(00:00):
Hello, there's Zach. Hey,how's it going. It's going good.
It's that Tim and Brooke talking toyou right here. Maybe Beryl Boy will
chime in as well. But howare things going in your attempt to become
the skate park Hero? So sofar, so good. The next cut
off is going to be this Thursdayat seven pm, so right now,

(00:25):
kind of fell back a little bitin the placings. But um, you
know a lot of love and supportfrom you know, everybody, everybody that
follows my Instagram page. So yeah, we got to get people voting for
you today. That's why we wantedto have you on so that people can
go to the link and they canvote for our own local hero, Zachary
Rand, who is a Merricopa CountySheriff's deputy. And what part of town

(00:48):
do you patrol in, sir?So, I'm in like the West Valley
area, so more so predominantly likethe Litchfool Park area. Right, Well,
explain to everyone what you're doing andwhy you're doing this. Uh.
So, I started kick Flips andDonuts a couple of years ago. Um,
it was kind of mid mid midtwenty twenty one. I've always been

(01:11):
pro community, and Uh, Iwanted to find a way to give back
to, um, you know, the kids in the community that I that
I patrol. And so I cameup with kick Flips and Donuts and you
know, started off with you know, a board here and there, and
uh, he's able to you know, come up with kick flips and donuts
and kind of map out how II'd be able to you know, give

(01:36):
back more and more. And sofar it's a date I've been able to
give away, um, you know, four and seven boards. That's cool
so far today. Um yeah,So I came across this twenty hot contest
a couple of months ago through myname in the hat, and you know,
with all of the support and thefollowing that I've grown over the last

(01:56):
few years, I've been able tomake it to the semi final. And
and your Instagram page Kick Flips andDonuts, you'll see more information there.
It's just his description is that onecop who skates. Yeah, Zachary is
a sheriff's deputy who also is askateboarder. And the point of this contest,

(02:19):
if you win it, then younot only get ten thousand dollars,
but you also get to meet TonyHawk, who of course is the greatest
skateboarder of all time, absolutely alegend, a legend, and yeah,
as mentioned before in the ten K, I definitely want to, uh you
know, work with different organizations andyou know put that forward a building,

(02:43):
you know, help building or fixingskateparks here within the state, or you
know, buying more boards to beable to you know, to give those
in me. And you know, meeting Tony Hawk, I know he's got
the skate park project and uh,you know, just kind of you know,
collabing with him and finding the wayto make kickflips and donuts bigger and
better. What you're doing is soimportant because it doesn't matter what the activity

(03:07):
is, but getting kids involved insomething is so important because when kids are
bored, they have nothing to do. That's you know better than anyone,
that's when the trouble starts. Sojust getting them outside active is so great
exactly. And for me growing up, um, you know, skateboarding was
everything. It's exactly what you said. It kept me out of let me

(03:29):
out of a lot of trouble, and you know that. I think that's
what resonated with me the most isgoing to the skatepark was an escape.
And you know, I've been youknow some especially some of these young kids
that I come across, I've beenkind of trying to figure out life.
Not only do you love skateboarding whenyou're you know, trying to figure out
life and you know what the nextstep is going to be. And you

(03:52):
know, everybody within those senses oryou know, just on a skateboard period,
you know, nobody understands what you'redoing aside from you know, the
other skateboarders. So to show themsomebody that, um, you know still
skates and is in you know,a position to build you know, law
enforcement. Growing up, law enforcementand skateboarders you know didn't don't necessarily have,

(04:15):
you know that the biggest it's it'skind of like a little unspoken feud.
But to show them like, hey, look, you know, um
it's it's not all you know, beef or anything like that. There there
can be some some mutual respect andlove and appreciation, and there's to show

(04:36):
them that you know, there issomebody within that you know, career field,
that that knows what they're doing inrespects what they're doing. It's positive
image. You know, you're helpingthem out and showing them a different side
of things than just I've heard thatfrom a lot of cops. It's a
you know a lot of people, there's communities that they only see us when

(04:59):
there's problems, when there's trouble,and so it's a great way to interact
with people and doing something fun. What is h Zachary? Also, by
the way, I you'd mention isan Army veteran and a Purple Heart recipient,
So thank you so much. Thankyou guys. What is the best
or most complicated so called trick youcan do on a skateboard? Um in

(05:20):
or out of uniform? Because myfirst picture of you was with you all
of your gear on, and Ithought, how does the guys skate with
it being top heavy? But no, the best trick you could do out
of uniform? Um So, Ithink the older that I've gotten that kind
of stayed away from like big stairsets or anything really kind of crazy.

(05:40):
That way it can continue to workand not break myself off. But yeah,
more so like the technical side, you know a lot of manual tricks
and combinations and stuff like that.So okay, well, have you ever
chased a purp down on a skateboard. No, a lot of people there.
There is a videos, a coupleof videos that I kind of took

(06:01):
off on Instagram with the San DiegoI believe it's a San Diego trooper or
deputy or something that was laying outsome flares while riding a skateboards. So
I don't know. Listen, wegotta get you to the top. We
gotta get you all the way tomeet Tony Hawk, and you're gonna take
the ten thousand dollars prize money andfigure out how to do something good with

(06:24):
it or build another skate park orgive away more skateboards to kids, and
so yeah, first thing in thecommunity, first thing we want people to
do is go to Zachary's Instagram kickFlips and Donuts. We'll put a link
on ours, and we'll put alink on k and Ice Country too,
so you can vote directly for himto become the skate park hero to meet
Tony Hawk. I love your storyand we've got to get you there,

(06:46):
and we've got to know what.Thursday night, around seven o'clock our time
to vote. Correct, Yeah, seven o'clock Pacific standard time, all right,
Zachary hope to check in with youand congratulate you on winning it all,
and we're counting on the Canucks familyto get you there. Hey,
thank you, guys. I appreciateit. All right, take care Brod.
