Speaker 1 (00:02):
You're listening to Charleston's Morning News on ninety four to
three WSC Now back to Kelly and Blaze.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Customs in Border Protection officials say a Chicago Hispanic street
gang has issued a shoot on site order targeting immigration agents.
The agency is reminding agents to be alert and exercise
extreme caution during enforcement activities. The news of the alert
comes after shots who are reportedly fired at federal agents
during an immigration enforcement operation on Saturday in the city's

(00:33):
Little Village neighborhood. A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson says
law enforcement is facing a huge increase in death threats
against them while they risk their lives to remove the
worst of.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
The worst threats.

Speaker 4 (00:46):
Docks I got out. You know these Karen's out here
screaming at them with signs and bullhorns in their faces
and getting things thrown at them. Do you know? The
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Christy Noome, live over the
weekend here in the Low Country, said on Mike that

(01:07):
for I can't remember exactly how many open positions I
think she kept that quiet how many open positions they
have at ice, but she said over two hundred thousand
people despite all of these attacks have called up, signed
up to be a part of ICE, even though here
they are quite literally with these threats to their lives

(01:29):
on a daily basis. Over two hundred thousand people have applied.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Well assigned from the Karens. It's the Democrats that have
genned all over this, and they're making ICE the enemy,
and they've rallied the troops so to say, to go
out and do these things. And they still stand against
Ice in with the people that are attacking ICE.

Speaker 4 (01:51):
Well, and it's just incredible to me that the fifty
thousand dollars bonus people are still saying, yes, sign me up,
I'll do the job. But you know, the what you're
describing here, this is an act of terrorism.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
I mean, this is.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
I'm just kind of gobsmacked by the notion that you've
got so many ways that people are coming out against
this three letter federal agency that was implored by the
American people, the majority of the American people who elected
this president. This was number one, close the border, close

(02:33):
the border, and let's get immigration under in check.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
I don't know why they're doing this or I mean,
the standing against ICE and standing in support of a
bunch of illegals. Think if this was in the past
and think about the mafia. These are this is organized crime.
This is a Hispanic street gang of organized criminals. So say,

(02:58):
pretend it's the mafia, and they were here from Italy
illegally a few decades ago, and there were people saying,
you can't deport those people back to Italy, and there
was people fighting the cops going after the mafia on
the streets of Chicago. It would seem totally outrageous and
ridiculous to you, wouldn't it.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
It's a good way of putting it.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Yeah, well, that's exactly what's happening. And these Democrats are
still standing up for the illegals. And you see who
was led into this country where you have to worry about,
you know, street gangs in Chicago of illegals Hispanics that
are now firing and have shoot on site orders against

(03:42):
customs and Border Protection officials. It's totally outrageous.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
It won't be tolerated.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
And if you're standing on the side of the Democrats
on this, you're on the wrong side. Congress Women Marjorie
Tayler Green is pushing back on President Trump's notion that
she has lost her way. The President's criticism comes as
Green's public disapproval of the GOP on multiple issues, including
the Affordable Care Act, subsidy extensions, and the Epstein files,
has grown more frequent. Green defended herself, asserting that she

(04:10):
has not lost your way, and she added that she
is one hundred percent America first and only. She also
pushed her America First agenda with a post on x
calling for NonStop meetings at the White House on domestic policy,
not foreign policy, and foreign countries' leaders like.

Speaker 4 (04:28):
It or not, the Epstein thing isn't going away with
some on the right. And I know she's been echoing
a lot of things that we've heard from Tucker Carlson
and Candace Owens, and they're you know.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Talking about a fracture in the party.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
And I you know, take it or leave it with
how you feel about the Epstein thing. How can you
not agree, though, in some way about the focus on
America First, that is, you know, was one of the
main main issues clearly in this administration and Trump on
the campaign trail, which, by the way, she was with

(05:05):
him on the campaign trail many many campaign appearances stumping
for the president about you know, America.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
First, Well she still says, you know, I love Trump
and uh, but you know, people don't have to agree
one hundred percent of the time, right, and she can
have her own opinions. And she's been kind of what's
the word I'm looking for, painted as being oh wow,
a crazy woman and a whack job and all that.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
She's very smart, right, she's she's a fire brand.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
Anybody who ruffles feathers and you know, stands their ground
and often gets painted as I forget yesterday, what was
it yesterday?

Speaker 3 (05:44):
The day before?

Speaker 4 (05:45):
On the cackling hens of the view? What did oh gosh,
what did the Pennsylvania John Fetterman? Yeah, what did he
call her? Wasn't a whack job, but it was something
similar crazy pants.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Well there was somebody else, Well, there was somebody else
laughing about her. I saw she was done. I think
it was last week Bill Maher, Bill Maher and they
do the after show thing where they do an extension
of it online, and she was sitting there with a
couple of people and they were talking about aliens and

(06:21):
how these pilots have seen these unexplainable you know, flying
unidentified phenomena UAPs, and so the somebody at the one
of the guests on the panel, of course, a lefty, says,
you know that, oh, this was a ridiculous Somebody at
the Pentagon said that it could be fallen angels, and

(06:43):
they all laughed, how ridiculous. And she said, you know,
I tend to agree with that. According to my faith,
why couldn't it be fallen angels? And they were like, oh,
that is so nutjob and everything. So these freaking people
are ready to make fun.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
Of her for her faith.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
Well, well let me finish. It's ready to make fun
of her for going against the notion that these are aliens,
because that's what they believe. But it's a total nutjob
to think that it could be fallen angels. You see,
it's aliens. So that's the left. That's how far they'll
go in their anti religion, anti god stance. This could

(07:24):
never be fallen angels. It has to be aliens. Well,
I mean, think about ridiculous.

Speaker 4 (07:30):
That is Well, they need to pay attention to what
she's pushing back with regards to this administration. She's talking
about hauling health insurance company executives into the White House,
you know, in formulating a plan to save America from
the ACA.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
Tax credits that you are expiring.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
So they you know, she's on their side so to
speak with this, and you know they ought to be
real careful with all of that, you know, crazy pants talk.
She's on their side with that, which is how in
some ways and why the President is saying she's lost
her way.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Well, so all of the comments after this episode that
I was talking about were like she had me until
because she did a very good job holding her own
on that show. And then all of the comments where
she had me until the Fallen Angels comment, and all
of this in that and again, this is how the
Democrats' brains work. It's of course it's aliens. How could

(08:26):
it be fallen angels? Oh my gosh. Former President Barack
Obama marked Veterans Day with a surprise appearance before service
members and their families who arrived in the nation's capital.
The former president posted a video to x on Tuesday,
Worry walked down to an arriving plane and thanked the

(08:46):
veterans for their service. He also shared images of him
handing out the Presidential Challenge coin to veterans coming off
the flight. The flight was part of the honor Flight Network,
which offers veterans of World War Two, the Korean War,
and the Vietnam War free to honor their service.

Speaker 4 (09:02):
Does someone tell me is no longer the president? So
I've been on an honor flight. It is an absolutely
incredible experience. It is a wonderful nonprofit if you ever
want to support nonprofits, it is something that you know
to be a part of. For our World War II
heroes that there there are very few left, you know,

(09:24):
we're moving on to Korean War and really in Vietnam War.
These guys and gals are passing away. So to be
able to see their monuments is incredible. But don't you think, my, my, mi,
the tides have turned here. During Obama's government shut down,
which by the way, was over the not so Affordable
Care Act, they they jailed these barricades, you know, they

(09:48):
tried to separate these heroes, these war heroes, from their
monuments quite literally, from one of these honor flights.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
Well, they shut down the Well it wasn't directly, I
mean they shut down the monuments during the government shutdown.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
What do you mean wasn't directly Well, you.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
Were saying they barred the honor flights. They what they
did was close the monuments.

Speaker 4 (10:11):
Right, and it affected the honor flights who showed up
and those guys weren't having it, and they moved the
National Parks, you know, all of the barricaded gating there
and they went in. That was a you know, that
was a big story and.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
It was a big store. And they closed the National
Parks and they did all kinds of things.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
Yeah, these historic ca you know.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
I mean, I'm not going to knock the guy for
doing this. I'm no fan of Obama, but I think
this was a nice gesture of them.

Speaker 4 (10:39):
Oh sure, it's a nice gesture. But it would have
been a nice gesture for him to stand up for
the honor flights that were affected back when he was
president and the government was shut down, to make sure
that they that their own monuments weren't being barred from them. Instead,
they moved the barricade themselves. Who knows, Who knows if
he didn't know about it, you know, I have no idea.
Maybe this is his way of tacitly saying you know,

(11:02):
I'm sorry, I appreciate you and your service.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
Well he was apparently saying he appreciated their service, and
he welcomed them to Washington, and he's a former president
and put this into a vacuum. And I think it
was a very nice thing for him to do. And
so I'll give credit where credit's due. I'm not going
to knock him over every single thing. Well, you can
give me that.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
Look, I mean, that's fine. You have your opinion. I
have mine. I mean, I well, I mean, what.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
Did you expect him to do? Go crawl under a
rock and not do this? Would it have been better
for him not to do this?

Speaker 4 (11:36):
I'm sure that these warriors is it brought a smile
to their faces. I won't forget though the past and
under his presidency and that that happened. You know, are
and I love that our historic warriors. They're just a
breed of a different kind. Sadly that it feels like

(11:56):
over the since you know we're talking twenty thirteen is
when shutdown was under Obama, we're kind of seeing less
and less of that breed. But now there's a resurgence
of it Augusto, you know, amongst men, especially young men,
and I thank God for that in our military might's sake.
So sure, of course this was a nice gesture, but
I can't forget. And then the irony of all of

(12:19):
that just isn't lost on me.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
I know, but we don't have to make everything so divisive.
So you know, it was a nice gesture of him. Okay, great,
Like I said, I'm no fan of Obama, but I
can't knock him for doing this, and it was a
nice gesture for him to do on Veterans Day. So
we'll just leave it at that. A's bad news for
turkey lovers this Thanksgiving. Turkey prices will be up forty

(12:43):
percent this Thanksgiving season over last year, largely thanks to
bird flu. The Farm Bureau reports that there were more
than six hundred thousand cases in September and expects that
number to grow as of now. That means turkey will
cost an average of a dollar thirty two a pound.
That's up thirty eight cents from twenty twenty four.

Speaker 4 (13:02):
Now, this is wild because we just had a story,
what in the last few days we was into last
week that the price of Thanksgiving dinner was going down.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Well, other items have gone down, Turkey's going up. And
this explains Remember at the time when I'm like they
were the headline of the story was prices are down
three percent over last year. And then we're going down
the items. Now turkey wasn't on the list, and we're
going down you know how dinner rolls were down twenty
two percent, vegetables were down eighteen percent. We got and

(13:31):
I'm like, how can all this add up to only
three percent? Now we know because the price of turkey's
going up because of bird flu. And we also had
the story last week on how bird flu is decimating
birds in in the European Union.

Speaker 4 (13:47):
Right now, my gosh, we're going to see a run
on turkeys. We're going to see like you know how
people started awarding toilet paper and all the things, or
we're going to see a run on turkey like ahead
of Thanksgiving.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
Like, I don't think a thirty eight cent increase over
last year.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
Is going to cause a rod entis well, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (14:04):
Store shelves could be you know, bare because people are
hoarding turkeys.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
I mean, this is.

Speaker 4 (14:13):
I'm sad to hear that the prices are going up,
although I mean I suppose it could be worse. But
the problem is it's a compounding effect. You know, It's
like every other way we're being hit with price increases.
Whether it's your insurance or well, it's.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
Supply and demand, and it goes in cycles. And you know,
the bird flew. I don't know how it's if it's
being handled any differently than it was under the Biden administration.
But we saw how the farmers were saying, let us,
you know, let us practice the animal husbandry and not

(14:50):
the government forcing us to destroy all of these birds.
And the farmers are taking certain steps to not let
or try to prevent they can't always these birds co
mingle with wild birds. But interestingly enough, conversely to this,

(15:11):
you know where frozen dinners came about. You know the
famous Swanson turkey dinner. It was a surplus of turkeys
that they didn't know what to do with.

Speaker 4 (15:20):
Listen, I'm solving the problem, and you can just get
You're just gonna have to eat toe furky for Thanksgiving.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
Never, not in a million years.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
It's towfood turkey to the rescue.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
No. And you can't look at beef either, because beef
prices are up too, so you'll have to find something out.

Speaker 4 (15:40):
Maybe hot dogs, oh bit chicken, no bird flu affecting
chicken too, I guess I mean hot dogs would be
new hot dogs for Thanksgiving.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
Hot Dogs are so you know, it's part of you know,
hot dogs, apple Pie and Chevrolet Man. So if you
can't afford the Turkey Braby hot dogs in the apple Pie.

Speaker 4 (16:03):
Let's dress it up a little bit and at least
go sausage links or something.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
Thanksgiving.

Speaker 3 (16:09):
I had some dark times in my twenties, and one
Thanksgiving I had nothing but a half a bottle of wine,
an old one too, So hot dogs sounds pretty alright
to me. Poor bless him, that's awful.

Speaker 2 (16:22):
I've had some of those holidays.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
Half a bottle of stale wine.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
You know. In radio, I had to move around a lot,
lived in different cities, and when you're first start out,
you're the low man on the totem pole. So you're
the one working in all the holidays. Right.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
Oh yeah, I've been there, done.

Speaker 2 (16:39):
That, and so yeah, I've had turkey frozen dinners on
Christmas and Thanksgiving when I moved to Charleston. You know,
I moved to Charleston the day before Thanksgiving, and my
first day on the air in Charleston was actually on
Thanksgiving Day, and I went by the.

Speaker 3 (16:55):
Turkey man, Did you really?

Speaker 2 (16:58):
I did? And and I knew nobody when I moved here.
And my turkey dinner for Thanksgiving was a smoked turkey
leg from Harris Teeter.

Speaker 3 (17:09):
Okay, that's not hot dogs. That's not terrible.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
I mean it's not terrible, but it's not like, Oh,
I can't wait to get home to my cold smoked
turkey leg that I bought at Harris Teeter.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
Well things, look at how things turned out.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
I'm not complaining. I'm just saying. And I would have
loved to have half a bottle of stale wine to
go with it.

Speaker 4 (17:31):
Was it in a pinch you could put some chopped
up hot dogs, maybe to bring the smoky flavor to
your stuff.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
I don't know why you're so stuck on the hot dogs.
It was just a sarcast.

Speaker 3 (17:40):
Might be in a pinch this year, and.

Speaker 2 (17:43):
It's certainly better than toe furky. It was a joke,
and I'd much rather sit there and have a hot dog,
you know, and celebrate, you know, the good old American
way hot dogs, apple pie, and Chevrolet. I don't hear
toefurky in that jingle anywhere, And why I don't. We're out,

(18:04):
We're almost out of time, so I can't get too
far into it. But I don't understand. If you think
that we're not supposed to eat meat, then why do
you buy everything that mimics the taste.

Speaker 3 (18:15):
Of meat I've never eaten to?

Speaker 2 (18:17):
But you see my point, Like, Okay, here's a fake hamburger,
and here's fake turkey, and here's fake bacon, and here's
it's like, what, did it just be more healthy to
eat the real thing in you know, a limited amount
than eat some kind of who knows what that's chemically

(18:38):
altered to taste to like what you're trying to avoid eating.
Doesn't make any sense to me, never has and tofurkey
will never cross these lips.

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
