Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's start one oh five point seven. It is West
Michigan's Christmas station. I'm schmidty on a Friday too. It's
extra holly jolly up in here. I want to talk
about something. I guess it would be kind of a
parent win. You know, we do parent confessions, which is
generally a fail every single week on Wednesdays. But I
was so impressed with my kids. We have been in

(00:20):
the middle of conference season parent teacher conferences, and we
had my sons a week and a half ago. He's
in second grade, and then yesterday we had my daughter
and she's in preschool and she actually started at a
brand new preschool this year. We moved and she had
been at a different school for twos and threes and
then preschool four she's at like whole new area, whole

(00:43):
new school, teacher, kids, the whole thing. So, you know,
as a parent, you're always very hopeful that it's been
a pretty easy transition. Kids tend to be very resilient.
But both my son and daughter had a very similar
message from their teachers. And I always go in maybe
it's my type a personality. I want to know, you know,
how are they doing academically? How are they doing socially?

(01:03):
Are they keeping up? You? Are we you know, moving
forward in the right direction, especially for my daughter, because
the big conversation will be now is she ready for
kindergarten next year? And I need to take a step
back and just chill out because one of the biggest
messages about both of my kids is how kind and
inclusive they are. In fact, both the second grade teacher

(01:26):
and preschool teacher said something very similar, which was they're
just a friend to everyone. And I really had to
sit in that for a minute last night after we
got done, because I thought that is stuff we have
tried to teach, and I feel like it's so important
to start that young. You know, nobody wants the bully,
nobody wants to feel left out, something that we can
all relate to. We've had it happen once or twice

(01:47):
in our life, I'm sure, but to know that my
kids are actively doing that, especially my daughter, like I
love her to death, she could be a little feral,
as the second borns tend to be, so to hear
them say, she is just literally a friend to everyone.
My son had a couple of new kids join last
over the like the last month or so, and you
know he's always inviting them into his games or making

(02:07):
sure they have a partner, and you know, parents, I
just feel like we need to take a second and
pat ourselves on the back and be like, you know what,
we're doing it, We are making it, We're we might
just be doing an okay job and not screwing this
thing up like we all think we are. You know,
that was kind of like an early Christmas gift for
me who knew parent teacher conferences. It's what was going

(02:29):
to turn out to be just something that made me
feel really good. And I bet there's something you want
to brag about your kids with six one six, four
five eight one oh five seven, something that has dawned
on you as a parent and you went, oh wow,
this is it. You know, there's so much work that
goes into parenting. It is the toughest job out there.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
And when you.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
Get a little bit of that feedback and you're like, yeah,
maybe we are on the right trail. Give me a
call four or five, eight, one oh five seven, Good morning, Christine.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Oh yeah, definitely. I love being friends with my kid
to build trust. It's almost like you can be a
kid again too. And live through their eyes. Like in
this generation, I am a big advocate of being friends
with your.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
Kids really and it's just been something that like you
and your kids have totally loved.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Yeah, And I mean it's like you learn from your
kids too. It's sort of like, you know, it's a
good relationship, it's a good exchange.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
So you know what's crazy is when you learn things
from your kids, isn't it like not even just how
kind you should be, but like the world through a
kid's eyes. I'm just obsessed. It's so great. So here
you go, Happy Friday. We're all doing a great job
parenting West Michigan's Christmas station. We're talking about those proud
parent moments. Hey, good morning Rod.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Yeah, my son's been struggling in school and you know,
he finally got his first A. So we're celebringing his
little victory.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
That's amazing. Congratulations little man. All right, here is tso

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
