Speaker 1 (00:00):
Victory Tuesday Here Benjamin Olbright Grant Smith five six six
nine zero is the text line. Especially thanks to the
Hall of Famer Steve Atwater for joining us in the
last segment. Always love having Steve in man, and one
of the one of these days, man, we gotta get
cameras in here during the break because the conversations that
that we have during the break where we're just cutting
each other up. If I feel like if we could

(00:22):
just get that stuff on the air. Sometimes some of
it's a little it maybe a little to profane for
on the air, but otherwise it's it is hilarious and
I wish you guys could be privy to some of that.
So one of the days I'm gonna get some cameras
in here. We'll we'll get all that kind of stuff
for you guys. U celebrating I believe an anniversary tonight,
we're gonna go right out to the kaw Comspath hotline

(00:42):
and bringing our guy Ryan Michael at the Ryan Michael
on Twitter and Blue Sky. By the way, if you're
on Blue Sky, does that does that are we Skywalker's
at that point? Is that what that makes us? I
don't know what you call people like that. Ryan, Happy
one year anniversary of bct Buddy, appreciate Do we have
Ryan there? I did not? Yeah, a bad connection there, Ryan.
Let's h you know, maybe Sarry, I hear you. Okay,

(01:04):
you were coming in a little cut up on our side. Yeah,
one year. Happy one year anniversary here at the Broncos
Country to night.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Sir, I have five that would have been a year already.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
It does. The days stay long, but the years get
quicker the older we get. Last night's win over the
Broncos packed full of numbers. I'm sure I shared a
number I had earlier in that sixteen percent of Jerry
Judy's entire NFL career production is coming the last thirty
six days. That is a staggering number to me, especially

(01:32):
since he's been in the year for five being in
the league for five years. I think game was packed
full of numbers for both football teams. You referred to
it on Twitter as an instant classic. What are some
of your favorite numbers from the Monday night football matchup?

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Yeah? I think well, Bulldop Cherry Judy obviously nine catches,
two hundred and thirty five yards and a touchdown. The
heck of a game, heck of a game. So yeah,
there's context. Right, He's not going again TVs that are
one hundred percent. But you know what I did was
I looked to what he did with us last year
because I know it's been the sentiment where was all

(02:05):
of this production last year? And if you cherry picked
the seven lowest production games of last year, those seven
games combined one hundred and ninety five yards two thirty
five and one game you hate to see it, but
we won, so I can give him a little bit
of love there. One of my favorite stats from last
night was Nick Benito joining the seventy plus yard interceptions.

(02:26):
He became the third linebacker in Broncos franchise history to
bring it back seventy or more yards. He had seventy
one yards, joining Tom Jackson and Randy Gratischer. So elite
company for sure bnicks. You know, listen, one touchdown, two picks.
That's not the touchdown interception ratio he looked to. But
he had two passes that really got cut off, I

(02:48):
think with the one or two yards of the end zone.
So eight point four yards per passing attempt, the second
highest mark his young pro career, and once again took
zero sacks, and I think it's something that you and
I have been excited about going all the way back
to the preseason in terms of his ability to avoid sacks,
and the offensive line is making that easier. He's throwing

(03:10):
four hundred and thirty four passes so far this year,
so I did a little bit of digging into the
history books. Amongst rookie quarterbacks with four hundred and thirty
four or more passes, he has the fourth best, meaning
the lowest sack percentage.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
Of all time.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Number one, won't surprise anybody, paid Manning at three point
sixty nine percent. Number two Matt Ryan three point seven
to seven percent. I hate to give you any kind
of credit then, but your preseason comfort bone. Next Derek
Carr number three, great sack avoidance his rookie year, three
point eighty five percent. We got both and four point
one nine percent.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Fascinating. By the way, the top five quarterbacks who have
met the threshold for a minimum number of dropbacks in
sack percentage. Bow is fifth at four point one nine percent,
but the four below that are Cooper Rush, Josh Allen,
Jordan Love, and number one in the league by far
Derek Carr.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
Yeah, I mean, sacks is a skill, and if we're
looking at quarterbacks that really played a full season, though,
Nicks is really second only to Josh Allen, who's part
of the MVP conversation. So for a guy who took
sacks and I think one point one percent of his
drawbacks in his final year in Oregon, we're certainly seeing
that translate to the NFL level. The last I had
for the top five, and in the stats from last night,

(04:20):
Jamis Winston four hundred and ninety seven passing yards. That
is a Cleveland Browns franchise record they've been around since
nineteen forty six. But the much cooler half of that
stat is one hundred and seventy one negative yards meaning
interception return yards. So it is the epidity of a
Tamos Winston game. Still an underrated overall performance, I think

(04:42):
that his good outweighs the bad. It's hard to overlook
the bad sometimes, but three hundred and twenty six total
passing yard to be subtracted for one seventy one that
our guys bought back.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Yeah, three hundred and twenty six yards would still be
a big day that even if you didn't have the
gaudy one hundred and seventy one interception return yards against
you is a fantastic number there. I find that to
be fascinating. Talking about Ryan Michael d Ryan Michael on Twitter,
We're heading into the bye week, and you know, I
was talking with Steve and I say that this is
the most important game for the Denver Broncos coming up,

(05:12):
because if you get the one game edge on the Colts,
the tiebreaker there the Colts who have a very very
easy schedule after the Broncos. The Broncos have a very
difficult schedule after the Colts. It lends to your percentage
going through the roof in terms of actually making the playoffs.
This might be the most important game for the Broncos
honestly since the Super Bowl run. But we're headed into
the bye week. How is this team? How does this

(05:33):
team stack up to previous Broncos units in terms of
where they are at the buye.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
You know, it's far and away the best we've seen
over the last seven years. But if we dial it
back to the post Super Bowl fifty era in twenty sixteen,
we started off seven and three pretty good, then went
two and four down the stretch, so we finished the
year at nine and seven. The next year started off
three and one pretty good. Then we lose eight games
in a row. We finished the season five and eleven,

(06:00):
so that's no good. And since then it's been ugly
in twenty eighteen, three and six, before to buy, twenty nineteen,
three and six, twenty twenty one, three, twenty twenty one,
five and five, and we've been three and five heading
into the buy over the last two years. So I
know we talked about it a little bit during the
offseason in terms of the hot start, cold finishes Sean

(06:21):
Paydon had in New Orleans. So we're hoping that doesn't rear.
It's ugly had we have to be fair to Sean.
It's going to be a very difficult schedule down the stretch.
But I agree with you that game in Indianapolis, it's
going to be the most important game this franchise has
played since we were contending for a Super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
It's fascinating too, because both teams are actually on the
buy this week. You look at the Colts there on
the by, Broncos on the by. This is this is
an absolutely fascinating matchup. It is it is absolutely the
most important game played in Denver since the Super Bowl run.
And what a turnaround this team said, I did not
realize we had not had a winning record going into
the by since twenty seventeen. That is a staggeringly long time.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
Yeah, it feels like it's been an absolute eternity. But
in my view, then we're having it at the optimal time.
I've always been of the mind where you'd rather have
a bye week a little bit towards the end of
the year versus early in the year, because we have
all the momentum in the world. We're coming off of
the buy against in my opinion, a very beatable opponent,
and you know, if we win nine, and certainly if
we somehow are able to get a tenth win, we

(07:18):
have a very realistic shot at making the postseason. And
if I were Kansas City, I'd be nervous of us
in the season finale. We'll see if Pat Mahomes and
their starters even play a full game there. But it's
going to be an exciting stretch to close at the
season no matter what happens.

Speaker 4 (07:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
Really, well, talking with Ryan Michael at the Ryan Michael, Ryan,
you might be the president of the Sean Payton hate club,
which you know, ironically, I think everybody in Denver somehow
thinks I founded if that club existed, but not necessarily true.
Our listeners, though, might be a little bit surprised. I
know what you and I texted about earlier. You think
Sean Payton might even be a head Coach of the

(07:52):
Year candidates say it, and so you.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
Know you got to give the devil as due And
I mean that purely as a figure of speech. I've
been rooting. I've been everybody said last week, nobody's a
bigger Sean Payton fan than me because it's a lot
more fun to cover the team when we're winning. And
despite what you told Steve earlier tonight, you can say
you're not a Broncos fan, and I believe you. But
when when we're working for the flagship station of the
Denver Broncos, we all have a vested interest in this

(08:17):
team paid successful. So when you see what Sean Payton
has done to this point, let's let's check off the
boxes in terms of what we would agree on what
we can give him credit on. You've mentioned the change
in culture similar to what John Fox brought to the table,
when he came here a decade ago. You know, Sean
Payton was almost arrogant to the point of doubling down
on bonis the idea we understand quarterbacks here than everybody.

(08:40):
And not that Sean Payton would ask for my opinion,
but I was right there with him. I had Bose
the second best quarterback on my draft board. So I'm
kind of proud to be in the minority with Sean
Payton in terms of holding Bonicke in that high regard
before the season even started. But if we're being honest,
this is a team that was projected to win five
or six games. At five and a half is the
over nder. We have eight already and I think a

(09:02):
very realistic shot at winning eight or nine, and when
you factor in the salary cap hell, and the fact
that we didn't make any tremendous splashes in free agency,
if we drafted very well, and there's still some players
that I think are going to end up proving their
values next year. So those are long term draft picks
counters this year. Listen to the Broncos are a team

(09:24):
that have been winning with defense. We're still third in
the league and points per games surrendered we're thirteenth scoring.
We have four defensive touchdowns, so we'll say the offense
is closer to the league average. But you look at
what we have in the backfield, you look at what
we have collectively amongst the skill position players, and what
bo has done and winning with his legs and winning
with his arm. You've got to give a lot of
credit to Sean Payton, and I feel every week, if

(09:46):
the team continues to be more and more successful, I'm
here to give him that credit. I know we talked
about earlier on the show when his resume looked like
outside of Drew Brees, that's very true. This is the
first time he's really had a quarterback of this choice.
So far it's looking very good. So you know, let's
take our hat off for Sean. Daytons is a great
spot to be in thirteen games into the.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
Year, certainly better than the pundits, the sportsbooks especially had
projected everybody had. The sports books had the Broncos at
five and a half wins, which I felt was ludicrously low.
There were two bets I told everybody to make it
with the you know, the Denver Ruckles win towed over
and the Bonix passing a yardage over Bowe, he's eight
more yards to hit that. He'll hit that against Indianapolis.

(10:28):
As we look forward to this matchup against Indianapolis, you
got another quarterback on the other side that's young, growing
and learning things, doing it sort of in the in
the opposite way of bone the x. Anthony Richardson. A
lot of it has to do with his legs. Tebow asked.
Numbers really a forty seven point four completion percentage, seven touchdowns,
nine picks on the season. He does lead the NFL
in yards per completion at fourteen point eight, A lot

(10:50):
of deep ball stuff. How concerned are we about Anthony Richardson?
How concerned are we if we don't have Riley Boss.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
Yeah, I think that we should be concerned because we
saw what happened during something of a soft run against
Jameis Winston, and I look at Jamis Winston in terms
of his proficiency delivering the deed ball is a much
more refined version. Well, Anthony Richardson does. Is the fascinating
thing about Richardson, Like you said, he leads the league
in yards for completion at fourteen point eight, which is

(11:19):
a tremendous tremendous number. Its far and away first place
in the league, but he's dead lasting completion percentage by
some distance as well. Forty seven percent is attempt to go.
Number second to last is Bryce Young at fifty nine
point four. So listen, we're looking to get healthier down
in the stretch and we're probably realistically not going to

(11:39):
be one hundred percent some our game against Indianapolis. But
to be honest, you don't want to take any kind
of game or win for granted. But I'm not afraid
of the Indianapolis culture.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
Talking with Ryan Michael at the Ryan Michael on paper,
I'm certainly not. I mean, if you look at the
offense that they have, yeah, it doesn't really strike fear.
But is one of those things where this is a
big game for a very young football team, Roco's third
youngest roster in the NFL. They went ahead and waived
Josh Reynolds today, the wide receiver who it was productive

(12:11):
earlier in the year but obviously hasn't really seen the
field since the injury and gone from there. As we
look forward to this game, do now that Josh Reynolds
is not in the picture, does this solidify to Von velay,
does this vidify perhaps Courtland Sutton sticking around beyond this year,
were working the contract, you know? And what does this

(12:32):
say about some of the other guys Marvin Mims and
Troy Franklin and little Jordan Humphrey who they love for
the run game?

Speaker 2 (12:39):
You know, I think the collective talent that we have
in our receiving court. Of course, Courtland Sutton is far
away are number one. And if you look at what
he's been doing over the last seven games, you look
at the efficiency we're getting when we're throwing in his
direction seven games in a row, then where we have
a passer rating produced when targeting him of one hundred
are higher. Dating back to the loss against the Chargers,

(13:03):
he had one hundred in terms of passer rating when
targeted one hundred and thirty four, one hundred point six,
one hundred, eleven point two, one twenty seven point one,
one of seven point thirty one forty six point seven,
one of four point nine. The numbers specifically don't really matter.
What you're hearing is just a whole hell of a
lot of good. So if he's building a tremendous momentum,
kind of being cut a little bit of the mold

(13:23):
of what Michael Thomas was for Drew Brees with a
little bit more yard death of the catch ability. You know,
there's going to be circling duty in terms of who's
going to be that wide receiver Emergury So for me,
Bele is that guy. But Mems, you know, we've seen
his big play ability and eventually Troy Franklin will get
in on that as well. We don't have a bona

(13:43):
fide stud at wide receiver too, But again, I think
that's part of the beauty of what Sean Payton has
got out of this roster because we've done everything we
can with the resources that we have, and I mean
that with the as the highest compliment. The team is
playing like a true football team, and when players numbers
are being called, they're really delivering in some big spots.
I'm excited about the momentum we have.

Speaker 1 (14:04):
Moving forward, looking forward to it we get next week.
Obviously we get the bye week this week, but next
week I want to kind of dive into the numbers
and see the areas where the Broncos could have an
advantage against the Colts going into that game. But for now,
we get to celebrate a victory Tuesday. Let that victory
linger for the better part of two weeks as we
get the bye weekend between Ryan. We appreciate it as

(14:25):
always always a pleasure. Ben Absolutely take care, Ryan Michael.
Let you Ryan Michael celebrating one year with VC team.
We love having him on to go inside the numbers.
We come back. Our good friend Roby Bean's gonna join us.
Swus to Broncos Country Night here. Okay, way, I know
I'm better than this.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
I know. I'm like, I'm just praying for the Lord
to deliver me from pick sixes.

Speaker 1 (14:45):
Quick throw outside.

Speaker 4 (14:46):
The ball is intercepted, intercepted by the Broncos down the
east sideline.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
This is going to be a house call. That is
j Kwon McMillan. Winston takes a snap, protection is good
with a three man rush. He throws the.

Speaker 4 (15:01):
Balls atercepted, intercepted, thirty five.

Speaker 1 (15:04):
It's gonna be a.

Speaker 4 (15:04):
House call down the sideline thirty twenty five, twenty fifteen,
ten five touchdown.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
That is Nick Benito. I call him Cosabinido because he
explodes right through you. Welcome back to Broncos Country Tonight,
Benjamin Olbright grad Smith here with you. Five six sixty
nine zero is the text line. Guys, we'll get involved
in the conversation. Let's go right out to the kay
Commis Trail hotline though, and bring on our good friend
from CBS, romy Beanrome. How you doing this evening?

Speaker 2 (15:31):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (15:31):
Do it great? You know. I gotta give a shout
out to Jameis Winston. Guys, like, is he not the
most likable player in the league? Look not like this guy?

Speaker 1 (15:40):
Yeah, his character. I was down there on a Brown
sideline pregame watching him talk up the offensive line, and
you know, sometimes you think guys like that are just
having it up for the cameras. Now he's that dude
all the time. Although I would give him some advice
because if he's praying to the Lord to deliver him
from pick six, if that hasn't worked, maybe he needs
to try praying to the other guy at this point.

Speaker 3 (15:58):
Yeah, you know, I don't know, you know, I don't
know how that works. But either way, just twelve out
of ten of the personality the personality.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
Oh, speaking of personalities, former Denver Bronco Jerry Judy talked
all of that mess all week and then put it
to the Broncos on the field. But it wasn't enough
two out of thirty five yards to a touchdown as
an absolute monster of a game. Sixteen percent of Jerry
Judy's entire NFL production has come in the last thirty
six days, but he still gets sent home with a

(16:29):
loss in this one. What a victory for the Denver Broncos,
and man, they are energized going into the bye week
and probably what is the most important game in Denver
prior to the Super Bowl fifty run up with the
Cults coming up.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
It's unbelievable to think about where this team is at
right now, eight and five heading into the by you know,
they're going into this game. I was looking at seven
and five, and there's been a couple of times in
the past few years that they were kind of at
that at that point, are they going to go up
or down? We saw it in the Big Fangio era,

(17:04):
you know, and we kind of even thought last year too,
right where then everything kind of went downhill and fell
off the wagon, if you will. Then they won seven
and six, and they went seven and seven, right, and
so the last time I think the Broncos not positive.
I think they've been eight and five maybe twice since
the Super Bowl fifty season, but this game felt so
significant Ben in terms of seven and five, where are

(17:26):
you're going to go and finding a way to win
which was an absolutely bonkers game, a total shootout. You
know your defense gave up almost five or over five
hundred yards, but that you have two pick sixes. So
finding ways to win in different situations is something we
simply haven't seen from Broncos team in recent memory, and
we are seeing it from this team, and they continue

(17:47):
to prove that when the moment gets really big, they're
ready to just step up for it. And now you
have a bye week and you have the Colts coming up,
You have a two game lead on the Colts. Win
that game, and then you would know better than I.
I mean, look, I know there's like a million scenarios,
but it feels like they probably just need to win
one more game after that Colds game and you're probably
in the playoffs. So playoffs, it feels off even in

(18:08):
yours past, even last year, Yeah, we were talking about it,
but it didn't feel real right, didn't feel like they
could really make a big run for it and maybe
do something. It certainly feels like this team can do something.
And that's a great place to be. And I think
you saw the energy of the crowd yesterday. I think
Broncos Country believes a lot more than they had in

(18:29):
a really long time, and they should for a good reason.
This team is continues to check the box. They continue
to pass the test.

Speaker 1 (18:35):
I think we get it in a week out that
they do and not to you know, not to correct
you out a point, but I think they both leave
romy and as we as we see more and more
of this, we see what a throw to Marvin Milms,
what a great play. We see more and more of
the country get a little bow curious.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
Oh yeah, and you know it's it's one of those
things that's I think the most impressive thing about bo
Nicks has been start to finish is what's going on
between the years and he continues to even though I
feel like Ben, we've been watching this for thirteen weeks now,
it's still really impressive to me as a rookie. His

(19:12):
ability to stay calm in any situation when things go awry,
he's cool, he comes back. I really like throughout the season.
And I don't know what the exact numbers are, but
Bo on third and long at least in recent weeks,
it's really impressive. I mean, he's not scared to take
the big shot. He's not scared, you know, to throw

(19:33):
that ball to Marvin mind when he's in the end
zone and it could be a safety, right. He just
feels like each week the game continues to slow down
for him. I mean you ask the players and they
continue to say his maturity has confidence, and I think
it really does rub off on everybody. Like the whole
narrative on the team is a very young team, which
they are a young team, but in so many ways

(19:54):
they don't act like it. And I think so much
of that starts with Phonix.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
I think with you only being from CBS joining us here,
and that is that they are the third youngest roster
in the NFL. They are a young team and maybe
that benefits them in a lot of ways because they
don't know what losing culture is. Like, they're just young
and they're experiencing winning and they're you know, the the
weight of expectation is not there because so many of
them don't have any expectations they're that young, you know.

Speaker 3 (20:20):
I think that's actually a great point that I guess
I hadn't you even thought about? But that you know,
in many ways, I think that's probably a great situation
for Sean Payton too, because he can really mold this
team into the kind of team he wants. And the
one thing that you can certainly say about the team
is they're tough.

Speaker 4 (20:37):
Right.

Speaker 3 (20:37):
They had a tough training camp. It wasn't it wasn't
the fun days like in the then New Hacket, you know,
tough training camp. This this team is tough, and they're
they're wired to you know, be able to stand up
in adverse situations and to not lose their cool, not
melt down in bad situations. And so I think a
lot of these guys being have come from really winning

(20:59):
proms in college. That tends to happen when you get
drafted in that top distain for so many years, right,
and so they don't know anything else, And so I
think that you know that really is is a great point.
I actually just had Marvin mim on on my show
tonight and he's just so fantastic. But I did ask
him about that about being so young but kind of

(21:19):
not you know, acting like it in where does that
come from? And he kind of spoke to internally, the
belief that they've had from training him, the belief that
they've had all year that even though a lot of
people didn't feel like on the outside that they were
going to do well, he felt like this team had
like the mental strength to really do a lot this year.

Speaker 5 (21:39):
Obviously everyone in the NFL skills that really impressed. He said,
you know, with everybody, even the young guys, how mentally
mature everybody is and hungary as well. So I think
they just come from the you know, it's it's us
against everybody, and.

Speaker 3 (21:54):
This is all we know. And it's really starting to pay.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
Dividends talking with romy being from CBS when it's gears
a little bit, see you not making the Big twelve
Championship in the end. Ultimately, you know, the BYU over
Houston eliminated them from that. But when you look at
what CU is and where they've come from, do we
get how do we gauge this? Is this a sliding scale?
Is this a program that was I mean, frankly irrelevant

(22:18):
for twenty years and is finally relevant again? Is relevant
good enough? What is the next step for SEU? With
both Travis Hunter and shed Or headed for the NFL Yeah.

Speaker 3 (22:28):
You know, I think that, and I think I said this.
I think we were talking about this just a week
or two ago. I think that it can be both things.
That you can be disappointed about not making the Big Twelve.
You know, you look back at not even necessarily the
Kansas game, but the Case State game, right and the
Big Twelve championship, the College Football Playoff. And I think
the big reason for that that you could be is

(22:50):
because next year you expect the program to keep building,
but you're losing shore Standards and you're losing a generational
player in Travis Hunters, and you're losing your three best
players let's be honest, right, not just your two best players,
your three best players, with Travis Hunter occupying two of
those spots. So this was but I will tell you what,
that last home game at Fulsome Field, I took a

(23:13):
couple of days to like process it. I just had
to kind of stop and say, wow, Like, I feel
very blessed to be in the right place at the
right time to have covered this team during this moment
in time when one year or two years ago they
won one game, Like you said, they were irrelevant for
twenty years, and for now to finish this season with
nine wins after winning one game two years ago is

(23:37):
incredible and it speaks to the success of this season.
And it truly has been a really successful season despite them,
you know, not reaching their ultimate goals of where they
wanted to go. But I think that there's a lot
of excitement about the future, but curiosity, right, you get juju.
Everybody's excited about that. But it's going to be different, right,

(23:58):
It's not sure where it's not Trav Hunter. So it
feels like, what is this team then to do next year?
It feels a bit unknown. You're losing a lot of seniors,
a lot of guys that really helped kind of build
this with deeon, So it's going to be really interesting.
I think what next year brings, I think it's going
to be a roller coaster as it has been this
entire time. But this little era that we got to

(24:20):
witness of Shador Sanders and Travis Hunter was special. The
way that they put Colorado back on the map, and
to watch a guy like Travis Hunter live has just
been sensational. I mean, this is someone who you just
never thought there'd be these kind of players playing for Colorado, right, Well, yeah.

Speaker 1 (24:37):
I mean when the program was going, certainly not since
I've been here. I think you had one season of
relevance under Mike McIntyre, and that was basically it. I'd
have been a pit stop for coaches that wanted to
build their career somewhere else in a lot of ways.
One thing, and I will say that sort of ties
into my next question, is I think the one thing
that is settled is that Deon Sanders is going to
be back. You know, my good buddy Mike Norvell down

(24:58):
there at Florida State's already hired away Gus Mallis on
from UCSB, his offensive coordator Tony White from Nebraska to
his new defensive coordator. That that staff is going to
get at least a year in Florida State and go
from there. I was told that the Dallas Cowboys rumors
were ludicrous, that that was not something that whatever Michael
Lervin said was absolute nonsense. He's not going to the NFL.
So it looks like coach Prime is going to be
back and see you. Whatever you think of that, whatever

(25:20):
you however you think of that, it's certainly going to
be a cultural phenomenon next year. The question is whether
the winds follow with the exodus of talent, and I.

Speaker 3 (25:29):
Think it's going to be. I think that that you're correct.
And I've always felt that the only way that Prime
would leave is if he could coach his son right
in the NFL. But I just think the NFL as
a whole, and he said it a million times not
really a fit for him, you know, And he has
so much more freedom in college to do any once

(25:50):
to recruiting all of that stuff, it's all different. And
it's also about, you know, kind of developing young young
or boys and the young men, and I think that's
a big part of what he does is giving these
young men purpose. So you know this that's kind of
ning necessarily resonate in the NFL. I do think that,
you know, see, you will try to extend them, and

(26:10):
the price is going to be high, as it should be,
and it could be the only factor, Right, can they
pay him because they need to find the money. This
is plain and simple. But it will be really interesting
because I think this will be an interesting challenge for
him as well. Right, he's coached his sons all this time.
The relationship he has with Chador, that's going to be
so different than it is with Juju or any other quarterback.

(26:33):
So I think it's going to be really exciting to
see Prime in a different phase coaching somebody else, coaching
a freshman quarterback and what does this look like? Right?
And can he be as successful as he was with
with Travis and Chador. I think it's going to be
a really fun challenge to watch. And you know what,
He's proven that he can do it to this point,

(26:53):
so why should we doubt Well, I'm.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
With you on that. Romeo wan to switch gears a
little bit and break out Dane. People at home can
break out your tapioca pudding. Here is we're gonna talk
about a sport for the olds in baseball. Rob Manford
and I don't know if you saw this or not,
continues to look for ways to spice up baseball. Uh
and I don't know if you've seen this. He wants
to propose the Golden at bat. And for those of

(27:16):
you who don't know what that is, the basic concept
is that a team could choose one at bat every
game to use its best hitter, regardless of where they
are in the lineups. You can just randomly insert a
hitter randomly at any point in the game and go
to there. I think this might be the dumbest to
get a set of dumb rules Baseball's unfold, including putting
a runner on second base in extra innings. But I
wanted somebody else's opinion because I again I baseball just

(27:38):
has a problem marketing at stars, not doing what it
is that they're trying to do here with the golden
at bat.

Speaker 3 (27:44):
Yeah, this is almost as stupid as my hit hand
being passed over for the nothing is quite as nothing
is quite as stupid as that. But uh yeah, I
honestly as that come on where it was, This is
like backyard baseball, Sam WoT baseball. We're gonna try and
incorporate this in there. It's just so silly it makes
no sense. Uh And I get it, you know, baseball's

(28:07):
always trying to stay relevant and attract younger viewers, but
this is I honestly thought it was a little bit
of a joke, especially coming from a commissioner Like really,
uh no, I find this to be laughable and hysterical
and just one of one of the weirdest things I've
seen in a very long time.

Speaker 1 (28:25):
I do you want to touch on the other part
of that that you uh you got to there, and
that was Mike Shanahan getting uh passed over again for
the Hall of Fame for a coach that I feel
like he is uh inferior although he had a better
winning percentage. Mike Holmgren uh did have a better winning percentage.
He won nine fewer games than Mike Shanahan, of course,
and won a fewer Super Bowl. Mike Shannan getting passed

(28:49):
over from Mike Holmgren, Like, is there, Like, what in
the world, who do we have to rob here in
order to get Mike Shanahan a finalist for the All
of Fame.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
No, I mean this is crazy like this when it
feels like there's something rotten going on in there, like
it makes no sense. And remind me, then, who had
Mike Shanahan beat in Super Bowl thirty two? Which coach
is that?

Speaker 1 (29:11):
Off the top of my head would be one Mike.

Speaker 3 (29:12):
Compran Oh, okay, yeah, just double checking on that one,
you know, and all of these things. You can look
at the back to back Super Bowl wins, right, he's
the only eligible coach who's done that who's not in
the Hall of Fame. But I think it expands beyond
that when you look at his coaching tree, his influence
on the league, the way his run games changed the league.

(29:32):
I mean, his system is all over the league, and
so his impact has been present. I mean, it's just undeniable,
and I just there's no valid explanation to me of
why this is going on a year after you're in
the same situation. I truly don't. There's no valid explanation.
It absolutely infuriates me. It's wrong, it's playing wrong. You know. Look,

(29:54):
Holgren deserves a spot in the Hall of Fame, but
not before Mike Shanahan, you know. And it's just the
fact that we've been here year after year now. I
don't know, I don't know what can be done, but
it's not okay. It really really gets me going because
he should be and he should should have been in
there a long time ago too.

Speaker 1 (30:14):
Maybe we need to get some of Mike's guys. I mean,
everybody knows my chance coaching tree. Maybe we need to
get some of those guys in media because it appears
that that appears to be a Mike Mike home Ruan's
coaching tree, by the way, the most successful member obviously,
it has Andy Reid on it. But beyond that, the
most successful members are guys like John Gruden, Steve Mariucci
who are in in media, Dick darn, Bray Rhodes, Mike Sherman's,
Jim Zorn. I mean these are not exist is not

(30:34):
exactly the world's most flourishing coaching tree outside of maybe
Andy Reid.

Speaker 3 (30:40):
Right, Yeah, you know what, it's a great point. We
got to get all the current guys in my canyon's
coaching tree, right, I mean, I mean, like look in
the league, right, Lafleura, McDaniel McVeigh, his own son. Obviously,
maybe we need to have these coaches talking at their pressers.
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (30:55):
Now we need to get we need to get them
on TV, get him on the halftime shows. Maybe that'll
help it out. Romeo, I pretty siate it. Uh As
always enjoy a victory Tuesday, a bye week victory, and
look forward to catching up with you again here soon.

Speaker 3 (31:07):
Oh always are thank you, my friend.

Speaker 1 (31:08):
Absolutely take care. Roman being from CBS, we come back.
