Services i'm here In Franklin, county but this situation exists

existing is to ensure the welfare and protect the well
being of our. Children and yet we've had five deaths

in the last fifteen months here In Franklin county of
children that were in, homes in, families in situations which
were under some sort of investigation or interaction with children's.
Services and it is much like WHEN i hear of
domestic terrorism and THE fbi, says, well.

Radar then why didn't you do? Something when you are
investigating these cases going into these households and allegedly protecting,
Children why isn't something? Done why are they left? There
there is an OVERBEARING i believe belief within the children's services,

have children back with their. Families that's an, antiquated quite
frankly antiquated point of, view because when that point of view,
originated families were something much different than what they are.
Today pursuing yesterday's goals with today's realities makes no. Sense

with those, families but nobody was doing. Anything and then

Here was it just a matter of seeing the stories
in the news as it experiences in the past that
you've had with these. Organizations what inspired you to decide
to take this bull by the horns and try to do?

Yeah, so this is not the first time that we've
Seen charnabese cases rise up In Franklin. County you, know
the truth is every day across this great, state there
are children that are in homes where the abuse neglect
that are happening in real, time and whether it is
by the system or by, people, unfortunately these kids never

get the justice they. Deserve and, so you, know WHEN
i heard AND i was hearing, about you, know the
depths over, time but WHEN i heard that it was
five over the last fifteen, MONTHS i started to really
look back at some of the LEGISLATION i was working
on related to a youth out bolz of in office
and thinking about what do we what can we do

as a state to address child abuse neglects in a
more intentional way and give support to our. Counties and
it just kind of took a life of his. OWN
i really started looking, into you, know what the current
system is and how can it be? Better because no
child should be dying because the system failed, them and
that is essentially what happened to these poor young. Souls

AND i think we can be better as a.

State the process, here because this is a work in
process or in, progress is putting it. Together are you
planning on doing any sort of public town hall type
things where people can bring to your your staff their
personal stories to give you maybe a wider view of
the things going.

On, absolutely absolutely mean what the intention? IS i think
it's twofold. One i'm being really intentional about meeting with
all of the system to the local, system the, county
our CC, cps, so The Protective SERVICES, tasa meeting With
Job Family, services meeting with our county. OFFICIALS i, mean

really being intentional about understanding what. Happened AND i get
that there are some pieces of these cases THAT i
might not get informational on because there could be some
legal proceedings following these. Cases but WHAT i want to
see in a, real true fashion is where did the system?
Fail and, then to your, Point, chuck have a real

honest conversation with our community residents about what else is
going on That i'm quite frankly maybe. Missing and then
through those two, conversations we're going to craft a bill
that's really going to, ADDRESS i, believe and provide support
to the counties and ultimately save lives for our young,
babies because, again, no the systems should not be selling

our young kids and the type.

Rote that you have to walk here because you know
there is themblem that there is there's the possibility of
some legal culpability on behalf of these government, agencies and
nobody's going to want to talk about, it but that
is a reality of what you're.

Now, YEAH i, mean WHAT i would say is anytime
you're looking at a system or systemic, issue that's always
going to be part of the. Calculus but WHAT i
will say, is at the end of the, DAY i
just want the system to be right right because these
children lie are at. Stake AND i say a lot

When i'm in The State. House the work that we
do in The State house is literally the difference between
life and. Death and the work THAT i think needs
to be done not just In Franklin, county but really
all Across ohio to protect children from abuse and neglect
of the highest. Order it's not a democratic issue that
A republican issue is a human, issue AND i believe
that we can really get this done when we all work.

or is there anything that the public can do right
now to help you move?

you is and this is something that everyone can do
right now in their own respective. Communities see, something say.
Something you are not a. Stitch if there are children
that are being neglected or abused right in front of,
you you have to show. Up there is top lines

and we can always share those with. You chuck to
let folks know that you're seeing something that just does
not look. Right child abuse is. Changing you, know these
individuals are getting smarter on how they abuse. Children and
unfortunately you may not see marks on a child's, body

but you definitely will understand if the certain actions from the,
child if you're looking at them like there's something. AMISS
i just want folks to recognize that they have power
and there are hotlines and places to call and to
fiul complaints so that we can ultimately intervene if that
is a childhood abused and neglect, occurring to get these

children in places that are safe and ultimately save their.

Life and in beating the child is not necessarily what abuse.
Is our abuse has the definition has evolved over the.
Years you, know domestic violence used to be a man
getting drunk beaten up on his. Wife well now it's
all kinds of, things including some wives that can beat
up on their. Husbands and child abuse is the same.
Way it's not just beating on the. Child it is

it is the, treatment the verbal treatment of the. Child
it is allowing a child to live in. Film when
there are, options when you can get help to get
cleaned up if you got bugs in your, house or
whether they trust me called. Account there's some program that
will help you do. That but when you allow it to,
continue that in itself is, abuse and, unfortunately too many

times they don't recognize. That i've even had A columbus
firefighters to run paramedic units that have told me they've
gone into houses before crawling with, bugs no running water
and have Called children's, services And Children's services still doesn't
feel it's necessary to take children out of that. Environment
AND i don't get. That we've got to expand what
we see as a bad environment and stop limiting to

do with my legislation is to update the code so

how can we get this? Right how can we make
sure that we're supporting our, Communities but most, importantly how
are we making sure we're saving children's lives for the
better so that they can really be productive citizens of the,
State because that's where we want.
