TrnscndWellness is a Chicago-founded, women-owned company dedicated to creating toothpaste with intention—designed specifically for individuals with oral sensitivity and neurodivergent challenges. Their flagship product, Talk Natural Whitening Toothpaste, was inspired by the founder, Nicole Sain's daughter, who was born with a unique medical condition, is autistic, and experiences both neurological and cognitive challenges. With her in mind, they carefully formulated Talk using low-sensitivity ingredients to create a gentle, sensory-friendly brushing experience while supporting gum health and reducing bleeding for those with oral sensitivities. Talk is vegan-certified, safe if swallowed, and fluoride-free, using hydroxyapatite to strengthen teeth naturally. It soothes both gums and teeth while delivering a light, refreshing mint taste—making it safe and effective for both children and adults.

Listen while Dani D and Nicole have a fun, candid, and informative conversation.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Brilliantly Black Podcast. I'm your host and
producer Danny Dee, and we have this wonderful black girl
magic in the studio, Nicole saying thank you so much
for joining us. Oh I just have to get some
clasps to that, because I just love it. I love energy.
We were out in the hallway just key kiding like

(00:20):
this is my girl already? Okay, yes, so nothing is
about accident. I love this. I love it so much,
and I mean your energy is just amazing. And this
is perfect for somebody who has their own business. So
you know, it's a new year, a lot of people
are talking about health and wellness and just getting stuff together.
So this is perfect for you. Transcend Wellness, LLC. Tell

(00:44):
me about your business. Absolutely so Transcend Wellness. We are
an innovative woman owned health and wellness brand that will
offer a diverse range of personal care products. But I'm
proud to say that we've launched with our flag product Talk.
What is Talk. Talk is a natural whitening toothpaste that's

(01:06):
vegan certified and intentionally crafted with low sensitivity ingredients. Now,
I would just love to be able to just take
a moment and go more into how transcend wellness came about,
especially talk like why toothpaste? What is it about? And
for me, this is my extra baby talk. It goes

(01:26):
beyond just being a new oral care solution. So I'll
admit that at the time of this was actually a
twenty twenty one I was going through a lot of
life changes, and if we all remember during the twenty
twenty one time, that was also the pandemic, so you
just naturally had a lot more that you were thinking about.

(01:49):
And at that time I was dealing with a divorce
as well as I was learning more about my twin
daughter's medical condition and how to navigate through that. So
as I started to process those things, I didn't realize
that I would go through my own healing journey. So
I took the initiative to push forward that allowed me,

(02:13):
or rather I decided to put on my big girl
draws and say, okay, well, let me just do some therapy.
And because my therapist mentioned, oh, well, you know, maybe
we should do anti anxiety and medication, I said no,
I don't want that. So I was like, well, let
me just go about it. What's a more holistic way,
And if you know, you know, which was in the

(02:36):
cover me and the teeth, and I said, well, let
you know, try to look at it from a medicinal standpoint,
and I'm research all of the strains and you know,
I'll just be cautious. So with doing that, my concern was, well,
what about my teeth. You know, I paid for my
own braces at the time when I was like twenty
eight twenty nine, so I wanted to keep my teeth

(02:58):
pretty good. And that led me to just kind of
dabbling a little bit. I found out that eucalyptus oil
can have a lot of great natural benefits with the gums,
and it can help keep the gums in a pinker
state as well as it could naturally help to stimulate
new gum growth. So I was like, oh, I was

(03:21):
very intrigued by that, and I was just like, okay, yes,
I have to kind of figure this out. So with
using just toothpaste I already had and kind of mixing
some activated charcoal and a little bit of eucalyptus oil,
I did that for a few months and I was
just like, oh, my gosh, yes, I'm like my teeth
they just they feel so much better. Andul about the tea,

(03:48):
thank you. But then after a few months, I said,
oh wow, wait a minute, Okay, how do I know
that I'm not harming my teeth? I said, I know.
I'm not a chemist, but I could hire one. So
I was like, wow, I believe in what I'm doing,
and let's make my own toothpaste, Like why not? So

(04:08):
you know, we all know that when there's an idea,
it takes a lot of inner streams to actually push
forward with it. And I didn't just move forward immediately.
I'll be honest with you, I said, I needed to
still take time to process me. There's a lot that
I'm going through. But I gave myself a goal, and

(04:31):
the goal was it was like, Okay, Nicole, you're dealing
with these life changes and in addition to the transition
to like being a single parent, you also you didn't
realize that you would be divorcing your biological family because
of their toxicity. So let's get through this and if

(04:53):
you can get a job promotion with where you're at,
then that would be your green life. That was my
inner dialogue. I said, Okay, the promotion came, but at
that time, that's when life really started hitting me and
I got nervous. I said, okay, God, well, I don't know.
I don't know if I could do this. And that

(05:16):
was when he sent which I truly believed to this day.
This person was literally like his communication through a person,
meaning there was someone who I met as I was
looking for transportation services for my daughter with special needs
because it took her a longer time to walk. She's

(05:39):
six now, she didn't become stable with her walking until five.
And with this transportation company and it was a woman owner.
She mentioned to me her story of why she started
her transportation business. I just said, wow, I love hearing
other people stories. I too have an idea I want

(06:03):
to push forward with. I said, nothing else and I'll
never forget. At eight thirty seven am on that day,
she zeld me the money to open up the LLC. Wow,
because she said, okay, I want you to push forward
with your assignment. And I was just shocked. I was like,
oh my gosh. So I said, okay, God. I was like, wow,

(06:27):
Well I hear you loud and clear. You're telling me
to push for it, and I don't know how I
would do it, but I'm going to push for it.
So it took me three years of just testing and
just getting through the entire process. So I'm very proud
to say that Talk is here. I'm proud of you

(06:50):
and just to hear that, I mean, that was such
a blessed. If that's not a green light, I don't
know what is. And look at you now. So you've
been in business for what three years now? Yes, well
we've been in business for three years officially, but what
I'll say is that we just launched in November, So
I do want to add that in. As for anyone
who may have an idea, I would recommend don't wait

(07:15):
until you feel like you're ready open up that LLC,
because that is what's going to give you that What
am I trying to say? You want to have the
years behind you, you know. So that's just a recommendation.
Someone told me that and I listened to it. So
when the lady gave me the money to open up

(07:35):
the LLC, I was like, oh, okay, this is what
that person told me. Let me go ahead. I will
do that. And now that we are here, I just
want people to understand that with Talk Talk, yes, I mean,
it's going to give you a super clean feel. It's
a nice toothpaste that's safe to swallow. But I do

(07:57):
want to highlight the importance that we are using a
natural alternative to strengthening the teeth outside of fluoride. What
we're using is hydroxy appetite. And why this is important
is because as I was on my journey of how
to formulate a toothpaste, I learned that fluoride can impact

(08:24):
our pineal gland. The pineal gland is what is in
charge of our sleep cycle. So the more flora exposure
you have, the higher the chance of not being able
to sleep as well, that linking to a spike in
your cortisol, which is the stress hormone. And for those

(08:46):
who may be neural sensitive. I mean this is for
all of us, but for those who are neuro sensitive too.
One big concern in the autism communities, Oh my child
is just it's harder to get them to go to
sleep or they're waking up throughout the night. So you
really want to keep that gland as clean as possible,

(09:08):
so the hydroxy appetite will naturally strengthen the teeth. Our
toothpaste will naturally whiten a smile. We've gotten so many
reviews which you could check out as far as Oh
my gosh, it's helped with stopping my guns from bleeding.
It's help with too sensitivity. I love that. And you

(09:29):
know what, I have a bag right here, so I
can't wait to pull my talk out. Okay, use it
for my teeth because you know I've been getting it
right this year. So you actually you could smell the
men through the box. Oh wait a minute, let me
what I got in my bag? Let me see, got
to look right here during the interview. Okay, in the
boxing is so cute. I mean, I just love everything
about it, natural, whitening, toothing. I'm gonna post this on

(09:52):
my Instagram. I definitely will. We got to talk about this,
so not only talk, I mean you're an overall wellness company.
What else is there to know about your company? What
else do you got going on? So yes, I'm excited
to say that. As we are continuing with gaining exposure,
you can check us out in person at the water

(10:14):
Tower with the South Loop Farmers Market. We will be
there in person on Sundays. You can also visit our
website directly at our Wellness eight dot com. I love that.
Let them know. Sin let them know, so we will
visit you, We'll visit their website. And also I see

(10:36):
that our beautiful listeners can get fifteen percent off when
they visit the website automatically automatically no code, and we
love that because we don't want to be putting in
no code. Well, thank you for that fifteen percent, So
everybody check that out. Absolutely yes. And with having your
own business, of course you spoke about, you know, how
it started and just what made you want to get
into it, but you know, let's talk about it for

(10:58):
the people who are trying to get their business together.
What are some obstacles that you may have faced during
this process? There's plenty y So you know what I
just want to really shine light on when you are
starting a business, it really forces you to face your
inner self. It highlights the things that we may not

(11:23):
always want to work on, at least on a conscious level.
But for me, what I'll say is, you know, the
biggest concern is with starting a business we're all about
it's the money. Because let's just be how can I
get the money to move forward? And I will admit
that stumped me for a long time. But what I

(11:44):
will say is if you stay in that fear of mindset,
it actually continues to attract more blockages. I don't know
how else to say it. So it took for me,
and this was at the beginning of this year, honestly
my third year in with working on it, and for
the longest, I'll safe for about a year, I had

(12:07):
the biggest blockage with the packaging that you're looking at.
You know, I have a third party reviewer who would
read the verbiage, who would just stay okay, you know,
this seems safe for you to communicate Orsu's not. And
it was just a big roadblock. But still as that

(12:31):
roadblock as it was occurring, you know, a part of
it in the back of my mind was still like, okay,
well where am I going to get this extra money
from anyway? So I could push forward. And then finally
in January of twenty twenty four, because we are in
twenty twenty five now, but I was like, you know what, Nicole,
you can't worry about that. You better move forward like

(12:53):
it's going to happen for you. So I said, okay,
like let me do this now. What helped me and
I have to give this plug to Sunshine Enterprises Sunshine
Enterprises is a nonprofit organization here in the Chicago Land
area that will give you free training per se or

(13:18):
it's a free community so that for anyone who wants
to be an entrepreneur already an entrepreneur, they could take
a twelve week class. So it's gonna help you with
better understanding your finances, your marketing, all of those fundamental skills.
But most importantly, it's going to open you up to
a network where you can get additional funding, you can

(13:42):
make additional connections with retailers, which is what I have done.
I can't release that just yet, but that has happened
for me. Now. As far as the funding, Greenwood Archer Capital,
which is who I met through Sunshine Enterprises, they were
able to give me forty thousand dollars that I needed

(14:04):
to help me actually cross the finish line. Wow. And
you know, so there are resources out there and it's
a non traditional funding, but it was one where I
was like, thank you guy. And what's so crazy is
is at the time of me going through that process

(14:24):
is when once more a lot of things started to
go wrong and I have to bring this up. And
I'm very transparent with this because I think we get
fearful of when things fall apart. Is when we think, oh,
we need to give up. No, that's when you actually
should keep going because of anything that is. Look, i'm

(14:45):
a spiritual person. That's people can see your calling. You know,
everything is on the energetic level. So push forward because
that means that your breakthrough is about to have and
you just have to remain faithful still kind of you know,
make sure you're putting in the work, but push forward

(15:07):
no matter what. And that is what happened with me
and now here I am. I was able to even
fly to the UK, which is where talk is formulated.
M yeah, so it's in the UK, so I was
able to see it happened in person. And the crazy
part was I forgot that I had London as a

(15:30):
it was on my manifestation board. Wow. Wow, it's just
so amazing. I mean, you know, of course you're gonna
face obstacles, and what do they say, You say, you're spiritual,
of course, and they say that you're gonna face your
biggest obstacles when that opportunity is gonna happen. Yes, it
always happens right after that last big obstacle. So look,

(15:53):
at you now, Yes, spreading nothing but good vibes. I
love it. I mean, if you all could just see
her in the studio, I mean it's just nothing smiles.
I mean you can just tell listen, I can feel
the vibe. I feel the vibe and it's amazing. I
appreciate you sharing this with us. Of course, you know
we highlight our black businesses three sixty five and this
is a brilliantly black podcast. So what does it mean
to you to be brilliantly black? You know what? The

(16:17):
first thing I think of is the fact that everything
that I've stated that I've wanted to do, I've been
able to do. And it's the fact that I'm doing
it standing on my own two feet, and because of
the fact that I don't have any support, I really don't.

(16:39):
I have very limited support. And I want to be
careful with saying that because as I've been moving forward
on the on the entrepreneur journey, I'm very thankful for
the people that I've been meeting, So shout out to
Tony Kitchens and his wife, Mostnique Kitchens. They've been beyond
supportive of me. But I wanted to state that four

(17:05):
years ago I was laid off. I had no idea
of how was I going to push forward? What am
I doing? And at that time, I said, okay, well,
you know, tech was never talked about in my family.
I didn't even think that it was something I could do.
But I decided to just go on the internet google

(17:30):
some free classes and that led me to a four
to one hundred company. Now, so to be brilliantly black,
I'm like, wow, look at me. I keep redefining myself.
I faced so many fears. There's a lot that I
felt like maybe I had to get through the imposter
syndrome of but I got through it, and then I

(17:51):
took that leap of faith from entering the tech company
to say, okay, if I was able to do that,
then why can't I come out with my own tooth.
That was what helped fuel that for me. And now
I want to continue to even think bigger. You know,
now I would love to claim that Transcend Wellness will

(18:13):
be a household brand. We will be international. I want
us to be in the United States as well as
in the UK and in Canada. And you know those
are big shoes to feel. So I'm not making it
seem as though I have everything together, because I don't.
There are still a lot of emotions that I'm working through.

(18:33):
But it's not going to stop me from saying that
I am a brilliantly Black woman. I love that. And
you heard it right here. Okay, you will be worldwide.
You claimed it, and I'm right here with you. I'm
promised you since it's going to happen. You are so positive,
like no matter what, I could just tell that's how
you are in life. So it's gonna happen for you.

(18:54):
And I thank you so much for sharing that with
me today. Thank you so much, y'all all. Welcome you
my girl, Danny d forever. Oh I love it. N Cold,
thank you, thank you all, and please, once more, I
just want to give my website just please check it
out our Wellness eight eight dot com. That's the number eight,

(19:17):

you can get that fifteen percent off when you visit

Podcast again to Cold, thank you, thank you,
