Speaker 1 (00:01):
In its earliest days, the major function of radio was news.
Going on here, beautiful, let everybody go. Why don't you
put on a show and charge it mission? Okay, so
(00:23):
I would say something with music. I'm commenting now you're talking.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
It will be a show for everyone who loves music
and murder.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
Coming on, chaps, we gotta take show to dude. Showtime.
Are you ready? I'm ready? Job away we go. Good
morning to you. It's finally Friday, Friday. Friday Friday. Adam
Peters is gonna be on the show in the eight
o'clock hour this morning. We'll talk about that Carolina winning
(00:54):
talk about the Bears game coming up this weekend. Jade
and Daniel still listed as questionable. Hopefully we'll get an
update a little bit later this morning. We are going
to give away one last pair of tickets to that
game as well, and we also have tso tickets to
give away for the big word of the week. So
we're gonna wrap that up at about seven to twenty
this morning, give you the final letter, and Tim Murray
(01:18):
is going to be on the show shortly here too,
to get your wagers straight for the weekend. All right,
stick around, It's DC's classic rock Big one hundred. Tim
Murray from The Big Wager joins us on the show
this morning. Tim, how you doing, Bud? I'm good, hoping
that everyone else in that town is good, specifically Jayden Daniels. Yes, yes, yeah,
(01:39):
Well you know, the update yesterday was he did not practice.
I think dan Quinn used the word hopeful for this
weekend and another update coming Friday morning. What are your thoughts?
You think he'll play or you think they'll rest him.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
I mean, we all don't really know, but usually I
like to look at the betty market as a little
bit of a guide, and the betting market is telling
us that he's not going to play.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Don't have Bears by three.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
They had the Bears two and a half or three
point favorites DraftKings at three other shops at two and
a half, And usually that's a little bit of an
indicator that they are anticipating him not to play.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Now, he certainly could play.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
It's not you know, Vegas and odds makers aren't infallible,
but that is was a bit of an indicator saying eh,
probably probably not ideal.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
Yeah, yeah, hey, I had to go against you last
week just so you know you said you liked the
San Francisco. Yeah, well you were right. I went with
Kansas City I want some Money. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
It was uh, I mean it's it's one of it
was one of those spots where you know, it seemed
it seems like it was the perfect perfect spot for
San Francisco. Line went off around two and a half. Fact,
we talked, and you were right. A lot of people
were right.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
I was. I was wrong. Well here's what I did.
Here's what I did. Because I've been I've been doing
the like the opposite thing. I was like, man, I
should just start picking the opposite of what I think.
And I was gonna pick the forty nine ers. I
had it. I was ready to do it, and I went,
you know what, just as an experiment, let me so.
It wasn't like I put too much thought into it.
(03:24):
And I got lucky. What what do you think on
this Commander's game? Would you put any money on it?
Or I mean I really wouldn't. You know?
Speaker 3 (03:32):
You look at the total is down to forty three,
forty three and a half.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
You look at the point spread.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
You know at three I still would be inclined to
look at Washington here. Yeah, you know it's it's Marcus Mariota,
if that is the case, and not Jayden Daniels. We
certainly could look at some props, but I know it
was the Carolina Panthers. But Marcus Mariota came in and
looked pretty good. So I guess I don't want to
(03:59):
put too much stock into just a little bit of
what we saw there. But yeah, it was at three.
You know, once again, Chicago's coming up by Washington. You know,
played last week against Carolina, so there's certainly a rest
advantage for Chicago. Yeah, but I think at three, I
think I have to look at Washington a little bit here.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
Yeah, I feel like once Mariota knocked the rest off,
you know, because he's not getting a lot of reps
with that first team. Well, I feel like once he
knocked the rest off, he looked pretty good. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
No, I agree, And that's the reason Washington went out
and got him. Now, it was certainly a bit of
an insurance policy hoping that you know, you look at him,
and we didn't know that Jade Daniels was be this
good this fast, So certainly Washington was thrilled to see that.
But yeah, this is certainly a spot that we were
(04:53):
hoping would not be the case, but unfortunately it is
the case. So we we have to to figure out
how to live our.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
Lives right now with an injured quarterback. There you go.
So what other games you're looking at this weekend? Yeah,
I mean.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
There is part of me wondering how does Cleveland respond
now that Shaun Watson is out? Ye, Baltimore has looked
just so great with everything going there, So there is
a little bit of part of me saying, all right,
is this is this the spot that you know to
back Cleveland?
Speaker 1 (05:33):
You know, Kevin.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Stefanski said he's not gonna be call him plays anymore.
The head coach of Cleveland, They're going to Jameis Winston.
So maybe the ultimate hold your nose spot Cleveland as
a nine point underdog at home against Baltimore, who is
you know, looked every bit the part as one of
the best teams, if not the best team in the NFL.
(05:55):
So that game is pretty interesting to me. There's another
game that you know, if you like ugly dogs here
in Las Vegas. Vegas is a ten point underdog against
Kansas City and the Raiders have actually had some success.
Believe it or not against the Kansas City chief Last Christmas,
they went out and they beat the Kansas City Chiefs.
(06:17):
So that was you know, that was certainly a pretty
impressive performance, you know, not too long ago of the
of the Las Vegas Raiders. So yeah, couple ugly dogs
jumping out to me a little bit.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
Well, and I tell you, Kansas City, I mean, they're
they're still undefeated. You got to wonder when that when
that loss is going to come. And if you look
at the stats. We were talking to Mike Florio about
this earlier this morning, it's not like Kansas City's killing
it on the stat sheet, right, They're they're winning games,
but you look at it and go, how did they
win that game?
Speaker 2 (06:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Right, not, So you might be onto something there with
maybe this is the week that they drop one.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Yeah, I mean, I don't know if they'll drop it
to Las Vegas, but you know, as a ten point
road favorite, certainly something that that could be uh of
interest there. And you know, we've we've talked a lot
about it on the Big Wager, about these big underdogs
and how they've fared so far this year across the NFL.
So yeah, it's it's a It's an interesting week, needless
(07:17):
to say, when you look at the point spreads across
UH across the league. But yeah, curious about Cleveland because
I do like that defense quite a bit.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
But are they able to put.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
Something together from a from an offensive standpoint there Winston, Yeah,
to get it going with Jameis Winston.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
Yeah, that that'll be an interesting game. That'll be just
a fun game to watch. Although I gotta tell you
I watched I saw something that maybe it was on
TikTok this morning or instagram of Derrick Henry running sprints
uphill right now. Not only is he running sprints uphill,
but he's running sprints uphill with like a defender in
front of him, so he's making cuts. That man runs
(07:58):
faster uphill than I do downhill on a windy day.
It was. It was really impressive. It's like it's just
a stud.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
The thing that is pretty wild about the Baltimore Ravens
this year.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
I think they're the best team in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
Yeah, And Derrick Henry is the betting favorite to win
Offensive Player of the Year and Lamar Jackson's the favorite
to win MVP. They have got quite the dynamic duo
in that backfield.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
How does Jaden fair in that? I know it's early,
but there was lots of talk, you know that everybody's
talking about rookie, rookie, this, rookie that. But some people
were like, you might be looking at an MVP.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
Yeah, I mean with the injury coming, you know that
hurts it. But right now when you look at MVP
Jaden Daniels at DraftKings is seventeen to one, so he
would be the seventh option out there, He Joe Burrow,
Sam Darnold all seventeen to one. Yeah, Offensive Rookie of
(08:58):
the Year is certainly an interesting race now that Jade
and Daniels, as you would expect, is the favorite at
minus one forty five. But Caleb Williams coming to town
this week, certainly many people remember him not only from
you know, USC and winning the Heisman Trophy, but his
ties locally being from Bowie and going to Gonzaga. But
(09:21):
he's down at plus one fifteen, and if he plays
and Jaden doesn't, ye, you would imagine that he would
more than likely become the betting favorite. Not to say
that that's the be all end all. They got to
play the whole season, but the odds would likely shift
in favor of Caleb Williams if he does play on
Sunday and Jade and Daniels is indeed held.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
Out there and he does. He seems to be getting
better every week.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
His last game against the Jacksonville Jaguars was his best.
He was very good over in London through four touchdowns
and yeah, he is. He's starting to look he's starting
to look the part too. It does feel like the
top two picks in the NFL APT from this past
year are both going to be hits for their respective franchise.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
Well, I would love to see, you know, I want
him to do whatever's best for Jaydon because obviously we
want to see him play for a long time. But boy,
I was looking forward to that game. Oh, there's no doubt,
you know. It's just disappointing. But we'll see, we'll see.
Still a chance, Tim Murray, you can catch a big
wager ahead of games right here on Big one hundred
is part of pregame And thank you, Tim. Always appreciate
(10:25):
your insight. Man, Absolutely all right, Buddy DC's classic Karrack.
It's Big one hundred. There's a photograph from def Leppard
Jackson here Good Morning, six thirty eight. Ten. Four things
I know Yankees and the Dodgers, who have not met
in the World Series since the Dodgers defeated the Yankees
in nineteen eighty one, But it's actually the most common
(10:48):
matchup of all time. Two teams have met in the
World Series eleven times Yankee Yankees one to eight of those, yeah,
one three. Woodrow Wilson the only president who earned a doctorate.
He got a PhD in history and political science from
Johns Hopkins University. The DC and DC Comics originally stood
(11:16):
for Detective Comics, so the full name of the company
is technically Detective Comics Comics. And the song Smack My
Bitch Up Prodigy. We were just talking about this song.
Why were we talking about It was banned at Walmart?
Speaker 2 (11:37):
Yeah, And I said that I used that as as
my show opening music for years, like ten years I
used it.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
Yeah. So we're talking about records that at one time
were like banned at Walmart, and that was one of them.
And it was simply for that song on the record,
that's my Prodigy. And the song only has six words
in it, six different words, and it has five songwriter credits,
(12:05):
six words five songwriter credits four words. I don't know.
There must be a couple more in there somewhere. Google
the lyrics. I don't know, and I finally I saw
this this morning. A male clinic study found that standing
on one leg is a good indicator of how fast
you're aging. If you can stand on your non dominant
(12:25):
leg for thirty seconds, you're not old yet. They had
people try to balance on one leg for thirty seconds,
and it was not a problem for young people. But
for every decade you take on, your ability to do
it decrease by your own two seconds. And now we
got to both try to stand on our left leg
for thirty seconds. It's see what happens. They found it
(12:47):
was the best predictor for how long people could do
it was to use the non dominant leg, so not
the leg that well. I mean, you can figure out
what non dominant leg is. If you can balance for
at least thirty seconds without much trouble, you're not quite
over the hill yet. If you can't, you start looking
(13:09):
at burial plats. I guess, I don't know. Maybe if
you can do it with your eyes closed, it's sign
you're healthier. I have tried that that's difficult. Stand on
one leg, stand on one leg, and then close your eyes.
I've done it on the It's hard. It became kind
of like one of those things. I was like, I
have to be able to do this. You know the
I don't even know what they're called. That like half
(13:29):
balls at the gym. It's flat on the bottom. It's
like a balance ball, but it's just half a one right,
and you can stand on it and do stuff and
check your balance. Stand on one of those with one leg. Okay,
so lift one leg up, Just stand on one leg.
Not bad, right, you balance around. It's kind of tough.
Then close your eyes. Holy crap, it gets hard. Well
that's I don't think I've ever tried try it. It's
(13:52):
because you'll become obsessed with wanting to do it. Because
I was like, God, damn it, I'll close my eyes
and for about ten seconds you're like, I'm good, I'm good. No,
no crap is you know? Your eyes are a big
part of helping you keep balance. It's try you should
try it.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
Incidentally, the other two words, yeah, change and pitch.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
Oh, change and pitch and smack my bitch up right
there you go. Five song writer credits. It took five
people to rate that piece of music, that that masterpiece.
All right, it is six forty two DC's Classic Rock.
It's Big one hundred.
Speaker 5 (14:30):
Wb I g FM Washington and iHeartRadio Station, Live from
the Nation's Capital. This is Big Rock Mornings with Jackson
on Big one hundred DC's Classic Rock.
Speaker 6 (14:42):
Dang, Good morning to you.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
It is seven o'clock. Adam Peters coming up on the
show about eight thirty this morning. One last pair of
tickets to give away for the game this weekend against
the Bears, and we'll also wrap up the big word
of the week at about seven to twenty this morning.
It's going to be your chance to win Trans Siberian
Orchestra tickets. Stick around. It's DC's Classic Rock, Big one hundred,
DC's Classic Rock Kids, Big one hundred under pressure. Hey,
(15:06):
if do you like racing leaves? I do like raking leaves.
You don't have to do anymore. They say, well, why this, Adam,
Huh this, Adam? I hate raking leaves. Really well, I
have nine thousand trees and the very first year I
was in my house going way way way back. It's
like I'm not paying somebody to break leaves. No, I'll
(15:29):
rake and bag these. We'd like nine thousand trees.
Speaker 4 (15:32):
Well, bagging them is different.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
And dude, I was out there for like four days
and I couldn't walk. I back hurt, blisters all over
my hand. Oh my god. If it's a small area, yeah,
even just a backyard, I could do. But I I
bit off more than I could chew. And it was.
It was bad. And it was like seventy five bags
(15:56):
in my front yard. I'm like, I got done.
Speaker 4 (15:58):
I was like, never again, seventy five bags. I'd be
over there.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
Oh my god, it's seventy five of those like paper bags. Man.
The whole it was ridiculous. And I was like, that's it.
We're paying somebody, and now don't do anything. And I
just read this article out of Michigan Department of Natural
Resources is in the news encouraging people not to rake
their leaves. They say it's better for your yard's ecosystem.
This is that whole rewilding trend that has gotten popular lately,
(16:27):
where you let nature do its thing, you don't worry
about keeping your yard looking pretty. They send out an
email to residence this week that says if raking and
bagging fall leaves is an outdoor shore. You dread skip it.
Lots of bugs and critters live under those leaves in
the winter. Some are hiding, some are eating it. If
you prefer a tidy yard, they suggest raking just part
(16:50):
of it, but skipping the part around the trees and bushes,
because they say that's the most important and well looking.
Spend all week and watching football. You don't have to
rake it.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
Well, it happens to your yard in the spring though.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
If it's well. So I tried it last year, right,
I'm not going to go as far as some of
my neighbors. They get ridiculous, but I tried it last year.
It was fine. It was fine, and I saved you know,
five hundred bucks pan of landscape. But it comes. Spend
the whole day doing it.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
What'd your yard look like?
Speaker 1 (17:20):
Fine? Fine? Like they just you know, and then in
the spring when you start mowing again, the more picks up.
Any you know, leaves are junk that's laying around just disintegrates,
but you kind of leave it around the trees and
the bushes. It looks fine. It's fine. I'm like, all right,
I'm sticking with this for a while. Now my neighbors
different story. They are into the whole rewilding thing where
(17:43):
they don't even cut their lawn. Have you seen that? No,
that drives me batty. So they let the wild grass
grow and all the wild flowers grow, and it's like, yeah,
your yard looks like and a field next to an
abandoned warehouse. I mean, I would have a problem with that.
That And well here's what they do. They right down
(18:05):
the street from me, there's this guy. He lets the
wild grass grow like I don't like, like twelve sixteen
inches high, and then he just mows around the edge.
And I don't understand that. I don't know, I don't
know what that is. Maybe it's for the mail man,
maybe it's for I don't I really don't know to
never asked him, and I just every time I walk
(18:26):
by it and go. So he does a strip around
the edge of the yard along the curb long the street,
and then around the front of the yard long the
curb long street, and just that part is mode and
the rest is just wild and it's just got like
weeds and.
Speaker 4 (18:40):
That makes no logical sense whatsoever.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
Super tall, like you know how when grass gets really tall,
it gets like the seeds on it and up top.
I mean, he's just insane. Now occasionally he gets a
couple batches of like wildflowers or something in there. I'm like,
all right, cool, if I want to go hiking in
your yard.
Speaker 4 (18:57):
Flocks the soldiers hiding out and they don't know the
war is over.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
But there's a few people in my neighborhood that are
doing it. It's called rewilding. We just let it go. Well,
you're lazy, I would I would take issue with that,
but I do do the thing. Like I'll go out
there with the leaf blower and I'll blow it all
into the bushes and trees and you know, just keep
like the yard area not covered in leaves. But yeah,
(19:23):
last year I did it and it was fine. I'm
gonna do it again this year and see what happens.
We'll see.
Speaker 4 (19:27):
I can get into that, okay, I could. I see
your point on the leaves.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
I can get into that, and uh yeah, I never
I never want to bag those things.
Speaker 4 (19:35):
Here unkept grass though.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
Yeah, I don't even like English. So when I'm when
I'm home sweekend, I'll see if he's still doing it.
I'll take a picture of it. I'll send it to
you so you can see what I'm talking about. It it's
just crazy. Just it looks bad.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
Yeah, but see we're getting back to nature though. They're
getting back to nature, Nature's way, you know, it's just
the natural way.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
Let it grow. It is a seventh team coming up here.
We're going to give you another letter in the Big
Word of the week, and that's your final letter. That's
going to be your chance to win Trans Siberian Orchestra tickets.
And I want to talk about the giant pile of
poo on the national ball. I'm not making a giant pooh.
Speaker 4 (20:18):
It's bronze.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
Is bronze bron It's bronze. A giant bronze pooh on
the wall. If you want to see it, you gotta
to go see it, cause it's only gonna be there
for like a Week's good. It's pretty funny. We'll talk
about that coming up. What's funny is how people are
interpreting it. That's what I find super humorous. I will
talk about that coming Up's DC's Classic Rock, Big one hundred.
DC's Classic Rock. It's Big one hundred and we've got
(20:43):
some Trans Siberian Orchestra tickets to give away with the
big word of the week. Let's see if we can
get a winner.
Speaker 6 (20:47):
Hi.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
Who's this?
Speaker 6 (20:48):
Hi? Hi?
Speaker 1 (20:50):
How are you this morning? I'm good?
Speaker 2 (20:52):
How are you doing good?
Speaker 1 (20:53):
If you've been keeping track of the letters throughout the week,
I have fantastic if you know the word, We've got
Trans Siberian Orchestra tickets for you. What do you got?
I got rock Rocks is correct? Very good? Nice job
we are. We're gonna set you up with tickets for
Trans Siberian Orchestra just in time for Christmas. It's on
the twenty third of December. All right, awesome, thank you
(21:17):
so much. You bet hold on and we'll get you
all set up next week. I think we have another
pair of those to give away right here on DC's
Class Crock. It's big one hundred. DC's Class Crock. It
is big one hundred. Dan ac DC, Good morning to you. Adam.
Peter's coming up on the show about eight thirty this morning.
We'll chat about that to win over Carolina, we'll get
(21:38):
an update on Jid and Daniels hopefully, and talk about
the game this weekend against the Bears. Should you be
able to take a sick day to care for a
sick pet. I say yes, Yeah, I say yes, I
say yes. Thats are typically a member of the family.
Right in New York City might actually make that a thing.
(22:01):
New amendment would allow anyone to use sick days to
take care of their pet.
Speaker 4 (22:07):
I'm surprised you can't already do that. The what are
you supposed to do?
Speaker 1 (22:10):
Just like, yeah, I mean, you're at home and you're
gonna do it anyway. But it's just like its people
going to follow up, but you weren't really sick. My
iguana is not feeling well and I may need to
get out of here a few minutes if you don't mind.
Right now, you can only use them if you or
someone in your family is sick. But the basic argument
(22:33):
here is that pets are family. Now, if you've got
a decent human boss, you can probably already do this,
But this would make it written in the city's bylaws,
so companies would have to say it's okay. It's just
proposed this week, so it's not happening tomorrow, but it
(22:53):
could be in the future. I think it's a pretty
good idea. Again, I think if you have a boss
that is human, right, yeah, you can already.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
I'm surprised that that's not already.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
H I can already do this right. I'm just gonna
tell you, like, if you came in and said, my
dog is dying, what kind of jag out boss is
gonna say, Yeah, so get to work my problem. Yeah,
it's not the kind of place you want to work anyway,
God's sake.
Speaker 4 (23:22):
I mean, now, if my cat were dying.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
I'd probably be like, all right, man, it's about time.
Here we go, here we go, TikTok. Look. I loved
my cat. I did lived a good long twelve thirteen years.
He was a dick.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
He was are they are.
Speaker 1 (23:42):
He was not a friendly animal. He was nice to me.
He was not nice to anyone else though. He was
not a nice cat.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
My cat has this quality where, like, you know the
things that you typically think of as cat like features,
the gracefulness. My cat laughed all those things, like when
she when she jumps off something, instead of that shit.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
Yeah, my cat used to fall down all the time
to like trying to jump on something and miss just
come crashing down to the floor, Like you are not
graceful at all, not at all. Yeah. I saw this
thing on TikTok. If I still had a cat, I
would try this because I was fascinated by it. If
you ever tried to clip your cat's nails, okay, it's
(24:28):
almost impossible, almost impossible. I can't even brush her, almost impossible.
These guys were on TikTok and they were trying to
clip their cat's nails and they couldn't do it. And
they were showing with like two three different cats, and
they go, watch this, and now you have to put
the cat's scruff in your mouth like its mother would.
(24:49):
So they would they reach down and bite and pull
on the back of their necks and the cat would
not move, and they'd sit there and clip all their nails.
It's that instinct that you know when you grab them
by the scruff, they always it's like, you know how
they kind of just go limp. It's if their mother
is carrying them, because that's how they carry them when
they're young, and I think it's just instinct for them
to just go loop limp. And they were doing this
(25:12):
with adult cats, they clipping their nails. Yeah, and they
would they would try it with the cats without and
they were freaking out and then they bit the back
of their necks and held them that way and they
didn't move the entire time. So now I'm curious if
it works. So if you have a cat, try this.
(25:33):
Let me know. If this sends poorly and you lose
an eye. It was not my idea. I saw it
on TikTok Sue the Chinese. Not my problem, but you
should try.
Speaker 4 (25:46):
Seven know how it goes.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
Seven four DC's Classic Crocket's Big.
Speaker 5 (25:50):
One hundred WBIGFM, Washington and iHeartRadio Station Live from the
Nation's Capital. This is Big Rock Mornings with Jackson on
Big one hundred DC's Classic Rock.
Speaker 1 (26:03):
Yeah, the Nation's Capital is the only place you can
see a giant bronze Pooh, pretty sure, pretty sure? Yeah.
By the way, that's gonna be on the ball until
the thirty first I believed Yeah through Thursdays, Icky go
Adam Peter's coming up on the show here in just
a bit, and another pair of tickets to give away
for the game this weekend. It gets Bears. It's DC's
(26:24):
Classic Rock, Big one hundred, DC's Classic Rock, Hits, Big
one hundred's Ee rock and Roll It' Sun Interview Old
Interview floating around a couple of days ago, Robert Plant
Jimmy Page on some talk show god early seventies. You
know the talk show where the guy's in the suit
and smoking a cigarette. Yeah, you know on TV the seventies.
(26:49):
But is the full on, like fifties style adult you know.
And he's they're trying to explain rock and roll to him.
It's just hilarious, dude, And he's like, well, what do
you think about these lyrics? You know? Plants like kids
are changing, man, the world is changing. It was. It
was really a trip to go back and see that.
(27:10):
What was my oh my, my dad joke yesterday was
why can't you hear a pterodactyl go to the bathroom?
Why not? Because the p is silent? Thank you. I'll
be here all week. Fortunate for you. Today's Friday. I
have a new one. Did you hear about the the king?
(27:33):
It was only twelve inches tall? I didn't. It was
a terrible king, but he made a pretty good ruler.
I learned these on social media. And if that's not
reason to keep your kids off, I don't know what is.
(27:54):
And in Norway they're going to do exactly that. They've
announced a new band on young people on social media.
Supposedly it will enforce a strict minimum age limited fifteen,
because they say, quote, the tech companies are pitted against
small children's brains and they must fight the power of
the algorithm. They're not wrong, No, they're not. The Norwegian
(28:16):
Prime Minister admits this will be an uphill battle. Norway
already had a minimum age of thirteen. They're just raising it.
That aligned with the existing minimum age for many of
the social media platforms Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, but none of
it is working. Norway says despite the minimum age of thirteen,
(28:37):
more than half of nine year olds in Norway are
on social media, fifty eight percent of ten year olds
and seventy two percent of eleven year olds.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
Is that for all forms of social media?
Speaker 1 (28:49):
I would assume it means they're on one of them,
one or multiple. Right. The government says they're considering because
how do you stop it?
Speaker 2 (28:56):
All?
Speaker 1 (28:56):
Right, so you've already got seventy two percent of your
eleven year olds on social media, and you already have
a thirteen year old rule, and now you want to
raise it to fifteen. So they say they're considering several
ways and trying to figure out how to enforce it
in ways that do not intervene with human rights. They're
talking about better verification barriers. For example, you would have
(29:20):
to have a bank account, because then that would be
tied to your official age, and then that would be
how they determine if you're old enough. It'll be interesting
to see if they can pull something off, because let's
I mean, they're not wrong. Social medias are the worst
thing you can do it, and it's pretty much child abuse.
(29:41):
I was successful at keeping my kid off until he
was fourteen and a half almost fifteen. Just wouldn't let
him have it, wouldn't let him do it. I think
one time he tried to sneak a TikTok account and
I caught him, caught him. I used the out what
I did, sneak out basement windows. They're sneaking TikTok accounts.
(30:06):
All right. Adam Peters is coming up on the show
here in just a few and we have one last
pair of tickets to give away for the game this
weekend against the Bears to ground DC's Classic Rocket's Big
one hundred, DC's Class of Crocket's Big one Hundred's Bond Joey,
and you get a load of a bad name. It
is time once again at a twenty four for Florida Man.
Speaker 6 (30:26):
Florida Man.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
This is a story from a couple of years ago,
although it could have taken place today. This is back
when I guess it'd have been twenty twenty. Is when
Hurricane Sally tore through the Florida Panhandle. Okay, and old
John Robodello didn't just clean up his yard after the
(30:54):
hurricane blew everything over. Instead, he gathered up all the
hurricane forgotten treasures, spent an entire month. I mean he
was using like fences that blew down, garage doors, whatever
he could find, right, gathered all the hurricanes treasures, spent
a month turning it into a life sized pirate ship. Okay,
(31:19):
So now in his driveway there's this seventeen foot ten
foot tall pirate ship, complete with a treasure chest, two skeletons,
a skiff boat, and all of this just inside for Halloween.
Speaker 4 (31:33):
That's fantastic.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
He built a boat using mostly he says, mostly wood
fencing that had fallen down. And he said the more
weathered and beat up it was the better. And yes,
this is COVID, so he said he's hoping it would
be a boost for the entire neighborhood, prompting one neighbor
to even dress up as Captain Jack Sparrow and pose
(31:56):
for pictures with the local kids. He said the ship
started out much malleries, that something I could have fit
in the back of my car, but I just kept
building and as agree continued to work on it and
keep sitting his driveway and hopes that the kids will
enjoy it. He says everyone's had a rough year and
the kids maybe aren't as cheerful these days as they
(32:18):
should be, and they're not being interactive COVID. So he says,
I don't know if Halloween's going to be the same
this year, but I'm going to do my best to
crack some smiles and turn some attention away from all
the drama this year. That's cool, that's a feel good
story for you.
Speaker 4 (32:33):
I have a neighbor, Yeah, his name is John.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
Yeah, every year turns his house into a pirate ship.
That's cool and it's complete with like on Halloween night,
he has like this wheel that's on the side of
the balcony, which the balcony has that shape that looks
like the bow of a boat. Yeah, it will turns
and it's got like yellow shots and stuff for the adults.
Speaker 4 (32:52):
And it's a very cool place. It's a cool setup.
Speaker 1 (32:54):
It's cool. I told you I've all over my front
ear this year. I have the the skeletons like they're buried. Yeah.
So it's like hands coming up out of the dirt,
feet coming up, heads coming out of those. Love it.
And then also this year did something different. Took a
giant I'm talking like house sized spider web and you
run it from the ground out in the front yard
all the way up to the roof, so it looks
(33:16):
like the whole house is covered in a spider web.
It's pretty cool. Did you do that? Well, I mean
I bought it. I didn't do it. I done it yet?
Well no, it's up. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, it's up.
I mean I didn't I didn't create it. Well I didn't.
Speaker 4 (33:28):
I didn't think you spun it like I'm asked.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
Oh yeah, yeah yeah.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
If you've yeah, decorated your house in it.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
H Yeah, it's pretty cool, man, it's pretty cool. It
is eight twenty eight. And the thing is I live
on a street where across the street in the neighborhood,
across the Street is one of the best trick or
treating neighborhoods in the Flip and State. Right, people come
from other neighborhoods to trick or treat that neighborhood. Okay,
(33:56):
but I live right across the street from it, and no,
but he comes down on our street nobody, dude. Every year.
It's like two kids because they're like, no, we're not
crossing the street. All the good stuff's over here, are
full sized candy bars, and you know, he's got.
Speaker 4 (34:14):
This a hole with a spider web around his.
Speaker 1 (34:16):
House, giving out like six packs of beer. I'd be
over there too. It is really cool in that neighborhood
because all the the parents will set up like I mean,
they go full on. Some of them will have like
a keg set up on their porch because they know
all the parents are going to be coming through trigor treating.
So you stop at their house and you know, have
a beer, and then you go to the next house,
(34:37):
and so we's got to set something set up on
their porch. But yeah, I don't get give me try
anything on my street. So much so that I just
threw a bowl of candy up and you know, with
the sign that says, take one, and then I go
over to the other neighborhood, and then you come back
and all the candy still there. Whatever that. It's cool.
(34:58):
The house is decorated though it's eight twenty nine. Adam Peters,
General manager of your Washington Commanders, coming up next, hang out.
It is DC's classic Crack Big one hundred. Adam Peters
joints us on the show presented by fog Nigma. Command
the Cloud and dominate cybersecurity operations with fuck Enigma. I
gotta tell my brother about fog Enigma. I told you
my sister in law. She's a partner at a law firm.
(35:21):
They got hacked ransomware. They'd pay one hundred and fifty grand,
one hundred and fifty thousand dollars to get them to
unlock it. If they had FuG Nigma wouldn't have happened.
That wouldn't have happened. Adam Peters, good morning. What's up Jackson.
Speaker 6 (35:35):
I think I gotta get some fog Enigma now.
Speaker 1 (35:37):
I'm telling you, man, Command the Cloud, dominate that cybersecurity
over at Commander's camp. Hey man, congratulations on the Carolina win.
I think it was awesome. The guy stepped up, fought
through some adversity with Jayden going down. Mariota proves that
he can, you know, lead the team when necessary. That
was a great win, man. You got to be pretty
proud of the team. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (35:58):
Yeah, I'm super proud of the team, Really proud of
Marcus and his preparation and being ready to go. And
that's the life of the backup quarterback or really anybody
on our team, you know, being being ready for the moment,
and Marcus was more than ready, super prepared. He works
extra after practice. He actually did an extra two minute
(36:18):
drill on his own after Friday's practice, not knowing that
he was even going to go in, and sure enough
that paid off, doing like a ninety two yard i think,
or two minute drills. So that just tells you that
the type of guy and worker he is. And you
should have seen the team, man, they were so pumped
when he got in there and rallied around him, and
so really a great teammate, a great person, and awesome
(36:40):
to see that and just a total team win.
Speaker 1 (36:43):
Really proud of the guys. Yeah, I tell you, man,
a lot of times with backup quarterbacks, it's kind of
just like a sigh and you're like, but we are
very fortunate. Mariota as a backup quarter quarterback, a Heisman
Trophy Wantner, a guy that plays you know, has very
similar play style to to Jayden coming especially coming out
(37:03):
of college. So when he came in, I was like,
all right, we're good, We're cool. Everything's gonna be just fine. Yeah.
By the way, Monday is my birthday. Happy birthday to me,
Thank you. And all I ask for is a commander's
win on Sunday. So I was hoping if you could
just pass that on to the guys. I know, that'll
give him a little punch, little extra, a little something
to fight for.
Speaker 6 (37:24):
Oh yeah, we got a team meeting coming up here
at nine, so I'll make sure to let him know,
and that'll that'll put us over the top in terms
of motivation.
Speaker 1 (37:33):
You want it, Come on, it's gotta, it's gotta. So
let's talk about the elephant in the room. How's Jayden doing?
Speaker 6 (37:43):
Uh? Jayden, Jane, He's working hard, man, He's he's no
real update on the on the injury. I think, Uh,
you know, one thing is Jaden is tough as nails
and he'd played with one leg if he could he'd
probably be pretty good at one leg, to be honest,
but he's uh, he's working through it. He's doing everything
he can to get back. You know, ultimately though we haven't.
(38:06):
We have an awesome medical team and they're going to
give us direction and and what what to do, and
and we'll make the decision based on on that info.
So it'll be me and DQ and the medical team
will sit down and we'll figure it out. But you know,
Jaden's kicking ass in his rehab and doing everything he can,
so like we would expect.
Speaker 1 (38:26):
Yeah, and I was, I was actually thinking about that
last night. It's like, like you said, he'd play on
one leg. These players they want to go in and play,
and if you leave it up to them, they'll they'll
go in and play. So there's you guys have like
a pretty large medical team and everybody kind of gets
together and discusses all right, he's clear, he's good to go.
Is that how it works? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (38:45):
We have you know, we have trainers, we have a
head of health and performance. We have doctors you know,
like uh like medical doctors orthopedis. So we have a
lot of really really good experts that work together and
it's a really good team that that we that was
was built here and really got a chance to know
all of them throughout the last year and really like
(39:06):
impressed with how well they do. So, uh, we're in
good hands. So we'll pull all the information and come
to a great decision.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
Yeah, well, either way, it's going to be a fantastic
game with the Bears coming to town. Not only have
the Commanders been playing really well this year, but that
that Bears team is starting to play really well as well.
How do you how do you think you match up
with those guys?
Speaker 6 (39:28):
Yeah, you said it there. This is a really good team.
They have, you know, playmakers all over the field. On offense, Uh,
tight ends really good.
Speaker 1 (39:36):
They have good.
Speaker 6 (39:37):
Receivers and dynamic running back and the quarterback he's a
really talented young kid. He's only going to get better
and he's playing well so and that's and they have
a really good defense too. That's I think that gets
overlooked sometimes to their defenses playing really well. So this
is going to be a great challenge and I know
our guys are going to be up for it.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
I love it, love it, man, It's going to be
another beautiful weekend for for football. Too, so that game
this weekend Wichicago was flexed by CBS. So when it
comes to games to being flexed, do they give you
guys a heads up? I mean there does ownership do
you guys you know, have as saying that or are
they just saying this is when we're playing the game.
Speaker 6 (40:16):
We do not have a say in it. But they
do give us a heads up. It's the league office
and the networks that end up deciding that. And they
told us on this one last Tuesday. So early in
the year they give you twelve days to adjust, and
then later in the year it's only about six days,
so you had a quicker turnaround in those late games
at the end of the year.
Speaker 1 (40:36):
But they give us a heads up.
Speaker 6 (40:38):
And you know, we're honored to be flexed into this
national TV game, and I know our guys are pumped
up about it.
Speaker 1 (40:44):
Yeah. Now, outside of like the national TV thing, which
is obviously a really big deal, does it really make
a difference whether you play at one o'clock or four o'clock?
I mean for the team, does it to change in
any way, shape or form how they prepare. I mean,
it wouldn't seem like it.
Speaker 6 (40:59):
No, Well, no, I think the preparation is just the same.
You just you know, maybe you sleep in a little
longer and you leave a little later and there's a
little more traffic in the afternoon, so you've got to
prepare for that. But other than that, you know, it's
the same thing. You're having the same meetings and everything
and the same preparation and the guys have their same routines.
Speaker 1 (41:16):
So with the trade deadline coming up, you know, I'm
going to just keep asking about this. I mean, well,
first I'll say, obviously, you guys will look around the league.
I mean, that's what you do. That's your job. But
how often is it that your phone is ringing with
other people inquiring about your players? Does that happen a lot?
Speaker 6 (41:36):
Yeah, it does, And that's part of the job. You know,
you're always always calling other gms, and in our staff
is doing an awesome job of.
Speaker 1 (41:44):
Canvassing the league.
Speaker 6 (41:45):
Just we always want to know everything that's going on,
and you know, being on every trade and we can
decide whether we want to really be in it or
just know about it and pass on it. So but yeah,
our staff's talking to their tinn of parts around the league,
and I'm talking gms, you know, every week, you know,
whether it's trade deadline or not. You know, we have
a great network here, and there's a lot of really
(42:07):
cool gms that I've gotten to know over the years
that I've kind of grown up in the business with,
so that I've been fortunate with that that I have
a lot of counterparts that I'm actually really friends with too.
So we can we can either talk and shoot the
breeze or we can talk you know, business. But we're
always on the phone, just making sure we're informed of everything.
Speaker 1 (42:26):
We watch out for that Roseman cat. He'll he'll try
to swindle you. I'm telling you that was a really
good guy. Is I really know Julian? I like him
a lot. Yeah, Yeah, Well he's he's a great He's
a he's a great guy. Man. Both of you guys
are great. What's the what are the odds here of
some additions to the team before November fifth?
Speaker 6 (42:48):
Well, I'm not going to put a number on it,
no matter how Yeah, I think, yeah, he almost got
me on that one. But you know, Jack, we're always
gonna do, you know, explore everything and consider making moves
if we believe it's going to help the team. And
that's always going to be the driver of it. So
you know, if something comes along, we'll definitely explore it.
(43:10):
But you know, well it's always going to be you know,
whatever's best for the team for a short and long term.
Speaker 1 (43:15):
Yeah, And speaking of like improving the team, if we look,
you know, like halfway through the college season, now are
your college scouts like out now scouting games and players
and providing you with reports for the next draft?
Speaker 6 (43:31):
Oh yeah, this is this is prime time for those guys.
And then we're at the end of October. And when
I was a road scout, I mean, by the time
you get to the end of October, you've been on
the road since the beginning of August, and you're on
the road probably twelve out of fourteen days. You know,
go home and see your family a little bit, and
then head back out. So they are probably all dog tired.
(43:51):
But we have six area scouts, we have two national scouts,
a college director that are out there full time. And
then some of the guys in the office too, like
and Mayhew and Lands and David Blackburn. Those guys are
all hitting colleges too. So we have a team guys
looking out and finding those guys for next year, and
they do a great job. But they are working their
(44:12):
tails off scouring the whole nation to define US players
for this draft.
Speaker 1 (44:16):
Yeah, that's got to be a cool job, but I imagine
it is stressful and super busy, especially this type of year,
just being constantly, constantly on the road. So I saw
this and I'll actually be at this game because it's
kind of a side gig hobby. I like to photograph,
especially sports. You guys have the Army Navy game at
(44:37):
Northwest Stadium coming up this year, So my question on
that is, as GM, are you involved in like booking
the stadium for other events, offseason events, concerts, stuff like
the Army Navy game. Are you in on that?
Speaker 6 (44:50):
Yeah, it's really the business side that books all that,
and they they'll check in with us on the football
side to see if that makes sense.
Speaker 1 (44:59):
But you know, this is a no brainer.
Speaker 6 (45:01):
With the Army Navy game in our nation's capital, it's
one it's an honor to play in our nation's capital,
and it's an honor to host this game. This is
a game that is very very special and I watch
it every year. I've watched it every year since I
was a kid, and so it's so cool that it's here.
I'm bummed that I'm missing it. We got we got
a game of our own, but really pumped that we're
(45:21):
hosting it and proud and and you know, I think
it's going to go great.
Speaker 1 (45:24):
I'm jealous of you get to go there. Yeah, it's fun.
I saw the I think the last one I saw
I was up at the Link in Philadelphia, and you know,
you get right down on the field and you're right
behind the guys on the sideline, and it's such a
cool experience. In the year I went, it was, you know, snowing,
and you've got all the Navy guys in uniform, you
got all the Army guys in uniform. It is just
a really super cool experience to be there. Definitely highly
(45:47):
recommend going. Hey, we were talking around the station the
other day, people like hearing you on the air, by
the way, thank you for making yourself accessible. And somebody
said the other day was a dentist crash. I think
it was Who's like, you know, he's going to steal
your job. My first thought was like, well, good, all
trade salaries with him. My second thought was somebody went,
(46:11):
you guys should actually trade jobs for the DAN. I
was like, you don't want me in there? I said,
I am irresponsible with money and trades, and if you
put me in there for a day, Patrick Mahomes will
be your backup quarterback, Derek Henry will be your backup
running back, and all your cap will be gone. So
am I high? Can I start tomorrow?
Speaker 6 (46:31):
I think? Well, this website is that I'd be playing
a CDC twenty four to seven. You guys wouldn't have
any listeners, yeah except for me, But yeah no, I
think I think we'll just stick to our own jobs
and maybe come in and shot me one day without
any control of anything.
Speaker 1 (46:49):
No control at all. Come on, just a little, that'd
be awesome. Hey have you seen this is one of
my favorite You know, I've complimented you guy on your
on your social media team already, probably a couple of
times this year because I think they are fantastic and
and really make jumping on socials a lot of fun
and they get you hyped up and hype videos and
(47:10):
all the cool stuff. Have you seen the bram Cam? Oh,
the brand I have?
Speaker 6 (47:16):
You know? Actually Dennis put me onto it, so I
saw it and it's been awesome. My favorite one is
the Terry Terry one against Cincinnati, But that's been pretty
fun to watch every week and check it out. It
looks like they have a fand group nowadays back in
the in the back of the studio. I don't know
what's going on over there, but that's what happens with fame.
(47:36):
You gotta you gotta be able to handle it. Tell
those guys you got to be able to handle it.
But Bram and London and Logan, those guys are awesome, man.
And love seeing those guys around and really good partners
with us. And and yeah, it's fun to check that
out every week.
Speaker 1 (47:51):
Yeah, it's I'm worried about Bram's blood pressure. That's the
only thing I'm concerned about. Its pretty cool. I like, yeah,
he he is a fan. I mean, you know, he's
he's the best at what he does, but he is
also a huge fan and he gets so fired up.
One of my favorites was when London was out, uh,
you know, taking care of some family stuff and and
Logan was up there with him. It was just fantastic,
(48:15):
just fantastic. So hey, question for you, who does your
I was thinking about this the other day too. Who
does your like in stadium announcing like the PA gig,
the guy that announces players and calls.
Speaker 6 (48:26):
Yeah, it's a guy by the name of Mark Fratto,
and uh he does. He does a wizard too. As
a matter of fact, there's the Wizards, and you know
he's in his second season, so he's going to be
here for a while, so I don't know. He might
have to he might have to take him out if
you want that gig.
Speaker 1 (48:44):
Hey Crash right, his name though, Steeven gets men for him,
the little opposition research. Well, I'll tell you what. If
he ever retires or decides he's tired of it, you
call me. That's the best gig. That's the best gig
in the world. Adams always man, I appreciate you taking
the time. I wish you guys the best of luck
against embarrassing this week, and I know you're gonna farewell
(49:06):
and send Jaden all the positive vibes we can and
for a speedy recovery. And always a pleasure to talk
to you. Look forward to doing it again next week.
Speaker 6 (49:16):
Yeah, looking forward to it. Jackson, always fun. And then
we'll send Jade and your messages. He'll be happy to
hear that.
Speaker 1 (49:21):
Remember, tell the guys win one for me, all right, Yeah,
we'll win one for you too.
Speaker 6 (49:26):
Yeah. I got a lot of messages to pass on,
so I'm gonna write all this stuff down. But thanks
a lot, man.
Speaker 1 (49:31):
It's great you bet man, have a great dake. Good
luck this weekend. All right, thanks Adam Peters. That's a
general manager, your Washington Commanders right here on DC's Classic Crock,
Big one hundred. DC's Class Crock is Big one hundred.
I of the Tiger. There you go. That's a little
fire you up. So I for the fanners this week. Oh,
I had the tire little training montage going on in
(49:53):
the background. I like it.
Speaker 6 (49:55):
I like it.
Speaker 1 (49:55):
It is eight fifty three and it's time to give
away some tickets for the game this weekend. Last pair.
We've got a pair to give away for the Bears
game this weekend. Whether it's Mariota or whether it's Steton Daniels,
