Speaker 1 (00:00):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
It is Broncos Country, and I mentioned all Brian Ryan,
Edward Shanna's gott out here.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
We are out here till nine.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Helping those indeed with Kawa's fourth annual food Drive benefiting
Food Bank of the Rockies. Uh, you can come join
us out here, King Soopers at Colorado and Yale.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Don'ty food. We got cash. You know you don't trust
us with your cash.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
We've got a QR code and that is presented by
Redver far As Colora of your GMC Dealers courtesy Acura,
and of course, Ka, why are you the way you are? Look,
I'm just trying to spice it up a little.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
We need to throw in commentary on our read. You
just read it. It's right there. There are notes I've
been putting those. There are putting notes in there. We
don't need notes. You just get to say the thing.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
A note right now that we're gonna go out to
the Ko Comps for a hot light and bring our guy,
Vinie Bettedetto.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
He's the nugget beat right off for the Denver Gazette,
Colorad Springs Gazette out there. I want to talk a
little nuggets. Vinnie.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
How you know tonight, guy, thanks for having me on.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Yeah, absolutely, I'll see the Nuggets uh struggle a little
bit without Nicoliokach able to pull out the win against
the Memphis Grizzlies, though, which I'm all fined to put
the team on his back.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
As we look at this stretch.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Without Joke and of course that last game included, does
this give us confidence that this team is capable or
does he shake our confidence that this team is not
capable without NICOLEA Jokic.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Yeah, I think it comes down to their ability to
get out and run it and make offense easy, because
you know, those those first two games without without Nicola
in New Orleans and the first one in Memphis, it
just felt like everything was was a slog. There wasn't
you know, much movement offense, and it was just kind
of you know, it felt like there were way too
many possessions where it was, uh, you know, get the

(01:37):
ball to Jamal Murray and expect him to create something
out of nothing. But then you looked at last night,
I think it comes down to the you know, the
team's ability to get out on the break and get
easy offense that way.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
What's going on with Dario Sarich and his minutes.

Speaker 4 (01:53):
I really thought that we would see more of him,
especially because Michael Malone tends to like the play vets.
He's average four points per game, averaging sixteen minutes.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
So you've seen a little bit of an uptick without
Joker out there. But are you as surprised as I
am that his minutes have been so sparingly?

Speaker 3 (02:12):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
If you would have asked me at the start of
the season, I thought he would have had a you know,
significantly longer leash than he ended up having early in
the season. And I think it comes down to, uh,
you know, through through five games, they were two and three,
and he wasn't playing very well, and uh, you know,
I just don't think the Nuggets had much patience for

(02:33):
for uh, you know, kind of extending his runway and
letting him figure things out, you know, on the fly,
because it was it was it was pretty rough there
those those first set of games before he kind of
got moved out of the rotation. And as that happened, uh,
you know, the the Nuggets had a five game homestand
that they swept, so it wasn't uh you know, there
wasn't really much reason for them to to tweak anything,

(02:56):
and then you know, I think that's that's probably been
the most encouraging thing about those two games. And this
is that, uh, you know, Dario has seemed more comfortable
and definitely more confident thinking about that that shot he
hit last night that put them up eight with with
thirty seconds to go. So, yeah, if you're a Nuggets fan,
hopefully that's that's the sign of things to come, that
he's kind of he's finding his group.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Now, Yeah, you really, you know, you look at what
he breaks to the table and you're hoping he's an
eight minute of a game guy when Nicole is in
there healthy. We've seen extended minutes from him. We saw
I think over the last couple of games. I mean,
we've seen enough out of him that you you hope
that he can be that guy in the rotation. The
question is, is Michael Malogan opened the rotation up enough
since he you know, he tends to like using seven

(03:35):
eight guys, is he.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
Gonna be one of the eight? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (03:39):
I think most of the nights he probably will. You
look at the first game against Memphis when Zach Edie
was healthy, you know, you look at games like that
teams have, you know, backup centers with that kind of guy,
and I think those nights will probably be those minutes
will go to DeAndre Jordan for the most part, obviously
without Joker and Aaron Gordon they both got to play

(03:59):
that night. But but moving forward, I would expect Dario
uh to be the guy most Knights and and when
teams have a bunch of size in their second unit,
maybe maybe DeAndre Jordan gets the call on those nights.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
How would you grade Russell Westbrooks addition to the Nuggets
so far?

Speaker 4 (04:17):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (04:18):
What are we talking from one to ten?

Speaker 1 (04:19):
A through F however you want to do a bad.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
Okay, well, uh, I'll go be minus. You know, it
feels like for the most part, the uh, the the
effort and the intensity have been there, and it feels
like those are going to be constance, which feels you know,
like a like a big positive for that second unit
who uh you know is kind of gonna need to
get out and run at times. You know, there there

(04:45):
have certainly been low points that that dragged that grade
down a bit, But for the most part, I think
his head has been in the right spot. He hasn't
It doesn't seem like he's, you know, been displeased with
his role or let anything else kind of affect him there.
So I think, you know, you know, things haven't haven't
been perfect, or I don't. I wouldn't say he's you know,
necessarily seated expectations, but I think he's been serviceable.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Dove tailing off that question and real quickly aw on
this show, we used the Joela beat and the cool
Jokic scale and Yolkic being the best, Jolan beat being
the absolute worst thing on earth.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
The League came out there and h and rescinded.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
Westbrook's technical technical fouls the other night. Did they give
a reasoning why?

Speaker 4 (05:25):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (05:26):
Probably because he didn't say anything. I don't know if
uh blairs or glances or stairs or however we wanted
to define that look, Uh can be U penalized that way.
So yeah, you never know what what happened leading up
to that point or if there if there were warnings.
But uh, you know, watching from home, your endeavor that
that seemed pretty ridiculous, and it seemed kind of like

(05:47):
a no brainer that that one would be rescinded.

Speaker 4 (05:50):
I've been really impressed with Christian Brown and the starting lineup.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
I do feel like long.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
Term, though, as we get close to the playoffs, you're
gonna miss him coming off the do you agree, Yeah, in.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
A sense, I think, you know, they're gonna need somebody
in that second unit to to kind of become what
Christian was the last couple of years. And yeah, I
think Peyton Watson's play has been really encouraging left, you know,
since he's kind of gotten to a rhythm after missing
all of the preseason, Julian Strauter is gonna be a
guy who's gonna need to consistently hit shots, yeah, to

(06:26):
make that second unit work. But you know, Christian I
think has just been such a good fit in the
starting lineup. I don't know how much you can really
tweak rotation wise, because I think the only thing that
you could maybe do would be start Peyton Watson there
so you could still have that that perimeter defender. But yeah,
I just feel like, uh, you know, Christian is gonna

(06:49):
be a lot in that starting lineup for as long
as he's playing the way he is right now.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Yeah, that was one I was I was definitely wrong on.
I love I loved him coming off the bench.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
Didn't think he was starter material really thinks, but he
really hass you see, he's really made me look like
an idiot there talking about any Benedetto at V been
not very hard on Twitter.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
He works for the Nuggets beat for the Gazette. Yeah,
it's really not difficult. It's low bar to.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Clear, and yet somehow I limbo under it every single
time as we as we look forward to will join it.
That's just flexible me. The you know, Bellic Corolla wanted
to train me for how flexible I was. I don't
know that many rest the peace I think it was
as we look at this team, I mean, the Nuggets
have been so shorthanded right now. Are Gordon out, You've
had Jamal Murrayo's been a little bang up in the
ice back. You had Nicole out for the personal reasons obviously,

(07:29):
and it's good to see that this team, even if
they haven't won as many games you won in that stretch,
it can be competitive.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
That deep into the rotation.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Does that give you confidence going to the back half
of the season that they're going to pick things up?

Speaker 3 (07:41):
Yeah, and you know the you know, the injuries have
kind of all come at different times, so it does
feel like there's been a very small sample size of
what this team can be when it's fully healthy. I
guess you know the back half of that I'm him
homestand I mentioned earlier was probably the closest look we
got it with this team might look like. But yeah,

(08:02):
I think you know, these things where you kind of
have to try different things is something that can be
really helpful. You know, like, you never know what a
playoff matchup is going to look like. So if there's
a situation where you want to go super small and
you want to throw Russell Westbrook on a Jared Jackson
junior like they did the last couple of nights, I
think those those are really positive experiences to have this

(08:24):
early in the season. You know, obviously, with a little
more help the nugget, they're probably looking at us a
better record than eight and five.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
But yeah, I think the key for this season is to.

Speaker 3 (08:35):
Yeah, I wouldn't put too much emphasis on seating. I
would put more emphasis on being rested and feeling like
you have a whole bunch of answers to a whole
bunch of different questions when the playoffs roll around.

Speaker 4 (08:48):
And the last question I have where you appreciate the time,
man I wanted to kind of sort of toss back
to the remote Shellbourne article as well as even the
one that came out last year with the Ringer and
sort of the I guess the very public disconnect between
the front office and the coaching staff. Does that, in
your mind impact the way we should view the Nuggets

(09:09):
as a championship contender.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
No, I don't.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
I don't think so. I mean, I think as long
as Nikola Jokich is happy here, I think it should
be pretty easy to put a team around him that
that you have a chance. You know, obviously the dynasty
talk has died down a little bit, but looking at
this team right now, I've seen enough to think that, uh,
you know, they're still in that group of contenders. And

(09:37):
and I think, you know, Michael Malone and Calvin Booth
have different job titles and different responsibilities, so they kind
of inherently see things different ways. But I think they're
they're on the same page in that understanding that that
this is a unique opportunity for this franchise and it's
it's you know, their jobs to make the most of
that in their given role. So I think, you know,

(10:00):
I think they could easily, you know, be on the
same page heading into the trade deadline this year, which
could be a good one because you know it immediately
Calvin mentioned that just the team shooting ability is something,
uh you're gonna need to monitor and that you know,
if they needed to make a move, they they would
do it. So yeah, you know, obviously, those those stories,
and I respect the people who wrote them quite a bit,

(10:24):
garnered a lot of attention and opened some eyes. But
you know, I think for the most part, uh, you know,
tell them with the Michael Malone see things similarly enough
to make the most of this run.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
Tako with Vinie bennedetto the Gazette.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
Vinnie, last question for me, and do we have a
timeline for Nicola getting back here.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
We don't.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
You know, Malone's been asked about it and has kind
of stayed with the the company line that you know,
they're they're given joker privacy during this time and you know,
just are are kind of way. I wouldn't be surprised
at all. He plays on Friday, given that it's a
home game and if something you know, does require his

(11:06):
attention immediately, he can you know, be wherever he needs
to beat and you know, ten or fifteen minutes as
opposed to a couple of hours when you're you know,
in New Orleans or Memphis. I think there's a real
shot he plays Friday. But yeah, there's been no real uh,
stated Timeline no Venny.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
We appreciate if Any Benedetto and Vi Benedetto on the
Twitter machine Denver Broncos beat there at the Gazette.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
Appreciate your time tonight. Oh thank that. Yep.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
Well, Rian, what do you think about Yo Kic possibly
being back on Friday.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
I mean, that's great. They are not the same team
without him in a lot of ways.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
It's it's fascinating the correlation when I mean any team
losing their best player. But like I was singing back
to the UH when the Broncos lost passer Tan and
how they they couldn't even play the same kind of
defense they wanted to. They couldn't play nearly as much
man as they wanted too. They had to go more
zone heavy. It just it messed up everything, like and

(12:04):
they had to kind of relearn and figure out what
would life be without Pats Artan. Well, the Nuggets a
kind of in a similar situation here without Nikola Jokics.
The first two games were pretty awful, I mean really awful,
and people are questioning the effort, and they were questioning, well, Malone.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
Being a I never had any problem with Malone missing
for his daughter's volleyball deal.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
Like, I didn't even problem with that.

Speaker 2 (12:23):
But even he didn't show up for the first game,
like he sent Adalman out to coach the team that night.

Speaker 4 (12:27):
Yeah, but again, I think there's a value for me
in giving the assistant coaches those opportunities because you know,
there might be a time he gets double teck and
gets kicked out, or he gets sick and he can't
be there. You want to you want to get that experience.
And I think the experience without Nikola Jokic is a
good thing too. I mean, I for some reason he
can't play in a game, whether it's down the stretcher

(12:50):
in the postseason, you're gonna need to know how we're
going to operate without him, because he is the best
player and everything flows through him. I mean, he's your center,
but he's also in a lot of ways your point guard.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
But it's a stark reminder of what this team isn't.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
Yeah, you know when they don't have them, because as
you see, as we see when the end of the
you know, you're hoping that they continue to build this
thing up because it's a stark reminder of what the
Never Nuggets could be if they did not have Nikola Yokiche.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
And I mean all due respect of any at all
due respect, he is really talented at what he does.

Speaker 4 (13:19):
I'm not as dismissive of the remoter Shelbourne article and
the ringer and the disconnect that that is very public
by the way that their GM Calvin Calvin.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
Thank you, Sorry, it's some cold out here.

Speaker 4 (13:33):
Calvin Booth has basically stated he's he said, he's on
the record saying that Michael Malone doesn't want to play
the young guys, and we're not quite seeing things the
same way. And I do think that that is going
to impact this team. And you saw it this last
year in the postseason, Peyton Watson, for example, being completely
left off many of those games, and you were thinking, well,

(13:54):
this is a guy that's clearly part of your core.
You're going to play him, and then they just stopped
playing him. So I don't I don't know if I
completely agree with that sentiment.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
I think that if Nicola Jokic wanted Malone gone, or
if Nikola Jokic leaves that Malone would be gone.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
I think in both those instances that would be the case.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
But the flip side of that coin is we've seen
coaches in other sports not wanting to play the youth
movement and to their detriment and then playing them the
next year.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
Vance Joseph is that guy, and he might be the
hottest thing going right now.

Speaker 4 (14:22):
What I mean that's an apples to oranges. I mean
whatever you're trying to tie that.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
Joseph doesn't want to play rookies, You just I know.

Speaker 4 (14:29):
But I mean, like, what what you're doing out there
in football with eleven men on the field and then
you do rotate in Uh, it's a little bit different
conversation than your eight man roster in an NBA play.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
I mean, but.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
Conceptually it's the same premise. You got a coach he
doesn't want to play the young guys.

Speaker 4 (14:43):
Okay, But there's not disconnected. It's not like the front
office is saying we need you to play the young
guys to be you.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
Don't have George Payton, Vance, You're gonna put There's no
comparison the game.

Speaker 4 (14:52):
Yeah, there's there's not really a comparison here, But I
see kind of where your brain was going with that.
I just I just think in in terms of them
trying things out right now, it's a good thing, right,
you need.

Speaker 1 (15:04):
To force them to deep the forces you to do that.

Speaker 4 (15:06):
But once again, man, Darius Arts has not been that dude.
I thought he would be able to play a bigger
role here early on and has not happened. And I
thought even with the Koli Yok out he'd play a
bigger role. He's played more minutes, he hasn't had as
much of an impact. You mentioned that ten point game,
it's the best game of the season. Yeah, he's averaging
four points per game for the entirety of the season
so far, and he's only playing sixteen minutes, which again

(15:28):
that's only because he's played like thirty plus minutes in
the last two games, and up till then, he was
a no show for several Yeah.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
Well, we'll see what he's able to contribute. We're twelve
percent of the way through the season. We'll see what
he's able to do.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
As we go.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
We could get some nuggets tuck, and then we come back.
We're gonna talk about why Army's gonna beat Notre Dame
this weekend. Ryan's gonna break that down for you. You
listen to Broncos Country to night right here.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
On Kiawei Broncos Country Tonight. We'll be all right.

Speaker 2 (15:54):
Brian Edwards, Chance scout outside. Grant Smith back at Mission Control.
We appreciate Grant Smith, even if I'm giving him gouff
about not uploading the Taking It for Granted podcast, because
what else am I gonna listen to on the way home.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
I can't listen to some of my voice. I just
can't do it. It's terrible. I don't understand how you
guys listen to it.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
Five six six nine zero is the text. I we're
live down here at the King Soupers at Colorado and Yale.
You still got time to get by up till nine o'clock.
We're helping those in need this Thanksgiving Kaway's fourth annual
food Drive benefiting Food Bank and the Rockies.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
You can donate food cash.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
They've got a QR code that you can use if
you don't have cash on It's presented by Redbird Farms,
Colrabut GMC Dealers courtesy Accura and of course, okay, see Ryan,
I read it without the editorializing. I can read how
hard was that difficult? It was very difficult, very difficult,
very very difficult.

Speaker 1 (16:39):
I could tell. I see the pain on your face
from having to do your job. It did hurt.

Speaker 4 (16:45):
And by the way, I might I suggest heavy amounts
of bourbon if you want to get through this show
in the evening.

Speaker 1 (16:52):
Well, I mean it is a little little cool out. Yeah,
it's part of it, a warm up. Yeah, that's what
I'm saying, and not in any way. It makes it
way more fun and listenable.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
We were I was suggesting vodka with the cranberry pineapple
that I was passing around.

Speaker 1 (17:04):
The other grandt can vouch for how delicious that is,
and I thought that'd be on the nose. Yeah right, see.

Speaker 4 (17:09):
But but I thought if I suggested vodka, you'd play
into the comrade thing a little bit more, you'd like
of course, you suggested vodka.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
Because you're a Russian. You are hard time, not as
the hammer and sharp as the sick of the crosses.

Speaker 4 (17:19):
He once again, I'm not any there is no lineage
of Russian anything.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
And the fact that you know the red tablecloth This
was not my suggestion. I believe it was right. Edward
stem comrads.

Speaker 4 (17:31):
See, we had somebody to call in during Broncos react
all you comrade, like good.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
Evening, comrade, And how that has that is stuck.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
Over like of all the things that has stuck, that
bizarre thing is stuck. And it all stems from you
not liking the original Top Gun. That's where it originated.

Speaker 1 (17:47):
Again, not liking is very strong. You sided with the
Russians in that movie. I'll never know. Well if somebody
had to be empathetic for him. But more than anything,
it's it's just as overrated. That's all. My god. It
doesn't hold up. It doesn't hold up from what was.
Ryan only watches it for the beach now.

Speaker 4 (18:03):
I will say that if if Tom Cruise wanted to
recreate it like Top Gun Maverick as Lex Grossman, that
I would be.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
Here, white, steep, fensive character. You would be here for
thistic thunder.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
I don't think that could get made now, of course,
that's how far that movie could not get made now.

Speaker 4 (18:23):
As less Grossman, if he decided to redo the next
Top Gun and it was less Age, he.

Speaker 1 (18:31):
Might be that by the next time.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
By the time this last misson impossible gets out.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
As long as he gets to still run, that's all
that matters. Tom, Tom Cruise running.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
Has to run it every movie movie, So it's a
cotractually allbligated. We're running to the college football playoffs here, see, you,
buffs are the road is paved. If they just got
to win out to get to the Big twelve championshipmendous
segue and get on in. And that's how I do,
just just a pivot right there that everybody in the
biz salivates over.

Speaker 1 (18:54):
Call it a pivot in the business. You'll figure it out.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
I know I joked about arm earlier, but they are
taking on Notre Dame, and if they do win that game,
miracle of miracles, fourteen and a half point dogs.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
Right now, they're not gonna win. You know, you never know.
They're not gonna win.

Speaker 2 (19:07):
And then what you said about appolation and stayed against Michigan,
I don't think I said that.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
I think you did it. I'm gonna make up that
you did and hope that it sticks.

Speaker 4 (19:15):
I know.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
But I mean, looking at this college football playoff things
so far, is there anything that that jumps out at
you is as Wow, I'm glad that team is there,
or this team I thought was gonna be there or isn't.
I mean, we're still a little ways out, but we
can start to see this thing taking shape.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
I mean, he add is a fun story there to
go back in the story.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
You as a Heisman voter is just Kevin Rourke and
your h is not Wow, just leaving them off, just
absolutely let me guess you're a Dylan Gabriel fan.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
They I'm not, don't. How dare you, sir?

Speaker 4 (19:44):
I will leave this second Gabriel No, Dylan Gabriel fan,
if you would say that one more time.

Speaker 1 (19:50):
No, No, Actually I really thought they were gonna lose
to Wisconsin. I yeah, well, man, I was. I was
sitting there going like, should I throw a bat on
this thing?

Speaker 4 (19:56):
Because Wisconsin had him on the ropes and then let
them off, let them off the hook. But they they
made number one. But I think that's in absence of
anybody else really being in that kind of conversation. But no,
I I'd say Indiana is one of these stories so far.
Now they got Ohio State this week, and that's that's
gonna be tough.

Speaker 1 (20:17):
But we'll say if they can put up a fight.

Speaker 2 (20:19):
You know, we'll see they have a chance to make
their case, you know, and that to me, I'm glad
that they do, because there have been teams that have
been undefeated over the years that have not had a
chance to make their case. They've been left out, you know,
Central Florida a few years ago. I love the fact
that India at least gets to earn it on the field,
as opposed to some of these others in our army
as well, you know, my beloved Army Black Knights getting

(20:39):
the take on Notre Data.

Speaker 1 (20:40):
It's stranger things that Northern Illinois beat them earlier this year.

Speaker 4 (20:43):
There are things that you lean on that suddenly become
the most interesting thing. And I still it defies logic and.

Speaker 2 (20:51):
It's the most highest rated watched game just because I
keep hammering it.

Speaker 1 (20:54):
The only reason that I think that you're into this
as much as you are is because it's a type
of well you like to play god. It's really the
only thing I could think.

Speaker 2 (21:05):
Of that It's like, I mean, there's obviously was in
the army, you know, well there's that kind of thing,
there's that that connection, but that's not why, like you're
doing this because it's like, you know what I want.

Speaker 1 (21:13):
I want to stick up for a team that likes
to play video games, like the way I like to
play play football, the way I play video games.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
This team put together a thirteen minute, forty nine second
I saw a four yard touchdown drive.

Speaker 1 (21:25):
And you send it to everybody that you knew everyone.
I knew it was. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:29):
I mean I had Christmas cards, pat posters in my
room already on the ceiling.

Speaker 1 (21:35):
I already know. It's just those numbers. Oh, every morning
you wake up in the mirror, you get in there
and make it about you. I was like, six zero
is the is the text? Like, yeah, ad as the story.
That's that's the story. Let see who could get there?
And I see that another story here.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
The biggest test for them is going to be this weekend. Kansas,
and I've said that for weeks. Kansas is playing much
much better football than they were before they started the season.
They were two point loss to Case State at Kansas State,
only loss they've had in their last four. They were
playing much better. They're playing the kind of football everybody
expected to play at.

Speaker 1 (22:11):
The beginning of the season.

Speaker 2 (22:13):
I don't think that this is a pushover to In fact,
I think it's a much tougher opponent than Utah, and
people were sweating in Utah before the Utah game.

Speaker 4 (22:19):
I'm one hundred percent with you, and this is one
for me that I've had circled for at least at
least a month and a half.

Speaker 1 (22:25):
Because I was like, you know, Kansas they're not a
good team, but they have a.

Speaker 4 (22:29):
Good offense, and they play everybody tough. And you saw
they've got they've got some and they have even playing
tough and soup preston wins. Obviously, this last week against
BYU got to Iowa State win. I mean, they've they've
been sort of stringing together and they played Kansas State tough.

Speaker 1 (22:43):
For me, it is like a two point loss.

Speaker 4 (22:45):
Yeah, So I keep looking at that game and saying,
don't let everything you've done up to this point be
for nothing, because if you lose to Kansas, it is.

Speaker 2 (22:55):
And it's funny because everybody was sweating the BYU game,
you know, two three weeks ago when we were looking
at this thing and everybody, I'm like, man, Kansas is
the one you need to be sweat and not BYU.
And so you know, you look at this it's one.
I'm a little nervous about this one.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
I am.

Speaker 1 (23:08):
I mean, then I say, it's not all I said,
it's all over.

Speaker 4 (23:10):
It's not really because you could catch some breaks, but
you don't control your desk.

Speaker 2 (23:15):
Yeah, you no longer control your destiny. And that's so vital,
especially when when all this kind of stuff happens. If
it does happen, they do win. Now we're talking about
see you potentially hosting a home game in the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (23:26):
They win this thing out, that's it.

Speaker 4 (23:28):
And and it's amazing because you got to imagine for
college football playoff they want to see you in this thing.
I mean, you're talking absolutely one for the lady talking
about the Heisman winner Travis Hunter in there. Sure, Sanders Prime,
I mean, come on, like days are all privately, they're like.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
There's sixteen right now. They keep inching them up, but they're.

Speaker 4 (23:46):
Not, you know, they're they're making it not too obvious
because off all of a sudden they had this massive
jump to like fourteen or thirteen.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
They never might be whining about it. That's right.

Speaker 4 (23:54):
So you're doing the right thing. If you're CFP, you're
not you're not just vaulting them into it. Because we
all know what really matters is they make it to
the Big Built Championship. Now, if they lose the Big
Twelve Championship, somehow.

Speaker 1 (24:06):
They're still gonna be in.

Speaker 2 (24:07):
I still think they're gonna be out and lose that
that they're still gonna find a way to put them
in there.

Speaker 1 (24:10):
To think it's ratings gold, there's no way here not.
I think so too.

Speaker 4 (24:14):
But but the only thing that gives me pause is
I don't think the Big Twelve is necessarily very good
this year, and so will that hurt see you a
little bit because they did.

Speaker 2 (24:24):
Lose to what was I think anyone else? I think
CEU is in on the virtue of the things we
just talked about. Travis Hunter's probably gonna win the Heisman,
Shi Order, Sanders and Prime and you know how it
is like they drive revenue and ratings. They do see
you drive whatever you think about them, overall, they drive
revenue and ratings.

Speaker 1 (24:39):
You're tuning in to watch it. We've seen the results
of this.

Speaker 4 (24:42):
It's just with the Big Twelve being quote unquote down
this year because at one time Kansas State was the
best team and they're obviously not that anymore. BYU has
sort of because they were undefeated until this last weekend,
had sort of taken on the mantle.

Speaker 1 (24:54):
But they're not a they're not a great team.

Speaker 4 (24:56):
They're they're sort of surviving by some luck game and
you know, perfect example, right, I mean, they shouldn't have
won that game.

Speaker 1 (25:03):
You knew it was coming out that.

Speaker 2 (25:04):
As soon as you watch that, you knew it was
kind of coming crashing down. It's sort of the Kansas
City Chiefs thing, right, as soon as you saw the
way they beat that, you knew it.

Speaker 1 (25:09):
Was coming crashing down. Sure enough, Buffalo comes in the
next week and puts.

Speaker 4 (25:13):
It by the Kansas City and we can take a
look at their schedule. At some point they have some
more losses. I think on the horizon we'll see. I mean,
they're still going to win the division. And but it
wouldn't surprise me if they don't have the one seed,
if they don't have to buy that wouldn't suddenly sun me.
If if Buffalo continues to if the Bills, sorry, if
the Bills continue to play up to the level, if
they can.

Speaker 1 (25:33):
But coming back to see you, I'm with you.

Speaker 4 (25:36):
I think they make the Big twelve championship and they're
in like that day, they just get kind of you
just have to make it there, which still proves the point, right,
I mean, you started out the season the way you did,
you went on this unbelievable run, you closed out the
season on however many win streak that ends up being
you're eleven and what or yeah, you'd be ten and
two at that point with the opportunity to go over

(25:58):
to eleven if you win this one and again if
they're playing in YU.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
Now Arizona State's fascinating.

Speaker 4 (26:04):
Arizona State has a chance because Arizona State's playing BYU
this weekend, and if Arizona State wins that game, they're in,
they're gonna be in the.

Speaker 1 (26:11):
Big World twelve Championship. And so you see you in
Arizona State.

Speaker 2 (26:14):
And that which Kenny Dillingham, by the way, oh my goodness,
what a great coach God lives.

Speaker 4 (26:19):
Give some love to Kenny Dillingham, because he, along with
Coach Prime Or picked to be two of the worst
coaches right and worst teams in all the Big Twelve
and all college football. And here you are having maybe
two of them in the Big Twelve Championship. I want
to see it for the chaos, especially for all the
think pieces that came out before the season about how

(26:39):
terrible these two teams are going to be.

Speaker 2 (26:41):
What's the fringe team that you most want in the playoffs? Mean,
I obviously we know from me, what is the fringe
team at this point that you would love to see
make the college football playoffs just for the you know,
just for the cause.

Speaker 1 (26:53):
You're talking about the chaos factor here?

Speaker 2 (26:55):
Oh yeah, yeah, you know, I mean and the no, no, no,
don't put Tulane on there or anything.

Speaker 1 (26:58):
I don't want to hear that.

Speaker 2 (27:00):
But what kind of what kind of fringe team as
you look at the UH as you look at the
playoffs standings right now, do you do you want in
there to.

Speaker 1 (27:05):
Throw a dynamite in the fish tank? Oh? Man, give
me a second here, I gotta I gotta call the
stand I mean obviously we know for me that's Army.

Speaker 4 (27:11):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (27:11):
I didn't again for for multiple reasons.

Speaker 2 (27:13):
It's not just the you know that they like we
make the video game joke, but really is you know,
I've always rooted for Army.

Speaker 1 (27:18):
It's just there. You know, they've been a service academy,
and they've been so bad for so long.

Speaker 2 (27:21):
Then right now, you've got an undefeated service academy who can't,
by the way, use nil money like any of these
other schools. I would love to see them in the
playoffs and maybe make a little hay well.

Speaker 1 (27:30):
I will say, Arizona State's interesting to me right that
South Carolina? Maybe South Carolina could be froggy little nooy.
I understand it.

Speaker 2 (27:40):
Is there any team that jumps out that you want
to see in there? And for and for whatever reason,
you know, I Boise just because Janty.

Speaker 1 (27:47):
I mean, they don't throw again.

Speaker 4 (27:48):
Don't throw anything at me. But I kind of like
Missouri a little bit. Luther Burden there is gonna be
a first round wide receiver.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
Might be a Bronco. He might be a Bronco.

Speaker 4 (27:57):
There's something interesting about them on the offensive side of
the ball. They're seven and three, They got some they
got some stuff to make up here, and especially because
the SEC is already pretty pretty packed in there. Although
if you look at the latest CFP rankings, yeah, the
SEC is the back half of the rankings.

Speaker 1 (28:13):
Like they are not the top tier of this group.
It's the Big ten. The Big Ten is the conference
right now.

Speaker 4 (28:19):
So that for me, we'll see who ends up winning
the SEC because they're gonna get a bye, right, so
on and so forth. But all of a sudden, it's
like I remember reading an article last week that was
projecting like, hey man, the Georgia team might end up
being kind of in trouble.

Speaker 1 (28:37):
Now I don't think that's actually gonna happen.

Speaker 4 (28:38):
I think Georgia like if you're seeing coulg football playoff,
you leave Georgia out for crying out like what do
we do?

Speaker 1 (28:43):
What are we doing here? A? We're doing here? But
that's the thing, like can a Boise State who.

Speaker 4 (28:48):
Wins the Mountain West kick out one of these SEC
teams that would and should when they could win a championship.
But it's like, well, hey, they won the Mountain West,
and now Boise State kind.

Speaker 2 (28:59):
Of has to be in right and I would like
to see because I'd like to see Jant going up
against a real defense at some point.

Speaker 1 (29:04):
Just be fine. It's a it's a good oregonary.

Speaker 2 (29:07):
You get the one, you know, I mean, But still
uh un l V is probably the other team I think.
And that's that's because it's a fascinating story.

Speaker 1 (29:13):
You had your.

Speaker 2 (29:13):
Quarterback quit saying that quit on his team, saying that
there was ni l you know the chaos. Well yeah,
of course, but maybe think about it. UNV is a
team that's they're in that they're in that edge, that periphery.
But you know, the quarterback quit on the team and
claim that the nil money that was owed to him,
and then you know, the team pushed back and then
all a suddeny rally around the new quarterback who comes

(29:35):
out and you're like, wait, why wasn't this guy starting?

Speaker 1 (29:36):
He's better?

Speaker 4 (29:37):
But again, right now it's C s U and UH
and in Boise State that are going to be in
the West Championship.

Speaker 1 (29:42):
So yes, he somehow wins. What do we Yeah, you
know that's a funny thing.

Speaker 4 (29:46):
I saw some people talking about that on Twitter today
and I'm kind of like, Okay, I think it's fun.

Speaker 1 (29:50):
And as a csue A love just to about your hope.

Speaker 4 (29:52):
There's absolutely no way they're gonna be Yeah, there's a yeah,
don't don't give.

Speaker 1 (29:56):
Me hope, you know, because don't don't you do it
to me. Don't do it to me. There's absolutely no way.

Speaker 4 (30:02):
Like like Boise State makes some sense because Ashton Jenny's
gonna be a finalist, for the Heisman and that that
story right there is what it is.

Speaker 1 (30:08):
And they've had some some Listen, going toe to toe.

Speaker 4 (30:11):
Against organ earlier in the year was amazing, Like I
have so much credit to Boise State, but but again,
they're playing the Mountain West. They're gonna get boat raced
by most of these teams, and CSU as good as
a story, and I love the way they're closing for me,
beating Wyoming, winning the Border War, getting the golden boot
back or the bronze boots sorry back at home, and

(30:31):
for Collins, that was enough for me, Like I at
this point, hey, you're gonna go to that West championship game.
If you can make that, that's pretty flipping cool. You're
probably gonna get killed by Boise State.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
But but again, as a CSU ram fant for mediocrity,
I'm good. I am good. I'm not greedy. You won
the Wyoming game.

Speaker 4 (30:50):
They haven't beaten Wyoming very much in the last decade,
Like they had one win cig. I know they're one
win of the last decade against against Wyoming. So for me,
that was that was it real quick heisman. I mean,
some people may not know you are a Heisman voter.
I try to thump that at every opetunity.

Speaker 1 (31:06):
I don't know, why, why do you have to bring
that up?

Speaker 2 (31:08):
It looks like a two man race between jantea Hunter, really,
But it's interesting as I pull people for the third name,
because you do get a lot of camp Wards and
Dylan Gabriels, And I asked, why not Rourke? We talked
about him earlier? Why not Diego Pavia down there at Vanderbilt?

Speaker 1 (31:20):
Why not?

Speaker 2 (31:21):
Why not somebody who is elevating a program so far
above where they were?

Speaker 1 (31:25):
Why not one of those names?

Speaker 2 (31:27):
Who are some other names you think would be on
the periphery of your your ballot if you, oh wait,
you do have one.

Speaker 4 (31:33):
Well, I'm not actually allowed to talk about the ballot,
so for what it's worthing pathetically, yeah, even even hypothetically,
like just if I.

Speaker 2 (31:41):
Were a Heisman voter, you were trying to talk me
into some I tried, folks. I tried to get his
I tried to get his stuff on there. But I
guess say, yeah, there.

Speaker 4 (31:49):
Was a moment there where I thought either Cam Warrior
Jalen Milroe could make things interesting. Uh, just because of
the level of competition that they play and it would
be weird for me, just hypothetically, it'd be weird for
me to have a ballot where you have a wide
receiver running back and no quarterback like that that feels,
I know, it's the best player. Embrace the chaos, and

(32:11):
Travis Hunter is gonna He's gonna be probably the Heisman winner.
I'm not predicting it officially, but I'm just saying that
he's gonna be in the top two for almost everybody's
votes and probably get enough first place votes.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
To be there. Ashley Edni still some time to make
this thing up.

Speaker 4 (32:25):
If he breaks Berry Sanders records, some people might might
look at that and feel differently about it, but who knows.
But it would be weird for most people to put
a ballot together and leave one of these quarterbacks off.
That's what I wanna say.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
Well, we'll see how it goes.

Speaker 2 (32:37):
We'll see how Ryan's votes will get his public ballot
out there, and we'll burn him the effig first doing
the wrong thing.

Speaker 1 (32:42):
