Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to it Broncos Country Tonight, Benjamin Olbright here with you.
(00:04):
This show is obviously post debate edition five six six
nine zero is the text line. It's a lot of
Broncos news to to get into with you guys. Thanks
to the Sporty Pickle last night, who had myself Nick
Ferguson out there as well as Ki Sports guys. We
understand that on the podcast editions some of the audio
(00:26):
was a little bit difficult to hear, so well, we'll
look into that for the next time that we're at
Tip and Sporty Pickles a great place, man, you guys
gotta get down there. It's it's new, it's clean, it's fun.
They got pickleball courts in there, all kinds of stuff.
Was really good food too, Like you know, you know
how you you go to a place and you're like, well,
it's bar, how's the food. It's good. They got good food.
I had some jalapeno pepperoni pizza that was absolutely delicious,
(00:51):
demolished it. I know, Ryan had some kind of vegan
pizza thing that he liked. It was good times all around.
Even had their dessert. The waitress recommended these little cheesecake
cup bites or whatever. They were delicious to blueberry cheesecake
cup bites. So yeah, get on out of sporty pickle guys.
You guys gon gonna really enjoy that we're doing that.
(01:12):
I think Monday nights this year's was the Sam's number
three on Thursday nights. So we'll see you know, we'll
see you guys dinner. Broncos news over the last couple
of days right now, the Steelers are preparing. There was
some reporting out there earlier that Justin Fields been named
the starter for the Steelers this weekend. That is not accurate.
(01:35):
They are preparing as though he's going to be the
starter and seeing how Russ is throughout the week. But
and he may be the starter. Fields may wind up
being the starter, but as it sits right now, that's
not officially been named the starter, So there may not
be a Russell Wilson revenge game this week as as
it was billed. But Justin Fields, I think if you're
(01:58):
the Broncos, you'd rather play Justin Fields. He's clearly the
worst quarterback. So while he does have a little bit
more athleticism, his passing was terrible and his passing was terrible,
and that that win that they had over the Falcons.
If the Falcons could have done anything on offense, they
would have won that game. But hobbled Kirk Cousins and
that Pittsburgh defense made life rough for them. Fields did
(02:20):
not lead the team to a touchdown at all. And
you know many many field goals, part of which had
to do with the defense turning them over. But the
Pittsburgh game suddenly becomes a winnable game for the never
Broncos if Justin Fields is playing. So I think we
all saw last year. Broncos pretty easily bested him as well,
though he tried to come back late. I have been
(02:43):
back over the Seahawks tape and we're gonna want to
throw that one away. It was. It was bad. It
was brutally bad. It was worse on rewatch as you
see bo Nix basically slow to process the field right
(03:06):
right there from the initial turnover after the interception by
Alex Singleton, you get down to that third and two
play and they've got a First of all, you should
have just run the ball, but they decided to run
a boot play ex boot It's a three level boot
and Nick's had Javante wide open with the ability to
put it right on him and get the yards, and
instead continued to boot out string to play along, try
(03:28):
to look deeper to the end zone and ultimately threw
it into coverage and it was knocked away. Nobody else
was open. You've got to recognize when something's opened that
early and take it, especially in a third and what
I believe it was two situation there. And as you
watch the tape, which you can if you get the
NFL Plus package, you can you can do all that. Now,
(03:49):
if you watch the tape on that it's it's really unflattering.
You see a quarterback that just isn't seeing it quick enough.
The game is too fast for him right now. Now,
that doesn't mean that it won't slow down, and the
only way to get it to slow down is to
get out there and getting reps. But I will say
that concerns that I had going into that game, uh,
pretty much manifested themselves across the board. And I think
(04:13):
I think everybody can sort of see what I was
worried about. Now while I was getting lambasted by fans
and other medias and I didn't know what it was
talking about. Well, there you go. Now we all know
who's on the right side of history. Again, I don't
I didn't want to say I told you so. I
didn't want to be right on that, but you know,
I mean you could see it out there. You could
see it in practice. You could see him throwing the
(04:34):
ball behind people, and if you look at the old
twenty two man, almost all those throws were behind uh receivers.
So he's got he's got some stuff to clean up.
That's not to say that Bonnix can't clean it up.
Not trying to hate on him, not trying to hate
on the kid. I you know, I've seen him progress
quite a bit from where he was in the first
couple of practices just to now. But it's important to
be honest about what we're seeing out there, and what
(04:54):
I was seeing out there was not what was being
reflected in those two preseason games where the Broncos had
all their starters, one against guys that didn't even make
the Packers or Colts teams. So take from that what
you will. I hope the Broncos are able to win
on Sunday. It will certainly be an easier game if
if Justin Fields is out there at the quarterback position,
but very tough defense. Different style of defense the defense
(05:18):
that the the Seahawks play, you know, kind of camps
in that zone. The Steelers are are coming at you.
They're coming after you. They don't sit back and zone.
One of the things that I noticed on tape that
that needs to be addressed. Luke Wattenberg was having problems.
He was having issues. A lot of the pressure was
was getting there up the middle. I hope that that
(05:40):
is not a problem that continues throughout the season. Well,
we'll see, you know how. They addressed that this week.
But Luke Wattenberg at the center position right now has
not looked like it's where it needs to be for
the Denver Broncos. And and so we'll have that that's
gonna bear some watching as we move forward. The Disney
(06:03):
and direct TV fight, I don't know if you guys
have seen this or not, is getting political. Literally. Variety
dot Com says the Disney offer to provide DirecTV customers
with access to ABC news coverage of the debate that
went on tonight, and DirecTV declined. The quote from DirecTV
(06:24):
was unfortunately returning only Disney's ABC station from the entire
portfolio channel for a limited three hour window will cause
customer confusion among those who would briefly see the debate
only to lose the channel again shortly thereafter. I disagree
with that, and there are some laws in play here
that I think DirecTV would do well to readvise themselves of.
But DirecTV counter by requesting a return of old Disney
content to direct through the end of next week's Monday
(06:47):
night football game between the Falcons and Eagles. Disney refused
returning to the Disney owned channels for the next week
while we worked to reach into agreement would benefit customers
who would regain access to ABC for the debate and
the Emmy Awards which are this day, as well as
their favorite college of professional football games. Direct TV said
ABC is hosting the bait, but other networks will broadcast it,
(07:07):
so it's not as if DirecTV customers will be frozen
out of seeing it. But you know, they had to
tune into CNN to do it instead of or you know,
any of the other stations that broadcast it instead of
directly on ABC. So the ratings there, you know, the
interesting to see how that how that sort of shakes
out when we get the overnights, Direct TV customers will
(07:29):
be frozen out of seeing next week's Monday night game
since it's only on ESPN. With the exception of folks
in Atlanta and Philadelphia, who will have access to over
the air broadcast of the content, no Direct TV customer
will even see the game, so that will only cause
more Direct TV customers to switch to a different service.
It's far easier than it used to be to sign
up for streaming platforms that provide ESPN. I'm not saying
(07:54):
that anybody should necessarily dump the DirecTV to do that,
but it is a no brainer for people who have
DirecTV I want to watch Monday night football that you
can just sign up for a one week free trial
with Fubo or YouTube tv whatever and then see if
you like that more. I've been using streaming for a
long time. I got rid of the dish and cable
a long time ago. So you know, you guys said
that those are choices you have to make and your
(08:15):
your consumption of all these things. But that's right with that.
Broncos worked out some receivers today. Interestingly, former Jets second
round pick Denzel Mims was among the receivers that the
Broncos worked out Caden Davis, who was with the Broncos
during the summer of twenty twenty two, as well as
(08:38):
Leon Johnson and Lance McCutcheon. Most of these guys kind
of sort of feel like special teams practice squad type
type guys. But interesting that the Broncos brought in so
many receivers and different types. You know. Mims is a
is a long striter, is a tall long strider. Caaden
Davis is more of a more of a burner, you know,
(08:59):
type with punt returnability. So just just kind of fascinating.
The Broncos felt the need to try out some receivers
today and kind of see see where that was at.
So we'll we'll see how that plays out if any
of them get signed. None of them were signed today
according to the Wire, but certainly fascinating to look at
(09:22):
what the Broncos are trying to do with bringing in players.
The Broncos also announced a Paint the Town Orange initiative
that went out today and what they are trying to
do paint the city orange, sorry, not the town. They
are getting free car stencils, an empower field from Lot
(09:46):
C and lots z through. Oh you can do that
on Thursday from six thirty to ten am. The event,
which is presented by Autowash, will help kickoff celebrations for
the regular season home opener on Sunday. Fans will also
receive a free orange Broncos head chalk stencil on their
(10:07):
back car window. The Broncos cheerleaders and miles of mascot
will be in attendance and interacting with drivers. They get
their their helping stencil vehicles passing out complementaryd license plate
covers for the first four hundred drivers that come through,
so you get a Broncos license plate cover. And I
believe there's going to be some free car wash stuff,
(10:28):
but all guests will have an opportunity to win a
pair of tickets to the game down there if you
go down there, and yeah, if you're driving a Ford vehicle,
Ford will be distributing free Broncos towels to passengers, So
if you go down there in a Ford vehicle, you
get a Broncos towel. And then Autowash is also going
to give all drivers that come by a free car
(10:51):
wash coupon, So lots of cool free stuff if you
go down there and do they do the the the
paint the city or event. That's Thursday this Thursday from
six thirty am to ten am, and that is down
at empower Field at my mile High and lots C
and lots of Z through Oh, so you should see
(11:15):
the lines if you go down there. But if you
go down in power Field at Mile High this Thursday,
six thirty to ten, you get the car stencil, you
get the free car wash coupon chance to win tickets.
You could see Miles mascot, the cheerleaders, and then of
course there's also if you're driving and license plate covers,
and then if you're driving a Ford, there's also you know,
Ford is providing those towels Broncos towels as well. So
(11:39):
if you ever wanted any of that stuff, that's down there,
and you guys can can get down there and get
that stuff as well. We do have the game coming
up on Sunday, obviously right here on KOA Broncos taking
on the Pittsburgh Steelers, the home opener. There's optimism seems
to be a little down after last game. It's it's
(12:03):
interesting to me because I was worried about the overhype
going into the season on Bo Nicks, and now it
feels to me like the pendulum has swung too for
the other direction. You know, there are enough fans that
are like, hey, we need patients. It takes a while
develop and listeners of this show are usually pretty pretty
intelligent know that. But we also have a lot of
this guy stinks fans and the all they're doomed we're
(12:27):
going to be back in line front of the quarterback
next year, that kind of thing, and you know, I
don't know, maybe we are, but right now it's not
the time to leap to those conclusions. This is Bonix's
year either way, and we're going to see what he's
able to do. My concerns thus far were more about
the play calling, where it looked like Sean Payton just
had no answers for what Michael McDonald was thrown at
(12:49):
him and continued to want to throw the ball into
the teeth of a coverage designed to make you throw
it short and miss. You know, Michael McDonald's defense traditionally
been susceptible of the run, and you know, we saw
a little bit in the first half where they were
able to do that. Part of that. I will say,
and Gavonte Williams talked about that yesterday. The field was new,
(13:09):
it was slick, and I don't think that they had
deep enough cleats the Broncos. We certainly saw issues like
that with Saquon and Philadelphia up there dinner in Brazil.
But I do believe, and again Javonte talked about this
a little bit, that we saw some of that in Seattle.
The Broncos. The field they have out there should be fine,
(13:32):
should not be slick, should not be an issue. And
I do believe that in order to win, they're going
to have to be somewhat of a run heavy football team.
You got to get Javonte Williams more than eight carries.
You just do you know, Javante, Jalil Alder guest may
all got all got some run in that game. Estimate
if he would have wouldn't have fumbled, I think would
have been a little bit more heavily involved in that game.
(13:55):
But your your your third out efficiency was was was
five of eight and a lot of those conversions came
late when the game was more or less. I don't
want to say it was completely decided, but it was
getting close and Seattle was playing more of a prevent style.
That was when the Broncos marched down the field and
get that touchdown on the Botox rush. You know, the
(14:17):
Broncos had too many penalties. You had eight penalties for
sixty yards. That's that's obscenely too many. Now, one of
those penalties was deliberate in the delay of game when
they were trying to fake them out with the field
goal thing. You threw two picks. That's that's unacceptable Broncos. Actually,
I don't think people realize this. They won the time
of possession in that game. How you do that when
(14:38):
you had eight punts and seven to three and outs?
You know, I don't know, but the Broncos actually won
the time of possession in that game. You've got to
find a way if you're able to do that with that,
you've got to find a way to be better with
that and get some conversions. And you've got to find
you got to find a way to get your quarterback,
you know, in a rhythm early but taking what they'll
give you instead of you know, whatever it was that
(14:59):
this this game plan was and I don't really know
how to describe it because it just it looked disjointed.
It looked it looked like they had no idea what
defense was going to be thrown at them, when you
could go watch the last two years of Baltimore tape
and know exactly what they were going to do, and
they did basically the same thing. So it wasn't like
he was throwing new wrinkles out there. I I, you know,
(15:21):
it's just there's a frustration that I have when you
see a team banging its head against the wall and
the coach doesn't change things up. You know, I get it.
You you feel like you've got a point to prove.
You think you were smarter than everybody with drafting botex. Okay, fine,
but that turkey ain't ready to pull out of the
oven yet, clearly, so put it back in. Serve the
(15:46):
guests some mashed potatoes, you know, get them some, Get
them some cranberry sauce or something, because the turkey hadn't
done it's got it's got to bake a little longer.
So for me, it was frustrating watching that and watching
them not put him in the best situation possible, Not
putting your line in the best situation possible by running
it downhill. If you didn't have confidence at Javante put
(16:07):
out your guest to me out there a little more.
If you didn't have confidence in him, go with Julil.
You don't have confidence to him, Blake Watson, if you
don't have confidence in all four of them, what are
you doing with that as your running back room? Why'd
you cut some I JP Ryan? Then? So, for me,
that's where my frustration lies with you know, with that game.
It's not My frustrations aren't necessarily on the performance of BONICKX.
(16:27):
Although he was not good. He was bad. It was
flat out bad. But my frustrations aren't there. It's a
rookie in his first start on the road one of
the loudest stadiums. My frustrations are with a seasoned NFL
play caller and head coach who, despite recognizing what was
happening on the field, failed to adjust to put his
quarterback in the in the best situation possible. You guys,
(16:47):
listen to Broncos Country Tonight right here on KOA. It's
a fifty am ninety four one am News Talk Sports.
Welcome back to it, Broncos Country Tonight. Benjamin O'Brien here
with you post debate show. Once again, Sorry about the
audio quality yesterday while we were out there at Sporty Picola,
and the live audio quality apparently was fine, but the
(17:09):
replay audio on the podcast was not, so we're working
to correct that as we go forward. Just wanted you
guys to know that we know and we are working
on it to get that squared away five six six
nine zeros text line had an interesting game last night
between the San Francisco forty nine Ers and the New
York Jets. I thought, with Christian McCaffrey out that the
(17:33):
Jets would have a lot better shot than they did.
We saw Nate Hackett running a Nate Hackett offense, and
by that I mean one that doesn't score very much. Meanwhile,
the San Francisco forty nine Ers looked like an unstoppable
juggernaut without ostensibly their best player and Christian McCaffrey. And
for all the money that the Niners have spent on
(17:54):
key veteran players, they've got two of the best bargains
in the NFL right now. Quarterback Brock Party makes on
only one point one million dollars in the third year
of his seventh round rookie deal, and running back Jordan Mason,
who was undrafted in twenty twenty two will make even
less than that his base salary of nine hundred and
eighty five thousand dollars this year. He earned every penny
last night with twenty eight carries for one hundred and
(18:14):
forty seven yards and a touchdown. Back in June, Christian
McCaffrey got a new deal that pushed his new money
average to nineteen million and essentially guaranteed his pay through
twenty twenty five. And that's sort of the irony, I
guess of a Shanahan coach team. Everybody knows Mike more
than twenty years ago proved there are plenty of guys
who can move the chains in his system. Kyle's doing
(18:36):
the same thing in San Francisco until he traded for
McCaffrey during the twenty twenty two season. And while McCaffrey's
paid off, especially you know, in twenty twenty three, he
was the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year helped fuel
the Super Bowl run, Mason's performance shows that running back
continues to be a position in which a lot of
money can be saved. Draft a guy, sign him undrafted,
(18:56):
as Mason was, develop him, use him when he's ready whatever.
But with Mason and line for a restrictive free agency
in twenty twenty five, the Niners could keep him at
an affordable rate then, and then, you know, after next season,
make a longer term decision regarding whether to keep Mason
or McCaffrey or both and give him. McCaffrey would be
turning thirty and due to make another twelve million. That
probably makes that decision a little bit easier. Maybe by
(19:18):
then they'll have another secret weapon they'll be ready to
unleash the same way they did with Jordan Mason last night.
But we'll have to see. I of course, was a
little frustrated having taken Christian mccafrey number one overall in
our fantasy league, and Mason was notified Friday night that
he was going to be the guy. There are some
(19:38):
gamblers out there who are a little upset with the
forty nine ers and not perhaps accurately reporting their injury
report and letting wagers know on that kind of stuff.
And if the NFL continues to seek out sports wagering money,
they'll need to crack down on teams that are doing that,
because I will tell you you know, wagers get frustrated
(19:59):
now don't think we should always cater to and in
the interest of full disclosure, I think everyone here knows that,
I wager, but if you're going to accept money from that,
then you do have to cater to your business partners
there if you're doing things that alienate their customer base.
The Buccaneers have some concerns about their secondary heading into
Week two, and obviously the Bucks will be on the
(20:21):
Broncos schedule here very very shortly after the Steelers, they
re signed corner Keen and Isaac to add depth at
the position after starting quarterback Zion McCullum and reserve Josh
Hayes left Sunday's game along with Bryce Hall. Hall went
on the injured reserve with an ankle injury that required
an air cast before he was carted off the field.
Isaac will take Hall's roster spot. The Bucks are also
going to be playing this week without all Pro safety
(20:43):
Antoine Winfield, who has a foot and ankle sprain, and
he'll be out for a few weeks, missing the Broncos
game as well. Isaac initially joined the Bucks and undrafted
free agent out of Alabama State back in twenty twenty
three and started the season on the practice squad, so
action two games before being elevated on game day. He
was signed the active roster a week twelve, didn't see
action before returning to the practice squad. Isaac went to
(21:07):
training camp with the Bucks this summer. It appeared in
all three preseason games, got three tackles at a pick.
He was waived and the roster cut out of fifty
three acclaimed by the Panthers, and then Carolina waved him
on Saturday. The Arizona Cardinals, this one was interesting. Drew
petsingh was their offensive coordinator, suggests they've got to get
Marvin Harrison Junior to the ball. He didn't really get
(21:28):
him the ball as often as perhaps they would have liked.
In Week one, wide receiver Marvis Harrison Junior came into
the league with people hailing him as a camp miss prospect.
Cardinals clearly felt that way because they used the fourth
overall pick on him. Harrison was missing for much of
Sunday's opener against the Bills. However, he was targeted with
three passes, catching only one for three yards, and although
he appeared open near the end zone on to play,
(21:50):
Kyler Murray through elsewhere to the end of the thirty
four to twenty eight loss. On Today, offensive coordinator Drew
Petsing said the plan is to get the ball at
Harrison's hands more often. Quote certainly he is on the
forefront of our minds in terms of getting him the ball.
Petsing said that via the team's website, I think the
Bills did some things to take him away, and I
certainly could have called some players to get him more
involved early. But if it was a good start, we
(22:11):
got some work to do. Petsing added that is not
Murray's job to get certain people of the ball or
worry about how a guy is doing the flow of
the game. He said that he has to do that
with the way he calls the game, and sounds like
Harrison's going to be a bigger part of the team's approach.
The Cardinals play the Rams in week two Monday Night's game.
(22:32):
I did want to get into this because the NFL
outlowed the hip drop tackle, and Monday Night's game between
the Jets and Niners included a clear example of the
illegal maneuver. Early in the third quarter, Jets corner Michael
Carter was bringing down forty nine Ers receiver Juwan Jennings
indeed exactly what is now prohibited. The rule in the
(22:55):
rule book says it is a foul if a player
uses the following technique to bring a run to the ground.
One grabs the run with both hands or wraps the
runner with both arms, and two unweighs himself by swiveling
and dropping his hips or lower body, landing on trapping
the runner's legs out or below the knee. A tackle
which happened out in the open no other players around,
was not flagged and was first pointed out by Eli
(23:19):
Manning during the Manning cast. During the game broadcast, Joe
Buck mentioned the rule as four elements and said that
it was pretty close. Source with knowledge of the league's
assessment of the play did say it was a violation.
The NFL is instructed officials to throw the flag only
when the foul is clear and obvious. But if that
one wasn't clear and obvious, that was spotted by literally
(23:39):
everybody is, then I don't know what isn't. Then that
should sort of be the concern. If you set a
high bar for calling a foul and then you don't
use expedite a review to clean it up the calls
will be wildly inconsistent, and then in key moments of
the game out comes the flag and ongo the tinfoil hats,
and once again we're back to talking about your partners
in the sports betting industry that you decided to accept
(24:01):
revenue streams from and alienating a client base. The Dolphins'
injury report has remained in the same today as it
was estimated yesterday, not good news for the running back
position for head coach Mike McDaniel. Running Backs devine Ah Chang,
who has an ankle injury, and Raheem Moster, chest did
not participate. Wide receiver Maleak Washington, has a quad issue,
(24:25):
was also a non participant. Neither a Change nor Moster
left the game with their injuries, but the Dolphins did
give Jeff Wilson Junior five rushing attempts in the fourth quarter.
A Chang got four Monster two. Ahang played thirty seven
snaps Monster thirty one in the victory over the Jags.
Offensive lineman Liam Eichenberg, linebacker Jalen Phillips corner Jalen Ramsey,
(24:46):
who has a hamstring, were also limited. Linebacker David Long
was a full participant. The Dolphins play on Thursday night.
In sad or somewhat distressing news, I guess Peterson, who
earned more than one hundred million dollars during his fifteen
year NFL career, now faces a debt in excess of
(25:08):
twelve million, and he has been ordered to turn over
his assets to pay for it. Via Brent schrut'in' boar
of USA today, a Houston judge has ordered Peterson on
Monday to surrender property to satisfy the debt. Constables had
been ordered to seize assets from Peterson's home. A court
appointed receiver has accused Peterson of playing a shell game
(25:29):
in order to avoid payment. The situation traces to a
five point two million dollar loan from twenty sixteen. It
became an eight point three million dollar judgment in twenty
twenty one, along with fifteen thousand dollars in attorney's fees
and a nine percent interest rate. As of February of
this year, the approximate debt was twelve and a half
(25:51):
million dollars. Peterson spent ten years with the Vikings, played
for the Saints, Cardinals, Commanders, Lions, Titans, and Seahawks after
the years and last played in twenty twenty one is
probably a Hall of Fame lock on his first eligibility
in two and twenty seven. I don't understand how you
(26:12):
led a debt of five point two million balloon to
twelve and a half million. I mean, your debt now
has become a penalty judgment of three point one million
in an additional what are we looking at here? Four
point two million in interest? The original loan was five
point two million. Adrian Peterson is now going to pay
(26:33):
four point two million in interest on that loan due
to the judgment. That's speaking of judgment. That's just poor
judgment on his part. Bill's quarterbacks Josh Allen. It's Trubisky
full participants in today's practice. The Bills estimated them on Monday,
when the Bills didn't actually practice. Bills are playing the
aforementioned Dolphins on Thursday Night Football. Allan injured his left
(26:57):
hand in the team's victory over the Cardinals on Sunday,
but the medical staff has cleared him to practice and play.
Trubisky injured his knee in the preseason, but served as
Josh Allen's back up last week. The rest of the
Bill's report has pretty much remained the same corner Taran
Johnson is a fore arm issue. Defensive end Wings Smoot
at a tow issue. They did not practice. Running back
Ty Johnson is a knee. Defensive end Jevon Solomon obleek
(27:18):
or limited tight end Quinn Marris his shoulder issue as
a full participant. The Bills have ruled out Taran Johnson
and Cam Lewis will replace him on Thursday. Smoot is
also expected to miss the game. The Carolina Panthers and
defensive coordinator at Gero Rivero have placed Derek Brown on
the injured reserve. Panthers placed defensive tackle Derek Brown on
(27:40):
the reserve, the team announced today. Brown suffered a knee
injury during the season opening loss to the Saints, as
timeline for return is currently unclear, although he could be
out for the rest of the year. Head coach Dave
Canalis said during his news conference on Monday that Brown
is seeking a second opinion before deciding whether or not
to have surgery. Canalys noted that Brown's absence will create
(28:01):
big shoes to fill first round pick back in twenty twenty.
Brown acord to one hundred three tackles last year, registering seven
tackles for a lost fifteen quarterbacks. Hit also had an
interception and six passes defensed. The Panthers have two spots
available and signed Lonnie Johnson and former Bronco Mike Boone
to the fifty three man roster off the team's practice squad.
(28:24):
Boone signing was reported earlier in the day. However, head
scratching it may be, giving the amount of running backs
Carolina certainly has on the roster right now. The detainment
of Dolphin's receiver Tyreek Hill resulted in a pair of citations,
both of which are posted publicly now, one for a
(28:45):
seat belt violation and the other four careless driving. The
careless driving citation includes details to support the allegation, quoting
a high rate of speed the visit visual estimation to
be sixty miles per hour. The citation asserts no seat belt,
high traffic of pedestrians and vehicles. It's unclear whether any
(29:09):
video for police or bystander supports that conclusion. It was
the initial justification for even pulling him over. He was
spotted without a seat belt, and the officer approached the vehicle.
Hill wasn't as cooperative as he probably should have been. However,
the officers grossly overreacted, pivoting at some point to securing
his cooperation to affirmatively punishing him for not cooperating, also
(29:31):
handcuffing and saying that they were placing Kalais Campbell under arrest,
although they later walked that back. That situation we talked
about quite a bit last night on here on BCT,
and to me, the video is a terrible look for
law enforcement. I mean, Tyreek Hill did need to be
(29:51):
a little bit more cooperative, but there's nothing that he
does that rises to the level of the response that
he got from law enforcement, specifically the second officer in
that traffic stop. That was always talking with Nick about
last night. It's always the second guy, right, It's always
the second guy to get flagged on the field. It's
always the second guy. So don't be the second guy.
That's that's that's our new slogan around here. To a
(30:15):
tack of Aloa says, the narrative is we can't beat
the Bills until we do something about it. Dolphins quarterback
to a tack of Alwa's started eight games against the Bills.
The Dolphins are one and seven in those eight games,
and Twa knows he needs to do something about it.
Dolphins are hosting the Bills on Thursday night. Well Ois
said today that he understands that people will doubt the
Dolphins could beat the Bills. Tell the proof they can quote.
(30:40):
That's gonna be what's written out there. Until we do
something about that, that's gonna be the narrative. We can't
beat the Bills until we do beat them and beat
them consistently. Now that's gonna change. We have an opportunity
to do that this year. We have an opportunity to
do that this Thursday. Dolphins are two and a half
point favorites on Thursday night, as they're also the betting
favorites to win the AFC East Thursday night would be
a good night for talk well I would approve he
(31:01):
can beat the Bills, and he knows that. The narrative
is if he doesn't, and frankly will continue to be
the Panthers. I talked about this a minute ago. The
rostering Mike Boone Joe person of the Athletic reported this morning. Boone,
(31:21):
who's twenty nine, was elevated off the practice squad for
the lost in Orleans. He did have four carries for
seven yards, playing five offensive snaps. He also played nineteen
special team snaps. He's appeared in sixty seven games of
two starts to the Vikings, Broncos, Texans Panthers career. Rushed
for five hundred and forty six yards four touchdowns, caught
(31:42):
twenty five passes for audred eighty six. It's often forgot
about that he was here in Denver and kind of
the excitement that went with that before. You know that
didn't work. But this is this is fascinating to me
for a lot of reasons. I don't I mean, I'm
(32:04):
guessing that this is a special team's move because it
doesn't seem to make a lot of sense given the
fact that that they've got plenty of running backs Chewba Hubbard,
Miles Sanders and Raheem Blackshear are already on the roster.
Jonathan Brooks, who would have probably been the starter, is
(32:27):
on the non football injured reserve, and we'll be back
in a couple of weeks. So to me, the screams
that it's got to be some sort of special teams move,
just because it does not make any sense to roster
and carry, especially for this team who's gonna be throwing
the ball and catching up a lot to roster and
carry five running backs like they will have to do.
(32:50):
So we'll see. It was not a good day for
Bryce Young against that Saints defense. Wasn't a good day
for the Panthers overall against that defense. Their defense didn't
look very good either, lost their best player in Derek Brown,
and wound up surrendering over forty points to the New
Orleans Saints and their revamped offense run by Clint Kubiak.
(33:13):
So Kyle Shanahan said that I said it today that
part of the reason running back Christian McCaffrey sat out
last night's game against the Jets was because it was
the first week of the regular season. McCaffrey was inactive
for the game after saying last week that he had
no doubt that his calf and achilles would be feeling
well enough for him to play. Shanahan said after to win,
(33:35):
McCaffrey was dealing with a little too much to get
on the field. I thought it was going to be
smart to keep him out. Today on the conference call,
Shanahan said, we have multiple reporters that the decision would
have been different for a playoff game and that McCaffrey
would have been active in that case. Shanahan also said
mccafrey's dealing with Achilles tendonitis and that can be a
(33:56):
bigger issue at times than some of the other things
that they've talked about with him. Shanahan called McCaffrey day
to day, so another game time call after a questionable
listing could be in the cards for him against Minnesota
this week. So if you're like me and you have
Christian McCaffrey on your fantasy team, approach with caution this
(34:16):
weekend as well. Despite Kyle Shanahan saying he would have
been good to go last night, I was. It was
a moment of frustration because I was playing that dastardly
Ryan Edwards this week and that was my last player.
I needed him to win, and unfortunately did not get
(34:36):
the chance to do that. So Ryan takes fantasy game
one of the season. But you know we'll have a
late surge later on this year. Is Nebroncos Country Tonight
