(00:10):
Greetings, my friends. On Apriltwenty ninth and twenty twenty four, I
went on a bit of a rant, a bit of a tie rate.
I had a little attitude problem withCircleville, more so with Hilliard, Ohio.
Had some requests to make sure Iput that up as a podcast.
So it is done. Here itis, and Joy, we've been waiting
for weeks. Okay. They hadthe police chief, the assistant police chief,
(00:32):
the safety director all fired, anda shroud of mystery was around this
story. And I'm not going to, you know, go through and give
you verbatim of the report. Iread through the reports today, the media
coverage, and what it sounds like. Here's my synopsis. If you know
better, feel free to tell memy synopsis. They hire a former Columbus
(00:54):
police officer to be safety director. The chief of Circleville Police has had some
run ins with the guy and said, I don't like him. I don't
want him down here. I thinkhe should get rid of him right now.
And I'm not real happy that youhired him in here without telling me
that you were doing it. I'mthe chief of police. You hire a
safety director and don't tell me he'scoming in because we would have had this
talk and I would have told youwhy. And the mayor said, well,
(01:15):
I did it. It's done. And he said, yeah, well
you did it. You did itsecretively. I don't like that. And
she says, so you're calling mea liar. He said, yeah,
I'm calling you a liar. Soshe against got upset and left the meeting,
and then they saw her leave heroffice and go out to the street.
Here's where the story differs. Chiefcomes out. He says, I
(01:40):
put my hand on her shoulder becauseshe was obviously too upset to drive.
She says, he grabbed my shouldertwo different things. This is where we
have the disconnect. This is wherewe have the disconnect. This sounds like
a family argument. It really does. The chief, as I understand,
it, was the one who wentback inside and called nine to one one
(02:00):
to get an ambulance there for herbecause she was, I guess hyperventilating.
She was very upset over this meetingand the fact that he blatantly called her
a liar. One of the cityadministrators said, hey, you need to
apologize, and he said, no, I'm not apologizing. She hired a
safety director, didn't talk to thechief of police. I don't like the
guy. I don't think he's goodfor Circle Bill. I don't know him,
so don't ask me. And sothey they get in this argument,
(02:24):
and she's angry and he's angry, and Will you did this? And you
should have talked to me. Willyou shouldn't have called me a liar.
This is more like a soap opera. I thought somebody did something. I
mean, said je Zach. Doyou think I'm oversimplifying this thing here?
No, you make complete sense. It makes complete sense. I thought I
(02:46):
was going to see a report. You know, the police were dealing drugs
out of the cruiser trunks or robinhouses when people were on vacation, or
you know, some criminal activity. This sounds honestly like a family quarrel to
me, and believe it or not, I see both both sides of it.
That's how I am to be themayor, to be the boss,
(03:08):
and to have a subordinate being.Your chief of police look at you and
say you are a liar. Okay, you better bring some AMMO for that
fight. Seriously, don't just standhere and call me a liar. I
am the mayor. I understand. While she would be upset being the chief
of police. You hire somebody ina safety director who's going to have this
(03:29):
umbrella authority over me, my department, My actions are procedures and so forth.
You don't even consult me about this, and you bring in somebody from
the big city that I have ahistory with, and I think his presence
here is going to be detrimental tomy performance in my department. Yeah,
I got a problem with you.I see both sides of this argument.
(03:51):
What I don't see is the reasonfor all the drama and the costs of
the taxpayers to buy out contracts when, oh my gosh, you can't.
I'm sorry, you cannot have youremotional battles at taxpayer expens You really can't.
And I love Circleville. It's awonderful town, offers a great deal.
(04:13):
It's a wonderful atmosphere. The peoplethere are are welcoming and friendly,
and the neighborhoods are are you know, for the most part, clean,
well kept streets. And I can'tsay anything bad about Circleville except this.
I am embarrassed on the behalf ofCircleville over what I'm seeing develop here.
Now that we're starting to get detailsI was seriously waiting for some criminal activity.
(04:42):
Instead I see a family's bad Hilliard. I love Hilliard. I mean
I really love Hilliard. I meanI really love Hilliard. I fell in
love with Hilliard several years ago.A celebration at the station, that summer
party that they do, And ifyou've been with me for a while on
Facebook, you see me post videofrom up there and say, hey,
(05:05):
Columbus, this is how it's done. All of these people gathered in this
area together. The band is playing, the children are dancing. There's a
shoulder in his shoulder. There isno erromata of Merrowana in the air.
(05:27):
It is family friendly. Nobody's shooting, nobody's fussing and fights. I went
many times and enjoyed it every singletime. That is a jewel in the
crown of the City of Hilliard.I love Hilliard. That being said,
city council takes a vote and Idon't know why. I don't know a
(05:55):
vote for a call for peace inGaza. There are calls now for the
resignation of the city council president.I don't even think that is necessarily appropriate
because other council members were involved inthe decision as to whether or not this
vote would be taken. Nobody stoppedit. Now the council president after consulting
(06:19):
with other members of council and theyagreed to move it forward. I personally
would not have consulted. I wouldhave banged my presidential gavel and said,
due to a conflict of interest, due to holidays scheduling, this will be
a delayed vote. We'll take itup again in a couple of weeks.
(06:41):
And the President said, well,we already had published the agenda and people
on it. Well, sometimes thingschange, and I believe this would have
been an appropriate time to change ifyou felt the need to even take the
vote. Council passed the resolution onMonday, calling for peace in Gaza.
Resolution came weeks after pro Palestine protesterscame to Council asking them to speak about
(07:03):
the Israel hamas War. I blameColumbus, I blame Chicago, I blame
other big cities. For the mostpart, I believe Democrat run big cities
that continue to feel like they havea place, a need, a responsibility,
a function in international politics. YourHilliard flipping, Ohio, what you
(07:29):
think about Gaza doesn't matter. Bethe best damn Hilliard you can be.
Don't be like Columbus. It isnot incumbent upon you to do this.
Why let's get the townships Prairie Township, Franklin Township, Jackson Township, Madison
(07:50):
Township, Mifflind Township. Let's gettownships to take a position on Gaza.
Why don't we how about Hoa's letyour next Hoa Milie should you have a
vote on? Come on, man, be the best Chillyer you can be,
or Bexley you can be, orUpper Arlington you can be, or
Lincoln Village you can be, orHilltop you can be. Be the best
(08:11):
at what you are, and quitsticking your nose into everybody else's business,
trying to be more prominent and moreimportant on the international stage where you don't
even have a presence. And worstof all, you took the vote.
You decided to take the vote, you thought about it, knew there was
a problem, took the vote onthe first night of passover. That is
(08:33):
not only stupid, but that's offensive. Jewish people right now are subject to
these riots, these sit ins, these threats, these not able to go
into buildings, not able to go, parents paying a ton to have their
kids educated kids can't even go toclass. Does this sound familiar at all
to you? First it was theIsraeli government, then it was Israeli Jews.
(08:54):
Now it's just Jews in general.Does this sound familiar to you at
all? Remember history and remember whichside to be on. That's simple.
Music's up. Time for me tofly. We'll do this again tomorrow night,
unless I get canned. In themeantime, The Power Hour Join me
