(00:02):
Al Ryan. Alright, all Ryan, welcome back to the episode The brings
the JUICEIM your host, Frank. They're gonna stay. We got fres Tho
State linebackers. I got Belle,Ray and Malachi on the pod today,
Fellas, what's good with it?What's going on? What's going on?
We're getting with it. We're feela little warm and fuzzy today. I
like um Fellas. First of all, congratulations on the previous championship. Appreciate,

(00:29):
appreciate it. One of the hardestthings to do going from one championship
is finding the correct path to goto follow to get that next championship.
Tom Brady's asked, what's your favoritering? The next one, the next
one, the next one, Soyou know, how do you keep Let's
just come out of the gate thatchampionship standard. Hi, How have you

(00:53):
guys done in this offseason? Whathave you done? You guys are all
old, your old heads at thispoint. You've seen the good, the
bad, and you know what ittakes to win a ring. You know
what it takes to not win aring. How have you guys upheld the
standard of championship football for present State. I'll start with you, Um for
me. I just try to tellthe young ones, or not even the

(01:14):
youngers, everyone around the team thatwe have to weather the storm. Um
we let we lived in a moment. Everything happened for a reason. Um.
But it's a new team, it'sa new year. Uh Like like
like the old heads used to staywash that off, you know what I'm
saying. We can still celebrate itor whatnot. We have high expectations,
but just whether the storm, livein the moment. Don't let the highs

(01:36):
get too high, don't let thelows get too low. And uh,
just keep working honestly what you gotfrom man, it's practice. Like you
never won, you know, yougotta not be comfortable. You know,
when you start winning, you geta little little I don't know, like
a little air under you, pushingyou for it. But you can't.
I don't know. Oh you're good. I see what you're saying though,

(01:59):
because like when you earn in asituation, when you just have a little
bit of success, right, Idon't want to say your head gets big.
It doesn't. But you when you'reso used to keeping your nose on
the grindstone, just waking up,you're in the trenches. Grinding consistently,
and all of a sudden you gota little success, people start keeping the
thumb on you as hard and that. And that's the truest thing though ever

(02:20):
where like like I think you're tryingto explain with like, but you gotta
keep the troops, gotta stay tight. Yeah, you stop making your bed
every day, your your whole houseis going to go down, you know,
bro right, yeah, yeah, you gotta keep that standard is the
stand for great analogy right there?I like that use that one to Okay,
yeah, no, so go ahead, continue what you gotta say.

(02:42):
Yeah, just uh, don't letthe winning moment and keep going. You
have to wash everything off. Youknow. You win one week, but
you can't like let that push younext week because it's a different opponent.
You know. It's like, youknow, we might have a different team.
Championship teams out the same you know, so you can't hold yourself like
on that same way. You know, next game mentality, even though usually
you're saying next game mentality when you'retaking l you're thinking, oh, I

(03:05):
don't worry about next play next, but okay, we got a dumb great
next one. Yeah, right, what you got for it? I'll say,
like Villa said, you know, living in the moment. Uh,
that was great for the guys.I got injured middle of the season,
but the guys got it done, and you know, just living in that
moment and being there with them, you know, it was great. But
you know it's the process, youknow, to another one, you know,

(03:25):
and you just can't get complacent, right, you know, and living
in the moment. And that's everypart of the year, you know,
training, spring, coming back inthe summer and then you know you got
a fall, camping, then goingthrough those specific moments. You know,
it's just living in the moment, you know, getting better, you know,
building that cameras street within the teamand Bob yeah, yeah, and

(03:46):
that's how you know, I feellike you could bring back another championship.
And I feel like we're on theroad right now. You know, I'm
back healthy to everybody else is lookinghealthy good. I think we were on
that path right now. But youget to see so the process. Definitely
got to enjoy the process. Gottto enjoy the process. Yeah, where
you mentioned health the days we wereplaying together and and consistency of health and

(04:08):
understanding, like you know, takingcare of your body. When you're a
young buck, you don't really careabout your health until you're you're not healthy.
Damn there. Yeah right, you'reabsolutely used to it. I mean
I was in the same boat. You're eighteen playing highskeotball. Yeah, man,
get off the get off the busand let's yeah. I'm not I'm
yeah, I'm ready. Right,my pads on, good jog maybe one

(04:32):
up and down, lean to theleft and the right. Let's play.
Now. You need three hour activation, three hour activation. Talk to me
and ray like you mentioned, gladto hear your healthy coming back from it.
It's such a thing, though, from an athlete's perspective, where you
know the outsiders, they don't reallysee um the struggles mentally that an injury

(04:57):
tolls on you, like yes,of course you know you you you mess
your knee up, you hurt yourankle, you hurt your shoulder, Yeah,
hurts, gott to rehab it.You're all grown in, like God,
take care of it. Jobs athand, right, But for me,
at least in my time understanding injurieslike yes, I want to get
better, but it's like I justwant to be out there. Someone else
is taking my reps. I trainedso hard the other months of the year

(05:21):
leading up to this point, andnow it happens like how did you handle
it mentally and how did you maturefrom your situation this last season. Um,
I could say it was tough inthe beginning because it was probably my
first major injury in my career.UM I say it was tough, but

(05:41):
just having that support from you know, my family, you know, having
faith and God, you know, ohays heat that at heart, and you
know, just having my teammates, you know, my brothers there, you
know talking, you know, Ilive with you know what I'm saying,
Lavelle. So I was just havingthem around, you know, just being
around the team, and you know, just seeing that everybody else is doing
doing good. The squad is stillyou know, we come bouncing back and

(06:03):
you know they're doing great out thereas a team. So it's just having
it and knowing that and everybody elseis doing good, and you know,
I can't cann't be more you know, happier for the team. And it's
just it's just lifting my spirits andwant them. I wanted to get in
training room, just get better, right, you know, recover you know,
and everything. And um, likeyou said, it's important. So,

(06:23):
like I encouraged if you're a youngdude out there thinking its sweet now,
but as you get older, it'sit's tough. But uh well yeah,
I'm just having that support, justhaving my family and everybody around me,
Teammates, coaches, much easier saidthan done too. Yeah yeah you
said, you said it was smoothand easy. Man. Now, yeah,
that's hard. Like you, youyou like one thing that's different in

(06:46):
football. You've heard everything else.Yeu you're it's a ticking time bomb.
Yeah, you know your time isnot last. It doesn't there's no guaranteed
time on it. College you have, I mean with all this COVID year
and red shirt year, like theclocks bigger than it usually should be.
But I mean eventually you can onlyplay football a Fresno state for so long.

(07:09):
Yeah, you know, and thenonce that's done, I would hope
y'all have ten year NFL careers andyour juries are on these walls. Like,
but it's it's a tough situation. And if you want to pursue those
next level of dreams, like yougotta put some tape up. You gotta
have the right numbers, all thesevariables we can go so far into but
it is. It is tough, and like you know, Malachai, like,

(07:31):
I know that you've gone through aseries of different levels of football player
at Fresno State. You know youcame in as the young buck, earn
your way up, got yourself amajor role this year, and I know
you face your ups and downs. What have you done to just stay consistent
on keeping your head down and workingthrough that process? Um? You know
I started doing yoga. You're notlike that's the biggest thing. Is getting

(07:54):
more flexible. You know. Ifeel like one of my biggest negatives last
year where I was pretty stiff,So I focused on that, started hot
yoga and do that like three timesa week. But the journey overall is
like, uh, I'm blessed. You know, started off as a walk
on. You know, was highlyrecruited, so can prisdan State not knowing
anything, But each year I'm gettingbetter, improven in this Like past season,

(08:15):
like that whole journey just open myeyes, you know, gave me
more confidence. You know, I'mready for next year to come out banging,
banging, Yeah, banging changed thenumber We're number nine, so oh
yeah, oh I don't change bromthis man, you had a journey.

(08:48):
You had a journey. You've hada journey. Yeah, and now you're
going into that that that that thatlast year. Yeah, it feels like
like you said, now, itfeels like yesterday. You know I was
coming in as a freshman. Mylockerbody lockerbody Man Locker was right next to
Frankie d and Pat June. Youknow what I'm saying, Uh, coming
in with a highly talented linebacker roomwith Michael Walker, justin Rice, Aaron

(09:11):
Moseby, UM, guys like doorZel Hicks that did everything special team did,
every did all the little things.Um. From from being that scrawny
young kid coming in the twenty nineteento now being one of the leaders,
being the old head, being oneof the Uh. I want to say
faces of the defense, faces asthe team. Uh, it's it's it's

(09:33):
a hell of a journey. Yeknow what I'm saying. I just want
to live in a moment um can'treally expecially, but to try to put
in the words and to thank everyonethat was before me of um and teaching
me and building that that that Bootogspirit, that Bootog bread, the Bootog
Foundation, and for me to continuethat legacy with the young guys coming in,

(09:54):
uh, trying to do my partand being that good old head just
like the Ohs was before me.Not only Michael Walker, him, Juju
jb all the all the older guyson that defense was all played a part
in this, this role on thisjourney and this leader, this leader I'm
going to be Yeah. Yeah,it's crazy too, because, like you

(10:15):
know, football does come in thesewaves, and I think Fresdom State one
of the waves is and this isjust real and I'm hoping you guys carry
this even further. But you kindof start off with that struggle, like
you start with that struggle of ateam and you and you and you know
you're good enough to win because you'rebeing at a program like Fresdom State that
does win. Yeah. Yeah, and then you grow into this stage where

(10:37):
you're a good team where maybe youdon't win the championship that year, but
the whole offseason going into that nextyear is we should have won the championship
last year, we should we needto win this one next year. Yeah.
And luckily you got the right enoughseniors in that class like last year

(10:58):
who understood the back end of thatjourney. Where it's like, hey,
I've been here before. This iswhat we need to do to win amount
last championship, which is where youwere last year. Now, the pattern
is it's hard to go back toback. It's hard to go back to
back, not because of lack oftalent. I think that has nothing to
do with this team, especially youguys. I think that is you guys
would be just fine. It's ait's a matter of mindset and team arale

(11:22):
and team unity. The coaches arenear the same, so you should have
pretty pretty lined up, you know, mindsets on all that. It all
comes down to, you know, and of view the tight ends couple days
ago. It comes down to youyour weakest link and and and your unity
as a team. And if yougot that figured out, your schedule is

(11:43):
doable. Man. Yeah, Doble. Before we get into schedule, I
gotta quick shout out to our friendsat the American pastachio Growers. If you
want to perform like the pros, eat your pistachios, eat those nuts kids.
Do you guys eat pistachios at all? Yeah? I don't. I
don't just like them. Yeah,Gush eats pistachios probably with another Mountain of

(12:03):
Championships, says we can do it. Check him out, check them out
American pistachio growers. All right,So this upcomings year, a great slate,
a great schedule, a very doableschedule with some big expectations. I
want to go around the horn game. You're most looking forward to Malaco to

(12:24):
start with you, I always boys, Wizard, Perdue, you know,
pick one, pick one, Isay, opener, you know Perdue.
Yeah, it has to be Broeopportunity, Big ten, Big ten opportunity.
These guys were runners up on theBig ten, respected, Big ten
program, respected, highly highly respected. Going into their house, I've never

(12:46):
been at Perdue. I'm going, got my plane ticket. I'll be there.
We're red, rowdy, rowdy inthere, in there causing hab it.
Uh. But I mean talk aboutan opportunity, go knock down.
They don't know, oh, friendsin state, we don't know how they're
gonna be This year knocked the doordown on a Big ten team. Come
on, what come on? What? I love it? Great answer to

(13:09):
Malca, Right, what you got, Maloca? I took my first one.
But um, I would say, boise boys, why just because I
didn't had a chance to get yeah, and just knowing and being into the
atmosphere. I was there at thatgame, the first Boys game last year,
just being in the atmosphere. Ireally wanted to play, but I
didn't get the opportunity. But Iwould say Boys, I think that slept

(13:33):
on on one of the biggest I'mnot gonna say it's the biggest rivalier and
college football because there are some rivalriesthat has have they the school has just
been around longer. There's just beenmore history in it. But you want
to top rank top twenty college footballgames to go to every year, Definitely,
Boyse Frismo States up there. Thereis bad blood. I think there's

(13:54):
respect, definitely, because you knowMountain West. I think there's all this
comp re alignment talk, all thatcrap. Friends of State and Boise should
go together wherever they go, ifthey do go anywhere. And on top
of that, we just have grownto the rivalry that hatred. It's just
continue to just elevate. Blev. There's bad blood. It's okay to have

(14:16):
bad blood in football. It isa violent game. Good yeah, good.
We went to Boise for the MountainWest. We were talking trashed,
going into their bars out drinking them, all of it, bro all of
it with a smile. I mean, we're nice. They want to come
and talk crap whatever they want tocome, and hey, I just hope
this is a good game, allright, yeah, buddy boy, whatever

(14:37):
we'll see. But I'll tell youwhat they were all. We sat next
to some people on the Mountain WestChampionship. Real friendly, real friendly.
Me and Juju. We sat nextto each op and Hayn's brother. We
were all having a good time. They were chirping us. We were chirping
them till a fourth quarter we hirtthem and this old man told us,

(14:58):
He said, why don't you guysshut the hell up? And I'm just
like this dude's like eighty five. They were like nicely giving each other crap
like respectfully, no f bombs,Like hey, what do you think of
that one? Like sort of touchdowntype stuff? This mean't mad? Looking
at him like are you joking still? Because I don't think so. Dude

(15:22):
walked out of his own box.So Boise, you know, girl,
uh, figure out those two gamesare taken. What game you're looking for?
San Diego State? Oh yeah,I just feel like from coming from
the coming from media days in Vegas, me, and they're two leaders,
me and they're two captains. Theyobviously still think it was a fluke that

(15:46):
we want really Yeah, so Iknow they're not the only ones. I
know that whole city of San Diego'sthinking that was the game was a fluke
and that they should have been inthat championship game. And no, we
played them every year. I don'tlike them, they don't like us.
And it's gonna be the last gameof the season, and with the new

(16:07):
conference re alignment, with no Mountainand no West Side, that game is
gonna have a lot of meaning toit. It's gonna mean something somehow somewhere
in that game is gonna have alot of meaning, And it's somehow somewhere
it's gonna be the last game ofthe worst season. So it's gonna determine
do we get that extra week togo to that conference championship or do we
lay the ball out in their newstadium this year. I don't think that's

(16:29):
gonna happen. Yeah, yeah.Do you think you guys all were white,
white blue that game? Yeah?I think so. I love that
tradition, Yeah, I love it. You weren't even there with that tradition.
Yeah, I wasn't uh now,I wasn't there. I wore my
first my first first year freshman yeardid, but the year before that was
sophmore. Yeah. I didn't winthat because we was down bad. We're

(16:51):
losing to San Diego. Teddy neededto switch it up. We're going to
play in Qualcomm Stadium and Stanford justbeat I'm sorry sorry, San Diego State
just beat Stanford. Yeah. Whohad Christian McCaffrey, like christ McCaffrey,
Stanford, my boys playing there,Christian McCaffrey, Christian McCaffrey was still playing

(17:11):
he that I don't know it wasChristian McCaffrey's here, bro. Yeah,
I don't know that. I washigh school MC whatever. Teddy is like,
we need to switch it up,blah blah blah, we go white
helmets, white jersey, blue pants. We haven't really warned that combo in

(17:33):
my career. Yeah, like allright, let's go. And they had
two running backs that were supposed tobe it was I think it was Darnell
pump Free Penny right or Penny Enny. Yeah, yeah, they had two
of them. Some dogs. Yeah, yeah, man, I think Mosby
smacked in this. Dude, onthe opening kickoff hook. It went for

(17:55):
three tugs. It was lit andyou can't fly out of sea that night.
So we go back to the hoteland we're like, oh man,
we are recalled, like Dano Statewas ranked, knocked them off, and
then I think the next time itwas just like let's just do that again,
and now it's like we were blueagainst. Yeah, it's a new

(18:15):
tradition. That's definitely how it wastwenty twenty one. Yeah, they was
coming, they had they was seven, and oh we're coming off of I
want to say, we're coming offthe why you lost in twenty twenty one
something crazy. It's something like that, something happened. We're coming off a
loss and they're seven, and ohthey ranked in the country, all this
all that, we wear the wyewhite blue down there again. Yep,

(18:37):
it's like out came out crazy, came out crazy, and then like you
said, we couldn't have the planeright back on. It was on that
bus turned whole way back. Ilove that. Yeah, definitely San Diego
State. Definitely Boisi again though againlast time they came down here, we

(18:59):
laid the ball on. Yeah, sell out crowd, but yeah, we
need that we need that back. You'll get that back. Yeah, sell
out crowd Valley Children's Stadium. Howhas it been You guys played in almost
all the mountin West schools now right, damn Yeah? Is our home crowd
destroys every other Mount West crowds?Absolutely, It's not even close. Absolutely,

(19:22):
But that's what everybody was saying atthe media. They like they know
yeah, And he was like,it's not only least like it's a hostile
crowd too, Like the people behindthe bench, they really they're really talking
to us the whole game. Good. I was like, it was like
it was just good. It's justso compact. And then they said the
worst part was walking down the ramp. Goody, walking towards to the to

(19:45):
the ramp, Yeah, it's that'sthe worst part. They get the most
heckled ever. Man. Ever,it's adult stadium. No, absolutely,
it is great. Is loud?Yeah loud? Yeah? I like that
good. You know I'm on defense? Yeah yeah? Yeah? What is
the I saw you you at themedia days. You got the new jerseys

(20:08):
on them? Yeah, what's what? What do you like? Him?
Absolutely better? Shade of red.I think it's pop. It pops out
more boom Yeah, I like thatboom more brighter rag on the green V
on the green. Yeah, thatshould always been there. Yeah, yeah,
it definitely should It definitely should havebeen on it. But I feel
like it pops more. Uh.The material is different too. It's kind

(20:30):
of a tighter fit tighter. Yeah, so you know, old lineman really
can't grab me as much. Yeah, that's always a plus for me.
You really can't get arm tackle forrunning backs, receivers, it's always a
plus. But yeah, it's definitelya definitely an improvement for sure. What
about at the media days, didyou you kind of mentioned the San Diego
State people any and you could brushon this as much as you want,

(20:52):
but any friends, any foes outof that whole situation. Oh yeah,
yeah, oh yeah, absolutely. All everybody friendly. You know, we
all talked about our different exp withdifferent teams. Of course. Uh.
I was really like close with theUNLV guys, Naki Doug from the LA
area, you know, hanging withthem Sango State dudes said, I really

(21:14):
didn't talk to the boys guys much. Yeah, sorry, I was talking
to them, talking to Air Forcesafety. But yeah, everybody was really
friendly. It was all talking. It's just so funny how people kind of
have the similar experiences with other teamson different game planning, but similar similar
experiences. So just meeting those guyshearing these did their experiences, hearing their
experiences coming to Freds though. Iwas talking to a US State Utah stated

(21:38):
Lineman. He ain't been here sincetwenty nineteen. Oh he still had the
same experiences from guys to that justplayed here. So that's just that's it's
it shows that the rail wave statesconsistent through every year. It's important,
absolutely, Ray, you didn't startout here. Oh yeah, transfer talk

(22:00):
to me about what brought you thepresident of State. It was a lot
um. I could say Tafford playeda big, big part um Coach Skip,
Coach coil Um, but it wasa lot. Uh, I'll say
they they I just they were tellingme a lot of things I wanted to
hear at the moment. You know, it was a lot, you know,

(22:21):
entering the portal, you know, hearing from other Mount West schools,
you know, I don't know,I don't know. It was something about
the red wave that I you know, I did my research, you know,
UH did my research on coach coilor DC Coach Skip and Tafford,
and it was just it was justsomething about it. I just it just
brought me in and once I gothere, you know, just hearing what

(22:41):
they had to say. It isjust I fell in love, you know,
getting to meet these guys and youknow, building a relationship, you
know, off the bat right,it just felt like the place place to
beat. No, I get it. I believe me. Hey, you're
not the only ones ever said that. Man, Like, it is crazy
how it is a special player andyou know, I'm from here. It's

(23:03):
like I kind of knew it goingup. And then I look at my
friends now that I'm on old headand we're just going to like drink beers.
I got married recently. Like peoplewho came to my wedding, different
walks of life they come from. And the ones who stick around because Frisident
was a special place and with theirexperiences there were so great and they're still
friends with the guys they played with. Even though yeah, it's hot here.

(23:26):
The beach isn't five minutes away,it's a little further than that.
The mountains you could see them, but they're not like right up on us.
Like but also with anything in life, and you guys are from all
different parts of of the of theworld, where like life is what you
make of it. Yeah, youknow, you could realistically be in a

(23:47):
barn house with a bunch of dudesand if you wanted to, you could
make up have a fun time. It's what you do with it, broa.
And depending on just like we talkedabout earlier, what kind of team
are you gonna be? Obviously youhave that target on your back of wanting
to have the winning culture and allthat. Are you gonna embrace it?

(24:07):
Are you gonna get cocky with it? Are you gonna keep your head down?
And it doesn't matter. It's allpart of the culture in the way
you go about your business. SoI mean, Fresno State, I'm glad
that you've had a good experience sofar, right, but oh yeah,
definitely. It's also great it's oursupport from Manscaped. Manscaped who is the

man escaped constantly. They got alot of good products. Honestly, their
body wash, dude, it's gotthis little aroma of manliness. Bro,

(25:17):
it's fresh, it's good. What'sused for body one kind of body wash
you use right now? Um,I'm a dove guy. Stuff? Whatever?
Yeah, whatever, whatever's in thelocker room style, just walking down

(25:37):
like hey, Irish, walk down? Who got some soap? Whoever?
Don whoever? What kind of use? Oh? Well, you like you
like you're you need that doctrine tealsand I ill deal after that. Probably,
Yeah, I need that. Idon't even know what that is.

(25:59):
I'm confused. It's a quality soap. Yeah, yeah, it's a stage
here. Yeah, okay, right, what you got I say to a
log room. Dude, we werehaving this debate a couple days ago.
Like I said, my youngest brotherson the team. Now we're talking about
how guys shower and all that,Like high school shower is different than college
showers. Different. Bro, He'sa big Sandals guy, and I was

(26:25):
like, I just I never woresandals, and my whole generation that nobody
wore s I'm not talking about that. I've seen him with none. Oh.
I'm like, hey, yo,yeah, Hed, I'm like,
he liked Frank. I gotta go, I gotta go get something. Yeah,

(26:45):
they didn't have enough for revail. Can you give me something. I'm
like, man, do your thing. I'm just saying, like you know
what I'm saying, dude, crazymy class. I'm not kidding. The
twenty seventeen, eighteen nineteen dudes didnot shower with anything besides their bodies.
There was no singers. There's noway. I'm just telling you what happened.

(27:07):
I would say maybe ten percent, maybe ten percent. Yeah, I
talk to those guys about this.Interesting. There's some wildcats in that group.
Wildcats in that group, though it'spart of everyone has the tradition.
Shower in college is wild man Ohyeah, it's it's a bizarre Oh yeah,
it's appropriate though at presence date, let's make sure. Yeah, yeah,

(27:30):
absolutely, yeah, we're getting out. Yeah, we're NCA compliant and
we're good. You definitely don't needto. They don't. They don't want
to sit in meetings and beat thatguy to you get to look at your
left and right like come on,hey, go ahead, man, let's
talk about fall camp. Well quick, you guys are coming up in it.

(27:52):
When this episode dropped, it's gonnadrop. People don't really understand fall
camp unless you've done fault camp.Yeah, so you're starting out, like,
let's call it what like six somethinglike that. Yeah, what times
breakfast check in this here? Sixis okay, sir, take me through
it. We're going through. We'regoing through breakfast check in tape and treat

(28:15):
activation. Yeah. Special teams meeting, position, position meeting, o D
meeting, probably be OD meeting,A position meeting, to install, to
install, to get your through, walk through, go, get your pads
on, pads on, walk out, another walk through, another walk through,
what your pads on? Boom aplus practice three hours, boom three

(28:40):
three practice, ten minute break,A little slice of watermelon Riste treat to
be a banana. Yeah, thosea little waffle candle. I love those
things. Bro em get to them. Get you through, for sure,
A little get you through. Afew little buyers you get okay, Yeah,
I didn't caught the second win.Caught the little energy right there.

(29:00):
So then you go from second halfof practice. I'm gonna get a giant
cup of gatorade, yea something, walk back to the locker room. You
lose what seven pounds a day?Absolutely? Hey, we're getting a little
shower at a little lunch. Vibesare kind of good, little a little
tired. I'm a little tired.Yeah, what's for lunch today? I'm

(29:21):
optimistic. I'm excited. If it'ssomething good, I'm excited. Yeah the
day you are, you were youknow what I'm saying? Good lunch?
Yeah, a little fast track tohey, let's enjoy the best. But
then I'm looking I'm looking at mymy little sheet. Here. Do I
have time for a nap in there? Oh? Yeah? Fall camp NAPSI
essential? Definitely? But where areyou gonna take you there? You want

(29:47):
to drive home? Is waste tenminutes? Do you want to go find
this? You want to eat fast? And go find that couch fast before
everybody else. Do you got airmatches? Man, boom? Do you
just roll up a couple of hols, put the late next year locker in
a training room and just fall asleep. See that all has to come in

(30:07):
mind because everybody's thinking, like everybody'shundred people on the team. So it's
like, am I gonna go geta nice little little little towel? You
got another special teams meeting, anotherposition meeting, another o D probably a
team meeting meeting. You got dinner, dinner, another meeting, and then
another all those three of those, and then maybe a guest speaker sometimes yeah,

(30:30):
depends definitely, maybe a bootlog Olympics, yeah yeah, yeah, and
then snack, snack, then go, then go. So that's from six
probably like nine six, nine thirty. You get home, get home,
tired, tired, talk to theroommate. Shit, I'm saying, see

(30:52):
you in the morning, see youin the morning, all right, because
what are you all right? Yeah? Yeah, all right, you knock
on the door. All right. So day you think is the hardest day
of fall camp? I would saylike eleven eleven to thirteen, Day eleven,
day eight, Oh no, seedays because it's good. I think
bro one through the first two justhelmets, first two helmets, then you

(31:15):
got another two of just shells, and then you're probably gonna do one day
of like first day of pads, like maybe he's gonna really yeah, were
doing Oklahoma's or are we like yeah, are we just fitting up? Get
you get some thud. Yeah,But like day thirteen, it's like there's
not quite that second scrimmage yet.Not so fresh, yeah, not so

(31:37):
fresh. That's when that's when thekinks kind of something, something starts feeling
a little heavy right around there, around there, you like you like eight
though, I'm day eight, Like, see we didn't got we didn't got
through the full pass. Noah, all right, what's next, same old,
same old routine. Another eight moredays? All right, but you

(32:00):
got when school starts. That's acritical statement. Critical statements because as soon
as school starts, it's done. This game plan. Now, if you
guys can start school like August seventeenth, fantastic we had a year it started,
I think like the seventeenth or eighteenthfantastic weird a year we started like
the twenty fifth or twenty seventh, sickening. That's a whole nother week a

(32:22):
camp. Yeah, yeah, absolutely, another week a camp absolutely yeah.
But you can have like a littlefan day in there. Yeah you got
a fan dad. The boot onOlympics is always fun too. Olympics what
what what were the games last year? As ye, those bulldog Olympics.
Everybody doesn't know. The teams dividedup in the four teams, four or

(32:44):
five teens, four or five teamsusually like as a draft, different positions,
groups, all that stuff, Andit's not really football related. It's
more of just like competition related typeof stuff. But it's pretty competitive,
like competitive everything. Like there's pollhave and your dirty locker boom. You
have your phone in the dinner becauseusually they want us to because we're with

(33:07):
each other every day, so theywant us to interact. Get to know
the young guys, get to knowthe new guys. You know, we
want to talk. You have yourphone out, they catch you. Boom,
that's five points. And you don'twant to be that guy to keep
losing your team points. You're lookingat you in the team room like come
on, Matt, what are youdoing? What are you doing? You're
undisciplined? All right, just saythat, but yeah, it's fun,

(33:29):
but it teaches you about accountability toabsolutely, absolutely absolutely talent show, Talent
Show, fire, Talent Show. What's the best talent you've ever seen in
the Talent Show? Our Talent Show. You don't remember he come on the
stop? Yeah yeah, bro,Johnny Johnson though might have talked to you,

(33:52):
Bro, but he was a newcomer. Were you there there? What
do you do? Freestyle? Bro? It was was the type though.
It was so tight little freestyle.I haven't winning freestyle too, but Johnny
Johnny freestyle and he like but itwas like a three minute or two I

(34:15):
feel like I was. I feltlike I was in like aight mile,
Bro. I was just like hehad a crowd jump and I liked that.
It was the right. It seemedlike Johnny is that type of guy
that absolutely but Talent show. Tryingto think what else You're gonna get some
good some new some new merch AdidasChristmas. It's always a good day.

(34:37):
Yeah. It was a great day. Yeah, back back day, back
day. Do you remember the programof course, our friends of the program.
You remember the swimming, Yeah thatwas terrible, man, that was
that was during Foregamp and I swimno I can't swimp. That's why I
was terrible. That was a greatday and I love that type of right.

(34:58):
Don't don't let him for these Navyseals come, okay, Paul,
camp on your and water and theywant to teach us like it's like an
accountability drill, extreme screen. Theywalk us out to the pool cold.
It wasn't cold. It was summertime, but the pool was called it was
cool. It wasn't bad, butthey gave it was early in the morning

(35:19):
though it was like six months. They gave you a brand new like wool
hoodie, swe and and sweatpants.Everyone walks barefoot from the locker room to
the pool and they kind of divideyou up into teams and basically they say,
okay, you guys have I thinkit was offense versus defense. It

(35:40):
was like, you guys have seewho you have to go in the pool,
take off your your hoodie and giveit to your partner. Give it
to your partner, put it backhome, and put you to switch.
So they knew what number you wereand you had to like switch on.
And there was dudes on a teamwho like, you're not swimming, like

(36:04):
you're treading water as you're doing this. You can't touch the bottom. I
can swim. Treading water is onething different than swimming, and treading water
with a hoodie on is another thing. Taking it off and then take and
then taking it off is another thing. And then having to do this with
another guy. And like there's somebig I mean, there's freaking cyrus to
a telly. He's six five pounds. He's not treading water, Bro,

(36:28):
He's out there drowning. And I'mlike, bro, no, it was
no, I don't like water, bro. Bro. It was the worst
experience of my life. It wasthat was that was that was the last
thing we had to do before wehad to do workouts. But we had
to do push ups and burpies andeverything out of the water while your partner
swims across. I'm right, whenhe gets to the wall, you have

(36:50):
to jump in and swim across whilehe gets out and does the burpies.
It just keeps going like this andlike this. But like it was two
days out of camp. The firstday we had to carry the logs.
Carry the logs. Who's going tocarry the boats? And it was hot.
We had to do a perfect pushup. He had my man's door
zill calling it out. Why butlike he's demonstrating it, but he's doing

(37:15):
the whole workout, so now he'stired. And then man, it was
a whole bunch of long. Itwas a tough no light. But the
dudes in the pool though, Iremember, and you had so they started
like tapering it back to like,Okay, you guys did it under three
minutes, can you do it intwo minutes in twenty five seconds? And
you kept going back back back wedid. You got better, and I
remember it just be like this iswhat you gotta do right now. And

(37:37):
eventually though it came down to together'slike three week links. I'm not gonna
call him out, but essentially, like I had to switch, and there
was a couple of other guys thatwere decent swimmers that had to switch,
and you just I just went tothe bottom and just held their legs up
all they switched hoodies. Bro,I'm like, you don't have to trade
just half. But it was tripno, like that's the thing was.

(38:00):
But like the thing about it isCoach Tefer. We had team minute before
they came and he was our friendsfrom the programs about to come. We
WoT to do a workout, buthe said, you guys are like,
not even gonna sweat. Yeah,he did, keep saying sea. Yeah,
man, I think it was aloophole because we were in the pool.
It was like that, you're technicallyexact. Man. I was probably

(38:23):
one of the hardest workouts on mylife. And I'm freshman. I'm I'm
fresh fall camp. I'm like,yo, that was not It would have
been hard for a freshman to do. But nah, I wasn't in bed
looking at crop. He like, yeah, I don't know. Well,
there's dudes too that didn't know howto swim like me. That's part.
Had they heard we didn't know howto swim, Yeah they did. They

(38:44):
heard we didn't know how to swim, Like, let's go to seventy feet.
You have to trust your partner onthis one. You have to pair
u. I think they paired withsomebody knew how Yeah, you didn't know
how to swim that day. Theystill, I didn't talk to me about
your experience that day. You're freshman, Yeah, okay, so tell me
about it. Then we start offin the kidie poor or something like that.
Now we did. We didn't workout in the kid, and then
we had to go to seventeen andthen they hurl you guys can't swim.

(39:05):
Yeah, like, okay, seventeenfeet. Trust their partner. He didn't
even me saying he seen me runningacross the pool in the little Kidi POOLA.
I'm running. I'm running, butlike I'm pretending to I'm trying to
swim, like swim. I'm like, nah, like I can't. He's
like, yeah, you're going tothe seventeen everybody gets him, get to
the seventeen feet. I'm like, long day right here? Were you scared?

(39:29):
Yes, well I can't, man, I can't even swim to the
bottom. With who your partner? That's the tough one. They took care
of you. Though my partner wasthe wall. I didn't let go the
wall. How did it work?Yeah, my partner was Mosby. But
I remember Matt Lawson being one ofthe ones that couldn't take his hoodie off,

(39:51):
and so like when I took myhoodie off pretty fast, I figured
out a way to take it offfast and switch. And we seen Matt
Lawson struggling as we me and mostpeople was trying to hold him. He's
sinking. Yeah, so I'm likeyeah, nah nah, yeah, I
start singing. I let go fora little bit. Then man, mann
I try to I had to makemy way back up to the wall.

(40:13):
I'm like, yeah, I'm nothelping nobody else. That hoodie over your
face when in the water, Ihad to happen. I couldn't hear water
board. Hearing that, I waslike, damn, I'm gonna be drowning
you breathing you get nah nah nahgi nah yeah it was. It was
pretty It's pretty bad. But yeah, once he starts singing, I'm like,
yeah, nah, I'm not helpingnobody else. I almost lost my

(40:34):
life. Na na that like yeahright fall Camp baby, but middle yeah
yeah, eventually though you hit thattrigger. Though, you hit that tipping
point, like I said, whereschool starts. Yeah, and the best
practice, the best announcement is allright, man, we're gonna you know,
fall Camp's tie you up. We'regonna focus on ProView. Yeah,

(40:55):
that is like part that game gametime. Yeah, and I will trigger
of just like because people forget, you know, they think football season.
Oh yeah, it starts in thefault. Man. What was your first
parctice to January? What seventeenth fifteenthsomething like that. Yeah, that's what
I'm saying. January through whatever, you're going to winter ball. Then you're

(41:15):
gonna start like end of February earlyMarch spring ball. That finishes is you
got it, like two weeks offfor finals problemly something like that. And
then you're grinding all summer grinding. And by this point, I'm sure y'all
are about tired of doing a littleseven on seven, no pads. Everyone's
pissed at each other, they're touchingeach other, stop each other a little

(41:36):
too much one on ones. There'sonly like four routes and everyone, but
you get to revamp. The juiceis a little bit all camp. It's
like, hey, got the jerseyon, Yeah, a little helmet on
the first day. Energy is alittle high. Yeah, dude, it's
fun, bro, Yeah, whatmakes sport the best thing in the world.

(41:57):
Yeah, absolutely looking forward to Inever really looked forward to fall camp.
But this is me and my last, this is my year to try
to try to give me give meout there. I'm kind of looking forward
to it, dude. Yeah,I was. I was telling Trey Watson
that, like, Bro, yourlast fall camp like different, and it's
it's crazy is because like this collegefootball merry go round, like you start

(42:22):
and then like you're you're there asa freshman or you're there pretty much yeah,
as a freshman, and then allyou know is like it goes season
winter ball, spring ball, summerball, fall camp, season, blah
blah blah blah. You don't reallythink of yourself like, oh, I'm
a freshman, now I'm a sophomore. Oh I'm a sophomore. Now I'm
a junior. Like the process,You're always just constantly in your in the

(42:45):
process. And then it really hitme when it was my I knew it
was my last winter Ball and I'mlike, damn, bro, this is
my last matros. Yeah, damnmy last spring ball. Bro? Like
what your last fall camp? Becausefall camp is such an emotional toll.
And like not just you, butyour family knows. Don't tech, don't
hit you talk right now. Don'the not answered, let him, let

(43:06):
him grind. And you got agirl, don't talk to me. You
need to be an understanding woman rightnow straight up, because I'm in it.
I'm grinding, you know. Yeah. And but at the same time,
it's like, dude, it's funto see like when y'all had your
first one and you're tired. We'vegotten another meeting and you're just saying you

(43:28):
don't put some seeds in. Youbetter get start cheep your eyes open like
this. Yes, have a notebookeven if you're not even paying attended to
keep your eyes over. Have to. And also though it is, it
is the time where, like youreally are, you're getting better, you're
