Speaker 1 (00:04):
Greeting salutations, welcome my friends to the teams the edition
of the Power Hour. Douglas, you know who you are,
and we take it from there. We get one hour together,
which means I talk really fast and you mustlicit even faster.
My number eight two one nine, eight eighty six, eight
two one WTVN or eight hundred and six to ten WTVN.
On the serious tip today, Columbus City Council once again
(00:25):
just making no sense to me if you're seriously they
took action. They took action last night allegedly to help
protect the rights of renters in the city of Columbus,
the most obvious thing that they could do to help
renters in the city of Columbus. Of course they're not
going to do. And I'm sure, I'm sure there are
(00:45):
reasons for that, but I don't need the lawsuit, so
I won't tell you what I think those reasons are.
But I'm going to get into that momentarily. I also
want to talk about the police chase video that's been
released now, the dash cam from the cruiser, the Columbus
cruiser that was responding when they got the ten three call,
the the officer under fire call from Mifflin Township and
the officer got into a wreck. And the comments, the
(01:08):
comments that I have read, some of you people are
just nuts, nuts, So I got to get into that
too before I get into the serious stuff. Though. Wanting
to tell you, I didn't even know that was it.
Sasha or Malia, one of the Obama girls has changed
her name, but they don't say in this article that
I'm reading from USA today, they don't say what she
(01:29):
changed her name to. If it's Michael, I'm gonna die. Seriously,
I'm just saying, but changed as an attempt to push
away from her famous family is how it's being construed.
But Michelle says that's not the case. She and her
sister just don't want people to think they're not going
to work, that they're freeloaders, that they're going to get
(01:50):
by on a name. Personally, I'm wondering if it's so
when they register as Republicans. Michelle and Barrock don't know.
I'm just saying. Just on the musical front, Rod Stewart,
I didn't get a chance to talk about Rod yesterday,
but I alluded to the story because at the American
Music Awards he was impressive, not so much his voice
(02:10):
because he kind of he almost talked forever young as
opos because he can't hit the high notes. So he's
eighty for goodness sake. But his physical presence on the
stage was quite impressive. That night. He skipped up onto
the stage and I just got a leg cramp thinking
about him skipping up onto the stage. But he skipped
(02:34):
and he came out and the first line of the song,
may the Good Lord Be with You down that sounded good.
But then the second line, it's like, Okay, he's not
even gonna try to reach for the high notes. But
his physical performance was strong. However, he had a Las
Vegas concert scheduled for the first of June and he
canceled that due to some health concerns. So now I'm worried,
(02:56):
I you know, because he was so impressive coming out there,
eighty years old, looking good, dancing and doing his thing,
and I just I hope all goes well for Rod's
to it. I found out something from somebody else canceling
their twenty twenty five tour dates. First of all, I
didn't know they were still touring. Secondly, I had no
idea that prior to the one and only hit that
they ever had. They were in They were in traffic
(03:18):
in Fleetwood, Mac. I didn't know that you have any
idea what I'm talking about. No, you're too young. You
wouldn't know. His name was Dave Mason. He'd had one hit,
it went to number twelve back in nineteen seventy said
this will be you and me, and we just disagree.
It was a mediocre song. I mean, it was cute.
(03:38):
It was kind of along lines of like Captain of
Her Heart or something, but it just, you know, it
was just cute.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Yeah, sounds awful.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
It wasn't much of a song. But for some reason
health concerns and he has apparently he had some sort
of heart infection that he contracted in March and is
canceling all of his dates in twenty twenty five. So
if you were among those who knew Dave Mason was
still touring and we're planning to see him, no that
won't be happening. And last, but not least, probably the
(04:08):
most offensive piece of musical information I have to share
with you today. Somehow, some way, And I'm not sure
how this happened, because every time I hear this song,
I don't see Rick Astley, I see Brian from Family Guy.
(04:29):
I'm not joking. This song, Never Gonna Give You Up,
has now reached one billion streams on Spotify. There was
a time when we had taste. I mean, it's okay,
(04:53):
it's an okay song.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Just that fhy I. My son's here and he isn't
here dancing because he knows his song.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
If you're eleven, it's a great song. I mean, it's
just I don't know personally. When it came to Rick
Astley's career, he had this when you can kill that
now because it's hurting me and making my eyes bleed
a little bit. He had another up tipo song after
Never Going to Give You Up, which was I Can't
remember the name of right over there. Then he released
a third which was a ballad called Cry for Help,
(05:28):
and musically, I actually cry for Help was the what
I really liked it was it was kind of along
the lines of George Michael's Father Figure had that same
kind of feel to it. This is cry for help. See,
(05:57):
this is just more musical than me either a real
piano or a very nice piano patch on a decent synthesizer. Yeah,
that see that I like but it doesn't have anywhere
near a billion streams. Never going to give you up
(06:18):
reaches a billion streams, now, yeah, that's on Spotify.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
That became a meme though, so a lot of people
have used that.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Oh, getting Rick rolled was all over the place. Yeah,
you couldn't get away from that.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Song and this second video. I've never seen cry for
Help the music video. But he looks totally different because
he has long hair, like a different person.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Yes, doesn't look the same, but I'm never going to
give you up.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
I will give Astley two pieces of credit here. First
of all, he used his career. His career is built
on a government grand Did you.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Know that I did not good for him.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
The UK had a program where you could apply for
a grant to go into business, and I believe it
was or something stupid like six hundred pounds or something.
And he said, I want to go to the music business,
and he got the grant and he went to a studio,
he cut a demo and turned that demo into a career.
So I admire that.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
Also, why do they do that in other countries, especially
Germany with movies too, You can get grants to be like, hey,
I'm gonna make a movie and they'll help you.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
That's kind of cool.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Yeah, there's one director who's absolutely terrible who kept making
movies and people are like, how are you getting financed?
It's because he kept getting it through the government, but
even they stopped it.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
I will also give him credit as a musician, a drummer.
Have you seen him sit down at the drums and
do Back in Black?
Speaker 3 (07:39):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (07:40):
I have you showed it to me?
Speaker 1 (07:41):
I showed that. I couldn't believe it. I'm not really
Rick Astley. Really, he's actually a pretty decent drummer, and
singing and drumming at the same time are not the
easiest things to do simultaneously. And he did a very
good job. And the fact that he did Back in
Black for goodness sake was pretty dag gone impressive. Speaking
(08:04):
of Back in Black ac DC in Cleveland this past weekend,
you know, anybody that went, I do not even on
crappy cell phone video of all the people taking videos
that they probably shouldn't have been taking at the concert.
Brian Johnson is still awesome.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
He's never he has that voice. I don't know how
he does that.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
He and that's not his voice. Have you seen the
old Brian Johnson before ac DC.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
Yes, he did not sound saying Michael.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
Boublay, I don't know what happened, but all of a sudden,
somebody stepped on his toe real hard or something. He
went and he said, next thing, you know, he's the
voice of ACDC.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
That's what he said. They asked he goes. People ask me,
how do I sing like I do? I said, the
only thing I can tell you to do is drop
a concrete center block on your foot. Yes, that's all
you can do.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
And he does it well and carried on the tradition. Well, So, anyway,
I saw a lot of people their videos from their
cell phones and ac DC rocked the house in Cleveland.
That was That was awesome to see as well. All right,
so Columbus City Council, and I want you, seriously, if
you think I'm wrong on this, get on the phone
during the briag and tell me. I want you to
line up to tell me. But I think I'm right.
(09:12):
Columbus City Council passing an ordnance last night that is
allegedly to help renters in the city of Columbus with
rental assistance money. You know, here we go another government
program to take care of your bills for you, or
or it just it's it's it's rather annoying if you
(09:37):
and I'm not I'm gonna not gonna bother to read
the story to you about everything that they passed. I'm
going to tell you that here's how I would solve
it if I were at ninety West Broad Street and
and and actually using my brain cells. The one biggest
thing you could do for renters in Columbus, Ohio being
that AEP rate hikes are going into effect, being that
(10:00):
Columbus water and Sewer goes up every time you turn
around because we pass another bond issue or levy. Since
the city builds for water and sewer. If you are
in the city of Columbus and you have access to
public utilities, you should use the public utilities and be
billed by the public utilities. Why I'm talking about these
(10:25):
properties that use the auxiliary what do they call them?
They're third party vendors of your utilities. Basically, so the
City of Columbus charges a ridiculous amount for your water bill,
but then these companies come in and add another thirty
percent to it, and you pay your water bill to
Joe's water company because they are buying the water and
(10:46):
then reselling it to you. It's a public utility. I'm
already upset that utilities are such a profit center for
people when they are things that you need to survive.
But I seriously I have an issue with the fact
that you know you want to make things better for renters.
That's the first thing I would do is stop the landlords,
(11:08):
because you know the landlords are getting the kickback. You
know they are. There's no reason for them otherwise to
not just let the tenants pay the water bill, put
the bill in their name, instead of having a third
party company come in and revent the water services to
the tenant and charge them a markup over what the
(11:31):
government is already charging them to access something they need
to survive. Maybe it's just me.
