In this episode of pop Culture Weekly, I talk with music legend Swizz Beats
as well as his son this SerDean, all about their brand new show
on Hulu called Drive with Swizbeats.Let's go Welcome to pop Culture Weekly with
Kyle McMahon from my Heart Radio, your pop culture news, views, reviews
and celebrity interviews on all the movies, TV, music and pomp culture u

(00:23):
Crabe Weekly. Here's Kyle McMahon.Hello, and welcome to pop Culture Weekly
with Kyle McMahon. I of courseam Kyle McMahon, and I am excited
about today's show because I sit downwith the incredible music wonder kind, wonder

(00:46):
kid, wonder kin, whatever theword is. This is why I don't
use big words. I sit downwith Swizz Beats, hip hop legend and
car collector and his son Nazir Dean, who is also known as note Arcado,
and we talk about their brand newseries on Hulu called Drive with Swizz

(01:06):
Beats. The series is really good. I you know, got to watch
the first season and I was reallysurprised at how emotional it is. How
you know, it's not just acar show. Honestly, it really isn't
it is a series about connection andfamily and that just so happens to revolve

(01:29):
in this series around cars. Soyou know, basically, in Drive with
Swiss Beats, Swizz and Nazir goto different car loving communities like New York
and southern California and of course Houstonand Japan and Atlanta and even Saudi Arabia

(01:51):
actually, and they talk with thesecommunities about the car community and the connection
and the family that it. Isound like Vin Diesel right now, continuing
to talk about family. But youknow, each of these places has a
unique car culture and you know,no matter what the background is, their

(02:13):
love for cars is what brings themtogether. So it's really really an awesome
series that I highly recommend you watch. It is exclusively available on Hulu today.
And let's just hop right into myinterview with Swizz Beats and the c
R Dan Hey. First of all, thank you both so much for speaking

(02:34):
with me. I really appreciate it. Drive is so awesome and and this
question is for both of you. From you know what I gather, I
would say, ultimately, yes,it's about cars and all, but it
really seems as more than that, deeper than that. It's at its heart,
it's more about community. Would youboth agree with that? Definitely yes.

(02:54):
And the reason I say that isbecause or we say that, is
because every where we went, wedove deep into the community and exploring their
creativity, exploring what drove them. And everyone was amazing and their own way
was very specific and they put theirwhole life into their craftsmanship and it's amazing

(03:16):
to see. I love that. And did you what was surprising about,
you know, going to these variousplaces and jumping into these cultures. What
was the most surprising thing for bothof you about as it were filming Drive.
I think the most thing that surprisedme was how much was going on
right in our backyards that we didn'tknow about. You know, like in

(03:38):
La you would think low riders, but you know, the hot ride scene
out here is incredible. You know, in Japan you would think that there
was only drifting with the lowrider scenewas incredible, you know, and I'm
like, wow, Like they havelike a whole low rider culture in Japan,

(03:59):
you know, from the ain't tothe hydraulics to everything. And it
was just amazing to see the juxtapositionof what you thought versus what it is
and which made it a discovery andI hope the viewers would love to see
that as well. I love that, And how about for you and Asaire.
I just love the fact that everysingle place we went to you could
expect the unexpected and the show Driveit was really like shot in an unorthodox

(04:28):
way, because like my father's saying, it's not like we did the norm
it's not like we did they expected. It's actually the opposite. And that's
what made it so fun because itwas organic and then we got to experience
that firsthand, like we knew whatwe were walking into, but we really
didn't like at certain points, andthat made it so much more of an
adventure. I love that. Whatdid you think is the biggest lesson that

(04:53):
you learned filming Drive? The biggestlesson I learned doing Drive was definitely,
definitely, definitely, if you're gonnago fast, you gotta know how fast
you actually want to go, andyou gotta you gotta, you gotta know
what drives you. You gotta knowthe nucleus of what inspires you for you

(05:17):
to actually put your mechanism of yourmind and your soul to use in the
right way. And hearing so manypeople talk about their passion was inspired me
on a whole different level. Iknow it my dad as well, and
we were blessed to talk to theseamazing people. I love that. And
how about for you. I thinkwhat surprised me the most was people's passion

(05:43):
to just go to the extreme oftheir dreams. You know, some people
was making engines with their hands, some people with three D print engines,
just for this one hundred dollar trophy. Then I realized, wait a minute,
it's not even about the trophy. The trophy just symbolized the completion of
the mission. It didn't it didn'tit didn't mean what. It didn't have

(06:06):
the power that we think it had. You know, it had a different
power that was bigger than the power. And so to see people go so
hard spend their lives, you know, it was more it wasn't about them
spending the money. It was moreabout them being together with their community for
long periods of time. And thenthat community finished the mission and then you

(06:27):
know, went to a transition togo get this trophy. But all they
would do is come back and startanother mission again, right, So that
was that was the drive I was. I was impressed by people's drive for
real, for both of you. When someone goes to sit down to watch
Drive with Swiss Beats, besides itbeing so entertaining and all, what do
you hope that people take away fromit? I just would love for them

(06:50):
to get up and have it fuelthem, you know, have it inspire
them. I want them to feelmotivated after they watched. And uh,
and and we had the pre likewhen we do the preview and we've had
a couple, that's what we saw. So like that seeing that was really
really really giving, Like that's whatactually brought it to life so much more

(07:14):
because it brought life to the peoplewho was watching it. And I thought
that was like really awesome. Ijust want people to walk away motivated.
I want people to walk away educated. I want people to walk away more
for family orientated and more global minded, thinking about travel more, thinking about
exploring more. And we put allof those ingredients in the show on purpose

(07:35):
to spark spark your senses to thinkbeyond the norm and you know, maybe
get a new hobby. Maybe goto Houston and want to go mud racing.
Maybe you know, go to amonster jam and see the monster trucks
and you know, just open upwhat you might see might not see every
day, and just give you theblueprint to it. And in these six

(07:56):
episodes, I love, love, love that, and I think you both
have accomplished that with Drive. Iknow I now have some things on my
list that I want to go doafter seeing it, and as I watched
the series, and I think you'regoing to get people doing that all over
the world. Thank you both somuch for your time. Yes, thank

(08:16):
you Swizz Beats, Nasir, andthank you for speaking with me about Drive
with Swizz Beats streaming exclusively on Huluright now. Swiz Beats in the Sudan.
I can't believe that I talked tonot only in air, but Swiz
Beats. I have loved him forever. He is a hip hop legend,

(08:37):
songwriting legend, producer legend. Heis incredible and what a nice guy to
and his son is amazing as well. So loved that chat with these very
talented men. Go watch Drive withSwizz Beats right now on Hulu. It
is exclusively available on Hulu and asI said, you can watch it right

(09:00):
now links in the show notes. And that's it for this episode. We're
going to be starting to get We'regoing to be starting to get back.
We're going to start to be gettingback whatever we're going to get back to
