Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning, Thank you for listening to Community Access. My
guest this morning is doctor Abbas Mohammadi from Colombia Dental.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Good morning doctor, Good morning Alison.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
So for those who don't know about Columbia Dental, where
are you located and what do you do? As an overview,
we are.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
A multi specialty practice and we do have an in
house laboratory. So basically Columbia Dental it called an integrated
practice that having all the dental specialties and does not
send the work to outside the laboratory, so everything happened
(00:37):
within the Columbia Dental. We are a part of twelve
robost networking location from Norwalk to Enfield and from New
Milfair to Waterbury, Unmanchester, so we cover every corner of
these states and we're doing that mean we started twenty
(00:59):
five years ago and over time we expanded to twelve locations.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Wonderful and again, if you'd like to find out more
about Columbia Dental, just go to Columbia Dental dot com.
Today we're going to talk about some things, but especially insurance.
What is the difference between dental insurance and medical insurance is.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
A big, big difference. I do believe that the definition
of the insurance for the dental is a kind of
wrong definition somehow, I would say, is kind of misleading
because dental insurance, they're not really the insurance. They are
(01:43):
more like a coupon. They give everybody like a thousand
dollars or two thousand dollars benefit for a year and
then it max out. So imagine in one ear, you
need some dental work to be done and your emergency.
That's the reason people they get insurance because uncertainly, you
(02:07):
don't know what would happen to you, and it's going
to be expensive and you cannot afford it. But unfortunately,
dental insurance they call themselves insurance, but they give just
a certain amount of the benefits. So you might need
fifteen thousand dollars of work one year, and the following
(02:29):
year you just need to have a cleaning done. Okay.
Their real life doesn't work that way, Okay, So for
that reason, and people, unfortunately, because of this name and
over the years, people they come and they say, oh,
you might insurance pay. They have the expectations the insurance pay,
(02:52):
and they get kind of disappointed when they come to
the practice and say that really this is not the
insurance they just got kind of a coupon on under
you know, on their pocket or whatever. But that's besides
the point. And I do believe this insurance company they
(03:13):
make a lot of money out of this premium. I
did have a patience that had deltal dental insurance and
was paying eighty three dollars amount and they give him
thousand dollars for a year. So you say, by the
(03:34):
time that you pay the premium, they give you the
same amount of the money. And it's not just one
insurance company, unfortunatelyes. This goes all over the board. But
now besides that, dental insurance they give certain amount of
the benefits. So the patient they need to understand that
(03:58):
if they don't use their benefit, they will lose it.
And insurance company they put more money even hunt their
pocket because you know, it just gets not use. So
our suggestion to the patient before the end of the
year to make the appointment and we can do a
(04:18):
comprehensive approach. What we do, especially end of the year,
we divide the treatment plan between this year and the
following year, so this way you maximize the benefit. Certain
things we can do at the end of the year
that we cannot do it at the beginning of the year.
(04:40):
For instance, a patient need a root cannel. Every tooth
that has a root cannel eventually going to need a crown.
So you cannot do a root cannel in January or
February until the pasion come back next year, I will
do your crown, okay, but yes, you can do that
in November or December, the kind of and tell okay,
(05:04):
come back in you know a few weeks or a
month and do your curn next year. Okay. Again, one
thousand dollars and two thousand dollars still is a lot
of money. Why troid waste and why put it in
the pocket of the insurance companies? You know. So this
is you know premium they pay or the company they're pay.
(05:27):
Why not using it?
Speaker 1 (05:29):
That's wonderful. So you actually help them maximize their dental benefits.
You look at their situation, what they may need, what
their insurance looks like, and then you're like, okay, this
would be the best way to get the work done,
but to also save you some money.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Correct, excellent.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
So what is the latest news that Columbia Dental at
this moment.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Well, the exciting news we have a new prosto dantist
that is starting in our water Very location and so
we are very excited that we can put that type
of specialty in our water Very location. Although we do

Speaker 1 (06:25):
For those who don't know what a prosto dantist is

training and they get expert in fabrication prostestes. Now prostestes
can be a bridge, partial denture, implant restoration, implant restoring
(06:55):
any damaged tieth So they are a cosmetic dentists. Is
the part of the cover that like Laminade, when these
are people that they are, you know experience that people
that they have major rehabilitation. Let's say all the tieve
or world down. You need to restore all the pattive.
