
feeling pretty bad about themselves. Ohpoor or good good? But really,
the reason I love that line somuch in that song and lot on in
the kitchen is that tells you whatage the young lady is that she's speaking
(06:41):
to. Huh yeah right, she'sgoing I know, I know boys are
dumb. I know. Yeah,it's true. Friend of mine, I
actually wrote a song called boys AreStupid and it made me laugh so hard
years ago. Watch a man singa song called boys are Stupid. Yeah,
I'm so glad that that song isis having it's receiving the acceptance and
love that it's receiving. Yeah,it is the fastest moving single we've had.
(07:05):
Oh it's it's a great song.I mean One Night Standards, Little
Dive Bar, and Delanaga Bible onA forty four. I mean every single
one I just I love and Ican't. I hope you play them all
if you have time. I'm writingthem down right now, and I'm not
saying that facetiously. Listen, I'mgonna compliment alert. I think you're one
(07:28):
of the smartest people in country music. Really, your lyrics and just your
your whole vibe and you're scene.I think you're very, very smart.
It's because you're dumb. Is thatwhy? Yeah? Boys are dumb?
Well, thank you, Brooke,I've been working on that. I enjoy
the compliment, see you. Ienjoy the compliment of you're smart because it's
such a beautiful way to frame whata country music dorc. I am a
(07:53):
nerd out on such interesting things. All right, well be prepared. I'm
gonna I'm gonna fangirl over you makeyour little umfterbolsa, get your canned response?
Is ready when I compliment you?But totally ready? And I'm gonna
go over that list to go withyou Standards five and forty four, Delanaga
and light on yep, oh yeah, and baby, I mean I could
think of more, but no,what's the one? When am I thinking?
(08:15):
Where you were singing at the Grandel. Sorry, I'm pregnant, my
brain's not working. It's okay, you are the grandall operating. You started
crying. We're going nowhere? Yes, yes, And the Judge tribute album
is coming out? You do rockingwith a rhythm of the rain. Oh
my gosh. Yes. Getting thatphone call when they're like, oh,
(08:37):
the Jude tribute record is happening.Do you want to be part of.
It's like, what yes, whatwhat song did they choose for me?
Said, oh, you're doing rockingwith the rhythm of the rain. I
love that one. And on thetour with one Ona, I didn't sing
lead on any of that song.I did all of the name. Oh
wow, I said, you'll singlead on this one, and Shelley's fair
Child will come in and do nameon his part. It's so much fun
(09:00):
to be in the studio with theguy that produced these songs with the Jutts.
Wow, that's crazy. If ifI wasn't tone deaf, I would
volunteer to stand up there with youand sing it. Oh man, it's
so cool. It's so cool tobe standing there with him and him going
yeah, that was a great path. I think we'll move on to oh
wow you yeah that you are acountry music nerd. I love it.
(09:22):
That's okay with us, That's okay. Yeah, cannot wait to see you.
