Speaker 1 (00:00):
The game is one in the trenches. They just don't
have to beef upfront, all right, So you better have
beef up front.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
They have the skill position players, they have the defensive backs,
they have the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
They don't have the beef up front. They says, your
weekly stop for all things college football. Now here are
your hosts, Ryan Coyle and Sean Brace, and we're off
and running another edition of Beef Uugh Bron Ryan Beef Coyle.
I am Sean Brace. Hello, everybody a lot to get to.
(00:31):
College football is off and running. We got games going
on every single night of the week all the way
up to Thanksgiving. Of course, a new number one at
the top of the charts for everybody out there. Quack
Quack go the Ducks Bama, they go down. Crazy interesting
weekend of college football where recap. We'll look ahead to
(00:52):
this upcoming weekend of course featuring Alabama and what interesting
spot that they're in. We got a lot of college
games to get to, Ryan beefquill, how were doing there?
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Pretty good? I think this week.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
I mean we've talked about it in the past few weeks,
how great the games have been. I think this might
be from start to finish the best slate that we've
had starting Thursday night with Pitt and Syracuse, Friday night
UNLV and Boise, and then five ranked verus ranked games
on Saturday. Just in terms of overall balance, so much,
so much to get into and so much to break
(01:25):
down for this week because a few teams are going
to get eliminated, I think from playoff contention, and then
you know there's an LSU Texas A and endgame on
Saturday night. You look at both those team schedules, the
winner of that game is in the driver's seat to
go to the SEC championship game. So huge implications this weekend,
and just the stakes get higher and higher each week
(01:46):
that we go. We see one or two teams get eliminated,
maybe another team or two surprise. But it's been an
awesome season and look forward to coming in for a
crash landing.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
We're pretty much halfway done the year already.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Yeah, week nine. Here we are landing is an interesting
way of putting it. As we sit here on October
twenty second or twenty third, with plenty of games to
go right, We've got a whole other month to cover
this sort of deal. Plus, where do you stand. As
far as the twelve team playoff, do you think we're
going to be able to have a smooth landing when
(02:21):
it comes to name in the twelve teams? Or do
you think that things are going to hit the wall
here because I'm hearing a lot of interesting discussions about
certain teams in the ACC. Potentially, if it all shakes
out and all the teams are equal at the top,
somebody big could miss an opportunity to play in a
championship game. Of course, we got these academies, you know,
(02:41):
peeking in Notre Dame. Of course they're playing this week.
They got Navy correct yet Navy and at MetLife, so
that could ease things up from from Navy's perspective if
they do take an l. But where are you at
right now? If I asked you when it comes to
at the end of the season name in the twelve teams. Yeah,
there's going to be some being seen from some minor team,
(03:04):
but for the most part, they're going to get it right.
Would you agree with that or no?
Speaker 3 (03:08):
No, I think you can just point right to the
NCAA tournament and there's always going to be debates and
you look at you know, the first four the first
four out the last four in type thing that's always
heavily debated still to this day. And I think the
biggest thing with the college football Playoff this year being
the twelve teams. It's your first ever go at it.
It's your first ever look. You have no data point
(03:30):
to point two before, like, oh, a three loss team
has never made the college football playoff before, you know,
with ten years worth of playoffs to look at, So
that's going to be an interesting scenario. Like down the line,
like if it comes to it, does a nine and
three Alabama get in over a ten and two Indiana
or an eleven in two Indiana that loses in the
Big Ten title game? Like, we're going to have so
(03:51):
many debates and it's still at the end, but not
enough history and kind of data to back up the point.
So it's everything kind of subjective. You know, ask a
ask that question five years down the line, and you
can be like, all right, a three team will never
or three lost team will never make it into the playoffs.
But that could be the cases here because there still
is four to five games for these respective teams to go.
(04:12):
Some of these teams I think still have six games
but yes, there's still a lot to iron out, and
there's always going to be sub subjectivism criticism at the
end of the day, so that there's gonna be chaos
on Section Sunday.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
In no doubt.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Three losses? Is that going to happen? In your mind?
Will we have a three loss team in the final twelve?
Speaker 3 (04:34):
I don't think so, because I think there'll be too
many one loss teams at the end of the day.
Like when you look at a team like Penn State
where they have tough game we'll talk about with Wisconsin
this Saturday, but they should win that one, and then
they have the Ohio State game. They should at least
go eleven to one, but then it comes down to
tie breakers and everything. Do they even make it to
the title game? And I think that's going to be
(04:54):
an interesting point of data as well. Does that get
used against you if you go to the title game
and lose rather than a team that's sitting home at
their couch.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
Do they get in?
Speaker 3 (05:03):
So that's another kind of big thing that we're gonna
have to look at. But there could be a scenario
where a three team, three loss team makes it in
as at eleven squad, but you know, that's why they
play the games.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
And we'll start to learn that more and more as
we go.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Yeah, I'm wondering if if, like and as this is
year one, I think we might find, like, you know,
the selection committee might get this like piece of paper
all of a sudden, find it buried underneath the desk somewhere,
and like, oh, here's some extra stipulation for some tiebreakers.
Because I was hearing some tiebreaker conversation the other day
(05:38):
and I'm like, ah, you know, but it's not app
it's apples and oranges with a lot of these tiebreaking conversations.
We're not gonna bore you because we've got a long
way to go, but as apples and oranges with these
tiebreaking conversations, because a lot of these teams don't play
the same schedule, even if you're in the same conference.
So it's like, you know, I just I think we're
gonna have chaos and and I don't know if that's
(05:59):
a good thing. I don't know if that's a good thing.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Normally it'd be like, yeah, bring it all on, Florida State,
undefeated all that, you know, but this was supposed to
and you know, they're going to go to sixteen immediately, right, Like,
isn't that the plan?
Speaker 1 (06:16):
So of course it's going to make life easier. But
I thought that this was going to smooth things out
with the with the state with the twelve team playoff,
But it might not at the end. But we'll talk
about the games and let the rest work it sell out.
So real quick, let's recap what took place last week,
and of course let's start with the big one. Georgia
(06:37):
rolls Texas in Austin. Where do you start with this one? Beef?
I tend to believe that Georgia's defense showed up in
a big way, and that's the National Championship caliber defense.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
Yeah, that was definitely the most impressive we've seen from
them this year. My main take on them, you know,
kind of leading up to the game, was they don't
seem to have that those cast of like dudes that
they've had on those teams in the past, where it's like,
all right, we're scared of these guys. Sure, a good
collection of town, a lot of good players, but those
guys showed up on Saturday, and I think that was
my biggest takeaway was just the way that they were
(07:11):
moving around the field swarming the ball because Carson Beck
threw three interceptions, Like I feel like that hasn't gotten
talked about enough and they still won that game pretty comfortably.
A lot of turnovers in that game. It was really sloppy.
Beck hasn't had the greatest season. I think he's definitely
out of consideration to be like the number one overall pick,
which he was projected to be coming into the.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Year by a lot of people.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
I've never been that high on him, and I'm still
worried if it comes down to a big game, are
they able to get out of it if he does
go have three turnovers?
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Versus A in Oregon, vers A in Ohio.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
State down the line, Texas, I think they were a
little bit shell shocked with the way that Georgia kind
of came in there and responded from what they looked
like on the road against Alabama, say, and then Sark
I think maybe hit the panic button a little by
benching viewers, then only going with Arch for a couple
of drives and then going back to yours. Kirby had
him kind of in disarray, and I was really high
(08:02):
on what Sark's been able to do on the offensive
side this year, but that was the first real, kind
of legitimate test for Texas. Maybe it's a little bit
of a wake up call that you know, everything's not
going to be a cakewalk here in the SEC. As
a lot of people have said this week, they're welcome
to the SEC moment. No better way to have it
than Georgia. But I'm still not writing off Texas. I
(08:23):
do think it was interesting what they did with the
quarterback and if that's something to monitor going forward, because
I do think that was a panic move and one
that he reversed on pretty quickly. So that's my kind
of major takeaways from the game on Saturday night.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
Yeah, I would say that sark miss played his hand
a ton in that game with the quarterback position right
like that going into it. I think he just said
it specifically was he had a plan and this was
the way he was going to go about it with
quinn Ewers. If I look, if I knew, if I
knew going in that he was going to pull quinn
(08:58):
Ewers as fast as he was, I would say it's mistake.
Then go with arch Manning, stay with him. Right like that,
that didn't make much sense to me for him to
go okay, well it's not happening here, unless it was
simply put like, this is bad. We got to get
Quinn out of there. Let's get Arch. And the Arch
had an opportunity and it exactly wasn't good either. So
then he was just like, what difference does it make?
(09:18):
Maybe go back to Quinn for future perspective. I don't know.
Maybe I'm giving Suck a little bit too much credit there,
but in my mind, thirty thousand feet up view, I
think he misplayed his hand by going to Arch. If
he was going to do that, he should have started Arch.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
Yep. I agree.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
That's where I think where we were talking about before,
where I side on, I'd go to your side a
little bit where it's I think Arch has a little
bit more upside, especially because he adds kind of that
rushing ability. And then, like you said, if you're going
to pull Quinn, the whole reason why I think you
go to Quinn is because he's been there before. He
has the experience, he's played in the big games, and
(09:54):
he's kind of the leader, the experienced guy in that
quarterback room.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
That's why you go to him in the spot. If
you're just gonna pull him.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
When he has the first kind of series or two
of struggles and has a turnover two to go to Arch,
then I agree, you should just have Arch in there
to begin with. So there has to be a kind
of a clear line, like if Quinn comes out again,
you know, this is Arch's team going forward, and I
haven't seen anything, said. I assume Queen yours will be
starting this week against Vanderbilt, but I haven't seen anything,
(10:23):
you know, subjectively said. And Queen Ewers goes out there
and struggles against Vandy, you know, and you turn to
Arch again, then I don't think there's any turning back
from there.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
Yeah, I agree, Wow, what a change. You know, Throughout
the course of the season, Quinn was the guy he
was front running for Heisman. After that Winn against Michigan
goes down with an injury. Next to you know, Arch
steps in play as well, and his first really big
task coming back at home, gets absolutely smashed by Georgia,
and Georgia reminded everybody real fast how good that they
(10:54):
could be here in college football, all right. Staying with
last week, of course, a very surprising result. Tennessee in
an ugly game ended up taking down Alabama but this
was a surprise to me. I definitely did not think
Alabama or Tennessee had the guts to win that game.
But there was a lot of plays to be made
on the field. Bad quarterback played by both sides shouldn't
(11:16):
shock you that they did lose. But that's the story
for me in that one, is that with two losses,
Alabama drops to fifteen, I want to say, and they
still got some tough games on their schedule. They might
be on the outside looking in. With three losses two losses,
they might not be getting in either.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
Yeah, if I had to put money on it right now,
I would side to they won't be in the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
They still have to go to LSU for a night game.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
I think a lot of people would argue that's the
toughest environment to go into in all of college football.
The people I was watching with when we were watching
the Tennessee game, it was like Bama's defense on the
back end is pretty broken. Tennessee could have had four
or five long touchdowns and Nico missed few deep balls,
but he hit a couple when it mattered, and all
(12:03):
he had to do. And that's what I was saying
with the guys I was with. He just hits one
or two, they'll be in good shape. Because Tennessee, I think,
even on a bad day from the offense, the defense
is legit. That's a top five defense I think in
the country, and you know, gives me a belief that
they can go toe to toe with Georgia. I remember
two years ago after Tennessee beat Alabama, a few weeks
later they went down to Georgia. Georgia just absolutely manhandled
(12:25):
them with their big boys, and at the line of scrimmage.
Tennessee now has a roster that can compete and go
shot for shot with them. I think on a good day,
Tennessee can be anybody in the country no matter how
well the offense plays. They just need Nico to take
care of the ball and hit a few of those
big plays when it matters most. Because hypel system gets
guys open, it's just a matter of kind of pitch
(12:47):
and catch at that point.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
And that's where you pay this guy.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
It's funny to say once again in college football, but
you're paying him the big bucks. He's got to go
out there and make those big time plays.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
No, you're right about that, all right, So we keep
it moving here and from the recap of what took
place last week, again some good games. TCU at the
end of the night took down Utah Surprise in Utah
there at thirteen to seven. What was the other one
that I wanted to get into from last week? It's
slipping my brain here. LSU took down Arkansas that was
(13:16):
thirty four to ten. There a blowout. Yeah, the Indiana
Hoosiers game. There you go, Indiana ended up smashing Nebraska.
Of course, all eyes are on the Hoosiers at this
point in time. As far as a team perspective, Beef,
do you think that Indiana could potentially knock off I
believe they have Ohio State and Michigan both left on
(13:37):
their schedule. You think they can get one or possibly
two there?
Speaker 3 (13:41):
Definitely Michigan, They're going to be favored in that game.
I'm pretty sure that's in Bloomington. The Ohio State team
is at Ohio State, so that's gonna be a tough
obstacle to climb.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
But you know, I'm not saying that.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
They're The Buckeyes could be dead at that point, but
the Buckys have to go to State College next weekend.
That could be a two loss ohighest state team that
maybe you get a few guys that kind of quit
on the season and start to make some business decisions.
With being a two loss team, are they getting into
the to the playoffs? They'll still probably have a pretty
good shot, but you know, a lot can change over
(14:15):
these next few weeks. And I think everyone is just
chalking up that Ohio State game as an automatic loss.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
Why.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
I mean, Indiana hasn't really still played much yet. Another
game this week against Washington and their quarterback is potentially
out in Curtis Rourke, so that's something to watch. Well,
why are we putting a ceiling on Indiana? They just
continue to go out there and play super well week
after week. They're the number one scoring offense in all
of college football. And as Signetti said, google me I win.
(14:43):
It's plain and simple, and the boys buy into that.
The boys believe that. I don't think you should be
putting a ceiling on this Indiana team anymore. They're certainly
not the most talented, but they play well together and
they're definitely believing.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
Fourteen to one to win it all or win the
big tenets. Excuse me. On draftings sports book, we were
together on Saturday night. I think we looked up there
were seventy to one to win it all. I want
to say, let's see if we've had some movement now
down to sixty six to zero to one. I think
that's worth a little bit of a sprinkle. BEF. You're
looking at a big team, like just the the blueprint
(15:21):
of a team perspective, right that coach, he's he's definitely
got the bravado. They got some really good playmakers. They
put up some good, good points in some big games.
Look if they do, let me pull up their schedule here,
because let's just say, like let's just look at the
odds perspective from if they do win these games, what's
(15:42):
going to happen to them right now?
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Sixty to one, uh twenty to make the playoffs?
Speaker 1 (15:48):
Right now plus one twenty make the playoff. They got
Washington that should be a victory. They got Michigan State.
That should be a victory. Then they got Michigan. That's like,
they win these next two games, they'll probably somewhere around
like twenty to one, twenty five to one. You beat Michigan,
(16:08):
it might even be go, it might even shrink faster.
You never know if.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
They're If they're sitting at it would be ten and oh.
I believe going into the Ohio State game. I don't
know who they have the last game of the season,
and would.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
That be Purdue Perdue, Perdue?
Speaker 2 (16:23):
I think that the rivalry game.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
If you're sitting there at ten and O going into
the Ohio State game and you finish eleven and one,
I think worse depends on That's where it gets weird
with the tie breakers and the no divisions anymore, because
I can't even say if you're sitting there at eleven
and one, you're definitely in the conference title game. So there,
I think if you believe in them at all, I
think it's wise to take them now because you can.
(16:46):
Even if they do make it to the playoff, there's
gonna be plenty of opportunities to hedge that out and
just take basically whoever they play in the first round
money line and kind of just hedge it from there.
But sixty to one for team that has a clear
path to ten and oh and that's playing as well
as they are and believing as much as they are,
I think it's definitely worth a shot.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
If you if you've been having a pretty good season
and you're feeling lucky.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
Well, I got a ticket on Tennessee winning it all, Hey,
and Texas winning it all? So I got two tickets.
What's another what's another ticket for a team to win
it all with the Hoosiers. We'll talk about that a
little bit later. All right, let's get into some action
here once again. Big week college football, and uh let's
kick it off tomorrow with Syracuse and Pittsburgh Thursday night action.
(17:34):
Pitt five and a half point favorite. Sixty two is
our total in this one. Pit the perfect six and
oh on the season, Kyle McCord and the Orangeman five
and one, two and one in the ACC. Your thoughts
on this one. Pitt's been a pretty tough team, BUTQQ
sain't scared at the moment either.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
Yeah. I think we see some points on this one.
A little fun Thursday night kind of shootout. Pitt's been
not talked about enough as one of the surprise teams,
maybe because they've had some good years in the pass
under Nardozzi, but like they were expected to be, I
think a four win team, a five win team according
to their preseason win total, and they're sitting here at
(18:13):
six to zero with a chance to move to seven
to zero against the Syracuse team.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
It's been really good.
Speaker 3 (18:17):
Hats off to Pick because I think the writing was
on the wall that this was Nardozzi's potential last year.
I mean, he's really right at the ship there. But
I think we see some points in this one. Kyle
McCory has been slinging it all over the yard. You
look at his passing SATs, put them right up there
against anyone in college football.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
And then Eli Holstein.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
The Pick quarterback, has had a really good year as well,
about seventeen hundred yards fifteen passing touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
I think this game is a pure shootout.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
It's weird to say that with a Pat Nardouzzi team
usually defensive led, but these guys can put up some points.
Last week against Cal or sorry, two weeks ago against
Cal they only put up seventeen, but before that thirty four,
seventy three, thirty eight to twenty eight.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
Then you look at Syracuse.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
They go out there and put up points every twenty
four against NC State last week, forty four against UNLV,
forty two against holy Cross, thirty one against Georgia Tech.
So I think this game is a shootout and a
really underrated game for this week. And that's why I
said it's such a good slate overall, because some people
are gonna look right past this one. But things shake
right pits right there in the playoff conversation as well
(19:19):
in the acc.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
You got to take from any ld ODU game versus
Georgia Southern and ODU rolling out some awesome uniforms. I
believe this.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
Week is that tomorrow night as well.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
That is tomorrow night. It's a point spread one point.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
Georgia Southern has been putting up a lot of points
this year.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
I remember at the beginning of the year they played.
Speaker 3 (19:40):
Boise I think it was, and then they ca Yeah,
and they've been putting up some some points. That might
be another game. Look at the over Old Dominion's a
surprise team. They were I think like an over underwin
total of two and a half. So see them getting
a point and a half at home here a little interesting,
have some fun on Thursday, take take both overs.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
Think we get to play that.
Speaker 1 (20:01):
He had three and four Old Dominion on the season,
Georgia Southern five and two. All right, let's get the
Friday nights games and the big one of course, features
the college football Heisman Trophy front runner and Ashton Janet
going for Boise State plus two twenty right now to
take home the award in December, Tomorrow night or Friday night.
(20:24):
Excuse me, Poise State on the road against you N,
L v U and LV six and one on the season,
two and zero in the conference here once again DraftKings Sports.
But we were getting their numbers from three and a half.
I think I saw here be three and a half
point spread fourth, excuse me? Down to three now Poise
State three point favorite road sixty four total. Ashton j
(20:45):
and T's average in two hundred and eighteen yards per game.
He's just an absolute beast. Had the bye week going
to be ready for this one, but maybe Friday night
magic out there in the desert.
Speaker 3 (20:55):
Your thoughts, Yeah, Game of the year in the G five,
unless we wind up get an undefeated Army versusn undefeated
Navy in the American Championship. I think this one has
a very good chance to be kind of the decider
because whoever loses this game, I think is out. I
think it's going to be really hard to be a
two loss team and get in from the G five,
and there's a chance of these two rematch down the
(21:17):
line in the Mountain West. So I think the winner
of this game would most likely have to win that
conference championship to be the G five team, And a
lot of people are going to be pulling for Boise
because of Johnty. I think every Power Conference team is
going to be saying the opposite, But this one should
be a really good one. Just looking at Johnt's numbers,
just to give him a little bit more credit, three
(21:39):
hundred and forty seven rushing yards and fourteen rushing touchdowns
on two hundred and twenty carries last season total, which
is a great year in itself. This year, hundred and
forty eight rushing yards, seventeen rushing touchdowns on only one
hundred and twenty six carries. Just an insane tear. But
it's his toughest matchup potentially the year, tougher than Oregon.
You could say the eighteenth best rushing defense in the
(22:01):
country is UNLV, only allowing one hundred and four yards
per game on the ground. If they're able to hold
Jounty to a down game, which you know, could still
be like one hundred and fifty yards.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
I think they have a legit shot in this one.
Speaker 3 (22:13):
They just can't let them run for two fifty three
hundred and three touchdowns because UNLV can score UNLV as
an opportunistic defense, and they've just been a really good
team under Barriotom. I think that they're a live dog
in this one, but I would definitely take that plus
three and a half at home.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
Lob Dow lad Dow gonna be a fun one Friday night,
lights out there, and you n LV Rutgers USC. I'm
done with Rutgers. Don't even tell me take the thirteen
and a half. I don't want to hear. I'm done
with the Rutgers nonsense. If you're gonna talk to me
about that team of piscataway, it's gotta be on the
(22:48):
hardwood and the hardwood only.
Speaker 3 (22:51):
I think it's more of a if you're gonna bet
that game, you're betting against USC, then you're betting on Rutgers.
Speaker 1 (22:58):
Because I don't think we're team and a half.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
I think the.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
USC hasn't done anything over these past few weeks to
be a fourteen, thirteen and a half point favorite over anyone,
and just the way Rutgers plays, if they're able to
maybe kind of control the style. That'll be a slower game,
you limit the possessions, and you maybe keep that under
ten points or so.
Speaker 2 (23:17):
I just don't think USC has deserved that at all.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
It's a tough spot for Rutgers, one of the first
kind of weird Big ten games going all the way
across the country. But USC now has really been struggling
in these past few weeks. So I would take Rutgers
plus thirteen and a half of if I was betting
that game, but it's probably a stay away from me.
Speaker 1 (23:34):
Yeah, USC has not been good this season. Four and
three ats and Rutgers three, three and one ats over there,
and that one once again thirteen and a half points
spread on DraftKings sports book. All right, let's get to
the big card, and that is on Saturday, and we
kick off bright and early with a great game out
there in Indiana six and a half point favorites taken
(23:57):
out Washington fifty three and a half. Washington has played
well in spots. They had a pretty good game against Michigan,
putting the record a side of Michigan understood, but that
was a big time win for them out there. This
one's a little different scenery in Indiana Noon kickoff your
thoughts in this game six and a half beef.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
Yeah, So, I think the main thing to point out
Curtis Rourke, the quarterback for Indiana's out in this one.
It sounds like he's going to be out the next
two weeks with a thumb injury. Jackson Davis the quarterback
there trace his younger brother from the Hoosiers. Fun fact there,
but he's more of a mobile quarterback, more of a runner,
and when he came in last week the offense was
(24:36):
still moving pretty well. Signetty had a running quarterback kind
of running the show for him last week or last
year at JMU with McLeod, So this could be an
opportunity to maybe even showcase at a different element of
this offense that we haven't seen with Rourke, who's much
more of a pocket passer type guy. I think Indiana
just continues to roll. I think they have as much
momentum as really any team, any program in the country.
(24:58):
They got game day going there, so that should be
a cool environment.
Speaker 2 (25:02):
But I really like the over in this one.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
Indiana the highest scoring offense in the country at forty
eight point seven points per game. Do I think they're
going to put up that number in this game. No,
but Washington no slash on offense either. I think Washington
can get two to three touchdowns in this one, and
Indiana should be able to do the rest. So I
like Indiana minus six and a half and I like
the over a fifty three and a half. I think
you could see this game, you know, played up in
(25:24):
the sixties, Indiana going like forty two to twenty one
something in that kind of ballpark.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
All right on to the next one at noon, Notre
Dame and Navy and met Life thirteen point spread, fifty
ones are total. Any chance Navy makes this a ball game?
And if so, that means they're going to cover that
big number. Where is Mark Henry Junior on this whole
Notre Dame discussion too? Because I is he back on
the train? It's there right Like Notre Dame, they just
(25:50):
continue to win. Imagine if they didn't have that one loss.
That's probably what he's saying to himself. But still in
the running playing of football to be played, they have one.
They haven't since that Lord of Illinoi's game in South Bend.
But here they are with a good game to get
everybody back on Notre Dame side. If they rolled Navy here,
(26:10):
it could be pretty beneficial for the Irish of course.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
Yeah, it's funny to when you look at the Northern
the Northern Illinois game, you're like, all right, they're dead
because the schedule's not great. From there on, it was
like USC which was kind of like, what are they
going to be? Florida State obviously, who's been probably the
most disappointing team in the country. And then you're like, oh,
we got easy wins against Army and Navy. Now you
fast forward to the middle point of the season, these
(26:35):
are two chances to be some really good resume building
wins against undefeated teams.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
Potentially. I think Navy, though, can give them a battle
in this game. Why not.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
They've been dominant against just about everyone they've played. Blake
Corvath has been a monster at quarterback for the Midshipman.
Has thrown for eight hundred and eighty eight yards and
ten touchdowns, which is really surprising because of you know,
Navy's history on offense running the option. They've opened it
up in the passing game a little bit. An He's
six hundred and twenty one yards and ten touchdowns on
(27:06):
the ground. This is not an easy offense to prepare for.
I mean, they've been able to score a lot. Like
when you think service academies, you think lower scoring. They
just run the ball down the field. They've been putting
off points left and right this season, and Notre Dame
has shown the ability to score a lot as well.
So I think this game could wind up being like
a sneaky high scoring affair, but I definitely like Navy
to keep it within the number.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
Riding high on momentum.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
I think they're undefeated still against the spread going into
this game, so I think Navy gives Notre Dame a
real shot in this one, and I wouldn't be surprised
if they won it outright, because Notre Dame has been
a little bit finicky in some of these games against
you know, not Power conference opponents, so they've allowed Illinois
to beat them. They had another game against the MAC
team that was decently close as well.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
All Right, we got a lot of really good games
in the early window here. On Saturday, Nebraska to Ohio State,
give me thirty seconds on that. Any chance Nebraska rebounds,
and rule has been ready to go for that one.
It's a twenty five and a half point spread.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
Yeah, it's a huge number. A game that I probably
wouldn't touch.
Speaker 3 (28:07):
I think if I was going to take anything, I
would probably take the under in it at forty eight
and a half. Nebraska's defense so got absolutely shredded last week,
but I think it kind of says more about O
High States defense and Nebraska skill still has some.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
Work to do on offense going forward. With Ryola and
kind of this new regime.
Speaker 3 (28:24):
We might have been a little bit too early on them,
but next year could be a breakout year. But if
you're making me a pick, a making me take a
pick in that game, I'll go with the under of
forty eight and a.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
Half thirty seconds on Oklahoma Ole Miss. Ole Miss, with
two losses on the season minus twenty forty nine is
are total a game being played down there in the grove.
Speaker 3 (28:44):
I don't know, I don't have the number in front
of me, but Oklahoma team total under. They can't block,
they can't throw, they can't run. They're just a terrible
team on the offensive side of the ball right now.
Ole Miss, I think what they do best is that
defensive front. I think they're really gonna get after Jackson
Arnold and that Oklahoma offense. So okay, at the Oklahoma
team total under it's probably something like seventeen and a half.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
I'd say in that ballpark. A lot of trouble in
Norman right now.
Speaker 1 (29:12):
Tell you truth, it's even less than that beef right
now in DraftKings sportsbook under thirteen and a half minus
one fifteen, under twelve and a half plus one fifteen.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
Jeez, and they just fired the offensive coordinator too.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
Sometimes you think maybe they'll give them a little bit
of a bump, but there's just no belief in them
right now.
Speaker 1 (29:31):
You can't get me two touchdowns down there. Good grief,
all right, next one up. Let's keep it moving here
we have. Let's go to a little bit later in
the day. Let's go to normber one, Oregon at home
taking on Illinois. Oregon's been putting it together, and I'm
starting to believe that they could be a national champion
(29:54):
this year. After it's all said done. That team looks
like and I heard somebody say that this is the
best Oregon team that ever been put together in program history.
That's a statement. They're undefeated. They got a big win
over Ohio State twenty one point spread. Any chance for
Illinois to keep this one close?
Speaker 2 (30:12):
Yeah, this one was the when I looked at the
lines when they first came out this week, it opened
at twenty five. I was surprised to see that number
kind of jump off the board. When you look at
Oregon and Penn State, though, do you really think Oregon
is that much better than Penn State? Because I think
Penn State was like a seventeen point favorite when they
played Illinois, and I think Illinois has kind of shown
(30:33):
you a little bit more since then. The thing with Illinois,
they don't really harm themselves. They take really good care
of the football. Ultimaier, the quarterback has only thrown one
interception all year. It's a team that isn't going to
be in afraid of the environment. They went to Nebraska
in one, They've already gone to Penn State, so they've
dealt with a dangerous night crowd before. They just beat Michigan.
(30:56):
I know that's not saying much this year, but still
that's a program kind of building win.
Speaker 3 (31:00):
These guys got some confidence right now. I definitely think
that they can keep it within twenty one and a half.
You look at Oregon. Coming off the game against Purdue
last week, the Oregon defense has been really good. I
think the under could be in play in this one
as well at fifty four and a half. But I
think Illinois is getting subbed on and disrespected. I think
they can definitely keep it within three touchdowns.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
All right, nice little segue talking about teams possibly being
slept on. Missouri one loss on the season. They're catching
fifteen on the road in Alabama. It's fifteen too many
points in your mind.
Speaker 3 (31:34):
Beef, I do think it is too many points. I'll
give a little bit of a Missouri spiel here to
begin with. I was so high on them coming into
the year because I had a lot of guys returning.
You thought that the roster retention would help them out
in a really easy schedule. If they're able to sneak
this game from Alabama, it wouldn't really be I guess
sneaking in. It would be a pretty shocking upset according
(31:57):
to the points bread there. But they're gonna go eleven
and one most likely. They have a really easy schedule
coming up. They host Oklahoma to South Carolina that could
be a tough one.
Speaker 2 (32:07):
By then to Mississippi, State and host Arkansas.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
Despite not looking that great, there's still a path there
for Missou to be eleven and one.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
And who's Alabama to be.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
This big of a favorite over anyone right now? They're
going to be playing pissed off and probably if they
lose Alabama, de Bor is going to be chased out
of the stadium on Saturday afternoon with pitchforks. But Missouri,
I think this is their super Bowl. Any chance they
have at the playoff, they need to win this game.
So I think that they give them a good fight
in this one. They had a great comeback win against
(32:37):
Auburn last week. I think that they could go down
to Tuscaluca and keep this one close. I like a
lot of dogs this week.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
Oh yeah, the dogs are barking in a big way
so far. On Beef up Front out here on October
twenty third, Ryan beefquil Sean Brace talking to all things
college football, trying to hit on all the big games
coming your way here on of course to Friday and
a Saturday. Get involved in the Converse station at Fox
PHL Gamble. We're going to keep it moving. Let's talk
(33:04):
about Texas and Vandy here this one's at four fifteen. Vanderbilt, Man,
this team will get you, But I think that shine
is off at this point in time. There's no sneak
attack anymore. Vandy is the real deal. But what are
we talking about with Texas here? Eighteen and a half
point road favorites in Vanderbilt a little too many points
there at the dog's barking in this one in your mind?
Speaker 3 (33:25):
Yeah, started off with it's just great to see Vanderbilt
that number next to their name in the chaotic college
football season that we've had so far, for them to
find a way to make a name for themselves has
been pretty.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
Cool to see. And Diego Pavey has been one of
the great stories.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
But I think when you're looking at this game, you
gotta think Vandy's pretty much playing with house money. Confidence
is sky high, Like, what do they really have to lose?
No one even expected them to. They already surpassed their
over under win total, their one win away from going
to a bowl game. This is going to be right
up there with Alabama as one of the greatest atmospheres
(34:02):
in Vandy history, probably maybe even better. With Texas coming
to town, and you got to think it's Texas in
a little bit of disarray.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
Like we said, is Quinn still the full time quarterback?
Speaker 3 (34:12):
Is it arch time? What do we make of that
situation last week with Texas? I still you look at
the roster, they're much better up and down the board.
But almost three touchdowns in this one. Can Vanderbilt kind
of keep it under that? That was a, for lack
of a better term, a kick in the balls game
for Texas last week after they were riding high and
(34:33):
kind of the crown jewel of college football going into
that week. How do they bounce back? We haven't seen
that from this team yet this year, having to face
some adversity. So look for Vandy to maybe keep this
one closed, especially in the first half, come out punching.
Maybe look at a little first half spread there. But
I do think Texas is eventually gonna win the football game, all.
Speaker 1 (34:51):
Right, excellent stuff, Beef. Yeah, I'm right there with you.
Of Bevandy trying to keep it close. I think it's
a great story. But Texas is definitely going to win
that game. And if I don't think that you can
win as an underdog, maybe I probably am better off
staying away from you completely. Should be a good game though.
We'll see what happens there, all right. How about Miami
speaking a good games? Probably the game of the week
(35:13):
last week against Louisvio. More of the same from Miami
with the fireworks, and I think they totally about fifty
two points. They got a game coming up against Florida State,
definitely a rivalry, but Florida State not living up to
the hype this year. Is this gonna get ugly for
you in your mind?
Speaker 2 (35:30):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (35:30):
The bet I had written down for this one is
Miami team total over thirty eight and a half was
plus one oh five and I think thirty nine and
a half was plus one fifteen. I think at this
stage with Miami, you just kind of got to look
at that. Maybe the game over because the defense hasn't
been able to stop anyone. But you know, as Brock,
do you really want to bet on Brock Glen and
(35:50):
Florida State's offensive got there and score points. You look
at Miami fifty two, thirty nine, thirty eight, fifty sixty two.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
Even against Florida they had it in forties as well.
I believe it was.
Speaker 3 (36:01):
So the Miami team total over and the way that
Cam wore has been playing and slinging the ball around
the yard, not afraid to put money on that team.
Speaker 2 (36:09):
You go out there and score some points, and.
Speaker 3 (36:11):
I'd feel much more comfortable betting on them to do
it than hoping for them in Florida State to do it.
Speaker 1 (36:16):
Together understood, Penn State Wisconsin. That's a six and a
half point favored line for the Nitney Lions on the
road in Wisconsin's seven to thirty start time. Could be
an interesting game for Penn State if they mess around,
But Wisconsin putting a little bit too much stock into
their side of things. Where are you at in this one, Beef?
Speaker 3 (36:37):
I think Wisconsin's been a team since that Alabama game
that has gradually gotten better and improved, and you know,
I think definitely more confidence now in what Fickle's doing there.
Speaker 2 (36:49):
I'm very torn on this game.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
It's probably a game that I'm not gonna touch because
I think Penn State is a better team. But this
is a bad spot for them to go to night
game at Camp Randall. Really the last chance for Wisconsin
maybe to get a big time win on their schedule
this year, and then Penn State has the game against
Ohio State next week.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
It's your classic look ahead spot.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
Penn State could drop this one and then all confidence
kind of gone going into the Ohio State game.
Speaker 2 (37:18):
Or they go out.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
There and they roll in this one, and they're rolling
into that Ohio State game. Maybe even depending on the
outcome of this game, they're a favorite in that game
at at Beaver Stadium. So there's a lot of variables
going into this one. You make me take a pick.
I'm gonna go with Penn State because Franklin as a favorite.
Speaker 2 (37:37):
Has been really good fifty eight to forty two and three.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
I believe it is against the spread as a favorite
at Penn State, so he's been good in these spots.
He struggled in the underdog spots and kind of winning
those big games. But it would be a James Franklin
type thing to lose going into the Ohio State game,
which is I think you can make an argument the
biggest game of his tenure at Ohio State because they
win that one, or excuse me, at Penn State when
that one, they're in the driver's seat going to the
(38:02):
Big Ten title game.
Speaker 1 (38:04):
All right, Kansas States does a lot to play for.
There's six and one on the season. A and M
has a lot to play for. There's six and one
on the season. Duke SMU, they have a lot to
play for. There's six and one on the season. Look,
every one of these games are just tremendous. And those
are only the top twenty five matchups. There those only
ranked opponents. You know, there's still plenty of other games
(38:26):
that have meaning as well. Here, So putting a bow
on this bad boy, let's hit you with some rapid
fire questions. Better shot for an upset, Let's go with
Kansas over Kansas State or LSU over A and M.
Speaker 3 (38:47):
Definitely would go LSU or right and Kansas been one
of the more disappointing teams in the country this year.
And I think Texas A and M at home is
a little bit of a myth. Maybe they haven't really
been that great on paper. Give credit to both LSU
and Texas A and M disappointing losses as favorites in
Week one, and they didn't really let that define their season.
Speaker 2 (39:07):
They've gotten better and better.
Speaker 3 (39:08):
And as I said, you look at their schedules, LSU
and Texas A and M could be in the driver's
seat the winner of this game to go to the
SEC title. So a huge one there, But I'm gonna
go with LSU. I like the quarterback nes Meyer and
trust him with the ball in his hands at the
end of.
Speaker 1 (39:22):
The day, all Right, Duke has some pretty good wins
and so do so does SMU. But you know, look,
this is a game that I think offense is gonna
speak more than anything. First of all, line on DraftKings
sportsbook for Duke and SMU game being played on Saturday
night at eight pm. SCU a twelve point favorite in Durham.
(39:45):
Forty eight and a half is our total there. That's
downright disrespectful for Duke, but it makes sense because SMU
has scored thirty four plus points in four straight games. Oh,
by the way, won all four of those games. They
have a lot to build off of this season, really
found their form from the preseason height that we were
giving them to Andy was giving them. But this is
(40:07):
an interesting game because obviously both teams have a lot
to play for your thoughts in this one.
Speaker 3 (40:11):
Beef, Yeah, SMU definitely more of a legitate squad, and
I think the points spread indicates that you look at Duke.
Speaker 2 (40:18):
Not many great wins.
Speaker 3 (40:19):
I mean, they lose to Georgia Tech that's their one
loss win over Florida State. Great for the Duke program,
that's their first win over Florida State in school history.
But we know if Florida State has been this year,
you and hasn't been good. Middle Tennessee hasn't been good.
Yukon's been solid, but still that's Yukon. I think SMU
is a much better team, and I think the Duke
defense is good, but I think SMU's offense is the
(40:41):
best that they're they're going to see this year. And
I don't think Duke's offense on their own right is
going to be able to kind of compete score for
score with SMU. So it's another game where I would
maybe look at the SMU team total in this one.
Speaker 2 (40:52):
But I do think SMU is going to win this
one and win it pretty comfortably.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
Mom. Man, Ryan beef Coyle another edition of Beef up Front,
hopefully coming home with a couple of victories here. Like
I said, man, it's just crazy because you go down
the list of all these teams, like, yeah, of course
you got your top twelve in there that features you know,
Texas and Tennessee and Indiana and Ohio State, But then
you got to go in and check out. The teams
(41:17):
are on the outside looking in, like like Notre Dame,
Iowa State, Kansas State, Illinois, A and M. You know,
and at this point in time, Pitt, Who's undefeated. It's crazy.
So these are the things that will work themselves out
over the next few weeks. But we'll be all over
it no matter what. So I look forward to covering
(41:39):
college football until we crown a champion in a January
beef coil anything else before we get out of here.
Speaker 3 (41:44):
Sir, that's it, and enjoy the slate. It's week nine already,
hard to believe. And next time we'll be talking it'll
be the next games will be in November. So we're
coming down the stretch.
Speaker 1 (41:56):
I actually got one more for you, because I lied
to you. We do have a Hawaii game late late,
late night. So if I'm chasing, if we're chasing in
the tens in the midnight game, where are you going?
Cincinnati Colorado? Colorado five and a half at home Washington State,
San Diego State. That's a fourteen point spread for Wazoo
in Nevada and Hawaii. Nevada is a point favorite in
(42:19):
that one game at midnight in Hawaii. Your thoughts on
those three games as far as if we're chasing, where
you going?
Speaker 3 (42:25):
Give me Colorado, Man, They've been impressive. They're sitting there
at five and two, one went away from Bowl eligibility
minus five at home. Cincinnati's been pretty good, sneakily as well,
sitting there at five and two. But Colorado has been
good and I was one of the more I guess
you'd say haters on Colorado and thought they would be
more of a three to four win team. Good for
(42:46):
them in the season that they've had a big opportunity
to get get to Bowl eligibility at home on Saturday night,
I think they do it and win by a touchdown.
Speaker 1 (42:55):
As to say the Chiefs off this weekend, they're not.
They're taking on their eighties. You might have saw Travis
Kelcey on the sideline, who knows they're playing in Vegas,
so maybe Kelsey would fly to Colorado to see the
game fly back. I want to put it past them
and nobody would carry either beef. Enjoy the game, sir.
