Cheers, cheers.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
I can't wait to get into this episode. This is
gonna be by the way, fourth of July, right around
the corner, and so you're gonna want to listen to
the whole episode because coming up after our little check
in update, we're gonna give you tips and tricks.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
I'm keeping your dog safe and calm during the fireworks, all.
Speaker 4 (00:46):
Right, the best that you possibly can.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
So, Lauren has had a very busy couple of weeks
with her boy Charlie.
Speaker 5 (00:55):
Yes, yes, what the hell happened? Oh wait wait, I
get a I'll tell you right now. Last episode, who's
that girl that showed up at your house?
Speaker 1 (01:04):
No, no, you tell me who?
Speaker 4 (01:06):
No, that wasn't the last episode. It was his birthday
was the last episode.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Okay, either way, This girl who's her Lauren's new friend,
who's gonna give me a run for my money when
it comes to Charlie, one of Lauren's fur babies. You
can see what he looks like on TikTok, and I
want him. She does apparently brought over a new treat,
(01:31):
new kind of treat. We're not sure this is what happened,
but her dog's good treats and all the love.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
And the scorel was so much better than me. She
probably is. Let's be honest.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
I never said that Charlie's ass exploded. He's been sick
ever since he has.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
It's it's been it's been quite a few.
Speaker 5 (01:48):
Weeks with uh diarrhea and vomiting at my household.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
I hate that for you.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
It was awful, and I felt so badly for my little.
Speaker 5 (01:57):
Boy because he's such a sweet boy, and it was just.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
And this was something new for him, because like, it's
not new for my dog to have vomiting and bile
and all that. It's not She called me up in
a panic, and I'm like, isn't it nice to have
a friend? These dogs has these issues, so he So
what happened? So you have visitors and treats and all that,
and usually usually it's Linda Lou's.
Speaker 5 (02:20):
I was gonna say, Linda Lou also brought over a
cake for his birthday.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
So okay, well maybe it's Linda Lou. But I think
we need to give Linda Lou a little slack.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
Okay, we'll give Linda Lou. And you know, my mother's
never responsible for a.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Right, So so then, so then what happens, like all
of a sudden, he has diarrhea or vomiting.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Which happened first?
Speaker 5 (02:37):
The diarrhea happened first, okay, and it wasn't like every
five minutes or anything like that, but it was like
a lot.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Okay, it's a lot, Oh my god.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
And so I immediately went onto the rice and chicken diet.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
I did, I know you didn't and it didn't work.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
So by how long did you do just and chicken?
Speaker 3 (03:01):
I did it for like two or three days?
Speaker 5 (03:04):
And then you had said to go get the pet
pectal in right, So I went out and I got
that and I started giving him the pet pectal in right.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
And then see, I thought you gave him a little
bit of kibble after day one.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
No, I didn't. I didn't.
Speaker 5 (03:17):
It was after he started getting the pet pectalin. I
was like, okay, well he doesn't. He didn't have diarrhea
for like two days, so I thought, well, great, this
is this is great. I'll get her done little handfuls
of kibble and maybe some of his fresh pet. And
he proceeded to have diarrhea and that's when the vomiting started.
So then my non vet vet friend, she's like, you
(03:41):
have to put him on four small meals and.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
It's got to be chicken and rice.
Speaker 5 (03:45):
And she brought over bread, and she brought over pumpkin
to help take care of him. Yeah, and he went.
He started to be on the men. So I'm still
doing that. We're on I don't even know what day.
But he had a normal pooh the other day, which
I proceeded to text my best friend and six thirty.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
At the crack it dawn, she's like, he Charlie took
a pood. It was perfect. I'm like, hey, listen, I
get it. I take pictures of my dogs.
Speaker 4 (04:10):
I almost was going to take a picture, said it
to you, you should have.
Speaker 5 (04:13):
And so he hasn't had a poos since then, But
we're starting to wean him off the rice. Yeah, and
we are starting to put some little tiny bit of
fresh pet in his food.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
And he's still on four small meals a day.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
I really think. I know people feed their dogs twice
a day. Some people do it once a day. I
do think, like, think about it, you're gonna eat two
meals a day or one meal a day. I'm sorry,
I think they are dogs should always be on three
meals a day.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Yeah, I do.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
If you have time, if you're at work, you can't
do it. But I don't think there's any problem with
keeping your dog on three meals a day. If you
can do it, I would agree. And so he's doing
great on that. So then here's what I was selling, Lauren,
because I've been through it like a trillion times. Your
dog is diarrhea, it's day two, you're freaking out. Go
to the vet, and the vet's gonna tell you bring
me some poop because they might have parasites. Usually, and
(05:04):
my experience and my dog has never had the parasite.
It's usually food related or gastro related. Anyway, they're gonna
tell you bring a poop sample. Okay, you bring it,
and then they're gonna send you home and say do
rice and chicken. If your dog can eat chicken, mine can.
So it was just rice, but they're gonna tell you
to do that for three solid days. They're also gonna
give you anti diarrheal medicine, which is the pet pectalin
(05:25):
that you can get and I'll show you in a
little while.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
At whatever Chewy.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
It's a lot cheaper than one hundred dollars at the
vet for a pill that you have to then shove
down your dog's throat to get them to stop having diarrhea.
Speaker 5 (05:38):
And I would definitely say if you have a dog,
having the pet pectalan on hand is very important. It
worked really really well. He's not even on it right now,
so that's good. But yeah, so that was my adventures
in here. It is pet pectalin and and to two
(06:00):
credit of Bolton Vat, who I know a lot of
people go to Bolton Vat. When I first initially brought
Ali home and that's when I found out that he
had the reaction.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
To beef products.
Speaker 5 (06:12):
I called Bolton Vat and I was trying to schedule
an appointment and they said not yet, put him on
chicken and rice. They didn't want me to bring him
in until he had been on chicken and rice to
rule out that it was like an allergy.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
Or to the beef. Yeah. I will say that a
lot of dogs have a chicken allergy and a beef allergy.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
So, but you would know that anyway.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
Three days it's three days if your dog has diarrhea
and then like the next day they're feeling good and
you're like, oh, it's been twenty four hours. I'm gonn
give him his kibl The diarrhea is gonna come back
three days. Bland diet, no treats, I think would be okay.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
I also found at Big Y.
Speaker 5 (06:48):
I haven't tried it yet, but they sell a canned
Bland diet.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
I'm sorry, but anybody says I get my dog food
at a supermarket, I just I'm like, I have dog envy.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
I've never put dog food at a supermarket.
Speaker 5 (07:04):
But it's, uh, it's like Dave's dog food, and it's
called the Bland diet. So I might try that next
with him and see how that goes. But for right now,
I'm just trying to keep things stabled. I say, don't
rock the apple cart. Make your white rice at home.
Whatever it is so upset the apple cart, rock it,
upset it.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
Don't rock the boat.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Uh, make your white rice, rinse it, make it extra mushy,
and give him a little chicken. And then I would
say that can't whatever canned food you found at the supermarket,
why not keep it, keep it on hand for like
an emergency, right so that if you need it, you
need it. So anyway, Charlie's on the mand And by
the way, Jackson is my dog and is doing great.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
Like he took a giant poop this morning. It was perfect.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
This is what ive I called her dog poop eight o'clock.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
I'm like, oh my god, it was so perfect.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
Today he is now on I still do the white
rice every day, and I think he's probably going forward
gonna just need that. But he's now on purina el,
which is elemental for gastro intestinal problems.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
I had.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
I love my vets. I have two working with me
for my dog. One is an internal medicine vet. One's
a regular VET. But neither one said, hey, want to
try purina el for gastro problems. Now they're like, try
try kangaroo, order camel, get yourself some ostrich.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
I did all that. Okay, no, that's like ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
If you're a dog owner, you're gonna have to source
an ostrich. I tried, it, didn't work. Did my own research.
Came up with purina el. If you have a dog
with a lot of gastro problems, look into it.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
You might like it.
Speaker 5 (08:37):
Well, when I introduced the eggs, she's like, give him
some egg whites, I'm like.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Okay, egg whites.
Speaker 5 (08:45):
Yeah, my house smelt like farts. My dog just didn't
stop farting. Charlie was just so I'm like, oh my gosh,
those gas is horrendous.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
I know, I know, but it is bland.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
And if your dog is a my dog is a
chicken allergy, so I can't give him rice and chicken,
but for some reason he can do the egg whites.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
Well.
Speaker 5 (09:02):
They also when I did a little research online, they
said that the egg whites actually have a soothing property
to that. So that's important. But this kind of leads
into our next kind of subject that we need to
talk about, which is your first aid kit for your pets.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
Well, no, no, it is, I like the first day kit.
But you want to talk about fireworks? First, because I
think dogs get injured during the fireworks.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
Yeah, we can do either or whichever. I don't care.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
You know what, I think. I like your little You
know what, Lauren, we're doing the first day kit. Say hey,
let's do it because before we move on to fireworks.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
You're right, your dogs are gonna get injured during the fireworks,
or they could get injured or get out whatever. First
day kits everybody should have one. We talked about I
think we talked about it. One of our podcasts have
a first daid kit. What are You're a bag, a
doggy diaper bag ready by the door in case something happens.
Speaker 5 (09:57):
Okay, So I think what I learned, even though she
is the non vet vet that has this huge kit,
I am gonna have pet pectolan on hand.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
Yes, thank you, Yeah, because I think it's.
Speaker 5 (10:10):
Important because you never know when your dog is gonna
have any kind of intestinal issues along with any of
these other issues that she has got a whole kit for.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
Here's the thing with a pet pectolan it is it
is like a vanilla flavor. When you go to the
vet and I can't remember if it's Serena, I don't
remember the name of it. It's in here somewhere, but
it's either beef or chicken flavored. So if your dog
has a beef for chicken allergy and you give them
a pill to stop the diarrhea, that's beef for chicken,
You're gonna make matters so much more worse. Absolutely, that
(10:40):
was even a scent of I don't know, so I
would say the first thing in your medical kit.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Mine is excessive.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
Hers is very excessive, So a little.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Doggy extra I would definitely go get. It's called pet
pectolin anti diarrheal. It's a liquid. You just give them
a tea, you just read the directions, a tea spoon
or two liquid on their food or in Jack's case,
when he was really really sick and he wasn't eating,
I put it right in his mouth.
Speaker 4 (11:05):
I put I put it on the bread.
Speaker 5 (11:09):
I take a little piece of bread, just a little piece,
and put a little bit of the pet pect tolen
on it and gave it to char anti diarrhea. The
other thing I always have in my I mean I've
had these forever. You can get these anywhere. It's called
do Wox three. They're wipes.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
They're like anti bacterial, anti fungal wipes. One is a foam.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
One is a wipe. If your dog has any type
of skin, oh, he's got a hotspot, grab it. Grab
this foam.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
The hotspots works great for that, any type of skin injury.
Do it. There you go, that's another thing. What else?
Oh this is for mommy. It's a shot. So it's
an easy shot of Bailey's.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
I just leave a little nip in my just in
case it's calm myself if there's an emergency.
Speaker 5 (11:52):
So it's funny that you have that because I was
thinking about, you know, with all the ticks and everything
around years back, Charlie a little thing on his face yep,
and I.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Was like, oh, it's like a little growth whatever.
Speaker 5 (12:04):
And then he was sitting on my lap and I
noticed that it was it was moving, it was so
I had a shot before I could take the tech.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
It's good to have a shot in your medical kit
as well.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
Well.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
Then that leads me right into what else you should
have and I leave it a little zip bluck bag.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
You can order these online. They're fabulous. It's a tick remover.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
And it's better than you get in tweezers or trying
to pull a tick.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
Off yourself and we're gonna get a whole episode on.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
But I don't know if you've ever seen one of these.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
I have one.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
Uh, They're perfect.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
It's like a little tiny spoon with a slot and
you just slip it right under the tick and lift
the tick up and it takes everything out the head,
the legs and all. I would keep that in my
medical kit too, just in case your dog has a
tick and you have to remove it. I medical kits.
Everybody needs a thermometer. But here's the problem. Make sure
you don't mix up the thermometer with yours.
Speaker 5 (12:53):
Yeah, once it goes into your pet's pooper, you don't
need in your mouth.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
And in line with that, I always keep a mini
jar of vasiline.
Speaker 5 (13:00):
Just because my dog sees me coming with a medical kit,
he is like hiding.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
I'm like, yeah, I'm going to make it easy on you.
I'm gonna lube this up anyway.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
If you take your dog's temperature, it was one hundred
to one hundred and two point five is normal, So
don't freak out. If your dog's temperature is one hundred
or one hundred and one, that's normal.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
That's normal.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
They run a little hotter than we do. But then
my vet recently when I was there, they're using now.
They don't even put this in the pooper.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
They use the ones that you really you push a
button on a person's forehead.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
That's what they're using. And they're doing it in the
dog's groin area.
Speaker 4 (13:37):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
I don't know that I have not upgraded yet.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
My dog will be happy when I upgrade, because I
literally chase them around. And if you're like, I always
keep gloves, plastic gloves in my just in case, just
in case.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
It doesn't bother me to put that in without a glove.
I'm fine.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
I would say that those are the top things you
really should have. Yes, something for diarrhea, something for any
skin infections.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
Oh wait, and one more if you've.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Not heard of Zymox products, it's called zymox Audic Enzyme
solution for your dog's ears.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
Uh that you.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
Do not have to clean your dog's ears first. It
works better on dirty ears, and you just do one.
If you think your dog's brewing an ear infection, yeasty ears, this.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
Is all you need.
Speaker 5 (14:17):
Well. I have ear wipes because Charlie's ears are so
giant and he loves to get outside and roll around
and then they get dirty and he hates those ear
wipes so much.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
You could just use this. I mean this is literally
it's almost like a gel. So if your dog freaks
out with the watery drops like my dog used to,
this is a gel one or two drops in.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
There, and that's perfect for ear infection. So you've got
your thermometer, you've got stuff for ear infections.
Speaker 4 (14:40):
You guys have no idea how much more stuff?
Speaker 3 (14:42):
She?
Speaker 1 (14:42):
Oh, yeah, I would go through this if you wanted
me to go through the whole thing.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
Hell there till the end of the day.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
I won't. I mean, oh wait, and then lastly, can
I add one more?
Speaker 4 (14:50):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (14:50):
You can add one more. Everybody needs to have this.
It's called quick Stop syptic powder. It stops bleeding instantly.
If you're clipping your dog's nails and you clip the
quick you need this. But it also like my dog
has broken a nail before, or if they're bleeding, you
can put this on. I do not cut my dog's
nails because I don't have the skill. I have the
(15:11):
wonderful Nicole Thatcher from Wags and Wind Wags and Wiggles
Mobile Grooming, and she comes to my house and she
cuts my dog's nails.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
It's twenty bucks.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
I got enough bills. I don't need somebody to cut out.
Speaker 5 (15:25):
Well, I understand, but for me, I tried to cut
all these nails and he bit me.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
So I'd rather, you know, keepest nicole too, But.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
Well just make and then lastly again no, if your
dog ever has an issue, and this is what I do,
so I remember, like for you and your new medical
kit that you're going to get one of these days,
you need to write diarrhea down like this sheet of paper.
If my dog is a problem, I say, oh diarrhea,
What did the doctor tell me to do last time?
Speaker 1 (15:52):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (15:52):
Ear infections? What do I got to put in? At
the ziemox? And it has everything that I would need
if my dog had one of those problems again, and
I would and forget all right, I'm gonna do my
shot that was in my medical kit.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
And I think we.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
Should talk about fireworks because we are going into the
fourth of July weekend.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
I know my dog is great, and I will give
you a little tip.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
Lauren is stressed out because her dogs literally stroke out
like most dogs do. Yep, When my dog was a
puppy and I brought him home. I don't know where
I found this tip, but it was the best tip ever.
I don't know if it would work. I mean it
probably could work with.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
An older dog.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
Now, if your dog is really afraid of fireworks, I
read somewhere, take him to the car wash in the car.
You're not like walking through the car wash with your
dog without a car toke not And I would take
my dog once a week when he was a puppy,
for probably six months, I would go get my car washed.
I'd make sure the dog was with me. I'd give
them treats. All of the sounds and the car washing
(16:48):
and the rain. I think that desensitized him right away.
Because my dog has no problem with thunder lightning or fireworks.
Speaker 5 (16:57):
Gracie and Charlie are terrified, terrified. No, and I've tried
everything under the sign. You call me crying, I do.
I'm exhausted, And I'll just tell a quick story about
in my neighborhood. There is a family a few houses
down for me, and they do this giant firework display.
(17:17):
It's not like pew pew, It's like something you see
at Disney.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
On Disney, do.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
The fireworks shows there anyway.
Speaker 5 (17:27):
So it was late for me because I'm you know, old,
but it's still I think you have to It's fine
if you want to have fireworks, I get it. You
have kids, you want to have fun.
Speaker 4 (17:37):
It's a part.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
But be considerate of your neighbors.
Speaker 5 (17:40):
And like people have to go to work, people have
newborns and be shooting them off at eleven o'clock at night.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
I know there's a lot of pet parents that are
like really stressed out this time of year just because
of the fireworks. I mean, I know, I had a
great day years ago, Lauren knows. Yeah, no matter what
I did, the dog was freaking out. Eventually had to
get drugs from the vet, and that poor dog, I
would find him in the bathroom drooling. I don't like
I am less is more. I don't need to give
the drugs, right, Thank goodness. My dog is fine.
Speaker 5 (18:06):
Yep. So this family is setting off this firework display.
It was like ten thirty, eleven o'clock at night.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
Did you I think you called me that.
Speaker 5 (18:15):
I was so upset because my dogs were in the
bathtub on the road.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
Though she didn't I don't put him in there.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
They'd flying in there.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (18:23):
So I was like, that's it.
Speaker 3 (18:24):
I'm going down there and I'm gonna tell him that
he just stop it.
Speaker 5 (18:27):
I start walking down the street barefoot in my pajamas
like a crazy.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
Person, typical Friday night for Lauren.
Speaker 5 (18:35):
And my neighbor came out and he was like, Hey, nope, nope, nope,
go back in the house.
Speaker 4 (18:38):
It's okay, it's gonna stop.
Speaker 5 (18:39):
Like so he kind of diverted me back in the house,
but I was just livid. I'm like, I get it,
Like I used to see fireworks when I was a
kid too, but like there's so many negative effects.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
Like if I have to put.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
Up with it for an hour, I can manage that.
Speaker 4 (18:52):
But when it's all night long and in.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
Three days long, it's never just one night.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
When it's fourth of July, you know, starting probably tomorrow,
people will start. It's just it's going to be never
ending fireworks for the whole for a whole week, oh.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
No, for the entire month of July and August.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
All right, So let's get to how to keep your
dogs safe.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
The first and the very first thing I think is
so important is that day that you know the fireworks
are gonna go off. You need to exercise your pet,
take them for a nice long walk, get them tired.
In fact, I would do it an hour before you
know the fireworks are going to go off, so that
they come home and they're like, they're super sleepy. I
have not Have you ever tried the thunder shirt?
Speaker 4 (19:30):
I have. It did not work.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
Okay, some people say it works. I don't know if
it does.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
It didn't work for my It's like a tight shirt you.
Speaker 1 (19:37):
Would put on your animal. Right, It's like a tight shirt.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
So exercises number one, number two. Have your I always
tell you this too. Are your lord, she calls me,
crying the dogs a go?
Speaker 1 (19:47):
Are the air conditioners on? Is the TV on? Do
you have some music playing so it sounds like a
dance party?
Speaker 3 (19:53):
Like?
Speaker 1 (19:53):
And that doesn't work either for you? They still hear it.
Speaker 5 (19:56):
Yeah, So I went and I looked at the Merrik
and Kennel Club and their tips and so the first
thing that comes up when you search.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
That turn your air industriers on.
Speaker 5 (20:08):
No, it says that fourth of July is the day
that more dogs go missing than any other day of
the year.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
True.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
My great Dane, who was afraid of fireworks one year
ended up three miles from my house. I had let
them out to go to the bathroom of fire went
off and that was the last. So another tip is
make sure you have your dog's harness on the night
of the fireworks.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
Car collar or harness collars sometimes make me nervous because
they're gonna get it.
Speaker 5 (20:34):
What if they're like freaking out and they choke themselves. Well,
I think with the collar your tags. You've got to
have the tags on.
Speaker 1 (20:40):
So if your bags are on my dog's hearts, yes,
if you.
Speaker 5 (20:42):
Have the tags on the harness, but you need to
make sure that that information on the tags is up
to date. Has your current address, your current phone number,
whether it's on the tag or it's on the collar,
it's on the harness. And also make sure that your
microchip information if you have them microchip is up to
date as well.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
I would say leave it.
Speaker 5 (21:00):
If you can leave your dog in, don't let them out,
literally take them for a walk an hour before the fireworks,
let them do his poopy and potty and like you're
not going out until the next days.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
Lets you have an emergency.
Speaker 5 (21:10):
If you have an emergency collar harness tags like have
it on.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
And then the other thing is, don't yell at your dog.
Like I feel like the more you ignore your dog
during the fireworks, the better. The more you go about
your I'm having a dance party and like whatever you're doing.
The minute you sit down with them and go, oh baby,
it's okay, it's gonna be over soon, it just it
gets them jacked up.
Speaker 4 (21:32):
The American kind of club would disagree with you.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
Oh, they said, calm your dog.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
They said, comfort your dog.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
Well, I mean, whatever we can agree to disc that's right.
You don't have to do if you make a big
deal out of it yourself.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
They feed off your energy.
Speaker 2 (21:45):
Absolutely, if you're making a big deal out of it, yeah,
comfort your dog. But I wouldn't be excessive about it,
because then they know something's wrong.
Speaker 5 (21:52):
They also said, and I've done this, put their beds
in your closet.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
They're gonna go there anyway. And you know what, Lauren
put put your dog bed in the bathtub. I know
that's really where I need to put it because they're
gonna be there anyway.
Speaker 4 (22:07):
Yes, they jump in the bathtub. I don't know. It's
just their safety thing.
Speaker 5 (22:09):
But they're saying that, like it's not only the flashing
lights and the noise.
Speaker 3 (22:13):
It's also the scent, and I altern it.
Speaker 4 (22:16):
Yeah, And I also know it's the uncertainty.
Speaker 5 (22:19):
And that's another reason why they're scared during thunderstorms. It's
because they don't know when that next loud sound is
gonna come ye, And so there's this just this feeling
of uneasiness. But when is it gonna pop next, or
when is it gonna thunder next?
Speaker 2 (22:32):
You could, I mean it's a little late now, but
the weeks leading up to it, like play fireworks sound
effects in your house.
Speaker 1 (22:38):
You can't absolutely play some fireworks randomly when you're cooking
dinner and watching TV and not make a big deal
out of it, right, And.
Speaker 5 (22:45):
I think that that was that's desensitizing them as well.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
I just feel bad.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
I feel bad for anybody who's got a dog, an animal,
a horse, any any animal that's afraid of fireworks, because
you are in for a ride the next few days,
the next few weeks, the next few weeks.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (23:00):
So I mean I always feel badly. Ali is not
afraid of fireworks.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
So but here's my question. You've got three dogs, two
are like petrified. Ollie doesn't feed off their their fear
and get afraid.
Speaker 4 (23:14):
No, really, no, not at all. He's fine.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
He's just hanging out. He's looking out the window.
Speaker 5 (23:18):
He's really yes, And you all can see Ali on TikTok.
Speaker 4 (23:22):
He's made his TikTok dabu. Yeah, they're all up there.
I love it, so follow us.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
Yeah, I'm very lucky.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
Like when the fireworks happen around here, I'll go outside
with a martini and Jack and I will sit there
and watch him and he'll be look, oh my god.
Speaker 1 (23:34):
When's the next one.
Speaker 5 (23:35):
No, he's so desensitized that if I ever get another dog,
I will be taking him to the car wash once
a week for six months, because I really think, why
is he not afraid?
Speaker 4 (23:45):
I don't know. There are some dogs that.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
Don't be the car wash, aren't afraid.
Speaker 1 (23:48):
That's true.
Speaker 5 (23:49):
I just I think it's just the nature of your dogs.
I don't know why, but I do everything I can.
I have tried the CBD. I have tried the desensitation.
Speaker 1 (23:58):
It was also on my list the CBD.
Speaker 4 (24:01):
I've tried it.
Speaker 1 (24:02):
It didn't what did it do anything? Did they drool?
Did they get did do anything? No?
Speaker 4 (24:06):
It did nothing.
Speaker 5 (24:07):
So my only question that I would have and if
I was to try the CBD again. Is should it
be given every day leading up to when you think
the fireworks are going to be going off, because then
it's in their system.
Speaker 1 (24:21):
Oh geez, that we have to look that.
Speaker 4 (24:22):
I have to look that one up.
Speaker 2 (24:23):
I mean, I for sure wouldn't just give my dog
CBDA for the first time. I would make sure. I
want to know how they reacted. Well, you know what
I mean, Like you've tried it before the fireworks.
Speaker 5 (24:35):
I did it on the day of the fireworks, like
before that. Had they ever had it before?
Speaker 1 (24:40):
So you yeah, that's what I'm saying, Like you might
want to test it out. I wouldn't, no, but I'm
sure there's other streets that there's a I mean, we
have distilleries or whatever the street dispensary. She does not
smoke marijuana, obviously I don't either, but I know it's
(25:01):
dispensary and I know a distillery.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
Oh well, that's why.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
Dellary is the contail.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
AnyWho you could try that. You can call your vet
and get medication if you want to. That's what I did.
But boy, it sent my dog for a loop. I
thought it was gonna kill him.
Speaker 3 (25:17):
It was It's awful.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
It's awful, awful, awful, awful.
Speaker 5 (25:20):
I just again, I understand it's fireworks, and I'm willing
to deal with it because it is kind of a
national holiday or what you know, But can we cut
it off at like nine thirty ten o'clock? Can Lauren
last time said can we do silent fireworks? I didn't
they have silent fireworks? Everybody wear bringing headphones. Oh my gosh,
(25:43):
they do silent discos. Why can't they do a silent fireworks?
Speaker 3 (25:46):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
But here's another thing I wanted to look into, and
I forgot to do it before this episode. A lot
of groomers, when they're grimming your dog, and I would
suggest it if it was because my dog is floppy years,
they will put cotton in your dog's ears, like a
cotton ball so that water doesn't get in. I'm wondering
if anybody has done this, let me know. I'm wondering
if you could take a cotton ball and just kind
(26:06):
of put it there. I mean, obviously it's not going
to go in your dog's here anyway, but put it
in there before.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
The fireworks and see if that helps.
Speaker 4 (26:13):
I'll try.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
I mean, you might want to try it. Let's look
into it for you, and then you.
Speaker 5 (26:17):
Will try it, and I'll report me and she'll report
because I think you can.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
I think that might be the key for your dogs
is a little cotton ball each year, a little treat,
treat done.
Speaker 4 (26:26):
And all they're going to do the whole time is
just anyway.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
Isn't that The cutest dog with headphones right behind my
head is adorable?
Speaker 4 (26:37):
I love that picture, all right.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
So I would just say, listen, exercise your dog before
the fireworks, get them good and tired, and make your
turn on your air conditioners, your TV.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
There's not much else so you can do at this.
Speaker 5 (26:48):
Point and comfort them be in the bathtub or the
closet or wherever they need.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
Yeah, if they're going to be there, they're going to
be there. And make sure all of your information is
on your dog tag.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
Yes, your microchip is up to date if you have one.
Speaker 5 (27:00):
Make sure all your fences are secure yep.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (27:04):
If you're going out in the back.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
Ye, I would put them on a leash. My dog
would not firework night. My dog is on a leash.
Speaker 4 (27:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (27:11):
I learned the hard way when my great Day went
missing for like a day.
Speaker 4 (27:14):
Yeah, I know.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
All right, well, listen, let's wrap it up. We need
to have another cocktail, but we are going to be
back our next episode. By the way, I'm super excited
for the next episode. It's all about flea and tick.
Speaker 5 (27:27):
I know, I know.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
We have some great all natural options and I have
tested almost all of them out, which is kind of cool.
And I've got a new thing I've been doing ever since.
I've been doing it, no ticks on my dog, and
I'll tell you what it is, okay, and I have.
Speaker 4 (27:41):
Tricks too, do you try to?
Speaker 5 (27:43):
All right, listen, thanks for watching Down with Dogs Podcast.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
Next episodes episode all about fleas and ticks. Boom boom, cheers, cheers.
Speaker 1 (27:51):
And then obviously in all Charlie update, make sure he's
still pooping.
Speaker 5 (27:54):
