Welcome to another inspiring edition of hydration with Heart, brought
to you by Once Upon a Coconut, the all natural
hydration choice that keeps you refreshed and feeling your best. Today,
we have an extraordinary duo who exemplified passion, perseverance and
the power of love. Shawnie Kish, a Canadian three time
Juno nominee whose voice has taken the music industry by storm,

(04:09):
and her beautiful wife, Jen Kish, an Olympic bronze medalist
who has shown the world the fierce spirit of rugby. Recently,
these two trailblazers embarked on the beautiful journey of motherhood,
welcoming their beautiful baby girl Harley into the world. They
joined me today to chat motherhood, career and how they
balance it all. Shanni and Jen Kish, Welcome to the show, Superstars. Yep,

(04:33):
thanks for having us. I'm so excited to feature you both. Shannie,
I'm going to start with you. So, you've had such
a powerful impact in the music scene. What was it
like transitioning into motherhood but still balancing your thriving career.

Speaker 5 (04:47):
I just had a writing session in La and I
was saying, it has completely altered the way that I
think about myself, my journey differently. I wrote this like
love song. I wrote a Christmas song for Harley. I
wrote like I'm Softer. I signed like I'm I want.

(05:09):
You know, music's all about healing for me, and it
has been that, but it's it's been about getting out
traumas and things like that. But recently it's it's I'm softer.
I find it's, you know, gentler and softer and filled
with so much love and light and joy. So it's
definitely changed my music writing for sure.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
Now I'm gonna pivot to you, Jen, from dominating the
rugby field to now being a full time mom. What
was the biggest shift for you mentally and physically, And
have you found any similarities between training for the Olympics
and for parents of motherhood.

Speaker 6 (05:43):
I'm gonna be honest, like before, before Shawnee, I didn't
want kids, you know, and I was very athlete mentality
and putting my entire being into my sport, you know.
So when I retired I and I met Shanie, my
life really changed for the better.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
You know.

Speaker 6 (06:00):
I went through a depression after I retired, didn't really
know what who I was outside of sport. So I
met Shawannie and then I was like, man, I would
locked out a.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Family with you, you know, and we had Harley, and it.

Speaker 6 (06:10):
Really did change my world because, you know, it just
brought it filled that that missing piece that that was
missing from my heart for you know, since since I
was young, and it's the piece that I was always
searching for, but I didn't know I needed. Shawnee was
supposed to carry and then I ended up carrying instead.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
And I basically.

Speaker 6 (06:33):
Was treating my body as if I was training for
the Olympics, but with knowing that I had hardly inside me,
I wanted to do everything that I possibly could do
to benefit you know, her coming into this world, and
so you know, it's the commitment.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
It's the selflessness too.

Speaker 6 (06:48):
It's you know, I I uh, breast speed.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
And it's not.

Speaker 6 (06:51):
Something that I liked to do. It's not something I
ever imagined wanting to, you know, wanting to do, because
I never even imagine being pregnant.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
But for the betterment of.

Speaker 6 (07:01):
Her, you know, you do those things, so you're you're selfless,
and I yeah, it's definitely.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
Been a journey. Of course, it's so important. And ninety
two percent of athletes say the discipline from their sport
helps them in other areas of life. So I bet
it's it's coming in handy during those early morning diaper changes. Now,
your marriage is such a beautiful testament to love and partnership.
How did your how did your paths cross? And what
drew you to each other? Was it love at first

(07:29):
sight or did it take some convincing? For me, it
was like a love at first sight. It was definitely
a like attraction met first s, I'll tee you that much.
But for my protect but Jen was this person that
was in depth and I wasn't quite used to that vulnerability.
I kind of throughout my lights had built up these
walls to kind of guard and protect myself.

Speaker 5 (07:51):
And the thing that fascinating me about you was how
in dense you were. And I just loved the conversations
that we had, And the more we got to know
each other, the more I realized we have so much
in common with how we grew up and how we
protect ourselves and and kind of the things that we
struggle with and how we help each oly with that,
and our spirits spoke on this level that was deeper

(08:11):
than like a physical connection.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
Wow, you guys were so meant to be. You found
you found each other, and you should be so grateful
for that, because not everybody finds their soulmate, and the
pieces of the puzzle don't seem to fit for most
people that I talk to. But it's very refreshing to
see that you guys have found each other. Now, Jen,
as an LGBTQ couple in the public eye, I mean,
you both have become role models for many, that's without

(08:36):
a doubt. But how important is it for you to
use your platform to inspire and advocate for the LGBTQ community,
especially now as a parent. Yeah, it's super important.

Speaker 6 (08:46):
You know, we are very transparent online with our journey
with regards to fertility to our parenting, you know, and
there's a lot of hate out there still against you know,
people within ourmmunity, especially when you bring a child into
the world.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
You know, there's this societal.

Speaker 6 (09:06):
Pressure to have a mom and a dad, and if
you don't have one or the other, then the child's
going to be like, you know, roorally screwed up, which
is entirely such a false narrative.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
And so, you know, for us being so.

Speaker 6 (09:18):
Transparent online and standing up for what we believe in,
you know, we want to reach the next generation who
you know is growing into themselves within the community and
wanting them to know that you can have a family
and and you look like that, and it can look
like this, and it's really important that they.

Speaker 3 (09:36):
Know that your love story is so inspiring, especially for
young LGBTQ individuals who may be struggling to find their
place in the world. So representation matters, and you both
are shining examples of what's possible. Now, Jen, you carried
your beautiful baby girl, which is such a special and
intimate experience. But maybe Shawnie, could you share a bit
about the decision making process that led to this choice,

(09:59):
and how you navigated that conversation and what were maybe
the most important factors for you as a couple.

Speaker 5 (10:04):
I remember, you know, I had just released new music
and I remember coming to GEN and I was originally
supposed to carry, and I went to GEN and I
just broke down and cried because I didn't know if
it was going to be a possibility for me, which
meant that maybe our family wouldn't you know, have a chance,
and maybe we wouldn't have this opportunity, and I would

(10:27):
have had to accepted that. But Jen, just you know
that it was quickly like, well, then I'll do it,
like I want to stamily more than anything, and I'll
do it. If this is the way that it needs
to be done, then let's go and let's do it.
So it was just, you know, we kind of came
to that naturally because of that reason, because then I

(10:49):
wasn't sure. I was just not sure if it was
something that I was my body was gonna it would
come to fruition.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
Yeah, I could totally. I can totally empathize with that.
Deciding who would carry, you know, the baby is such
a personal and profound decision for any couple, and it
really speaks to the trust and understanding between you both.
And I love how Jen, you stepped up to the
plate without a doubt, and I imagine this journey has
deepened your connection even further, bring you closer as partners
and now as parents. How is having a baby change

(11:18):
the dynamic of your relationship, Jen, any surprises along the
way or are you both pretty much in sync when
it comes to parenting.

Speaker 6 (11:24):
It's changed our marriage and that says of time together,
quality time together. You know, we've wanted, you know, a
baby for so long, and so you know, she currently
sleeps in our room because you know, we're everything that
she does for like googling it, you know, and.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
So it's like, well, she just at her shops.

Speaker 5 (11:42):
We're worried about reading the fever and so we're like,
we need to keep her clothes to us just in
case she gets the fever in the night.

Speaker 6 (11:47):
We don't know, but like we try to bring her
own dates and it's just not the same, you know, Like,
but we also don't have any support to watch her.
So it's like she does go everywhere with us, which
means that there's no like like time together with just
her and I, but you know, we constantly communicate.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
We are aware of.

Speaker 6 (12:06):
The uh, the chapter that we're in right now, and
we realize that, you know, as time goes on, the
dynamic is gonna constantly change, and in a marriage, it
should constantly change. It should never stay you know, the same.
But you know, and it's caused you know, some some
struggles too, because you know, we have different views on

(12:29):
certain things. But again, the communication about certain situations we
end up coming. You know, it's not her and I
against each other, it's her and I against the problem.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
And so we just maintained this, this teammate ship.

Speaker 6 (12:47):
I guess, I don't even know if that's a word,
but like, but we're we're best friends and we're lovers.
And I always always said, I always said, you know,
I don't want the person I'm married to to be
my best friend because I thought I didn't want to
be friend zoned, you know, if that's possible. But she's
legit my best friend and I haven't been friend zoned.

Speaker 3 (13:06):
So I mean, listen, it takes a village to raise
a child, but in your case, it takes two superwomen. Now,
since this segment, I'm gonna shift is brought to us
by what's upon of coconut I have to ask do
you both incorporate coconut water into your routine? I mean
as an athlete gen and as a singer Shawnee, how
do you each use coconut water to stay hydrated and
energized during your busy schedules.

Speaker 6 (13:27):
Well, I'll be honest, like, when we have coconut water,
it's coming from an actual coconut, which is amazing.

Speaker 3 (13:33):
That a lots of work, But what's up? Lots of work,
lots of workit that's lots of work.

Speaker 6 (13:37):
But you know there's a lot of nutritional nutritional value
in coconut water. As Shawnee is highly on caffeine ninety
percent of the.

Speaker 5 (13:45):
Time, I need to like combat that with some good
old ellectual It's because my caffeine intake to keep me broadigger.

Speaker 3 (13:52):
High hydration is everything. You know, our bodies need it.
So I know it's after me. Wait, me, definitely don't
have enough coconut water in.

Speaker 5 (14:01):
Our world, but we definitely could.

Speaker 6 (14:03):
You know, we're working towards that goal because it's it's
really important and so poorly well once spot of coconut,
big shout out to them.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
We're going to get cases sent your way and put
your right. Coconut water is known for its natural electrolytes
and hydration benefits, which is perfect for someone on the go,
and whether you're on the field or on stage or
running after your Harley, you could fit it into your lifestyle.
And studies do, in fact show nearly sixty percent of
working parents feel burned out, burned out by the end

(14:33):
of the week. Yet here you both are still thriving.
Now last, what's next for both of you? Shanny any
new music on the horizon? Jen Any plans to return
to the sports world in some capacity.

Speaker 5 (14:46):
I'm working on a debut album. I had the tour
coming up across Canada and haltfully coming into the States
very soon. But lots of music scept I have so
many dreams and goals that I want to continue. You know,
my music has brought me so much feeling on my
journey and I want to continue sharing that in my
creative work. And for a Jen, she might be getting

(15:08):
into some more sports. I'm like pushing her son into
its it's hot.

Speaker 6 (15:14):
So what's interesting is that I got a call from
somebody and asking me if I wanted to compete at
the twenty twenty six Gay.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
Games, and I was like that Gay Games? What is that?
Never heard of it?

Speaker 6 (15:27):
But you know it's in Spain actually, and it's not
even in the sport of rugby because obviously, with all
my injuries and I've been retired for you know, since
twenty eighteen, I can't return to that sport. It's very
hard on your body. It's in dragon boat racing.

Speaker 3 (15:41):
Wow. Well, it's been an absolute joy talking to both
of you today. I mean, your love, your resilience, and
your shared journey into motherhood are truly truly inspiring, and
I can't wait to see what the future holds for
your beautiful family. Thank you both for sharing your story
with us and for being such incredible role models.

Moment of Zen right here on seven ten WR the
Voice of New York iHeartRadio. I'm your host Zen. Sam's
up next in the Going Deep segment, brought to you
by Co two Lift in our expert on the microphone series.

(18:23):
We're joined by beauty industry trailblazer Lana Kerr. She's CEO
and founder of Co two Lift and Lumisk Skincare. And
joining us again is the incredible doctor Michael Reed, a
Board certified obgyn, a skilled cosmetic iecologist if you will,
who is passionate about helping women feel confident and revitalize.
With over twenty two years of experience in women's health,

(18:46):
has dedicated his career to mastering cosmetic imecology and staying
current on advancements in this particular field.

Speaker 4 (18:53):
His patients include Hollywood A List celebrities, foreign royalty, working moms,
and single women, all seeking away fareness, options and solutions
to improve their health and at the end of the day,
revitalize that sex life.

Speaker 3 (19:06):
Sex and sexuality are definitely a part of life. We
all know this, but aside from reproduction, sex is about
intimacy and pleasure, and in fact, sexual activity offers many
surprising benefits and sexual health is even more than just
avoiding diseases and unplanned pregnancies. It's about recognizing that sex
should be an important part of your life today. They're

(19:27):
going to join me to help me demystify sexual shame,
talk openly about women's health and wellness. And of course
we're chatting about the health benefits of sexual pleasure, how
to maximize celebration of self, and the many proprietary benefits
of carbon dioxide therapy for vaginal rejuvenation. Now, welcome into
the show is the incredible doctor Michael Reid and superstar

(19:49):
Lana Kur. Welcome, my friends.

Speaker 8 (19:51):
Ah, then, thank you for having.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
Me, Thank you so much for coming on. So, according
to the American Society Plastic Surgeons, there's been a notable
rise in labia plasty and vaginoplasty procedures, with a nearly
thirty percent increase in recent years, and women seek these
treatments for variety of reasons, ranging from discomfort to cosmetic concerns,
and more importantly, to improve their confidence. So today Lana

(20:19):
is going to join us to discuss this very topic,
particularly the innovative role that CO two lift played in
her healing process. So, Lana, undergoing any form of surgery,
especially something as intimate as vaginoplasty, can be a deeply
personal decision. Please tell me what led you to pursue
this procedure, and what were some of your motivations?

Speaker 9 (20:41):
You know, Well, first of all, I am a big
advocate of, you know, sexual health, big advocate for women
taking a role or being in charge of their pleasure,
the role of intimacy, not only in connecting with your partner,
but in connecting with yourself. And just like I would,

(21:01):
and I've always said this. You know, when I'm in
my sixties, if I need a facelift, I will get it.
So why wouldn't I consider doing that for this very
important area of my life.

Speaker 3 (21:11):
That's why I thought of let me do this.

Speaker 9 (21:13):
And then I thought of doctor Reid because his passion,
his skill, and so I actually flew from Florida to
Sacramento to see him to get because I felt fully
confident that he would be taking care of me.

Speaker 3 (21:26):
Pop knock, Well, thank you for your transparency, and thank
you so much for taking good care of for doctor Reed.
Like I know what it's like to have to travel
for surgery. It's not pleasant, but it's worth the trek
if you are in the right hands. And that's what
it's all about, being in the right hands. Now, it's
interesting doctor Reid to note that through all the research,
of course that we've been doing. While vaginoplastic can address

(21:48):
functional issues like discomfort during physical activities, many women also
seek it right, just like Lana did, for esthetic reasons
as well. In addition, right, she wanted to look youthful
down there, and research shows that this trend isn't just
about appearance, but about overall well being and confidence. Now
I'm curious, what are some of the most common reasons
women come to you for this procedure.

Speaker 8 (22:10):
Yeah, women come to me for labiaplasty, I'm sorry, vaginal plasty,
vaginal tightening for a number of reasons. It could be
I want to feel my husband more than I did
prior to having children, or I have four beautiful children,
but now my vagina is a little bit more open
than I would like, and I'm not feeling the pleasure.

(22:30):
I'm not feeling friction like I would The thing about
vaginal plasty is that it restores form, function, and fun
It does all of these things. It can help with
bow movements, it can help with your ability to hold
tampons to remain hygienically clean during your menstrual cycles. So

(22:51):
there's functional things, but there's also pleasure associated with vaginal plasty.
And the biggest thing that I think and why this
is such a tsunami here in the United States, a
tidal wave that's coming, is because women's sexual health hasn't
been addressed in a decade or more. And so now

(23:13):
is the time for women to step forward and say, hey,
I want what I'm deserving of having as well. And
that's all we're doing, leveling the playing field and changing
the landscape for women as it pertains to women's sexual health,
and land is definitely approven that it should be done
without feeling scrutinized or any kind of taboo for improving

(23:37):
her own sexual well being, improving her own health, improving
her own mental wellness. Right, so why give her a
hard time? And she's brave to come out here and
say these things because she's a leader in our field.
And if she's willing to say this, then other women
should feel comfortable to seek a provider and have these
same changes and have these wonderful improvements in life, whether

(24:02):
it be form, function or fine.

Speaker 3 (24:05):
Well said, well, we're on the above, we're out of
the above. Now. I want to focus on the one
aspect of it that is kind of where women are
having a little bit of anxiety. Right, So the recovery
process can be daunting for some. So Lane up, could
you share with us how your experience was during the
procedure and then the recovery. I want to know was

(24:26):
it painful, what was the healing process like? Okay, first
of all, the procedure with doctor Reid, it was so comfortable.
It was I think it was like over three hours.

Speaker 9 (24:38):
Right, he had pronos, but I actually I got it
from the table and walked to my hotel.

Speaker 3 (24:44):
There was no pain.

Speaker 9 (24:46):
Now doctor Reed does get pain medication. I took tail
and all, but I had no swelling.

Speaker 3 (24:51):
I was. I mean, it was a.

Speaker 9 (24:53):
Pretty seamless procedure for me. I when I speak to
other women since doing this procedure and hearing their experience,
it is different.

Speaker 3 (25:03):
You know, they had they did have pay, they did
have discomfort.

Speaker 9 (25:06):
I think a couple things, maybe the doctor involved, but
also to I know that the CO two le V
had a role in less inflammation, less swelling, and then
of course I recovered very quickly within five weeks.

Speaker 3 (25:20):
Did you prep your vagina with the CO two lift
V prior and then used it post as well?

Speaker 9 (25:26):
Yet why do one monthly? But before the procedure, I
did one, and then after doctory put one inside and
I left his office with it on, and then I
used I did ten treatments all together, and I think
that definitely helped in I didn't have the swelling or
the discomfort as well as in you know, really shaved

(25:47):
three weeks off of the healing process before I can
actually start tempting sexual activity.

Speaker 3 (25:53):
And there you have it. CO two lift V becoming
popular as part of the post vegetiplacity care. Now we
have a whole new category for this, and a recent
clinical study showed actually that CO two treatments can reduce
healing time up to thirty five percent, making it appealing
option and appealing option for women seeking faster recovery minimal discomfort. Now,
doctor reed, you can you explain the science behind the

(26:16):
CO two lift. I mean specifically how all of the
vaginal treatment works on a cellular level to enhance patient
outcomes and comfort.

Speaker 8 (26:24):
We breathe in oxygen and we breathe out CO two. Yes,
so whenever we hold our breath and hold our breath,
our body builds up CO two because we haven't released it.
So when that happens when there's a build up of
CO two. The body says, I need oxygen, and I
need it now. So imagine you have a jail that

(26:47):
emanates CO two. So I put it on the actual
wound or labia, plastic, vagin plaster or whatever, and it
creates an environment that's rich, rich, and rich in CO two,
and the body says, oh my god, something's going on.
And the body focuses on that area, sends more blood vessels,

(27:09):
sends more red blood cysts, red blood cells. It also
stimulates new blood vessel growth and starts the healing cascade. So,
my god, it works perfectly.

Speaker 3 (27:21):
This kind of technology. By God, I mean, it offers
patients the potential to feel more comfortable sooner, both physically
and emotionally. It's a win win for all. So I
get what you're saying now, it's more importantly line up.
One of the main reasons women opt for vaginoplasty is
to improve their sex lives, as in your case. Research
in the Journal of Sexual Medicine highlights that post surgery

(27:44):
satisfaction rates are incredibly high, with patients supporting better physical
and emotional intimacy. I'm sure many women are curious how
has this procedure impacted your personal life, particularly your sex life.

Speaker 9 (27:57):
You know, you forget kind of what it was like
when you're a virgin and then your first sexual experience.
It's similar. In other words, you have to kind of
work it. So it's actually been a fun process because
we have to work on it every day. Train is
to retrain the muscles to relax for something to penetrate it.

(28:19):
So Doctory gives you dilators that you have to use.
I was impressed with the Seal two Livy in this area. Normally,
you know, when you have sex, you know, we always
talk about lubrication and sustain the lubrication, but you're excited.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
Here it is I'm using dilators.

Speaker 9 (28:34):
There's no excitement necessarily own it, and I can do
it without loot. One of the things I notice also
the angle change. And so what happens is is that
when you know, when you get older, that angle falls
by what Doctory did? He replaced it. He put it
back to where it was, So when something enters it,
you're actually hitting the literal roots. So you get your

(28:56):
your your you get that feeling more intense, stronger or
Gatheran's Foster.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
It's been incredible.

Speaker 8 (29:05):
It really does do a lot just for the overall
person and being. I mean, that's what this is for us,
not for the man. That's what I keep want to
beat that to the ground. Is not for Terry. Terry
enjoyed it, but it wasn't for Terry. Landa got everything
out of it. She's the one keeps saying how wonderful. Well,

(29:25):
I can tell you what Terry didn't like the eight
weeks that was you know, the six D eight weeks.

Speaker 3 (29:30):
He called me a couple of times. But hold on, brother,
that's what I do.

Speaker 9 (29:35):
We are doctor Reed. I don't know if you can
bring this out. When you measure, there's a measurement, and
I don't remember the need. You measure the pressure of the.

Speaker 8 (29:43):
Vagiant use a perideometer. A parideometer is a device that
goes in the vagina and we're able to see what
the tightness is on placement. So we place it and
it says, oh, she has she's able to increase the
pressure by three millimeters of mercury. And then she squeezes
does a kegel, and we see an improvement or we don't.

(30:04):
And then we have her hold it and then see
how long she can hold before it drops off. So
in her case, she had her numbers and then we
did the second numbers and Lanta, you could agree that
they went up significantly between before surgery and after surgery.
So it's another objective way to kind of measure without

(30:26):
subjective type feelings. So we have an objective measure of
paraneometer and it worked really well. It's another way to
establish that this is working well for the patient and
we did a good job for her.

Speaker 3 (30:37):
Now, Doctor Reid, have you seen a significant difference in
recovery time or outcomes and patients who use CEO two
list Z compared to those who didn't.

Speaker 8 (30:46):
Yeah, that's unequivocally yes, yes and yes. I mean you
have a healing cascade, so you have anti inflammatories sales,
you have cided kinds, chemokind. All these things are commune
dedicating and getting rid of the inflammation and really helping
with the inflammation and helping with the swelling. Swelling is

(31:07):
an enemy to the vaginal cosmetic surgery. I mean it
can stretch tissues and modify outcome. So if you can
abate the swelling as well as improve collagen elasting and
new blood vessel growth. It's a win win situation. It's
almost a no brainer not to put the two together.
Significant difference.

Speaker 3 (31:28):

I'm your host, Zen Zams. I am so excited to
introduce the Polished Beauty segment. We are debuting it tonight.
We're joined by our newest contributor, doctor Daisy Aim. She's
a triple board certified cosmetic surgeon and highly respected obstetrician
and gynecologist. She's a highly trained solo private practice owner

(33:58):
of over fifteen years. She has distinguished accomplishments both nationally
and internationally, and she has trailblazed the hybrid private practice
of cosmetic surgery and obgyn as a unit, creating a
trifecta of women's health, wellness and beauty. And if that
wasn't enough, she's also the host of the Polish Beauty podcast.

(34:20):
She's going to join me tonight in our expert on
the Microphone series and we're going to break down the
latest in women's health, wellness and beauty. Welcoming down to
the show is the amazing trailblazer, doctor Daisy Aim. Welcome
to the show, Superstar. I'm so excited to be here,
so excited to have you on. So let's start from
the very beginning. Tell us more about what you aim

(34:41):
to accomplish through the Polish Beauty segment and podcast.

Speaker 10 (34:45):
Yeah, the Polish Beauty setment or the Polish Beauty Podcast.
I came up with this because in my private practice,
I deal with women, and I thought, how can I
take my private practice online podcast.

Speaker 3 (34:58):
So it's going to focus what I call the four
being women.

Speaker 10 (35:01):
Right, We're going to look into her business, her brain,
her beauty, and her body, which is everything I discussed
here in my practice. So I'm really excited. I can't
wait to share with the audience.

Speaker 3 (35:12):
Polish Beauty sounds like it's going to hit all the
right notes, from the inner workings of women's bodies to
external wellness and beauty. Just like you said, it's incredible
to have a space dedicated to these conversations. In fact,
a study by the American Journal of Public Health showed
that over ninety percent of women want more educational content

(35:33):
on their health and well being, especially as they enter
perimenopause and beyond. So what inspired you to create the
Polished Beauty podcast.

Speaker 10 (35:42):
You know, it's really amazing because in twenty twenty, when
COVID happened, like all of us, my practice I had
to shut down.

Speaker 3 (35:49):
I have three arms of my practice.

Speaker 10 (35:51):
At cosmetic surgery, obstetrics, and dynacology, so I had to
shut down dynacology and cosmetic surgery. Like most people, thing
I could do was obstetrics, and babies come all the time.

Speaker 3 (36:03):
But you know, I had a lot of free time
to on my hands.

Speaker 10 (36:05):
So I sat here in my office and I thought, Okay,
a line seems like the next space. How do I
get online and in what capacity do I want to
be online? So it was just a brainstorming. Around twenty twenty,
I decided on podcasts. It literally is taking me four
years because I like to take my time to put
things together, and I had all the content.

Speaker 3 (36:26):
It was just a matter of timing. You know, it's
so important that we have platforms like this very one
to speak openly, and women's health often gets overshadowed by
broader medical discussions. In reality, seventy five percent of women
experience at least one menopausal symptom by age fifty, Yet

(36:47):
so many feel there's a little public conversation around it.
So what you are doing is extremely important with this
Polish Beauty podcast. Now let's dive into the vision and
the audience for Polish Beauty speaking to and what message
do you hope to deliver.

Speaker 10 (37:03):
I am speaking to every woman literally right in every
season of a woman's life, and that can vary from
childbearing or not childbearing, from career or not, from health
choices or not, so any changes that you go through
as a woman, you're my audience. And as an obstetrician
and guidecologist, all I deal with with women. They come

(37:23):
here for one problem. We find ourselfs talking about something
totally different, but it's all related. So my audience is
every woman going through any seasons of your life. And
you know, in some ways I call it ambition needs
empowerment because a lot of my patients that unique are
very ambitious, most women are. And how do you empower
yourself and how do you empower others? So my audience

(37:45):
is all of you women in any stage of your life.

Speaker 3 (37:49):
I love that your message is all about empowerment and education.
A recent study showed that over sixty percent of women
feel unprepared for menopause and having a trust voice to
break it all down is so incredibly valuable. In fact,
it's priceless. Speaking of which, perimenopause is something that can

(38:09):
be mysterious for many women. Could you explain exactly what
pery menopause is.

Speaker 10 (38:15):
Yes, parimenopause refers to the time of woman's life where
your cycles are skipping, so it's not lovely like you're
used to and for most women, usually happen in the forties,
but it can happen earlier for some in their thirties.
So this may go on for several years until you
have complete stop of your cycle, and when that happens

(38:37):
one full year, that's when we call it menopause. So
perimenopause is kind of this dance, you know, It's like, Okay,
we're dancing and we're not dancing, are we waiting or not?

Speaker 3 (38:46):
So during that time you.

Speaker 10 (38:48):
May also have some symptoms as typically associated with menopause.

Speaker 3 (38:52):
It's such a crucial time of life, yet so often misunderstood.
I had no idea that perimenopause can start as early
as women's mid thirties. A Journal of Women's Health study
highlighted that up to eighty percent of women experience symptoms
like mood swings and night sweats and irregular periods during
this phase, but they're not always sure what's happening. So

(39:13):
it's important that we educate and highlight all of these
symptoms and come up with ways to mitigate some of
these consequences during this extremely difficult transition in our bodies. Now,
when it comes to treatments, what options are available for
women going through perimenopads.

Speaker 10 (39:31):
Yes, because perimenopause is such a time where it's not
very clear and consent.

Speaker 3 (39:37):
Your symptoms is what we treat.

Speaker 10 (39:39):
So during that time, if you say have in hot flashes,
which is a popular one, then you know we have
homal replacement therapy that we can discuss with you as
an option. And then there are non hormonotherapy options as well.
There's that viral treatment. Now, if you have symptoms like
bagulor joyness or decrisa libido, which is more of a
common thing that women experience in that li late thirties

(40:00):
and early forties, we have some treatment that.

Speaker 3 (40:04):
Are surgical, non surgical.

Speaker 10 (40:06):
Devices or queens or estrogen tablets or local treatments to
handle that.

Speaker 3 (40:13):
It's truly amazing how far treatments have come from when
my mom and grandmother were going through menopause. And yet
around forty five percent of women don't actually seek treatment
for perimenopause symptoms, according to the North American Menopause Society,
And that's part of a lack of awareness, which is
why what you're doing here with polished beauty is so important. Now,

(40:37):
can women experience menopause like symptoms during perimenopause?

Speaker 10 (40:43):
Yes, you can absolutely feel like you're having hot flashes,
baginal dryness, decreased sexual interest, just feeling like you're not
yourself mentally during perimenopause. And that's where it's very milky,
right because prior to all this conversation menopause and bard menopause,
you may have.

Speaker 3 (41:02):
Been experiencing this but didn't know where to put it.

Speaker 10 (41:05):
You didn't know where to park it, and you didn't
even know to call your gynecologists. You're just like, I'm
not feeling myself. But it did not resonate that oh,
this actually medical condition that I'm experiencing and it's called parentmenopause.
So yeah, it's one of those things where I love
talking about this. You know, I've been practicing for about
seventeen plus years and When I started my practice, I

(41:26):
was thirty one and now forty seven, I've literally grown
up with my women, and some of them were older
than me. So it's amazing that I'm also a perimenopausal
physician and now we're kind of doing that dance, and
it's amazing without a doubt. That's something I think a
lot of our listeners and viewers can relate to, and

(41:46):
the overlap of symptoms can be so confusing. Studies Don't
Lie twenty eighteen, a study found that around twenty five
percent of women report severe symptoms in perimenopause, often mistaking
them for something entirely. So it's important that we understand
when and what is happening to our bodies, and that

(42:06):
we have the right practitioners like yourself to help and
guide us through this time. Now, let's talk about menopause itself.
Can you walk us through what happens to a woman's
body during menopause? Yes, First, the definition of menopause is
no cycle for twelve full months, so you have to

(42:27):
go an entire year without bleeding, and then you'll consider menopause.

Speaker 3 (42:32):
During menopause, you may not happen a symptoms.

Speaker 10 (42:35):
So I don't want anyone to think that if I'm
not happy symptoms, I'm not in menopause. You are in menopause,
because it's an objective definition. After that, if you're having symptoms,
some of the common symptoms are hot flashes.

Speaker 3 (42:48):
You may have memory fag you may have.

Speaker 10 (42:51):
Tiredness, fatigue. You may notice that you're just gaining weight,
especially around the abdomen era for whatever reason you've been
always been apt to You've had good lifestyle, but yet
you find yourself gaining weight. You may have badgel or dryingness.
You know, you may have lubrication issues where you know
you're just not enjoying sex as much. You may report

(43:13):
lack of sensation, the vaginal error. You may not as
your joint or hurting you. You know, working out is
not the same. So all these symptoms. Because there are
estrogen receptors everywhere from your head to toe, you may
have anything that's impacted with an estragen receptor.

Speaker 3 (43:29):
It's such a powerful change, and about one point three
million women in the US enter menopause each year, and
yet the stigma surrounding it can make it feel like
a hush hush topic. But really it's the start of
a new chapter not an ending, so women embrace this
incredible time in your lives now. Of course, there are
various treatments available to manage menopause symptoms. What are the

(43:53):
most effective options today?

Speaker 10 (43:55):
Well, you know, the goal standard in managing menopause is
estrogen therapy. The reason why we're in menopause as women
is because at estrogen levels is depleting or has depleted.
So the best way to fix that is to replace
it with estrogen. The question you have to ask yourself
is how do I want to bring estrogen or hormone
back into my system? Do I want to take a tablet?

(44:18):
Do I want to do a cream, a topical cream?
Do I want to do a patch? Do I want
to take hormone intravationally as a local estrogen therapy, or
do I want to do a pellette which is a
subcutenous injunction. So you just have to decide which route
is comfortable for me to get hormone back into my system,

(44:38):
and that's how we treat it. That's a goal standard.

Speaker 3 (44:41):
Now.

Speaker 10 (44:41):
There are non hormonal therapies or medications in the market
that I do prescribe that you know, for some women
they don't want to be on homone therapy for one
reason or another. A lot of time is misconception or
misinformation that has been out for decades that they're clinging onto.
So a good education will allow them to grow up
that is actually safe. But if you don't want estrogen

(45:04):
or former, there are non hormonal prescription medications that can
be prescribed, and then they're over counter, over the counter
remedies that you may use to try to alleviate your symptoms.

Speaker 3 (45:15):
We're almost at the end of our session. What is
it that you would love the audience to know about you?
A couple of fun facts, well, three fun facts about me.
Number One, I love to work out. I work at about.

Speaker 10 (45:28):
Six days a week, literally, guys, and that is something
I've been doing since I was fifteen.

Speaker 3 (45:33):
And because of that.

Speaker 10 (45:35):
Number two, I make sure that what I eat is
very important, so I'm very intentional when I put on
my plate. So I do a lot of home cooking
and that allows me to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Speaker 3 (45:46):
I bring all of that Number three.

Speaker 10 (45:48):
Into my practice, and I hope my patients accountable by
introducing healthy living, by eating healthy exercising, so that when
we do cosmetic surgery, your results are going to be
amazing and it's gonna last you a longer time. So
I'm looking at sustainability and longevity and cosmetic surgery and
I HOI piaces accountable.

Speaker 3 (46:09):

and transparent. That was amazing. That was the incredible Doctor

Speaker 3 (47:57):
On a Moment of Zen.

Speaker 11 (47:58):
Right here on seven ten are the Voice of New
York iHeartRadio. I'm Anna Devere and today we explore the
creation story of an extraordinary tour Deifores, designer and artist
from East Orange, New Jersey. Everyone experiences life altering events,
the moment an asteroid or catastrophe, or even a seismic

(48:20):
first love hits. For Bailey Lee, it was all of
the above, as she was born to parents who were
both addicted to drugs. Every child feels like they're the
center of the universe, and without question, they take on
their circumstances and accept what is. Most of us experience
the mixture of love and chaos at some point in

(48:41):
our life, but to the young and impressionable, it can
cast you adrift. Young Bailey had one distinct advantage. Her
grandmother's home was a haven. She took notice of the
beauty and comfort of the textiles and gathered strength from
her grandmother's aesthetic. Some times Bailey bounced between houses like

(49:02):
a foster kid, and she always carried an important touchstone,
the unmistakable feeling of home. It was an anchor and
in so many ways shaped this young girl, who knew
how to create beauty from disorder, a talent that would
bloom for the rest of Bailey's life. As an adult,
she sold real estate and found purpose in the business

(49:25):
of facilitating dreams. She was already beginning to understand the
value of being a connector, and when a client asked
her to stage a home for selling, Bailey recruited a
friend who knew something about design. Together they stumbled upon
a hidden talent they both enjoyed, and with the success
of this first project, the dupo went on to create
impact as designers. The only thing you can count on

(49:48):
is change, and sometimes it happens right when you've found
your groove. Bailey was skilled as a silver lining specialist,
and when her marriage ended, this single mother rooted herself
in a corporate job. She accepted this chapter and raised
her children until another life altering moment came. The distress
call from a former client whose life was upended by divorce.

(50:12):
The mother on the other end of the line spoke
directly to Bailey's heart. She needed only one thing to
create a sense of home to anchor her broken family.
Bailey stepped in as her champion. When life offers you
a defining moment and you feel a sense of purpose
in that upheaval, look no further than Bailey Lee for inspiration.

(50:34):
By stepping into her calling, she has mastered the art
of an altered life and has enjoyed the synchronicities and
miracles that went with it. Her design work was featured
on NBC. She developed a flare for murals and fine
art painting, which were discovered by Whoopy Goldberg at the
Newark Arts Festival. Whoopy bought two of her works. The

(50:56):
Accolades brand partnerships and media appearances came at a steady pace,
and today she's featured everywhere from Art Basle to the
Apartment Therapy series with Toyota. Best of all, Bailey Lee
has discovered the belief that by transforming one's space, you
can transform their lives. She muses that interior design has

(51:17):
helped her uncover her true passion, bringing out the best
in people by interpreting who they are at their core
and translating that through their environments. The impact that her
work has had on her clients' lives is truly the
reward she seeks. Stay tuned for our interview with Bailey
Lee in our November episode of Altered Life Revolution. Until then,
