Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's been all bred Nick Ferson, Zach Segers share with
(00:01):
you five six six nine zero is the text line.
We'll go right out to the Ka costro Off hotline
and bringing a guy, Patrick Chotis, he's a contributor. Let's
talk Broncos and Uh apparently missed his show with Mile
High Mario last night. Ryan Edwards was was the guest
on there. Patrick, Uh, we find Uh. We're happy that
(00:21):
you had the time to make for us, even if
you had to blow off your own show.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
To do it.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Well, you know, parenthood is uh is a very busy
thing and Mario should know that.
Speaker 4 (00:34):
But I had to deal with two kids yesterday, Ben.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
And Mario and Ryan right completely.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
Yeah, to be.
Speaker 5 (00:41):
Completely honest, you.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
Know yesterday I was just I was drained.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
There was no way I was doing that show. But
I'm always happy when Zach Segers h's my line and
asks me to come on this illustrious program. ID I
do just have one question for you, Ben, Yes, did
Latavious Maury ever get back to you? Because we need
to find out if he is ready to go for
six games or not.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
He and mark Ingram it's the same senior Center. I'm
trying to get a hold of both. We'll see what
happens when I get in touch with Golden Pines Nursing
Home and figure out what's going on with the both
of them. But speaking of bringing back fossils a little
Jordan Humphrey Day for those who celebrate us back with
the Denver Broncos, and how many screens are.
Speaker 5 (01:22):
We going to see on Sunday?
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Well, the limit does not exist apparently with you know,
with Dobbins and out and this running back room just being.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Not enthusiastic at all.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
Honestly, in my eyes, I think we're going to see a.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
Healthy amount of screens. And who better to bring back
than Lil Jordan Humphrey.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
I know the Broncos.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Broncos faithful, We're very mixed about them bringing this guy back.
But they're not bringing him back to be a pass catcher.
They're not bringing him back to get you know, ten
targets a game. They're bringing him back because the block
on the perimeter has not been up to standard, especially especially.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
In that screen game, and they needed to do something.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
You know, we thought Trent Sirfield was going to be the.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
Solvent of the problem there and it just has not
happened that way.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
And when you.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Leave Adam Troutman and Evan Ingram out on the edge
to block dbs and safeties, that's not exactly pretty either.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
So bringing a guy who knows the system, who's.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
Going to give you everything he's got, full effort every
play and give him the ball a couple of times,
let him, let him get some yards after the catch.
We know that, we know he can make big plays
after the catch.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
So I like the signing.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
I think it's, you know, it's not one that's super sexy,
but in the eyes of the offensive mind, it's it's
definitely a guy that you want to have on your team.
Speaker 6 (02:49):
So Patrick and I asked you this question that I
posted Ben before you join the program with the edition
of le Joe and Humphrey coming off with the Giants
practice roster. And if it's for the reason that you said,
because the blocking on the perimeter wasn't great, what kind
of message does that send to the guys both veteran
(03:11):
and young guys in that wide receive a room that.
Speaker 7 (03:14):
They had to go outside the building to bring back
a guy.
Speaker 6 (03:17):
Who they didn't feel was worthy enough to make this team,
but they bringing him back.
Speaker 7 (03:22):
What was I saying about the guys in the room.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
Yeah, I mean I think and like, obviously I can't
speak for the guys in.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
The room, but I think like there's a lot of those.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Dudes played with him last year and they're like, oh, yeah,
our boys coming back. But like I do feel for
guys like Sherfield and like Ingram, who you know, they're
new to the team. They were brought in to kind
of do this job, and the coaching staff is saying, wow, yeah,
you're not good enough at it, so we're going to
bring this other guy in from a different team. Like, yeah,
I could I definitely could see that being like a
slap in the face. But for a lot of these
(03:54):
guys that are already in the room, this is a familiar.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Face for them.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
This is a guy that you know, they've been around
for the last couple of years, and uh, you know,
probably welcome welcoming him in.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
With open arms. But yeah, I could definitely see where.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
It would be.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
Uh, it'd be a little bit of a slap.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
But you know, we got to win football games, man.
And if Sean said it best a couple of weeks ago,
if if we can't get someone to do it right,
We'll find someone.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Else to bring in and get the job done.
Speaker 5 (04:23):
You know, that's not the only injuries that.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Of course, Lebronc is dealing with. Alex Singleton obviously out
for this game. Luckily we have a Justin Sternad available.
Jonah Ellis, who's been valuable in the rotation, has stinged up,
Hatsir Tan out for this game. The defense, which has
basically bailed the offense out most of the season. And
you know, last year we saw down the stretch over
(04:46):
alliance on the defense and the kne injuries and it
started leaking oil a little bit.
Speaker 5 (04:50):
Are we are we on the verge of that again
this year?
Speaker 4 (04:53):
Gosh, We're so close.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
It's feeling like that, like every week that one one
more guy goes down, one more guy gets dinged up.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
You know, Coop's got his thumb injury thing.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Kareean Reid goes on IR.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
That's a massive blow to an already ify special teams
unit and a guy that I personally, selfishly I wanted
to see more Kareean Reid with Singleton out, but you know,
that injury.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
Kind of puts a damper on that.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Pat not not playing.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
This week is huge because the Chiefs offense has been
picking up steam over the last few games. I mean,
I was doing some very quick mass before the show,
and over eleven hundred yards.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Of offense in the last three games.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
They're starting to feel themselves a little bit, you know,
getting rice back and everything.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
So that's it's it's tough during this time of year.
Speaker 6 (05:46):
You know.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Hopefully, hopefully the Singleton issue isn't one that lasts more
than you know, this week and the Bye I really
feel for him.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
I hope he comes back soon.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
But man, it's gonna be tough, especially having guys like
Label Bailey and Jordan Turner having to come up for
this game. You know, if Green Losh or not goes
down or they're not playing well, I mean, can you
really trust those guys to jump in and play meaningful
minutes in this football game. It's going to be really
tough for the defense.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
But you know, I think these guys are so.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Hungry, like they still have a lot to prove, and
those interior guys are doing a lot of damage and
this is a good week for them to just keep
on keep on doing.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
What they're doing.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Put more pressure on Mahomes, you know, kind of take away,
try to take away some of that confidence he's built
over the last three weeks despite the injuries.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
Still just know that it's next man up and we still.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Have a job to do.
Speaker 6 (06:41):
Speaking of a job to do, I would say that
Sean Payton's got a job to do after ten days
layoff against this Spagnola's defense, because in recent matchups, the
Broncos offense hasn't really put a bevy of points against
against this Spagnola's defense. So how is it that day
(07:02):
in your opinion? I have my own opinion. I know
Ben has his. How do you think they tip the
scales in their favor offensively?
Speaker 4 (07:12):
Man, It's gonna be such a strange week.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
I'm like, I'm really curious to see what Sean's plan
is with Dobbins being out because you don't have that
traditional downhill running back now, and how are you going
to change your run game based off of that, based
off of the personnel that you have.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Would love to see him kind of utilize.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
Like some of the game plan that he used last
year in that first game. You know, we saw some
more pistol looks in that first game. I think that
might honestly have to be the way to go. If
you're gonna roll with Harvey being the guy getting the
majority of the carries, you can still try to run
in between the tackles out of the pistol look, and
(07:56):
I think that's probably the best way for you to
get Harvey going downhill in between the tackles. He has
not run well in that area this year at all.
I mean, most of his damage is done outside for
big games. And while his defense is definitely still susceptible
to the run, and I mean they're like middle of
(08:16):
the pack in ten plus yard runs, this is still
a really good defense. They're gonna throw a lot of
different looks at you, but I think it's it's really
gonna come down to how he adjusts the run game.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Can we see some more.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Can we get some Bonnicks zone read this week?
Speaker 7 (08:34):
Please?
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Can we get some more Bonnicks design runs because you
have to.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
Make up for the Dobbins loss somehow, And let's stop
calling intermediate and long developing concepts. Let's get some more
quick hitters. They could They could design a whole RBO package.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
Just off of that zone read.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Look with Pat Bryant and Troy Franklin. Since Bo wants
to get them the ball so much. Let's stop with
downfield throws uh and rushing bon nicks through these progressions,
and let's just give him some good quick hitters. I
felt like he was really good at that last year
in that first game, he felt more comfortable. But this
(09:12):
is it's a new year, it's a different season and
it's a different bow. So just find ways to uh build.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
A run game back off the Dobbins loss. Get him
some confidence.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
Early with some quick hitters or some rpo looks, and
then you can utilize play action. But until then, man,
it's it's just not going to work. This this constant
screen game that he's.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
Running and and the long, deep.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
Deep progressions, like it's just it's not there.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
Let's dumb it down a little bit. Let's get some
more quick hitters. You've got big, physical receivers.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
Use them this.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
Uh, This Chiefs defense is one of the they're giving up.
Like if they're like third in average separation of receivers,
so it's not like they're, you know, they're shutting guys down.
They're they're still suscept to it. Use the physicality of
your receivers in the quick game, Uh, and just try
to sustain drives. That's that's all they have to do
this week.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
Talking with Patrick Keyoti, Patrick, Yeah, as we as we
look at this, yeah, Sean Sean Payton is used to
be called slant Peyton, where's the slant?
Speaker 5 (10:16):
Yeah, we haven't seen it.
Speaker 6 (10:17):
You know.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
The last time I think I saw one was when
Bonix was mailing it behind, but I think it was
Pat Bryant four yards behind.
Speaker 5 (10:21):
Pat Bryan And we haven't seen it since.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Why don't we If we're going to keep trying things
that don't work, why don't we try things that traditionally
have worked.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
Yeah, I mean that's a great.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
Question, and and that's kind of like that's.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
Been my biggest gripe honestly with with Peyton over you know,
over this tenure is he he's a guy who, like,
you know, as coordinators, we try to say, like, Okay,
if this play works, like we need to keep running
it until they stop it. And for him it's like, oh, yeah,
this play worked great. I'm going to go like fifty
(10:53):
plays in between calling it again.
Speaker 4 (10:55):
And it's like, why you're giving.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
It to you every time?
Speaker 4 (10:59):
Because you know, I want to try and.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
Get this screen in there, Oh we can hit them.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
With this, and oh we can hit them with this concept.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
No, just go back to what works. Like I said,
you've got guys that can create separation. I think back
to the Atlanta game last year. That was like the
first time we had really seen like slant rpo run
with these receivers. And Troy Franklin was so great at
it at Oregon and he looked really good running it
(11:27):
last year and they got like three first downs on it,
and then they stopped calling it for the rest of
the season, and they I think they've only called it
like a handful of times this year. And it's like, dude, like,
why are you taking away something that works so well?
Whether that's because of the play caller or whether that's
because the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (11:46):
Is nixing out of the call.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
No pun intended, but like something has to give because
you're just not calling plays that that work and not
calling plays that are easy reads for your quarterback.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
That's the biggest thing. You've got this guy who's gone.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
Happy seat, he's got a good arm, and he's typically
a really accurate passer, you know, between the sticks. Give
him those opportunities to make those plays.
Speaker 4 (12:12):
And give your guys an opportunity to.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
Get the ball and get some yards. Like Pat Ryan.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
Isn't the most explosive receiver, Court is not the most
explosive receiver, but damn it, man, if you want to
get seven or eight yards on first down, run a flamp.
You've got these big body receivers. Let them use their
frame and box people out and get some yards and
then it'll make your life a whole lot easier.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
Yeah, I agree, what are we doing with Troy Franklin
being the most targeted receiver in this offense? I get
to duck Dynasty jokes, but even that show was played
out quite some time ago.
Speaker 5 (12:46):
This is this is something that just doesn't make sense.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
You got the big body guy get there, you know,
let them run the slant, let them use the body
to box out and get them the ball.
Speaker 5 (12:51):
It just seems seems simple to be Patrick. We it
always goes too fast. We appreciate the.
Speaker 4 (12:55):
Time to night brother, of course, man, I really appreciate
it much.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Up to you both, and let's go Broncos.
Speaker 8 (13:02):
There you go, Let's go Broncos. All right, Broncos country today.
That was Patrick Coyote. We'll be back after this joining
us earlier in the program and study part of that.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
You go to Broncos, Country Night dot Com, Slash podcast
or each podcast, Apple iTunes, Spotify.
Speaker 5 (13:19):
The Free and redesigned iHeart Radio, Neil Do where.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
You can get the Taken for Granted podcast archives as well,
or listen to Koe Sports or anything else you want
to listen to. Five six six nine zero is the
text line threety five says. I like the idea of
running a slant. My problem is bad at balls. I
don't know if it's a delivery, if he telegraphs what
he's doing, leave that up to the experts to diagnose.
(13:42):
That's from Stacey Utah talk about Bo get the bat
at balls. You know the slant places Bo does drop
the arm socket a little bit, does have a few
bat at balls.
Speaker 7 (13:50):
Well, we saw that a lot.
Speaker 6 (13:52):
If I'm not mistaken in the Giants game, from my
defensive perspective, it is not really looking off before making
that throw. And we've seen both young quarterbacks and veteran
quarterbacks alike kind of make this mistake. And when that
receiver hits that third step on the slant route, you
(14:14):
want the ball to be out, but also you want
to a quarterback to be able to kind of look
off and then come back. And a lot of those
balls are being bad at once again, not just by
ball but other quarterbacks because once you go back to
when you once you go to that slant route, those
defenders are taught. If we can't get pressure and we
(14:36):
can't create a new line of scrimmage with penetration, all
you have to do is rush to the depth of
the quarterback, watch him and put.
Speaker 7 (14:45):
Your hand up right.
Speaker 6 (14:47):
We've seen a lot of individuals, like think about JJ
Watt and his time so much so that he was
called jj swatt yep because he was starting This was
kind of like towards to tell any of his career
where really blossom for him as far as batting balls
down like volleyballs.
Speaker 7 (15:03):
But that's what bol needs to do.
Speaker 6 (15:05):
Like when he takes this, well, it would help if
he was under center, but with bo being in the shotgun,
he's already in his five step seven step drop.
Speaker 7 (15:16):
So he gets the ball and then he.
Speaker 6 (15:19):
Kind of takes a little short hop step and then
he turns and goes to the direction where he's going
to go. But I'm thinking if he's under center and
he's pulling away with his footwork. As a defender, you're
not really sure where he's going because he can pull
away looking to the left and they come back later
to the to the right side of the field of
(15:40):
vice versa. But that is one part of Bo's game
that I would love to see the Broncos correct.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
Yeah, definitely would you know as well, there's a lot
of things I think to tune up mechanically with bow,
and I think the other part of that had the lookout,
like I don't think it's time for that. He's so
busy trying to get it out quick that he doesn't
do things like that should and looking off defenders and
make things a little bit easier this game. You know,
we put a lot of pressure on the Broncos for
this game because it's Kansas City and all that.
Speaker 5 (16:08):
Kind of stuff. But isn't this game more pressure for
Kansas City.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
If Kansas City doesn't win this game, they're effectively out
of it for the division.
Speaker 6 (16:15):
Well, yeah, that's what a significant amount of pressure on
case because they've lost to the Chargers, They've lost to
the Bills, right, two teams who you figure that will
be there towards the end of it. And the Broncos.
They've lost to the Colts and they've lost to the
Chargers as well, So there's some pressure on the Broncos,
but there's more pressure on the Chiefs because they're sitting
(16:39):
there at five and four looking up at everyone else, right,
And the Chiefs have not been in this position for
a long period of time, which I would add this
been This makes the Chiefs somewhat of a desperate team.
And usually when we see a team that's really desperate
in nature, they are capable of almost not almost, of.
Speaker 5 (17:03):
Just trying anything.
Speaker 7 (17:04):
So now you add that.
Speaker 6 (17:05):
Desperation onto the fact that you have an excellent play
calling designer in Andy Reid, and he's coming off of
a buye and everyone knows that the numbers he has
coming off a buy But I just look at as
the Chiefs being a desperate team, and that's what That's not.
Speaker 7 (17:23):
Where you want this team to be.
Speaker 5 (17:25):
I tried to look at this in the opposite angle, right.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
So the Broncos are eight and two, Chiefs five and four,
as you mentioned to lost by the Chiefs on Sunday,
the Bronxs will be nine to two and three and
a half games ahead of Kansas. City, you would be
at five and five with just seven games to go
for Kansas City. Not to mention, the Charger is still
ahead of the Chiefs with a head to head victory
that you already mentioned.
Speaker 5 (17:41):
Yep, you start to see the potential problem here for
Kansas City.
Speaker 1 (17:44):
Kind of deficit isn't impossible, but I mean everything would
have to go right for Kansas City and wrong for
the Broncos at that at that particular point in time,
Broncos obviously a lot of grief over the offensive woes
which were certainly on full display and that very ugly
ten to seven win over the Raiders last week. But
the defense remains very good. We still have a solid
floor and oh, by the way, you got a little
(18:06):
bit of cushion. You know, at this point, if the
Broncos beat Kansas City, it probably puts Kansas City's ANFC
West streak in jeopardy. It probably puts in the ground. Yeah,
I mean, Rocos basically have to lose out, Kansasity, have
to win out, and you have to get help from
the Chargers on top of all that in order for
that to go down. So, you know, if they lose
(18:27):
the most realistic path for Kansas City is a wildcard
spot at that point, and it's a two horse race
for the division between the Broncos and the team they
can't seem to beat in the Sean Payton era in
the Los Angeles Chargers.
Speaker 7 (18:37):
Well, here's the way I look at it from m
Kansas City standpoint.
Speaker 6 (18:41):
Would they like to win the division, Yes, because it
would just submitting their dominance over every other team in
AFC West. But I think at this point, based on
what they've experienced as a team, the multiple MVPs for
Patrick Mahomes, the trips to the Super Bowl, right, they're
(19:02):
okay with this new version.
Speaker 7 (19:05):
Of the Chiefs.
Speaker 6 (19:06):
Now. I'm not saying that they're happy about it, but
they're okay with where they are. And the whole idea
is where they're thinking is as long as we get in, right,
as long as we get in and we're playing our
best ball by the end of the season, we get
in the tournament, it's anyone's game at that point.
Speaker 7 (19:25):
That's the way they're thinking.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
But Kansas City has always had it goes through Arrowhead
is their playoff, you know, kind of mantra, and it
is playing in Arrowhead in those months, it's very difficult.
It's cold, it's open air, the crowd is raucous. It
is tough to play at Arrowhead late in the season
or in the playoffs. You're talking about a Kansas City
wildcard team probably not gonna have if they lose this game.
They're a wildcard team and they're probably not gonna have
(19:47):
home games.
Speaker 6 (19:48):
But once again, playing Devil's advocate, well, Kansas City is
gonna say, Ryan, Kansas City faithful. We'll say, remember last
season the Kansady Chiefs. I had eight or nine games
they won in the closing minute who seconds of the game,
and they were one score games. And they're thinking, we
(20:08):
made it to the super Bowl. Even though we got
boat race. We made it to the super Bowl super Bowl.
So for them, they're thinking, Okay, you know what, we've
been here before. It's sort of like the mindset of
the Broncos and Broncos fans saying that the Broncos can
win in the fourth.
Speaker 7 (20:26):
Quarter, right.
Speaker 6 (20:27):
But for Kansas City, they feel as though they've done
it over a longer period of time.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
They've earned it. They've done it over multiple seasons. They've
done that over multiple seasons. They've earned that reputation we're
doing it in one season here, and it's kind of like,
I are we going to continue doing this?
Speaker 6 (20:41):
And they feel as though, well, they now have Rashid Rice,
they have Xavier Worthy, they now have Hollywood Brown, Juju
Smith Schuster. They feel as though, you know what, as
even if they lose the game on Sunday, they feel
as though, as long as we say, keep pace with
the Denver Broncos, and it's the Denver Broncos defense, not
the office they have to contend with, and they have
(21:04):
somewhat of a good show them where they have positive plays.
They're thinking when they face the Broncos again on December
twenty fifth, that they would have figured out some ways
to attack them.
Speaker 7 (21:15):
So they're figuring, Okay, well, we're still in the ballgame, men,
We're not out of this yet. That's going to be
their frame of mind.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
And the other team that's being forgotten about here that
isn't out of it at all.
Speaker 5 (21:25):
It's the Los Angeles Chargers.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
They're up against the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are on fraud
Watch right now. This is going to be interesting because
Chargers is It's a west to East coast early game
against Jacksonville and Jacksonville Chargers favored by three on the road.
If Jags want to stay in the Wildcar Race, they
probably need to win. I mean, they're five to four
now and it's looking like it's cratering a little bit
there for them. Jack's fourth quarter collapse at the Houston
(21:47):
Texans set them back to five and four of the
Chargers are seven to three. They're still well in this
to win the AFC West, and in fact, they're almost
they're poised with the tiebreaker over the Broncos right now.
If they win and the Broncos lose, it puts them
right back almost in.
Speaker 5 (22:03):
The driver's seat.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
You're talking about a team that's playing without both their
starting offensive tackles.
Speaker 5 (22:07):
They're there first and second string running backs.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
You know, they're a team that's been eaten up by
the injury bug and they're still finding ways to forge
a head at seven to three.
Speaker 6 (22:14):
If you're a Charges fan, normally you wouldn't do what
I'm going to suggest, but you're going to be a
Kansasity C's fan all Sunday.
Speaker 7 (22:24):
If you're a Chargers fan, you're root.
Speaker 6 (22:25):
You're pulling for Kansas City all of a sudden, right
because the Chargers have edd Jags. They have the Raiders
before they play Kansas City, they have the Eagles, which
egos team we're going to see because of Monday Night football.
That offense look a little sputtery, right, and then after
the Chiefs game, they're at the Cowboys. Right, that's a
(22:47):
game that's winning them van it's the Texas before the Broncos. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
I think if you're a if you're a Broncos fan,
I think you're pulling for the Jags this weekend, and
I think you're rolling for him hard. The reason is
if Jacksonville beats them, they get the overall head to
head tiebreaker the wildcard the Jags are. The Chargers will
then drop to seven and four. The Jags moved to
six and four, they're fighting out for the wildcard, and
that reduces if you're a Broncos fan, you're pulling for
the Jags pretty hard this weekend.
Speaker 6 (23:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (23:13):
You know, this is the great thing about the back
half of the season.
Speaker 6 (23:18):
And I love how the NFL schedulers put this thing
together where a lot of meaningful games are being played
in the latter half of the season, because in years
past we did introditionally see that we saw a lot
of teams feeling as though they were comfortable with their
seedings and they were happy to sit players right now.
Speaker 7 (23:40):
You remove.
Speaker 6 (23:42):
The number two seed is to say, well, there's only
one seed in East Conference now enforces other teams to
one manage their rosterwell, practice, you know, during the game week,
to make sure that hey, listen, we're at the point
where we're taking the pads off and we're walking through.
Speaker 7 (23:58):
But then it's those teams can handle that. Are you
a team that can handle.
Speaker 6 (24:04):
The light workload during the during the regular work week
to be prepared for Sunday? For me, is gonna come
down to that the teams that can master that, because
I can tell you Ben, some guys need to have
that that physical stress on him during the week to
prepare them from the game. And some teams are not
really fashion that way where where you can just lighten
(24:26):
the load and we're gonna walk through everything in them
game day. They who, well, coach, you didn't show that
to us, so we don't know how to defend it.
So it's gonna come down to that part of the season.
I'm really excited to see how this shakes out. I'm
more worried about. I mean, whatever happens this weekend with
with Kansas City in their long run, I've been more
worried about the Charger said, Harball is a guy that
Sean Payton has just never been able to beat.
Speaker 1 (24:47):
He's beat him one time in his entire career. Hasn't
been him at all. With the Denver Broncos, we beat
didn't we beat the Chiefs for Russ? No, No, they
almost did.
Speaker 6 (25:00):
That was the game where Chris Jones picked Russell up
and dumped him on his donut right in front of
the fish and I'm like, where's the flag?
Speaker 7 (25:08):
Where's the flag?
Speaker 1 (25:09):
So I don't my memory we did last year we
beat their backups, like I don't you know, I don't
particularly get that.
Speaker 5 (25:15):
But that that was That was bo Nick's I'm trying
to think that he was at the twenty twenty three season.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
We did.
Speaker 5 (25:18):
We didn't beat Kansas City that year?
Speaker 7 (25:20):
No, I don't think so.
Speaker 5 (25:22):
No, you're right it was twenty twenty three. You're right
with for us?
Speaker 3 (25:25):
Here is that.
Speaker 6 (25:27):
Nine? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (25:28):
Oh you know what?
Speaker 7 (25:29):
Thank you? Secret?
Speaker 6 (25:30):
Right before week that was the infamous game where Russell
said the team came to him and asked him to
change his numbers as far as his injuries settlement.
Speaker 7 (25:40):
There you go, thank you for that.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
I remember, I was.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
I was because I was trying to remember you there's
a Russ had like forty touchdowns in that game. Yeah,
they almost speed him earlier that season too, they lost nineteen.
Speaker 6 (25:53):
Yeah, that's the That's the one I was talking about
when Chris Jones picked him up and dumped him.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
Yeah, we already, but but we beat we beat the
change equal modo a model with Russell's the quarterback.
Speaker 5 (26:02):
We've we've done that before. But I'm more worried about
the Chargers.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
I mean, I get it, we're focused on the Chiefs
this week because it is the Chiefs, and I would
have beat the Chiefs. But even if he's saying long term,
but I'm saying, like, like, if we're if I have
all in the playoffs and the Broncos are probably gonna
make the playoffs at this point, it would be it
would be an absolutely apic collapse at this point for
them not to make the playoffs. They're probably gonna make
the playoffs. I'm looking at at looking around the league,
and I'm like, you know, who's the more dangerous team?
(26:27):
If I'd be the Chargers who we just cast Sean
just cannot beat Jim Harball well.
Speaker 6 (26:31):
And also considering what the game was like when the
Broncos played the Chargers, even though it came down to
a field goal. But the Broncos, I'm sure they probably
love their chances because there there are two plays, two
explosive plays that the Broncos misfighted on, one to call
a sudden and one before that to Marvin mams on
(26:53):
On on a switch route. So the Broncos said, yeah,
we lost that game. We lost about field goal. Yes,
our defense was to a brink. Yeah, offense put our
defense in tough situations.
Speaker 7 (27:05):
But guess what. We felt as though we can move
the ball on the Chargers, and we moved it with
some success.
Speaker 6 (27:11):
We just didn't complete or convert on passes explosive passes.
Speaker 7 (27:16):
That were there and readily available. That's the way they
they came.
Speaker 5 (27:19):
I mean, there's there's certainly some of that.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
You go back to any number of these Chargers games
that look like they've been decided by you know whatever,
But I don't know. And that's one of those things
is I started to watch and look at the schedule
for this week. And I'm like, man, not only are
we worried about our own game, it's time we got
we got an eyeball over there across the across the
division at the Chargers who are nipping at our heels,
And I mean, I would rather have Jacksonville win that game,
(27:41):
have the edge on the tiebreaker for the wildcard for them,
and put them an extra game behind us.
Speaker 6 (27:45):
You'd rather play the Jacksonville Jackson I would absolutely rather
play the Jaguars in the playoffs on the Chargers.
Speaker 7 (27:50):
I'm right there with you.
Speaker 6 (27:51):
But here's where we're coming down to as we get
come down to the wire with you know, teams in
the AMC West, all three teams can't can both the
fact that they can win late games.
Speaker 7 (28:05):
Yeah, they all, they all can. They all feel that confident.
Speaker 6 (28:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
I mean, I'm just looking around at the at the standings. Here,
are there any teams that worry you? I'm not worried
Like I'm not worried about the Steelers. I am worried
about the Bengals or Ravens. I'm not worried about I'm
worried about the Patriots or Bills. I'm worried about Casey
in the charge. I'm not worried about the Jags Texans rematch. Yeah,
kind of worried about that if you have CJ. Stroud
back and said Davis Mills a little worried about that.
Speaker 6 (28:28):
No, No, no one's worried about the Steelers at this
particular point, because I mean they don't really have any
offensive threats outside.
Speaker 7 (28:37):
Of pat final move and DK metcalf that that's about it.
Speaker 6 (28:44):
But I would say if there is a team that
that you would be a little nervous about, it would
be the Patriots.
Speaker 7 (28:52):
In Drake May I still say the Colts, right.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
Because well, yeah, I mean obvious, but you know, but
I just say the obvious answers here is I start
to look around the standings and and and basically the
teams are technically Cincinnati, I guess could.
Speaker 5 (29:05):
Still be in it.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
They got to win OBVIOUSNATI. If they win this weekend
against the Steelers, are right back in it.
Speaker 7 (29:10):
No, no, no, we're on. We're on past Cincinnati. I
mean we were passed.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
Now they win in there four and six, and then
the Pittsburg would be leading the division at five and five,
like they're still in it.
Speaker 5 (29:19):
And Joe Burrow got picked in practice this week.
Speaker 7 (29:21):
It still doesn't make a difference.
Speaker 6 (29:22):
Man, you can have Joe Montana, Joe Burrow, Joe Flacco,
Joe Dirt.
Speaker 7 (29:27):
It doesn't make a difference. Because that Bengals defense that got.
Speaker 5 (29:33):
Awful, I mean they are.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
They've given up three hundred points over the course of
this year, which is by far the worst in the NFL. Joe,
but even close. The closest team that next to that
is like Washington's give up two hundred and eighty. That's
been Joe Burrow's cryptininity. Yeah, the old team.
Speaker 7 (29:48):
This is like Superman.
Speaker 6 (29:48):
Like I tell my is, I said, think about it. Superman,
I mean, he gets a lot of his power from
the sun and you can't shoot him. He blows cole air,
he's got to ladies just come out of his eyes.
But he's allergic to his own hometown. Think about that.
Speaker 5 (30:04):
By the way, just a fascinating statistical anecdote.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
By the way, Cincinnati having given up three hundred points
on the season in nine games, the Houston Texans have
gone to exactly half that one hundred and fifty points
on the season.
Speaker 5 (30:16):
Exactly half.
Speaker 1 (30:18):
That's that's the difference between the best and worst defense
in the league so far. I don't know, a little
worried about it. We've got a few other things we
want to get to. We come back, Broncos Country Night
Backer for this
