Speaker 1 (00:04):
Greeting salitations. My friends, welcome to another edition of the
Power Hour. I'm set Douglas, you know who you are,
and we take it from there. We get one hour together,
which means I talk really fast and you must listen
even faster. My number eight two one nine, eight eighty
six WTVN or eight hundred six' ten WTV.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
In let me read the quote to. You it goes as.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
FOLLOWS i am willing to look at any, gap any
gap when it comes in, play when it comes to
how we navigate the investigation process for these cases to
get a child in a safe place because they deserve.
It we should not have children dying because the system.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Failed.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
That to, THAT i, say let the church say. AMEN
i have had and continue to have an issue With children's.
Services i'm here In Franklin, county but this situation exists
all over the state Of. Ohio their stated purpose for
existing is to ensure the welfare and protect the well
being of our. Children and yet we've had five deaths

(01:07):
in the last fifteen months here In Franklin county of
children that were in, homes in, families in situations which
were under some sort of investigation or interaction with children's.
Services and it is much like WHEN i hear of
domestic terrorism and THE fbi, says, well.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
He was on our.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Radar then why didn't you do? Something when you are
investigating these cases going into these households and allegedly protecting,
Children why isn't something? Done why are they left? There
there is an OVERBEARING i believe belief within the children's services,

(01:52):
community if you, will that you know it's best to
have children back with their. Families that's an, antiquated quite
frankly antiquated point of, view because when that point of view,
originated families were something much different than what they are.
Today pursuing yesterday's goals with today's realities makes no. Sense

(02:16):
sometimes those children are not better off in those homes
with those, families but nobody was doing. Anything and then
upsteps this young man from The Ohio, legislature representing the
district one in Our house Of. Representatives he is A,
democrat that's, RIGHT i said. IT i don't, care you,

(02:38):
know when it comes to doing the right, THING i
don't care what the party affiliation. Is his name Is
Dontavius gerald's people, say, ah he'll never come on, you
he'll never come on that. Station he'll never come on that.
Show oh yes he. Did let me get him on
here right now on The Legacy Retirement group dot com phone.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
Lines mister gerald how are, you?

Speaker 4 (02:55):
Sir i'm doing. Great how are you, Doing?

Speaker 2 (02:57):
CHUCK i am.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
Rather passionate about this, subject And i'm glad you are with.
Me So i'm doing. Well before we, begin let Me
i'm always a big believer in making sure that the
higher ups know what lower ups are doing YOUR i
believe she's your legislative, Assistant. Stephanie, yes she represents you,
marvelously and give her a pat right. Back the communication

(03:20):
with her was, tremendous And i'm very impressed by.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
Her oh thank. You she's one of the. Best she
in fact worked at The White, house so she's she's
the best of the.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Best hotly. Smokes you did, WELL.

Speaker 4 (03:31):
I think. SO i think, So Dan Tavius.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
Geralds tell me right off the, bat what was your inspiration?
Here was it just a matter of seeing the stories
in the news as it experiences in the past that
you've had with these. Organizations what inspired you to decide
to take this bull by the horns and try to do?

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Something?

Speaker 4 (03:48):
Yeah, so this is not the first time that we've
Seen charnabese cases rise up In Franklin. County you, know
the truth is every day across this great, state there
are children that are in homes where the abuse neglect
that are happening in real, time and whether it is
by the system or by, people, unfortunately these kids never

(04:14):
get the justice they. Deserve and, so you, know WHEN
i heard AND i was hearing, about you, know the
depths over, time but WHEN i heard that it was
five over the last fifteen, MONTHS i started to really
look back at some of the LEGISLATION i was working
on related to a youth out bolz of in office
and thinking about what do we what can we do

(04:35):
as a state to address child abuse neglects in a
more intentional way and give support to our. Counties and
it just kind of took a life of his. OWN
i really started looking, into you, know what the current
system is and how can it be? Better because no
child should be dying because the system failed, them and
that is essentially what happened to these poor young. Souls

(04:57):
AND i think we can be better as a.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
State the process, here because this is a work in
process or in, progress is putting it. Together are you
planning on doing any sort of public town hall type
things where people can bring to your your staff their
personal stories to give you maybe a wider view of
the things going.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
On, absolutely absolutely mean what the intention? IS i think
it's twofold. One i'm being really intentional about meeting with
all of the system to the local, system the, county
our CC, cps, so The Protective SERVICES, tasa meeting With
Job Family, services meeting with our county. OFFICIALS i, mean

(05:40):
really being intentional about understanding what. Happened AND i get
that there are some pieces of these cases THAT i
might not get informational on because there could be some
legal proceedings following these. Cases but WHAT i want to
see in a, real true fashion is where did the system?
Fail and, then to your, Point, chuck have a real

(06:04):
honest conversation with our community residents about what else is
going on That i'm quite frankly maybe. Missing and then
through those two, conversations we're going to craft a bill
that's really going to, ADDRESS i, believe and provide support
to the counties and ultimately save lives for our young,
babies because, again, no the systems should not be selling

(06:26):
our young kids and the type.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
Rote that you have to walk here because you know
there is themblem that there is there's the possibility of
some legal culpability on behalf of these government, agencies and
nobody's going to want to talk about, it but that
is a reality of what you're.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
Pursuing.

Speaker 4 (06:41):
Now, YEAH i, mean WHAT i would say is anytime
you're looking at a system or systemic, issue that's always
going to be part of the. Calculus but WHAT i
will say, is at the end of the, DAY i
just want the system to be right right because these
children lie are at. Stake AND i say a lot

(07:02):
When i'm in The State. House the work that we
do in The State house is literally the difference between
life and. Death and the work THAT i think needs
to be done not just In Franklin, county but really
all Across ohio to protect children from abuse and neglect
of the highest. Order it's not a democratic issue that
A republican issue is a human, issue AND i believe
that we can really get this done when we all work.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
Together do you say, this by the, Way Dantavius, gerald
he's a Representative house Of representatives here in the state
Of ohio for district.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Grow where Is district, one by the, way what does that?

Speaker 4 (07:32):
Encompass, yeah So district one is all Of columbus or Downtown,
Columbus and so you know every district has about one
hundred and twenty thousand. Residents and SO i have the
most centered part of the district Of. Ohio SO i
actually have where the rep where The State house. Is
and if you're in my, office for folks who are,
Listening i'll, say look out the. Window everything that the light,

(07:54):
touches symba's, mind anything that shadow, touches don't, go there's
not my. District and SO i represent the most center
part Of. Ohio if the MIND i like.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
That are we at the stage right now where where
people can do?

Speaker 2 (08:13):
Anything is?

Speaker 3 (08:13):
There is it just kind of a standby know this
is going on and wait for that call to action
or is there anything that the public can do right
now to help you move?

Speaker 4 (08:21):
Along, Chuck that's a great. Question WHAT i will tell
you is and this is something that everyone can do
right now in their own respective. Communities see, something say.
Something you are not a. Stitch if there are children
that are being neglected or abused right in front of,
you you have to show. Up there is top lines

(08:44):
and we can always share those with. You chuck to
let folks know that you're seeing something that just does
not look. Right child abuse is. Changing you, know these
individuals are getting smarter on how they abuse. Children and
unfortunately you may not see marks on a child's, body

(09:05):
but you definitely will understand if the certain actions from the,
child if you're looking at them like there's something. AMISS
i just want folks to recognize that they have power
and there are hotlines and places to call and to
fiul complaints so that we can ultimately intervene if that
is a childhood abused and neglect, occurring to get these

(09:28):
children in places that are safe and ultimately save their.

Speaker 3 (09:31):
Life and in beating the child is not necessarily what abuse.
Is our abuse has the definition has evolved over the.
Years you, know domestic violence used to be a man
getting drunk beaten up on his. Wife well now it's
all kinds of, things including some wives that can beat
up on their. Husbands and child abuse is the same.
Way it's not just beating on the. Child it is

(09:53):
it is the, treatment the verbal treatment of the. Child
it is allowing a child to live in. Film when
there are, options when you can get help to get
cleaned up if you got bugs in your, house or
whether they trust me called. Account there's some program that
will help you do. That but when you allow it to,
continue that in itself is, abuse and, unfortunately too many

(10:15):
times they don't recognize. That i've even had A columbus
firefighters to run paramedic units that have told me they've
gone into houses before crawling with, bugs no running water
and have Called children's, services And Children's services still doesn't
feel it's necessary to take children out of that. Environment
AND i don't get. That we've got to expand what
we see as a bad environment and stop limiting to

(10:40):
these nineteen fifties notions of what a family is and what's.

Speaker 4 (10:43):
Okay, Well, chuck let me tell you. This you, know
we have one of the oldest of hidvice cooled in the,
nation and there are laws that are still on the
books that were from the early nineteen. Hundreds and the truth,
is we don't live in early nineteen hundreds. Anymore we
live in twenty twenty. Five and WHAT i plan to
do with my legislation is to update the code so

(11:05):
that it tells the real experiences of our children today
In ohio and not of the fault foregone, past because
that's the only way that we're going to save lives
and really build a system that includes every Single. Ohioan
and so we got work to, do but you got
the right man for the.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
Job you spoke this to life within the halls of
The Ohio. Legislature do you are you feeling like you've
got some? Backing are you automatically seeing some walls in
front of? You how is it being?

Speaker 4 (11:34):
Received, no no, Walls no. Listen i'll tell you for
folks who are watching, Before i'm sorry folks who are.
Listening you, KNOW i believe this is a bipartisan. Issue
and AS i said, earlier this is not About republicans Or.
Democrats this is about doing what's right for. Children and
when it comes to children and mental health and, addiction

(11:55):
like you rarely see lots of. Polarization is more, so
how can we get this? Right how can we make
sure that we're supporting our, Communities but most, importantly how
are we making sure we're saving children's lives for the
better so that they can really be productive citizens of the,
State because that's where we want.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
Them to grow up to Become, yeah and you're absolutely,
right there is no.

Speaker 3 (12:15):
Politics you AND i probably agree on about ten percent
of the things they are to.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
DISAGREE i agree all but from.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
This saying you've GOT i got your back, completely AND
i appreciate IF i can do anything to promote, it push,
it publicize Whatever i'm at your disposal for that BEFORE
i have to say goodbye to. You is there ANYTHING
i am not asking you about that you feel the
need you want to make sure you get said?

Speaker 4 (12:37):
Today, NO i just want folks to recognize that the
legislature is an, important important place of government where it
truly changes the material conditions of. People and SO i
would love to come back On chuck when we have the,
bill to walk through the tenants of the bill and
give people a real sense of the work that we
do in the State. House it's going to save. Families

(12:59):
and SO i work for, you AS i like to
say regards of Your republican or A, Democrat we're all
public service at, heart and at the end of the,
day this time we build To ohio that we all.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
Deserve State representative Of.

Speaker 3 (13:10):
Geralds you are welcome here absolutely anytime and when it's
time to discuss this.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
Further if we need a.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
Lot of, time because it's very, involved we'll do some
of it on the, air do the rest of us
as a. Podcast put it up on the websites and
the socials and everything so people can hear it in.
DEPTH i truly appreciate your willingness to be here, tonight
AND i truly appreciate what you're trying to.

Speaker 4 (13:28):
Accomplish thank, you, sir appreciate, you and thank you all for.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
Listening we will talk.

Speaker 3 (13:32):
Again, Soon thank you very, much. Sir we're twenty minutes
past the hour, Now travick And weather together from day,
night heating and cooling products and dial. Mechanical how's it,
Going johnny still to come on The Power hour this.
Evening remember the big shooting up there in The Short
north to ten people that were shot and the reason
we can't get brought worst after ten pm in The Short.

(13:53):
North the guy who was driving the getaway car was
caught and he's been. Sentenced and you will not believe
what they call a. Sentence, plus you know the borders
are completely. Safe yeah, Right we've got a man illegally
in THE us arrested in Western, ohio for a Deadly columbus.
Shooting we've also got a couple of people here THAT
ice is Telling Franklin county to detain after stealing hundreds

(14:17):
of thousands of dollars in snap benefits while Eligible americans
are looking at cuts to THEIR ebt. Benefits, YEAH i,
know can't believe. That and, last but not, Least Ridgeview Middle.
School remember the bomb. Threat the police show, up the
secretary and the principal won't let the police officers. In
they got a bomb, threat they, said the bit Death Thank.
Pola they, Well Columbus City schools has come to a.

(14:38):
Conclusion they've issued a statement and once again you're not
going to believe what they had to. Say that is
all still to come in The power hour right now
eight two one, nine eight eighty six my number eight
TWO mewtv in And, diane you're on The Legacy Retirement
group dot com phone line tight hi.

Speaker 5 (14:52):
Check appreciate the. Subject, SO i think a lot of
this abuse is instill from the fact that we've been
desensitized due to aborting. Babies the fact that you know
when you can go in and literally kill a nine

(15:15):
month old baby before it is. DELIVERED i think that
just naturally tells, people those that are inclined to do,
that that it's okay to kill your, children or you,
know to treat your children that.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
Way, well the devaluing of life, OVERALL i, agree abortion
is one of those. Things the fact that we so
readily easily accept homicides and gun violence in our streets.
Anymore we don't even flinch when we hear those stories. Anymore,
now the video game crap that we allow young minds
to soak in and it becomes their. Reality we're doing everything, Wrong,

(15:52):
diane and trying to figure out why the result is
a wrong. Result we're creating.

Speaker 5 (15:57):
This, YES i, agree and there is something that can be,
done especially now and the big beautiful bill they. Are
what was included in that bill is to defund Plan.
Parenthood and if now that it's, passed if everybody will

(16:18):
call their senators and ask them to approve this version
of the, bill it will Defund Planned. Parenthood and already
those People Planned parenthood is already protesting and doing all they,
can and we need to do our. Part that's over

(16:39):
four hundred million dollars they get every. Year they get
forty percent of their funding from. Us the, Taxpayers and
if we want to really make a, difference we can call,
two you, know the two senators in our, state and
everybody needs to do this across the. Country call Their
wishington offices and their local offices and encourage them to

(17:06):
approve This house version of the big beautiful, bill and
it will Defund Planned. Parenthood AND i appreciate the.

Speaker 3 (17:15):
Time you're very, Welcome. Dianea The Planned parenthood money has
always been something that you, know when it comes to
decisions and actions between a woman and her, doctor that's
a much larger. Debate but when it comes to government
funding of what essentially is an extermination, machine And i'm,
sorry it bugs me that the whole, purpose the whole

(17:37):
purpose Of Miss sanger founding the organization was to exterminate black.
Folks that's why it. Existed there's too many of. Them
let's give them this so they can go down there
and get rid of the babies for their born so
there won't be so. Many that's exactly what her racist
behind was attempting to. Accomplish and now we fund it

(17:57):
through our, government and, yeah that's. Distasteful i'm. Concerned the
bigger question of abortion and medical rights and you, know my,
body my choice and so. Forth i've also got issues with,
that but though that's you, KNOW i need a six
hour show to talk about. That every time THAT i

(18:18):
hear you're a, man you don't have any, vote, Yes i'm,
sorry but YEAH i do have a vote because as a,
MAN i would be a. Father and IF i want
to be a father and you don't want to be a,
mother do you have more of a right to kill
the child that you created with me THAN i have
to clean the child THAT i created with. You and
if you decide you don't want to have the, child

(18:39):
THEN i lose my chance at being a. Father but
if you decide you do want to have the child
AND i don't want to be a, Father i'm going
to be paying for what you do want for the
next eighteen. Years so, YES i do Believe i've got
a dog in that, hunt if you know WHAT i.
