Speaker 2 (00:24):

Speaker 1 (00:26):
You guys would come down Sam's Number three tomorrow full
Live show and.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Get you some breakfast for dinner. I know I did.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
They were absolutely stunned to find out exactly how many
Hash Browns I could eat.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
It was something of a running gag.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
But we last time I was down there at Sam's
before I got sick and was out of the weather
for a week, we they brought out a you know,
play at hash Browns and said this will fill you up.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
And I'm like, sir, this is a run here.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
I'm gonna need you to go back into the back
there and cook up all the Hash Browns that you have.
And I wound up they gave me a single portion
covered in cheese on the first the first thing. Then
they gave me two triple orders back to back, and
then I uh, then I wound up eating another three
or four double orders of hash browns over the course
of over the course of a few hours. And so

(01:16):
they were dumbfounded by the amount of shredded potatoes that
you boy can put away. So maybe you know, I mean,
I am a secret fat kid. So that's you know,
is what it is. But they they cook it right,
Sam's number three. They get the best food. Go get
some breakfast for dinner. It's just one of the one
of the best things that you can do. I think
it's one of those fun things you can do. Breakfast

(01:36):
for dinner's always fun, man, you know. I always loved
it when mom would do that. Mom would make breakfast
for dinner. It was always like a treat, you know,
even though it's just regular breakfast off, but it was
breakfast for I don't know why it was such a treat,
but it was five six six nine zeros text line.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Had I saw a meme.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
I guess it was the other day where somebody was saying,
if you if you had this and showed a picture
this particular food. Then you had the awesomest parents, and
it was a picture of what we called sos. I
can't say it on the air blank on a shingle.
I don't know what you guys call it, but it's
chip beef and cream sauce on toast. And I wanted
to talk to Ferg about this because I don't know
if he had it growing up, Like when I came

(02:17):
back from Iraq the first time, it was the me
and my mom, It's like, you can have anything.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
I'll cook you anything for dinner. What do you want else?

Speaker 1 (02:23):
Like I want some sos And she was just dumbfounded
that that was what I wanted. But it's I mean,
it's one of those things that was always good and
it was kind of comfort food, I guess growing up,
and it was one of those things that coming back
from Ma Rios, something I missed and wanted. So I yeah,
I saw that meme on I guess was Instagram the
other day and I wanted to know if you guys

(02:45):
had the same things you guys ever had that. It's
that chip beef on toast in the you know, in
the white cream sauce and what you called it, because
people call it different things, like somebody called it Welsh rabbit,
which it's not Welsh rarebit. That's a different dish, but
somebody said that's what they called it, you know. S
s of course is what we called it. And I'm
just curious as to the different names and how many

(03:08):
of you actually had that, uh for a meal coming up.
Big news around the valley today, A lot of a
lot of news around the valley today. Not all that great.
They did sign Kwan Alexander after his uh good workout yesterday.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
That's the good news.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
The bad news is they had to sign him, uh
because they needed to get some bodies in there. Alex
Singleton's out for the season. Alex Singleton has a torn
acl He will wish the remainder of the season. Head
Coachean Payton announced the news, adding Singleton will undergo surgery
the next two weeks. Singleton, who is thirty, sustained the

(03:58):
injury in last week's win over Tampa. He suffered the
injury in the first quarter and it was on the
Brandon Jones interception that he suffered it. And you can
actually see it if you go back watch the replay
you can see him suffered, but he played through it
the rest of the game. He reported swordus in the
knee after the game, leading to tests confirming the injury.
Singleton was Denver's leading tackler through three weeks with thirty one,

(04:19):
tie for eight to the league. Also had an interception
back in Week one. It was in the second year
of a three year, eighteen million dollar deal he signed
with the Broncos in March of last year. Singleton, who
came into the league as an undrafted free agent signing
with the Seattle Seahawks back in May of twenty fifteen,
didn't make his NFL debut until twenty nineteen with Philadelphia.

(04:41):
Six hundred and thirty three career tackles for sacks, three interceptions,
seventy nine career games fifty starts with the Eagles and Broncos.
Justin Sternaud was behind Singleton on the depth chart. Broncos
signed Kwan Alexander to the practice squad and are expected
to sign Zach Cunningham to the practice squad as well
in an effort to to fill in with bodies. I've
heard some rumors about some some jail skinner packages down

(05:06):
there in the in the boxes, linebacker and all that
kind of stuff. So that'll be you know, that'll be
interesting to see what they roll out against the Jets.
In terms of that, the Broncos also signed running back
Tyler Bidet to the fifty three. And it is Beday
now and not Baty, even though he told everybody was Baty,
and now he's telling everybody it's Bedet.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
So it's Tyler Bedey now.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Beday was on the practice squad you got, of course,
had the call up last couple of weeks and forty
three yard carry in the fourth quarter the Bucks was
the longest run by a Broncos player this season. He
had been elevated for the practice squad over the last
two weeks after running back ordterc Estimate was placed on
ir due to an ankle injury. Against the Steelers, he

(05:50):
only had the one carry, but it's for sixteen yards
and saw his production I see a little bit more
in week four as well from Missouri. Product provided some
some need to pop to the run game, which currently
ranks twenty second in yards per game in the league.
He has ten carries eighty six yards, which is obviously
eight point six per attempt, but has more rushing yardage

(06:10):
than starter Javonte Williams, who has twenty four carries fifty
two yards despite having half as many carries. Williams got
the doghouse after fumbling the ball after breaking a tackle this.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
This past week.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
As far as the other stuff goes, you know, we
reported obviously on the Quant Alexander workout yesterday and if
you look at the depth chart, we talked about Justice
sternadd Christian Welsher. They brought in who's largely a special
teamer in reserve. Drew Sanders was on the pop with

(06:44):
an achilles injury. But Quant Alexander, who is also thirty,
same age as Alex Singleton. He was a starter for
most people probably remember him in Tampa where he was
a star. He was a starter for the the Niners
and Saint as well the Jets and Steelers. Torris Achilles
last November, about eleven months ago. Fourth round pick by

(07:05):
the Bucks back in twenty fifteen, spent four seasons in
Tampa and got a Pro Bowl in twenty seventeen. So
I went to Niners in twenty nineteen. They traded him
to the Saints in twenty twenty. Kawhan Alexanders earns something
like thirty four million in his career and was on
a one million dollar contract with the Steelers.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
You know, it could be a bargain edition. We'll see.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
Recently worked out for the Falcons and Vikings. He appeared
in nine games, two starts last year for the Steelers,
forty one tackles, five for a lost, one sack, one
forced fumble, one interception, one pass deflection. But he has
been working out Torres' Achilles in November, has been working
out since April. Started twelve seventeen games with the Jets

(07:47):
back in twenty twenty two. Sixty nine tackles, six stops
behind the line, one force fumble, went deflection, and so
looking to add depth, you know, and now you've got
Cody Barton and Sternad and you know a few other
bodies out here. Lavelle Bailey.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
They're hoping to.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
Sign Jonahs Griffith back to the practice squad, but you
know they're out there looking. Bailey is still a member
of the practice squad, but Jonas Underwit surgery to address
a c L already. So that's you know that sort
of presents, uh presents an issue, and you know he's

(08:32):
Alex Singleton, whatever you think of him, certainly got a
lot of tackles, clean up a lot of.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
Plays to the Broncos.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
I wish he'd been a little bitre aggressive getting downhill,
but you know, the athleticism was sort of a key cog.
Cody Barton not really known for his athleticism, an instinctive
middle linebacker, but you know you can pick on him
a little bit. So uh, Kawan Alexander, who is probably
the ball, uh you may add a little bit more
in terms of what his team needs as the Denver Broncos,

(09:02):
by all accounts, are a top five defense on on
just about every metric out there.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
So uh, that'll be uh to me.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
That's that's gonna be of interest in terms of what
it is that this team is able to do going
forward because Alex Singleton, you know, like I said, he was.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
A big part of that. And so.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
You know, now you've got Sternad and Cody Barton probably starting,
Christian Welch and Kuan Alexandrial kind of come along and
we'll see what he's able to do. But those will
be the main the main ones right now. Coop and
Benito on the edge, Browning of course, has been injured.
Jonah Ellis has been in rotation, and then we saw
Andrea Tilman come in make his debut and get two

(09:47):
sacks against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So upfront, looks like
we're we're pretty healthy. Zach Alleny, J Jones, John Franklin, Myers,
nobody on the injury report. That's unexpected. The Broncos, of course,
out in West Virginia right now at the Greenbrier, decided

(10:08):
to stay on the East coast all week rather than
come back and then travel to New York. So we'll see,
you know, we'll see if that helps, if that is
able to keep their HOMEO stations regulated. As you know,
you had the early game, and you know, going West
coast to east, those early games they can mess with

(10:31):
your rhythm a little bit. I thought, I thought pol
Showsky looked really good in relief of Mike McGlinchey in
that Tampa game. Didn't probably give him enough in terms
of talking about how good he was this past week. Honestly,
I thought the the weak link on the offensive line

(10:51):
in that particular game was Garrett Bowles. We'll see if
he's able to kind of pick things up a little bit.
Luke Wattenberg has sort of been the the weak link
on the offensive line to start the season, but Bowls
looked like he was having some trouble over there at
left tackle against Tampa. Devon Valet should be back for
this game. Little Jordan Humphrey obviously elevated. So now you've

(11:16):
got Courtland Sutton, Josh Renils, Little Ordan Humphrey is the starters,
with Vallet, mims And and Troy Franklin getting reps as well.
In the running back room, I wouldn't be surprised to
see but they get a few more snaps just to
kind of see where he's at. They've got to find
the rotation and they've got to find a way to
you have to find a way to get Javonte into rhythm,

(11:37):
you know, because they haven't done that, and you know,
the results early on have sort of been a disaster.
The Broncos currently have a full practice squad with the
addition of of Kwan and I don't know who they're
going to drop to add Zach Cunningham, but we'll we'll

(11:57):
figure all that out, I guess once they once they
juggle everything currently sitting on the pop as the Laren
Turnery Yell and Drew Sanders on the IR. They have
Mike McGlinchey, the Mariy Mathis Audric Estime, Baron Brown and
Quinn Bailey and Alex Singleton. Now so and then of
course you know taking on the jets right here September

(12:18):
twenty ninth at eleven am right here on k Well,
you guys want to come out to the Koe Orange
Blue Brunch. We're doing it at Avanti this weekend. So

Speaker 2 (12:37):
The Orange and Blue Brunch by Sesson and Devanni.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
For those of you who don't know that is it's

highway and it's it's a fasting place right across from
Happy Camper. If you've ever seen that place there, that's
right there, and I used to live down it. I
used to be on my jog route, used to go
to that place on occasion. It's got all kinds of
different foods and you know you can kind of sit
and order from the different places, if different people in

(13:00):
your party, what different food to get, different styles and
all that. So I encourage you guys to come on
out check it out at Avante on Sunday morning, the
Orange of Blue Brunch.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Looking forward to that.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
Coverage will start right here on KO at seven am,
be myself doing the the Gambling Show, myself and and
Ryan Everards doing the Fantasy Show right after that eight
o'clock and then I'll just get a outle down there
about but we need to be there about eleven am
for the Origin of Blue Brunch down there at Avante
this weekend, So come on check that out. Looking forward
to seeing you guys out there. I wanted to get

(13:34):
into a little preview of the New York Jets, start
turning the page and talking about them. Obviously, I think
everybody knows, you know, everybody knows Aaron Rodgers and you know,
and all that kind of stuff. But what is it
that the Jets have? What is it they do well?
What is it that they don't do well? So we'll
get into that in the next segment. What are the

(13:58):
Broncos going to have to do in order to be
a to uh in order to beat them? What are
the Broncos gonna have to do to be able to
beat the Jets.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Jets are good.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
It's a reason they're favored by seven and a half.
They're gonna be Uh, They're gonna be a tough a
tough team to beat. Now, you know, not a lot
of faith was had in Denver beating the Tampa Bay Bucks,
myself among them be the first to admit that. But

(14:26):
you know, I this is to me, this is a
tougher ask. I mean this is the Jets have a
very good defense. Uh, the offense is stocked at the
right positions. But I will say this, if I had to,
if I had to have you guess the passing yardage
for each of these two teams, I don't think you

(14:48):
guys would realize how close it is for the season.
Through three games this year, Bonicks has exactly six hundred
passing yards.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
Aaron Rodgers has six twenty four.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
Aaron Rodgers literally averaging eight passing yards per game more
than Bonick. Uh Nix is zero touchdowns to four interceptions,
where Rogers is five touchdowns to one interception.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
But it certainly is.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
A in terms of yardage, there's it's not that disparate
in terms of the run game. Bonux leads to Broncos
one hundred seven rush yards. That's a problem, but you know,
we'll see, we'll see if they can get the run
game going against the Jets. That's just a tough front

(15:33):
four and and much like the Broncos, they have a
very good defense. Broncos are sixth and points seventeen point three.
The Jets are eight to seventeen point three. These guys
just don't neither of them allow points. The Jets allow
two hundred and eighty yards a game, the Broncos allow
to sixty. The Broncos passing yards against one thirty three,

(15:55):
the Jets passing yards against one fifty rushing yards against
one twenty six twenty nine. The Jets get a few
more sacks. Like the Broncos have eleven sacks, they're fifth
in the league. The Jets get thirteen and a half.
So they get after the quarterback.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
They really do.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
In terms of rushing alloud per game, they're both twenty
second and twenty first. The Broncos are twenty first against
twenty second four. The Jets are twenty first four twenty
second against. They're both you know, kind of right there
in terms of not being able to run the ball
and maybe a little bit susceptible to the run. One
thing I will say is the Jets only have one
interception on the season. The Broncos do have two time

(16:32):
possessions pretty similar about thirty minutes for both.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
So we'll get into it.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
We're gonna we're gonna break down this this Jets roster
when we come back. Guys are listening to Broncos Country Tonight.
I'm Benjamin A'll break and you are here on KOA
say fifty A ninety four one FM News Talk Sports.
Welcome back to it Broncos Country Tonight, Benjamin Olbright, here

(17:00):
with you, Michael Cooper back there behind the glass. Five
six six nine zero is the text line, appreciate some
of the stuff you guys sent in about sos. Yeah,
chippyfon toast man in cream sauce, like it's whatever you
want to call it, however you called it, whatever you
called it. It was one of those things, one of

(17:20):
those cheap, easy meals growing up that Mom's made. And
I don't know why, I always thought of it as
comfort food, like I mean, it just did. And so
that was, Yeah, that was the first meal that I
request home cooked meal. I requested that my mom make
when I got back from a rack. Remember we went
out the first night. I showed back up. She didn't

(17:41):
know it's gonna be home and surprised my mom at
the door. And you know, I've been gone for quite
a while at that point. The first tour was like
a year and a half, and so I've been gone
for a while. And uh knocked on the door and she,
I mean, Mom.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
Just broke down in tears. You know, it was it
was good to see her.

Speaker 1 (18:00):
But as she's holding me and like sobbing, burying her
for like ugly cry, burying her her face in my chest,
she totten guy grabs my arms and takes like a
half step back and think, you smell awful. It made
me go take a shower on the spot, which you know,
in her defense, I did smell awful. And I'd just

(18:21):
taken a civilian flight to Saint Louis. So I apologize
if you were on that plane whenever it was May
June of two thousand and four or whatever it was,
when I got back and you smelled a very smelly
service member, I apologized. Here Olfactory cavity. I remember it was.
It was so funny getting back from there. It was
weeks before I showered all the sand out too. That

(18:43):
was one of those things like would you would still
find sand in the bottom of the shower weeks later?
Is fascinating how how that stuff gets in the finer finder,
cracks of the skin or whatever.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
Not to get two derailed.

Speaker 1 (18:57):
I got a big game coming up against the Jets
this this weekend. It's part of the road stretch. The
Broncos been on the road lot to start this season. Obviously,
get the win on the road against Tampa last week,
but a tougher task I think in the New York
Jets this week. Looking around the Jets roster three starting
receivers Garrett Wilson, Alan Lazard, and Mike Williams. Lazard, somebody

(19:20):
the Broncos had pursued opted to sign with the Jets
for a little less money. That may have been good
for the Broncos. Lozzard hadn't been very productive. Certainly was
a productive last year, although he's been doing better with
Aaron Rodgers in there. Mike Williams, I think most Broncos
fans know him from the Chargers, A great deep ball
receiver for a number of years, just has not been

(19:41):
very involved in the offense for the Jets thus far.
Backup receivers Malachi Corley, the rookies, Xavier Gibson, Irvin Charles.
You look at the offensive line left to right, Tyron Smith,
that left tackle, John Simpson, left guard, Joe Tipman at
the center, Elijah Barry Tucker right guard. Morgan Moses would
be the right tackle. He's been, he's hurt. Oulufshanu the

(20:03):
rookie will be the right tackle, and that's going to
be a point of emphasis. I think if you are
the Broncos, to try to get after that rookie and
see what you can do at a tight end. Tyler
Conklin is the starter. We've got backups Jeremy Ruckert and
Brendan Bates. Rogers is backed up by Tyrod Taylor, and

(20:25):
then you've got the running game. Breis Hall is the
no name in the veteran but the backup Braylan Allen
might be more talented, might be the more talented running
back of the two. There's just sprinkling a rookie Isaiah Davis,
and then of course you've got Israel Abataconda back there
as well. The defensive side, they run a four to
three and it's a cover three defense at its base,

(20:46):
will McDonald's and Michael Clemens at the ends, with Javon
Kinlaw and Quinnin Williams at the tackles. Backing up the
ends are tack McKinley, Braden McGregor and rookie Eric Watts.
Backing up the tackles, Salomon Thomas, Jaylen Holmes, Leonard Taylor.

Speaker 2 (21:02):
At the linebackers. You've got Quincy Williams, quin Williams brother
uh C J. Mosley, who's hurt.

Speaker 1 (21:09):
And I said it was a four to three, it's
really more of a kind of a four two five
that they that they run, you know, Nicholas kind of base,
but it's it's four down linemen up front, not a
three three down lineman like the Broncos. The linebackers of
Quincy William C. J. Mosey mostly hurt. You got Chas
Sarratt and Jamie Sherwood as well as sam Oggua Vohen

(21:31):
I missed that name up every time backing them up
as well. At the corners. Everybody knows Sauce Gardner, H.

Speaker 2 (21:38):
D J.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
Reid Man's slot, Michael Carter the second On the other
side as well, Brendon Nichols and Jerreed. Bernard Convers backed
them up, with Quantes Stiggers, the highly touted rookie as
well at the safety position, long veteran Chuck Clark and
Tony Adams, with Ashton Davis and Isaiah Oliver backing them up.

(22:04):
Oliver came over from San Francisco. A lot of San
Francisco retreads, I think on this defense. You know, we
talked about, uh, you know, Isaiah Oliver just a moment ago,
but you know, Chad Surratt came over from San Francisco,
Javon Kin Loss, Slivan, Thomas Tac McKinley came It was

(22:26):
originally with the Falcons, but came over via San Francisco
as well. They've just got a lot of forty nine
ers guys in there. And of course, you know, no
surprise with Robert Salaby and the head coach. Everybody knows
Nate Hackett is the o C, Jeff Alberts, the d C,
Brent Boyer, the special teams coordinator, Tom Morristeed's a punter,
Greg zer Line, Greg the leg the kicker h Thomas

(22:46):
Hennessy is their long snapper on punt returns. Kick return
Xavier Gibson usually handles that with Isaiah Davis and Malachai Corley.
Uh so you'll probably see the bulk of their work
there as well. We've all seen what Nate Hackett's offense
looks like, but Rodgers is really the one run in
the offense. They you know, they get a play call
in Rogers surveys the line. If he likes it, he
sticks with it. If not, kills it and goes to

(23:06):
what he wants to do, and he kills quite a
few plays at the line. The Jets are fourteenth in
the league and points scored per game twenty two point three.
They are twentieth in yards yards per game though at
three three twenty point seven. They are thirteenth in passing
yards per game, but twenty first in rushing yards per

(23:29):
game twelfth in time of possession.

Speaker 2 (23:35):
You know, I.

Speaker 1 (23:38):
The Jets offense has hardly been prolific to start the season,
but it's been good versus the Broncos, which has not
exactly been super exciting. The Broncos finally started to click
last week.

Speaker 2 (23:53):
So we'll see if that continues. On into this game.

Speaker 1 (23:55):
But really, this feels like a game where you're you've
got two really good defenses and it's going to be
a field position type game. Whoever can't establish the run.
The Jets have been a little bit more successful. The
Broncos are going to have to be successful in doing
so in an.

Speaker 2 (24:09):
Effort to.

Speaker 1 (24:12):
In an effort to supplant this defense, you can't let
him pin their years back. You can't let him get
in a position to where they're gonna be able to
pin their years back and be able to come after you,
because if they do, Will mcdonald'll make you pay. Will
McDonald is the talented defensive end leads the team with
five sacks. Quincy Williams leading tackler twenty four. Brandon Eckles

(24:33):
has the only interception that they have this season. Leading
rushers Breze Hall one hundred and seventy yards, Braidlen Allen
is ninety six yards. Although he will probably get a
bigger workload, somebody's been working his way into the rotation.
And then their biggest receiving threat I talked about, Allen
Lazard was a non factor this year and one of
their biggest receiving threats this year, He and Garrett Wilson
one hundred and forty eight one hundred and fifty yards receiving, respectively.

(24:56):
Brece Hole gets a lot of catches in this offense,
one hundred and twenty receiving yards for him. Tyler Conklin
the tight end, rounds out the one hundred plus receivers
there For the Jets, I think the big thing is
the big keys to this are with Fashan who starting

(25:17):
at right tackle. You've got to be able to get
after him. He was the Jets first round pick this year.
It's gonna be the first real opportunity to shine a
regular season game. But you know he'll be next to
Elijah Vera Tucker and probably will move the tight end
Tyler Conkline over there to help out. But if you're
the Broncos, you got to pick on you got to
pick on him there. He's untested, he's an untried rookie.

(25:39):
You're gonna have to if you're going to attack the
Jets on their offensive line, that's the place that you
want to attack. You're gonna have to keep our own
quarterback upright. The Jets have got an excellent pass rusher
in Will McDonald he's got five sacks through three games,

(26:00):
and the rest of the bass rush there's no slouch either.
Most of them have one and a half or two sacks,
one and a half, one, two sacks, And so if
you're Denvert, you've really got to keep Nick's clean because
we saw it in the Tampa game. The Tampa was
not able to get any pressure at all between the

(26:20):
BA gaps.

Speaker 2 (26:20):
They just weren't.

Speaker 1 (26:21):
They weren't able to do anything when with Vita Vea out,
it was it was a tough ask that led to
bo Nicks kind of getting more confidence in himself and
you could see it sort of in real time, and
I know Champagne the lay didn't have any more confidence,
which was stupid because you can see it, you know.
Bow They also attacked early. You know, you ran what

(26:44):
three shot plays. I think on that first drive. Attacking
early and putting the Jets back on their heels a
little bit instead of coming downhill I think would be
hugely beneficial. I'd love to see them take a deep shot,
you know, just line Mimes up on the back side
of the play, let them let him take a deep
shot right off the bat, put them back on their heels.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
A little bit.

Speaker 1 (27:02):
If you could keep Nick's clean and keep the defense
from from biting down on all the short stuff and
you're gonna have to establish the run, then you're gonna
have a chance. The other part of this, you know,
Garrett Wilson, They've got some some pretty pretty good receivers
over there in New York, and so you know, Lazard

(27:23):
has has largely been a target that they've gotten going
this season with Garrett Wilson somebody that.

Speaker 2 (27:32):
They've done well getting going recently. I believe he'll be
lined up with Cirtan, so that that will help.

Speaker 1 (27:42):
But you'll see them trying to flip flop it around
or find ways to, you know, to get him open.
And you want Sirtan to play that continue to play
lockdown defense and be able to kind of shut him
out if you can. That now'll make them a little
more one dimensional, but they do. They love to spread
the ball around. In the passing game. They will go
to the running back and Hall, they will go to
the tight end. Hall will get plenty of targets in
this one. He will probably be the most past targeted

(28:05):
running back certainly the Broncos have played so far. Maybe
that they play all year. They love to you know,
that's one of those Hacket things. He loves to target
the running backs. Aaron Rodgers loves to target the running backs,
let him create. I would not be surprised to see
quite a bit of that as well in this particular game.

(28:28):
And you know, a Haul through three games has forty
six rushing attempts, but he's also got sixteen receptions. I mean,
he's their third leading and has the most receptions on
the season of any Jets receivers. So you knowes have
two fumbles, he lost one, so maybe, you know, maybe

(28:49):
you try and chop at the ball a little bit
so he can get a turnover. This would be a
game where someone like I don't know and Alex sing
would come in, but thus far not really, you know,
with him, with Alex out for the game and out
for the season, excuse me, with the ACL it's that's
gonna be an opportunity for somebody else to show up.
Maybe justin Sternad can finally get that, you know, that

(29:11):
break that he's been looking for.

Speaker 2 (29:12):
We'll see.

Speaker 1 (29:14):
I talked a little bit about Mike Williams four catches
on the ear fifty three yards. They haven't really gotten
him going, and he was an elite deep threat guy
when he was with the Chargers, but he has not
gotten going for the Jets.

Speaker 2 (29:27):
And so that's one of those things.

Speaker 1 (29:28):
They've got several different receivers so that you'd like to
sort of see them get going.

Speaker 2 (29:34):
So five six six nine zeros tech.

Speaker 1 (29:38):
But he asked about Solomon Thomas, whether it's the Niners
former first round Yeah, it is. He's he's right there
on the Jets as well. Like I said, they do
have quite a few former San Francisco players, and that's
that for first round defensive lineman for the San Francisco
forty nine ers. They have Javon Kinlall, who's the starter
there as well. So you know Robert Sala who comes

(29:59):
from that, it comes from them, was a defensive coordator
for the Niners before uh coming up to New York.

Speaker 2 (30:06):
I like Robert Salad. I think he's a good coach.

Speaker 1 (30:09):
I you know, it bugs me the amount of people
that UH that want to can him in New York.
I think he's built a very tough, very disciplined football
team that they just didn't have the quarterback right now.
They got Rogers in there, and I think they'll they'll
be fine. It could be contender.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
This year.

Speaker 1 (30:26):
You have several defensive players that have registered sacks.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
For the Jets.

Speaker 1 (30:32):
McDonald we talked about with the five sacks has really
been a force. Solomon Thomas and Michael Clemens each have
one and a half. Tony Adams safety has one. Chuck
Clark of safety has won. Adams also defended four passes.
Tony Adams has been a relation out there. Sauce Garger
even has a sack this year. They'll blitz the corner.

(30:52):
Quentin Williams obviously, Jamine kin Law and Tac McKinley's have
a one. Yeah, they're they're I mean, the Jets don't
want to blitz you. They want to send four and
drop everybody else back into coverage and basically run the
same coverage that the Seattle Seahawks were famous for in
the Legion of boom Era.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
There are ways to beat it. There are.

Speaker 1 (31:18):
The ways to beat the Cover three. A matter of fact,
the Cover three is sort of falling out of favor.
It really has. I mean, as as as Vic Fangio's
defense has sort of taken over, the Cover three has
has largely fallen out of favor in the NFL, so
they're running a defense that you just don't see that

(31:42):
often anymore. Some cover three beaters that we want to
see is curl flat. That's one of the most effective
cover three beaters out there. You run curl flat because
you've got those outside corner of deep zones, so you
use the curls to push them out, you know, and
then the flat underneath it, and generally there's not gonna
be a defender there to be able to you know,
one of those routes is gonna come open.

Speaker 2 (32:04):
And that's.

Speaker 1 (32:07):
You'll see that route combo quite a bit. I would
not be surprised to see route combo quite a bit.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
In this game. Hitch seam.

Speaker 1 (32:16):
There's another cover three beat route combo kind of attacks
the The outside linebacker, usually the will is who you're
going after in that one, and you're forcing him to
make a decision. Let's say you get the two routes
from the receivers on the left. Does he stay in
for the shorter outside route or drop back to cover

(32:37):
the deep route. You know, you have the X run
a hitch with a depth of about five yards. The
h will run a seam route near the hash marks,
and then on the other side of the field you
have the why run a steam route as well. The
Z can do a double move like a hitch and
go whatever, but it's designed to mirror the left and
right sides of the field and to try to fake

(32:59):
a one are out hopefully leave space deep down the
right sideline. I think everybody knows that four verts with
a with a running back coming out of the backfield
as a combo that you know people run on cover three.
It's it's it's fairly common. Double smash another mirrored concept
for those in a little smash.

Speaker 2 (33:18):
It's kind of that.

Speaker 1 (33:19):
It's the slot receiver or the tight end on kind
of a sale, and then the corner will run a
curl back to the field underneath it, and so it
really forces the corner, stresses the corner out to make
a decision, you know, high or low, and then gives
you gives you an option to do that. Similar to
four verts, all posts is another way to go, but

(33:40):
you have every receiver run a sort of a post
pattern towards the inside with different breakof points, and it
forces all the defenders towards the inside of the field,
and then you put the running back on an angle
route to kind of get a de facto Texas concept
going underneath it. So for those who don't know, I
mean Cover three, it's his zone scheme. You're you're dropping
three defenders deep, which is it gets its name. Usually

(34:02):
the outside corners dropped to the outside third with a
free safety play in the middle third. There are variations
or rotations on all that, but that's the general consensus
of that. Underneath that you got four under defenders that
will kind of split the field underneath the deep three
shellowt the quarters. Any whether that's the linebackers, the strong safety,
you know, whatever, you know it's it's it's fairly flexible.

(34:29):
So you know, the will along with the strong safety
usually dropped to cover curl flats on the outside fourth.
And that's what we talked about when we we were
talking about, you know, Cover three beaters the curl flats
a good one to go. The salm and mike are
usually responsible for hook drops and kind of the middle fourth.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
So for a long time, you know, Cover three.

Speaker 1 (34:53):
Was viewed as a defensive scheme that you know, for
high school and lower levels of football.

Speaker 2 (34:58):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (34:58):
And that's because probably and college offenses we're able to
take advantage of passing concepts that attack the defense you know,
at every level. But in recent years, over the last
a decade or so, there have been teams, especially you know,
Seattle and Pee Carroll, have really utilized that cover three
and it morphed into a pretty efficient scheme. It's a

(35:18):
solid zone scheme that you know, you rush four, drop seven,
but it has its flaws, specifically, if you can get
your skill position players at each level into each level.
It forces you know, players to make a lot of choices,
and usually you can get somebody to bust on that

(35:39):
you know, and you've got eleven guys and they're having
to make choices. Seven of them are having to make
choices that can force them into decisions, and somebody tends
to mess up. So you are listening to Broncos Country
