Speaker 1 (00:00):
Gordon Bird here with Beyond the News. Wednesday is August thirteenth,
and that's eight one three day. If that's not already
obvious to you, of course, it's also Tapa's area code
eight one to three. That means a day of celebration
of Tapa and Hillsborough County going on Wednesday. Several events
and offers are going on to recognize the day. We've
got Curtis Kellogg with us. He's director of public relations
(00:22):
with Visit Tampa Bay, and we're going to talk about
what's happening to honor eight one to three day. Curtis Kellogg,
thank you very much. Welcome to Beyond the News.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Hey, thank you for having me. Gordon.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Well, first of all, there are a number of events,
but let's go out of our way to mention that
you're having your own little event going on at Visit
Tampa Bay's offices in downtown Tapa.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
That's right from eleven thirty to one thirty tomorrow on today,
Wednesday afternoon, we are going to have our eight one
to three day bash, and we're going to have more
than thirty vendors here, whether some of them offering food,
some of them offering deals, there's gonna be live music,
and it's just a chance for everyone to come down
and you know, kind of recognize and share together how
(01:03):
lucky we are to live and work in such a
vibrant location, you know, place that people want to come
and people want to live, and so where mind everybody
down to come celebrate with us and our partners and
our businesses and you know, experience everything that makes Tampa
a unique culture and such a great place to be.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
This has fallen in a lot of places to organizations
that focus on tourism to promote these days that match
up with area codes. I'm sure that that's part of
your mission as far as promoting the area. And also
is it not a chance to say thanks to all
the locals who help support the visitors and that aspect
(01:44):
of it that brings so much to our economy.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Very much so. The great thing about living here in
Tampa Bay we are very blessed to have such a
great environment, a great local business scene, a great community
with such a great history, and those of us that
live here we know that and we've been lucky enough
to ammini instance to share that with visitors. But I
think what's unique about Tampa I always tell people is
(02:08):
that it's such an organic environment whether you are from here,
whether you're visiting here, and our partners and our businesses
and our community leaders all come together to welcome you,
no matter whether you're from Brandon right up the road,
or whether you're you know, from some other state or
some other country. And I'll tell you what, because everybody's
(02:29):
so welcoming. It's interesting to see that whole mix together
all the time. But when we bring them here's a
chance to promote local businesses. It chance to promote our
local economy, and locals and visitors alike benefit from that,
particularly our local businesses and our small businesses.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Now, in addition to what you're doing, there are also
some events going on involving Tampa Downtown Partnership and some
other locations. What do you know about those?
Speaker 2 (02:55):
So besides our thirty three vendors that we're going to
have here in our food and live music, and oh,
by the way, we're going to have some of the
mascots Raymond and so Lay and Rocky from USF we're
going to have them here as well. But if you
can't make it to hour from eleven thirty to one thirty,
understanding that's not fitting in everybody's schedules. The Tampa Downtown
Partnership is going to be having an event from seven
(03:17):
pm or excuse me, five to seven, and the Sparkman
Wharf is also going to be having one from five
to eight. So if you can't make it there, go
to visit Tampa Bay dot com and look for eight
one to three day and you'll be able to get
the details on all those. But they're also partners and
they're going to have lots of vendors, lots of local businesses,
and lots of ways that you can support those folks
(03:38):
that work real hard to make eight one and three
such an inviting place to live and work.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
And just before we started this recording, I just got
noticed that the City of Tampa is doing an event
of its own of sorts a little bit of a
different nature. They're going to be inviting people to participate
in a cleanup on the riverfront Wednesday morning, and that
involves paddlers and kayaks. They're sending out their skimmer trash
both that you've probably seen, and it's such a support
(04:02):
with the support of several organizations including Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful. Now,
if you're not able to be part of any of
these events, there are still opportunities for you to observe
the day and celebrate eight one to three day as
various businesses are offering deals.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
That's right. Certainly there's a lot in the community that
want to give back in showcase how much they love
living in this area. I tell you what. You can
go to visit Tampa Bay dot com again, search for
a one to three day and you will find that
we have over sixty vendors listed on our website that
are offering deals. And you don't have to come to
the eight one to three day bash at Visit Tampa
(04:38):
Bay or the Sparkman Wharf event or anything else. If
you can't make it, we want you to come to
those because the more people to marry to celebrate this.
But if you can't do it, there's still tons of
ways that you can recognize, you know, living in the
Tampa Bay area and you know, throw your hands up
and whoop whoop, and give all that back to the
community and give it back to local businesses because they're
certainly trying to make it worth your while to come
(05:00):
and stop by and see them.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
A lot going on involving a lot of people who
love where they live. Curtis Kellogg is director of public
Relations with Visit Tampa Bay and thank you very much
for joining us on beyond the News.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Thank you Gordon
