Speaker 2 (00:23):
Parker Gabriel from the Denver Post at Parker J.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Gabriel on Twitter Parker how goes at this evening?
Speaker 3 (00:28):
I'm doing good.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
I guess Joe doing pretty well.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
You know, I've said it many times that this game
coming up is probably the biggest game for the Denver
Broncos since the run up to Super Bowl fifty. It
is in every way almost a facto playoff game. You
got both these teams coming off of by Broncos obviously
have questions in the secondary on the injury report, but
listed as a four point favorite at the books.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
How are we feeling going into this game?
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Yeah, I like it's a big one. I mean, you know,
it's it should be fun obviously if you're a fan
and you're watching games that really matter, like you want
your team to be playing in them, and then they
are excruciating to watch, unless obviously it's a blowout, and
even then you always have that thing in the back
of your mind. So it's definitely a I think Broncos
(01:18):
fans are in for an experience that probably like it'll
be a little different than it's been mostly in recent years.
I mean, I think like the Houston it had shades
of the Houston game last year, although they weren't nearly
as close to being in at that point as they
are right now, and so there's that element of it,
(01:38):
and then there's just you know, I think it's very
interesting that Sean Payton in the team meeting this morning
laid out what the odds are and you know, in
terms of playoff, you know, ninety one percent if they're
in and you know fifty to fifty if they lose,
and so like, it's just it's got a big game
feel to it, and it's going to be a fun.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
Time, well, Parker, when we look at the quarterback position
on both sides, both of these guys can make throws
down the field. But more importantly, which I think is
going to cause issues for both defenses, is the fact
of these guys, Anthony Richardson and both Knicks they do
a great job of running and that is going to
(02:20):
present some issues. And are you looking at it the
same way, It's going to come down to which one
of these quarterbacks is more effective and ef fishing with
their legs, Yeah, definitely.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
And then I think turnovers obviously, you know in games
like this, turnovers definitely play a role. And so you know,
obviously both Nicks has done a good job of not
taking sacks and not turning the ball over generally speaking
this year. You know, if one of these both of
them are going to probably make places they're legs, one
of them turns all over twice, then you know that's
going to be that's obviously going to have a big
(02:51):
impact on the game. But I think you're right, and
you know, one of the things and and Bensora mentioned
it in terms of the injury questions for Denver in
the secondary, you know, a couple of times and lamar
Jack's obviously a different animal than pretty much you know
that that is a different challenge than pretty much anybody
else in the NFL. But you know, the more the
(03:13):
Broncos have struggled some and the numbers bearried out, they
they've they've been much better playing man. They've been playing zone.
And when you've got a quarterback who you're worried about
taking up and running, you're not as comfortable playing a
ton of man because you know, you turn your backs
to the quarterback and he gets out and runs, and
that that makes for an interesting challenge, just in the
(03:36):
sense that like indies offensive sort of boom or busts right,
Like the completion percentage are bad, the efficiency is not
very good, but they can hit you for seventy five
really quick. So you know all about that challenge, Nick like,
it just makes I think for an interesting cat and
mouse game between Shane.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Psyche and Vance Joseph Tunga Parker, Gabriel Parker. You know,
again not the harp on it, but the secondary Riley
Moss still sideline. That practice probably going to be out
a couple of games. To be honest, as we look
at this, how big a loss is that for this defense?
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Yeah, well it's a big one. And I think, like
I think, I think all of us on training camp,
like you go back to July and August, I think
we all watched Riley Moss playing training camp and thought, Wow,
that guy was pretty good. But I don't think you
could have predicted that in week fourteen we would be
sitting here week fifteen, we'd be sitting here and saying, man,
(04:33):
the domino effect of Riley Moss being out is really
palpable on this defense. But that's sort of where we are,
and I mean, it's definitely where we are, and so
it's gonna be a big difference. I think it will
be very interesting to see, you know, whether it's Levi
Wallace or if it's Chris Abram's drain on the outside.
I feel like they've they've sort of found the role
(04:55):
that they like for tomar nathis just like at this
point in the season, now you know, see they could
they could put him into expanded duty as well. But
you know, I thought Chris aber Madraine handled himself pretty well,
uh in crunch time against Cleveland when they threw him
in for the one series that really mattered and you know,
he had the pass interference. Finally, I'm not I wasn't
(05:17):
too concerned about what his technique and positioning look like.
I'm not play to be honest, but yeah, it's gonna
be really interesting to see how to handle it. But
you know, Riley mosmiths in the time with an empty
l injury and then just you know, sort of seeing
how quickly or not quickly he can get back. It
has a big impact on what they do defensively.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
Parker, how do you think this? Uh, the Broncos are
going to respond with the bye being so late. And
the reason I say that because usually when we look
at the schedules players, we want to make sure that
we get that that buye possibly in that the first
two quarters of the season, and I'm talking about you know,
week six, week between week six and week eight. How
(05:57):
do you think the Bronco's going to respond? No one
is so it is so late in the season. Do
you think it's going to rejuvenate them or you think
it's going to be something that kind of.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
Hurts them in a certain way because of momentum.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Yeah, I think is the answer to those two questions.
I mean, you know, the challenge obviously is the second
thing you said, Nick, where you're just trying to make
sure that it doesn't sort of put a crimp in
the momentum that you've generated. But I also think that,
you know, I was talking to a couple of players
before the bye week, and the universal sentiment basically was like,
(06:33):
if you're bad, a late bye week is terrible because
not only do you have to play through a lot
before you get there, but then you get there and
it's December and you're looking around going like, can we
just be done with this? But conversely, a really late
bye week can be really good for a team in
contention because there's a lot of teams in contention that
(06:54):
don't get the buy right now or whatever their injury
situation is. It's only getting worse from here. You know,
you don't get a chance to rest a little bit
and reset. And not only does Denver get that, and
so does Indie by the way, going into this matchup,
but the Broncos get you know, this one the bye
week that's now over, and then the mini buy after
(07:14):
the Thursday night game next week too, And so obviously
it's two games in a short period of time on Sunday,
and then Thursday. But there's also it's also bookended by
a lot more rest than most teams get this time
of year, and most teams in contention are going to
get this year, and so if they can push that
rest to their advantage, I think it can be a
(07:35):
major factor. But they just have to avoid the second
part of it, which is you've been in such a
good rhythm, is there any wagon picking it back up?
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Talking with Parker Gabriel the Parker J. Gabriel on Twitter, Parker,
let's talk. We talked about the optimistic side of things.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
Let's talk about the pessimistic side of things.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
You blow this against the Indie.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
You got a Thursday night, short week game against a
very physical Chargers football team, and you don't land that
looking at because the goalposts I think have moved from
the beginning of the season. At the beginning of the season,
we were laughing at the books for only having five
and a half wins. But at the same time, I
don't think too many people were sitting here saying, you know,
it's a playoff caliber football team.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
Meanwhile, as we sit.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Here now, I think for most of the fan base,
not making the playoffs would be a massive disappointment.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
Yeah, definitely. You know how like maybe I use the
say view it is with you guys a couple of
weeks ago. I know I've used this analogy before. It's like,
if you're a if you're a thirteen seed in the
NCAA tournament and you're you're leading like in the first half,
that's all well and good, but there comes a tipping
point in the game where it's like, hey, listen, you're
leading by five with form at the under four time out, Like,
(08:40):
now you've got to win. It goes from being a
good story that you have that you sort of surprise
people to you've got a real chance. Now it's going
to be a crusher if you don't pull it off.
And so like that is where the productos are not
maybe they were a thirteen seed to start the year
or whatever, but there weren't a lot of external expectations.
(09:01):
And so now that you're here, you should make it
and if you don't, it's going to be a disappointment.
I mean, certainly for fans, and then I mean even
more obviously for the players and coaches involved. And you
know they play between Sunday and Thursday, they play two
games and they could very legitimately either clinch or have
(09:24):
odds like in the ten percent range if they lose
both games. And so it really is. It's pretty fascinating
that in a five day span you are basically going
to go a long way in determining the fate of
the team. Four games left, and half of them come
in really quick successions.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
Now, usually we're at the point of the season where
a lot of talk is about postseason award.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
So I'm going to put you on a hot seat
for a second.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
Now, if you had to look at the Broncos roster,
you can only choose one player, one player only to
say that that player is the MVP of the Broncos team.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
Which player would that be and why?
Speaker 3 (10:09):
Yeah, I would be interested in your guys answer to
this question as well. I get I thought about this,
and I just have a hard time not ticking Patzertan
because of what he means to the defense, because of
the extent to which they've built the defense around him.
I mean, you saw the scramble mode of what happened
(10:29):
when he got hurt on the first play against the Chargers,
and what the rest of that half looked like until
they sort of got back on their feet. I mean,
he's just he's just a remarkable talent. And not only that,
but I think in his own way, he's sort of
you know, he's really ascended in terms of you know,
leadership qualities and all of that this year. And so,
I mean, you could I think the thing about this
(10:51):
team is you could make an argument for other guys.
And you can make an argument for Zach Allen. You
could make an argument for Nick Bonito, you can make
an argument for Bo Nicks. But I think end of
the day, I'm not sure. Like, obviously, the quarterback has
the ball in his hands every offensive play, But I
just I don't know that you can really find many
(11:11):
players in the NFL who have the impact game to game.
You know that Pat has for the Broncos.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
Talk with Parker Gabriel at Parker J.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Gabriel on the Twitter machine, Parker, Broncos win this game
of flight, they lose this game of flood.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
They win the game if they played the way that
they've played the last you know, most of the last
ten weeks. I mean that if they don't turn the
ball over, they don't make the critical error. I think ultimately,
you know, they find a way to win. I mean, conversely,
you know, they lose the game if they played defensively
the way they played the last time we saw them
(11:49):
against against Cleveland. Like in, these weapons are good. They
probably are going to have all three of their receivers
in downs at Menham Pierce. That hasn't been the case
for you know, parts of the season. Each of those
I think two of them at least have dealt injuries
this year. They're not probably as good as Cleveland's trio receivers,
(12:10):
but they have the ability to get over the top.
And you know, if you've got Colts galloping free at
the third level, you could find yourself in trouble really quick.
And obviously they have to stop the run with Jonathan
Taylor and also with Anthony Richardson. So it's a dangerous offense.
It's a boomer Bus offense. If they hold him in
check and play the way they've been playing offensively, I
(12:31):
think they'll be fine. But you know, deviate from that
plan too much and it could get it could get
sticky pretty quick.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Hark are we We appreciate the time as always kind
of a break.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
Look forward to CD down there on Sunday and go Broncos,
So I'm good having good guests absolete.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
Take care of Parker Gabriel at Parker J. Gabriel on Twitter.
Also there on the you can also catch his work
at the Denver Post. We love reading his stuff, so
we got to hit a break. But when we come
back at the NFL six pack and maybe an explanation
as to why Nick Ferguson's curled up in the corner
of affic rocous Country tonight,
