All Ryinal Rhinal Ryan, Welcome tothe episode of the Bringing Juice podcast.
We're in away game in Arizona.I'm co hosted by Juwan who used also
known as Juju Hughes, also myformer roommate current Arizona Cardinal. Today on
the pod we have Josh Woods fromthe Arizona Cardinal. You guys go way
back from Detroit, Jue, whydon't you go ahead and talk to me
(00:22):
about how you and Josh Matt howme and Josh man Man. That's a
good question. How he started off? I don't know, But honestly,
I know, I can't say.From the moment I got out there in
Detroit. Woods is definitely one ofthe first people I could say we was.
We was hanging out, he waskicking it. We definitely was.
His room was right next to minein the hotel. That might that might
have gotta started. That might havegotta started us being right next to each
(00:45):
other in the hotel room. Andfrom there, you know, just no
great minds thinking like we kind oflinked up, started hanging out. It's
doing fun things together, doing funthings together, you know, guys being
dudes, hanging out exactly. That'sall it was you know, man,
good dude, so good dudes,no good dudes, and just went from
there, you know, start hangingout, kicking it. Let us here
(01:07):
a year later. Now you're herein Arizona. Don't bring the juice.
I don't bring the juice. Man. So Josh, would you would you
say that's a pretty accurate story. They're pretty accurate. Yeah, I think
any details he missed, you think, Yeah, I noticed that he always
had a toothpick. Let's let's wantto get that. Let's just get into
(01:27):
it. Get it. Let's getinto the tooth So he had a toothpick
and we were in the middle ofworking out and he pulls out a fresh
one from his compression short twaistband andit in mid workout and I see it
and no one else is paying attention. I'm like, yo, that's the
(01:49):
cool, and he like, I'mtalking practice with a helmet on toothpick.
I just start toothpick what you're doinglater, and you know, we would
just hang out, go grab foodafter workouts or whatever during that camp.
Was that like, so we hadplenty of time. Yeah, you know,
he's good. Clothing story were bothlike closer in the fashion definitely both
(02:14):
in the fashion stuff. Yeah, you gotta do a little stuff like that,
hang out good clothing stores. Heput me all some spots out there
for sure. Now, my dadalways has a toothpick, Like my dad
will smoke a cigarette with a toothpickon the other side. Like never it's
knowing Juju or he always had.No Since I've known the man had a
toothpick, I've never seen him withouta toothpick. So with Jude, when
(02:36):
I saw Juju did the same thing, I was like, it's gotta be
a good guy. Yeah, atoothpick created a friendship pretty much. That's
awesome, though, man, prettymuch. Yeah, so you know originally
of course as the actual podcast host, Jujus doing a great job so far.
By the way, uh, youwent to Maryland, played dB and
(02:57):
then you get to the Bears andnow you're not a dB either, asking
you to become linebacker, right, talk to me about that whole Let's talk
about the conversation. How that conversation. Okay, So I had gotten hurt.
I had gotten hurt my senior year. End of I think I missed
like the last two games. Ibroke my first rib. So I'm done
(03:19):
careers over but I meet this scoutin the building that goes like, hey,
you've been having a good year,like it's not over because I was
ready. I was just like, damgn, like you were ready to be
like I'm doubling football. Well,yeah, I hadn't had a great career
up until senior year, and thensenior year was cut short. So I
was like, wow, this isprobably this is not a likely league story,
(03:40):
you know. And so while Iwas injured, I couldn't work out
or anything, couldn't do anything, wasn't cleared. So I was taking like
creatine, still taking my super greensand everything. And next thing I know,
once I was working out preparing forlike prote and stuff, I helped
on the scouts like two twenty.I was like, damn, I got
(04:00):
too big right there. There aren'ttoo many two twenty safeties anymore. So
I had cut that down and I'llprobably weighed in at two twelve ish for
a pro day, And by thetime we got to rookie Mini camp,
I was back up to like twoseventeen. And the entire time there,
I mean, and I'm making myselfknown, right, I was just I
(04:20):
just had an invitation when I'm talking. I'm making, you know, making
adjustments. Is then the third soI'm turning heads. But they dB coach
just keeps saying, he said,we practiced two full days and after the
second day they told me get onthe scale after practice. Scale still reads
two fifteen. This is after practice. You should have lost co of pounds.
(04:43):
They said, you ever played inthe box and I was like,
no, not really no, butthey sent They sent me home that day,
going into the third day of minicamp, and they were like,
hey, we're gonna try to,you know, put you in the box,
see how see how you move whatever. We don't care that you don't
know anything about linebacker. So obviouslydidn't get signed right then and there they
(05:05):
sent me home. I thought Ithought it was over again. I called
my mom, said mind, Igave him my old it didn't sign,
and my agent I'm crying on thephone at kids, you're not crying on
the phone. In the back ofthe bus on my way to the APP
He's like, dude, they didn'tthey didn't tell you anything. I was
like, no, said, bro, they're inviting you back for VET minicamp.
They just want you to gain weight. And I'd been eating salads the
(05:29):
last three days. I know, like I said, I was too heavy,
So I was like, I getto eat again, So I promise
you. I was eating steak, mashed potatoes, and broccoli every day for
five weeks and I came back attwo thirty two and got my contract.
Wow. Yes, so you getit was the first time because you again
you said you were heavier. Safetyyou get the whole scrip. Got flipped
from washing my way, eating saladsreally portion and controlling to let the big
(05:54):
dog eat, they eat, andI'll get you. Yeah. So I
was working with this guy, coachKeith, out in Mary and I called
him after I get the green liketo start, I say, because he
used to take us to lunch everyday. But he would be on me
like, no, you can onlyget a salad, you know that type
of talking. Yeah, and Isay, coach Keith, it's on baby
steak and coach Keith. Coach Keith. Coach Keith actually bought that steak every
(06:19):
day for lunch those five weeks traininggoing into rookie Minicamp. That's a pretty
cool relationship there. Oh yeah,no, he's he's he's a good guy.
He's a really good guy. Butyeah, the transitional linebacker obviously was
not easy at this level. UMstill learning a lot of stuff about it,
but uh it's been great. LikeI miss safety, but safety wasn't
(06:44):

(08:20):
Like that transition from safety the linebackers, Like, you know, I
play safety. You know we dosome things together. I see what you
guys have to do compared to well, we have to do it safety.
But like talk about that full transitionto have to be like a full time
linebacker. You're in that box, you're making calls. Like the first time
it actually hit me was so Iwas a box safety at Maryland's even still
(08:43):
so like Savage would play the postand I would come down when we were
playing covered three and you know inthe rum fit, you're uncounted. Yeah
every time, every time, Yeah, I go out there with the Bears
against the Texans. Sorry, andit's really garbage time at this point,
right, but Deshaun looks right atme and he goes fifty five's the mic.
(09:09):
I said, they see me legit. And I mean the thing about
safety is that you can see everything, and linebacker you have to feel it
and like it's instinctual. But ifyou've never done it, then you don't
have those instincts, right, Soeverything just happens that much quicker. You're
(09:30):
at five yards not twelve. Youknow, Um, things are happening by
things are whizzing in front of you. Know what I'm saying. Safety is
just like I feel like every positionhas a very unique perspective of the game
and so you have to refocus youreyes, rewire your brain to see different
things. Yeah. I definitely hassome good linebackers to learn from there with
Danny T and Roquan in Chicago myfirst two years, a Super Bowl champ
(09:54):
and the newly highest paid defensive linebacker. Yeah, some great guys, you
know what I mean, learn inhistory of the NFL. So yeah,
some good guys to be behind, for sure. Yeah. Out of all
of that, what would you sayit was the hardest thing to adjust to.
Obviously, you said you're closer tothe ball, you got to feel
it out reading a box. SoI think my safety back, my dB
(10:16):
background definitely helps me with coverages.I don't struggle understanding how those pieces fit
together. The hardest thing for mewas guardpool running back that way, you
know what I mean, just everythinghappening so fast in front of you and
you're so close to it that thereading the box in the run game was
so much harder. At the linebackerposition for me, I didn't like,
(10:41):
I didn't know any of that stuff, Like you think you know football until
you get to the league. Well, but also, I mean, to
get dropped in a professional sport arguablythe hardest league in the world in the
professional sport category and getting switched positions, that's a that doesn't I mean,
how many times that happened a year? Very very very few, very few
(11:03):
get to this point and then getmaybe figured out on the way. Yeah,
what I'm saying, maybe you're asophomore tight end in college and they
you know, you're getting a littlereceiver in high school. So I did.
I was playing corner initially at Marylandand then got switched to safety midway
through. So like I've been alittle everyone, I've never got you the
(11:24):
longest I've played a position at thispoint. Yeah, this is the one
that's just taken for a minute. What would you say then? You know,
you talked about the disadvantages you havehad UM going from dB two linebacker,
but because you play dB for aperiod of time, you have to
have some some tools in your toolboxthat are now an advantage essentially as a
(11:46):
linebacker. Yeah, oh absolutely,I can. I can cover. I
can cover just about anybody. Like, it's not I don't. I don't
feel as though I'm a matchup problemright out there at all. Like I'm
not how people try to get aslot receiver on the MIC, or you
know, you get a quick backlike a scat back or something like that.
Like, I definitely feel like myskill set allows for me to be
(12:09):
able to do what a will linebackerdoes in this league, which is a
lot of times eliminate those backside ofthe backfield or tight end um. I
think that's probably the biggest thing inmy skill set that I have gone from
me. Yeah, just coverage wise, No, I definitely see what's crazy
to me is you said the hardestthing you had to adjust to is probably
(12:31):
reading that box. I would Iwas just looking on the outside looking in.
You didn't you wouldn't hate having togo be counting for with them being
in all day every day, Likethat would be like you know, as
a safety, I love it.Like you said, we're not counting for
right, So like if a linemangets to me, somebody else should already
made the play, made the tackleif he even gets to me, So
you like you're counting for the guardis like yeah, I'm getting Yeah,
(12:56):
that's that guy. Yeah, that'sthe part of me likes that, Like
how did that wouldn't be something?I mean, that's that's still kind of
all the same things. But whenI say yeah, like that's all like
that's all the same thing, LikeI'm not necessarily talking about like fundamentals,
but in the box like that,I'm talking about legitimately reading the box.
Like Okay, am I in athirty here? Or am I in a
ten? You are in a looseforty, like you know what I mean?
(13:20):
Things because those little adjustments like literallyone step to the right or one
step to the left the wrong wayand your out leverage to the stretch or
things like that, you know, and now gaping hole, Yeah, gaping
hole. Now now it was onetwo three remkey running back broke. Yeah,
you can't. But in that linebackerlike you really can't mess up.
(13:43):
Yeah, that's things like you gottakind of be perfect, like it's legit
quarterback at my like, in myopinion, it's quarterback of the defense.
You gotta know what's going on behindyou, you gotta know what's going on
in front of you. Gotta fixpeople like it's a lot me wearing a
green dot for the first time inDenver was so hard. Oh, tell
me about that green Die couldn't breathetalking too much. Yeah, I couldn't
(14:07):
breathe, and then I'm talking andnobody wants to echo the call, so
that what's the call to get feedin five though? Yeah, get him
here, everybody. I'm saying thisone time, one time. No,
but it was it was really coolthough. That was a cool experience for
sure. So going from you know, the Bears took a chance on you
(14:28):
as enough undrafted free agent, andyou get this transition of you know,
you don't know if you're getting gonnaplay all of a sudden, you're a
linebacker in the NFL. It seemslike the Bears invested in your better future,
the better they were looking into yourfuture in the NFL essentially, So
when you get from the Bears tothe Lions, was there any sense of
(14:50):
I hope they believe in me theway the Bears did essentially, or at
that point did you feel like youhad enough proven NFL experience to where you
had your niche and you did whatyou did well well. The way I
got over here was pretty cool.I actually the linebacker coach when I got
picked or I guess poached off thepractice squad from the Bears was my previous
(15:11):
coach in Chicago the past two years, so he knew and we were we
were having a conversation. He wastelling me like, hey, you know,
your role right now isn't necessarily goingto be linebacker. We're not asking
you to come in and play linebacker, you know, We're asking you to
come in shift the culture and likedo what you do at on special teams
like we need you, and thenwherever you know you may fall in rotationally
(15:35):
at linebacker, that's up to you. But it's a brand new beginning just
come in and be you. Yeah, that's what he told me. Big
locker room guy. Oh yeah, very big locker room energy. I can
give him that. You know,he's the the you know, the life
of the party, the life ofthe locker rooms that you guys. You
guys bring you to the locker room. For sure. I definitely know how
(15:56):
to bring the juice if that's whatIf that's what you're asking, yeah,
I can vouch for that. Ican vouch for that for me. Yeah,
if there's another bring the juice candidate, he'd be a Yeah, he's
he's a front runner for that.I love that, man. I mean,
like Juju was saying, you werethe special team's captain for the for
the Lions. That correct. Yeah, Lions seemed again I'm not in there.
(16:18):
Lion seemed like a rowdy team tobe a part of at the time.
You guys were a part of it. Yeah, it was definitely headed
in a very direction. Yeah, sure, talk to you about you know
that that coaching staff from the topdown. You know. Dan Campbell seems
like he's I really enjoyed playing forDetroit. He seems like he brings the
juice. Dan Campbell, he bringshe brings his own little juice. He
(16:40):
brings some juice, but like,at the same time, you can feel
his passion, and I think that'swhat the guy's feed off of. More.
It's not necessarily like what he's sayingsometimes because you'll leave a team eating
Like I mean, the same waythe world was introduced to Dan Campbell about
biting kneecaps. Like, No,that was team meeting, like we you
(17:03):
you would walk in, he wouldjust show like a random video of a
guy. What what was what wasit? What was the guy doing?
He was like running from the police. Ye showed this random video had nothing
to do with anything and said, all right, O and D break it
up. So he yeah, no, But um, with all that being
(17:30):
said, with all of the randomness, this that like he really listened to
the players. Um. I feltlike he definitely tried to have relationships with
the guys. He definitely was aguy that gave the players ownership of the
team. Um in the sense thathe knew that it needed to be player
driven. So he wasn't really hewasn't going to cheer you out. He
(17:52):
wasn't gonna do this. Now,granted, I wasn't in offensive meetings and
that's an offensive guy. So Idon't know, But it wasn't about chewing
people out. It wasn't about this. It was really just about let's get
it right, you know, let'sget it right. And I think guys
started to really buy in and trustwhat he was doing and that hence the
turnaround that that the world saw fromDetroit Lions last year. Yeah, and
(18:15):
just going off that, like,um, how you feel like we're talking
about that coaching staff? How doesit feel? Because I was over there
with you, But how's it yourviewpoint on playing for coaches that also played
in the league, Like I feellike that's that's a big part of it
too, Like that's a big respect. Then you could you could what coaches
like, yeah, you kind ofhave an understanding like you've been here,
you've done it a little bit.But what's your take on that? Like
that was a coaching staff full ofcoaches that former players, all of them
(18:40):
pretty much. Um. I thinkthe coolest part about that was the level
of expectation, Right, like someguy that's never played the sport, you
know, climb the ladder one wayor another and then they just tell you,
Okay, no, this is howyou do it right and if you
don't do it like this, thenyou're wrong. Yeah, right, And
there are some things that are justnon negotiable as technique wise whatever, But
(19:03):
there are also some things where theywere like, Okay, well, how
do you feel about this? Howdo you see this? How do you
guys are the ones out there playingbecause they knew that adjustments have to be
made. It's not played on paper, you know what I mean? And
I think that was one of thecooler things. You know, Chep specifically
was my coach. Sheep was alinebacker actually played for the Lions in fifty
one, which was pretty cool.So that, yeah, that was that
(19:25):
was pretty cool. But I mean, Sheep shared the same passion that we
did, and sometimes it would getmisconstrued from the outside looking in because he's
yelling, he's cutting people out thisthat in the third but that's just his
love for the game. Same withAG. You know, like these are
guys that were really focused on peopleplaying their best ball, right right,
(19:48):
because if I'm playing my best, you're playing your best, you're playing your
best. We're all playing better ball, you know. I think that was
probably the coolest thing about it,was them just not being so like my
way or the highway. Yeah.Well, I mean I think all of
us have been on a part ofsports teams at some point in your life
where when a coach cares about theplayers genuinely, it hits a little bit
(20:11):
different. When he could relate tothe players on a personal level, it
hits a little bit different. Andthen, like you said, when they're
open to being communicated, having anopen line of communication, I guess you
would say, hey, let's getthis right because this is the this is
the goal at hand, this isthe objective, and you can work together
to get there. You're just gonnaautomout. You're just gonna play hard.
You care more about the dude, and in the pregame where he's coming around
(20:33):
giving you a little slap on thefreaking helmet, Hey, let's get after
it today. It means a littlemore from like a mentor like almost like
a like a father figure perspective versusyou know a boss who's at your employer
and you're just you know, you'rehere doing your job, like of course
you know you guys are. Inaddition, when this is how you feed
your families, this is how you'regonna make a living in your life.
(20:53):
But you know, it's still thegame of football to where it's like,
dude, like you it's a gameof emotion. Yes, definitely. I
feel like everybody plays it like ata better level when it's like that common
respect and like understanding of like wehave the same goal here, like we're
trying to get the same thing accomplished. It's not like you're my boss,
Ay do it like this? Doas I say. It's more like a
(21:15):
like we're a team here, likewe're all in this together, like coach
the player player to coach. Likethe teams I've been on, I feel
like that like the best like howwe go about things, the best relationships
within the building and stuff is likewhen it's that understanding of like, oh,
it's not just my way like youwere saying, it's not just my
way of the highway. It's like, let's figure this out together, like
what do you feel? What doI feel? Let's be on the same
(21:37):
thing because at the end of theday, we have the same goal.
We might think about it a littledifferent, goal about a little different but
we have that common understanding of ay, we got the same goal at the
end of the day, Like,I understand you're trying to get it done
to feed your family. I'm tryingto get it done to feed my family.
You're able to take it away fartherand bring the best out of each
other and the best out of everybodyin the building that way, I feel
like, Josh, who's a guyin your career so far? And like
(22:02):
you kind of mentioned it before thepod, But who's the guy who's helped
you become a pro? You've hadYou've had these challenges, you've had these
these big hills you've had to climb. Who's a guy who's like, Hey,
he took you under the wing, maybe in a dark place, maybe
whatever you want to call it,but he's got he's got you. My
first two years in Chicago, betweenRoquombi and just one of my best friends,
(22:27):
right, and that was more oflike a peer level, although he
was like way better than me andand you know in every aspect at that
point of my game. Um,but Danny T was like, bro,
let's come over to my house.Let's my first interaction with Danny T.
Camp training camp. I have asuit that I want to wear for our
(22:52):
our first preseason game, right, pregame fit, pregame fit big, pregame
fit guy big. But no,so we're in camp. I don't have
a car there, like I don'twhatever. And I had asked him.
I said, hey, Danny, like, could you take me around the
corner to this this cleaner spot Andhe just looked at me. He was
like, you want to take theBentley? Throws me the key and like
(23:15):
that was the start of just likeDanny like really just absolutely looking out for
me, like from top to bottom, like, Yo, you want to
come over, my wife's cooking,Yo, do you want to watch some
film? You want to come overand play the game? Like just literally
everything like his dogs, like Iallergic to dogs, loved his dogs.
(23:36):
But legit, I was part ofthe fact I would. I knew his
gate coat. Yeah you know whatI mean. I knew his gate coat
at the mansion. So like itwas I was there over for sure,
and he took me under his wingum and he just was he was big
bro, Like that was that wasThat was big bro. He was a
great linebacker too. He was fire. Well. I mean it's important because
(23:59):
I just feel like, you know, people forget about the human being side
of football. And even just professionalsports in general, or like your view,
everyone's viewed as assets, reliabilities, objects. Are you even helping me
win? Are you helping Mike buyingyour jersey at the shop? Like your
livelihood? But in reality, likeat that point you're early in your career.
How old are you or your earlytwenty saying yeah, so if you
(24:21):
to have somebody to be like, hey, you want to come over and
have a home cook meal, Like, but that means a lot, it
does. I mean, it's alot at our stage in life right now.
Right still appreciate what I'm saying,Still appreciate it, I think,
And I think a lot of peoplehave this viewpoint who don't get to sit
down and have conversations like human beingswith professional athletes. They don't understand it.
But like dude, they're just normaldudes, Like normal dudes drinking cork
(24:45):
perkling organic coconut water or Topo Chico, or eating at place it's like Dervo
Steli, which has a new sandwichcalled the game Changer. You all need
to try. Eating pistachios, Thankyou shout out to the American Pistachio grow
or or banking at FB bank, the premier bank of the valley, things
of that nature. But my pointis, like that, like that,
(25:07):
you see that, we'll talk aboutmanscape, Manscape, you just could bring
the juice for twenty percent off.Take care of your take care of your
stuff, boys, take care ofyou. But what I'm getting at is
the human being side. But it'sI mean, we're just chopping it up
as freaking even like those home cookmeals being a lot, and especially at
a at a vulnerable point where youdon't know what's gonna happen, if you're
(25:30):
gonna get cut or traded, oran injury happens, or even the other
side where the pressure becomes even higherof hey, maybe there's three dudes ahead
of you. What if they I'veseen it. Three dudes go down to
one practice. Guess what you're startingthis week all of a sudden, out
of nowhere, thrown in the fire. Been a part of that on game
day? Yeah, game day,got drown in the fire. Yeah about
(25:51):
it. Roquon tours Peck first quarteragainst Green Bay Packers, Week seventeen,
winning. We're in, We're in. We're at on the road, at
home, at home. When we'rein was code Soldier Field good January good.
Yeah, great game. Not forme though, Yeah, point at
(26:12):
some point Aaron Rodgers figured it out, Like my first or second drive came
back to the sideline coach just likeyeah, at third or fourth drive,
I think they figured out what theplan was. I feel like, and
I tell people this story all thetime. I'mder center. Aaron Rodgers would
just go boo boo boo, that'sour guy. We're gonna the whole time.
(26:37):
And yeah, it wasn't a greatshow, and it wasn't my best
show, and I wasn't as readyas I thought I was. But it
was good. It was humbling, right, you know, because everybody everybody
wants to play. Oh man,I'm better than him. I can go
out there, I could do this, I could do that. And it
was great that it was at theend of the year where it was one
of those things like I had thatbad taste in my mouth all off season,
(27:00):
you know, so right, soit made me go harder, It
made me work, It made memade me work to not be in that
position ever again. So yeah, that was that was my Green Bay Packers
story. Yeah, I like thatthat thrown in the fire because I've been
there myself. I've been there myselfabout your fire, my fire experience.
I got a few for you.Let's just start Detroit. I was there
(27:26):
for one. Yeah, I hada few of them in Detroit. Oh
yeah, well I was getting toplay. It was thrown in the fire
moments. You know, get weekone week won Detroit. Last year,
we're playing the Eagles. You know, we're trying to start our season off
right, trying to get it going. We're having a pretty good game with
the Eagles. I want to saygoing in there, I couldn't tell you
the score one in the half, but it was a very close game going
(27:47):
to half. Start in the thirdquarter, are starting safety? He gets
ejected. Now you could you couldprobably vouch for this when you're in a
game, and like we're all professionals, but like you go into a game
knowing the game plan, you knowwho the starters are, you know who's
getting the reps. You know whatyour job is that day. If you're
big on teams that day, ifyou're supposed to be the jammer, the
(28:11):
gun or whatever, you're the startingsafety, you know your job going into
that day. Yeah, on yourrole, you know, do it's the
best your ability, your three quartersin doing what you've been doing. All
of a sudden starting you don't evenknow exactly who's up next. There's no
set depth charter of ay, you'rethe next one in a position like that,
(28:33):
it's just that moment the coach chooses, Hey, you're up, big
Feller, Yeah, get them sunny. This is this is last year.
So the Eagles obviously, as weall know, they had a pretty good
team last year. Week one,we didn't know how good they were.
All right, they were super Bowland good enough to make to the super
Bowl. But this is week one, we all know how good the Eagles
are. It's just the beginning ofa new year. You're not good they
(28:56):
are. You know, like hewas saying, you want to play,
you swear good enough to play everythingall that. You're thrown in the fire
instantly. So they're going into redzoe. I'm thrown out there, just
middling dry safety ejective. They justhad big play. You're thrown out there.
They got momentum. My first playout there they do they go right
at me, They go right atme, my guy, we run the
(29:18):
zero blitz. I'm going on withthe tight ends zero Blitts. I slip
first play on the first blay thefield, first play, I'm getting to
play safety in Detroit, I slip. They got But it's like that's just
that's just like a little little tasteof it, like that full experience,
Like I hold myself to a highstandard. I don't feel like I put
my best foot forward, like hesaid, like it's a humbling experience,
(29:41):
like because I as ready as Icould have been, Like was I preparing
like to be that starter and playall those snaps or was I just getting
by getting through thinking I'm not gonnareally be out there this game checking boxes,
checking boxes. Yeah, no,Yeah, we talk about that.
I was checking boxes at the time, Like, right, I wasn't preparing
like you're gonna be out there likeI prepared before in life. Now you're
(30:03):
out there and everybody's depending on you, like to make the play like you're
out there like my guys are dependingon me, And I don't feel like
at all I put my best footforward. So like I feel like that
was a humbling experience to be thrownout there a week one start the season
off right there in the game, like it's it's a close game. Like,
we have a chance to beat theEagles still a week one and I
was part of that. I stillfeel like I have parts of that why
(30:23):
we didn't end up beating the Eaglespersonally. But it's like you said,
it's just it's a humbling experience tobe thrown in that fire out of nowhere,
and I got I fought that weekone up, being thrown out there
in the third quarter, played thethird fourth quarter or whatever it's safety.
Two weeks later, we're playing MinnesotaVikings, first drive starting safety blows as
(30:45):
achilles. I'm back out there, back in the fire, Justice Jeffers said,
their whole receiver cord, everybody outthere, we're going to get them.
Just back in that fire. Orhey, you're back out there,
what's up? It's you go outthere and make a play. Like I
definitely feel like I played better thatgame, but still not to the best
(31:07):
of my abilities or want to standout hold myself too. So it's just
like that being ready, Um,stay preparing, man, when you stay,
don't gotta get ready exactly. Younever know. I don't just get
by checking boxes, man, Don'tjust don't check the boxes like I did
it. You know, I likethat, I'm gonna use the checking boxes
thick for a minute here. Butyeah, you definitely don't want to check
the boxes and get by man becauseit definitely humbles you though. And like
(31:30):
he's saying, man, everybody swearsI'm pairing the next guy. I'm in
this, I'm man, I'm whatever. Man. But you get thrown in
that fire, and hey, itshows you fast, like you make a
real icon at trying to let themknow something like adversity teaches a man introduces
a man to himself. It showsyou a lot in the moments fast,
(31:52):
It shows you a lot in themoments. Man. Yes, stay ready,
so you don't gotta get ready ify'all if I can tell y'all one
thing. Yeah, so I wantto transition real quick into a Woodsie World,
Woodsye World clothing brands. Yeah, yeah, it's so uh first and
foremost get ready, right, Yeah, I'm ready because like I know you
(32:15):
you know you've heard a Virgil youknow you you know everybody thinks Kanye's this,
you know, brilliant fashion design, and nobody's seen my stuff yet,
not even myself. But I knowI'm not good. I know I'm not
good. This isn't like a Tshirt with a graphic on it. This
is like your clothing. Yeah, this is me. This is me,
Like I'm designing stuff, drawing stuffout, sketching it out, getting you
(32:37):
know, it will have contained graphicsat times, it will dis that,
but it's very different. It's gonnabe my style. But I'm just gonna
figure out a way to market it. Where Oh that's pretty cool. Yeah,
you know what I mean. Um, it's it's definitely. It's been
in the works for a while. It's in the works. I like work
on it. Then I take abreak because then I'm like, I getting
(32:58):
the pip and I'm like, no, that's not the direction I want to
I want to go here. Andum, I'm really just slow playing it.
I don't want to move too fastexactly. I wanted to be perfect
when I do it, and Ido suffer from a little bit of imposter
syndrome. I was obviously just kiddingwith y'all, like, shout out rest
in Peace, shout out the Virgil. Yeah, if you see this,
(33:20):
let me get a pair of easierto I don't know, do we cancel
YEA, yeah, I don't cancelya. But in all seriousness. Uh,
there's a bit of imposter syndrome therethat kind of like makes me want
to make it perfect. But uhyeah, so Woodsie World, it's in
the works, it's been in theworks, it'll probably continue to be in
(33:44):
the works until next year. ButI definitely suffer from a bit of imposter
syndrome in that world. Um,I don't know if you know what imposter
syndrome is, like everybody, Yeah, definitely, So it's originated in essentially,
(34:07):
I mean when I first got intothe NFL, I had imposter syndrome,
right, So like when you everget to a place and you're like,
should I really be here? Theseguys are so much like you know
what I mean, Like maybe Ijust snuck in through the back round,
right, And So the whole thingabout imposter syndrome is like it's low key
(34:28):
a lack of like self confidence, but it's really not necessarily the confidence of
yourself. It's like how big thething is in front of you or around
you that you're in, right,So, like the fashion world is huge,
right, how do I set myselfapart? Do people even think I
can dress? You know what Imean? Like just things of that nature,
like how do I make something socool that collar's gonna wear it right
(34:53):
the s courtside at the game,or you know what I mean, Like
trying to get my stuff out there. And so I'm kind of battling that
trying to figure out a way tomake it perfect marketing and all that stuff,
because like my rollout, like whenI do it, it's kind of
hit hard. And I'm a personwho only knows one hundred miles an hour,
(35:13):
So like it has to be perfect, it has to be good,
and then it has to like beable to Okay, that drop's done,
next drop, next drop, nextdrop. I'll say this from so when
I started bringing the Juice, Ithe vision was a podcast. It's kind
of turned into a brand at thispoint for sure. One thing that I
(35:37):
did, and like you see thehats, you see the logo, like
and growing up a country boy whoalso played on a college football team where
you know, I was the onlywhite boy wide receiver. My friends are
of all backgrounds, colors, racist, genders, whatever you want to call
it. Everyone wore Beast Pro Shophats. Everyone Jujo, you ever owned
(36:01):
a Bass Pro Shop hat in yourlife? I haven't. I got me
a couple of bringing the juice.I have a bass Pro Shop. Okay,
thank you. So my point isI knew off I knew people wore
Bass Pro Shop hats. I wantedto create my little goos why legally didn't
get in trouble, but I wantedit to be similar to bass Pro Shop
off of brand recognition, and thenI want to make it as close to
(36:24):
those as I possibly could, basicallysaying bring the juice instead of bass Pro
Right, So I do that alittle bit. People automatically they know they
like bass Pro so I know they'regonna like this. I get a couple
of different colors. Actually, justgot a couple of new colors. I
don't know if you saw those.Got a purple kind of yellow. It's
(36:44):
like that subconscious recomission. It's justso I got people now who'd be like,
dude, I was in an airportand I thought it was a bass
Pro Shop hat. It was bringthe Juice hat. But either way,
all I'm hearing in my eyes evenif you see a bass Pro Hop,
now you're thinking about bring the juice. At this point, you're double you're
double check in. That was areally bad double check I got scared,
(37:13):
like you're doing the old double lookthough to see is that a is that
a bring the Juice head or isthat a bast prog had? Even if
it's a beast pro Had, I'mon your mind at this point. So
between rant Free Rent Free, soyes, I have this. But as
the brands continued Bring the Juice itkind of like it was one of our
sayings on the football team. Ikind of embraced it, made it my
(37:36):
I tried to hone in on it, and then it kind of came who
I'm what I'm about? Right?I was a high energy dude and still
him but couldn't tell how would youknow this? You know? But at
the same time, the Juice boxitself, it's kind of a hard little
logo. So I got the JuiceBox logo now and I got the O
(37:59):
G I call us the G atthis point, and I got my Juice
Box logo. So between the twothey've built off each other, and like
I said, it's become a brand. Like there's dudes who I've never met
before who see their friend who I'vehad on the podcast, who wear the
hat and their ordering hats, whichhas turned into relationships. If I'm like,
hey, bro, you you knowyou're playing You're playing DV for the
(38:20):
Falcons, Like, dude, allof a sudden you yeah, I'm sorry
man. By this, I'm gontado so much. Man, I got
you know, we got margins.Yeahs I means the plant. Hey hey,
different categories, categories. I wanta time limited. What I'm saying
is my only advice and one thingthat I love about what you're doing on
(38:44):
the drops. So I don't havedrops necessarily. I did a few drops
and they hit every time. ButI I just want people rep and try
to keep it reasonably priced too. This is twenty bucks online. You ask
your mom for twenty bucks, youwork a little side job, twenty bucks.
That's reasonable to represent a branded companywhenever you want to call it.
(39:06):
You start getting in the eighty dollarrange, it's a luxury at him at
that point, which also does well. It's a different marketplace. But I
think if I could go back,I would do drops. Put it that
way. Yeah, I think you'reon the right path. Before I let
Juju ask whatever he wants to aska lot of so many notes over there.
Yeah, I love that you're atraveling man. I saw you went
(39:28):
to Italy recently, So you wentto Egypt recently. I went to Italy
from my honeymoon two weeks ago. What do you getting. Congratulations on the
NARRITI thank you, thank you.Great wedding. Yeah, I actually haven't
talked about it on the part yet. No, no, I don't.
It's the first time, first time, and I was glad to be there.
Great, great wedding, man, great wedding, beautiful day. But
(39:51):
are you just to enjoy travel?Tell me what drove these trips? So
coming off the season, I havea friend who I trained with coming out.
His name is Carlos. Shout outto Los, my boy. He
um didn't necessarily make it, youknow, on the football on the football
(40:12):
route, and he got into likehe just put his passion into just like
hustling, right, So like hehas Airbnbs, he has his own clothing
line. He has like Los hashis hand in everything, right, And
he was telling me one he wantsto get into business right with me on
you know, some Airbnb stuff. So if you're in Atlanta looking for a
(40:35):
place to stay, J and cLux rentals, you know, I got
a slide mind in there. No, just kidding, but no, in
all seriousness. Uh, I wastalking to him and you know, just
talking about you know, offseason planslike bro, Missie, when you're coming
home, blah blah blah, andhe was like, Bro, I told
him, I said, this offseasonis like we can't be just in the
(41:00):
of every week or like we gotto spend our money and see the world.
Yeah, I gotta like we needto spend our money on experiences.
I'm trying to do something. Anduh, I mean I sat and I
thought about what it was that Iwanted to see, and the two things
that popped up was the coliseum becauseGladiator has been my favorite movie since I
(41:20):
remember watching movies, well, secondto Shrek. I've already caught it.
I've already today today we've heard that. But you know, I definitely had
to go to the coliseum and pickthe sand up and ask if they were
entertained. No one responded, butit was okay. They laughed a little
bit, so I guess so um, And then I wanted to go see
(41:42):
the Pyramids and so that's that's thatwas. I mean, that was it.
Now. Granted was it a lotof flight time in that, but
it was worth it. Yea,it was one hundred percent worth it,
so I did Italy. It's funny. I was talking to my wife about
my wife about that term. Iwas talking, I've never been out of
the country like that before. I'vebeen in Mexico, being in Canada.
(42:04):
I've never gone over the pond though, And I said, I want to
go see Coulter. Seeing this,I recommend the Mafi coast Positano. Bro,
it's beautiful Capris, but in theColosseum, it's crazy. Bro.
They keep lions and they are peoplewho are fighting. Do you know they
had swim events. They're like theyhave water fountains on every level that like
(42:25):
are just natural springs from the Alps. Like it's nuts. It's it's like
what with its seven to fifty BCas before Christ still standing still. It's
the craziest thing for me. Butfood was delicious, all that stuff.
(42:45):
The buildings are so old and sobeautiful, with so much detail, and
they're still in such crazy good condition. And I'm not a traveling man.
I'm a very simple human being. But at the same time, Bro like
imaging a little bit. Well,I don't think of the type of guy
where I want to go to allthese places, and you know, you
know, my my wife likes nicething. So we gotta go into the
(43:05):
Louis Vattans. Hey, let's pumpthe brakes here. Let's get a couple
more, Let's get a couple moresponsorships. Let's go. Let's get a
few more people too. Man,there's the code on manscape. But it's
cool. But I want to seethe pyramids. That was my second thing.
I said, how did they doit? How? I'm not gonna
(43:29):
get on it here for conspiracy theories, but let me just tell y'all at
somebody who sat on the corner ofone of the pyramids. Yeah, no
human did that. Those blocks werehuge, like longer than this table,
(43:50):
bro, like this high off theground, like cranes. I know,
I know. My theory is ifhumans did do it, God hit the
reset, but he said, nah, y'all too advanced. Let's start it
over like that. Those are alwaysreset. But no chance. And then
(44:10):
they all like perfectly point Brian's belt. Yeah, yeah, me, you
got to go. But we gotto go up in the pyramid. Bro
saw the whole thing. Bro,we got just I sat on. I
sat on the pyramid, and thenI climbed up in it. It was
so cool, Bron. It wasa great trip. I think that everybody
needs to take that trip in theirlifetime. Egypt, they were the blueprint
(44:35):
for everything that's crazy. Bro,I honestly, did you go to Egypt?
Italy one trip? It's two separatethings. Yeah. I went Italy
then Hawaii for like the this NFLPA trip and then got back from Hawaifi
five days later. Well, I'mtraveling. Man. Got to squeeze him
in like you don't have it likehere for good time because you got a
(45:00):
like Charlie Horse. No, itwas those were Those were some like fire
trips. I'm probably gonna do onemore this offseason. I don't know where.
Birthdays in July, so I'll probablytry to do something first. I
start, Yeah, you know,I'm July nineteen. I know that I
(45:21):
ain't know it. July I didn'tanswer, baby. July fifteenth is the
juice boxing match. I'd love tocelebrate you there. Gosh, you come
to VIP unlimited, all you coulddrink, all you could eat, twenty
bounce out of casino. That soundsdope. Could it be twenty one me
versus jew No, toothpick no,no where. I'm sure gonna we're gonna
(45:45):
tell at one point, you know, a pay per view if we're gonna
do the whole deal is the mostyou bet. I thought you picked out
your own belt. Say then pickout the old bill. But they escaping
them all better be throwing it.Drew about to be shaved from the eyebrows.
(46:08):
I did to hear from everybody onthat. Yeah, well, Jude
before I close it up, sinceyou're my co host, anything you want
to say, Josh, anything youwant to say, Man, No,
I just appreciate my guy would comingon the show. Man. You know
this is this is my guy collegeroommate, Frank, you know, speaking
about his wife and everything. Iwas there. I was part of their
(46:29):
whole process. But she used tocome over when they first we're getting together.
We used to drink these little seltzers. He used to come come hang
out with us, and I wasthird will for a lot of their first
in the act, we played allthe drinking games, a lot of seltzers
(46:51):

the drinking games in the world.Listen, if you guys ever need a
drinking game called from energy bro.Yeah he has a million drinking games for
sure. But yeah, just youknow, shout out to you your wife,
