(00:00):
Hey, we've got a big collegefootball game coming to town January eighth.
But you know there's more than collegefootball. There's food, there's Kids Bop
and we've got the Houston Sports Authorityto tell us all about it on My
Dana Tyson podcast. And thank youGallery Furniture for always sponsoring us. Well,
June, I see you in adifferent capacity. Last time I saw
(00:20):
you, we were at Miller OutdoorTheater. I wear a lot of volunteer
hats in this community. Well you'rea special lady, and now you're with
Houston Sports Authority and we've got somebig times coming up, and I wanted
to have you on so we couldshare with our Sunny viewers and everyone what
we've got going on here in Houstoncoming up next month the National Championship,
(00:44):
the spotlight will be on Houston,All eyes will be here, or the
College Football Playoff National Championship on Juneon January the eighth. But more than
that, it's not just a oneday game. There's so many other things
going on that entire week leading upto the game. Now I know Amanda,
who comes on after me, isgiving away apparently one night Kids Bop
(01:07):
is going to be around kids.MOOP is going to be there one night
that's going to be it's called PlayoffFan Central. Yeah, three nights of
truly exciting concerts, and every nightis kind of a different genre, something
that appeals to everyone. So firstnight, we've got Kids Mop, which
(01:27):
is obviously family friendly, a reallyexciting time for parents and kids. And
then Saturday night it's Lotto and JackHarlowe. So we're going to be getting
our R and B in our rapon on Tuesday night, and then come
Sunday night, it's really really aHouston special night because it's Megan Maroney,
(01:51):
Jake Owen and John Party. Soevery night a different genre and something that
appeals to all Houstonians. That isexcellent, excellent. June, Now I
know that I'm going to be involvedin something that has to do with food.
Absolutely love that topic. A Tasteof the Championship. You know,
Houston, we are known for We'rea food city. People love going out
(02:15):
to our restaurants. Houstonians, Ibelieve, dine out more than even New
Yorkers, and so the Taste ofthe Championship, that's an opportunity for us
to really highlight some of the fabulouschefs and restaurants that we have right here
in Houston, Texas. And again, it's going to be something for everyone.
It's going to be at Minute MayPark over at Union Station. We're
(02:38):
featuring around forty of Houston's top chefs. We've got some of our James Beard
Award winners and then some of ourreally up and coming chefs that are going
to be featured there. I thinkpeople are really going to enjoy it,
you know, an opportunity to enjoysome what I'll call some old school Houston
favorites like Frenchies, Creole Chicken andMemphuzz and Brennan's and then of course Houston
(03:05):
Texas and barbecue. We've got asbest barbecue out there, so Blood Brothers
and Gatlands and Truth and then youknow some of those things that are kind
of unique to Houston. You knowthat Vietnamese cage and mixed you know,
craw fish and noodles and they yes, and that actually I've been talking about
(03:25):
es Fire Magazine's been out with allthese top spots around the country, and
Houston keeps making that list, andI think Crawfish and Noodles was on the
list, and of course Truth barbecue, Blood Brothers. Great things for especially
if you've got people coming into town, take them to these amazing destinations.
Now I know we're going to begiving away this opportunity for our listeners.
(03:47):
How is it going to work forthe public? Tell us what we can
do to be a part of this. Absolutely? Absolutely, We had tickets
for sale for the taste of theChampionship. They can go on our website
Houston twenty twenty four. It's gotall of our events on it. They
can look on there and see notjust the taste of the Championship. They
can also register for the tickets forthe concerts. Did I mention that the
(04:12):
concerts are all free? Get awayregister to get the tickets, but they
are all free. Again, thegame itself is just one night, but
we want to make sure that peoplein Houston have the opportunity to experience the
entire week, the entire pageantry thatgoes into the game. Only you know,
seventy two thousand people will be inthe stadium for the game, but
(04:34):
everybody in Houston can attend the concerts, They can attend Playoff Fans Central,
which is kind of like, Isay, a mini astro world inside the
Georgia R. Brown. But theseare all events. These events, a
lot of them are free of chargefor the public, and anyone can go
their family and kid friendly, andwe want to encourage people to come out
(04:56):
and experience them. You know, you get bummed out when Christmas is over.
Now we've got something fun to lookforward to right through the new year.
Absolutely, absolutely, things are goingto be heating up starting on the
fifth of January. That's when ourfan central opens up down at the George
R. Brown. If you thinkabout how big the George R. Brown,
think of it. As I said, it's going to be kind of
a mini amusement park. There willbe opportunities to meet some of the Hall
(05:21):
of Fame college players. There'll beopportunities to hear from the teams that will
be in the championship game, tohear from the players, to hear from
the coaches, and just to reallyexperience all kinds of things. There's even
going to be a puppy Bowl downthere, oh my gosh, and see
beautiful sweet little puppies. Excellent. Now, I know the pre championship game
(05:44):
is January first, University of Texaspart of it, So we're hoping that
they will make it all the wayto January eighth, when the big event
Happenstely, absolutely, yeah, We'vegot you know, we've got Michigan and
Alabama playing in the Rose Ball, right and that's one of our semi final
games. And then the other semifinal game is of course the Sugar Bowl
in New Orleans featuring the University ofTexas Longhorns. I am a Longhorn,
(06:09):
I'm not supposed to be biased.Wow, I'm staying as neutral as possible.
And they'll be taking on University ofWashington Huskies. So two really great
playoff games then leading up to ourchampionship game then on January the eighth,
right here in Houston. Now,give that website again so people can get
