Welcome to Blessings in Christ. I'mScott Roberts. Blessings in Christ is also
the Church of Christ preaching the gospelof our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Of he that believeth and is baptizedshall be saved. The Church of
Christ is scriptural a name Roman sixteensixteen, scriptural and origin Colossians one eighteen,

(00:20):
scriptural and doctrine, First Timothy foursixteen and scriptural in practice James one
and twenty two. Our lesson todayis by James Mills from the Baltimore,
Ohio Church of Christ. His lessonis to whom shall we go? And
of course this was the response ofPeter telling Jesus that he would never leave

(00:42):
him because Jesus has the words ofeternal life, and all of us need
to ask ourselves this question. Arewe going to be a follower of Jesus
and be faithful unto death or arewe going to fall back into the world
and follow the things of the worldonce again? Our lesson is to whom
shall we go? By James Mills. We hope that you enjoy the lesson

(01:06):
and please like us on Facebook.Thank you if you want to get your
Bibles, you can turn over toJohn chapter six. And if you remember
in John chapter six, at thebeginning of the chapter, Jesus had just
fed five thousand with what five lowsand two fishes, as we want to

(01:29):
call it. But he had fedthis great multitude with only those five lows
and two fish. Right well, the following day. The following day the
multitude that came back, and theywere looking for Jesus. And when they
had found him, you know thenverse twenty five, when they found him
on the other side of the sea, they said it to him, Rabbi,

(01:52):
when camest thou either. Jesus answeredhim and said, verily, verily,
I said to you, ye seekme, not because ye saw the
miracles, but what because ye dideat of the loaves, and ye were
filled labor. Not for the meatwhich perishes, but for that meat which
endureth unto ever lasting life, whichthe Son of Man shall give it to

(02:16):
you for him hath God the Fathersealed. And verse twenty eight, they
said it to him, what shallwe do? What shall we do that
we might work the works of God? What shall we do? They ask
him? Well, Jesus answered versetwenty nine, and he said to them,

(02:37):
this is the work of God,that ye won't be leave on him
whom he hath sent. They said, therefore unto him Verse thirty what side
ShoWest thou the end that we maysee and believe thee What dost thou work?
How can we know? What sidecan you show us to let us

(03:00):
know you're the one that we needto believe one Verse thirty one, our
fathers did eat manna in the desert. As it is written, he gave
them bread from heaven to eat.Jesus said it to them verse thirty two.
Verily, merely, I said toyou, Moses gave you not that

(03:22):
bread from heaven, But who myfather giveth you the true bread from heaven.
For the bread of God is hewhich cometh down from heaven, and
what and giveth life unto the world. So they said, show us what

(03:42):
sign can you show us to letus know that you are the one that
we are to believe him? Andhe said, well, well, God,
our fathers, he gave him manner. He gave him that bread that
they could eat of. That wasa sign. Show us a sign.
And he said, Joses didn't giveyou that bread, But what my father
gave you that bread. Now,he said, my father is going to

(04:08):
give you what the bread of life, the bread of life. So you
can imagine what these people are tryingto comprehend what they were taking. What
is this? Stop talking about? You know, the bread of life.
And Jesus said, in verse thirtyfive, I am the bread of life.

(04:28):
I am the bread of life.He that cometh to me shall never
hunger, and he that believeth onme shall never thirst. So Jesus said,
I am that bread. I amthat bread of life. I am
that bread that the Father has saidto you. So now these people they

(04:50):
begin to murmur as we go downinto the chapter, they begin to murmur
among themselves. They're like, whatisn't this that same kid that was born
of Joseph and Mary, and nowhe's trying to tell us that he's the
bread of life? Is it thisthat common man, that son that was

(05:12):
born to marry? And now hesays, I am the bread of life
Verse forty one. That used themmurmured at him because he said, I
am the bread which came down fromheaven. And they said, is not
this Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know how is
it then that he says, Icame down from heaven Verse forty eight.

(05:39):
Jesus says, I am that breadof life. Your fathers did eat manny
and the wilderness, and what aredead. This is the bread which cometh
down from heaven, that a manmay eat thereof and not die. I
am the living bread which came downfrom heaven. If any man eat of

(06:00):
this bread, he shall live forever. And the bread that I will give
is my flesh, which I willgive for the life of the world.
So, now I imagine these peopleare murmuring amongst themselves. Why this is
a common man and he's claiming thathe come down from heaven. And now

(06:21):
he says, I am that bread, and if you eat of this bread,
you will live forever. Imagine howconfused these people are. Now he
claims he's from heaven. Now he'sclaiming that if we eat of this bread,
then we will live forever. TheJews therefore strove among themselves, saying,

(06:44):
how can this man give us hisflesh to eat? They had a
lack of faith, a lack offaith. Why they did not understand that
Jesus was not talking about his ish, He was not talking about eating of
his body. They had a lackof faith. They did not understand what

(07:09):
Jesus meant, so they began tomurmur aminds themselves. So Jesus said,
he knew that the murmuring was goingon. Verily, verily, I said
to you, accept he eat theflesh of the Son of Man, and
drink his blood. Ye have nolife in you who so lead. It's

(07:29):
my flesh and drink it's my blood. Has what eternal life? Eternal life?
And I will raise him up atthe last day. The people,
those Jews, did not understand thatJesus was talking about the great sacrifice that
he was about to give us.He was about to be crucified and hung

(07:54):
on the cross. He was goingto give his body and his blood for
our ns. These people thought hewas talking about physically eating of his body
and drinking of his blood Verse sixtyfour. But there are some of you
that believe not, For Jesus knewfrom the beginning who they were. They

(08:20):
believe not, and who should betrayhim? And he said therefore said I
am for you that no man cancome unto me except it we're given to
him all my father. From thattime verse sixty six. From that time,
many of his disciples went back andwalked no more with him. Lack

(08:48):
of faith. These people did notbelieve that he was sent from heaven.
These people did not know what hewas talking about when he said, I
am the bread of life, andto live forever and have everlasting life,
you must eating my body and drinkingmy blood. So what they turned her

(09:11):
back? What? They didn't fallafter Jesus anymore? They turned her back
and they left verse sixty seven. Then said Jesus, and to the twelve,
will ye also go away? Sohe turns to the twelve, He's
like, look, they're leaving. What are you going to do? Are

(09:35):
you going to leave as well? What did Peter say? What did Peter
say? The next verse? SimonPeter verse sixty eight answered that Emi said,
Lord, to who shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal

(09:58):
life. This morning, each andevery one of us need to ask the
question to who shall we go?If it's not Jesus, then who are
we going to go to? Peteranswered and said, to who shall we

(10:18):
go? Lord? Where can wego? You have the words of eternal
life, and we believe and aresure that thou art that Christ, the

(10:39):
Son of the Living God, Jesussistered them. Have not I chosen you
twelve and one of you is adevil? This morning I ask you where
will we go? If you're notchoosing Jesus, who will you go to?

(11:03):
And you a lot of us havedifferent answers. And when you ask
people out to the world, ifyou don't choose Jesus, who will you
choose? And there's a lot ofdifferent answers out there, a lot of
different answers. But what did Petersay, Lord, you have the words
of eternal life. Some choices thatpeople have today when they turn their back

(11:31):
on Jesus and they choose someone elseto follow after people will claim that we
will go where the majority goes.Right, We'll go wherever the largest crowd
is, wherever we can find themost people. That's what we're going to
do. Because, sureley, sincethere's a lot of people that believe this

(11:56):
way, there has to be right. That's why we're small in number here
at the Church of Christ at MottiWar. That's why when you travel to
a true Church of Christ you willsee small numbers. Why because people want
to follow the majority. What ourfriends take is right, that's what we'll

(12:22):
do. Peer pressure. Right.I don't want to be considered weird,
right, I don't want to bethat weird person that goes out there that
believes in baptism for the religion ofsins. Peter said, Lord, where
will we go? Where will wego? You have the words of eternal

(12:45):
life. But people choose to followafter the multitude, after the crowd.
In Matthew chapter seventy, Jesus saysthat there is a odd way. Chapter
seven of Matthew, verse thirteen, enter year in at the stract gate.

(13:09):
For wide is the gate, andbroad is the way that leadeth to what
destruction. And many there's that multitude. There's that crowd of people, and
many there be which go in thereat destruction verse fourteen, they cast Tramit

(13:33):
is the gate, and narrow isthe way which leadeth what unto life,
And few there be that find it. There's only going to be a few
that's gonna find. But still peoplechoose, rather than to follow after Jesus,

(13:54):
we will go along with the crowd. We will go along with the
out. Imagine if that's what happenedback in Noah's day, right, Genesis
chapter six. It repented God thathe had made man, why because the
world he became so wicked, Andhe said, I'm gonna destroy it all

(14:22):
because of the wickedness of man.He said, I will destroy it all.
But what he found favor in Noah'seyes, right, and he came
to knowing. He said, guesswhat, I'm gonna destroy this world.
I'm gonna destroy it all, everyliving creature, every living thing. But

(14:45):
guess what he said, I've gotcommandments for you. Hope. We're talking
about hope. Noah had hope, and God said, this is what I
command you to do. And heI managed him to build that arc,
and he told him exactly what hewanted him to do, just as today

(15:05):
he is telling us exactly what Whybecause he has the words of eternal life.
Peter said, where are we gonnago? Where are we gonna go?
Lord? What if Noah when Godcommanded him what to do, he
would have went somewhere else? Right? When God said, hey, I've

(15:28):
got the words of eternal life.I'm gonna destroy this world, but you
you can save yourself. And imagineall of the multitude and the crowd of
people. While Noah was building thatarc, and they laugh and make fun

(15:48):
of Like this crazy man takes thatthere's gonna be rained for forty days and
forty nights and it's gonna flood thehorn and it's all gonna be destroy Boy,
I imagine it would be hard forme. Right, this crazy guy
says that God spoke to him andsaid, hey, I'm gonna destroy everything,

(16:14):
but if you build this great, big arc, you know when this
big flood comes, then you cansave you. And whoever is in this
arc. Well, that's what happened, right, the crowd, the multitude,
just as Peter said, where arewe gonna go? Well, all

(16:37):
those people want, they chose togo the other way. And Noah,
that exactly what God commanded. Exactlywhy, because God gave him the words
of eternal life, eternal life. But still people choose rather than to follow

(16:59):
her. Jesus, we will followafter the majority. What everyone else is
doing, what everyone else is saying. Then we have others that claim that
what we're going to listen to peoplethat know what they're talking about. Right,
We're going to listen to the educatedpeople, the scholars that study history,

(17:27):
that study the books, and theyknow all about these fossils. They
know a lot more than this whatBible knows. We can't believe what's in
this book. We want to followafter what these smart people, these professors,

(17:48):
these experts. That's what we wantto listen to. Turn over to
Isaiah Isaiah chapter or fifty five versusain't nine. For my thoughts are not

(18:15):
your thoughts. Neither are your waysmy ways? What saith the Lord thor
as the heavens are higher than theearth, So are my ways? What

(18:36):
higher than your ways? And mythoughts they your thoughts. You could take
all the knowledge, all the smartpeople in this world, all the professors,
all these graduates of theological schools thatyou hear about. Oh I've graduated,

(18:59):
Yeah, I went to this Biblecollege, that Bible college, all
of that. And what did Godtell us? What did God say?
Your thoughts are not my thoughts? He said, what you may think about
something is not the way I thinkabout things. Your ways, he said,

(19:23):
they're not my ways. It's myway. God said, right,
my way. What did Peter say, whom shall we go? Because what
Lord? You have the words? What of eternal life? But still people

(19:45):
will say, I want to go, I want to follow these smart people.
They have to know what they're talkingabout, right, they have to
know what they're talking about. FirstCorinthians, Chapter one. We'll start there
with verse eighteen. For the preachingof the Cross is to them that parish

(20:12):
want foolishness. But unto us whichare saved, Why it is the power
of God. To those unbelievers whenyou talk about the words of God want
and they said, that's foolishness, that's a bunch of junk, right,

(20:33):
that's trash. Why because they're unbelievers. But to us, that our Christians,
it's the power of God. Forit is written verse nineteen. I
will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will agree to nothing the

(21:00):
understanding of the prudence. Where isthe wise? Where is the scribe?
Where is the disputer of this world? Hath not God made foolish the wisdom
of this world? For after thatand the wisdom of God, the world
by wisdom new not God. Itpleased God by the foolishness of preaching to

(21:25):
save them that believe. For theJews require a side, and the Greek
seek after wisdom. But what wepreach Christ crucify unto the Jews of Stumming

(21:48):
Block and to the Greeks foolishness. But to them which are called both Jews
and Greeks, Christ, the powerof God and the wisdom of God.
Because the foolishness of God is wiserthan men, and the weakness of God

(22:11):
is stronger than men. For yesee your calling, brethren, how that
not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble
are called. But God hath chosenthe foolish things of the world to confound
the wise, and God hath chosenthe weak things of the world to confound,

(22:34):
the things which are mighty and basethings of the world, and things
which are despised. God hath chosen, yea, and things which are not
to bring to nought, things thatare that no flesh should glory in His

(22:56):
presence, all the wisdom of thisworld. What God says foolishness, foolishness,
None of it matters. None ofit matters. What he said,
the crucifiction, I preach A doyou what we preach, Christ Crucified.

(23:22):
Take all the knowledge in this world, all the smart men, all the
books that's written, all the universities, all the colleges. Nothing nothing compares
to the knowledge of God. Towhom shall we go? Where are we

(23:45):
gonna go? Lord Peter said, where are we gonna go? You have
the words of eternal life? Arewe gonna follow after? A preacher?
I pray this morning that everyone realizesthat not only me, but any person

(24:11):
that stands up in this pulpit ismerely a man a body, And any
words that I speak into you isnothing from me. Any words that a
preacher stands up here and preaches toyou, it is nothing coming from them.
By what It's coming from the wordsof God. It's the inspired word

(24:41):
of God. And we may beblessed, brothers and sisters to have the
health to stand up here and speakthose words to edify. But all those
words, all the these things thatwe talk of, is coming from the

(25:03):
words of God, the words ofGod. But still people want to follow
after you a preacher, Right,Reverend so and so, right Pastor,
Oh, my pastor said this.My pastor said that, did you ever

(25:25):
think about opening up your mibible secondTivity two fifteenth study to show yourself approof
unto God? Did you ever thinkabout that? Did you ever think about
what I may say, or someonestanding up here may say, might not
be truth. It happens. Ithappens a lot. Turn on your radio,

(25:49):
turn on your TV. You'll findit every day, every day,
every day. But yet people ratherthen follow after Jesus, they want to
follow after a man, follow aftera preacher, or follow after We've we've
got to include today, follow afterwhat a woman says. Right, it's

(26:11):
not just what the man says. There's probably an equal am out of women
preachers as they are men. Yet, Paul warned, Paul warning, Second
Corinthians, chapter eleven. Paul warned, does at corinth He says, beware,

(26:33):
Second Corinthians, chapter eleven, versethirteen, back up to verse twelve.
But what I do, Paul says, What I do, then I
will do that I may cut offoccasion from them which desire occasion, that
wherein they glory they may be found. Even as we we've got a lot

(26:56):
of people that want to glory rightpreaching the gospel. They want that glory,
they want that praise. Oh lookat me, look at me.
But Paul said, for such inverseity, our faults apostles, deceitful workers

(27:19):
transforming themselves what into the apostles ofChrist, and no marvel for Satan himself
is transformed into an angel of life, even Satan, he said. And

(27:41):
don't get me wrong, there's alot of good preachers out there, a
lot of good people, a lotof good men them, a lot of
good men that stand up for sounddoctrine. But also there's a lot of
those wild that seek that glory, seek that prayer I want to take away

(28:03):
from God because what they want tobe that person. Beware, Paul said,
beware of these people. In Matthewchapter fifteen Matthew fifteen, verses twelve,
twelve through fourteen, they came hisdisciples that said it to him.

(28:30):
Know thou that the Pharisees were offendedafter they heard this. Save that he
answered and said, every plant whichmy heavenly Father hath not planted, shall
be rooted up. Let them alone, he said. Jesus said, let

(28:52):
them alone. They be blind leadersof the blind. And if the blind
lead the blind, both shall fallinto the ditch. If you decide to
let a preacher tell you what todo, and tell you what's right and

(29:18):
what's wrong, and you don't openup your Bible, and you don't study
the Word of God, and yourightly divide it rightly divided, and you
see whether those things are truth ornot. Then you're letting a blind person
lead you around the blind leading theblind. Open your Bible. Don't be

(29:44):
afraid to hurt someone's feelings. Youmay have preachers that tell you, oh
you don't. You may not yourBible today
