Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well them do it Broncos Country tonight.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
But with all Brian, Nick Ferguson, Grant Smith from the
Sporty Pickle Bar and Grill. We definitely love coming down here.
This is always great. Get some burgers earlier. Nick, good
to see you again. It is a victory Monday. Looking
forward to chopping this one up. I've been out of
the box a little under the weather for for the
last couple of days. So you guys holding it down,
you bk hold it down for me last week, but
(00:23):
we've got a lot to get to today.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Yeah, it is a victory Monday, having had one of
those around here in a while, so it is great
to celebrate that here. It's forty pickle. Will you start
off by saying that you already You've already eaten already.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
I've already eaten already. I like it.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Now I'm going to do second dinner because I'm a
secret fat yet, but we'll make that happen. Five six
six nine yearls of Texa line. You guess want get
involved the conversation right off the top. We had some breaking
news right there at the end. Charlie Blackman, I was
going to retire fourteen years with the Colorado Rocky He's
going to retire the end of the season. So if
you want to see Charlie Blackman one time, you still
got I think two series left to get out there
and watch them out a Corse Field before he hangs
(01:00):
him up.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
Well, you know what, Course Field is one of the
better ballparks in the MLB, and for Charlie Blackman to
decide to hang him up, I mean that is kind of.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
An experience within itself.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
When you're right, then if you have him been to
a game this season, you definitely want to make sure
you try to get out there for filwell for Charlie Blackman.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
Which now.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
As I'm thinking about it, Ben, when we look at
guys when they retired, we always look back on their
careers and there's.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Always a comparison.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
But for me, as far as Charlie Blackman is concerned,
do you think he has one of those careers where
when we talk about baseball, we talk about Charlie Blackman,
not just what he did for the Colorado Rockies, but
just how his career stacks up with other people who
played his position.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
I mean, I think so. I don't think he a
Hall of Famer, per se uh. You know, in terms
of the numbers, I think he's definitely a Ring of
famer as it were, you know here here for the
Colorado Rockies. But I don't know about a Hall of
Fame type career.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
I think it's uh, I.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Think it's just a little bit under that, just a
shade under that. I think what he's done has been
underappreciated because he's languished out here in Colorado. I certainly
have a lot of respect for him for sticking through
at times what was a very bad team, uh, and
just continuing his career with the Colorado Rockies because he
was a Colorado Rocky rather.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
Than you know, just changing the money.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
You know how it is, you get to the end
of the career, especially in baseball, you know, you get
to get to that where you get to guarantee contracts
and you just chasing the money.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
And he's stuck it out with Colorado.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
Do you think that that's kind of hurt his perception
around the league because he was here with the Colorado Rockis. Yeah,
he's going to go in there Ring of Fame, but
when you look at what he might have been able
to accomplish, Yeah, I mean, you know, He probably could
have won rings somewhere else.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
He probably could have been a key contributor, you know,
somewhere else doing those kinds of things, and instead chose
to stick with the Colorado Rockies and be the guy,
be the face of the franchise, even though that the
team was admired, and you know, and turn over and rebuild,
and you had some other guys I think that were
partial faces in the franchise at times, obviously Nolan Aernatto,
(03:16):
you know, at times Towardsoowitski maybe you know a little
bit of times, Cargo when he was here, maybe a
little bit of times. But the reality is Charlie Blackman stuck,
stuck through it all, and he didn't demand a trade,
you know, and and then all that kind of stuff.
He tried to stick it out and be veteran leadership.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
And I respect that. I definitely respect that.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
But at the same time, like when you retire, players
often look back, as though I look back in my career,
but there's certain things you can't get back. There's no delay,
there's no time machine. So when Charlie finally retires, I'm
sure he's going to settle down somewhere maybe sometime at
he's hunting and put his feet up and start reflecting
(03:53):
on his career. And I wonder if he's going to
have that conversation with himself and say, you know what,
I was the guy for the Rockies. Like you said,
he stuck it out, he stayed here, he didn't ask
to be traded. But will he have some time a
reflection where he said that he wished that he did.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
I mean, I imagine so I you know, I wouldn't know.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
I mean you you know, you retired from footballs every
time where you wished you had done things anything different?
Speaker 1 (04:19):
Yeah, oh yeah, I mean I think.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
We think it's natural to reflect on life and then
wish you'd done certain things differently. But I think at
the end of the day, he also has something to
hang his hat on, you know, and then he'll never
have to buy a beer in this town.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
Okay, okay, maybe won't have to buy a beer in
this town.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Colorado Rockies fans are not gonna like me for this.
I don't care.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
But when you look at the talent that Charlie black
Men has, you put that talent on some of the
other teams, right Arizona Diamondbacks who came out of nowhere.
Last year they were at the bottom, like the Colorado Rockies,
but look what they were able to do to climb
out of the depths.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
Of hell to actually win a championship. Yeah, so that
is something for me as a player to know.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
Ben, none of us in life get get a do over, right,
we don't get a chance to do.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
You can't put the toothpaste back in the time. The
two pace does not go toothpick to get it.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
But would you have to think if you are Charlie Blackman,
there there must be some part of him looking back
at his career. He's happy with what he did, but
there is a part of him that's still a little incomplete.
Because every player that plays professional sports they want to
win a championship and the Rockies have never been able
to put him in that position. So when you started
(05:35):
to talk about him about guys at his position, what
he's done, Yes, he's done that as far as statistical
being amongst the Colorado Rockies players over history, But in
comparison to MLB in his own right, it's like no,
it's like it's like the Rockies failed him.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
Cole hardly agree with you on that they did. I mean,
they did not put enough talent around him for them
to be able to win. And he's a guy who's
stuck it out through those kinds of promises and then
they you know, they.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
Ultimately failed on that.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
So hats off to them, though I hope he enjoys retirement,
finds something rewarding in this second exeitler to how you
have found it rewarding to sit here next to me?
Speaker 1 (06:17):
Five textually got a big show for you guys tonight.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Roby Bean's gonna join usottom of the next hour talk
about the uh they see you Buffs and and Broncos.
We had a we had a good weekend for Broncos football,
as bad as the previous weekend was.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
We had a good weekend for.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Denver, you know, for football the Denver area. You know
this this past weekend, I you know, see you with
the last second comeback there against Baylor. I mean, I
certainly am never storming a field after beating Baylor.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
But besides that, it.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Was a don't be Debbie Downer and a Debbie Dounter
and sounds like that's what you are.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
I'm going to be a Debbie Downer. You don't you
don't storm the field after beating a two and two team. Well, well,
first of all, the idea of the.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Significance, that's what it is, the significance of what the
game meant.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
I mean, what was the significance you beat it? Two
and two teams?
Speaker 3 (07:03):
They were returned, the Buffs were favored to win. Where
the Buffs were returning to the Big twelve And it's
been a while open twelve game opened a Big twelve game.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
And then I understand why the students did it. Is
the level of excitement.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
When was the last time the student's up at Boulder
Folsom Field actually stormed the field? Just think about that,
I have one, Yeah, exactly, it's been that long. So
to watch the team go down and come back and
a magical fashion.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
I mean, Disney could have written a better script for.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
The last seconds of that game, right hit the body
dropped and then go for the lowest of lows to
the highest of the highest.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
And I get all that, I certainly get the energy
and all that. I just I don't know there's for me.
Storming the field is reserved for breaking incredibly lengthy streaks,
or for winning a championship, or are making it championship
if there's been a long time that kind of stuff.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
So I don't know, think the first Big twelve victory
and it's been a while Baylor, though, I don't care.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
Baylor's not good.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
What about how they did it the hell Mary play
and the play before that it was dropped.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
I mean, I'm at screaming in the stands about the
helmets or in the bars.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
I was, you know, scam.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
I'm absolutely screaming, you know, for that. But I'm not
I'm not storming the field for beating Baylor.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
I don't care. If you did it the last second,
it's still Baylor better than that. I'm glad. I'm glad
you were not storming the field.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
The students did and it was expected and guess what,
it was homecoming?
Speaker 1 (08:26):
It was homecoming.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
Yes, then all these things that you want to check
the box, uh, you do that, and then it's a
nationally televised game.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
You want the country.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
No, you don't want the country to see that we
stormed the field for Baylor.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
That's embarrassing. You just ran yo yo yo, Debbie Downer
type attitudes. So you should be like the Broncos storm
in the field for beating the Bears last year. Whoa
to be totally no, wait, wait a minute. You didn't
even let me explain.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
I'm not saying that the Broncos should have stormed the field,
but you saw the adulation on the on the faces
of the players as they were going out, how happy
they were that game.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
I'm happy, Yes, they're happy. We're all happy. We don't
need a storm. But but everyone celebrates entirely different.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
We know that you you know, you wear your dog shirts,
you sit, you sit with a nice damn down and
you know you don't take you know, any pride in that,
and you don't take any same pride in fact.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
I have so much dignity. I'm not storming the field
and for beating Baylor. Hey, hey, be like, this would
be like storming the field if you're beating Vanderbilt. You
know what's not it is? Okay, No, it's not like
Vanderbilt is.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
When you look at the SEC they've never been the
tops of the tops, even with Jay Cuttons there. Remember
remember storm in the field for that game. Yes, I'm
with you, that's utterly ridiculous. Spot going back to the
Big twelve, coming back in the fashion that you do it,
You did it and it's homecoming.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
Yes, celebrate. I'm for celebrating for the game, I forgetting.
You're never gonna convince me on that one.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
I it's me's storming the fields reserve for like big
time stuff, you know, And that's big time for them.
I' you can't be big time for you though. It
can't be big time.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
Too for you to beat mediocre pro Listen at the
last second, rewind and.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
Let's think about what we're talking about. We're talking about
the team that came in with a lot of hype
last season with coach Fryan.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
They went four and eight. Right, Even with that, people.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
Were still talking about them in the offseason. Well, you know,
Paul Finebaum looked at him and said, you know what, Sid,
but he was still talking about it.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
But you're right, they can't be irrelevant if you're talking
about it exactly.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
So, now you go into that game and the team
hadn't you know, beaten the big twelve team in years. Right,
that's the first game and you got to play what
was on the schedule, and it was a hell of
a game. You said to yourself, wherever you were on
Saturday night, you were jumping.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
Up to just as much as anyone else.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
So that is your version. That is your version of
storming the field.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
I didn't rush the bar and then it reached over
grab a bottle of kettle one off. I'm about the timing.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
Probably you didn't wait, you know what, Probably you didn't
reach for a kettle one because it was probably just what.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
Are you saying? I'm short? I'm sure, king, is this
what we're doing?
Speaker 3 (11:03):
Now?
Speaker 1 (11:03):
You five to ten? Cool? That's why how told were
five to eleven? Hey? That means I'm talking to you.
I'll get out of here. Five six, six nine zero. Man,
we're sitting here. It's funny.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
I used to uh, I used to room with these
guys and there's four of us living at this house
or whatever.
Speaker 4 (11:20):
You know.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
I'm five ten and that's the average height for a
man five fantasy the average national height for.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
A man in the United States.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
All these guys one was six seven, one was six,
four was six three, So I was by far the
shortest guy there, and they started calling me short.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
Pan.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
I'm like, five times made me so mad. I get furious.
The average height for a man, and they're like, that's
precious boy.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
You could you could have.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
Tried to do something where maybe you can have them
stretch you out.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
As right hanging upside down, where to get the decompression
out of my.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
Spine, or go out and put some lifts in your shoes.
I can't do that. I'm way too proud. Do you mean?
Way too proud? I'm way too proud.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
Wait, I've been around you, so don't tell me you
way too proud.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Yeah, just me either, like the me, you don't.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
I'm unapologetically me, just five six six nine zeros. The
text line pick show tonight. Obviously we said Roby being
good a Joys bottle the next hour. I do want
to get into this Broncos game though, What a great
what a great game for Broncos fans. You got Mike
mcglici out. You're up against the two and zero Bucks.
Nobody gave you a chance, as some idiot on the
KWA prediction thing had the Bucks winning twenty six to ten.
(12:21):
I'm not gonna mention any particular Benjamin all rights, but
you look at you look, you look at that game,
and it was they did it right. They're playing with Temple.
They quit the personnel shufflings right off the bat. They
were attacking aggressively early instead of late when they had
to There were flaws in that game plan, but the
early on stuff, it looked pretty good coming out the
gate and they got ahead of the Bucks and that
(12:42):
was that.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
Well. The one thing that was different than what we've
seen in any of the game is the fact that
the Broncos took the first opening drive down and score
and the team hasn't done that in some time. And
when you were able to do that then on the roll,
it sets a certain level confidence. And when you were out,
I was talking to BK and I told him, I say,
(13:04):
if there was a game out of this first four quarter,
this first quarter, these four games that the Broncos could win,
it was against Tampa Bay because the week before when
they played the Detroit Lions, when you look at the numbers,
they were two for ten on third down and they
were sat five times for thirty nine yards and known
as though they had a bevy of injuries, offensive line
(13:27):
problems and Twine Winfield Junior was and in the secondary.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
So I say, this is the.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
Game that the Broncos can actually steal to get that
momentum as they go to head into Metlife's Stadium to
play another revenge game against the Thaniel Hackett in Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
I'm a little worried about that one.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
So I don't want to focus on that yet because
I think we're gonna get TROUNL.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
So we're gonna talk about that one. Were talking about
that later this week. I want to live in the
vibes right now. I want to live in I want
to live in the vibes of the win right now.
You know it was it was. It was good. Bo
didn't look in the game, didn't look too fast for him.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
Now, to be fair, the Buccaneers, I don't want to
take anything away from Bonix, but the Buccaneers were missing
what for of their best defensive players. And if you
want to know what that looks like for the Broncos,
go back and watch the Miami game from last year.
They couldn't get any internal pressure. Vidavea was out there.
They did not get a single pressure.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
From on edge. Are not at all reguard to guard,
got nothing.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
The only pressures they really got off the edge were
blown protection at me. Bulls blew that protection and he
took off of that big run. When we started calling Bovic, well.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
Here's the one thing that we've been talking about on
this show, and I'm glad that we've seen somewhat of
a subtle change is in the rotation of the personnel groups, right,
and how that slows down the momentum and it just
kind of takes the edge off and the confidence level
and the chemistry forward the players on the field.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
We saw a little changes as far as backets are.
But also Ben, I don't know if you notice.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
We remember we were talking about how the Broncos offense
was somewhat stagnant.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
There was one of those teams in the league, and.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
I think you got the stat as far as the
number of plays that the Broncos had run up until
Sunday's game where they didn't have pre snap.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
Motion, right, they were second worse than the League women.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
There was a Marvin mem signing even though he didn't
get the ball, he was even the signing. And it
was Detroy Franklin signing as well. So we saw pre
snap motion in the Broncos game.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
Right, right, And I was like, WHOA, I like it.
I like it. What else is this new devil ran? Yes,
what else are we going to see?
Speaker 3 (15:25):
But also when you look at the evolution of bo Nicks.
What I'm liking is he is now looking more like
himself like we saw when he was at Oregon.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
Because when you look.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
At Sean Payton's offense, usually you don't have a mobile,
you don't look at it as being an offense set
for a mobile quarterback. But I don't know if they'll
call these plays by themselves or Bo was saying, look,
pocket's breaking down. I'm gonna use my guy giving a
billy and make plays. And I'm glad that he did,
but I will point out this Bohans.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
I believe more than one hundred.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
Yards rushing on the ground, But when you look at
where he's having success is to the right side, more
to more than the left right.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
And and that's you know, there are a lot of
stuff and we've got a lot of time to get
into this uh today, but on a cursionory bird's eye
view before we get the break, I, you know, looking
at this thing, I I liked what I saw. I
felt like that Sean Payton had looked at everything and
had heard what everybody was saying. Hey, look man, these
personnel groupings, they're they're causing you get out the huddle
A you're getting at the huddle with eleven seconds left,
(16:29):
worst time in the NFL. You're you're you have the
second worst motion going on here. You're running these compressed
sets where your quarterback can't figure out what the blitz
is coming from because everything's in so tight. There was
just so much, so much that was going on there
that he took that to heart and went back to, Okay,
this is what's best for my quarterback, even if it's
not what I'm most comfortable doing. And you saw them
get a win out of it. Now, Uh, you got
a tough task coming up with the Jets. You're staying
(16:50):
at the green Byer all week. You know, that's a
conversation conversationally for a different time. You know, you're staying
out there on the on the east coast, the state state,
you know, with with the with the biological clock and
all that.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
And I get it. And this one probably means something
to Sean Payty too.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
I would suggest that, you know, after you called Nate
Hackett the worst coach ever to coach in the NFL
and then he beat you with Zach Wilson, I would
say that this coming game probably needs.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
A little stuff to Sean Paper.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
Absolutely, definitely means something, and this is kind of like
the slate of games that's the revenge tour. We've already
seen the game again with Russell Wilson, he didn't play
in Pittsburgh. Then now you get the Jets game. Then
later on in the season you played the Saints again. Right,
So it's kind of a revenge tour. But yeah, these
(17:40):
games mean a lot for these players, and I'm sure
they do because when I played here, we all knew
about the story about how Al Davis didn't pay Mike
Shanahan his money, and we knew every time we played
the Raiders we wanted to go in and get a
little get back. It wasn't going to give because Mike
Shenahan his six figures, but it was a little something
(18:00):
to sticking a crawl of Al Davis.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
So I'm sure the players.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
Are going to be well prepared for the game on
Sunday against the New York Jets, and we will.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
Be well prepared to break down this game from nuts
to bolts when we come back.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
Broncos Country Tonight live from the Sporty Pickle.
Speaker 2 (18:15):
We got a break here on Katy FM New sportscre
He took off for that.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
Big run when we started going to Bovic forty seven
yard line. Nicks in the shotgun, rolling to his right,
both stops, he steps out of pressure. Nick's elusive and
he's still on his feet.
Speaker 5 (18:31):
Forty five to forty Here goes the rookie inside the
thirty five to the thirty, gets up and signals first down.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
Welcome back to it, Broncos Country tonight. Benjamin Albright, Nick Ferguson,
Grant Smith.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
Here with you live from the Sporty Pickle, half mile
north east four seventy on Peoria.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
Guys would have come on out this football season. We're
on the road Monday's Thursdays. We're entering listeners to win
a signed Patzer tan helmet. I gotta sign you out
the wives jersey one koe listener will win both at
the end of the season from Kawa.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
So today come on out Sporty Pickle and gets your
chance to enter.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
You know I, I.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
Affectionately said bo Vic instead of O Nicks after that run.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
You say that on purpose. I know why you did that.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
By the way, themar Hamlin picked off Trevor Lawrens picked
six his first career picked six, and Tomar Hamlet. It's
funny because it was a great feel good story, comeback story.
He didn't score, Okay, all right, look like he scored
he uh he' he picked it off.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
He almost scored there.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
And it was one of those situations where what a
great story it is that he came back from that
red brutal injury, uh, you know, against the Bengals, and
that that was a good enough story. But now he's
a starter and he's playing well up there in Buffalo,
and I figure, you know, for somebody like yourself who
started in the trenches in the special teams world and
worked his way up to starter, that's gotta well, that's
(19:48):
that's gotta.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
Resonate with you as well.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
Well, I'm glad that you so eloquently said of trenches.
Uh well, let's call it what it what it really
is is getting it out of the mud. And here's
what Hamlin's story says in so many different ways, because
they had so many different layers. It doesn't make a
difference where you or how you come into the league,
(20:11):
is what you do when you get there. And obviously
he went through something, the health scare. I mean it terrified,
I mean the hell out of me and I'm not
even playing now, but I can only imagine.
Speaker 1 (20:24):
What he went through his teammates went through.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
But just to push through that adversity to get to
this point, to now go from being inactive to being
active to now being an intricate part of the Buffalo
Bills defense and making plays the way that he made tonight.
Speaker 1 (20:42):
That's very important.
Speaker 3 (20:44):
So that's to be a message not just for individuals
aspiring to be the starting safety or quarterback on their
varsity team, individuals trying to get into college and trying
to live that life as a player, get some of
that nil money. But if you are a person struggling
right now and it just looks like your life is
(21:05):
going in the row direction, just got to look at
what DeMar Hamlin went through and how things have changed
around for him.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
Then I don't know.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
If you are very religious, man, I am, And the
first thing I look at when I look at Hamlin's
situation and then that's.
Speaker 1 (21:23):
God doing his work. And every day Hamlin.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
Wakes up in the morning, I know he is thankful
for being the live and being able to go out
there and play football. So it's a blessing and it's
a blessing for me to watch him play.
Speaker 2 (21:34):
Yeah, I just think it's a fun, you know, story
across the board because it had the potential for tragedy
and it's turned into something. It's far, far greater. Five
six six nine zero is the text line. Broncos countries
and I continue to roll on here. Some interesting interesting
thought from Adam Schefter today of ESPN as he floated
the idea that I had floated last week after two
(21:54):
went down, and that was that the Dolphins should call
the Broncos on Zach Wilson. Zach does have familiarity in
the scheme before he was with Michael Floor with the
Jets originally.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
He does know that terminology.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
Anyway, you see what I'm doing. You guys can't say
you can't see the dick shaking my head and here's
Zach Wilson.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
Would you want to go take over right now for
Miamy Dolphins team?
Speaker 3 (22:17):
It's can I mean, look, listen, on the surface, it
looks bright because you said, look, I can go down
there with Mike McDaniel and I could do all these
fantastic things. But once again, is that kind of.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
Uh but your rental?
Speaker 2 (22:33):
Yeah, because they got all the money tied up in
Tua when now you don't know if he's coming back
or not.
Speaker 1 (22:37):
But if you if you look at this situation, is
that what's best for Zach Wilson. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
The Broncos, I'm sure would let him go for a
fourth that's a two round upgrade on the pick they
spent on him.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
Well, well it works.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
It would work out for the Broncos because there'd be
some conversation for them. They have Jarris Den, who's a
veteran guy who vote Nicks beat out at the same time.
But if you're Zach, you're trying to find peace why
and peace of mind is.
Speaker 1 (23:01):
So important and whatever it is that you do going
down to Miami.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
Would it definitely give him an opportunity to throw the
ball to jaylah Wado and Tyreek Hill? Absolutely? But is
it the best fit for him? That's what he's got
to think about. It gives him an opportunity to go
from the backseat to the passenger to the driver's seat.
But do you want to drive that particular car? Is
(23:25):
that the best thing for you?
Speaker 1 (23:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (23:26):
You know, I look around the parking lot at the
iHeart Building and I'm like, no, no, no else, Ki,
I'll stay on the passenger seat on that one.
Speaker 1 (23:33):
Not gonna get caught dead in that one.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
But no, it's I mean, you're right, and that is
the thing you have to You have to not every situation,
just a chance to be a starter is the best
situation for you.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
To jump out and be a starter, right?
Speaker 2 (23:46):
You got to kind of consider that Zach Wilson is
the last year of a deal. So if Miami did
trade for him and they're renting you for half a
year and then making a decision and they don't have
to you know, it worked out for Gino, but it
doesn't work out for everybody.
Speaker 1 (23:58):
No, it doesn't.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
And in these situations as a player, how much say
do you actually have none at all? Because if the
Broncos field, they get that phone call and whatever is
coming from the Dolphins is enticing to them far as
twenty twenty five and beyond, they're gonna move you, right,
They're gonna move you and say, man, Zach, thanks for
(24:21):
everything that you've given us.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
But for me and others may look at this situation
differently because they say, well, this is an opportunity for.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Zach to really prove himself, and yeah, it does, but
for how long? And someone argue, O, he's not having
an opportunity here in Denver, Who's to say that he doesn't?
Speaker 1 (24:42):
Right, Who's to say that he doesn't sign back here?
Speaker 3 (24:45):
Maybe signed a two year deal, but he's more comfortable
with being here in this offense because that's the thing
that's most important been and this is where quarterbacks succeed
and fell based.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
On offensive scheme.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
Like we talked about Geno Smith, why is he now
thrive with the Seattle Seahawks Because all the other places
he's gone before reaching Seattle did not did it right?
Speaker 1 (25:07):
Right?
Speaker 2 (25:08):
And that's I think finding that fit is the best thing.
If you look at it from a Zach Wilson situation,
you have to determine if that's that's your future. You know,
if you think if you think that the tool is
not coming back, that might be a little bit different.
But if you have any inkling the tool is coming back,
I don't think you can take that job of Zach
Wilson because you've become a half year rental and you're
gonna get kicked to the curb again.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
And everyone wants to find a hole.
Speaker 3 (25:32):
Look, man, I know what it's like to be fired,
cut whatever you want to want to call it.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
But when you find a home and you find your.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
Group, right, I mean once again, it's a peace of
mind for you.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
And your family. And don't forget, like Zach got married.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
I believe either this off season or something like that
for me, you want your wife to have some peace
of mind.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
And I said it earlier before the season started.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
The best place for Zach maybe they might be being
a backup quarterback in this offense because now he's got
a group of coaches and support staff that truly believe
in him because they traded for him, even though they
didn't give him a fall or for him, but they
saw something in him to.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
Bring him in.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
Yeah, And I think that's I think that's that's the thing,
is that they're invested in turning him around. All the
Denver Broncos had been invested in Zach Wilson. It was
weird because when the Jets drafted Zach Wilson, and obviously
that plan did not work out. Their nap of course,
tragically passed away in that accident. Uh And they didn't
have anybody that developed a quarterback before and so that
that whole setup in scenario just didn't didn't take off
(26:37):
on the right foot, and it never felt like the
New York Jets were invested in Zach Wilson.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
It didn't. It didn't feel like they're invested in Sam Arnold.
It didn't feel like they're invested in Zach Wilson. It
does feel like they're investing.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
Aaron Rodgers now, but it did not feel that way
with with those two, at least to the to the
point where it should have been in terms of where
you're drafting guys that high you're drafted goes two quarterbacks
in the top five, the level of investment you should
have in building an offense around them.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
They just did not feel like they were doing Nix
again in the shotgun.
Speaker 4 (27:09):
They haven't run it yet.
Speaker 1 (27:10):
They won't run it here.
Speaker 5 (27:11):
Nicks looks for Renolds, Reynolds is there, mexicantchos at the fifteen,
and the Broncos with another big play Zion McCullum beaten
on the play, but Rentals knocked down at the Tampa
Bay eleven. That is a gain of thirty one Knicks
on the fade route to Renolds and a great.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
Throw five six, six, nine zeros In text Nimber live
from the Sporty Pickle located a half mile north of
the E four to seventy on Peoria. Guys had been
out here, You need to come out here. It's a
Bar's got pickleball courts. They've got several pickleball courts back there.
We just sort of see those going on back there.
They got the games on TV, both of them going
on right now. You get the Commanders, the Bengals, You
got the Bills and the Jags.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
All the Bills are put the beat down on the
Jags right now. No surprise.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
They've got great food. I've already sampled some of that,
much to Nick's chagrin. Nick, maybe a little jealous over here.
Look like a little jealousy. Look that I'd already consumed some
food I got. They got great drinks too, the drinks,
drinks specials, great drinks, all kinds of stuff.
Speaker 1 (28:06):
We'll get on down here. Sporty Pickle Bar.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
And Grill right here, a half mile north of four
seventy on Peoria.
Speaker 1 (28:14):
And right now, the the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 2 (28:17):
You're Alma mater, as it were, putting the beat down
on the Jacksonville Jacks.
Speaker 1 (28:23):
It's twenty seven three. It's not even a halftime yet.
Speaker 3 (28:27):
Yeah, this is a very I guess, unexpected outcome. And
it's kind of been that kind of week Week three
in the NFL. Like even though we don't like the
Raiders around here, who saw that would come the Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
Maybe Dalton's the only quarterback in the league with three
hundred yards and three touchdowns this year.
Speaker 3 (28:51):
Wow, Andrew wk Dalton. I didn't see that one coming
at all. I didn't see the Giants beating Cleveland. I
didn't see San Francisco losing injury play ram team.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
I wanted to get to that tonight too. How great
was that Xavier Smith's story? The kid did return to
the punt there at the end under guy, guy who
couldn't even get into cause he's writing letters to college,
finally winds up in Florida Atlantic first time he touches
the ball in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
He brips one off there for.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
Your team to come back and beat the San Francisco
forty nine or what a story.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
But you know what, for me, Ben.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
That's what professional sports is all about, because not everyone
gets to the show the way that we've seen other
players being drafted in the first round.
Speaker 1 (29:40):
Some guys gotta go the loan route. I mean, I
know about going that long route.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
But to see a guy put in so much work
and to be rewarded because what were the odds that
he was going to one fill the punt but then
make a game changing play to put the Rams in
position for the game winning Bill go knowing as though
the Rams of the home team, but they're more San
(30:06):
Francisco forty nine Ers fans. They're in the Sofi Stadium, man,
So a great story for that kid.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
Great story.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Yeah, it was, uh and what a what a what
an implosion by the night Ers yesterday? You know, want
an implosed They had that game won, They had it, Yeah,
they But once again, Jan Jennings looked like Randy Moss
out there.
Speaker 3 (30:27):
Look when Demo's not playing and you're not featuring Brandon
and I you, someone's got to get.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
The ball and go back to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
Jenny's had a great rapport with Rock Purty in the
Super Bowl, so that just kind of a continuation. But
once again, living in the NFL Week three upside down.
I didn't think the Cowboys would lose the way that
they did.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
I I picked them to lose that one. But I
didn't see the comeback. I didn't see the Yeah, I
didn't see.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
The late comeback, and my goodness, they were they were trying.
Speaker 3 (30:57):
But but think about this, Baltimore ran the ball more.
Speaker 1 (31:01):
Than a passed. You know how disrespectful that is. Four weeks.
I know how disrespectful it is. On NCAA twenty five.
Of course, I send you the screen, Crabs. I feel
like you ran sixty times and given through three times?
What's wrong with you?
Speaker 3 (31:16):
So? I'm sure you're probably watching that Baltimore Ravens Dallas
Cowboys game, going, Yes, this is the type of game
that I wanted.
Speaker 1 (31:23):
To see and I love seeing.
Speaker 3 (31:24):
So I mean so much of the upside down in
the NFL from Week three.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
Yeah, it was.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
There were several games that I just you know that
I didn't see coming. That was one of those ones.
The early slate I missed on most of those games.
I did have Philly over over New Orleans, but there
were there were most of those early games where I
was just sitting there like, wow, I whiffed this week.
I even picked Tennessee over Green Bay thinking that, you know,
Malik Willison, what look at look at that. If there
ever was, if there ever was an example of organization matters,
(31:55):
could it be Malik Willis Because you look at what
he did in Tennessee, which was nothing.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
Well what would he didn't do? Right?
Speaker 2 (32:01):
And then you look at Green Bay and he comes
in and they're like, well we got to coast through
with with this guy for Geordan Love and all of
a sudden he's winning football games.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
See that that goes back to changing the scene and
remotivates players, but also have an organization to buying.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
In Yeah, and I think that's a huge part.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
I'm gonna get into the Brice Young aspect of that.
We're gonna break down this Broncos game. Caught up next
to your lists to Broncos Country Night.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
