(00:00):
Welcome to it. Broncos Country Tonight, Benjamin all right here with you short
show obviously post Rockies edition five sixsix nine zero is the text line.
I apologize if I don't get backto you or having some send issues,
So appreciate you being along for theride. We have finally gotten here.
(00:20):
Training camp opens Friday, myself forus, the KA people will be out
there Saturday. I believe you guysare fans are out there as well.
So looking forward to catching up withyou guys out there, getting our eyes
on the Broncos and this new quarterbacksituation and everything else that's going on around
(00:41):
the Denver Broncos. Really looking forwardto getting back to football this week after
having a few months of you know, I mean, obviously we had the
draft and all that kind of stuff, but actual football. It's nice to
kind of sort of get back tothat. So looking forward to that.
A lot of a lot of rumortype stuff floating around. I want to
to start with that, specifically withJavante Williams and our good friend Troy Rank
(01:07):
could put out on his podcast thathe felt like Javante and Samaj were fighting
for the same roster spot. Italked about it. Back in I'm looking
at my tweets here may what runningback room looked like it had perhaps one
too many bodies in it. UhBlake Watson right now is a little dinged
up estimates coming back off the knee. So it's it's gonna be interesting to
(01:29):
see how this thing shakes out.The Broncos can save three million dollars by
moving on from Samaj p rihime, they save one and a half moving off
for Javonte Williams. But if youlook at how the distribution went toward the
end of last year, Javante Williamshad something like sixty seven percent of the
carries from week ten on. Samadhad several unfortunate fumble You know, Javonte
(01:56):
Wimsley had won fumble a year.Samaji had several fumbles I think three law
if I remember correctly, I'd haveto go back and look at that.
But Samaji p Ryan never really establishedhimself as anything more than a third down
pass catching type back in this offense. And so I don't feel like that
there's a real competition here because GivanteWilliams used in every down back and Samaj
(02:19):
who wears down the more you usehim because of his running style. Never
really felt I mean, I likedwhat he did, like we brought to
the table. And I'm not tryingto dog Samaji p Ryan, but there's
a financial incentive for the for Javanteto win should there be a competition between
the two for one spot. AndI've seen the headline. The headline is
better when it reads, you know, Javonte Williams in trouble. You know,
(02:42):
that's how they get you to clickon stuff and listen to stuff.
The headline reads better that way.But the reality is that all of the
financial incentives point to Samaj p Ryanneeding to take the job from Javonte to
order to stick around again the savedouble the money moving off for so much
at p Ryan, Sean Payton hastypically had three to four headed running back
(03:09):
backfields or rooms usually has one ortwo guys who can kind of run with
power, and in this particular casethat would be you know, I guess
Devanta Williams, an older estime. And then you've got a change of pace
guy who can catch the ball andbe kind of a spark, you know
(03:29):
whatever, And that's Joel's McLoughlin. And so I feel like that. You
know, you look at this,McLoughlin's not an every down guy. He's
kind of the darren Sprolls guy ifyou look for an archetype from Sean Payton,
or a guy who can get youeight to twelve touches a game and
provide a little bit of a spark. But he's not really what Sean Payton
traditionally looks for in a running back. Sean Payton hasn't had a lot of
(03:53):
bell cow backs, bell cow typebackfield distributions over the course of his coaching
career, Al Kamara being a bitof an exception, but even then,
you still he still shared the backfieldwith other people. You go back and
look at the rotations that Sean Paytonrolled out. You know, you had
Reggie Bush and Duce McCallister and MarkIngram, Pierre Thomas Latavius, Murray,
(04:17):
darren Sprolls and go on and onand these they always they sort of rotated,
And you say, you kind ofsaw like a like a forty forty
twenty split or a you know,a fifty forty ten split between the running
backs in terms of kind of havinga you know, sort of a three
headed monster with all that, andso I think that perhaps we're not focusing
(04:39):
enough on that, or the conversationhasn't focused enough on that running back room,
which will probably get heavy use dueto the fact that you've got potential
for a rookie quarterback, or reallywith any one of these quarterbacks, you're
gonna want to have a strong rungame, but especially if you have a
rookie that they can rely on.And so I see all these headlines out
(05:00):
there and I get constantly asked,Okay, you know, is Javonte Williams
in trouble? Well, I don'twant to. I wouldn't phrase it that
way. I would say he's leadingfor the job as a matter of fact.
But I think that the better wayto sort of look at it is
to say that there's probably an oddman out in this. And so what
(05:24):
makes the most sense for the DenverBroncos is it is it to keep a
samaj p Ryan around? Because ifit does, then that means that you
felt like Audric Estimay can be reliedon as a lead back, and he's
coming he's a rookie coming off ayou know, an e scope that that
doesn't seem realistic to me, doyou think that samaj p Ryan can be
(05:46):
a lead back? Well, statistically, if you go back and look,
he starts strong and then he fadesby the second or third game that in
a row, that he's a starterbecause he has a violent running style that
that sort of wears down and heseeks out contact. And that's not to
say that Chavante isn't that guy aswell, but Williams has kind of showing
a propensity for that, you know, as far as that stuff goes.
(06:06):
Now, Williams's back off that injury, that horrific injury. Last year's comeback
was miraculous, but it generally takesa while for that to completely heal and
for you to get full confidence backin it. And so I would not
be surprised to see Javonte Williams sortof have a bounce back and some Maj
p Ryan be the odd man outwhen all said and done again, I
(06:29):
keep getting asked about that. Iget asked about it on social media,
I get asked about it when I'mout at dinner. So that is my
answer. My answer is that JavonteWilliams, I would not term it as
him being in trouble. I wouldterm it as you know, there are
probably four running back spots. Fourrunning back spots, there are probably five
running backs vying for those four spots, and so somebody probably is the odd
(06:51):
man out. The question is andwho's going to take the job. And
as much as I like some majp Ryan, he's a fun story.
We've had him on the show, and it doesn't feel like the Broncos are
incentivized to cut Javonte Williams unless hejust woefully underperforms, and I haven't seen
any indication that that would be thecase. Obviously last year, coming back
(07:13):
off the injury, you can excusesome of the productivity, but you know,
end of the day, I haven'tfelt like that Javante Williams has shown
that he needs to be replaced andthat you would be comfortable going with Estime
and Samaja p Ryan when you couldgo with Estime and Javante Williams and go
from there, and honestly, youcould kind of flip flop the roles a
(07:38):
little bit there where Estime, who'sreally not much of a pass catcher,
could be an early downback. Javantecomes on in second, third down and
can catch passes and Javante's showing goodhands out of the backfield and great balance.
So you could see a role flipwhere Estimate takes on the role that
Chavante sort of had last year,Javante takes on the role this smaj A
(08:01):
Pea Ryan sort of had last year. And Julia McLoughlin comes in and is
the change of pace, you know, kind of switchblade guy that you can
move around a little bit and geta few touches and see if there's some
see if there's some spark or electricity, and see if he pops off.
So as far as these reports go, you know, my understanding of the
situation is there's you know, there'strue competition with the roster this year,
(08:24):
and those who the cream will riseto the top. Was the quote sort
of given in that regard. Idon't I don't think that Javante's in trouble,
and I wouldn't term it that way. I would term it as again,
five bodies buying for four spots andwho brings what to the table and
right now to me, that lookslike some mudj A. P. Ryan
would be uh, the odd manout. So we'll see how it goes
(08:46):
uh shifting gears a little bit overto the Baltimore Ravens. Ravens quarterback Lamar
Jackson out for the second consecutive dayof training camp. He was sent home
before Sunday's opening practice, remained outtoday and let's via the Baltimore Banner and
Jonas Schaeffer. Raven's head coach JohnHorbaugh said that his timetablefer return was unclear
(09:09):
after he fell ill on Saturday.Harpball said Jackson will return when he feels
better. He's not sick anymore.Former Bronco and former two thirds of the
League quarterback Josh Johnson is the istaking Lamar Jackson's first team reps rookie Devin
Leary and Emery Jones. Of theother quarterbacks they have on the roster,
Rashan Bateman said, you know,it's good to have Josh. He's an
(09:31):
old head around here. He's agood leader. Teaches us a lot when
it comes to the game of football, definite leads us in the right direction.
So it's good. Good to havehim there. This thin thing because
Lamar Jackson is a guy who hasgotten sick quite a bit. You go
back and look at and the injuryreport on reports from from camp and all
that kind of stuff. And he'sa guy who seems to get sick a
(09:52):
lot. So that's that's sort ofjust something to keep your eye on,
you know, maybe it's uh,maybe it's much ado about nothing, but
just something to sort of kind ofkeep your eye on as things go on.
And why is it that Lamar Jacksonseems to be more susceptible to illness?
Is it coincidence or is it somethingthat's that has something really there five
six six nine zeros text line.So the Vikings, who have dealt with
(10:18):
some tragedy already, are pretty disappointed. Wide receiver Jordan Addison, Vikings head
coach Kevin O'Connell, and GM questiUdolpho Mensa opened their press conference today and
they spent about ten minutes talking aboutthe team's response in the the to the
death of rookie corner Kyrie Jackson, who died in a car crash earlier this
(10:39):
month. He was not the driver, He was not at fault, you
know, the other vehicle had theintoxicated driver hit them. O'Connell and Adolpha
Mensa spoke about their own reactions tohearing the news and arrangements that are in
place for players in the organization. We're struggling with the loss. Police said
they believe alcohol played a role inthe crash, which killed two others,
(11:03):
and then they faced a question aboutwide receiver Jordan Addison, who was arrested
on suspicion of dui just last week. O'Connell said, we're disappointed in Jordan.
We care about these players who reallydo want to make sure we're doing
our part for the development on thefield. The other aspect of that the
off the field, the life skills, development of decision making learning, how
important it is within our culture, which we're proud of, that our players
(11:24):
understand personal responsibility and accountability. Addisonwas cited for reckless driving last year.
Neither O'Connell nor ADL Favens has saidthey have concerns about the white House's character.
He still faces his criminal charge andcould face league discipline. They said,
to let the league, you know, handle those things and work that
accordingly. But man, that's gotto be a massive I mean, we're
(11:46):
disappointed. Is about underselling it asmuch as you possibly can. You lost
a rookie in a car crash,in which alcohol was involved earlier in the
month, and you've got a playerout there drinking and driving. So I
mean, if you, if you'rethe Vikings, the message didn't get across
whatever you were using. The messagedid not make its way to where it
(12:09):
needed to make it. And you'vegot Jordan Addison out here, you know,
driving well intoxicated. It's just frustratingto me. It's frustrating to me
that anybody does that. You haveUber, you got Lyft, you got
scooters, you got light rails, you've got all kinds, You've got all
(12:31):
kinds of transportation options this day andage, and the idea that you would
drink and then drive at all blowsmy mind. There's there are no excuses
anymore. There's no reason to havean excuse. You don't have an excuse.
If you drink, don't drive.Just that simple, just just that
plaine, that simple. If youdrink, don't drive, period, end
(12:52):
of story. And I don't Ijust I guess I just don't understand how
you you how you come to that. And obviously you know earlier this month,
Kyrie Jackson, who was the Vikingsrookie corner, lost his life in
the car crash. That funeral issent for Friday. By the way,
the joint service with the former highschool teamate as Hazel and Kevin Seafford of
(13:16):
ESPN's reporting that the Vikings are goingto pay for the funeral expenses, the
Vikings announced today that his locker willgo unused this season and the team will
wear a helmet decals in his honorthroughout the year. Coach O'Connell, gm
Adolpha Menza, defensive coording to BrianFlores, others all going to be there.
Jackson At Hazel and Anthony Lytton Juniordied on July sixth when they were
(13:39):
riding at a car that was struckby another vehicle, of which police suspect
the intoxicated Kyrie played college ball atAlabama and then Oregon. Was a fourth
round pick of the Vikings back inApril, and the team are paying his
signing bonus to his estate and honoringthat as well. I just again,
if you're Jordan, I mean,my goodness, it's boneheaded. Do you
(14:01):
want to talk about a decision thatit just makes you look like an idiot?
I mean, we've got all kindsof things out here from Henry Ruggs
to whatever else. If you drink, just don't drive. Do not drive.
There is no no reason to drive. There's never going to be any
reason to drive. Staying in theNFC North, the Lions could end up
(14:22):
catching flak from Receiver. I don'tknow if you guys have watched that or
not on Netflix, but as notedrecently, Receiver series reveals that I'm on
ross. Saint Brown suffered an obliqueinjury in Week three against the Falcons.
Now he characterized the pain while runningas an eight or nine on a scale
(14:43):
one to ten. He did notappear on the injury board in advance of
a week four Thursday Night game atGreen Bay. And this is interesting because
the over under on the receiving yardis total of seventy two and a half,
the mark in sports books. Butanybody who knew that he was in
(15:05):
that much pain could have bet theunder and one since he only had fifty
six yards it didn't know might havedetermined that seventy two and a half was
tempting for the over, regardless hewas injured and the Lions didn't disclose it.
The NFL has declined comment on thematter, and that could mean that
the NFL is opted to say nothingwhile monitoring the story, but the NFL
(15:28):
might have to say something at somepoint while reviewing the matter. Presumably the
league's reviewing the matter, and ifit isn't, he should be because it's
an example of how injury report gamesmanshipcreates inside information that can easily be misappropriated
and people can use to make aquick buck. Last week was literally the
anniversary of the league adopting injury reportrequirements back in Nice one under Al who
(15:52):
was then the commissioner. The goal, of course, was to eliminate information
for gambling purposes. Here we areseventy four years later and it's still a
dynamic. So just something to keepyour eye on. I don't know what
the league is going to do anything, but you know is what it is.
(16:12):
Five six six nine zero's a textline. You guys want to get
involved the conversation. We are anews, talk and sports station. There
were some people that wanted some commentson what happened over the weekend with the
President of the United States declining toseek reelection. I don't really want to
get into that tonight. I thinkit's been covered to death. But if
(16:32):
you guys do. I will whenwe come. I do want to get
into a few other things about trainingcamp coming up this week. I want
to get into some of these positionbattles. Programming note. We got full
live shows Wednesday and Thursday, andthen a partial live show on Friday after
the first day of camp. BroncosCountry that rolls on Kiowa's Broncos Country Tonight
(17:00):
presented an official partner of the DenverBroncos. Sign up and see why everyone
is betting with Fred the Bonus King. Let's go on the official home of
the Broncos. Go all right, all night, Kowa, Welcome back to
(17:21):
it. Broncos Country Tonight Judgement allright here with you. Michael Cooper producing
five six, six nine Zeros textline. I had a couple of questions
coming in about Broncos free agents signingback with the team. Here is a
no on both these. Justin Simmons, I expected in my decision from him
in the next week or two. That'll come pretty quickly. And Mike Purcell,
(17:45):
I know he's got some interest froma couple of teams. I believe
he's gonna sign elsewhere, specifically theAFC East. Will see how that goes.
So we'll see, but I don'tthink either one of those guys are
coming back to the Broncos, specificallySimmonson and probably not Proceille as well.
(18:06):
I imagine that that deal gets donepretty quickly. Five six sixt nine zero
is a textall lin. I don'twant to take you guys's questions, if
you got any, I did tellyou during the last segment that I want
to get to some of these positionalbattles. We talked a little bit about
the rumors and reports in the runningback room, so I'll skip that one.
And as somebody pointed out that Iadmitted Blake Watson who's on the NFI
(18:30):
and Tyler Batty, I did.I think Watson was in and still is
in position to be one of thosebodies. But I think what he brings
specifically with kick returns is probably apart of where he would be. It'll
be interesting to see if Julia McLoughlingets put on kick returns as well.
Right now, tentatively they have MarvinMims and Julia McLoughlin. I suspect that
(18:55):
with kick returns we'll we'll probably seequicker running backs be involved there, whereas
Mims probably will stick with the puntreturns. I wonder if they moved Traymont
Smith over to kick returns as well. You know, anyway, it'll be
a while before we have that sorted, so it'll be interesting, interesting to
sort of see exactly how that shakesout. But I didn't forget about him.
(19:18):
I just the way this thing isshaken out. I don't think Tyler
Baty stands much of a chance withoutan injury in order to make this roster.
Based on what I've seen and withregard to reports about Javonte, I
would suspect that Samaj is the onethat is on the chopping block, and
not necessarily Javonte Williams les Samaji justtakes a job from him. So so
we'll see quarterback pretty easy. Imean, I think everybody knows this team
(19:41):
setting this thing up for Bonnicks. If he doesn't take the job, then
Jarrett Stidham he's probably the guy.Zach Wilson was languishing a distant third throughout
mini camps and OTAs and all thatstuff. Now could he close the gap,
absolutely, But as it sits rightnow, that would be the order
with Bonnicks firmly is the person thatthe Broncos want to take the job.
(20:04):
Jared Stidham has looked the best thosefar, which you know he should.
Again he's got year's experience. Theseother two guys don't with this, with
these teammates and in the system. So we'll see uh there and I think
that's what everybody will have the righthe talks about the running backs, there
is no competition to full back. It's that's Michael Burton's job to uh uh
to lose, we'll go to tightend uh. Nelsich it appears is going
(20:26):
to be uh starting the gate healthythis training camp. He'll be at a
competition with Nate Atkins, Lucas Krolland Adam Troutman. Probably going to keep
three tight ends uh. And Iwould suggest that the depth chart order to
start would have Troutman at the top, Kroll uh number two and Dulsige number
(20:48):
three. Dulta has got a lotto prove he's not this regimes guy,
and it'll be you know, it'dbe tough sled for him. First,
he's got to prove he can stayhealthy. We've seen the athletic potential,
but you gotta be you gotta beavailable. Thomas the Assiman is is technically
uh still there, but he's gotuh he's he's got an injury designation,
(21:11):
So I don't think that you haveto worry about that with wide receiver.
If Courtland Sutton does indeed stick around, and it's looking more and more like
that's probable for this year. Him, Josh Reynolds, Marvin Vims, Tim
Patrick, they make up the Bigfour. Reynolds is a guy who will
play the slot and the outside.Courtland and Tim kind of both play the
(21:33):
X Mims will play, you know, rotate with Reynolds in terms of who's
the slot guy, who's a Zyou know, that's that sort of thing.
But those are the Big four. After that, you've got uh eight
guys competing for what is probably twospots. Uh. Valet and Franklin were
both just drafted and and Valet lookedthe best through excuse me o t as
(21:59):
in mini camp thus far, frouyFranklin's got a long way to go.
I would not be surprised if hewere a healthy scratch all year, just
based on where he is, He'sgoing to need some seasoning. With the
other guys, I mean, littleJordan Humphrey is a guy who just keeps
showing up, and you know there'ssomething to be said for that. Jalen
Virgil, Brandon Johnson, those guyswere sort of fan favorites, but now
there has really broken out. BrandonJohnson has been more productive of the two
(22:21):
virtual showing flashes, but hasn't beenable to put it all together consistently.
And you had Philip Dorsett, whoobviously was there for week one last year,
and then just kind of not afterthat, David Sills. I think
a lot of people forgotten he's onthis roster. Stills, of course,
famously was the quarterback Lane Kiff andoffered at like thirteen years old, ended
(22:42):
up converting to wide receiver and that'swhere he is. And then Michael Bandy
comes over from the Chargers. That'sa lombardy guy, but he didn't really
demonstrate anything that made you think thathe was going to be a guy you
were keeping around last year. Soyou know the big four Sutton, Patrick
Reynolds, Mims, that's pretty lockedin. Then you've got Franklin Vallet and
(23:03):
maybe maybe one other receiver which isprobably little Jordan Humphrey, and then the
other guys I'm assuming go to thepractice squad for call ups on the offensive
lines started the tackles, Garrett Bulls, Mike McGlinchey, those guys are the
starters just by virtue of the amountof money owed to them. The backups
right now Matt Pert and Quinn Bailey. Bailey's been around for a minute.
(23:26):
Alex Polshowski, I think we'll geta shot at that. Frank Crumb was
undrafted. He did get drafted bythe UFL or the USFL now UFL whatever,
he did get drafted there, andso you know, if he doesn't
work out, he's got a landingspot to get some reps and then kind
of make it another run at itnext year. I think you're probably keeping
(23:47):
obviously Bowles McGlinchey, you're probably keepingtwo more tackles. So that probably means
that either Matt Pert or Alec Polshewskior Quinn Bailey, of those three,
you probably keep it two. Idon't see them keeping Demontre Jacobs and Frank
Frum hasn't shown anything yet. We'llsee as we get, you know,
get on into camp at the guardpositions. Uh Ben Powers and Quinn Miners
are obviously going to be starters againby virtue of the money. Uh,
(24:11):
the depth here's then you got threeguys depending on what happens with with the
center position and if you go Wattenburg, if not, then you met it
four. But Nick Julio who wasjust who was just drafted. Then you've
got Calvin Throckmorton and Will Sherman andnone of those guys really I think strikes
fear and everybody. You're really hopingthat powers and minors stay stay pretty healthy
(24:34):
at the center position. You've gotthree centers on the roster, and that's
Luke Wattenburg who I mentioned who couldalso play guard, Alex Forsyth, who
I'd like to see win the job. Uh, and then Sam Mustifer who
uh played for Baltimore previously. AlthoughI mean, you know, you don't
want to dog somebody, but itwasn't very good. You go back and
look at the tape. He justwasn't very good. Certainly provides veteran depth
(24:56):
at the position, but not reallyUh, some buddy that if you're counting
on long term, that's that's probablynot the direction that you're going. Looking
at the defensive side of the ball, you know, the defensive line,
(25:17):
there's a healthy dose of bodies nowyou sort of you sort of think that
with the system that the Broncos run, you'll keep six guys, uh,
they can be labeled ends and thosetackles Zach Allen, d J. Jones,
Jhonathan Franklin Myers, those those threeare set in stone. After that,
you've got Malcolm Roach, Angelo Blacksonand Matt henningson. Those guys probably
(25:38):
probably are the guy unless they gethurt. And then the last four guys
that you're carrying on the roster atthose positions right now, Jordan Jackson said
some flashes in camp last year washe's got a tough road because you've got
Elijah Garcia as well. I thinkthose two would be the favorites. And
then you've got Jordan Miller and BrandonMatterson who added undrafted, and I don't
(26:03):
think either one of those Those guysare at best probably practice squad unless there's
injuries or they suddenly ball out.The edge rush position suddenly has a ton
of depth. Who emerges from thatas starters sort of remains to be seen.
Baron Browning, John Cooper, NickBonito and Jonah Ellis who is just
(26:26):
drafted are the big four there. But then after that you got Ronnie Perkins
and Thomas InCom, two guys thatmade you've kept around for multiple years and
they sort of have found a wayto stick around. Can they get on
the field and make an impact.I don't think too many of the other
guys that they brought in really standmuch of a chance. Jaylen, Allen
(26:51):
Drell and Chammi and and DeAndre Tillmanexcuse me, Andrea Tilman. Tillman being
the guy from the UFL that thatthey paid it the omen's probably a practice
squad candidate. I don't think theothers really are. And then Drew Sanders,
who kind of fits in that althoughhe's on the pup fits both inside
and out, you know, kindof see where he winds up with inside
(27:12):
backer. You're probably keeping four maybefive. Alex Singleton obviously because of the
money, Cody Barton again the money, Jonas Griffith, who they really like
and have had big plans for buthasn't stayed healthy. And then you've got
Drew Sanders, justin sternad Andre Smithas well as Lavell Bailey. And that's
four names vying for one maybe twospots. Andre Smith came over from Atlanta
(27:36):
where he was pretty good. Starnadhas stuck around through several training camps despite
injuries. Sanders has been hurt andisn't it not realized his potential? Lavell
Bailey an undrafted guy who you knowhas a chance. But you got that's
tight competition. You have four guysfor for one or two spots. That's
that's pretty tight competition. And you'llnotice we keep saying that we've got several
(27:57):
guys for a few spots. Ithasn't aways been that way. I would
say that that's probably something that ifyou're a Broncos fan, you're you're pretty
excited about the fact that you've gotmultiple guys fighting for spot. And while
nobody wants to see somebody cut, what you're really suggesting here is that the
talent level of the roster has gottenbetter to the point where you've got several
(28:18):
guys fighting over fewer spots. Anytimeyou've got that, you've you've got a
better roster, uh you know, and that that's sort of in the end,
what you're looking for on on thecorner front, Uh, you know,
Patsar Tannag Jawuan McMillan are gonna bethe uh you know, the starter
in the slot. McMillan may geta chance on the outside of CEB two,
(28:40):
but definitely the starting slot. AndNickel then comes sort of the question
marks Riley Moss to Murray Mathis twoguys that have been drafted back to back
years. We haven't really seen enoughof yet. Mathis, you know,
(29:00):
start as slow, then got hotthat in his second year just looked lost.
And we'll see Levi Wallace right nowis Pennsylvan is the other starter opposite
Sir Tam Moss, mathis Abrams Drain. It was just drafted. It's probably
more of a bigger slot guy.But we'll see un Smith the roster more
(29:21):
for special team's ability and probably sticksbecause of that. And then you've got
Rhys Taylor and Tanner McAllister. Idon't think either one of those guys are
in a lot of danger of makingthe roster. Art Green Quinton Newsome,
I'm not sure any of those guysreally are Art Green. They last year
(29:44):
thought it might be something, butI just haven't seen anything thus far.
We'll see if they make the jumphere in your two I would say Green
probably out of all those guys, has the best shot but you're probably keeping
six corners all said and done, which means Wallace or Tam McMillan for sure,
Riley Moss, Abrams Rain and thenprobably tomorrow Mathis and then maybe the
seventh guy's Tremont Smith is the specialteams guy, and then you know the
(30:07):
rest of these all of a suddenbecome practice squads. So we'll kind of
see the safety positioned. H DelaraTurnery, Yell and Cadence Stearns are both
on the pup, so that's gonnaopen up some spots. You probably keeping
four safeties, maybe five because youknow, Vance Joseph likes to run a
heavy Nike a little bit more whereyou've got three safeties on the field,
so you may keep five. UhPJ Locke and and Brandon Jones will be
(30:33):
the starters right now. Stearns wouldhave had a role, but again you're
on the pop. D Laren Turnery, you know, Steve Atwater says he's
got a little something to his game. So it's you know, frustrating that
both those guys are on the pupand we'll see, you know, kind
of kind of where they go.Another guy. I think the fans are
(30:56):
interested in his jail skinner, thebig body safety out of uh, out
of boys. You know. GeorgePeyton made it a point to mention him
when we were at the combine thatyou know that that he's sort of impressed.
They've sort of forgotten about a dueto injury. He gets out of
the field, gets a chance basedtackles, and then all of a sudden,
they you know, they get theyget sort of impressed again. Devon
Key somebody that they they've kind oflooked at, but to me feels like
(31:21):
a practice squad guy. And you'vegot Omar Brown and Kedrian Smith as well,
and those guys are practice squad guysor camp bodies. Will uh,
we'll see. On the special teamsfront, Mitchell Ferboni is the only long
snapper currently even rostered, so nocompetition there. Uh. Will Lutz Kicker
same same deal, uh, Andhe started slow but got a lot better
(31:42):
as uh as the season went along. On the puntering front, you got
two punters, Riley Dixon and TrentonGill. Dixon obviously with the inside track
and the money that seems to tomake sense. But we'll see if Trenton
Gill can take it from him andthen we you know, we talked a
little bit earlier about returners right nowmore than Mims the scheduled to start at
both, but I suspect he'll onlybe a punt guy by the end of
(32:08):
the season, whereas kick return willprobably be somebody like Julia McLoughlin, Tremont
Smith, Blake Watson, those kindof guys. They did try an interesting
uh, Devon Valet back there atpart return and it's a big body pot
returner. You know, we're talking. I was talking about Dave Logan the
other day about you know, beinga pot returner and he was one in
college and he was one of thebiggest part returners ever and had return touchdowns.
(32:30):
So you know, that's that's kindof interesting. I think too,
you know, to have a biggerbody back there as a as a return
man like that, if you canget it in long stride, you know,
then you can, uh, thenyou can make an impact five six
sixty nine there. Let me knowwhat you think, who you guys are
most looking at? Who when trainingcamp rolls around, If somebody you've got
(32:50):
your eyeballs on, I think everybody'skind of got the quarterback thing that they're
uh that they're looking at. Butyeah, I'm looking at some of these
other things. I mean, thereceiver room's pretty crowded, the running back
room looks interesting, and then who'sgonna win that job, you know,
at center on the defensive side ofthe ball. Again, I think that
there are some some interesting things happening. So I don't think that this is
(33:15):
all a quarterback training camp, althoughcertainly a lot of fans will we'll be
looking at that. I don't knowif you guys saw the Bucks, the
Tampa Bay Bucks. Baker Mayfield wasout at the American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament
and he was talking about how he'sin the best shape of his life.
He found his routine, found agym, found some trainers, and his
(33:37):
you know, honestly committed himself toget his body right where he said,
he's coming in a little bit sloppy, you know. I said, I'll
tell you what. I spent aboutfive days in Lake Tao with the golf
tournament, which you know, Iunbelieve is going up the elevations, the
mountains, no humidity, and comingback down to Tampa. It's tough to
get used to. But I feelgood. I feel good with the conditioning
and all that, and that it'sabout making sure you hydrate the heat and
(33:58):
prep in the right way. Mayfield, his wife Emily had a baby girl
back on April ninth, but he'sdoing his best to avoid dad bod and
said that off season conditioning is somebest shape he's ever been in, you
know, talking about you Ottle Chunkyand all that kind of stuff. So
it'd be interesting to see if,if you know, Baker can continue to
(34:19):
build on what he put together lastyear. The Bucks believe he can do
it, you know. Obviously Davecan Alys has moved on now the head
coach of the Panthers, but leamCohen in there is a pretty good oc
and so I'm fascinating to see whatTampa does. And shout out to former
Buck Shack Barrett for retiring for theNFL. Former Buck, former Bronco retired
(34:39):
from the NFL after nine seasons tospend more time with his family. Signed
with Miami, but just didn't haveanymore, So shout out to to Shaq
Barrett. He listened to Broncos Countrytonight right here on KOA. It's a
