(00:03):
Wake up. It gets my daygoing and makes me laugh. I love
it Mac and Schmidty in the morningon Star one oh five point seven sometimes
because I'd get a good feeling. All right, Smitty, let's dive into

(00:23):
some positivity on this Thursday morning. It's feeling good right now and starting a
five point seven and this is justcool on a day kind of like today,
rainy day. But all the wayacross the pond over in Bedfordshire,
Hire, England, Peter Richards andhis wife noticed a couple of guys,
a couple of young men, thatwere standing under the eaves of their little
country cottage as it was an absolutedownpour, and they decided to offer them,

(00:47):
you know, a little dry speedcome on in and welcome them inside
to dry off, have some tea, as you might expect some English people
to do well. They left aceramic square black and white cat with them
as a way of saying thank you. Just a couple of art students at
the time, and so you know, they gladly accepted the cat because it

(01:07):
looked like a pet that they hadrecently lost, named Maggie. So they
held onto this cat and actually woundup striking up a friendship with one of
the gentlemen who they gave shelter toon that day, who turned out to
be none other than Sir David Hockney, the most celebrated artist of the twentieth
century in England. All right.Hockney, by the way, has had

(01:27):
works of art sell for as muchas ninety one million pounds over one hundred
million dollars for some of this guy'swork. And this is when Hockney happened
to be an art student all theway back in nineteen fifty five. This
was one of six cats that hedid, and Richards decided recently it had
been long enough, just about seventyyears, so he put the cat up

(01:49):
for auction, having no idea whatit was going to be valued at.
But let's just say came in sixfigure. Schmidi one hundred and thirty four
thousand dollars. Okay. They metthese guys in nineteen seventy years ago.
Oh okay, okay. I waslike, Wow, that's pretty good for
a ceramic kit. Not okay.He nineteen fifty five, Schmidy gives them

(02:09):
shelter winds up getting this gift ofa ceramic cat on because it looked like
a cat that they had recently lost, and you have to have it with
them on that day. Seventy yearslater, he is oxying it off one
hundred and thirty four thousand dollars.Richard says, you know he's in his
nineties now, He's like, youknow, it was the right time to
sell, and now I can helpthe younger generations of my family, all
because of that one rainy afternoon. You always pay kindness to strangers. There's

(02:32):
your karma. A home in ComstockPark is taking Halloween to a whole new
level. I'm telling you, yougotta take the kids over to this.
It's all from the mind of artistJennifer Dunahey, who has been doing spooky
attractions at her home for the lastfifteen years and has now been elevated to

(02:52):
a national level. See this year, the theme is the Haunting of story
Book Hollow. The entire theme isa haunted fairy tale village and it caught
the eye of the ABC show TheGreat Halloween Fright Fight. The entire family
was on this past Sunday's episode, and talking to wood TV, she said,

(03:13):
the entire experience is wild. Ohmy goodness, so being on The
show was quite an experience. Itwas It was a lot of hork and
it was really stressful. It's kindof a rollercoaster. There were like really
great moments about it. Filming nightwas amazing. I cut the foam to
fit and then I heat shape ita heat form it giving us a little

(03:34):
inside look there. Jennifer knows whatshe's doing too. She started setting up
Halloween displays when she was only elevenat her parents' house. She said it
was really cool. The show's actuallyhosted by Michigan native Carter oaster House,
and not only did the family wantthis experience for their kids and all of
their neighbors, but it happens toraise money for the Humane Society of West

(03:57):
Michigan as well. Donna Heat tellsWood there's one main reason, and she
continues to do this. My hopeis to share a little bit of magic
and escapism. Good boy, gooay, And she does exactly that.
I'll throw the video up at WestMichigan Star dot com so you can see
this for yourself. There's even afire breathing dragon. This woman is unbelievable.
She's had a couple of entries andart prize she's so good and doing

(04:19):
it and donating to the Humane Societyat the same time. It's just awesome.
Feeling good is here to highlight wonderfulpeople right here in our community,
just like which Smitty just shared it. We'll do it again for this morning,
nine twenty on starlettl five point sevenMovies, music and all the gossip
in one place. It's the celebritiescoopon Star one oh five point seven.

(04:41):
Well, not surprisingly, Justin Timberlakefeeling some heat amid Britney Spears's new book
The Woman In Me. But atleast for his in Sync brothers, they're
gonna have his back. Sources saythat Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, Chris
Kirkpatrick and JC Shise have nothing butlove for Justin and plan to support him
through it all. Now, thetwo or the five excuse me, have

(05:02):
been close for about twenty five years. The boys say they know everything about
Justin, They know deep and ASARTIis a good guy and are happy to
be back performing with him despite allthis negativity. Now that's not necessarily going
to be the case. I'm inSorry, Sorry Sariy and zinc fans.
Justin's apparently really, really focused onhis new solo single, the album,

(05:23):
and a tour that he has preparedfor next year, which his manager says
is not going to be affected byBritney's memoir. But here's something very interesting.
Justin has been quietly removing some clubappearances that were set for early next
year tied to the release of hissingle and album. So it does make
you wonder if he's at least alittle nervous about how loyal his fans will

(05:44):
remain. Yeah, and those InSyncdudes, I mean they know where the
bodies are buried. MINDI they wereat a front row seat basically for all
this drama live visit was happening.Yeah. Speaking of Britney, girlfriend is
raaken in the streaming numbers check thisout. According to newly real data,
Britney's music library received over seven pointone million streams in the last twenty four

(06:09):
hours. I'm talking big ones likeBritney's album in the Zone, Circus,
even Baby One More Time and Oopsidedid It Again. Her og stuff is
seeing massive, massive clicks and thismemoir is going to make her some serious
dough. Not only did she geta twelve and a half million dollar advance
on the book. She is setfor twenty five percent of net profits from

(06:31):
the book, which has already soldalmost half a million copies. Remember this
dropped on Tuesday, and they're sayingthat it's looking like at least a million
are going to be sold. Imean, it's pretty ridiculous, and the
Britney Fever is maybe at its mostintense point. And I hope in years
at least I hope that she isin a place mentally where all of this

(06:53):
added stuff and and exposure is agood thing for or at least that she's
got somebody around her that can helpher with all this stuff. I think
that's what we're all hoping for it. Finally, it's really sad news to
report actor Eric Jensen, best knownfor his role as doctor Stephen Edwards on
The Walking Dead, has been diagnosedwith stage four colorectal cancer. The announcement

(07:14):
came from his family. They setup a go Fundme page saying that it
has fantastasized to his liver. Butthe actor is quote young and strong,
even working as a director and awriter throughout his treatment, so they have
very high hopes for this. Butit's just really sad news because it was
only a year and a half agothat Eric survived miraculously by the way,
a brain aneurysm, so he's justnot been dealt a really great second cards

(07:39):
lately. Cancer sucks. It's justsad. All of your celeb scoop at
West Michigan Star dot com. Goodmorning too. It's Mack and Schmide.
And if these last few days ofwarm weather have you loving life and enjoying
it, well, get ready bugleup, because it's going to turn fast.
And I feel like it's been quitea few years since we've had this
issue where we've had the S wordin the forecast for trick or treating.

(08:00):
Last year it was warm, theyear before that it was warm. I
can look back at pictures of mykids trigger treating almost all the way back
to Will being like two, andit was pretty decent weather for actual tricker
treating. That does not look tobe the case this Tuesday. If you
are planning to trigger treat on actualHalloween, the high is going to be
like mid thirties, and all ofour meteorologists are warning that there could be

(08:22):
some flakes flying. And it justtakes you back to your childhood, doesn't
it the best Halloween costumes for asnowsuit, because how many of us had
such high hopes for the great costumewe had picked out, we were so
excited about, and then nobody sawit because you had to put on a
coat and snowpants over it. Mymom would talk about this when I was
a teenager, when I would goout in my costumes that and not wear

(08:43):
a coat because I feel like itwould ruin the effect of a costume,
and she goes, it was somuch easier when you were younger. Yeah,
and you were just a teenage mutantNinja turtleed in that giant costume.
I was a teenage mutant Ninja Turtlein three out of four years as a
kid, I was ever Ninja Turtleexcept for Donna Till the smart One,
Sorry he was the name. Iwent as an angel, I went as

(09:03):
a ghost, I went as afairy, and then I went as the
tooth Fairy because they were all theexact same costume. And I loved this
because I put it up on Facebook, the best costume for that cold,
snowy weather for your kids, andeverybody said so much, Amanda the classic
sheet ghost, because all you hadto do was put it over the massive

(09:24):
amount of layers you were gonna haveto put on your kids. Because my
son is going as a spooky, scary skeleton. And when I bought the
costume, I sized up because I'mlike, you know what, he's gonna
have to be wearing a coat andsnow pants. I know it's coming.
I know it's coming, so I'mprepared for him. My daughter, however,
going as mini mouse, that's justnot it's not gonna work. She

(09:46):
got to go to trunk retreat atschool last weekend, so I'll just shore
those pictures later in life. Becauseshe is definitely going to be in her
huge purple north face and some reallyand there's no waymen if it those are
the costume. The good news isthat maybe you just paint that black SCHMIDDI,
you put the ears on her andshe could wear her coat. People
still know she's very lovely. Yeah, I'm actually going to attach the ears
to the ear muff, says she'sgonna have to wear because right your kids

(10:09):
are going to be in hats andgloves and the whole thing. So it's
interesting, what perfect timing. Googlejust dropped their top costumes of twenty twenty
three Google searches. It's not surprisingthe number one is Barbie. It's be
a lot of Barbies this year.We also have Spider Man, a very
big one. Will really wanted togo as Spidy the Disney plus kids.
That's a little more appropriate, butthis one was really interesting. Princess is

(10:33):
still super high up on the list, and the most searched place for Princess
was Alpina. So I'm like,I hope you're sizing up in Alpina because
if we're getting flakes down here inGrand Rapids, you don't stand a chance
going as Princess Jasmine this year. No, you got a forecast of solid
candy haul in about three inches ofsnow is what I'm betting for Halloween up

(10:54):
north this year. Yeah, mykids have adopted some warmer costumes this year,
just through happenstance, but it worksout nicely. My daughter is an
eminem. You could be nice androll. Yeah, we are the coades
with your friends, and you canalso make like a fleecy inside of an
M and M costume. Glad touse the term appropriate too. A little
more appropriate for your son because myothers. My son's costume maybe not appropriate

(11:16):
for all, he's Homer Simpson. He's Homer Simon. You can layer that
up exactly, wear a coat underneaththe meg and just like Homer. So
it's out perfectly for staying warm forthe for Halloween. I love Shannon.
She wrote sean white snowboarder. I'mliterally just gonna dress my son in winter

(11:37):
gear and be like, I don'tknow, dude, tell people you're Tony
Hawk. And he started to hitslopes like with Theater of the Mind,
my guy six six one six fourfive eight one five seven. I know
we've got some solid ones out there. Best Halloween costume for the potentially cold,
maybe snowy trigger treat weather we havecoming up on Tuesday, Mack and

(11:58):
Schmidty. Third, that means it'stime to throw it back with what year
was it here? Schmidty And thisis awesome. I mean, if you
watch a Christmas story every Christmas,I feel like you should watch these movies
every Halloween. We do in myfamily. LMCU Ballpark becomes Boo Park.
This weekend they're doing a double featureof hocus Pocus one and two, and

(12:18):
you're going, if you tell uswhat you're was it drumming. My pain
with this thing you singing? Justshut you, oka, Missa. I
like the way you work, dodig If we make this coat, it

(12:46):
would be as if I were wearingyour dog. Yes, another count,
actually I think that was the sameone. All right, I'm giving a
bonus hint here because one of mymost favorite movies of all time is in
there, and I'm just gonna say, Dobray six one six, four,

(13:07):
five eight one o five seven callersseven, you tell us what year was
it? You're going to the hocusPocus double feature at llmc U Park Domino,
Fine Point Seven's Mack and SCHMIDI callit number seven is getting a double
dose of hocus Pocus this year,Schmitty, What year was it? In
my pain? With this thing yousinging? Just shut you, okay,

(13:37):
Missa. I like the way youwork. If we make this coat,
it would be as if you werewearing your dog. Yes, another cow,

(13:58):
actually, I think that was thesame one. Some of your favorites
in there, for sure, Schmidty. But let's see here. Hi,
who's this? Hi? This isSarah? Sarah? Were you at this
morning? Grand rapid? Okay,Sarah? What year was that? I'm
gonna say nineteen ninety six. Oh, congratulations, Sarah gave you a ninety

(14:20):
six. It was two things. It was Jerry Maguire and this Swice Girl,
not Twister. Tell me Twister waslike one of your most favorite movie.
This has been a Twister weather kindof week. You gotta watch Twister.
Well, I do like that too, but that wasn't the one that
gave it. Well. Awesome, you and the family are doing something really
cool this weekend. You're gonna goto MCU Ballpark this Saturday and see Hocus

(14:43):
Pocus one and two on the field. Awesome. That's exciting. Well,
say hello to the Sanderson sisters forus. Okay, absolutely, clearly I
was going too hard on the Twister. I'm sorry about that, Sarah,
no judgment. I'm just obsessed withthem movie. Oh too hard on the
Twister? Not possible, I willsay too. I'm surprised that there aren't
more children more millennials specifically named Thackeray, with that movie being so huge in

(15:05):
the nineties, I'm surprised Thackeray didn'thave that and have a moment. It's
this celebrity scoop on Star one ohfive point seven, another part of Britney's
new memoir that's really fascinating fans iswhat she's describing as a paranormal experience.
She said she felt something otherworldly whiledriving through the Arizona Desert, describing the

(15:28):
eerie feeling as God, maybe ahigher power, or at least a paranormal
experience. She said the feeling cameover her when she was speeding through the
desert in a convertible with a friendshe apparently was escaping to Arizona and a
mentally recover from her breakup with justinTimberlake. She said that all of a
sudden, the sky overhead was fullof stars. They were driving with the

(15:50):
top down, and the wind wasblowing in a certain way that made a
very eerie feeling settle over her.She says that she actually stopped herself from
asking her friend do you believe evenaliens? And then it was a couple
minutes later that her friend to hearnto her and said, do you feel
that? What is that? Now? Brittany says, I can't put my
finger on what we felt out therein the desert that night, but we

(16:10):
felt at that moment what we needed. We were so spiritually open and so
raw. It showed us that therewas definitely more than just what we can
see. I've always actually wanted togo to a desert to have an experience.
I don't know if it's aliens.I don't know if it's paranormal.
I just have always wanted to kindof drive top down a desert because I'm
sure you do get just a verybig picture kind of view of things,

(16:33):
which you know, good for her. You know, Jim Morrison used to
go out to the desert to seethings too. Schmitdia, I don't know
that's the same thing. Travis Kelseyknows that he is definitely doing the right
thing when it comes to dating TaylorSwift. When your head coach gives it
a thumbs up, that's right.Travis and Jason dropped the latest episode of
their podcast yesterday where Jason brought upwhat Coach read just happened to say it

(16:59):
his latest press conference. Not onlyis social media noticing it, but it
appears a big red is noticing itbecause he waited and in his postgame press
conference, coach Readman what a guy. He was asked about your big game
and his response was Kelsey keeps gettingbetter with time. Taylor can stay around

(17:19):
all she wants. Yeah, butTravis said, man, listen, when
you're getting big reds approval and blessings, you know you're doing something right.
I mean, I gotta I lovethat they call Andy Reid big Red.
That's just awesome. I love thetwo of them together and really quick controversial
opinion. I think Jason's the funnierbrother. And finally, Jack Black delighting

(17:42):
fans with an impromptu strip tease ata big fundraiser in La last night.
It was called The give Bacular Spectacular. It was a variety show featuring a
host of different stars that were allhoping to raise emergency relief funds for both
you and non union crew members whoare suffering financially because of these Hollywood strikes.

(18:04):
He stripped down to his boxers anddecided to go a la Taylor Swift
for his little acts. I mean, the tenacious d stylings of a Taylor

(18:29):
Swift anti hero while in your undiesis really unmatched. I gotta tell you,
honestly, Jack Black is a treasureman. The dude is just endlessly
challenged. Yeah, I've got thevideo up for you with your scoop at
West Michigan Star dot com. Allright, stellin on five point seven.

(21:30):
this is so cool. I feellike this is a double dose of positivity
this morning, because quite honestly,Lions fans, you'll admit it to Since
when are national networks giving any kindof happiness when it comes to the Lions.
Well, that's very different this year. And Good Morning America has jumped
on that Kolaid bandwagon, surprising aMetro Detroit family with Lions tickets to this

(21:56):
Monday Night's game against the Vegas Raiders. But it's so strange because you've never
been to a game together as afamily, a least not this season.
Right now, Rory, what doyou think we should do about that?
Than you, Rory might have anidea. Oh, the entire family all

(22:18):
of the year, and can seethe touchdown nance because I heard there's a
really fair pushdown dance. That's awesome. Oh, that was a very excited
Pardonani family interviewed by ABC's Jess Simson. Of course, Lyons mascot Rory on
hand with the surprise tickets, AndI just love this because I honestly cannot
remember the last time so many peoplewere so excited about this team to the

(22:42):
point where they're doing national surprises forthis, and I just knew Lions fans
everywhere would really love to hear that. Yeah, we're already up to what
our second primetime game of the year, not even halfway done yet pretty awesome
too. Lion's going to debut thosebrand new helmets, the throwback logo.

(23:03):
him on Sunday. You'll get himin Monday Primetime. Let's hope they all
make us feel good Monday night,Chaddy, this is pretty crazy. Last
Saturday, Berdina co seats she wasdriving down the highway there in Gracemount,
Oklahoma with her granddaughter known as Beans, and two friends. So four of
them in the car, together withan oncoming van crosses over the center line

(23:23):
foreseen Bernadine's car off the road downa forty foot canyon. It flipped several
times, so bad, in fact, that the lid the top of the
car, the roof peeled back likea can opener, and the car was
on fire. One of the friendswas able to crawl out and climb to
the top of the hill, whereshe tried to flag down vehicles. Several

(23:45):
passed before a local resident, CordCoffee, happened to see the crash and
rush to help. First he callednine to one one, then he went
down the slope to rescue the trappassengers, including little Beans, who he
managed to get out. The lastperson in the car was Bernardina, who
barely managed to get out before thecar exploded. And then she was still

(24:08):
gonna have a very hard time comingto the top of the hill. This
is actually Cord and Beans telling kfo R the dramatic scene that was unfolding
what she got out the car.The car blew and I said, well,
girlfriend, we're gonna have to becauseit's you know, we're going to
burn in this canyon if we don't. Thank you for seven my grandma.
I'm really glad they're okay, andthat I'm really glad that they trusted me,

(24:30):
because you know, I'm just somecountry bumpkin running down the hill going
trust me, I'm gonna get youout of here. You know, coming
down the hill sounds like a countryBumpkin's exactly who you want, exactly and
a hero for sure. All fourof them did sustain minor injuries, but
everybody's gonna be okay thanks to thequick actions of a random passer by cold
coffee. But man, just anintense scene for sure. Feeling good comes
