Speaker 1 (00:00):
Kerry Roads here with Nick Ferguson.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
I'm feeling in for Benjamin Albright tonight, who's often look
a lot of conversation. Nick, We've had a chance to
talk about the Colts kind of going back to this matchup, though,
I want to set the table here and I'm curious
for obviously everybody's feedback.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
So if you want to.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Text into our koa Common Spirit Health text line five
six six nine zero, share your thoughts on that.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
Who starts at cornerback this week?
Speaker 2 (00:26):
In your opinion, if Riley Moss doesn't go at all
signs right now two straight days DMP look.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Riley was at.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Practice, had his helmet on, goes through teams, stretch, little
jogged through period, but then he works on the side field.
But two DMPs in a row, Nick tells me that
he's not gonna play this week and he shouldn't. I
don't think he should play this week. But with that said,
who starts at cornerback? There's three options for you. There's
veteran Levi Wallace who got start on.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Monday Night Football. He had his struggles there. We talked
about him a little bit earlier.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
There's a rookie Chris Abrams Drain, who got thrown into
the final minute, talk about getting thrown into the fire.
That situation is big. And then there's the Murray Mathis.
In your opinion, Nick, who'should start?
Speaker 3 (01:09):
I think you're gonna go with a young buck. Where's
Abrams Drains? And I know that.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
Sounds wild because Themary Mathis has been here for a while,
and that is something in my opinion that goes against
the mark because he's been here for a while.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
This is the coaching staff that they are.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
I'm not gonna say they're unfamiliar with him, but he
wasn't one.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Of their gods.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
And when you're not one of a new staff guys,
you gotta really stand out.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
You gotta really do some things.
Speaker 4 (01:39):
And this is not saying as though I don't believe
in dam Mathis and whether he can be that guy.
But at this stage of the game, it could be
a three man rotation until Roddy Moss comes back. Hopefully
that's not the situation. But Abrams Drains gives you right
now the best opportunity to compete. We just have to
see that looks like being in a lineup because I
(02:02):
can tell you when you had thrown into the fire.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
Batisn't by fire, and when the game is on the line,
that is very difficult to do.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
It's very difficult to coordinator up in the box and
the binocos. Hey, we got a guy thirty one, thirty
one is coming to the game. He's a rookie, all right.
What they do They move Jerry Jewry over there. And
so one thing I noticed though, and that's what I
like about him.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
I feel like he.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Can play well and off coverage, off ball man, he
can play well and press I think. I think he's
got good technique and he can play well in his
own coverage.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Look, the one thing I.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
Saw the Broncos do there in that situation, they put
him inside leverage safety over the top.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
He played underneath cover two man.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
I kind of like that because at that point it's
reading a reacting stain on the hip, being able to
funnel and filter in and if he's going vertical, you
get on the hip and squeeze allow your safety to
get time.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
To get over the top.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
That was a nice, I think protection element that they
added in the game that he stepped in there.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
Well, here's the thing, Cody, I just can't protect you forever.
At some point you have to man up and you
have to go out there and play. And this is
why you know, at the beginning of the season, everyone
was wondering who was going to be that guy right
at that spot. Was it going to be the Maori,
Was it going to be Levi or was it going
to be Riley Right, Chris Aiden's Draine wasn't even.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
In the conversation though.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
But now the Broncos find themselves in that moment where
you leaning on every single player to stand up and
be held accountable. And at some point if you want
to say you want to show to the team that
you have the ability to be considered to be that starter,
(03:41):
these are those opportunities. This is where you see the opportunity.
Look in my career, this is how I became a starter.
Someone got injured, I went in, and after I went in,
I never gave it back. And that's not to say
that if Chris Aidens, Drayne goes in, or if it's
to Mary Matthis those guys played well.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
That you forget about Roley Moss.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
No, it just gives you, from a defensive standpoint of
you vance Joseph.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
It gives you a multituit of different things that you
can do.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Yeah, well, here's the thing too.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
We also know Vance doesn't normally like to have to
play rookies on the outside. You know, at corner it's tough,
like it's putting a lot on the young man's plate.
But I think that Vance has also evolved a little
bit to where he understands like they didn't draft Chris
Abrams Drain just say like, hey, you're just gonna ride
the bench, Like I don't think anyone expected him to
play or start this year. And you mentioned all the
(04:31):
questions with Riley. I think this was more of a
two to three year from now type of thing with
anny impact on special teams. I loved what I saw
from him in the preseason. I think he's got good footwork.
I think his ability, I think he's got good hips,
the ability to play press, the ability to playoff well.
I think he does a great job getting in phase
and he plays through the hands of the receiver while
utilizing like hey, I'm gonna secure the tackle even if
(04:53):
I'm out of position. I'm gonna get my hand around
the hip, bring the ball side hand for it. I
think from a technician standpoint, he's good.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
But you mentioned some about rotating eye.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Do you feel like rotating guys messages with the flow
of the defense.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
I mean it can.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
It all depends on the play call itself. But cover zero, well,
cover zero you said, well, who's my best man in
man corner? Because we already know even though you have
two safeties in the middle of the field, Then I
goetna be there and think about it. This is what
happened to Levi Wallace, believe it or not, in the
game when Jerry scored that long touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
I mean the Broncos were in zero coverage because PJ.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
Lock and Brandon Jones were covering two tight ends and
Levi Wallace ow yes.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
So you're trying to disguise.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
So once again, you can't really disguise certain things if
everyone's not on the same page. Because I could have
told you that that wasn't cover two because the way
the two safeties were lined up and where Levi was
lined up, the Jerry Judy had a cut speed, so
he was inside the numbers, so you can't really get inside, so.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
You got one outside.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
So the way you sell it, because.
Speaker 4 (06:01):
That's the disguise if both safety are gonna stay high, Cody,
you gotta sell it so that means that I'm gonna
rotate down and make it look like it's covered too,
and then on the snap of the ball, I gotta
get out. But here's one thing that Levi Wallace didn't
do well and whether it was a fatal flaw, and
it happens to DB's and it's happened to me before.
Once a receiver gets upfield and you think he's in
(06:22):
his route and he's about to make a break, the
first thing you do is a cardinal sin was he
looked back at James and at that point he lost
Jerry because you lost your two safeties and now you
got all the fiel to work with. So if this
is where the Broncos is gonna have to be great,
no matter who's out there. If you're going to disguise
first and foremost, make sure.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Everyone on the same page.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
Two, don't disguise yourself out of coverage. Yeah right, don't
disguise yourself out of coverage. But it's going to be
really interesting. And for advance, he's not gonna be able
to sit back and play zone a lot.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
No, you can't.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
You got to mix it up.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Chargers took advantage of that, like, you know, we saw
what it was like without Passertann, we see what it
was like without Riley Moss, and it's like those two
guys have a lot of value. To your point though
two on that on that seventy yard touchdown that that
Levi gave up, I would also say the one thing too.
You know, my dB coach always said, you stare in
the backfield, it's Medusa.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
He turned stone, and that's exactly what happened.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
There were several miscommunications though on the back end there
specifically even late in the game. Late in the game,
they come out in empty formation. Passer Tan is playing
a manned man on Jerry Judy in the goal line,
and you got both linebackers blitzing, but nobody is cheating
over to guard Nick Chubb, who the easiest touchdown.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
You could think of.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
I didn't like the NFL next Gin SATs said that
I was a touchdown credited against passer.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
Tan because he was the nearest guy in coverage.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
He was covering Jerry on a slant like it's a slant,
it's the it's the out to the flat. It was
simple there on that one with both linebackers blitzing. I
mean usually sometimes like you have like if you're gonna leitch,
you have a green call, right. Sometimes you have like
reroute rules, like hey, this guy comes out, I got
a reroute. I got to turn it into a red call.
It wasn't that so the safety I think it was
PJ wasn't able to get over in time.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
But this goes back to the communication part of it.
Speaker 4 (08:13):
Yeah, like out in the field, it's explosive plays. If
you don't communicate well inside the LA Low red zone,
it's an immediate touchdown because the ball comes out quick.
You have less room for the offense to operate, but
less time for the defense to really make a move
and try to make a play on the ball. But
(08:34):
this is where the Broncos have a look at the
Cleveland game and they have to get better because a
big don't There's gonna be some opportunities for the Colts.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
With Joshua Downs.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
I mean you talk about him being a first down
like a chain mover for them. Michael Pittman Junior. You know,
I know that back injury has been bothering him for
a good part of the season, but man, we know
how explosive and how athletic he is. They can do
different things with him. And then Alec Pierce right now,
he's averaging twenty two yards of catch and so he's
big plays downfield. He leads the team right now in
terms of receiving yards. He's got five touchdowns on the season.
(09:05):
So a part of me's trying to think, Okay, how
is this going to match up? Like I think in
crucial I think at third down situations here, I'm gonna
put passer tan on downs and then who do you
match Ja Kwon mcmiller with, right, I think so much.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
Depends on you know, who's lined up in the slot?
Is the matchup what you want?
Speaker 2 (09:23):
You know, you're gonna try to rob Paul to pay
Peter in terms that I think you can't do that
when you have.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
A guy in it.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
And that's something that Sean said to us on Monday
we were on the conference call. He said, what would
we if we were playing Cleveland the game? What would
we have done differently? He said, we would have found
a way to put our best player on their best
player for a majority of the game.
Speaker 5 (09:40):
Okay, See that sounds great in theory, because that was
hard to me, it is a huge question coming out
of the game, the money in that game, because smart
offensive coordinators say, okay, well, if you're going to put
your best guy on our best guy, so what we're
going to do.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
We're going to move him around everywhere.
Speaker 4 (09:59):
We're going to put him in we're gonna we're gonna
put him in cut splits, We're gonna put him close
to the core, so that way, your premiere corner can't
really get hands on and if your guy's in the secondary,
whether you're playing zone or you're playing man, you don't communicate,
it's going to end up being an explosive play. And
this is what we saw in the game against Cleveland.
(10:19):
So it's great, you know, on the surface to point
fingers and Levi Wallace and say, well it was all
his ball, But you and I both know that when
you're the guy in the frame, you guys chasing. Yeah,
like you said, something's wrong, and everyone's gonna blame you, all.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
Right, So now let's make the case here for Levi Wallace, right.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
Veteran cornerback, he's played a lot of games in his
NFL career.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
I think we can all acknowledge.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
I felt like he was playing better in the dime
when they would go, yeah, you could play a little
more man in the dime, you know, in situations where
like it's evidently passing downs, but that's where they're ramping
up the pressure.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
Right.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
I think he plays well in zone. Well, when we
talk about off ball.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Man coverage, I think that's just not an area where
it's his strength. So let's make the case here for
Levi after a game, right, I've had bad games like that.
I've given up my freshman year of high school, I
got burnt three times for long touchdowns in one game.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
Riot tears in my eyes.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
It was a miserable experience for me, and I remember
my dv CO said, hey, you you just have to
have a short term memory. So from that point forward,
it's like, all right, I'm not going to get beat again.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
And that was a goal of mine.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
But man, it's it's a mental thing, I think for
him to be able to you know, the.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
Bye week helps you cry.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
You cried?
Speaker 2 (11:27):
That was my first year playing football. Yeah, I was humiliated,
all right, I'll say the only time I ever cried
in football. After that, we lost. We lost in the championship.
I think one year and it was just like just
by supposed to cry. Yeah, at that point, for sure,
Oh it was awful.
Speaker 4 (11:44):
Look, man, I'm not sitting here acting as though I'm
more holier than now, because I too was in a situation.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
Where I cried.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
Right, I was moved up from to varsity and we're
playing against our arrivals, Northwestern Bulls. They shout out to
Teddy Bridgewaters got that team in the state championship. Yes, And.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
One of.
Speaker 4 (12:16):
The current coaches for the CU Buffs, right, Gary Harrow.
We called him Flee in Miami and this my sophomore season.
He was a senior, and they ran double dinos on me.
I talked to him about this. I said, do you
remember this play? And yes, of course he remembered the play,
but they ran double dinos Summer young Savory safety. I
(12:39):
didn't look outside the number after the snap, but I
saw the first post.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
I was on it.
Speaker 4 (12:47):
I jumped in front of it with my hands open, right,
and then all of a sudden, I heard the crowd
here and I was like, what happened? And I looked back.
He was in the end zone profiling. I went to
the sideline. I was so I too, I cried, Yeah,
but it infuriated me so much that I wanted to
go out and I wanted to make him other play.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
So yeah, so I've been there. Those are not tears
of sorrow.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Yeah yeah. And look, I think the bye week came
at a great time for Levi to be able to reset.
I mean, he was like, I said, would you have
a game like that?
Speaker 2 (13:26):
It's hard. It's hard to be able to answer that.
It's hard to go in the film room and say like, wow,
like what happened here? But if you go back with him,
let's say he starts this week, how short is the
level of patience?
Speaker 3 (13:37):
Right?
Speaker 1 (13:38):
If there is like a big play, because it wasn't
just Jerry Judy.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
You know, he got he did the one thing that
you never do when you're playing press coverage. He's gemin
Elijah Moore on the slant, he peeks inside it. The
quarterback once again scrambles drill, He just pray, what's it
into a corner? How short is that leash going to be?
Essentially this week?
Speaker 3 (13:59):
Well, the least would.
Speaker 4 (13:59):
Be really short, and I think the home crowd would
help him dictate how that will be based on their response.
But with me watching going back and watching Levi, the
whole thing was like you're talking about, it was basically
his eyes that was getting him in trouble. Now, does
he still have the foot speed that he had when
he first came into the league, And no he doesn't.
(14:21):
So when you don't have that, you have to play
smarter as a veteran player. So if they do put
him in the Lisa is gonna be short. Hopefully he's
better with his eyes. But if you want to start
off the game where Chris Abrams drained as being that
guy known as though, you have two of the guys
in the fold that you can go back to. Hey,
I mean it's a luxury to have that much depth
(14:42):
opposed to what the Broncos had years ago.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
Man, I remember a year going out a training camp.
I think this was when Greg Williams obviously one of
my favorite coaches I've gotten to know and whatnot, not
the Greg Williams everyone else is thinking about. The former
cornerback coach was with Vance when Vance came in as
a head coach here and also was with Vants in Arizona.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
I know Greg and I played against each other.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
Greg's a great coach.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
He helped me like when I was coaching here and
we'd come up, like we would travel from Grand Junction
to come play some of these Denver teams. He would
come up and watch my guys like he'd come up
and come to game. So he's a great coach, and
he and I exchange a lot of different things, like
in terms of technique, gave me some drills that I
could use with my guys. I remember going to training
camp one year. I think it was Chris Harris Junior,
(15:27):
I can't remember who. I think he had tremain Brock
on the team, but Denver only had five corners at
training camp.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
That to me was a little unheard of here.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
And I did think the adjustment what you've been able
to see from these guys, like Denver's in a much
better spot. Theaking Jim Leonard's done a fantastic jobb a year.
They got a lot of stuff going on here, But
we got a lot of conversation going on here.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
Broncos Country Tonight.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
We're gonna get into our NFL six pack, a lot
of storylines around the National Football that you're in. Get
that here. You're listening to Broncos Country Night on Kaaway
Jan I'm in for Benjamin Albright, who's off tonight, and
the week fifteen of.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
The NFL season is approaching us.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
And tell you what, even week fourteen, even though the
Broncos had to buy Nick, I don't know about you.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
I was very busy.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
I didn't have a lot of time to just kick
back and relax.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
But you know what we do have time for. We
have time for the NFL six pack.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
It's time for the NFL six pack.
Speaker 4 (16:26):
I'm last year insight and insight information you can't find
anywhere else.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
I know the top six NFL headlines.
Speaker 3 (16:36):
What alright?
Speaker 6 (16:39):
Marquise Brown is officially returning to Chiefs practice this week.
Could this be the change that finally sparks the seemingly
dormant in Casey offense.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
No, I don't think it will.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
Look you got Patrick Mahomes, Isaiah Pacheco. I feel like
is the spark probably to that offense right now? More
than I think Patrick Mahomes isn't play his best football.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
He's finding ways in clutch time situations.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
Third downs, of course, but he's not playing his best football.
Adding Hollywood Brown back in the mixer.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
Is good for them.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
He's gonna make their offense suddenly play more elite.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
I don't think so.
Speaker 4 (17:13):
For one, being a guy in the secondary, well, it
could change a lot for you because now, like you're saying,
the offense has been lying dormant for a while and
Mahome has been on a lot of pressure. You still
miss Tyreek Hill, even though some people in Kansas City
say no, we don't.
Speaker 3 (17:29):
Yes, you freaking do.
Speaker 4 (17:31):
And adding more weapons to the arsenal only makes it
more difficult to stop the Chiefs down the stress because
let's be telling honest, they're winning in certain ways that
we're not used to them winning. And if you get
weapons back, man, it changes the dynamic. Cody, I don't
want to say it because we live in Broncos country.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
I'm just gonna keep it real.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
Their offensive line has also given up a lot of pressure.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
He's getting sacked quite a bit. I'm just not so.
I think the key to them Nick and Zach I
think is their run game.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
Isaiah Pacheco, I think has been a big difference maker
for him two.
Speaker 6 (18:09):
Heighten's head coach and former Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan
came out this week and said he thinks Joe Burrow
should be in the MVP race despite the Bengals struggles
this season. Do you think Joe Burrow, aside that he
that a player on a team that fails to reach
the postseason should ever be in the MVP conversation?
Speaker 1 (18:29):
Uh No? And the reason why.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
Look, I think Joe Burrow he's having an MVP case,
But I think you have to you could be a
great player on a really, really bad team.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
I think we could look.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
At Brock Bauers as a great example of that. He's
the shiny object there for what is not very you know,
a rusty system over there in Vegas. I think for
Joe Burrow playing unbelievable, he and Jamar Chase are doing
his incredible, but they've got a losing record.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
In my opinion, I think right now the MVP awards
that I think it's I think he's Josh allens Man.
Speaker 4 (18:56):
Get the hell out of here with that right looks,
And let's take you to this exercise. MVP stands for
what Cody.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
Most valuable player?
Speaker 3 (19:07):
That's right. They're not talking about the most exciting.
Speaker 4 (19:10):
The most electric, the most energetic, the most valuable player
who has the most passing yards in the NFL Joe Burrow,
who has the most touchdowns in the NFL, Joe Burrow.
When you look at quarterback rating, who has the best
in the NFL Joe o'burrow. We can't hold that against him.
Because his defense actually spinks a bunch of cow chips.
(19:33):
We can't hold that against him.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
Josh Allen is the talent in.
Speaker 3 (19:36):
His own right, but the MVP Most Valuable Player is
Joe Burrow.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
I would also argue here too.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
You can also have the argument that Joe Burrow, when
playing Eleak the Bengals don't have a great record.
Speaker 6 (19:48):
Three lucocollins this past weekend scores a touchdown for the
Houston Texas.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
That's the cool guy move of throwing the ball into
the stands to a kid.
Speaker 6 (20:00):
NFL does the lame move of finding him for five
thousand dollars. What do you think about the NFL doing
things like this and why do you think they even doing?
Speaker 3 (20:07):
What positive purpose does it?
Speaker 1 (20:09):
Sir? Come on, man, what are we doing or finding player?
Speaker 3 (20:13):
Look?
Speaker 1 (20:13):
The NFL wants to find players left right.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
You want to find a player for sneezing too hard
next to a ref.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
You could do that.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
You want to find a player too, you know, for
lowering your shoulder running through a guy too art, I
have problems with that, but give it.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
A football to a kid, nick, but you don't get fined.
He threw He threw the football to the end zone
to throw a fans after he scored the pick six.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
Why are we finding players for amplifying the experience of
a young young player or a young person in the crowd.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
I don't like this. I don't like it.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
What are you gonna start finding guys and throwing flags
for a excessive use of a fart or something like that.
This is utterly ridiculous, because I mean, NFL stands not
for long. Some people call it the no fun League.
But at the same time, come on, man, family's cola.
Spend a lot of money to be entertained, right, and
if your favorite player just so happens launches the ball
(20:58):
into the state ants and you catch it, fine, Usually
those balls where they would find you, well, it looks
gonna be the cost of the ball is like seventy
five dollars, right, But as long as you're not inciting
a riot by being being able to do it, that
only adds bat into the game.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
And if they looked at it.
Speaker 4 (21:14):
From that standpoint, fans think, okay, well, maybe my guy
may get an interception or a touchdown and.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
He might get the ball to me. That's more in
center for fans to spend more money on the highest
price tickets.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
This is the first time I've seen this happen this year.
But I also want to let's get a sports lot
for a second. We call this when you attend as
a spectator of a sporting evan. We call that assumption
of the risk. Right, give it, Give Nico, I will
be appilled it. Give him his five K back.
Speaker 4 (21:42):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
Well, first of all, let me let you know how
that works.
Speaker 4 (21:44):
See, if you a pill it, They're not gonna give
you all your money back.
Speaker 3 (21:47):
I've been there before. They're gonna give you twenty five hundred. Wow.
Speaker 1 (21:50):
Yes, hey, you gotta fuel up to jest somehow there
get gets away.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
You're as before.
Speaker 6 (21:58):
ESPN's Bill barn would Well, a not very popular figure
here in Broncos Country, recently put out an article where
he projects the Minnesota Vikings will move on from Sam
Donald excuse me, Sam Donald this offseason, and the Atlanta
Falcons will move on from Kirk Cousins this offseason, both
(22:19):
in favor of their young first round quarterbacks that they
drafted in this past draft. If that happens, where do
you think Sam Donald and Kirk Cousins could wind up?
Speaker 2 (22:30):
This is interesting. I can see the argument here for
Michael Pennick Junior. But the problem is the Atleanta Falcons
did this to themselves. They signed him to a massive
contract extension coming off of an achilles' injury. Certainly he's
struggled as of late, and everyone's like, hey, this is
the more exciting young option that has the velocity to
be able to get the ball where he needs to be.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
Is that more appealing?
Speaker 2 (22:52):
We don't even know what JJ McCarthy's going to look
like in the NFL just yet. I think it would
be a mistake for the Vikings to move on from Donald.
I think the Falcons with Cousins, I think that's coming.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
I mean, they might have to eat a large financial thing,
But I see Donald maybe landing in a situation where
there's a team that isn't comfortable, that needs a quarterback
that's in this year's draft, and maybe it's not one
of these guys here that miss out.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
On Maybe like a Shadura cam Ward.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
That might be the only place I could see Donald
or a cousin's going.
Speaker 4 (23:22):
Okay, So when we talk about Sam Donald, who's been impressive,
for sure, we're we could still use him if you
look at it from a team standpoint, as a starting quarterback.
But if you need a bridge player, who would you
rather have as a bridge player?
Speaker 3 (23:36):
Dan? Again? Like Sam Donald?
Speaker 4 (23:37):
Now will Kevin o'conno decide to move on? Which I
don't think that's a great idea because j J. McCarthy's
coming back off injury. Now, the Vikings could say to himself, well,
we have Daniel Jones. He could be a lot cheaper
than what you know Donal would actually college.
Speaker 3 (23:53):
So to answer your question.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
There's two teams that could be and the Sam Donald's
weep say the Vegas Raiders.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
And Darrel said in one of his former teams, the
New York Jets. How about five.
Speaker 6 (24:09):
Aaron speaking of those New York Jets in the quarterback position.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
Aaron Rodgers, when asked about the kus.
Speaker 6 (24:15):
Struggles this year, said, you know, he thinks that the
Jets are cursed and they need to break this curse
that that looms over the franchise.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
In order to get that team.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
Back to the playoffs.
Speaker 6 (24:26):
Do you buy this idea of curse franchises or the
Jets being cursed or do you think this.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Is just another excuse. Aaron Rodgers is the curse. That's
the thing. You know, he gets on.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
The Pat McFee show, Rugi says, we who's we?
Speaker 1 (24:37):
You got a mouse in your pocket? Like what's going
on here with the Aaron right?
Speaker 4 (24:42):
Like?
Speaker 2 (24:42):
And now he's got a Netflix documentary coming out. In
my opinion, look, I think I think Jets ownership is
not good, it's not stable. I think it's a reflection
like what you see on the field is a reflection
of their ownership. Aaron Rodgers also is the problem there.
He is the curse there. I think this is another
excuse here from the guy who you know, maybe did
(25:02):
a division quest before he even said this.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
Well, there was once called the curse of the Bambino.
So maybe the.
Speaker 4 (25:08):
Jets are cursed, but they're cursed by bad decision making.
I mean, didn't they make the same move getting a
former Packers quarterback and hoping that he could really relive
his prime days in a Jets uniform and Brett Farr, Yeah, I.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
Mean, who didn't see this actually come in? Even m
Night Shyamalan saw this coming.
Speaker 4 (25:29):
But for the Jetstar right now, they just need to
go ahead and part ways with Aaron Rodgers. Don't allow
him to handcuff the team anymore. Go get a GM,
Go get a head coach. Maybe bring Sam Donald back.
See what happens. But this whole Aaron Rodgers experiment didn't work.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
Yeah, watch him nd up now with the Minnesota Vikings.
After you just said that he was really freak creating.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
Everyone agreed. Bay's saying prayers right now for Jordan Love.
Please don't do it, Jordan. We'll see how it goes.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
Six last for you.
Speaker 6 (26:00):
Here another one of those New York teams, the New
York Giants, having a rough season. ESPN's Dan Graziano and
Jeremy Fowler are currently reporting that Giants owner John mara
is so sick of the revolving door at head coach
and firing all these different failed head coaches that he
might give Brian Dable another year at the helm.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Is this the right move in your opinion? Giants fans
are sick too. I see it. I do a national
show every week and that's the number one thing we.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
Hear Giants fans talk about is really just kind of
like we're tired of the revolving door.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
What's going to change?
Speaker 2 (26:34):
I think Brian Dables got a great offensive mind, but
it's like, all right, you have a wide receiver now
in the Lak neighbors who is an absolute dog, but
you need to beef up.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
You need to find a replacement.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
At running back. I'm Tyrone Tracy's done a really good
job stepping in this year, but Daniel Jones is not
the guy. You get a guy, Let's say you get
a guy in the draft three, you get a guy
like Sam Darnold to end up with the Giants instead
of the Jets. I think that actually might work out
for Brian Deeble. I think that they should ca Brian
Dable in New York.
Speaker 4 (27:03):
I would agree with you, Cody, because we've seen a
lot of teams try to turn over their roster, their
coaching staff, and they never really give the players an
opportunity to jail and constantly firing guys.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
I mean, we've seen.
Speaker 4 (27:18):
With Cleveland and other organizations that philosophy hasn't really worked.
Sometimes you gotta hunker down and say, you know, what.
We're gonna take some lumps. We're gonna take some losses.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (27:27):
One of our biggest mistakes is we let Sakwa Barkley.
Speaker 4 (27:30):
Go to one of our division rivals, and we decided
to give someone of an extension to Daniel Graham's who
no longer is on our roster with Daniel Jones.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
So yeah, keep Brian Dabole another year.
Speaker 4 (27:42):
Try to find you in that offensive line, give malite
neighbors someone opposite him and see where things go.
Speaker 2 (27:50):
You just gotta continue to build, and I think free agency,
the draft, you got a foundation. Let's all be clear.
Tommy DeVito's not the answer. Drew Lock's not the answer
for them. Daniel jones not.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
The answer to them. They need to vamped that quarterback group.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
Could Zach Wilson make it to the New York Giants
possibly this offseason?
Speaker 4 (28:06):
Whoa wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, hold on, man, puffya breaks.
If I'm Zack Wilson, I'm gonna say I've already seen
this movie.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
Yeah, I know how the New York fan base.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
What about though too?
Speaker 3 (28:22):
Okay, Yeah, but he's seen it.
Speaker 4 (28:23):
But Donald has also seen some success in this league.
Zack Wilson has not so in this situation, Sam Donagh
could be welcomed back with open arms.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
Zack Wilson maybe not much. And that's not to say
that I.
Speaker 4 (28:38):
Don't believe that Zach Wilson could be successful in this league.
It goes back to having the coaching staff that has
the patient and the vision.
Speaker 3 (28:44):
To set you up and putting in that situation.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
Yeah, I think organizational stability is going to be a
big part of that.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
My personal belief. I think that Zach.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
Wilson re signs with the Broncos of this offseason, I
think he becomes the true backup to bow Knicks next season.
I think the way that they do it, they might
try to keep all three quarterbacks. But if Jared Stidham
or Zach Wilson get a good opportunity, I'm very curious
see how Sean Payton approaches.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
I think it would probably be Zach Wilson.
Speaker 4 (29:08):
Now, well, if you were to look at both quarterbacks,
all three quarterbacks, and look at the two backups and say, well,
which of those two backups in Wilson and Stidham seemed
like they might play a little more of a BONEIX
type of style.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
Which Wilson exactly we saw in the last preseason game.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
And here's the thing too, Also, here's the biggest thing.
You don't have to pay them a whole lot of money.
Speaker 1 (29:31):
Hey, thank you New York. Once again, I feel like, you.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
Know what the Broncos have kind of New York has
gotten a little bit of calm of this year. You know,
obviously Sean had those comments about Nathaniel Hackett last year,
the Jets come to town, Zach.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
Wilson beats the Broncos, but then all of a.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
Sudden, you know, this year, you have all the talk
to hype, the hoop us arounding Aaron Rodgers and the Jets,
and then the conversation suddenly shifts after the Broncos beat them.
And then they fired Robert Sola, which I didn't agree
with that. I felt like I didn't agree with that.
There was a run in joke. You know, we did
a squad show and I for like four straight weeks
is like, ah, I can't believe Robert Sala and his
defense just can't tackle anybody couldn't do it again there, So, yeah,
(30:09):
New York, that's a dysfunctional organization.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
Quick little preview here for Broncos countries.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
They want to maybe keep an eye on the playoff
position officers. You want the Broncos to beat the Colts
this week, and here's some other games to watch. Miami
at the Houston Texans. That's got some big implications. That
Houston Texans win essentially pushes Miami out of it, pushes
them back a little bit further. The Baltimore Evens and
the New York Giants, we already know how that one's
gonna go. That's not gonna be something you can't But
Tampa Bay in LA is going to be very interesting.
(30:33):
Justin Herbert banged up a little bit here this week
the Broncos they signed Garrett.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
Bulls to a four year contract extension. More on that.
Speaker 2 (30:42):
You're listening to Broncos Country tonight on Gay Away
