(00:02):
Alright, alright, alright, welcomeback to another episode Did to Bring the
Juice Podcast. I'm your host,Frank Brenda. Today we are here with
some of the original juice. Yes, yes, Rome was not built in
a day. We'll talk about Romelater, but today, as we approach
one hundred episodes, this is notepisode one hundred, but we're close enough
to where I brought on episode oneat episode two two of my good buddies

(00:24):
Freso State Bulldogs, Studs Juice justambassadors at this point. George Helmith and
Kyle Rider Fellas. Good to seeyou. We've come a long way since
the pool table of my mom's basement. Welcome to Bring the Juice. Looks
a little different now, it looksvery different, yea, to the lights
of you. Yeah, I knowyou have the whole production now, it
looks got the jerseys up here.Well, you know, before I get

(00:46):
too far into this, and Iwant to we've been growing and as you
know, we had that one bankthat sponsors us. They were called Fresno
First Bank. They are now calledf FB Bank. It's this same bank.
They you walk in, they creachyou personal, they give you a
great customer experience. They take careof you. They're the place they're going

(01:06):
to elevate you. They are thevalley's bank. But just like Bring the
Juice, how we started local andare going national. FB Bank has gone
from Fresno to national. That's whythey got that rebranding. They're continuing to
help the people of the valley. But they're even bigger than that, just
like Bring the Juices. So shoutout to FB Bank, We appreciate you,

(01:26):
all right, fellas, uh listen, Like I wanted to have a
little recap because these last few monthsat this point have been a little exotic.
The juice has been hot. You'vebeen flying everywhere in Nebraska, Dallas.
I just want to I just wantto point the juice is hot.
We have had a couple of bigscenarios I was I wanted to do just

(01:48):
kind of just like, hey, let's let's come back to earth real quick,
man, don't forget where you camefrom, you know. And we
had a couple of Dallas trips,We had a few few flights, got
married in there, went to Italy. Italy, Hello pikaboo. Um when
when you know how started onion harvest, Like we're in it to win it,

(02:09):
and you know, I just wantto know, since you guys were
the first two guests of Bring theJuice, what have you seen develop in
the brand itself and do you thinkthat it is still in the room for
growth at this point? Kyle,I want to start with you because you
got the nice hat on. That'sa good canal surfing hat. It's great.

(02:30):
George, you're gonna have to answerthis one too. So, I
mean, it's been crazy to watcheverything grow and kind of watch this thing
that you you know, when wedid the first episodes, we're just in
your parents' base and just kind ofmessed around and now it's, you know,
it's become this whole brand that kindof represents the valley kind of you
know, has is continuing to growand I mean, you've got the fight
coming up. There's all sorts ofdifferent things and it's gonna be I want

(02:52):
to ask you, like, what'syou know, what else is in store
here? How how do you planto kind of grow the brand? Like,
You've got a lot of things goingright now, and it's it's been
really exciting to watch. I appreciatethat Georgia answered this question too, but
I'm gonna answer Klus. First,it is one of those things where you
know, we had the golf tournament. It was awesome. I want to
help pres of State, loved itin the rain. It was in the

(03:15):
rain, which honestly, one ofthe best things about that day was the
people who came to support and thepeople that were playing in it. They
were like, this couldn't be moreon brand. Greedy, good, good,
good good, and I we hada successful event. Even though I
think like seven teams finished the entireround of golf that day. Everyone had

(03:38):
a good time. We raised moneyfor a cause that I believe in,
and we all love Friends of State. We're passionate about it. We're alumni,
we're here to stay. But youknow, I wanted to say,
hey, let me challenge myself thisboxing event, which I want to get
into once George answers this question.Basically I needed to challenge myself. I
needed to challenge myself. I launchedthe Juice Foundation, which Kyle, thank

(04:01):
you for being on the board ofdirectors of We appreciate your service. Um,
I want to get into all thatthis episode, but I just I
want to keep challenging myself and it'shard, and you know, the higher
you climb that mountain, the morepeople want to knock you off that mountain.
And also the higher you climb, the steeper that that that grade gets

(04:26):
to chase greatness like you guys know, um, but I think if it
ain't broke, don't fix it.And what's our formula been our whole life?
Put your head down at work, keep going, be consistent about it.
And honestly, there is no secretform me. Man, Just just
keep your head down to work,be consistently doing it. Good things happen

(04:46):
over time. Keep original question becausethat was a long answer to his question.
What was your question? Bringing thejuice has grown since our parents' basement?
Yes? What do you think theroom for growth is for bringing the
juice? What's it been? Looking? As a guy who is literally like,
are you your episode one? I'mepisode one? What if I could

(05:08):
tell you if you were telling mefrom episode one to what now? We're
at one hundred, like where thiswill be by by now? I don't
know if I could have seen it, but obviously you did because we're here
now. But you've captivated a lotof people from the valley. You see
bring the juice, sweaters, hats, all that stuff everywhere. You've had
some amazing guests on but I don'tknow what's next. You've had a freaking
golf tournament, a combine, nowa fight coming up. Like big things

(05:30):
are happening, let's get it inthe fight. So I got these posters
if you if you drive within onehundred mile radius that to bring the juice
studio. Check these out. Joein on that. Oh anyways, Uh,
we got this fight coming out, man. And like I said,
we had such a good turnout forthe for the golf tournament. The combine

(05:53):
was a learning experience. We hada combine last year consisting of a vertical
of forty and a bench press, and honestly it was a success because it
happened. I wanted more people tocome. It was probably one hundred and
fifteen that day. It was sodisgustingly hot. Oh my gosh, no
one was in school. I'm notmaking excuses for myself, but I learned

(06:15):
a lot off of this, offof throwing an event. And I'm very
thankful to have people in my cornerwho, like you know, came to
make it a fun experience. Becauseanyone who was there had a great time.
Golf turmer, like we talked about, was great, but that's what
you can't have bad weather when you'reinside a casino and table mount casino they
redid it. It looks absolutely bad. But I wanted to challenge myself.

(06:38):
I said, hey, let's havea boxing event. Let's I want to
figure out how to do this.So you know, I'm friends with a
few boxers from the valley, andI said, let's figure out how we
can make this work. I knewtwo things. One, I want to
have another event. Two I wantedto launch my nonprofit. Let's do it
all at once. So I gotpaired up with Gonzales Boxing. They're out

(07:01):
of Madera. Great Jim. Ifyou're looking to box, that's the only
place to go. It's not evenclose. Shout out to Gonzalez Boxing.
But Gonzalez Boxing is basically a gymstructured within the USA boxing system. That
I said, Hey, I wantto grow my brand. I'll be the
you know the name, the title, the boxing ring. I will help

(07:27):
raise the money, bringing the sponsors, get people to come use my platform
as best as I can, andwith that, I want to have a
great show to grow bring the juice. But because I started my nonprofit,
the Juice Foundation. One thing itdoes is it helps sports programs such as
Gonzales Boxing. We want to getthem new boxing glows. We want to

(07:48):
get them. They have a scholarshipfund they're trying to work with. That
is a prime example a of theJuice Foundation wanting to better the opportunity for
young value athletes to be the bestversion of themselves. They could possibly be
so long winded, But July fifteenthat Table Mount Casino Resort, Bringing the

(08:09):
Juice hosted by Gonzawa's Boxing, twentyfights, fights three three rounds, three
minutes around. I could not bemore excited about it. And I think
people think I'm crazy for trying toput on this challenge of having a successful

(08:31):
boxing event. I just I youthink I'm crazy, don't You don't know
me? You should know that bynow. You should know that about me
by now. Uh? But boxing, what do we think hyped? Are
we hyped it's gonna be? Arewe hyped it's gonna be an incredible?
Dude? When when I mean,I mean you and I have been to
some of the Jose Ramirius fights intown. Do those things are awesome?

(08:54):
Time? Those things are. That'sthat's when. When was the last other
time you saw the save Mars underthat fall? I mean that place is
rocking, rocking. People of thevalley love boxing. No, yeah,
what about the fact there's never beena boxing match at Table Mount Casino is
the first on the first one.Do you think so I had to pick

(09:18):
a venue. Do you think there'sany um additional hype the fact it is
out of casino, a brand newcasino too. Well, yeah, I
think a lot of people want toget out there and go check out the
checking out excuse to get out there, you go check out the casino.
I don't know how many. Youknow, maybe somebody hasn't been out there
yet, but it's gonna be agood time. It's a great venue to
have it. You got we werethere for the Frezzo State football alumni dinner,

(09:41):
had a great time, had agreat time. I think for like
average fighting fans, you definitely associatecasinos with fighting, you know, that's
what you see Vegas. I'm thinkinglike, if I'm gonna go watch Floyd
Mayweather fight at MGM in Vegas, that's that's not like a uh you know,
just to oh yeah, I'm goingin a sporting event. That's a

(10:03):
I am packing a maybe maybe atuxedo, depending where I'm sitting. I'm
packing a fit. Oh yeah, right, I'm packing a fit. If
I'm going with the boys, we'regonna get rowdy. If I'm going with
my with my woman, I uhare gonna be looking nice. She's gonna
be wearing some some tight Am Iwrong? Am I wrong? Maybe all

(10:24):
crazy? But I'm saying is like, it's it's its own vibe. Having
at a casino. If I wouldhave it at Selling Arena, Yeah,
you build up the hype and it'scool and it's oh yeah, it's for
the kids and nonprofit blah blah.Hey man, this casino, it's kind
of a Vegas vibe. The firstone too, the first rooftop barb you

(10:45):
got the lights. Hey we justyou know, a little gamble, a
little black black jack, little back. You know what you can. You
can't do it Selling arena. Youcan if you get too drunk. At
Tail Mountain, you can get aroom and say there to night. Actually
called Table Mountain up, use code, bring the juice and get it this
count out A room at table nota casino. I know, I got
mine. I'm actually ranting out thepenthouse big time. Someone's got staying it

(11:11):
that night air mattresses, Hey schoolfor crash, right, yeah, what
what is your guys? Are youguys casino? Then at all? I
see my family, I see myfamily. My brother's like a gamble I
stick to the roulette table. OnceI get unlucky, I'm out. Talk
to me about your roulette playing experienced, George. Okay, my roulette playing
experience was watching Josh Hokett play inVegas, okay, And Josh was up

(11:33):
big. I think he was upthree. This is no. We went
to go watch the Krmer Gret Poyerfight. We just so happened to meet
Josh's family. They are totally random. But Josh is on the roulette table,
went up three thousand, lost allof it, took fifteen hundred out
the ATM went up again and lostit all again. But his brother had
rule of thumb. The house alwayswent. They don't build the casinos because

(11:58):
they're losing money. It's not losingventure, Kyle. Do you dabble in
gambling at all? No? Notreally really, I'm not where I mean,
I'll go to the if we're atthe Casino. Okay, you let
say you're at Table Mount Casino forthe Bringing Juice boxing event. You know,
maybe play a couple of hands. What are you playing? Like?
Spanish twenty one? Little Spanish twentyone, Spanish twenty one up? Why

(12:18):
do you pick Spanish over Okay, okay, better rods? I don't know.
I don't know exactly how that works, but you got better ods.
I remember that. So one timesomebody told you that that's now you're Yeah.
Me and Kyle went to a weddingand Tahoe and everybody was gat around
the craps table. It's not gamblingor me and him because we don't know
how it works well. And thecraps is like the easiest way you start

(12:39):
losing money, and craps it's justit's out of there quick. You know
what though, And I say this, I've said this on the pond.
I the reason craps is my favoritegame to gamble with at casinos. It's
because I at least feel like Icontrol my own destiny. You listen to
listen. If I pick up thosedice and I say I'm rolling eight,

(13:00):
but I mess up and I don'troll an eight, that's my point.
Yeah, Now if if some guyat table Mount Casino, I'm playing blackjack
and he's showing, you know,a two showing for him, and I
got twenty in the hole and heboom boom boom boom rips off six cards
somehow gets twenty one. Now Ifeel a little attacked. I feel like,

(13:20):
hang on, I didn't see youshuffle that at some point. Yeah,
this little machine does it right, does it not? You could count
cards pretty fast these days. Thatthe death. How do I know?
I'm not food gazi foo gazied outright now at this point, I don't
know. I think I feel likeI control me on destiny when I when
I you know, around the tablecasino. You got the table behind you

(13:43):
too, and you're like on ahot one. Yeah sorry, hooting,
holler and yelling. It becomes alittle bit of a team game everyway,
kind of. That's that's a funpiggybacking on this. Do you do any
sports betting? Um, I dabble. I don't dabble because I feel like
I would be totally consumed. Somy experience with sports betting. Uh,

(14:07):
when I was living in Utah,we were done playing football at this point
totally illegal. Uh. People wouldhit me up all the time and be
like, hey, what do youthink of this game? And I would
be right because I would be rightbecause we were so fresh to being out
of it. And there's certain situationsin college football where I'm like, I
know what that guy is. Like, take a mid tier Pac twelve team

(14:33):
who's going to play at Hawaii andthen and there's favored by twenty four and
a half. Yeah, that's itis hard to win on the island on
the Rock. There's certain things thered bandana game, Boston College. Oh
cool jerseys. I love those jerseysfor a reason. The man with the

(14:56):
red bandana from nine to eleven.Oh okay, I didn't know that this
guy played sports at BC. Becamea fireman, was in one of the
buildings, got that I got hit. Knew he was gonna die no matter
what the building was going down, but he had an opportunity to take people
in that were that were stuck andrescued them out. He went back like

(15:16):
three times, third time boom. They never came back. But everyone says
that. Nobody say like, ohmy god, this guy with the red
bandana saved me. They found allthe people that passed away and that from
the nine to eleven and basically therewas enough stories that circled back that Hey,
this guy with the red bandanna,he saved my life and it just

(15:37):
so happened too. He used torock the red bandana that his I think
it was his dad or his grandpaor somebody in his life gave him and
he carried with him his whole life. And he was actually at Boston College
Red Bandanna game. I think theywon fifth. They covered the spread.
I think fifteen years in a rowwere in those uniforms. Army Navy take

(16:02):
the under did a Did Tod Beamergo to friend of State? I'm not
sure. The nine eleven or storymade me think of top being a Beamer
and this being a valley based podcast. He was on the flight ninety three.
Yeah, so he was one ofthe guys that went and tackled the
hijackers and then they crashed the plane. Wow. The Pennsylvania Yeah, wow,

(16:22):
that is everywhere. I mean,as Patriarch is getting fourth lives coming
up when this episode drops. NiceHat, Sweethet, check out nice bring
juice, merch God Bless America. We are patriotic on this show. We
love our country, God, family, football, country, farming, farming,

(16:45):
juice. Uh check out the hatsthough for real and God bless America.
Fellas talking boxing more, you know, uh making this fight card.
So Gonzalez Boxing is handling that sideof things. I am trying to get
people there. I want people tobe rocking, bring the juice, rocking
boxing, bring the juice stuff, all of this. We've got some sweet

(17:07):
merch for this event. I alsoconfirmed today I'm getting free tickets to the
entire friends of State football team. They're gonna have their own section. It's
not ringside exactly, but it's it'sit's i'm gonna call it. I'm gonna
I'm gonna call it the Red WaveSection. Um. They're gonna have a
good time. I hope they havea good experience out of this, and
I'm I'm excited off of it.Um. One thing we got to do

(17:30):
off the golf tournament too, isme. I know, Kyle, you
were a big time with the scholarship, but being a walk on, you
don't get to eat the same asscholarship players. Originally, the volunteered walk
ons that help me for the golftournament, I was able to cover their
tab for so they could eat likescholarship players for the last semester. And

(17:51):
I reached out to a guy namedHuge who runs that side of things,
um the man man, and uh, basically I'm gonna do the same thing
so that they're gonna get to eatthrough season and stuff. But they gotta
work. They gotta work the eventalyou should is huge, but you should
ask Huge to seeing the national anthemfor the fights. Dude, I might,

(18:15):
I might. I need someone Justineready for those pipes. Justine Fields
might do it. Justin Fields might. We talked about podcast. He's a
singer. Oh, I don't doyou don't listen to the episode. It's
it's just released. We're catching uphere. You think you know a guy.
Um. Anyways, so the fightitself though, right, Uh,

(18:37):
Like I said, I'm handling thepromo. Talked about that, but matchup
wise, I'm not handling. Youknow exactly USA boxers. There's guy's flying
from out of state to come findthis is a big fight man from the
USA boxing stature boxing is very specificwhere you either are amateur or professional.
So you like Jose Ramirez, cannotgo find the Olympics. So there's guys

(19:00):
who are chasing that Olympic dream. There's an Olympics coming up to where these
guys are at the top of theirtier. They're gonna try to fight in
the Olympics to represent Team USA.And if they make it, great,
but if they don't, they're turningpro right away because they can start making
money off their fights. So thisis a USA Boxing sanctioned event and um,
but it's for charity. Man.So there's a couple like, so

(19:22):
does this count against the record oron the record or is it? Yeah,
exhibition is if you're if if you'retwenty and z and you win,
you get a belt if you're twentyone and hey, Jake, can you
pay me that one of those beltsover there when you get a chance.
Um, but let's just talk matchups. Okay, I'm thinking good before we

(19:45):
get into that, check those checkout those belts. You guys get that.
Check those puppies out. Baby,What that was that way deal?
Yeah? You got to belt onthe other side. That's real steakskin fell.
I had to kill like six mountaingoats for this to happen anyways,

(20:08):
so I can't even hold it.Um, let's just talk matchups that would
be iconic in the valley. SoI had Terry too me on last week,
and you know there's there's chatter ofTerry wanting to of Terry wanting to
fight in this as a celebrity. And I originally called him out to fight

(20:29):
coach Tedford. It's for charity,it's for the kids, right and he
recommanded, uh, the mayor JerryDyer. Me and yeah, friends of
Sathele director versus mayor Jerry Dyer. That might be the matchup right there.
Who would you take? Take?Gotta asking more up and hit the pads

(20:52):
or something. I don't know.I feel like Terry played Division one football.
He did, don't act like hedidn't. Now. I think Jerry's
a little more or still still likesto hit the bat getting real close.
But Terry gotta think he was ad lamme. He's got those heavy hands,
He's got some Yeah, he's gotthose heavy hands too. Mary.
I think he's got a chin.I think he's got a chin. We'll

(21:14):
go ahead, gear Okay, Sothat so I'm gonna probably take I'm gonna
take my boy Terry on that one. I'm gonna take my boy and I
feel like Terry has a bigger gastank, so I think Jerry might tire
out after round one. That's Jerry. If Terry could survive around one of
that fight, I think he winsif the Mayor knocks his mouth though first,

(21:36):
I don't know what to say,but I think it's worth it.
Odds I would say, you wouldthat guarantee re election? Yeah, I
think the mayor. I think thestarting odds of that fight would be he'd
be favored. Money line would beminus like one eighty five for Jerry.
Jerry. Yeah, I think thatmuch. I think you're I think I

(21:59):
do. I think I think Terrymight be the favorite. I think,
well to see, I don't know. I think it's a pretty. I
think that's a good matchup. Ithink that's a pretty I think it's heads
up. Okay, what what about? Okay? So we had the next
one, Coach Tedford, we woulddo like thirty second rounds. These guys
are a little bit more season Yeah, why do you preface it before you
said? Still got it? Wait? Because of his competitor, Pat Hill.

(22:23):
Coach Jeff Tedford versus Pat Hill ina boxing match at Bring the Juice
Boxing, It's not gonna happen, but it might. I'm gonna ask him
who's who would win that? Andhow many rounds? I will say this,
Pat Hill, former line coach.Dude, those guys are Pat Hills.
Like he's not leaving anything. Imean he's going in there to die.

(22:44):
Yeah, exactly, good day todie kind of thing. Man.
You think Tedford's not? Tedford istough, but he was also a quarterback.
How about this too? What ifit was barre knuckle and you got
to win your bowl rings and championshiprings as part of your nisition? Who
would win that? Jim Sweeney wouldbe in both. All right, George,

(23:07):
I would say that fight though, just because Tedford. I think he's
a little more youthful. I thinkhe's got a little more. I think
Pat has the great I'm not sayinghe doesn't, but I think Teddy's still
like he's got that secret. Ithink Teddy pumps out at least a hundred
push ups every day. Are wetaking this fight like with any Is there
like a training camp to this oris this just everyone gets six weeks?

(23:30):
Everyone gets six weeks? Okay, yeah, get they get They they spar
together, they do everything. They'reequally six weeks out. Okay, I
would take Tedford minus one forty moneyline. Okay, I probably take that
too. Yeah, what about allthe almond growers in the valley versus all
the pistachio growers in the valley,And I know they're crossover, but you

(23:51):
have to claim one who crossover. So I got George Holland over everybody a
little bit nobody, a former motocrosschamp. The guy's tough. Is he
a big uppercutter you thing? No, he's just he's just tough. Doesn't
say a lot. I don't thinkyou could win any of these fights for
discussing off of points either, Likethere is no like, oh yeah,

(24:15):
I just didn't get hit. Iwon like it needs to be an it
looks more messed up at the endof the fight, it'll be a plausa
meter. It'll be as it wasmore bloody. Yeah. Uh, that's
a hard one because I don't knowthe numbers. What about chick fights,
I got the who's some chicks inthe valley? I mean I could use

(24:37):
so my wife and my brother's girlfriendget confused very regularly because they look very
similar, very good personalities, umsimilar height, weight, morale. I'll
tell you what I've seen. Mywife off Man been married like eight weeks

(24:57):
now, so far, so good. Wait, who is who's the former
or mayor of Friends? Now she'sa lady Ashley Searing? And then what's
the DA's name Camp? Oh,Lisa smit camp Camp. Well you got
Lisa's smit Camp versus the old mayor. Yes, as squeering that might be.
I got smit Camp. Yeah,I guess mccamp. And she came

(25:18):
and presented to us. She talkedwith Yeah, we could get as into
that as we'd like. But that'sthat's crazy. So let let me ask
you this. So yeah, almostcoming up one hundred episodes here. Yeah,
yeah, that's a long time. It's a lot of triple digits.
So what's would have been the mostsurprising episodes to you where you like walked

(25:40):
away like you weren't going into it, and you like walked away and you're
like, wow, that was wewere the boys were going um uh.
I would say, there's a fewif I had to digest it by Denny
woodhead to your wedding, so thatmust have been a good pod, dude,
So I would say just ripping itoff top Cyrus to it Telly.

(26:02):
You guys know we played with yeahelectic guy. We had a dog ran
we were talking. We were stillin the basement at that time. We
were talking and a dog ran inand I asked a question and the dog
ran in and he stared at thedog flight for it was like I said,
Cirius like, probably good. He'slike that was one. Um,

(26:26):
you know for sure, Danny Woodheadwas was very for me, being you
know, a five eight white guygrowing up playing football. That was a
cool like wow, if I didn'tstart bringing the juice, would I ever
drink beers with Danny Woodhead? No? Probably not, probably not. But
now like we give each other Christmascards. I sent him some hats.

(26:48):
We're going golfing soon. I didinvite him into my wedding. Right,
good good, good golfer, Goodgolfer, something good golfer. This car.
The best thing Danny Woodha had saidwas comparing and scoring a touchdown in
the Super Bowl to flop shotting atsixty two feet from the pin in a
professional tournament. View golf. Youknow what we're talking about. You know,

(27:11):
these are Wade trips have been interesting. Um, there's a lot in
between. I mean interviewing coach Tedford, who at one point in my life
was such a you know man Iwanted to make proud as a coach because
I was a walk on who neededto earn a scholarship in the middle of
a coaching change where I thought itwas already earned. So me and him

(27:33):
had a pretty unique scenario. Andlike, not a lot of people know
this, but when I originally gotput on scholarship, he kind of reimbursed
me a little bit to where,um, we worked it out, but
basically I got to check that wasbigger than you know, we gotta check
that was that was bigger than Igotta check that. Uh along the top,

(27:57):
I gotta check that ended up payingfor my wife's engagement ring, which
is kind of cool. There wego and we respected each other and we
were friends, and I mean, you guys, I mean you guys are
you know, two of my bestfriends. Like it's easy to talk to
you, but it's one of thosethings where you when you go from like
your first time meeting Tedford and you'rein his office, his eyes are just

(28:18):
a little like deeper in his skulland he's he's he's kind of he's not
from I feel like people think he'ssuch an easy approachable man, which he
is, but like you understand, when you played football for this man,
there's no there's no BS standard.Now there's a standard, there's no BS.
You better own your role, youbetter go up cutting questions and you're
like, he's how do I answerthis? You want to impress him,

(28:38):
and I'll never forget. You know. There was his first semester at Fresno
State. We had spring ball andthen there was meetings after you remember those
meetings. Oh, there's the palmtree story. Yeah, there's never been
I don't think there's ever been cutslike that in Fresos date history. I
want to say, like twenty sixguys got cut that day or something.

(28:59):
And Colorado, Yeah, we werecoming off a one to eleven season,
Like I understand, but I hada great spring and I being a red
shirt freshman on that one eleven team, like I I held my own.
I traveled, I got in enoughto where I was like, I'm on
teams and anyways, we go throughspring and you go upstairs to these meeting

(29:25):
rooms and the six guys before me, I'm sitting on these black couches with
the bugs bugs, and these sixguys ahead of me all come out emotional,
they're getting cut, and I'm thelast meeting of the day, and
I'm just like, dude, Ithought I had a good spring. I
trust my God. I do everythingright. I have a good GPA.

(29:47):
I've never been late, I've alwaysdone my job, and I'm just my
whole life. All I want todo is play football with fresh State Bulldogs.
And I've done it for two yearsat this point, and but I'm
the riding's on the wall, rightbecause you your family farms, right.
The first thing he says, I'mlike, yeah, give me farm onions.
He was, why why do yousome guys because I go to Los
Banos. I drive through Los Banosjust one fifty two. It's all palm

(30:11):
trees along the side. Why dothey got palm trees every once in a
while out there? And I'm justlike, that's your that's our first that's
our first ward like like like likecase of discussion, like are you trying
to get that out of you beforeyou like, hey, I'm obviously the
big fights throughout the years, likethose will vary. I do want to
go to a McGregor. How manyMcGregor got left in him? Not many

(30:33):
too. It's worth it. Ifyou lose this one, I might be
it. Yeah. Yeah, Iremember early days of Friends of State when
Nate Diaz fight the first Nate yourparents in the basement was that Greenley,
a native Stockton, oh Man.That was hyped because all of us were

(30:55):
like, oh, yeah, Connor'sgonna win. Who's the das guy?
And then all of a sudden,oh it's crazy. Or when the when
they ordered the fight the Connorbert GregoryWeather boxing that for the team fall the
team and then during because it wasDurty fall camp. Yeah, that was
that that got round. Here's alot of arguments going on. Last thing
I want to discuss is Fresdo Statethough uh Tedford came in changed the culture

(31:18):
for us. My senior year gota little sick, we didn't have the
season we wanted to. He removedhimself from the team, came back.
What's what's what's the culture of thedogs? What is okay? What's Fresno
State's culture? What is the brandof Fresno State? Though defined by both
of you Georgia first, Well, the brand that's always been explained to me

(31:41):
and from watching front the state growingup was we'll play anybody, anytime,
anywhere. And Patill always said theguys in red helmets, they don't run
away from anybody. But I thinkthe next step for us is we've always
had we've always been successful, andthen the next year is a drop right
for the case in point twenty eighteen, we win the mount West twenty nineteen
years senior year he went four games, right. Then last year they won
the Mountain West. Hopefully this yearwe continue to build and have some staying

(32:02):
success similar to the Sorry I mentionedthis, but the Boise States of the
conference who just year after year continueto win games. We need to reach
that consistency. Yeah, that's thethat's the key here. Do you and
I've had I heard so, Ihad Terry too me on the pod.
Great guy. I hope he's continuingthe kick of the dogs. Do you
think there? And I I hadpeople who just kind of say this this

(32:27):
devil's advocate almost we want to goto the big twelve of the pack twelve,
right, we want to go hand kick everyone and continue to win
conference championships and bull games. Thelandscape of like nil has really changed the
game and shout outs all these guys. But it's one of those things now

(32:52):
where I don't want to be Idon't want to say, be careful what
you wish for, but somebody kindof put a scenario in my brain.
I think this is a good platformfor us to discuss where you want to
do all these things. But let'ssay we go and start playing against Baylor

(33:14):
and West Virginia and Kansas and blahblah blah blah blah. I'm not saying
we don't have the money they do, because I think we do have it.
It's just not out there yet. It's gonna take some time to get
turned up there. But let's say, all the sudden, Okay, we're
bottom of a tier because we're newto the conference. No matter what our
budget is X for nil. Justlet's say we get in the big twelve.

(33:37):
Is that that budget? How muchis it gonna boost because we're now
in the nil like I don't reallyknow? And is it gonna put us
in this situation to where we alla sudden can't recruit enough because we don't
have one hundred thousand dollars at willfor all these you know, three star,
four star recruits. The school makemoney regardless because of the Big twelve

(34:00):
TV contracts are far more than whatwe right. But we were able to
excel is what I'm saying. It'lltake time. But like TCU used to
be a Mount West school. Look, they went to the Cultural and National
championship last year. Yeah, thesethings just take time and with the right
person in place to get the kidsto come here. But even with the
school, yeah, yeah, likewe have say, you know, we
have kids that transfer out, likeEvan Williams goes to Oregon. Sure,

(34:21):
but there's also kids who go toPack twelve schools. You're like, hey,
it's not working out for me,let me go try it out from
the state. Well, and sothe sword goes both ways, right,
and and plus when being pulled upto a bigger conference like that, you're
gonna get you're gonna have a higherlevel of pool recruits. They're going to
be interested in coming here because soyou're gonna be Pack twelve exactly. I
okay, I can go play againstthose big twelve pack twelves. I can

(34:44):
go play against those brand names. You know that that I'm in that conference.
Now I can go prove myself andI get to stay in California.
I get to stay a little bitcloser to home. Yeah, then going
out to maybe like you know,a Washington State or you know West Virginia
said or something like that. Beforewe ask the last question. If you
want to perform like the pros, eat your pistachios, Eat those nuts kids.
If you want to get a goodsource of protein, excel and win

(35:06):
championships, eat nuts, eat pistachios. Shout out to the American pistachio rowers.
Guys. I saw an article aboutSan Diego State today announcing and they're
in the search of a new conference. Really, if you read the fine
print, it's them saying like wedon't we're not going to be the Mountain

(35:27):
West anytime soon. But nothing's announcedonce you think the first because realistically it's
Freso State, Boise, and SanDiego. Someone's gonna make a move first
on this conference re alignment stuff.Once somebody goes, do you think we'll
go in twos? Do you thinklike if San Diego leaves, will Fresno
or Boise leave with it, orSan Diego could leave and now we have

(35:52):
an odd number and someone else hasto come up. What do you guys
think is going to happen on thatsense? That's just a number. I
don't know what the don't alone, like what the Big twelve president wants to
do or what the Pac twelve presidentwhat they have in mind. But it
would just be a numbers game inmy opinion. If you want to odd
number of teams, you want toeven number of tea course, So who's

(36:12):
more paired up Fresno and Boise orFresno? And I think I think you're
graphically I think Sindo stasy outlier herebecause I think they just built that new
stadium. They just went to thefinal. No it's not, but it's
two. People don't like the newstadium, but it only holds like twenty
four. We're talking from a footballperspective. San Diego State also brings basketball.
Yeah, Final four Final, Yeah, we want it. But you

(36:36):
know what, though I talked toTerry on the podcast we want to Natty
in Baseball two thousand and eight,we're still writing that. They're still writing
that, when's the last time SanDiego State had a Natty? I don't
think it was two thousand and eight, But it's more of like what have
you done lately kind of thing?Got a Natty? Nebrasco was a national
champion in the nineties, Like Ibrought that upon. Remember you go to
when we played in Minnesota. Iremember looking up and they're like national champions

(36:59):
in the sixties. How long canyou ride the coattails of a program winning
a Natty? Well, it takesa good stewardship, And I think Terry
is yeah, one year. Ithink it depends on the on the school
for sure. Yeah, like, well that's why it's so important to getting
one of these. Texas won theNatty in what two thousand and five?

(37:20):
Yeah, five, Well let's dothat in six goes to New Year's game.
Okay, so Jos and six arethey are they still writing? Are
they still writing? Are they stillwriting that? No, Texas. That's
the biggest debate is whether it's Texas. They're supposed to be you know,
yeah, they're supposed to be back. But I'm saying Texas keeps say we're
back, we're back, We're back. Culb McCoy, we're back. All

(37:40):
these guys were back, is there? But I'm saying Colb McCoy was the
closest to Texas. They got smackedby Alabama, but you they were close.
But everyone but even BAMA players haveadmitted like, hey, we would
have lost if Colb McCoy stayed inthe game. I'm saying, how long
how long are you allowed to ridethe coattails of a national championship If you're

(38:05):
a brand like Texas? Not thatlong. If you're like TCU, say
TCU one it this year, oryou can write that thing for fifteen twenty
years. In my opinion, it'snot like Alabama's riding in their championship in
twenty twelve. So you guys,we could all agree at this table.
Frenzo State and Boys are going togethersomewhere. We'll see, because the problem
is that like the Mountain West andBoise are pretty synonymous. Yeah, that's

(38:27):
that's a that's a partnership, that'sbeen a lot, that's been around for
a long time. They've been Iwant to say surf turf is also,
let's go back to the whack wasdid Boise and Fronts State leave the whack
together? Or did boys you goto the mount West first and then following
a couple of years later we wentI think them w I don't know.
I don't know, but I thinkthe wax resolve them. They all kind
of yeah one same time. Yeah, I didn't feel at the same time.
But I'm saying, and I don'tquote me on this, but I'm

(38:50):
pretty sure the Mountain West and Boisehave some sort of a contract about the
Spurf turf because that went down inthe Smurf and when we went, that
went down with the Mountain West.I think it was like a contingency of
some sort. So if you're BoiseState and you and Big twelve says,
hey, yeah, you could cometo us, but you gotta get rid

(39:12):
of the blue turf, what doyou say at that point? What do
you adapt or die? You rollor you die? You still do it.
But I'm saying the Smurf turf.If Boise didn't have the Smurf turf,
I bet you the wedding percentage isdown, Like it's down a percentage.
It's it's even it's not even thecolor, it's the quality of it.
I understand the Moobal quality, butlike playing there especially, like but

(39:37):
when you're like looking at guys thatwe're all blue, you're hard blue,
all blue uniforms matched with the groundlike the turf. It's it's hard.
It plays a trick on your eyes. I can only imagine for quarterbacks like
Jake or Marcus when you're throwing theguys the dvs on, you don't know
who's who's who because you're blended inwith the turf. I am just saying,
yeah, we're late bendage there.I think that it's going to be

(39:58):
fun to watch this play out.I hope the Dogs have unlimited success.
Um. Last question, what doyou think the Dogs record is this year?
Eight and four? Do they makehim mount West Championship? Yes?
Okay, so this year's first year, right, it's not gonna be Mountain
West sides, it's just altogether twobest records. Yeah, but I still

(40:19):
think it'll pan out. So it'sgood. Okay, boy, how goods
Boys are gonna be? How goodSandego State could be? And then there's
gonna be one wild card tweening,Yeah, there's gonna be one wild cardbtweon
like Wyoming, Utah staying air Force, they'll be a wild card in there.
Yeah, one team air Force mightbe good or whoever. Colorado State,
Colorado. I always thought when theygot built the new stadium when we
were like twe still playing. Yeah, I thought they were going here.

(40:42):
Coach Skip was recruiting men. Mightdo you do Coach Skips? Pretty cool
there you're eight and four. I'mgonna say eight and four and they be
ASU. But you know, we'llplay a couple of tough conference versions.
Who big team it's just hard tosay Big ten team? Who lost in
the Big Ten championship last year?By the way, Yeah, so good

(41:06):
eight four? Do they go tothe mount Last Championship or not? Say
yes? Do they win their bowlgame? We don't lose ball games.
Whoa with a class academic? Yes? What's your three? Okay? Sorry,
guys, I have confidence in you. But if he was saying,

(41:36):
dude, I think, I mean, it's gonna be really interesting to see
other quarterback situation, you know, plays out through fall camp. It's always
a battle. It's always you know, Coach Tefford, he's gonna be pushing
those guys hard. It's gonna beyou know, developing those guys, getting
them ready, getting getting them sharp, and Steve Stephen, Compstock and mac
dalana get all conference honors. Bigguesses are of it. I'm gonna go

(42:00):
I'm gonna go uh ten in two, they win one of the games.
Dude, come here, told meseven and five before we film, you
said you might know win five games. Ten in two. They'll win one
of the games between Boise, I'msorry, between uh Arizona and Purdue,
they'll win one of those. Atleast at least we're down at least one

(42:23):
of those. They're gonna have agame though, They're gonna have a wake
up game inna be a you knowthe game for us or like it's gonna
it's gonna be They're gonna have awake up game on the road. They're
gonna have a wake up game, but they'll put that don't put that evil

(42:45):
on them. Come on, hey, I got confidence in the boys in
every game, but it out.I'm just gonna leave us one thing.
It's hard to win a football game. String them together. It's tough boys.
