that's the barrier spray put down byMosquito Joe Trey Powell. It's going
to drop I to talk to usabout that. And Accordney Avn we'll be
here from Diamond Concrete Solutions. It'sthat time of the year when well,
(00:55):
the elements outside, whether it bethe heat or the thunderstorms, really mean
there's a lot of outdoor work theycan't do this time of the year,
and there's a good reason for that, but they're doing a lot of indoor
stuff. The projects they can doto beautify and fix that concrete around your
place, whether it's your home oryour business or your warehouse, we'll discuss
with Coordinate from Diamond Concrete Solutions atAll coming up on this edition of the
(01:17):
Home Improvement Show of the Midlands. As we get under way right now by
welcoming in mister Electric himself. Hey, it's Jeremy Holliday. Jere me,
Good morning, sir, Good morningGary. How you doing, brother,
I'm doing fantastic. Thanks for asking. Man. You look you're a busy
guy. Man. You got thework clothes on today, man, Yeah.
Yeah, we've been in the fieldhere a little bit, so just
swinging by to do our show.Get an early start today, that's all
(01:40):
right. You know, typically unlessyou're say building or remodeling a home and
you need an electrician to come inand do some work, or you've got
an issue, you know, andyou got to call electrician, lots of
folks don't think necessarily so much aboutwell other stuff. You do it,
mister Electric. And we've talked aboutthis before and making sure that what you've
(02:04):
got is you know, up tosnuff, right, that's making the grade
that it's safe. Yeah. Sure, you guys do these safety checks,
yes, all the time, right. Yeah, when we come out,
we want to do a safety checkon the house, and what we'll do
is we'll go around and do avisual evaluation of the electrical system and we
can come back to you with anykind of code updates or any safety items
(02:29):
that may make the home safer foryou, and we'll let you know while
we're there, and if you wantto accomplish in it or do any of
those things, we can go aheadand get started on them. So that's
part of the service that we provide. Okay, so anytime you make a
call, you're going to be atleast taking a look at things. Yes,
(02:50):
that's right. Now you talk aboutcode upgrades, So let's let me
be sure I'm clear here. Therecan be and I guess it happens all
the time, right, things getupgraded. You know what was okay last
year should be you know this thisyear, whatever. But just because the
code's been upgraded, updated, thatdoesn't necessarily mean I'm guessing that, well,
(03:16):
whatever your home is up to dateon code wise, that it's not
safe. That's correct. Yeah, you know, inherently electrical systems are unsafe,
and you know we make them assafe as possible, but they can
still hurt you if they're not maintainedor taken care of, you know,
(03:37):
so you know, there's more devicesthat come out that can help make the
system safer. So such as youknow, arc fault protection breakers. They're
a new style breaker. They've beenout for a little while, but they
monitor the connections in the home, and if there's an ARC somewhere in the
(03:59):
system, those breakers will trip, whereas your old style breakers they just have
direct you know, short circuit orover current protection. So things like that.
The gfis that are out now groundfault circuit interrupter type receptacles they self
check now. So whereas the olderones, if the ground fault protection somehow
(04:25):
gets damage or isn't working correctly, that receptacle would still put power out and
you might have a false sense ofsecurity that you're on a GFCI circuit or
device, but it's not providing thatprotection. So the new one self check
and if they're not providing that protection, they stop putting power out. So
(04:45):
it's not that your systems, youknow, your system can just be made
safer a lot of times. Okay, So it could be improved, improved
exactly, Okay, So it's whenwhen you do go out into these safety
checks here, I mean what whata the items that use spot most frequently
that need to be fixed. That'sa tough one because there's so many items
(05:06):
you know, you know, smokedetectors or smoke alarms, and people may
not think about that electrician looking atmy smoke detector. What foar? But
right, we want to while we'rethere, we want to make sure that
they're that they're working properly and alsothat they're within the range in age where
they are still reliable. Right,Okay, So a fc I protection ground
(05:30):
fault protection grounding systems. We've pulledup ground rods where you know, only
forty percent of the ground rods left, so you need you need new grounding
a lot of times on older homes, you know, disconnects wearing out,
even as simple as the light fixturenot working, or three way switches where
(05:53):
you go on one side of thehall and if the switches up, then
the other side will work. Butif that if the other side of the
hall the switches down, the switchat the beginning of the hall doesn't work.
You know, just real simple things. Yeah, I'm going to guess
that well, plumbing would be oneof these things too, but probably more
so when it comes to electricity, there's just so much we as homeowners or
(06:17):
business owners for that matter, don'treally know what all's involved. Sure,
and they're limited to me personally frommy experience. Yeah. Can I can
I wire in a new you know, light switch? Yeah, it's not
(06:39):
my favorite thing to do, justbecause you know, I don't want to
get shocked. Can I hang aceiling fan? Yeah? Boy, that's
a pain, especially on the shoulders. But you know, aside from that,
I mean you can give yourself ina heap of trouble pretty quick.
Yeah, if you're not careful.And there's a lot of things I can
do too, Gary, but alot of times I I just don't want
(07:00):
to. Yeah. So now withmister electric, of course, the business
you're in, you guys got torun twenty four to seven, right,
that's right. Yeah, so youknow we work Monday through Friday. Then
we have emergency service on the weekends. So yeah, we're always available.
(07:23):
You're always going to get somebody onthe phone. Uh. So you can
visit us. We're on Woodrow Street. Uh yeah, Nermo. We're locally
owned and operated. We have ourtechnicians or background check, drug tested.
You know, we send you anemail with a photo of the guy that's
(07:43):
coming out to your house, soyou know who's showing up. Our vands
are wrapped and lettered. You knowwho we are when we pull up in
front of your house. And uh, so you know it's a service that
we provide. Now, obviously, whenever is a standard. You know,
when somebody just makes makes the call, I mean, there's going to be
a charge to come out regardless ofwhat happens, all right, But some
(08:09):
people there are other kind of hiddencharges in there sometimes that you get hit
with that you're not even aware of. Fees for for what's a dispatch fee?
What is that? So we don'tcharge a dispatch fee, So if
we come out to your house, there's no initial charge. Uh. And
we can give you and we cangive you a quote for what you want
(08:31):
done, whether it's a troubleshooting quote, because troubleshooting consists of taking the tools
out and doing some work finding outwhat's going on. We have different levels
of troubleshooting. Then we can giveyou a quote on anything that else you
need done in the house. Andif you don't, if you don't want
to do it that day or hthen then we leave and you don't owe
(08:52):
us anything. Okay, so ifI if I call and you come out
and I'll determine what, well, yeah, I don't want to do that.
I'm not getting charged for you showingup, that's right. Oh okay,
yeah, So that's one of theone of the perks with calling us
is we don't have a dispatch fee. Do you for your for folks who
work with you all the time?Do you do you do like annual check
up kind of things or you know, a couple of times or whatever.
(09:15):
Are there any kind of plans availablelike that so that people can have that
assurance that their system is running properly. We do have an advantage plan.
It's like a club membership. Itdoesn't have a where we show up routinely
every year. Every three years, the advantage plan needs to be renewed and
(09:35):
we want to come out and doa safety check on your house at the
time of renewal. And but weneed to come out and get your approval.
Isn't something that just automatically renews, you know, in three years and
you're wondering what that charge is onyour card? You know, we have
to come out and get permission andwe want to do a safety check,
so we can evaluate your home atthat time and resign you up. You
(09:58):
guys want a lot of trucks.I was out your place a couple months
ago and happen to see it overthere in Irmo and you got a lot
of trucks on that lot. Yeah, we have a few, so and
we're always hiring. So if there'sany service electricians out there, residential,
especially because that's ninety five percent ofour work. We do commercial, but
ninety five percent of the time we'recatering to homeowners. Since you brought it
(10:20):
up, I mean, what theprocess for somebody who's thinking about going into
this sort of business. Yeah, you're looking to hire folks, somebody who
maybe has no experience at all butwould like to. I mean, are
there apprenticeship programs? Well, howlong does it take somebody to go from
ground zero to really knowing what they'redoing before we let them go? So
it can be up to two years, up to four years really to be
(10:41):
a journeyman electrician. Normally, that'swhat an apprenticeship consists of, is four
to five years of schooling as faras being able to go out on a
van on your own. That dependson the type of job you're going to.
So there's some things we'll let aguy loose on that he's done over
and over there a little you know, like you said, hanging a ceiling
fan, and then other things whereyou need a complete service change. Uh,
(11:07):
and it's going to take a littlebit of experience to know where that
where it needs to be positioned, where it needs how it needs to be
placed, and what type of wiringyou're going to use and things like that.
So so we're talking about people whoare who've been through the through a
program who are now journeyman electricians. But even at that point, you're going
to make sure they are well fittedto the particular job that it's called for.
(11:31):
That's correct. I good, misterelectric, Jeremy. How do folks
get a hold of you if they'vegot problems, whether it's just a routine
checkup, a safety check, orthey got something needs to be fixed,

emergency stuff, what sort of thatcould vary from weekend to weekend. Who
knows the number of callers are gettingBut what what sort of time frame could
folks be looking at it if theyhad an issue that needed to be addressed.
Let's say on a weekend. Imean, how quickly can y'all typically
what's your what's your goal? Howfast can you get out there? We
(12:16):
give our guys two hours on theweekend, Yes, on the weekend to
get out. We want to makea call back to you as fast as
possible. But if our guys sittingin a restaurant with his family, he
needs to have time to to getto the house, put on his uniform
and get get ready to go outto the call. But we want to

Show of the Midlands. Good morning, good to have you along. My
name is Gary David, now joinedby Summer from Beaver roofingg and Gutters.
Some are good morning to you.Good morning, good morning. Hey.
Let me congratulate you first up,because you guys have just won the awards
announced a couple of weeks ago bestof in the state newspaper reader's poll when
it comes to roofing to gutters intocontracting too. But I don't want anybody
(14:54):
to be misled because if you happento go back and glance at that very
slickly produced state newspaper best of catalogthat was that was not They spend some
money on that one. Yes,you're want to see under that category roofing,
gutters, contracting, the winner isAnthony John Construction. Well got it.
Yeah, yeah, but list againin her mind, folks, that
(15:16):
it's Beaver Roofing and Gutters. It'sit's still you, it's still aj,
It's yes, it's it's still thefolks who work for you who put on
these gutters. Folks like Heath andthe gang are there, the roofing folks
and the warranties, the guarantees, the uh the reviews you find online at
Facebook and Google and Angie and homeAdvisor. Yeah, it's same same thing,
(15:39):
right, same thing, same thing, yes, sir, Well let's
talk about it. Thank you,Thank you for that congratulations. It does
mean a lot to us. Youknow, we work really hard to make
sure that our customers still appreciate it, and you know, we give them
the best quality work and and justdo the best that we can for them.
So you know, it was suchan honor to have to been nominated,
(16:03):
much less one those you know, those categories. So it was it
was awesome. We we got tothank our customers too, So thank you.
And you know, if we backup a little bit, I mean,
you guys have been in business. You and AJ started this company a
little over ten years ago, Iguess, now, right, that's right,
yes, sir? Okay, SoI mean this is this is a
local, homegrown company. How didjust start? Was it the contracting stuff?
(16:26):
I mean, how did it allbegin? Summer? It was.
It was the contracting stuff. SoAJ you know, he started out with
just him doing smaller kind of biddingjobs and you know, he would he
would, you know, do ajob and it would be great, you
know, and then we get theinspection and then just you know, little
(16:48):
by little word of mouth, youknow, we grew, we grew,
we grew, we grew, andand here we are today, you know,
and it's just it's it's incredible reallyto think where, you know,
where we started to where we arenow. You know, I in the
beginning stages, I say, whenI used to work, I you know,
I didn't always work with the company, but I guess about five years
(17:12):
ago when I actually got pregnant, and you know, he was like,
well, no better time now thanto quit work and you know, hop
on board full time here and youknow, have you know, have the
babies with you. And that's that'swhat we've done. So it's been a
whirlwind to think that, you know, where we've where we come and and
(17:32):
whatnot. So we're we are sothankful and very appreciative to our customers for
their continued support and you know, just for everything. Well it as well
deserved summer I mean, it reallyis that you guys have done work for
my family's been You've done contracting work. You know, you guys upgraded a
home of ours about four years agoor so. We put it up for
(17:53):
sale, and I know for afact that we wouldn't have gotten more than
top dollar like we did. Andthis was pre pandemic, now, okay,
right, pre pandemic. Had itnot been for the outstanding work y'all
did you have this past summer,y'll put gutters on our home, the
six inch seamless gutters, and Ithink probably next spring, you know,
we'll probably be talking about, youknow, replacing our roof. So whenever
(18:15):
you're ready, we are here, let's let's talk about roofs because we haven't
talked about them in a little whilenow, because that's a that's a big
point. And again let's point outthat because the roofing and gutters portion of
your business has grown so amazingly overthe years. This is this is why
you've kind of branched it out andat least rebranded as Beaver Roofing and Gutters.
(18:37):
We've we've grown and grown and grown, and the roofing and the gutter
portions and you know what we weresaid, it's time to just to split
that off. And here we go. We're going to have new name,
same people, but new name.We want to be more recognizable. You
know, before Anthony John Construction,it didn't have roofing in the name,
(18:59):
right, So here we are BeaverRoofing and Gutters. BAM, plain and
simple. That is exactly what thatcompany does. So yep, that is
it growth. And here we arewith Beaver Roofing and Gutters and we are
super excited for branding and to getour name out there because we are the
same. We want everybody to knowthe quality, the work. Everything's the
(19:19):
same, the people are the same. But we just have a new name
and a new number. Which that'sgreat. New number eight oh three nine
nine one roof easy to remember. That's by the way, absolutely so those
like me challenged on the computer onthe telephone keyboard, that's seven six sixty
three. Okay, thank you.All right, Well, let's let's talk
(19:42):
a bit about roofing here. Andyou know what, during the week when
we talk about y'all's business, Ioften mentioned and I refer back to an
email I got from a listener. This would have been Thanksgiving, probably about
three years ago, now, maybemaybe two three years ago. Who made
a mistake. We had a thunderstormroll through that time of the year,
(20:06):
that that that that fall, thatlate fall, and he had not a
big problem but just just a minorhole in his roof that he needed to
be fixed up. And rather thancall you guys, first, he called
somebody else. He listens to theshow all the time. He knows all
about you, But for whatever reason, he wound up calling somebody else,
(20:26):
and surprise, surprise, he wastold, well, it's going to be
three months before we can get toyou. Three months. Now, again,
you got a hole in your roof. I don't care how big,
house small. All right, youdon't need the whole roof replace, but
you need that fixed. And yougot you got somebody who says they do
roof repairs telling you it's going tobe three months before we can get to
(20:49):
you. All right, by nobody'sthat nobody's that busy summer. I mean,
come on, uh so there isplenty of work for everybody, you
know, But it's just how youtreat your customers and how you know,
it's basically how you want your hometreated, you know, you can't,
like you said, you can't havea hole in your roof for three months.
What is this gentleman or homeowner supposedto do? You know? So
(21:12):
yeah, I remember specifically the customers. You know, we got out there,
got him taken care of, andhe was just ecstatic, you know,
like you said, No, hedid not need a full roof replacement.
And we're not here to sell everybodya full roof every time when it's
not warranted. You know, we'reout there, we're going to evaluate it.
(21:33):
We're going to get you back toyou know, back to no water
penetration. Nope, you know whereyou're You got your dry, how about
that your dry You're not getting leakedon or anything like that. So we
may repairs, we do replacements. You know, we're not here just only
roof for only roof replacement. That'snot what we're here to do. And
(21:56):
as I recall, the listener toldme that y'all within twenty four hours.
And yeah, once you were done, you couldn't even tell it was ever
a problem. So congratulations again. But this brings us up to another issue
here summer, that there are alsocompanies out there who just plane flat,
don't do roof repairs, which isreally weird to me, but they don't.
(22:18):
So but here's the danger, right, if you have an issue with
your roof and you wind up witha company that only does roof replacements,
guess what, You're going to geta roof replacement. That's it. So
let's talk about from an educational standpointhere, as a homeowner, when you
(22:41):
have an issue with your roof, are there any things you want to be
on the lookout for, or ifa roofer just comes in right away and
says, yeah, you need awhole new roof. I mean, how
can you know as a homeowner whetheryou're getting the straight scoop or not?
So absolutely get it. So whatthere are so a lot of different reasons
(23:03):
why you know people will call inhere of late. Obviously we have had
a lot of storm damage or youknow storms, winds, high winds like
that. So that's a that's awhole nother situation. But you know,
we'll go down that hole in justa second, or that round in just
(23:23):
a second. So whatever, youknow, we come out, we're gonna
get up on the roof, we'regonna take photos, we're gonna show you
what you have going on. Sothat's the main thing. You know,
a lot of times they're just oh, yep, that's it. So a
lot of stuff going on up there, but it's probably best let's just go
ahead and you know, let's replaceit all. No, we're gonna take
(23:47):
into a can't. We're gonna takea look at your pipe boots. We're
gonna look at the grit and thegranule on your shingles that are still less.
You know, we're gonna educate youabout what you have going on with
your roof right now. And alot of times, you know, roofs
are they're still they're in great condition, but they just need a little bit
of PLC, if you will.So we'll put an extra feeling around those
(24:10):
pipe boots that bent out from youryour bathroom fans or you know, your
the fans over your ovens and thingslike that, So we'll put a little
extra cock around there. Sometimes roofsget nail popped. We can put some
feeling over that. That's not abig deal. You know, We're just
gonna and we're gonna make sure thatit's it's it's in good shape. Give
(24:33):
us that brand new phone number, that brand new website, I folks,
and get a hold of you absolutelyso you can find us at Beaver Roofing
dot com. And then eight ohthree nine nine one roof nine seven six
six three and again congratulations, bestof in the state newspaper reader's poll for
roofing and gutters. It's beaver Roofingand gutters. All right, Thank you,
(24:55):

Next up. Hey, it's tyTrey Powell, Moiscity, Joe Moore,
Buddy, good morning. How areyou. I'm pretty well, mann't you.
I'm doing good, trying to staycool. Yeah, well we're well
little cool is not even the rightword, but we're not as excessively hot
as we have them. Yeah,it's it's been a We had quite the
(26:30):
heat waves that come through, andI guess we always have it. It's
just always surprises, just when whenit's here. This one's been worse,
don't you feel. But well, anyway, it does have one positive side
effect and that it keeps us outof our yards, right, So yeah,
for most of us that is true. Just depends if people have a
(26:52):
pool, then they're probably in it. Well, if they live on the
lake, they're probably in the lakeor in a creek somewhere. But uh,
but yeah, it is it hasbeen awfully hot, so you may
not have realized how bad the mosquitopopulation is. And now that we've got
some storms rumbling through you know, each and every day, and that that
(27:14):
moisture really really feeds that population growth. So yeah, if you're thinking,
well, because have men that bad, you probably have it outdoors enough.
Yeah, that's that is the truth. If you stay inside, that's uh,
that's the easiest way to fix it. But if you do like to
be outside, the mosquito population isas high as it gets. I mean
it is. The pressure is onand it is it is a great time
(27:37):
to get some relief. So howlet's talk about that relief. How does
this work? Mosquito Joe? Andagain I often mentioned when we chat,
we've been using you guys for thelast five years at our house, and
yeah, I don't I don't havean issue with mosquitoes. I never once
in five years AB had to say, well, we'd like to do something
(27:57):
outside. But doesn't that conversation ison habit of my house. So how
do you make this magic happen?Tray, Well, the most important thing
when you're trying to control mosquitos ina yard in the midlands of South Carolina
is you've got to find where they'rebreeding. And the type of mosquitoes we
(28:18):
have are very lazy. They don'tfly very far. They might fly two
hundred feet in their whole lifetime. So the chances of the breeding spot where
they're breeding being in that yard isnearly one hundred percent. It's in the
high nineties if unless they're a veryvery small yards half most properties are probably
(28:41):
average about a half an acre, which means they're definitely they're not breeding in
the pond down the street, they'rein the creek, back in the woods.
They might be breeding there too,but they're also breeding in our yards.
And the type of mosquitos we have, they like to they're called container
breeders, and that is because mostof the time they're breeding in man made
containers, the bottom of a flowerpot, a gutter, a you know,
(29:04):
maybe a drainage ditch or a drainagething that's underground, you know,
like a French strain or something likethat. It's toys, wheelbarrows, buckets,
trash cans, anything and everything thatwe have that's a man made container
will hold water and it doesn't takevery much. I mean they You can
(29:26):
get a hundred mosquitoes out of acap a bottle cap full of water,
so it doesn't take much. It'susually hidden, it's probably going to be
shaded somewhere underneath something, and it'susually going to be very dirty water.
They're not breeding in a nice, clean swimming pool. They might breed in
a green swimming pool, but it'sa man made container and finding it is
(29:48):
not easy. But that is thefirst part of our task is to every
time we come is to spend afew minutes searching that property for a breeding
ground and then treating it. Eitherwe're going to get rid of it or
we're going to treat it with alarvacide so we eliminate them before they're ever
born. If you can cut thatbreeding cycle, I mean your chances of
(30:11):
success and controlling mosquitoes is infinitely higherbecause the populations will just be dwindled to
almost nothing. And so that's fortyor fifty percent of what we do is
larvacide, finding where they're breeding andtreating that or getting rid of it so
that they can't breed and no newmosquitoes can be born. And the second
(30:33):
part is that we spray the yard. We treat it with a product that
sticks to whatever we spray it on, So we spray it all the foliage
because that's where the adult mosquitoes hidewhen they're not biting you. They're usually
hit hiding from the sun or loafingin some sort of foliage, so usually
not in the grass. The grassdoesn't provide enough shade, so it's usually
(30:56):
bushes, shrubs, trees, thingslike that up underneath the ease of a
house, under an umbrella down inyou know the you know, you know,
some sort of a drainage thing orsomething like that, so you know,
we're spraying that will eliminate the mosquitos. It also eliminates them for about
three weeks. That product sticks andit breaks down in place, and it
(31:18):
will be active for about three weeks. In three weeks, it's it's kind
of getting broken down by the uvand it needs to be replaced. So
we come back every three weeks andwe do the same thing. We find
where they're breeding, We treat it, and then we reapply that barrier spray
so that you can go outside anytime day or night and not have to
spray yourself down or worry about gettingeaten. Alive. Yeah, if we
(31:41):
if we get a lot of rain, does that have any impact on the
treatment that you do? I mean, is it going to wash it off
these leaves or is that stuff stickpretty good? Yeah, it's we as
a very good surt fact and it'sanother step that Mosquito Joe will take us
to make sure that the product willstay in place. You don't want it
on the ground. You don't wantit to get into the into the you
(32:04):
know, leach into the into theground. Then it's not doing any good.
It breaks down right in place,So it's it's it needs about thirty
minutes to dry. Once it dries, it's rain proof and it is not
going anywhere. And we're treating allof the foliage, the green foliage.
We're not treating open blooms, sothat will protect your bees and butterflies and
your beneficial insects. We're really reallytargeting those mosquitos and then they're hiding places.
(32:30):
So explain to us, Trey, how it is that you could have
a neighbor next door, let's say, with a you know, a pool
is not running and it's turned greenand it is a humongous breeding ground for
these mosquitoes. How do you protectyourself in your yard from that they're right
next door. Yeah, it dependson how long it lasts like that,
(32:52):
But you know that barrier spray whenwhen those mosquitoes, you know, start
to migrate into your yard. Firstof all, they don't fly very far,
so they probably won't go to youryard unless it's really closed. But
once they start getting into your yard, they're gonna get into what we've sprayed
and then they're going to be eliminated. So think about it like a it's
(33:13):
like a flea collar. We puta flea collar around your yard, so
if any mosquitoes come into the yard, they're going to realize real quick,
this is not a great place tobe and either going back or they're going
to be eliminated. And since youbrought up flea collars, I mean,
isn't it true that the same sprayusing for mosquitos is effective on fleas and
ticks as well? Yeah, mosquitos, fleas and ticks, that's what we're
(33:35):
targeting. We do have treatments forspiders, we have treatments for gnats and
you know other pests, but themain treatment we're doing most of the yards
is mosquitos, fleas and ticks. It's the same active ingredient as in flea
and tick shampoo or life shampoo, things that are put directly on animals and
(33:57):
directly on child's head. Try andlimit they tests when they're have gotten to
where they you don't want them forsure. But the product is not harmful
to kids, TETs, or anythinglike that. And we're we're targeting mosquitos,
so we're not harming those beneficial insectslike ease and butterfly. I may
be mistaken here, correct me ifI'm wrong, but I think since we
last spoke that I saw at leastone story that there was a case of
(34:22):
malaria not far from I think itwas in Georgia. Yep. Yeah,
it's unfortunate when the when the summertime, when our mosquito populations get really high.
You know, you know, thosemunicipalities are working in full force in
the background trying to keep the populationat bay. But when the population gets
(34:43):
really high, that's when you youhave to be more concerned about those mosquito
born illnesses like malaria, chicagonia, dingay fever, West Nile virus, you
know, zeca virus that all ofthese things are carried by mosquitos. Some
of them are deadly, others willjust make you really, really sick.
And so mosquitoes are not something thatthat you want to you know, play
(35:06):
around with. They are the deadliestthing on the planet. Thank goodness,
we have had you know, aggressivemosquito control by the government in this country
for one hundred years and so wedon't have wide spread outbreaks like they do
in third world countries. But youknow, it's it is, there's something
that you definitely don't want to messwith. You really want to treat for
(35:28):
them or or stay away from them, say stay inside. Is the thing
that the municipalities use basically the samething you're using. But and second question
is they're just spraying to kill theexisting mosquito population, right, They're not
doing anything about those eggs are aboutto hatch. Is that correct? So
no, they are treating, youknow, So first of all, the
(35:53):
spray that they're spraying is just aninstant knockdown. They will spray or buy
aircraft at an optimum time when mostof the mosquitos are going to be in
the air looking for a meal. And so that's dawn in dusk, and
they are. When that product hitsthem in the air, it eliminates them.
(36:13):
By the time it hits the ground, it's broken down and it's gone.
There's no residual to it whatsoever. They're just trying to reduce the population
as much as they can. Butthey also will go over big swamp lands
and places that read you know, bazillions of mosquitos and they will buy aircraft,
they will lay down large sides thatwill eliminate them before they're ever born.
(36:37):
So it's they do the same kindof two step process using a little
bit different products, a little bitdifferent objective. You know they're doing that
is going to reduce it so wedon't get malaria, but it doesn't make
it so you can have an outdoorpicnic in your backyard without getting bit.
And that's the difference. That's wheremosquito Joe comes in is we're going to
come into your your backyard and we'regoing to eliminate them at the worse right
(37:00):
there, so that you don't have, you know, mosquitos in your yard.
So again you mentioned as a recurringservice every three weeks you'll come out.
I know there's some experience, ofcourse, So how long does the
contract with period run. So wehave no contracts. You know, a
person can call we We actually offera first time customer a a deep discount.
(37:22):
They can get a first treatment foronly thirty nine dollars. That's up
to a half an acre. Afterthat, it just depends on the size
of the property at seventy nine, eighty nine, ninety nine depends on the
size of the property. But there'snever a contract with Mosquito Joe. This
product works. We're very proud ofhow well it works, and we know
how to do this. So we'rewe want to earn your business the right
(37:44):
way. We're never going to putyou into a contract. We believe you're
gonna love it and you're gonna staywith us, and you're gonna want to
once you get it, it's it'sdifficult to stop because you start getting bit
and you're going to wish that wehad continued treating that yard. Oh,
let's have it for me. Ournormal service starts round March first and goes
all the way through Thanksgiving. Allright, So Trey, final question,

to the Home Improvement Show of theMidlands on one O three point five FM
and five sixty am. Wvoc aswe well come in. Hey, it's
Courtney Avin from Diamond Concrete Solutions.Good morning, good morning, how are
you. I'm good You're on asolo today I see, Yes, I
am. It is busy, busy, high season for us for sure,
and still at the same time,we're starting to make that call to keep
(40:47):
it to the indoor projects these days. There's a good reason for that.
Yeah, we've got to kind ofpause some of that outdoor work. Definitely
pooledecks. That's one of the hardestthings to complete right now with this heat
and these afternoon showers that we getto kind of break that heat. So
we finally made the call earlier thisweek that it was time to tell folks.
So sorry, but we got towait till, you know, Labor
(41:07):
Day September to do these pool projectsagain. Yeah, and I mean this,
hey, listen as hot as itis, the first thing you want
to do if you got to getYeah. Yeah, we actually just did
a pool project and blessed this littleboy's heart. His mom came out to
me. I was checking on,you know, status, and we were
sort of finishing up there. Thingsturned out beautifully, but she said,
(41:28):
oh, this is the longest myson has been out of the pool this
summer. And I very graciously saidto her, well, you know,
the next time you decide to dothis, hopefully it's you know, ten,
ten to fifteen years. But thenext time you decide to do this,
do it in March. Yeah, because it's it's the process. I
mean it is. Yes, asyou said, only the heat, but
(41:50):
the rain can affect what you do. It's got to I guess set for
lack of a better term, Yes, well, we have to have dry
time, and the heat does actuallyspeed dry time, but sometimes that's sometimes
that's a problem also because when wehave a large surface area to cover,
it dries too quickly and then wehave a recoat window where we need to
be able to go back into asecond layer or a top coat. And
(42:10):
if it dries too fast and we'restill working on another section of the pool
trying to get the first coat down, we can't get back around to it
fast enough before it's too dry,and we've got to, you know,
try to drop back and figure outhow to problem solve. So there's a
lot of science, it's interesting thatgoes into what we do, and so
we have to pay a lot ofattention to that and train on it and
(42:30):
read our technical data sheets and allthose fun things. It takes a little
bit of brain power to do whatwe do. Sometimes listen, I have
to read carefully, and we haveto practice and measure and count, you
know, put on timers and thingslike that to try and work through those
things. But it does become burdensomeenough really with this heat and then the
(42:50):
threat of rain that we just say, look, you don't want us to
take longer on this project having toredo it and keep in the pool clothes
even longer. Let's just go aheadand wait till sometimes to do this.
Okay, so another month and ahalf or so you can be back out.
Probably we'll get right back to it. You can still enjoy that pool
for the month of September if wecan knock it out. That kind of
thing. Or it's really nice tohave that beauty in the yard or the
(43:12):
backyard finished in the in the fall, and then it's ready to go for
you the next season because it's notgonna be beat up in the you know,
over the winter. It'll stay beautifulfor you and be ready for you
next spring like it's brand new.Absolutely. So it's the indoor stuff that
you're focusing on right now. Focusingon indoors, so lots of polishing,
staining, and ceiling. We aredoing some basement projects which are really fun,
(43:36):
you know, sort of entertainment basementspace where folks might be. We've
actually had one on Lake Catherine andthen of course Lake Murray, lots of
Lake Wateree. We're doing some stuffon in Camden on Lake Waterree right now
with those basement projects where a homeis built on a hill and you've got
a lot of entertainment space maybe ona different level, and so making those
(43:57):
floors beautiful with like decorative hardwood overlaysthat look like real wood and just really
make the home beautiful and finished seeming. So that still blows my mind how
that can be done, but itis beautiful, it is, and we're
actually doing some polishing. Polishing issomething that really let's talk about that for
a minute, because there's a tendencywhen I hear you say polishing just the
(44:21):
air, polish it up. Butit's a lot more than just polishing it
up. Yeah, well, youknow, we sort of do a lot
of that for commercial. It's agreat commercial application because it's very cost effective
compared to a lot of other flooringfloor coverings. But that polishing is something
that can be done indoor, whetherit's residential or commercial. We can do
any type of home concrete, slabpolishing, or retail space or event space.
(44:45):
We've got a large event space thatwe're doing right now for polished floors,
and so we come in and wereally treat the joints to make those
beautiful. Often a floor is reallyold and ugly when it needs polishing.
Sometimes it is new. We've gota multi family project downtown that's brand new,
poor and they want to polish. But we treat those joints and then
(45:06):
you densify the floor with the machinerythat polishes. And you can do different
grits, so you you know, two hundred, four hundred, eight hundred
grit, We typically recommend eight hundredgrit or higher because it's just going to
look prettier, not quite so raw. Is this like a pixel thing on
a TV. The more pixels youhave, the better it looks. That's
a great Actually, that's a greatcomparison. So it does really make the
(45:30):
grit finer, and so it lookssmoother and it looks more more glossy.
I guess you can add gloss toyour top coat as well. But if
you have a lower grit, Iguess it's grittier, right, and so
sometimes people want that from manufacturing spaceor something more commercial, or you don't
need to pay for the extra processesto densify at a higher grit because it's
(45:53):
not needing to impress anyone. It'sneeded to be more functional. But that
denseification process really does help to protectthe longevity of the concrete by making it
harder. It hardens the surface ofthe concrete. It's not just an aesthetic.
It's not just aesthetic. It reallymakes it more long lasting with that
(46:15):
densification process by making it harder andmore durable and closing up those pores than
with the final processes of that polishing. So the pores being closed means that
there's less risk for the staining andfor mildew inside if you've got moisture or
anything that might get spilled soaking downinto those pores and causing issues down the
(46:38):
road, or just making it ugly. So that densification and then those whether
you do a die application, whichis very much like a stain, well,
lets me ask you about that, because you can do that too,
right, Yes, you can dothat too, and so those are sort
of the two different treatments, verydifferent install processes, but very similar looks
(46:58):
to do a polished with a dieapplication, which is ultimately a stain and
then a top coat, or youcan do no die. People are doing
that with some spaces we're working onright now. And then if you wanted
to and you don't have the abilityto maybe access the property with that type
of equipment for the polishing, orif you want to keep it more simple
(47:19):
and maybe a little bit shorter ofa timeframe, just a good stain and
seal is very similar to your polishingprocess to look very very similar, especially
if you do a glossy coat orsomething like that, it really glosses up
a stain and seal project as well. So two really great alternatives for indoor
projects, whether they're commercial or residential, stain and seal or polishing and ceiling.
(47:44):
Now, does the stain and sealharden that concrete the way the polishing
does doesn't quite. It's really goodat protecting, but it does not matter
what you started with. It's waybetter than what you've started with. Again,
that sealant is going to be yourbest option for protection in terms of
keeping things from getting down in theconcrete. Again, but the polishing that
(48:07):
densification process is very different in termsof the treatment of the floor and making
it harder and more durable. We'vetalked about this before and I'm not sure
how much of it, especially thistime of the year, that you do.
But something as simple as say powerwashinga driveway, let's say, yes
that when you go back in thenand add that ceiling, because you have
(48:30):
a couple of different options there whenit comes to ceiling that ceiling, yes,
and that's what again, even fora driveway, even in oh,
I don't know, April around pollenseason, yep. But that keeps it
from getting down yes, right, yeah, it doesn't. It keeps from
getting that down to those pores, and it's so much easier to keep clean
(48:52):
than afterwards just pose it off,I guess, yeah, it's fabulous,
or just a little bit of rainhelps too, but ceiling concret is one
of the best ways to protect it, and so a lot of the DI
wires. In fact, we dogive advice occasionally. We try not to
give too much advice because you don'twant to get in trouble for something that
you didn't do yourself, right,But even folks that just ask us,
(49:14):
hey, I want to do thistype of treatment in myself to my concrete
and I don't know what I'm doing. What do you recommend? We say,
well, we can't really tell youwhat to do, but just make
sure whatever you do you seal itproperly because that is going to extend the
life of whatever you do. Well, let me ask you then. I
mean, and again, this iskind of like you can do a show
talk about investments. Okay, thisis for entertainment purposes only. Okay,
(49:35):
we're not giving out advice here, but yeah, I mean legal disclaimer,
right, what sorts of seals coulddo DIY or use on something like that?
You know, honestly, I don'tknow as much about the Low's and
home depot DIY project materials because wedo pride ourselves on spending a little bit
more on those materials. We've vettedour suppliers. You know, there's there's
(49:58):
plenty of polyurea and polyspartic sealers outthere that we would recommend. The polls
are that those tend to be someof the best, but it does depend
on your project and what you whatyou want. There's a million different things
out there that you can do,and if you're doing, you know,
based on what you are trying todo and the look you're trying to achieve,
(50:21):
the top seiler is gonna be different. There's gonna be you know,
different things that you can put down, and so it kind of depends on
the overall project itself as well. But definitely, I would say if you
do want to do something like whatwe do to your floors, you need
to seal it properly and then youneed to maintain it properly. So we
always recommend cleaning. We have sortof a maintenance cleaning program. We have
(50:43):
one little page we give to ourcustomers for you know, try not to
use any bleach products on it.Try not to use any citrus based cleaners
and solvents because that acid over time, if you continually use it to clean
that surface, it over time itwill eat the top coat off. And
so we send people, you know, just a simple soap and water solution,
even if you have something like antimicrobial or antibacterial or a vinegar based
(51:08):
solution, those are all great waysto just very simply clean your surfaces.
The microfiber push mops are fabulous, yeah and easy, but definitely we do
recommend how you treat that top coatmatters as well. So and again Cordney
event is not giving you advice, just just fortertad purposes, only recommendations.
(51:31):
Is how I hear more people talkabout those microfiber you're great loss and mops
and if it's total people on thisshow, Yeah, variety of does dirt.
Yeah, and they really are mildso and easy, easy to store,
easy to clean, easy to youknow, purchase, you know,
repeats or throwing the wash. Someof them you can just wash and reuse,
(51:53):
by the way, not back forcleaning glasses either, Yeah, true,
right, I guess it's great thatwe figured that out because because that's
been around for glasses for a while, so you don't scratch your lenses,
but you can definitely treat floors nicelythat way as well. So crazy,
ain't it? Yeah? Right? All right? So again to reset the
outdoor stuff because of the elements nowand because of your folks, I mean,
(52:15):
yeah, as well, in theseheated DEXes, we've been having you
know, a little better today thanit was you know earlier in the week,
certainly, but a little better still. But again, above and beyond
that, just the process of howthings need to set and cure. Yeah,
it could be problematic. Yeah, well the materials won't perform. It's
(52:36):
dangerous for the guys. We mighthave rain that would interrupt the project and
really destroy If things get wet likethat, that's not good. But also
it's difficult. People do ask us, well, why can't you start earlier,
because we'd really love to start earlierwhen things happened been so hot earlier
and heat it up yet, Butthe due point to a lot of science
and what we do. If there'stoo much moisture and humidity, if there's
(52:57):
due point that is not far enoughaway from the actual air temperature, we
have to wait for that to burnoff. So sometimes our projects we might
stay a little later in the eveningwhen things cool off in the evening rather
midnight. Listen, I love somenight projects because it's nice and cool.
No we I think last week wewere on a project till about eight o'clock
after the sun went down a littlebit further behind the trees. But now
(53:20):
we've got to say, look indoorprojects for right now, Keep the guys
