Speaker 1 (00:02):
This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera on
Fox Sports fourteen fifty powered by Nova Insurance Services Ensure
your most prized possessions.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Hey good if you wing. Everybody, Welcome to iron the
Ball here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera.
You're Troy Hutches Sin from Arizona Wildcot's on SI and
you're one from Asy Desert Swarm and you're one from
getting almost correct eight almost. We are so close, you're
so close, you're this close, and it may happen. It
(00:36):
may happen that probably should have already happened. Yeah, you
should have, could have? Would it?
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Nine is a really realistic possibility.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Now they might be the strangest nine in whatever team
three team in the history of the program.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
And think about this, if they win a bowl. Let's
say they go nine to three, win a bowl game,
you're ten and three. You have two ten win seasons
in a three year span.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Who would have?
Speaker 3 (00:58):
What a weird way to get to though?
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Good? Good, not bad? And better? Yeah? Who knows? That
seems that seems very Arizona though yeah, yeah, yeah, that's true.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Well it almost it almost is hard to believe two
ten win seasons. I mean, it's only happened four times.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Yeah, well listen, let's look. But yeah, you're right, all right.
This is like putting pumping the brakes real quick, just
like me having a no filter two years ago, last year,
putting a filter on my face and then now put
in another filter on my face because now I'm good
looking or almost there or almost there.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
What a game or the game surprise me.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Uh, I was surprised. I thought they were going to
be able to keep it close. I thought I had
it Cincinnati winning thirty one twenty seven. I didn't think
that they would complete it. And I know they scored
twenty four points. In the long run, they completely shut
down their offense for basically.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Two and a half quarters. Yeah, they did. They did
the first you know, it's like getting hit in the
side of your head and you were stunned when that
when that interception came right away, and then they scored
and I'm thinking, okay, this couldn't and then right away
they scored, right, made it seven to seven. You're thinking, okay,
this could be a game or maybe not. And then
they just kind of had held steady.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
Yeah, and through horrible field goal kicking.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Yeah, they yeah, they can't. They missed three.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
They missed two to the block and the miss and
the one at half. I still look at that replay.
I don't think he made it.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
The one replay, but it did not look good. Regardless,
it did not look good from what ninete. I didn't even.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Think if you look at it, like, you don't see
it really go through the popes and it's like if
that's if it's backed up, Yeah, three more yards he's
missing it.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
But you ever, do you believe in fate? Do you
believe in Cardinal? You believe in all that stuff? I
believe in that, not in not in momentum. But like
I texted you that day of day, this is not momentum.
This is confidence. You can even see. You can even
to me, at least me in my eyes, my aging
eyes could say, God, these guys are paying so well
has this team been? And I'm thinking, God, they must
(03:07):
have a ton of confidence. And it's not must. They
have a bunch of confidence.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
And I know it shocks people, and I know you're
shocked with the result, and I'm kind of shocked with
the result. Let's be honest. They almost be They were
ahead against b YU. They should have probably beat b YU. Yes,
they had a chance to beat Houston after a slow start.
This isn't by accident.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
No, The thing is, I don't even know where to
begin to tell the tale of the accident.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
But how good is the big twelve?
Speaker 2 (03:32):
That's that's another thing. The b y you think now
you look back, he says, Man, just whatever, And then
the Houston thing, Yeah, man, whatever. But the thing is
they didn't pull it off. They pulled it off over
the weekend and now three straight. And I didn't anticipate this.
I said six. They're already ahead of schedule. The one
has a chance of making it eight. Maybe even I
had I had seven, even being wrong with your eight. Yeah,
(03:56):
but more power to them. Congratulations to Brendan. He was
asking a lot of questions. I missed some of the
questions today. Just how he feels, and you could sense them.
I'm sure there's a load off his back. There's a
load off his back.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
I think there's, uh, you know, kind of like Ada
Barnes getting to the National Championship game when she was
in that huddle and she flipped off the everybody. There's
a few moment for this coaching staff because they've been
under so much heat, so much pressure from the fan
base from the moment he was high. I even wrote
about this, the moment he was hired, everybody's like, oh,
(04:29):
that's a terrible hire. He won at throughout the overall record,
he got to two Big Bowl games at San Jose State, well,
crappy facilities, no tradition.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
You're battling the.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Cal Stanfords of the world for recruiting, and now he's
doing that Arizona and people, oh, well, it's not good.
Calm down.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
So one, you're pragmatic, at least I think you are.
So you're here, Uh, there's how many people do you
think are like Troy now thinking that because two three
weeks ago it was like still show me. I may
have been one of those where he hasn't done this,
this and this. Now they're talking like Troy that he
that this is kind of like like we're all happy, giddy, giddy, Yeah,
(05:14):
but a month ago you guys are pooping all over
I mean Bret Brett Brandan made the point of winning
makes everything better? Is that the was that the Brian question.
You did all this you kind of leaded it let
into the you know, like, yeah, now you get you always.
It's it's a true statement and the most true statement
probably ever. Winning does help any situation. Okay, and if
(05:40):
if they go and be by you or even Houston,
they win one of those two games, it's a very
different season. People are talking differently about Brett Brennan like
they are right now, except it's probably a little bit
more amplified nationally. Okay, Okay, that said, what's your reward?
What's your reward this weekend? What should be your reward?
What I mean like for the no but but but
(06:05):
for the biggest but all Tucson.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
The weather. It's too early, it's too cold in my rain.
You know, I got up my Saattica was hurting like something.
Something's gonna come on.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
You're gonna We're gonna call hello. You're on the air
nine of the ball. Who's this, Brian? How's it going, Brian?
Speaker 4 (06:22):
Good?
Speaker 2 (06:22):
How much time we have? Just so? Well? We got
a time? We got time?
Speaker 3 (06:25):
Good?
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Brian? What's up? Well?
Speaker 5 (06:27):
It's you know, I was one of those people and
I give.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
We've lost you.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
We lost you, Brian, but he's still on.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
We lost him, we lost him. Just call back and
called back Brian. Yeah, so that's that's nice that Brian
could call here we going hello. You're back on the air,
is Brian? Oh no, Mikey, Mikey, give me some give
me some love.
Speaker 6 (06:49):
What are you gonna say, g Bro, We're not just
joking on the train, man.
Speaker 7 (06:54):
It wasn't some ban football last year was very tricky.
Relationship with treat Row was that they made the adjustments
of him being a short quarterback. But when when we
ended up running game with him with every CoA, he
used to think the superstar and he can throw docs unfortunately, well,
but I like to do it like when we we
(07:17):
would have beat Mississippi k if we even put Jada
to day guy in and we had him start from
the beginning.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
You feel me, I hear you. I don't know what
I feel you are you coming from?
Speaker 5 (07:29):
You don't feel me. I'm working in town, bro. You
already know how.
Speaker 7 (07:35):
I'm working and I'm calling you listening to I on
the ball. You already know my boys and yard. So
we cowboys tonight, don over in the game.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Go ahead. You can have a good two days here.
If that happens. Oh you know what, yeah, then you
know what?
Speaker 7 (07:54):
Shout out to the desert. You guy, you want to
have to be I coached? Yeah, man, he could be.
And then the weather changy. You know my knees hurting
with the humidity. I love it. We're not we're not
sweating our butt up.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
And you know what I mean.
Speaker 7 (08:10):
Turkeys around the corner. And as the Mexican in America,
my lady, he wanted to make come on before the turkey.
And this is a question. You gotta respect you. Oh
that Christmas stuff really annoyed. You gotta respect James getting
and promoted you come out before you eat your turkey.
(08:33):
They're taking me.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
Un Mexican American. We'll tell go ahead.
Speaker 5 (08:39):
Hopefully we're drinking south.
Speaker 7 (08:41):
Some total tears tonight and the Cowboys win, and a
bunch of guys with the probation of it are gonna
beat that cowboy.
Speaker 8 (08:52):
Y'all.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
Man, you know there's gonna be tears either way, both
both fan bases.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
Thank you to Bobby Show. Here you're back on the air. Hello,
who's this.
Speaker 5 (09:01):
It's Brian.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
We lost you, okay, so go ahead, we have time.
Speaker 5 (09:04):
Yeah. I was just thinking, you know, I was one
of those five and seven people, you know, and you
know and I never wanted to ever get rid of
Brennan because I thought it was the wrong mistake. You'd
give a guy some time to build a program. But
what he's done has just been pretty amazing. You know,
whether we go seven, five, eight, four, nine three, whatever,
(09:25):
you know, he's done. He's done a great job and
deserves a lot of credit. And I just hope people
decide to show up Saturday at eleven o'clock like they're
you know, they're going to find excuses. My kids got soccer,
the tour's going on. Whatever. You know, it's going to
be too cold, it may rain, you know.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
Yeah, you're gonna be one of those? Are you willing
to be one? I'll be at the game.
Speaker 5 (09:46):
I'll be at the game.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
Get there early, at the game, get the early.
Speaker 5 (09:50):
Yeah, you know, traffic, I gotta I gotta fight the
uh the tour in my neighborhood.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
So so where are you at the Yeah, out in Veil,
get getting north and then come across, getting North and
come across.
Speaker 8 (10:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (10:06):
Well yeah it won't be it won't be a problem.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
My party figure out.
Speaker 5 (10:10):
But still, you know, yeah, I just you know that
these guys deserve all the credit.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
In the world.
Speaker 5 (10:15):
And I've never been a big Fafito fan, but what
he's done in the past month or so is just
considering what we have. He's done an amazing job and
he deserves a lot of credit. YEA, hope people come
out and come out and support like they should be.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Yeah, thanks for the call, Brian, good call. Yeah, thank you.
Yeah yeah, so no, I think that any call. Hello,
you're on the air and nine the ball. Who's this?
This is Gil Jill. What's the word?
Speaker 8 (10:42):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (10:43):
Uh, props through all the Wildcats. I was thinking about
getting tickets pack my grand kids to the game. I
turn on the radio and I hear the athletic director
stating that they sold the rights to the name the
name of the stadium, the casino, the full I think
that's absolutely absurd idea. I mean, the whole idea of
(11:05):
a casino being on the name of your football stadium.
I am totally against that, and I'm thinking about not
going to the game, just to pro sure my protest.
I'm sure I'm not. I'm not alone in my thoughts.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
What do you guys think about that?
Speaker 3 (11:21):
I think it's the right move. I think it's the
move that needs to be done. We're in the age
of nil. We're in the in the age of uh,
what am I trying to say? Not in il but
the anyway, I'll continue my thought. But we're in that
age of sports betting. It's all over the place, and
they're in the age of trying to get out of
a financial hold.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
This is how you do it. This is how big times.
Speaker 9 (11:42):
Yeah, pick somebody else, you know, get a bank, get something.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
Out on the back of people the casino.
Speaker 5 (11:50):
Get rich on the back of poor people.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
Who doesn't wait, hold on, hold on, I get what
you're saying. Let me say this. I don't think the
other the people that you're talking about were not available
or they're just not going to do it sixty million.
Who's gonna come up with that besides that? Either that
or you get nothing.
Speaker 5 (12:09):
Well, I think they sold the soulder the devil.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
That's my thought me. I don't disagree with your your
sentiments because I think there's a big faction on your
side as well. But but you know, there's a butt
and I don't even know what the hell of the
butt is. There's the alternative of trying to get it
a dead there's trying They're trying to survive, YadA, YadA.
So to your point, yes, but to the other point yes,
(12:32):
I mean both sides could be true at the same moment.
Does that make sense.
Speaker 5 (12:35):
Well, I probably won't go to the game.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
No, no, And that's that's you're right. I think you
have a right too, unfortunately for them. You know, it's
your decision. Yeah, yeah, Well thanks you for the call. Okay,
thanks for the call. Appreciate your time. We've got one
more call before we got to get up. Hello, you're
on the air and one on the ball.
Speaker 7 (12:52):
I'm sorry I've never called twice, but.
Speaker 6 (12:57):
Time.
Speaker 7 (12:58):
Honestly wait old basket play, basket player players money from
the Ludolphin games man with the current gambling.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
Is a part of football. It's paying always.
Speaker 7 (13:09):
Part of football, is it is what it is our
basketball Like, get these male cards, get off my law night.
I'm protesting good. I don't want to turn the game anyway.
You're a time person to tell me you get down.
Were like, hey, Premium Sea, I can't believe in that
they show us being progressive. Jake Thomas is not a
(13:29):
part of the show. It's not the old man show.
No more freaking you see free thinking and even the
new wave.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
So they like the guns.
Speaker 7 (13:36):
Mat This is a young man, and I can't believe
these male carrots. Get off my lugs or get off
my my my decorated gravel. That that's all I got
to say, bear gal.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
Take your lunch break to take it easy, take you
leunch break, take some sugar in you can.
Speaker 4 (13:51):

Speaker 2 (13:52):
We give out gold stars right there, thank you. We
got to gut minute to good minute. Well we got
to Michael lef here talking about all the things that happened.
You A big basketball win, right, football, big win? So
I mean, come on, this is a huge weekend a
(14:13):
few days Yukon coming up. Yeah, man, it's good to
be a wildcat. Yeah. And who's the guy they called it?
Said he didn't want it. I totally get it, though.
I totally get it because thirty years ago, forty years ago,
they didn't want lines in the paper because of Gamley.
And it's not about that you're paying six they're paying
sixty million dollars to do that. That that ticket fee
(14:35):
that fans are mad about that might go away because
of stuff like this. Yeah, I don't think that ask
was I asked, Okay, that's a good this is a
good question. But my point is things might start to drop,
maybe maybe slowly. In fact, I'm trying to get disre
and the show tomorrow, I'll ask you that questions, specifically,
thank you. Let's go get ahold of Michael.

Steve Rivera He's got his eye on the ball on
Tucson's sports station, Fox Sports fourteen fifty.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
Hey, welcome back to Wine on the Ball here on
Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, your Troy Hutchison,
got Juan here, and now we're trying to get some
level tea, some calmness to Michael Lev. Michae Lev, how
you doing good? How are you guys?
Speaker 13 (19:52):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (19:53):
Okay, we just have fifteen minutes of crazy callers but
we like them. But we like them.
Speaker 3 (19:58):
So you've been here, our people up st about this
the right situation?
Speaker 2 (20:03):
Yeah, what was? So let me let me go here.
I think again, if I'm going to say twelve years
and Tucson, you've seen some highs in your enough or
thirteen something like that. Uh uh, you've been interesting wild
now you've seen the highs and the lows. The last
three four days have been pretty good. Where would they
rank in the weekend for you here?
Speaker 1 (20:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (20:23):
Right?
Speaker 4 (20:23):
I mean you had men's basketball meeting U C l
A and a ranked matchup on Friday, then you had
the football team upsetting Cincinnati on Saturday, and then the
women's team improved to three and zero with they win
on Sunday. So pretty good, well, right, pretty good. It's
definitely been some combos like that in the past, but
(20:43):
it feels like vibes overall are positive in the in
the department right.
Speaker 2 (20:50):
Now that was a trifecta. Let's go for the superfecta
with the fourth today with the naming rights.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
The naming rights, right, yeah, I think this is the
big win for the university, for the for the athletic department,
for the football program. They needed to do this, right.
This is not something they wanted to do necessarily. They
didn't want to change the name of Arizona Stadium. They
needed to change the name and get a naming right
(21:20):
still done. It's long overdue. It's a big infusion of cash.
And as Desiree reference what I mentioned during her news
conference today, like all the costs are going up for everything, right,
I think a lot of people can relate to this,
whether you're running an athletic department or not, Like things
are expensive. And on top of that, you've got revenue
(21:43):
sharing now, right, which is just starting at twenty point
five million dollars, So you've got to come up with
that money from somewhere. You know, you're basically paying players now.
It's going to cost money to keep Danny Gonzalez as
the defensive coordinator and keep set Diggy has the offensive
corda all this type of stuff. So yeah, you got
(22:04):
you gotta do what you gotta do. And I think
it even makes it better that it's like a quote
unquote local local business in a way, as opposed to
some you know, a generic bank or credit union that
doesn't really have any ties to the area.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
So maybe we can ask you the question. I don't
remember his name from the earlier color, but he had
the problem he had was it it's a casino.
Speaker 4 (22:30):
Yeah, I get it. I totally get it. There are
many people who look down upon gambling. I myself don't
engage in it, but I respect those who do. And
I'm sort of a person who believes that we should
(22:51):
have a lot of freedoms to do the things that
we want. There's a line that shouldn't be crossed, right
when it comes to players, for you know, participating in
vetting or coaches. Uh, you know all that We've seen
all of these points shaving scandals and the prop bets
and and all of these types of things. But this
(23:15):
is not They're not bringing a sports book to Arizona Stadium, right.
This is a This is a naming rights deal. It's
a corporate partnership. They've already had deals with casinos, whether
it's signage or being mentioned in an association with this,
that or the other. So I mean, I understand it,
(23:37):
but there are a lot of worst ways that this
could have gone. And if you want to win, if
you want to continue to be competitive on a championship
level in Division one sports, you have to tap every
single revenue source that there is, and that is what
Desiree re Francois is doing.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
You know, from the moment she was hired, during her
opening press conference or shortly after that, the two things
that she had on her table obviously the deficit that
they've been able to get under control. I forget what
the number is right now from that deficit if there
is still one, and then also naming rights. So check
one box, check another. How would you as of right now,
(24:20):
even though it's very early on in her tenure here
at Arizona, Gray Desbray read Francois with the job that
she was given and has done so far in getting
those jobs done.
Speaker 4 (24:31):
Yeah, so far, so good, right. I mean, she hasn't
made that many hires, but the ones that she has
made or worked out pretty well so far. Thinking of
women's golf as one example of that, she's overseen very
(24:51):
promising development and progress by the baseball program, men's basketball
is rolling along. She helped to fix the football problem
that arose a year ago by throwing her support behind
(25:12):
Brent Brennan and as she put it at the time,
and giving him the resources he needed to succeed. You know,
that included, you know, a makeover of the coaching staff,
and I think we can all agree that that's been
a huge factor in the football team's success this year.
I mean, she came in with a difficult job to
(25:33):
get accomplished, right, Like, they had this massive deficit. She
had to get the department finances under control, and she's
done that, and now she's, you know, taking the next step,
right that's naming rights for football stadium, and there's probably
going to be something coming down the pike here with basketball.
(25:54):
She said that the McHale name is going to remain.
I think everyone definitely had a certain like association with that,
But there are ways you can work around that, right
to to to provide some sort of additional revenue source
without besmirching the name of McHale Center. And I guarantee
that she'll she'll be on that and she'll handle it
(26:15):
with the proper the proper reverence.
Speaker 2 (26:18):
Yeah, no, it's it's a good move for some for many,
not a good move for for for others. Right, you're
not going to make everybody happy. Let's go to some sports.
That's what this is about. Basketball. Great game. I thought,
you know, they had the lead, they didn't have the lead.
That came back in great fashion. What were your thoughts
on the basketball game?
Speaker 4 (26:39):
There's super entertaining. They said during the broadcast a couple
of times that it felt like an NCAA regional I agree,
just the intensity level, how hard the two teams were playing.
It really, you know, kind of just illustrated how strong
that rivalry remains, even though the UCLA and Arizona in
(27:00):
the same conference anymore. It was also an example of
what it's going to be like this year with these freshmen.
They are not going to consistent and they bring it
every single game. I think that's an unrealistic expectation. Sometimes
the moment's going to be too much, or the shots
are not going to fall, or they're going to turn
the ball over or whatever, which is why it is
(27:21):
nice to have some veterans that you can fall back on.
And this game on Friday night was all about the veterans, right,
Anthony Delarso coming off the bench, Jaden Bradley again serving
as kind of a closer quote unquote, and then you had,
you know, Toby Waka and Mo Creebas playing together a lot,
which is something that we a lot of us question
(27:43):
whether that could even work because maybe they're you know,
there's no one who can stretch the floor. But man,
their best unit was with those two guys on the floor, Delorso, Bradley,
and probably Braydon Burray's even though he didn't shoot the
ball well, he did a pretty good defensive performance out there.
So yeah, here here for the vets on the team.
(28:08):
You know, it's like we don't We always get excited
by the new guys and the freshman and the five
stars and all that stuff, But you need those wiley
vets to really go a long way in college sports.
We see it all the time. We saw it with
Arizona on Friday night.
Speaker 3 (28:25):
You know, and you talked about the vets and you
brought him up, Jaden Bradley. I think when you go
into most games for Arizona this season, even in the
Big Twelve and during this non conference late of games,
Arizona is going to have the advantage there at the
point guard position, it feels like, and it's because third
year in the system, you don't have a lot of
(28:46):
guys like that left in college basketball anymore.
Speaker 4 (28:51):
Yeah, he's an interesting player because he's not super duper flashy, right, Like,
he doesn't have unbelieve believably good athleticism. But he's smart,
he's savvy, he's a good leader. It feels like early
in the season he's kind of kind of probing, you know,
like sort of standing back a little bit, figuring out
(29:15):
what's gonna work and what's not gonna work, and then
when it comes time to strike, he strikes big time.
Like I posted something on X about you know, his
stat line with I don't I don't know how many
minutes we're laft, maybe ten minutes or eight minutes or something,
hadn't really done that much, and I was like, it's time.
And he obviously felt the same way because he really
(29:36):
turned it on and turned it up over those last
few minutes. I love the sort of the finesse that
he has to his game, like the way he puts
the ball up off the glass when he's driving and
there are taller people trying to block his shot. It's
so it's it's really pretty. It's a little bit old school.
(29:57):
That's kind of his game. He doesn't like even his
his jump shot is almost more like a set shot.
So yeah, he is. He is an invaluable player for
this team to me.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
To me, having covered Jason Terry back in the day
and some of the other guys, he looked a lot
like that when uh, and he must have been inspired
by your tweet. Oh, I got a notification from Michael
liv let's let's put this thing to do put the other.
But he to me, for that game specifically, he looked
a lot like Jason Terry ninety nine when he had
to take over the game because Arizona didn't have anybody
else but takeover to take over the game. Here's the
(30:29):
thing with the with the freshman, I think that CoA.
We we were amazed by his first game, right and
whatever he produced. Now everybody feels that hockey can't do
it every game. It doesn't work that way. It just
doesn't and you can't get it with the guy that's
impressed me so far, and it's maybe baby steps for
me is Crevis. He's uh, he's playing more minutes. He's
doing some things that you we haven't seen before, but
(30:51):
you know it's gonna take time because he was out
a whole year. I think we all expect this seventh
foot or this big dude to be dominant. It's not
who he is. Maybe baby by March, but not right now.
Speaker 4 (31:04):
I like what he's doing on the defensive end. He
is influencing a lot of shots. He is a legit,
like seven to two, and it is it's hard to
replace that type of length. And I think he may
have ended up with only two blocks or so in
that game, but he affected a lot of shots around
(31:25):
the paint and that is an extremely valuable skill set
to have. And he's still kind of finding his way
a little bit offensively, but you did see a couple
nice little baby hooks. People always want him to dunk
the ball more, and he said, I don't mean he's
kind of.
Speaker 2 (31:43):
A finesse big but that's okay.
Speaker 4 (31:47):
As long as he, you know, hits the boards and
is a presence on the defensive end, I think he'll
provide a lot of value for this team.
Speaker 3 (31:56):
And you know, coming up you have to win against UCLA,
coming up Yukon even if they to me, even if
they lose that they don't fall in the rankings. If
they lose a close game to Yukon five three points,
yeah you stay at number four. Because to have those
types of games back back and hit the road like that,
I mean.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
It's a daunting thing right now. No I agree, nor
should they. It's a crazy schedule. But take more power tool.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
And then real quick football wise, just the way no
Fafida has been playing on the road the last three
stretches for Arizona seventy seven completion percentage, seven hundred and
seventy six yards and seven touchdowns and no baps. Just
your thoughts on his performances.
Speaker 4 (32:39):
I noticed that the press conference today, Troy, that you
were asking specifically about the road, and I hadn't really
thought about the fact that he really has arguably been
better on the road this year, or at least lately,
than he has been at home.
Speaker 14 (32:54):
Right.
Speaker 4 (32:54):
Yeah, Like, he was absolutely on point against Houston, he
was a player of the Week against Call. He's kind
of awful a little bit against Kansas at home, and
then he goes and has a really good game at Cincinnati.
I don't know what is behind that. If we get
a chance to talk to him sometime in the near future,
maybe we'll ask maybe he just locks in a little
bit more on the road, or he understands how important
(33:18):
it is that he'd be at his very best. But
I really like the efficiency that he played with against Cincinnati,
and he was super clutch in that game, Like how
many big passes did he make on third down? There
was even a fourth down that he converted. So yeah,
you can just tell I think, you know, with the
exception of that Canvas game where it just looks like
(33:39):
everyone was a little bit off offensively in that game,
but he's feeling more comfortable that Daggy system, right.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
So maybe last question, Michael, what's the game from here?
I thought that, and if you listen to the show,
I don't believe in momentum. I'm not sure if you do.
But I do believe in confidence. And at some point,
maybe in the third or maybe early fourth, I'm thinking
I haven't seen this team confident like this since of Fish.
Speaker 4 (34:04):
Yeah, I know what you're getting at, because it just
felt like they were in control right, like like they're
going to win this game. And then you look at
the final stats they added about gaining Cincinnati by like
one hundred yards or so, which after the way the
game started, you would have never thought that was possible. Yeah,
I was impressed.
Speaker 5 (34:24):
I agree.
Speaker 4 (34:24):
I mean, I do kind of believe in momentum. I
think it's just sort of mislabeled.
Speaker 15 (34:28):
It's really kind of like it's just the it's the emotion,
you know, it's the emotional kind of tenor of the game.
Can can can go in a certain direction based on
what's happening in the game right right, and sometimes there
are a waste that you can stop that and other
times it's.
Speaker 4 (34:44):
Sort of unstoppable. But yeah, they are a confident bunch
right now. There's a good spirit about this team. There's
a mental toughness that I really admire because, as I
wrote before the game, this is the type of game
that they would always lose during my time covering the beat,
(35:04):
Like every single year there'd be this mid to late
November game and kind of a cold weather climate, maybe
it's the week before Senior Day or is the week
before the territorial cop that they would get blown out.
This time they took our business.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
Yeah, more power to them. Okay, Michael, we got to go.
Thanks for your time. As always, Thanks guys. Yeah, tak
care those good stuff. Misplaced. I think that's a great
word misplaced for the momentum thing because it's hard to
label but there's no better word for it. Or you know,
I use run, but momentum I get it. Let's take
a break. Where do you buy exercise equipment?

Speaker 2 (39:31):
Hey, welcome back to Rine the Ball here on Fox
Sports fourteen fifty. We're just trying to solve the world's problems.
Or are these two sons your Troy your one? We
got open lines, open lines. We'll take more calls from
new great listeners. I got some Mike you might come
for the third time. You know, if he's stole on
his lunch break, why not? Why not? Exactly talking about
(39:54):
so I'm talking eleven of good talking to kind of
believes we're believing, you know, same thing in philosophy. I
was saying. So the basketball team's gone right there there.
They took off today right after the Casino Docal Stadium
press conference. Okay, Uh, they'll have a shoot around tomorrow
and out there and we'll see what happens.
Speaker 3 (40:13):
Yeah, another big game, very tough game. And I don't
know if we have a color. But I don't know
if Yukon's great. But that's a tough.
Speaker 2 (40:21):
Yeah, yeah, no question. Hello, you're on the airline the ball.
Who's this?
Speaker 6 (40:26):
Hey, Steve, this is done?
Speaker 2 (40:27):
Are done? And you called me for the time. Good.
Speaker 6 (40:31):
Yeah, I got free a little bit earlier. I'm calling
you from work too. It's not just mikey Okay, go ahead,
but I worked, but I work in my truck, so
it's a little bit quieter here. No, man, you're just
you're talking about you know, the world's problems. I think
Desiree solved a big one. I don't see the problem
(40:54):
with it. They still have alcohol advertised on all the
football games at all, so I don't know what's the problem.
And the other one is she threw her support behind
Brett Brennan even though a lot of people were against it.
I think this guy is he's building. He's building a
program that hopefully is sustainable. The way so far, the
(41:17):
way it looks like it's gonna be the people people
got to buy in.
Speaker 3 (41:22):
Yeah, yeah, And that's that's.
Speaker 6 (41:26):
And the Big Twelve is going and and and there's
no building this thing and going to the top and
sitting at the top of the conference. That's not gonna happen.
It's gonna be a roller coaster. Every game is every
game is gonna be in play. It's one of those
things that when the when the Big Twelve got announced,
you know, Jay brought it up. Nobody there's no scary
(41:48):
monster in this league.
Speaker 2 (41:50):
I mean, so there's no.
Speaker 6 (41:53):
Scary monster unless Texas Tech is able to sustain this
this money thing that they have going. Yeah, but I mean, heck,
you know, this week the Cats looked like you said,
they look confident and everything, but they never lacked for
want to. They've been fighting in every game this year,
(42:16):
and it was a matter of learning how to win.
And now, you know, learning how to win and being
confident in that. Hey, you know, it's just ninety nine yards.
Speaker 2 (42:29):
We get that.
Speaker 6 (42:33):
That was a little surprising, but I mean, they got
it done, and they looked like they knew how to
get it done. And that's the thing is, it's believable
to watch them.
Speaker 2 (42:44):
It's funny because they're seven and three right right, they
could end up ninety three. And I'm not going to
jump the gun here, but just the circumstances of events.
Probably the people who poo poot are kind of maybe
apologizing under the breath, and those who followed are are
very proud of this team because there's no way you
thought this was gonna happen. Does that make sense in
a in a proud moment, I'm sure that's okay. Saturday,
(43:07):
Saturday by one o'clock, two o'clock, you're thinking, hey, Mildred,
do you do you can you imagine?
Speaker 6 (43:13):
Yeah, at the beginning of the season, I was saying
seven and five and with a break or two, eight
and four, And what I was hoping for was for
Brent Brennan to even out his even out his record
and start next year from zero and get and you know,
(43:34):
and hopefully people will will give him a shot.
Speaker 5 (43:37):
And you know, and hopefully.
Speaker 6 (43:40):
People will stop tweeting out what a pathetic crowd it
is at Arizona Stadium. You know what it's gonna be
what it's gonna be until it changes.
Speaker 5 (43:50):
And hopefully, you know, hopefully with this influx.
Speaker 6 (43:53):
Of money, some of these uh I don't.
Speaker 5 (43:55):
Know what what does she call him?
Speaker 6 (43:57):
Competitive? He's is what they added to the ticket prices.
Hopefully that can get a leaved in. These ticket prices
don't don't look so weird.
Speaker 2 (44:09):
Because, like.
Speaker 6 (44:11):
Blink brought up last week about basketball season ticket holders,
right now, if I had the money, I wouldn't buy
a season ticket. If I gotta go, if I got
to spend the weekend in Phoenix to watch Arizona play
a home game against UCLA this year or next year,
however it goes or or whatever. You know, this Connecticut
(44:33):
thing is gonna is that gonna be a not home,
not home series.
Speaker 2 (44:36):
Also, right, No, it's funny because you you know so,
it's funny because you fans. I love the schedule. I
love the schedule overall. But no, you're right. If you're
gonna pay a lot of money, you're gonna get the
Big twelve and that's a fantastic schedule. Two, but you
want to see some of those top teams come into one. Again.
Speaker 3 (44:53):
To Tommy's school, the Connecticut thing is a home and home. Yeah, Ucla,
they tried to make that a home and home, but
you sale not going to do it.
Speaker 2 (45:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (45:02):
And then you have somebody come up to the Championship
Hall of Fame Series say hey, you know what, let's
make it this here. Let's make the the Florida game here,
and let's make the San Diego State game there. It's like, okay, well,
those are going to help us out in RPI and
that doesn't count towards your home schedules. They still have
a lot of home games.
Speaker 2 (45:21):
And it was sure they get some cash or coin
to get some you know, and they need they need that.
Hey real quick, uh done? Are you okay with the
and you made? And I wasn't paying attention to the casino?
Are you okay with that? Oh heck yeah.
Speaker 6 (45:37):
I was hoping he wasn't gonna be some awkward some
software company that nobody has, the people never heard of,
and it'd be some goofy name that didn't make any sense.
Speaker 5 (45:48):
Yeah, I mean, you know, it would have made.
Speaker 6 (45:52):
You know, I mean, it would have been more a
little bit more Tucson if it was called you know,
if they came up with you know, Mitya stadium or
something like that. But I mean, MIT just doesn't have
that kind of money.
Speaker 2 (46:04):
Nobody, nobody really, who else, who else?
Speaker 6 (46:07):
Who else in Tucson does?
Speaker 2 (46:09):
Well, here we go because the naming rights of Michaeale
is gonna come out sometime yep, and we'll see what
that is now.
Speaker 3 (46:15):
Honestly, the naming rights coming out could have been double
hold doubles down. Is that a possibility, because probably not,
but you see what I'm saying. But also other companies
may be racing on something like that. It's like Eg's
does not have the money. No, I hope people are like, hey,
name of that ain't happening. Not gonna be the Jim
(46:35):
click for no, No, don't know. No, thank you.
Speaker 6 (46:40):
You haven't got money, but you don't have that kind.
Speaker 5 (46:42):
Of money, and who does.
Speaker 2 (46:44):
We're in Tucson, you know whatever. Thank you man, Thanks
for calling. Thanks guys, all right, good call.
Speaker 3 (46:51):
I like how I got called out there. If I
realized that he was calling me out, somebody tweeted out
the pathetic crowd that's my tweet exactly.
Speaker 2 (46:59):
That was me and I own up to that one
because it last time and we talked about it. It's
not just you. I've had multiple times this season. I've
tonated out multiple times, here's the problem. What's the solution
other than what we just said earlier. You win solves
a lot of problems. Right, we'll see uh Saturday. I know,
I know the weather's not going to be that great,
but you're you're seeing a good team.
Speaker 3 (47:20):
Now it's a more complicated problem. Yes, there was not
one simple solution.
Speaker 2 (47:25):
And guess what. It hasn't been this year, It's been forever.
It's been since Mike Stoops. Yeah, they did a good
job in the Mike SOPs. There are filling that stadium
most nights. Once Richrod took over and they eliminated the
family section, they got rid of this. Tickets increased, YadA, YadA, YadA,
the steady stadium runov. It kind of just went downhill,
(47:45):
and it's been hard to get back. It's been hard.
I'm wondering, and I don't know if anybody's listening, who
would be able to help me with this question? Is
I'm wondering Tucson has more than a million, maybe twelve
one point two whatever? How many people are from not here?
Are not natives not from here? There a lot sixty
forty forty, fifty to fifty whatever, let's get it. We've
got a last minute call. Hello, you're on the air.
Nine on the ball.
Speaker 6 (48:07):
Hey, Steve is done again.
Speaker 5 (48:08):
No, I knew that was Troy's tweet.
Speaker 2 (48:13):
Just checking.
Speaker 18 (48:14):
That's all.
Speaker 6 (48:14):
We'll catch you next time.
Speaker 2 (48:16):
Yeah, second type of caller, Yeah, sCOD type call. That's
two two in one day. Right, that's crazy, like you've done.
So you know what I'm saying. Because if you have
no affiliation, you're gonna go for entertainment. You're gonna hope
to see a good game. YadA, yeada. There's no cheering
in the press box. If you you that. It depends
on who you are. But yeah, but you know what
I'm saying there, if it's sixty forty or thirty seventy whatever,
I just and we know two songs of transient town. Yeah,
(48:39):
and it's not a wealthy town. It's a comfortable town.
It has hidden wealth that people don't realize. But those
people aren't coming to these games, you know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (48:49):
They're cheering their own team. Yeah, we Wisconsin's or the Michigan's. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
But no, it is the problem. And again it's many
issues that need to be fixed and money many things
that can be touched. And I don't know if that helps.
Speaker 2 (49:02):
Well, you know that you know the problem. The solution
is almost impossible. Yeah, you know, lower tickets. Who knows
if that'll do.
Speaker 3 (49:11):
I don't think you can do that exactly if revenue
share what it is going to be. And that was
the word I was looking for originally A couple of
dollars ago. You're asking a university come up with twenty
million dollars to pay their suiting athletes.
Speaker 2 (49:24):
Well, here's the point. Okay, So now to your question one, Well,
will that alleviate other payments somewhere else? Right? Well, I
doubt it because now you have to it'll be compensated. Now,
we got to find revenue somewhere else, you know, you know,
and donus and dimes or whatever. That damn saying is
that they're not going to do that, because that will
then you'll lose a lot of money.
Speaker 3 (49:44):
Once you do something. Yeah, you don't come back. You
don't come back. You don't come back from that.
Speaker 2 (49:47):
Gas prices, gas prices.
Speaker 3 (49:49):
Food prices, everything that you're saying it, you're saying McDonald's
Happy Meal or Value Meal, what value me?
Speaker 2 (49:55):
They know, happy, unhappy, unhappy meals. Yeah, I don't care
if you give me a toy. But you know what
I'm saying, Yeah, that's a good question. Yeah, but they'll say, oh,
we're gonna look at it whatever. But there's just no
way because that's a revenue stream that you're not gonna
return or maybe have to return it again down the road.
I said that as a fan, as a well, yeah,
I'm still a fan of you. Of a it'd be
(50:16):
amazing to see those ticket prices go down and various
other prices to go down, but you wouldn't be staying
as competitive as you can be. Yeah, in the new
era of nil and stuff like that, transfer portal whatever.
Speaker 3 (50:30):
What you could do is you can come up with
create waves, to create packages, game packages, group packages, stuff
like that at a discounted rate ticket sales. We've seen
it throughout the year fifteen dollars tickets for this, thirty
dollars tickets for that, and then you make it up
in the concessions. I mean, that's how you'll make it
up right there. And you've seen it in concessions, lowering
(50:53):
the coke prices, lowering the soda prices. I mean the
hot dog prices, the popcorn prices, because you know, once
you do that, they're gonna go. But they bought the ticket,
they're gonna go. But you know what, Mom and dad
who brought the kid, one of them is gonna probably
want a beer or two. So then you're gonna make
it up on the beer end. There's ways to make
it up. Yeah, it's all built in.
Speaker 2 (51:14):
Okay, is it time to go? Or look about minutes?
Speaker 7 (51:16):
Es?
Speaker 2 (51:16):
Okay? Okay, no, no good points. Will take some more calls.
We're gonna breaking news, right, breaking news we're gonna have.
I haven't even mentioned the name yet. Bobby Wade, Bobby
Bobby Wade from a u A star here many years
ago of an NFL guy, now the wide receivers coach
for the u A. And them too are doing well
or they too are doing really well receiving them ball.
And that's I think that's what I saw because they
(51:38):
went to nine different dudes right and they I think
one of the passes on the run, it was not
just a catch and drop or whatever, it was a
catch and run. I'm thinking that's why I said this
team looks different.
Speaker 3 (51:49):
Well, what it really stood out to me and I'm
excited to ask him about because we won't get him
to this week. Is Chris Hudson and that get He
absolutely cooked Cincinnati. That was a clinic on how to
be an elite route runner and knowing body positioning and everything.
No matter whose Cincinnati threw out there cooked them. Yeah
(52:09):
cook the eight catches one hundred and something yards, no touchdowns.
I don't just set them up.
Speaker 2 (52:13):
That said, I don't think that you could have scripted
a better game for them to win. Just just impressive
and in every way outside of maybe a kicking game.
Oh by the way, the question to I think you
live asked him about him being upset or being you know,
you know, being upset fantastic. In fact, I loved his
emotions at that moment. Ticket. Yeah, you know you see that.
(52:33):
He doesn't do that very often. I love that only
because people say he doesn't have.
Speaker 3 (52:39):
That, and you know what, he has it, You just
don't they don't just put it on camera all the time.
Speaker 2 (52:44):
As he is. He's passionate. He's a passionate dude. And
he said to the story I posted last week, is
he doesn't need to be great people publicly. You know
it doesn't look good. No, no coach needs to right,
especially in today's world. Okay, it'll be good. Now, let's
take a break
