Speaker 1 (00:01):
In its earliest days, the major function of radio was news.
Going on here, beautiful, let everybody go. Why don't you
put on a show and charge it mission?

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Okay, so I would say something, wouldn't muse it?

Speaker 1 (00:25):
And comedy. Now you're talking.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
There will be a show for everyone who loves music
and murder coming on.

Speaker 4 (00:34):
We gotta take show to dude.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Showtime. Are you ready? I'm ready to.

Speaker 5 (00:40):
Job?

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Oh wow, it's Friday. We finally made it to the
weekend is here? It's Jackson coming at to Live from
Commander's training camp this morning. It's fan day today. It's
gonna be a madhouse out here a little bit later.
I mean when you roll up at like, you know,
five something in the morning and they're already parking a
lot of attendants check and passes and stuff, you know
that it's about to get crazy out here. But would

(01:05):
be pretty cool, man. We got some great interviews lined
up throughout the day, maybe some surprise guests this morning.
Plus it is Friday, so we'll wrap up the big
word of the weekend. We have a chance for you
to win Iron Maiden tickets later this morning, and one
last pair of tickets were Rob Zombie and Alice Cooper,
and we'll give those away closer to nine o'clock this morning.
I first thing I see when I opened my laptop

(01:27):
this morning, he's I mean, this looks like it could
be out of Florida, but it was out of Indonesia.
Just the headline read that a guy in Indonesia stabbed
his friend to stabbed his friend to death. All right,
it's bad right over the classic disagreement which came first,
the chicken or the egg? That was the argument that

(01:50):
was the fight, chicken or the egg?

Speaker 4 (01:53):
How does that spiral to that point?

Speaker 1 (01:55):
How does that to a knife fight? I mean to
be kidding me. When I saw the headline, I was like, oh,
well there's Florida, Matt. No, actually that was in Indonesia.

Speaker 4 (02:05):
Indonesia.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Man, I gotta ask you this though, How hot is
it out there?

Speaker 1 (02:11):
It's that kind of drippy where you can feel the
moisture in the air. You know, it's like the air
is wet, superhumid.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
Like walking around inside a mouth.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
It's it's like a sauna. Yeah yeah, I mean, just
sitting here, it's it's not even like it's that warm yet, right,
but you're already like drenched in sweat. So it's gonna
be it's gonna be all of a practice for those
players out there. I cannot complain. I get to sit
at a microphone here and talk. They're gonna actually be
out there working their butts off for a couple hours
this morning. But it should be cool. Man. We'll we'll

(02:43):
see if we can get some some decent conversations to
play back for you next week, and then, like I said,
maybe some surprise guests iming by the table throughout the morning.
Here live from Commander's Training Camp. It is DC's classic
Crock Big One, DC's plans, Frock Gags, Big One under
there's the police Jackson. Here we are live from Commander's

(03:03):
Training campus morning. Oh look, it's getting right out. The
sun is out inside of tent and I walked in
earlier it was dark and now the sun's coming up.
We will be out here throughout the morning. We've got
a bunch of interviews scheduled. Might have some surprise guests
stop by the table, which is pretty cool. I have
been watching on YouTube on the Washington Commander's YouTube channel,
Building the Brotherhood, the Commander's log. Yeah, the latest one

(03:27):
is called Building the Brotherhood you gotta watch it. It
is a cool watch that'll get you fired up. Yeah,
that's pretty cool, just the whole you know kind of
adversity builds bonds and going through hard things together and
build you know.

Speaker 5 (03:38):
By the way, a big shout out and I think
you might stop by today. Brian Colbert Junior, who's the
host of all the YouTube stuff. Yeah, also Fred Smoots,
Santana Moss, all those guys and Logan Paulson will be
on the radio broadcast this year.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
They all do a great job with the content.

Speaker 5 (03:53):
I mean there's a lot, there's a lot to do
out here, as you know, because you do so many
interviews and stuff.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
So it is a fun watch. I love the with
Fred Smooth's this big one hundred. When he's doing like
post game, he just you know, have babble about something
big one hundred. He just kind of runs it all
together and I'm like, he's just too cool for the room. Brad.
He's got his own style. He's the man. He's a
legend around here.

Speaker 5 (04:17):
And him and Scott Jackson are back with a post
game this year, which will be out of the Craft
House and rest and so that'll be a lot of fun.
I think we also have Zach Selby stopping by to
say hi to you. Oh yeah, I let you know
what's going on.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
He's been here every day.

Speaker 5 (04:29):
He's been doing the video the content for Commanders dot
com as senior editor. So they'll give you a we
worried you actually more than a week in a training camp.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
Yeah, they're starting also, if you follow the commander's on
you know, Instagram, they're starting to throw up highlight reels
of Jaden making these just crazy paths. Yesterday you see
that the one McLaurin. Yeah, I was here for that.
By the way, it was another one that Dotson. There's
been a few and I'm like, oh god, his arm
strength and there's a ten point accuracy are so fun

(04:57):
to watch. It's gonna be a you know, it'll be
a different story when when they get out on a
field against a resisting opponent, and maybe it'll not be
a different story. Well that'll be exactly that. That's the hope, right,
that that is going to try a lot of red
zone stuff. They're gonna be working on a couple days too. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
all right, cool. Well, we will have things I know

(05:19):
coming up here in just a bit We're gonna give
away some tickets for Iron Maiden because we wrap up
the big word of the week this morning at about
seven to twenty later this morning, Robs Zombie and Alice
Cooper tickets to give away. That's our last pair for
the week. We'll throw those out right at the end
of the show with Well following Sports on tap live
from Commander's training camp. I've got that big report for you.
This is a big day for you, man, it's huge.

Speaker 5 (05:41):
Man taking care of Jackson on the road. We're gonna
put you in this whole full time job.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Please. You gotta have the right temperature of coffee. Yeah,
We've gotta have a certain kind of lighting. They tell
you how this guy left me hanging this morning. He
calls me. I'm on the road, I'm about eight minutes out,
and he goes, hey, did did you get a parking pass?
I forgot. It was fan day right, so it's you know,
they were already parking attendants out at like five in
the morning. I was like, oh, no, I didn't know
a parking pass. What I was like, Oh, it's a

(06:07):
fan dad, It's gonna be crazy. And Dennis is like, well,
I got mine I'm parked right up front. You might
have some issues, but you know, good luck like that,
and that's what I like to do, give a heads
up to everybody so there's no surprise. I was like, yo, yeah,
good luck. So I said, I said, well, look, if
I don't show up, you know where I'm at. And
he's like, oh, just talk to the guy, tell him

(06:28):
who you are. Yeah. It's like, yeah, that works, and
it did. You know who I am. Everything worked out.

Speaker 5 (06:34):
Just find your coffee was at the right temperature you
got in.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
I actually told the guy, I said, guy, guy that
came in just a bit ago there, I said, he's
got my past I that jerk. Yeah, yeah, all right.
We got to take care of some business here. But
we're back to it just a few It is DC's
classic rock Big one hundred Rocket. Still I felt I'm
looking for it's Jackson. We are live from Commander's training

(06:59):
camp this morning. Today's fan day, so it's gonna be
nuts out here. If you do plan on coming out,
he'd the old advice try to get here a little
early because traffic is probably going to be nuts. It
does look like they're pretty organized out there in the
parking area. But again, traffic Coal probably be a little crazy.
It is six point forty and tom once again for

(07:19):
things I know this is cool. Michael Phelps doesn't just
hold a ton of swimming world records. I had no idea.
He held for the longest time, held the longest televised
golf putt record, held the world record for the longest
televised golf putt. He nailed a one hundred and fifty

(07:40):
nine foot putt for eagle on live TV during a
celebrity tournament in twenty twelve. Yeah, twenty twelve. That record
stood for ten years until in twenty twenty two, Ian
Poulter edged him by nailing a one hundred and sixty
two foot putt. Meanwhile, I'm missing him a like eight
inches out. The guy who invented velcrow. You know, you

(08:04):
sit back and think about the guys invented the post, it,
the paper clip, velcrow, whatever, it is, some simple little
idea that made them billions of dollars. The guy who
invented velcrow got the idea when he was walking his
dogs in the woods and he saw how the burrs
were clinging to its fur. Yeah, that simple boxers and

(08:24):
their managers didn't originally throw a towel in the ring
to give up. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, they
threw a sponge into the ring that eventually turned into
the towel. The United States has only formally declared five wars,
the War of eighteen twelve, the Mexican American War, Spanish
American Wore, World War One, World War two, the rest

(08:45):
of the wars are all technically just military engagements. And finally,
the Chuck in Chuck Norris is not short for Charles,
short for Carlos. I would not make fun of Chuck
because you still kick your ass. I love it. I

(09:06):
still see Chuck on like TV and hear him on
the radio. Pitching is like supplements. Now, let's say I
drink this every morning. I'm still a badass. All right.
It is six forty two. We'll take care of some
business here and we're back to in just a few.
It is DC's Classic Crock, Big one hundred. DC's Classic
Crock is Big one hundred days. You see TC back

(09:27):
and back. It is seven oh three. Good morning, Jackson
here live from training camp. This morning. Commanders Training Camp
practice is going to take place about nine o'clock I
think coach Quinn's going to be in the media tent
right next to us here just before practice this morning,
and then we've got a litany of guests swinging by
the table throughout the morning. Some of those will play
back for you next week because they may happen when
I get off the air later this morning, because we've

(09:48):
got a lot of guys swinging by after practice, which
will probably wrap up. But ten thirty, yeah, ten thirty
ish this morning. So I just saw a story where
Ford is patenting a system that snitches on speeding vehicles.
I don't know about this, A little too big brother

(10:09):
for me. Ford is patenting in a system that would
They're not using it yet, right, they're just working on
getting a patent on it that would automatically report speeding
vehicles to the police, not the Ford vehicle you're driving.

Speaker 4 (10:21):
And that's what I was going to ask you, if
it's no, it's.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
Not, it's not you. It will clock other people on
the road and if they are speeding, it will snitch
on them. They're trying to patent the system they developed.
It would automatically report speeding vehicles to the police. So
what they'll do is they'll have onboard cameras and the
equipped Ford vehicle will send a report, was speed data

(10:46):
and a picture directly to law enforcement and roadside monitoring units.
The cops would also get a GPS info GPS info
to help track the offender.

Speaker 4 (10:58):
Do you have to pay extra for it?

Speaker 1 (11:00):
Oh my god? And why would you? And again, for now,
they're just trying to secure the patent. Maybe there's more
to it. Maybe they're they're you know, they've got some
grand idea and it's like, well, but we could use
that for this who knows. And they have not installed
the technology and any cars. But even if they did,
there would surely be a legal debate since an officer

(11:22):
would not be there to witness the actual violation. You've
already got, you know, stationary speed cameras, but they can
only issue tickets based on a license plate number. They
can't issue a ticket to the driver because they can't
confirm who's driving, and that varies from state to state,
right like some states, I want to say, crush. You
might know in DC, I think with the cameras, it

(11:45):
is considered a moving violation, which is kind of screwy
because in most places where they have a camera. It's
considered like the equivalent of a parking ticket because they
nobody really witnessed the crime and they can't really determine
who was driving the car.

Speaker 4 (11:59):
Right, I've never tried to fight one, so I don't know.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
Well, they make it possible, right, Well.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
There's a stop sign that's close to where I live
that's got one of those motion detectors. So if you
don't stop completely, yeah, then it will take your picture.
But the thing is you have to stop completely so
many inches before the line, like if you stop on
the line, like if you go over it, you get
the ticket. And I've gotten a couple of those, and

(12:24):
I haven't gone through the bother of fighting it, so
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
Yeah, well I think I want to say, I'll dig
into it, but I want to say I saw that
this morning, and the only reason I looked into it
was a I saw this story. And then last night
on the news I saw a story about this was
in Maryland where they had a bunch of track several
different spots in Maryland where a bunch of traffic cameras,
like the speed cameras malfunctioned because you know, they thought

(12:53):
it was they were in school zones, which obviously the
speed limit does not drop unless school is in session
it's summer, and they malfunctioned and were going on the
fact that it was a school zone and school was
in session and then wrote like hundreds, sent like hundreds
of tickets out to people. Now, to Maryland's credit, they
made a you know, an announcement I think, on their

(13:14):
socials and said they're going to refund all of those
people that paid for those tickets because it was a mistake.
But then that got me curious, like, well, how do
they can they really inform that's a thin line, like
can they really enforce those things? And the more I
dug into it tomorrow, I saw that like most places,
most states, consider it like not a moving violation but
more like a parking ticket, right, And they make it

(13:37):
so hard to fight it that you're just what are
you going to do? You just write, you know, you
just pay them their money and you go a boy,
your business.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
Remember what I paid? It was the day I went
to jury duty, Like you just can't.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
Yeah, I got one, I want to say. It was
on ninety five in Maryland and it must have been
a construction zone or something, and maybe I didn't see them.
Who knows, I'm not than one sure I was speeding,
but they sent me a ticket picture in my car.
Here's the ticket, and I was like, well, what am
I gonna do? I guess I got to pay it.
It's like forty bucks or something. All right, it is

(14:11):
seven oh seven and coming up here in just a bit,
we're gonna give you the final letter for the big
word of the week, and we're gonna give you a
chance to win Iron Maiden tickets this morning from DC's
Classic Crack. It's Big one hundred, DC's Classic Crack. It's
Big one hundred your Rhythmics, it's seven to twenty Jackson Here.
We're live from Commanders Training Camp this morning, which is
always pretty flipping awesome. The only you know, I got

(14:33):
to deal with Dennis throughout the morning on the side
of that, so I'm bad.

Speaker 4 (14:37):
Oh, he's gonna be right there next to you all morning.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
He was just taking pictures and I kept flipping him off.
So you want that on socials And I'm like, I say, man,
if you posted it's, you've posted it on me. I think, Hey,
Dennis did is he gonna stop buying? Mister Colbert yeah, okay,
fantastic huh. And Zach sel All right, so we got
Zach Heelby coming up this morning. We're gonna chat with

(15:03):
Brian Colbert who he runs all the really cool like
interviews and podcasts and all the video stuff for the Commanders.
He has done some fantastic interviews over the last year
that I've like zeroed in watched his stuff, and that's
how I decide a lot of times, like what players
that want to talk to based on how cool his
interview went with said players. So he's he's good stuff. Man.

(15:25):
We're gonna hopefully be able to chat with him in
just a bit.

Speaker 4 (15:27):
Is he gonna stop I joined the show this morning,
or are you gonna record him?

Speaker 1 (15:30):
And we will hopefully he's gonna stop by live and
hopefully Zach Helby, Zach Selby is gonna stop by live
and then some of the players of course will get
post practice, so those will be recorded and we'll play
them back for you for next weeks. TikTok is obsessed.
I saw this this morning. It's a new thing. It's
called fridge scaping. Fridge escaping it is basically decorating the

(15:54):
insider your refrigerator it's like landscaping the inside of your fridge.
And I start reading the article and then I start
scrolling through a bunch of the post on TikTok and
I see that. I mean, there's hundreds of them and
people are putting stuff like flowers, little wicker baskets, pieces
of framed art, everything inside the fridge. Now, I'm not

(16:17):
gonna lie, there was one of them. There was like,
look at my fridge scaping and you're like, wow, that's
kind of that's beautiful. That's you need to see the
fruits and vegetables and little baskets and little vases with flowers,
and it's like, that's nice. But really, this this is
what we're doing now, trying to make the inside of
our fridge look as esthetically pleasing as possible. You remember

(16:38):
a couple of weeks ago when one of the big
AI guys, I think it was the guy from AI
opened Open Ai, that came out and said the great
thing about Ai it's going to free humans up to
do so much more and enjoy so much more downtime
and free time and and hobbies. This is what this is,
what's what's happening.

Speaker 3 (16:55):
Okay, dude, I'm watching the video, it looks like a
looks like an apartment inside that refridge.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
Yes, it's insane, dude, Just jump on TikTok and and
uh and throw it in and you'll you'll see them all.
It is absolutely nuts. And I'm like, this is the
direct result of people having too much time on their hands.
This is what's gonna happen. This is not This is
not the flex you think it is.

Speaker 3 (17:16):
I don't think they think it through the What what
the the cold and the condensation is going to do
to those photographs that they're putting in.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
Yeah, I don't know. I don't know it does. But
it does look cool, right, Yeah, but it's like, come
on that we're decorating it.

Speaker 4 (17:29):
But it doesn't look functional though.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
No, No, it looks like something that would be a
picture for the cover of a magazine. Right. It makes
it makes no sense as far as this function goes.
All right, let's give you a letter for the big
Word of the week. It is the final letter, which
means we're gonna give away some Iron Maiden tickets.

Speaker 4 (17:47):
Big Word of the Week on Big one hundred.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
Today's letter is one double O three Sorry I got
cut off, one four nine three one, double oh three.
Today's letter is S. That is the final letter that
spells a word. If you know the word, give a ring.
We'll say, call her number five, So we let some
of those streamers through that have that delay. Call her
number five. One four nine three one double three, and

(18:12):
we'll set trouble. Darron Maiden tickets. Good luck from DC's
Classic Crack. It's Big one hundred. DC's classic crack is
this big one hundred Dennis. If you want to talk,
you have to grab a microphone. That's how it works.
He's chewing my ear off over here, hey, telling me
all the things we gotta do. Zack Selby's gonna stop

(18:32):
by here in a bit. We're else gonna have Brian Uh. Colbert,
Colbert Jr. Colbert Junior. I still say Colbert because I'm
used to Stephen Colbert.

Speaker 5 (18:41):
Well, don't say that when he's on. But he's the
host of Command Center podcast. He does all the YouTube stuff.
He does our Commanders daily updates too, on all our stations.
So he's great and he's got a good insight on camp.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
He's a he's a fantastic interviewer. Es. I love his
I love his interviews yeah, so hopefully, well we'll chat
with him, he'll stop by here, uh in just a bit.
It is. We got a winner on Big Word of
the Week, so we gave Ways of Iron Maiden tickets.
Big congrats going out to Jim and Clinton. And next
week I think I have Pearl Jam tickets we do.

(19:12):
That is gonna be nice. We're gonna give away pearl Jam.
Have you ever interviewed Eddie No, No, he's very one
of my lit He's very tough to get interviews with.
But one of my good friends did interview him and
it was fantastic. I bet it was because he's a
very thoughtful guy. Yeah, it's very great. Yea. I did
get the opportunity to interview Chris Cornell like three or

(19:34):
four times. No, that's cool that I bet that was great.
It was. It was fantastic. No, I've never never, I
have never had a chance to chat with.

Speaker 5 (19:43):
Is there somebody on your wish list that you didn't
that you wish you would have in all the years.

Speaker 1 (19:47):
That you've been one of them?

Speaker 5 (19:49):
Yeah, anybody else out like maybe like a beadle or
maybe something from the role.

Speaker 1 (19:55):
Here's the thing. It kind of circles back to that
you don't want to meet your heroes, then I'm with
you on them and I did that with Jackson.

Speaker 5 (20:02):
Then it was it was a disappointment, folks, Just don't
get me started.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
The fact that I was you're here to begin with.
It says a lot about you, Dennis.

Speaker 5 (20:10):
A lot of a lot of bally who I'm coming
in and coming into d C. And I was disappointed
to run off the bat. But what are you gonna do?

Speaker 1 (20:18):
I hear you? So, yeah, there's I would say that
there's probably some people out there where I go only
because I'm a huge fan that I would want to
interview them. But a lot of times, man, and I
think we've all been through that where you really really
admire some when you meet him, and if by chance
they're having a bad day or they're just a jerk
in general, it ruins everything you told me about that.

(20:39):
But is there do you have? Like a top three list?

Speaker 5 (20:41):
Was not only your fan boy do on but it
was just a great interview and said that's why I
get up every day.

Speaker 1 (20:46):
That was the best interview in my entire career. And
I'm not saying because it was a good interview, I'm
saying because it was the most fascinating, interesting, crazy conversation
I've ever had. Was Marylyn Manson, Is that right? And
he came into my studio for about an hour, And
the guy Maryland is something else. He has got some

(21:08):
crazy adhd. First off, he can't hold a thought for
more than like thirty seconds. We'll be talking about one
thing and then he'll, you know, it'll be like, do
I ever tell you about the time I tried to
sneak a snake through security at the airport? And I'm
like what? And then and then you know, he'll be
talking about that, and he'll go, if I ever showed
you my playlist? And he'll pull up his like playlist

(21:28):
on his phone. And that was interesting too. He listens
to like Backstreet Boys, Yeah, justin Timberlake's He's an odd
and really interesting dude. And I think I still have
it recorded somewhere When I go back and listen to it.
There are a few times in the interview I just
say to him, I go, you're freaking fascinating dude.

Speaker 5 (21:47):
You are, like, I don't want you to get into it.
But he's obviously problematic now about oh yeah, yes, did
you know then when this was pre all that stuff,
so you had no inkling that.

Speaker 1 (21:57):
No, this was before any of that stuff went down, right, Yeah,
he was Uh, he was fantastic. He's he's absolutely one
of my all time favorites. And then also, uh, James
Hetfield from Metallica is a great interview. He seemed like
a very thoughtful guy to really personable dude and doesn't
do a lot of interviews. So it was a nice,

(22:19):
nice score.

Speaker 5 (22:19):
You you told me some mindy you don't have time
to do that, but you told me some great D
Snyder stories. Oh, I used to work with I used
to work radio. It's just fantastic. He's a different cat.

Speaker 1 (22:29):
I worked afternoons and he came on right after me.
D was uh. He he's a great guy, has amazing
stories as you might imagine it, right, I mean he
was in a huge rock band and has traveled the
world and has also stood up to the government too. Yes,
but d D likes himself a lot and he'll let

(22:56):
you know that he's D is very pro d. He
did like a nighttime show for he did Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
he's great though. He's a good guy out of Philadelphia,
New York. He did it out of Philly for a
little bit, and then he started doing it that out
of his home studio in Long Island.

Speaker 5 (23:10):
Yeah okay, yeah, well he's seen and done it all though.
Yeah something else.

Speaker 1 (23:15):
You know, he's just one of those guys that's got
you know, he's been around the block. So he's got
great stories, Like he can tell you a story about
anybody and everybody in rock and roll.

Speaker 5 (23:24):
And I imagine that the world he's still from the
one song are tremendous, Oh.

Speaker 1 (23:29):
Absolutely, and looking everywhere for don't even think for a
second he doesn't still have a huge fan base because
for example, we did an appearance together one time. It
was of all places, like a classic car show, right
and uh, you know, I pull up park, walk over
to the d of course, had his limo pull him up,
because of course he's got to have a driver to

(23:51):
go to a van jack, but he had. Dude, he
had like a thousand people in line just waiting to
come up and get a picture. Get it, all these
years later, I get it, waiting to just come up
and get a d. Snyder autograph.

Speaker 5 (24:04):
I know. You know this not only was We're not
gonna take it a great rock song and an anthem,
but the music video took it to a fantastic like
zz Top, you know, because that was great music, but
the videos took them to another level.

Speaker 1 (24:18):
In those early eighties, the age of MTV man, it
was fantastic. Yeah, all right, it is seven forty three.
We'll take care of some business here. Coming up in
the eight o'clock hour Sports on Tap with Dennis, we'll
get an update of all things Olympics and Commanders training
camp and Florida Man is just around the corner, And
just before nine o'clock, a chance to win tickets for
Rob Zomby and Alice Cooper. It is Big one hundred
DC's Classic Crock. It is Big one hundred. See, I

(24:41):
had to kill the I had to kill the ac
sounds like you're gonna win Tunnel Brian Colbert Junior joins
us at and it's Colbert not Colbert, Yes, sir, yes, sir,
you got it right. We blamed Stephen Colbert for ruining
that name for everybody, right.

Speaker 6 (24:53):
He did, man, he rooted it for everybody. He goes
by Colbert too, but he changed it for TV. So
now I got to deal with it for rest of
my life.

Speaker 1 (24:59):
Remember the broadcas team here at till the Washington Commanders.
You do the command centater, you do the next man up, sir.
Just saying I'm a big fan because I uh, I
actually cheat a little bit. I love your interviews, so
I watched them to decide who I want to talk
to because I see who you have great conversations with it, sir,
And then I go, all right, yeah, that's cool. But
you have a gift, dude, because you are able to

(25:20):
get the guys that don't really want to talk. Yeah,
to talk, sir.

Speaker 6 (25:25):
That is that is something else, like you have a
secret what you Honestly, man, I give all testament to God.

Speaker 1 (25:31):
Man.

Speaker 6 (25:31):
You know, I've always wanted to do this since I
was like two or three years old. I've always said
this is what I wanted to do. And I've always
been a talker. Yeah, so I don't know what it is, man,
It's just it's just something.

Speaker 1 (25:40):
I just I just love talking to people. Man.

Speaker 6 (25:41):
I've I've lived all around the world growing up military,
so I think that kind of helps. And yeah, I
just I just love storytelling and doing right by the
players as well. They have a story to tell and
there's a lot of people out there that want to
do that gotcha journalism.

Speaker 1 (25:53):
I'm not here to do that, you know.

Speaker 6 (25:54):
I'm here to tell stories and make these guys let
us know who these guys really are, not just as
the athlete, but as a human being as well.

Speaker 1 (25:59):
And I tell you what I take test. The advantage,
like somebody like you and myself have is we're an
ally and once they realize it's like, we're not here
to rip you apart. We're here to be We're here
to support you, right, And once they realize you're on
their team, and then if you just make them feel comfortable,
you know, it opens up a whole new world, right,
because I think you're right. I think they're so used
to the gotcha stuff that they're just on their toes.

Speaker 3 (26:18):
Man.

Speaker 6 (26:18):
Yeah, especially out here, like you know, you get a
lot of that, and there's been you know, a lot
of negativity around it.

Speaker 1 (26:23):
And just now it's a different time. There's more positivity.
So it's not just me. The guys are feeling better too. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (26:27):
I feel like Dan quinnin Man and Peters have come
in here and really just changed the culture of what
it is. So guys like talk to Jonathan Allen that
interview actually drops today on the Tanner's YouTube page, and man,
just the way he was smiling the first thing he
said when he got on, I'm energized.

Speaker 1 (26:39):
Yeah, I feel better than I've ever felt. It's going
to a year eight.

Speaker 6 (26:42):
And he's saying that, you know, and I believe them
because you look at him, you look at Doron Payin,
you look at the way they're built.

Speaker 1 (26:47):
Sure, you're like, oh man, these guys are locked in.
So man, it's an exciting time to be funny. I
got to talk with Alan about a week ago too,
and same thing. I had the same same impression. It's
like he's because I said, I was like, look, man,
I saw some of your interviews at the end of
the Roe season last year and you were not holding back.
If he wasn't too happy, you were not a happy man.
I said, So this everything seems a little bit different.
He's like, oh yeah, And that's huge for your locker room.

Speaker 6 (27:08):
It's huge for your leaders, right, And like dan Quinn
has talked about it too, like ja especially one of
those guys he loves, like everything loves about football is
what Jaa is. And so it's so great to see
those two connect and be able to keep this thing
going right because we didn't know what was going to happen.
But it's been great to see how this team is
coming together.

Speaker 1 (27:24):
You said you grew up in a military family. Yes, sir,
I mean too. Was your danny, Oh, my my dad
and my mother in the Air Force? Yes, Air Force.
So I moved around my entire life. So I went
to my dad was in for twenty eight years air Force. Wow.
And I went to thirteen schools in twelve years. Okay, Oh,
so you get it. Yeah, so you understand what it's
like to be that. Maybe that's why we're good at this, right.

(27:45):
You know what we're able to do this is we
get into this, which usually requires a lot of moving around,
and we're like, that's nothing, there's nothing. We're used to it.
You're not telling me to go out the country. Yeah,
right now, I can pick up I can move tomorrow, dude,
I can pack a you houl like twenty four minutes exactly.

Speaker 6 (27:59):
So we're built for this. And shout out to you
your father, man, thank you for his service. U ten
is awesome man, No, I mean it's it's it's a
blessing to have family like that and I truly don't
think I get here if it's not for the life
that I had and moving everywhere and meeting all these
different people and experiencing these different cultures.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
So I'm really lucky to have it. I'll tell you what,
because I think I'm pretty sure you went to university
in Nebraska, sir. Yes, so I spent most of my
youth off of Air Force base in Nebraska. So wow,
as you know, in Nebraska, there is uh, there is well,
Nebraska football is life. It is life, sir. I grew
up with Nebraska football. Now, thankfully, I grew up during

(28:36):
the good years, Tom Oligybourne. I grew up with the
back to back national champions what they call the good
old days. Yeah, I grew up, you know, with the
option and Turner Gill and Mike Crozier and you know,
the good years. Yes, before before recruiting went downhill. But yeah,
which you think of Nebraska, man, what you're what do
you You're to graduate? So I graduated.

Speaker 6 (28:55):
I've got there twenty ten to twenty fourteen. So I
got there right at the end of our big twelve run.
So my you know, our last good years was that
year when we.

Speaker 1 (29:02):
Lost the Texas in the Big Twelve Championship off of
a drop pass, which is just heartbreaking. You know, we
had nom Can sue Taylor Martinez.

Speaker 6 (29:10):
So but then it kind of, you know, we fired
bow Polini and things kind of just haven't been the
same since.

Speaker 1 (29:15):
I don't think they ever should have got rid of
solog to be honest, that a lot of people feel
that way. You know, it's like, but back then, it
was like during the Osbourne years, like losing a game
was terrible. It was the end of the world, end
of the world if you lost one game. Solig came
in and in everyone else's book had winning seasons. But
you're losing too many games. Man, You're losing like three
games a year. You can't. We can't have that.

Speaker 6 (29:36):
And that's where it went out, and that is how
Nebraska fans are. So give you a little background on me,
and we talked about this a little off air. So
I started in radio. I worked for the ESPN affiliate
in Lincoln, Nebraska. Wow, all Huskers. It's national shirts as well,
but it's.

Speaker 1 (29:48):
All Huskers football.

Speaker 6 (29:49):
So we I would board produce and also co hosts
at the same time.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
So I would take in a lot of calls.

Speaker 6 (29:54):
So the calls we would get from Husker fans talking
about that era and that it was insane, and that's
kind of what happened to bow Polini, Right, he would
get nine wins but couldn't really go.

Speaker 1 (30:01):
Over that hall. Right, But it's like, oh, nine enough.
I haven't seen it since. So it's crazy, man, when
you get those like well, then it killed recruiting too.
Nebraska used to be a cruit recruiting power. You know,
everybody wanted to play Nebraska. Now everybody's going to Florida.
Let's you gotta understand it too, you know, I get it.
But yeah, that was fantastic. When I was a kid, man,

(30:22):
I had a big red end on my bedroom wall
and I used to get the Oma Hospital World Herod
Sports section every every weekend. I'd cut out all the
pictures of like Rogier and I'd put you know, Turner
Gill and that's awesome. Yeah, it was fantastic. Wow, that
is so crazy, man. So are you still a Husker fan? Yeah?
The thing is is like I lost a lot of faith,
and me too. I think this year I'm trying to

(30:43):
come back. I keep saying that, I keep saying that
I'm like, I'm gonna come back. I'm gonna come back around.
That's very cool man, very cool, really cool man. And
you'll meet me people from like that have been to
offer or even know what off it is, right, So
that's really awesome. Yeah. Yeah, so uh tell me about
you got to command Center that sir, next man up
and what did you do any other Those are the

(31:04):
two ones. Those are the two icl those.

Speaker 6 (31:06):
Are the two main ones. So I'll be also taking
over hosting Coaches Show as well. So we're actually doing
Coaches Show with Dan Quinn and Hold and Paulson, so
we'll be having that. We do the game day show,
so we do the pregame and post game show, so
we'll be on the road. Me, Santana Moss and Brian
Mitchell will be on the road doing different hits and
things like that. And yeah, do some different digital things.
But there's a lot of things going on. We got
some new things are working for you with a car show,

(31:28):
different things like that. So we're trying to do different
things and just like take advantage of the energy that
is this new regime.

Speaker 1 (31:34):
You know what if props to the Commanders because the
YouTube channel, the socials. Everything you guys are killing. Its
super entertaining, super fun to watch, and you know a
lot of stuff will make you just want to run
through a brick wall, which is what you want, and
that's the goal, right, It's it's really good stuff, man.
We thoroughly enjoy it.

Speaker 6 (31:54):
No, I really appreciate that compliment and thank you so much.
And if you if you haven't checked us out, check
us out on the Commander's YouTube page. This podcast, there's
the Get Loud podcast with Jameson's Smooth. There's a Commander
podcast with Logan, paulse and Santana mass Fritz. I mean,
there's so many different things that we have for you guys,
and we have a lot more coming. So we cannot
put out content like this if it isn't for people watching,

(32:14):
listening and supporting.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
So we appreciate it so much of me in the world too.
Final question for you, who's your favorite player to interview
on this team? Yeah? Oh man, that's a tough one.

Speaker 6 (32:25):
This year or so, this season, I've only got to
do outside of the rookies. In the free agency, I've
only got to do two. But I really enjoyed talking
to Brandon Coleman. I really talked to you enjoy talking
to Brandon Coleman. I really enjoyed talking to Luke Luke McCaffrey.
I wasn't sure, like you know, when you come with
that name, right, you're not sure how the guy's gonna
be humble as that seems so grounded and just so
eager to work. You know, there's no entitlement there, Like

(32:48):
I said, I do. I do really like Brandon Coleman.
He also moved around a lot, lived in Germany. I
lived in England, so we had that. And I mean,
all the guys are great. There hasn't been a guy
I've talked to that's like standoffish or you know, like
last season you had a little bit of this season,
it's like these guys are ready to be in here, man.
So it's like it's hard to pick just one because
like I have favorite memories with a lot of guys
at favorite moments, man, Like kJ Henry is hilarious, Bobby

(33:10):
Wagner's adult Austin Eckler is made for television, right, So
like we have a lot of great personalities here, man,
and I'm excited to work with everybody.

Speaker 1 (33:18):
Yes, very cool. Well, thank you so much for stiming.
Appreciate you. I really appreciate It's a pleasure. And I'll
keep watching man, because you guys keep doing good stuff.
I appreciate you watching it. I appreciate you. We'll be
here as much as you need. It's fran Colbert Junior
from the Washington Commanders. It is eight eleven on DC's
Classic Crock, Big one hundred, DC's Classic Crock. It is
Big one. There's Queen zach Selby joins me. We're out

(33:39):
here at to Commander's training camp. Saxelby from Commanders dot
Com at the broadcast table. Welcome, buddy.

Speaker 7 (33:44):
You know I'm gonna be honest. This is the way
to do training camp right here. You're in this ten
year away from the elements. You got this fan going
right here. Like you go outside and you're you're sweating immediately.
So man, we just need to have a giant tent
over and over the field all this experience.

Speaker 2 (34:00):
Little get out of the sun.

Speaker 1 (34:01):
My good.

Speaker 2 (34:01):
It's not a closett guy either.

Speaker 1 (34:03):
It's like a sauna. I think understatement, these guys are
good to practice in this like old boy, oh boy.
So uh we were just talking off here about how
different things feel compared to last year. The buzz in
the air this year, uh, compared to how bad it was,
especially towards the end of the season last year. It's

(34:25):
just a completely different animal this year, right.

Speaker 2 (34:28):
No, it definitely is.

Speaker 7 (34:29):
And you can feel a lot of the energy that
Dan Quinn and Adam.

Speaker 2 (34:33):
Peters have brought over.

Speaker 7 (34:34):
Like from the moment that d Hughes Presser started, you
felt like this guy is different because and a lot
of people said, you know, he's Ron a very two
point zero. And that's not the disparage Ron or anything.
He's just a very different guy. He brings a lot
of different energy. He cusses a little bit, Yeah, he's
I think he's in his pitches, but he doesn't really
act like it. Like he brings out a lot of
other good things in these players too. I think he

(34:56):
gets the players in a way that I don't think
a lot of coaches really do. Think he's got this
whole staff is really taking care of these players in
such smart ways. I think that's probably the biggest thing
of a practice. How smart all the practices are. Like,
they're not very long, They're about an hour and a
half at the most at times, but they're getting so
much work out of these guys. And the fans, I

(35:18):
mean you can tell they love it, like they're they're
excited to see this thing turn around.

Speaker 1 (35:22):
Yeah. I recently watched one of the commander's log things,
which was really cool, just and it was kind of
centered around just the atmosphere and and all they're trying
to do for the players. Now that Josh is, you know,
taking he's got this idea and it's like, look, we
wanted players to be happy, we want them to want
to come to work. And then just my experience talking

(35:44):
to players over the last couple of weeks is they're
all just like, man, you should just you should just
hear how Dan fires us up, Like the way he
speaks to us. It's like it's just different, right, And
I think there's they're out there working hard, and you
know there's that kind of brotherhood that that forms through diversity,
right when you do hard things together, Ye, you know,
that builds a team. And I feel like we're starting

(36:06):
to see that, like they're coming together, you know what
I mean.

Speaker 2 (36:09):
Yeah, it's it's there.

Speaker 7 (36:10):
You know, if you look at all the coaches, some
of them wearing the shirts that I won't say for Ancy,
the hard stuff with good people, and I think that
is that was something from d Hugh's opening presser, and
that's just been the theme from this entire but it's
been bought in by all the players, Like you can
very much tell they are into the message that DQ
and this staff.

Speaker 2 (36:30):
Is trying to sell.

Speaker 3 (36:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (36:31):
Yeah, so let me ask you about I would say
where I see it the wide receivers and defensive backs.
I feel like maybe last year, just outside looking in,
there were a lot of really really talented guys and
the scheme just wasn't working for him. It was not
I look at guys like Dotson, who I thought, you know,

(36:52):
is capable of having an insanely good year. I look
at a guy like Emmanuel Forbes, so I was like, man,
I watched this kid play in college. He is good, right,
it's not clicking right now. Do you think with like
a new coaching staff, new defense, new offense, all the
changes that are being made, that we may see some
players start to shine that we're just kind of waiting
to shine.

Speaker 7 (37:10):
I think that's what you're hoping for because and you
cannot underestimate the amount of benefit that can come from
just being in a new system and getting in something
that highlights the player's skill sets. And Dawson was talking
about this the other day about how the Cliff Kingsbury
is using them in the players in different ways where

(37:31):
they're they're moving around a lot and doing what they
do best. So for Dawson, for example, he likes he
gets open in the space. He knows how to make
catch his entight windows, so why not put him in
situations where you can get the most out of those
skill sets from Dowson. The same thing with Forbes, like
you know, on the other side of the ball, Like
you know, we saw that Forbes had a little bit
of an up and down years. It seems like for

(37:51):
the last few days or so, he's really improved and
you're seeing a lot of the things, you know, the
go after the ball skills, the the press, all that
other stuff, Like you're seeing that in different ways.

Speaker 2 (38:02):
Now that's really.

Speaker 7 (38:03):
Saying, Okay, that's that was the first round pick that
we saw at in Mississippi State last year. So yeah,
I think and I think this one reason why the
players have bought into the system so much is that
they really do see that they're being used in ways
that highlights what they're really good at, and not trying
to fit them into a certain hole or a certain
skill where they have to just adjust to what whatever

(38:25):
that system is.

Speaker 1 (38:26):
Right. So I'm saying a lot of highlights stuff, and
I've watched a little bit of practice. What do you
what are you seeing from Jaden Daniels. He looks pretty good.
Oh my gosh. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (38:34):
And you know, it's as I have to put in
the customary decembers, like it's still early. You have to
you know, keep our powder dry and all that other stuff.
But at the same time, there's a lot of stuff
that you can really really like about this dude. The
way he just throws the ball. It looks different, and
that's not nothing against Mariota or.

Speaker 1 (38:55):
Makes it look really easy.

Speaker 2 (38:57):
It looks like he's never bothered.

Speaker 7 (38:59):
He's un appable, and you know, you see the pocket
crashing around him and he's just okay, I'll back here.

Speaker 2 (39:06):
I would be cool. I'm just gonna get the ball quickly.

Speaker 7 (39:08):
The some thing I do like about him a lot
is that you know, obviously there's simulated rushes, right and
you and sometimes quarterbacks will try to escape that and everything,
But he doesn't really do that that off you, but
we know that's a skill set that he has. He's
very much trying to, you know, do just to be
a passer and that's what the that's how you get
the most out of the drills. And every once in

(39:29):
a while you'll see him unleash and just launch these
bombs downfall. He's had a couple of Terry, he's had
one or two to Dawson too as a key iss
who's been pretty impressive so far. Yeah, like you, you
don't see too much but yet, but you see more
of it as the days go on and.

Speaker 2 (39:47):
You're like, wow, this is a special dude.

Speaker 1 (39:49):
Yeah, well that's very exciting man, very exciting. We're looking
forward to it. Uh as always that I appreciate you
stopping by. I enjoy everything. You're right, and uh, I
know it's your busy time of year, so.

Speaker 2 (40:00):
Yes it is.

Speaker 1 (40:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (40:00):
I think DQ is about to talk to this right now,
so I gotta get back to her.

Speaker 1 (40:03):
All right, Hey, thanks for stopping buying. We'll chat again sooner, right,
Zach Selby from commanders dot Com. You can check out
all his stuff on the Commander's website. Eight twenty nine.
It's DC's classic crack, Big one hundred. DC's classic crack
is Big one hundred. Live it to Commander's training camp.
It's swampy, it is, it is, it is. It's steapy.

Speaker 5 (40:22):
It is swampy out of here, and you you've got
so much more.

Speaker 1 (40:26):
To do to look. Hey, I can't complain, man, I'll
I keep thinking about it is the players that are
going to go out in about fifteen minutes here and
practice in the impath I pad.

Speaker 5 (40:34):
But it's funny because we're watching people walking in and
they're already sweating.

Speaker 1 (40:38):
Oh yes, well it's that nasty humidity. Yeah, it's really
high today. But other than that, it's a lot of
fun to be out here, of course it is. And
there's a crazy crowd out here. Man, there's tons of
fans rolling. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (40:50):
So we got your meeting clients later on today and
then you're going to do some practice and then you've
got a plethora of interviews today too.

Speaker 1 (40:56):
Hey, you don't want to introduce me to clients. That's
not Oh I do, And I'm going to get the
camera roll on like you guys do. Viral TikTok about
to happen there you guys do like that money coming in? Right?
You want to keep that money coming right, You'll be
you should just keep me clear, you'll be clients.

Speaker 5 (41:12):
You want to tell your little sports Yeah side gap
today by the way, first Commander's game less than a
week away. Yeah, Saturday, August tenth, kick off at twelve
o'clock right here in Big one hund and your iHeart
app pregame at ten am with Michael Jenkins and crew,
and the postgames show Life from the Craft House with
Scott Jackson and sat Fred Smooth in resting.

Speaker 1 (41:34):
So we got that going on.

Speaker 5 (41:36):
And that's baseball if you somehow want to go out
in this weather and watch baseball this weekend. The Brewers
in town and that's park and then just a ton
of Olympics going on. We're getting to the point just
about where track and field's about to start. Yeah, they
did the walk yesterday. I like watching that walk, the
fast walking, and they did the trathlon yesterday. Those poor
people that had to swim in that river.

Speaker 1 (41:56):
Did you see what happened a couple times? Cause Ekla, right, I.

Speaker 5 (42:00):
Don't know how you can say one day don't swim
in this and the next day it's fine. People were
vomiting as they were coming out of it.

Speaker 1 (42:07):
Okay, that's bad. Yeah were they really? Yeah, I didn't
see that. Yeah, I'll send you one oo. Yeah, no,
that's right.

Speaker 5 (42:12):
Play track and field starting and Katie Ledecki. The US
swimmers are having a great time in the pool.

Speaker 1 (42:17):
They're doing well, and Simone Biles won the all around all.

Speaker 5 (42:21):
Around and one of the other girls on the team
finishing third for the bronze. Yep, suni yep. And I
just I'm digging all these sports man. There's great stories
out there that you and I have talked about. It's
been a lot of fun. We always talk about the
great stories that develop. Have you seen the guy that
won the air pistol competition Hungarian Turkey, Turkey?

Speaker 1 (42:41):
This dude explain that story. This dude, he's just like
a mechanic, Yes, in Turkey. Well, he just took up
shooting a couple of years ago. Because and it's weird
because the article says after an argument with his wife
who is now his ex wife, and it was a
little weird of the contact. Yeah, and I think a

(43:01):
lot of it's lost in translation. But he you know
from the interview, but he's saying, I just want to
prove her wrong. I'm just trying to see my kids.
So we're like, okay, so that's why you're going to
the Olympics. Anyway, everybody dresses up and has all this
fancy gear and you know, goes out there and goes
through all the He walks out there and like jeans
and a T shirt, just fantastic, and they like, you

(43:22):
know what he is, He's our Eddie the Eagle this year.
Oh my god. So he just walks out there, he's
like fifty two years old, walks out there, calm is
f and just shoots like a perfect score, walks away,
and then they say, the first thing you ask is like,
where's the smoking area?

Speaker 6 (43:36):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (43:36):
Yeah, it's amazing. He didn't have a heat or while
he was shooting. That would have been beautiful. So they
asked him afterwards and he's just nonchalot because he won
like silver, I think, right, yeah, yeah, they asked him afterwards,
and he's like, yeah, I hope my ex wife sees this.
I want the dog back. I'm like, don't we get
any more real to that man on this guy's story,
But he is fantastic man. Fantastic start of the making

(43:58):
off the streets. Right.

Speaker 5 (44:00):
Hey, I know it was bedtime last night and we
talked a little bit about football. The Hall of Fame
game was last night. The Bears beat the Texans twenty
one seventeen. None of the starters played and the game
was shortened by by weather.

Speaker 1 (44:11):
But did you see the new premium kickoff? Yeah? Yeah,
which do you think that's gonna be interesting? I think
they like I think a few games in they're going
to some teams are going to figure it out. Yeah,
and there's going to be some big returns. Well that's
what we want.

Speaker 5 (44:24):
Yeah, that's what the NFL wants instead of the kickoff
through the end zone, the time back and then when.

Speaker 1 (44:28):
People get good yeah, at that return, they're going to
just start taking the bad field position just kicking it
into the end zone.

Speaker 5 (44:35):
I think you're right about that if you have what
you think is a good defense, because the ball comes
to the thirty. Yep, if it's kicked in the end
zone and not in that twenty yard box to the
thirty and people say, okay, I can deal with that.

Speaker 1 (44:45):
If you kick it out of bounds though it goes
to the forty. Yeah, but I liked it. I thought
I thought it worked. I'll have to watch a few
games to see.

Speaker 5 (44:52):
I tell you what, there's a lot of pressure on
the kicker, but these guys are only five ten yards
apart from each other, but there's not the massive collisions
sure that they're trying to get away from.

Speaker 1 (45:00):
I think that a few games in you're gonna see
some teams figure it out, and then it's then we're
really gonna know. I agree.

Speaker 5 (45:05):
Still, well, listen, good for the NFL. Who wasn't gonna evolve?
Make something exciting that wasn't exciting?

Speaker 1 (45:10):
Yeah, agreed, Yeah, all right, Dennis, thank you, sir, buddy boy,
I appreciate it. Man. I'm gonna give away some tickets
for Rob Zombie and Alice Cooper with what have we
