Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're one O five to five the X. What's going on?
It is hit Man with you and I've got on
the phone with me an author, an actor, a performer,
mister Rick Springfield. How are you doing, sir?

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Very good?

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Uh? Now you have a new CD DVD that just
actually just came out a couple of weeks ago called
strip Down right.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Oh yeah, that's a live DVD in my solo storyteller show.
That's DVD and a CD in that.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Now are you is this the what you're going to
be doing at Borderfest this Sunday? Or are you doing
a full band?

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Yeah? We're doing the full band show there. It's a big,
loud and hot and sweaty show. Strip Down Show is
a named a story more about as much about the stories.
It is about the songs. And it's just me and
a couple of guitars. But the show we're doing with
you guys is a full band show.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
That's kind of cool, all right? Looking forward to that,
of course it's this Sunday's tickets are still available. It's
a Rick Springfield with lover Boy and the Romantics. Everything
starts at about seven pm at State Farming. To make
sure you still get your tickets. Of course, I'm been
sitting you reading your bile. One of the things I'm
a big fan of is the documentary on Sound City,
and you actually had a big part of this with

(01:07):
Dave Role of the Food Fighters. Tell me about your
experience with that.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
It was great because it was a real important studio
for a lot of people in Sound City. It was
my manager owned that actually, which is why it became
such a deep part of it, of the of the
story that you know, and I recorded all my early
hits there. They said, you know, his life changed the
moment he you know, from before and after never mind

(01:33):
Yavana so and that was recorded there too. So it
was at the important studio for a lot of people.
And he's a great cross paulin Meker days. He got
us all together and I wrote a song with the
Food Fighters and then we went on tour with Stevie
Nanx and John Fogerty and a bunch of people connected
to Sound City and it was just a really great
experience at the end of the main thing too.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
Wow, that's that's I mean, I'm a big fan of
Dave Grole. So anything that has to deal with with you,
with Dave Grole and stuff like that. It's it's it's
really cool. The one thing I'm also uh, you're a
best best author with your first fiction novel called Magnificent Vibration.
Tell me a little bit about that.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Uh, it's I wrote my own autobiography and anout a ghostwriter,
and my publisher like my writing stuff, so she just
suggested that, right, you write a novel. And it is
the first one, and it's uh, basically a story about
a guy who's just finds the phone number uh and
it says call God, and so he does, and God
is actually on the other end of the line, and

(02:33):
God is pretty pissed off the way he's been mishandling
his current planet. And h there's a bit of an
attitude about it. It kind of you know, it's a
dark comedy for sure, and uh has some surprising twists
and turns in some of my philosophy about uh my
view of the world.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
You know, Wow, that that's actually pretty deep.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
You now you've also been you're still doing films. You
actually just finished wrapping up doing a movie with Meryl
Street that's going to be coming out this summer.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Right, coll work in the Flash and uh Well Street
and Kevin Klein was directed by Jonathan Demmy, who did
Fons to the Lands and actually written by the Diablo
Cody's look. You know, so it's been a lot of
great people at home.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Well so so as so you've won a Grammy. Uh
what what would be like if you won an Oscar?

Speaker 2 (03:22):
I's that'd be kind of cool.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
I mean, yeah, we've We've seen movies that Meryl Streep
has been in that that have gone on to win
lots of Oscars and a lot of people that have
been best supporting actors, best actor. You know, you never
know what could happen. You never know you might be
on that stage next year accepting an Oscar.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
Yeah, I mean, I'm in the acting thing for life,
so you know, I mean I think it's it's a
great feal and I love it and I'm being in
as long as as long as I can.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
We're talking with Rick Springfield. Of course. He is performing
with Loverboy and the Romantics. This Sunday show starts at
seven pm. Make sure you make it on our tickets
are still available right now. You can get them at
ticketmaster dot com. You can also get him at the
gate it's going to be a huge festival. When's the
last time you you toured through Texas?

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Yes, I don't know. I'm kind of the wrong guy
to ask that. We'll always had a great I love
Texas audiences, and we've been in and out, you know,
I mean I think we did. We did Dallas a
little while ago, which appy, that's the DVD CD that
is released was filmed in Dallas.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Wow, that's that's actually pretty cool. What's what's going to
be interesting? And I actually told this to Wally uh
the leasing or the Romantics actually the other day is
you're literally going to be five minutes away from Mexico.
So and actually a lot of people from Mexico come
to this festival, so you know you probably have a
huge following also in Mexico.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Right, Yeah, that's right. I did you realize it was
that close? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (04:59):
You you're we're literally going to be from the arena
maybe five minutes away from the border.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Literally, Well, we're really loud to dance, so the ole
here is in Mexico.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
That's really really cool, now, was it? Uh, you've been
doing a lot, You've done other documentaries. One of the
other ones that you did back in twenty twelve was
an Affair of the Heart and uh, you know where
you did a lot of good stuff with your fans. Uh,
tell me a little bit about that. And it was
actually on Epics, the Epics.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Network, right, Yeah, yeah, they ran it. It's a documentary
that I'm pretty sure director did basically because they were
fans and they saw that it's a pretty special group
of people that had been with me a long time,
some of the hard cores, and we we actually have
an event in April where we ran out club met

(05:50):
in Unfortunate Lucy and Florida and take it over and
you know, fans come down and we hang out for
five days and party and lay you know much of
different songs and sit around the pool and play. And
Robin Zander from the Chief Trek is I'm down a
musical guests, I have active friends that come down and
it's a really great way to kind of say thanks

(06:10):
to the fans.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Yeah, I was it. Actually, I was really impressed when
I went on YouTube and I saw some of the
great performances you actually did in a New York City subway.
What how was that experience?

Speaker 2 (06:23):
That was pretty weird. We weren't showing how that was
going to work out. But it was, it was great.
Got a lot of comments. Shows a lot like Rich Springfield.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
All right, we're talking with Rick Springfield. Of course it's
happening this Sunday.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
One last question for you if I could, uh, you know,
some of the bands down here in the Real Grand
Value we promote local rock here in the RGV and
and help promote local bands. In fact, one of the
local bands recently got signed to Razor and Tie Records.
What advice can you give to up and coming local
artists that are trying to to get further into the business.

(06:58):
What would you tell them?

Speaker 2 (07:00):
I don't know. I don't think anyone has any success
new either, and I think there is no you know,
it's certainly the US changed so much anyway, I almost
don't recognize that that the touring thing is always We'll
always love live music, you know, and I certainly the
internet reis a whole new platform to put your music on.
It's really the only thing I ever tell anyone who's

(07:22):
is you've got to really want it. And the three
important things to remembers never give up, never give up,
never give up.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
That advice I have well I greatly appreciate you taking
the time to to to talking to us on the
phone and and looking forward to Sunday with your performance
there at the State Farm Arena. Any last thing you
want to tell your frians?

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Uh? Yeah, what's True Detective Season two?

Speaker 1 (07:46):
I mean, oh yeah, I read about that. Yeah, looking
forward to that. And you're actually in a lot of
other great shows that are coming up too, right, yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
Yeah, really starting to focus on acting? Is you know,
taking time to leave some holes in the touring schedules
that I could bark send actor. I willing to step
that up.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
Well, there you go. We will see you on True Detective.
Looking forward to that and of course looking forward to
seeing you on Sunday. Thank you again, Sarah for taking
the time to talk to us today.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Thanks well, I appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
All right, buddy, we'll see it.
