Sports fourteen fifty.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
I'm Steve Verra. You're Troy.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
You got one with breaking news.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
This is Eye on the Ball breaking news on Fox
Sports fourteen fifty.

Speaker 4 (00:22):
Happy Monday to everyone out there. You're truly miolindo. We're
gonna start off with some Arizona athletic weir's off with
national champions Steve Yes Triathlon won its second straight championship
at the twenty twenty five Women's Collegiate National champions in Tempe.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Coach what's his name? I've had them on Wes Johnson.
He's making everybody else look bad while making Arizona look good.

Speaker 5 (00:45):
Yeah, why can't you guys win like me? Come on, well,
this is death racing. See this guy can do it,
he gets it.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
Kelly Wetland finished with the time of one two o nine.
She's she won the individual championship. So they've had did
they win it last year? Did somebody individually win.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
It last year? I believe I think she won it back.
That's good for them, good for the great for them
actually in a sport that you know is a great
sport to be in. But the pay attention thing is
the problem.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
Yeah, credit to That's a tough thing to to decide
to say, Yeah, I'm gonna do this and I'm gonna
have fun.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
I enjoy doing this, right, I have a hard time
getting to the party a lot.

Speaker 4 (01:33):
At the same time of being a national champion, Johnson
was also named the Division one CCA Coach of the Year.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Well deserved yes, of course.

Speaker 4 (01:41):
Along with Wetland, uh Magoretta Verbola and Ellison Wolf also
earned All American status killing it killing it two in
a row. Women's volleyball has won three in a row.
Another upset win last Friday against Texas Tech.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
And because you covered, you covered a what is did
you give the winner or lost loss? Last one I
had was against Baylor. Are they won on that one?
So what's the deal? Are they good or what's the deal?

Speaker 4 (02:09):
Sometimes they just played down to a team's level. Sometimes
they perform what they're because.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Where they're at. This is their third upset, This is
their yes, second upset in three matches. What's the record?
Fourteen to nine, so above eight and five in conference
which is good, right, yep, Yeah, that's strange because they're
playing they're playing really well at times and not so
well at others.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
They beat number thirteen TCU and then number twenty one
BYU and back to by games before taking on Texas Tech.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
And do you know what I call that? Not momentum
confidence confidence, but this was a revengeon.

Speaker 4 (02:48):
He gets a difference. I do uh what we were
talking about last week? Yeah, there was something about confidence
over over momentum. But a big match this Thursday against
eight as Hu seven o'clock over. The number eight women's
basketball has got off to a two and oh start

(03:09):
after they win yesterday against you see Irvine seventy five
sixty one, MICHAELA. Purdue had thirty one points.

Speaker 5 (03:16):
Stack up the wins. Now, well they got to the
very light non confidence. This is yeah, this is what
Ada did.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
You got to let them know that they can win,
knowing how to win, whether you're beating where you're beating.

Speaker 5 (03:28):
I mean this was a Da Barnes schedule. Yeah, for
a home career. But I get it now, you got
you gotta do it.

Speaker 4 (03:35):
You get to They won't play again until this Sunday
two o'clock against Grambling State. The men's team put a
whooping a little bit on Utah Tech.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
Yeah, they didn't look How can I say this and
then' look interested? Yeah, which, of course that's you know,
you're coming off a big high. Yeah, we're gonna see
this again. Disinteresting because the teams are playing here at home.
I feel sorry for the home crowd that goes.

Speaker 5 (03:59):
There's only one good game at home during the Roberts,
and even even then, very good they had.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
We didn't look at each other at the game. I
did not go.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
That's what it was again, did you go?

Speaker 6 (04:13):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (04:13):
I went.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
What did you think of the crowd? Yeah, that's because
I love the upproject was still yeah empty. Yeah, now
I get it, though, I get it.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
It was a homecoming weekend. You're worried more about some
festivities that were going on at the same time. Again,
Friday had buried on Friday over on University. You had
the big old bonfire for homecoming.

Speaker 5 (04:34):
I still think it's pathetic, you know, that's my word
of the day for Arizona.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
I love Tucson ADU. I've never really left. I mean,
there's people out there I know because I see him
in traffic.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
And here.

Speaker 5 (04:49):
Well, here's the thing with the football same in the
basketball stadium. It's not just too soon. You're talking about
drawing from Oral Valley Marana Green Valley. Sorry, like you
can't draw that that. You can't draw's the problem like
fourteen nine hundred, you can't draw that.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Other and I don't want to say other schools would
kill for this problem. Yeah, yeah, I mean yeah, but
it's Arizona's problem.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
Yeah, and it's tough.

Speaker 5 (05:16):
And for McHale, it's all sold out with season tickets,
so it's going to register sell out every single time.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Yeah, and it's done. I'm sure tickets are available too.
You can god against you taught tech.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
You had three well Cats score eighteen points in Brandon
Burry's co Pete and Anthony del Orso. He also had
eighteen rebounds from Tobya Walka.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Yeah, he was a man out there. Crevas. So what
do you think of crevas? Yeah, you might give me
a voice, very very stiff. It's still not very mobile. Yeah,
but let me say, if you are who you are? Yeah,
is this who he is?

Speaker 5 (05:51):
I think this is who he is and I think
it's I don't want to say a thorn in the side,
But like the coaching staff is sitting there looking like, man,
if we could have just had Henry Bass, Oh no, no,
that's seeing what Henry's doing at North Carolina. Well, we
already saw what he could do here. Yeah, he was fantastic.
It's like this team would be a number one.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
I'm going to guess all over Hendry because I think
he's fantastic. I think he's one of the better players
to come here in the last ten to fifteen years
because you can do so much. And the funny thing
about is that I've heard this twice over the over
the weekend. How come Tommy kept Peva said, not Henry,
that Henry was gonna leave no matter what.

Speaker 5 (06:29):
Well, they thought Henry was coming back, and so did he. Again,
the situation is they thought Henry was coming back, Henry
thought he was coming back. And then again you have
these agents with the team. I vote the players, and
the agents said, hey, guess what, we're going to North Carolina.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Getting paid to get a lot of money. Tommy was
not going.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
To keep it.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
There's just no way they couldn't do it. Yeah, and
Tommy's not that guy. He's not gonna pays no.

Speaker 5 (06:53):
I mean like the people say, well, it's like umar Bollo.
It was Arizona is going to play this player, this player,
this player, and Tommy said, hey, we love you, we
love you, you love us. But guess what, you're probably
not making it to the NBA. Go and make that
two million dollars in Indiana.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
What's he? Where's yet?

Speaker 2 (07:10):
Now? I believe he's playing overseas?

Speaker 3 (07:13):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Yeah, okay?

Speaker 4 (07:15):
But Cole Pete was rewarded for his performances with some awards,
the Big Twelve CO Offensive or just CO Player of
the Week, the Big Twelve Freshman of the Week, the
NCAA Player of the Week of the Week, and NTA
Player the Week.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Really I didn't miss those. Did the you base send
those out or is all on the same they sent
them out on the tweet? Okay, because I missed that.
I missed the national player.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
He was fine.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
I mean, I don't know if you can sustain what
he did, but he's going to come up and down
with that.

Speaker 5 (07:45):
I think his lows will be fifteen points and his
high as will be the thirty something.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
Yeah, we got a call, Low, you're on the air
nine of the ball.

Speaker 3 (07:54):
Who's this? My name is Dan how are you guys
d what's the word?

Speaker 7 (07:59):
Well, you know, I like the fact that I basically
gave up on the game on a football game that
lost my wife's birthday party, and then didn't find out
till we won till the next morning.

Speaker 8 (08:07):
That was pretty cool, actually like that.

Speaker 7 (08:11):
And that I like that that Craig made That was
an incredible play at the end of the first half
where he just stuck the ball over the pylon and
slew the hell out of the bow.

Speaker 8 (08:19):
That was That was pretty phenomenal.

Speaker 7 (08:22):
But when you're talking about lack of participation in the
both stadiums, I mean, the reality is, I'll just say this.

Speaker 8 (08:29):
We've had an aging ticket base.

Speaker 7 (08:31):
That and the younger people are not buying season tickets period.

Speaker 8 (08:34):
That just doesn't happen.

Speaker 7 (08:36):
And they don't, and they're they're competing with Netflix and
five other things and takeout and it's just a different world.
And you remember, Steve in the late nineties when we
played ASU and it was at the football Gate stadium.

Speaker 8 (08:50):
You couldn't slip a piece.

Speaker 7 (08:51):
Of paper between that angry crowd, no way. Everybody was there.
And during the the you know, basketball, if you get
a really intense game like if we play Houston.

Speaker 8 (09:03):
I don't know when we play Houston this year at home,
we may not.

Speaker 7 (09:06):
But if we do a game like that, you'll see
the vast majority of people at the Kale.

Speaker 8 (09:11):
But that aging populace is a lower deck. They can
barely stand much less class. Does that mean they just can't?
I mean I'm loud when I'm there.

Speaker 7 (09:20):
I mean I was loud during every riddle, which was
truly the JV. I mean that was those guys got
a good check for driving down I seventeen.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
Well, let me tell you something because obviously you go
to games in basketball, specifically, so I've got here in
eighty seven, and the biggest complaint then was the blue hairs, right,
it has never changed. That has never changed because then
the kids who had are the kids of those kids
that had, were the parents that had those tickets, and
now the old ones. I mean, you're never going to
solve that problem.

Speaker 5 (09:49):
Well, we need.

Speaker 7 (09:51):
The other thing is they should have cloned the the oh.

Speaker 8 (09:55):
Man while he was alive.

Speaker 7 (09:56):
That guy was that was just there was nothing like that,
stripping off five thousand suits of red underwear and all
those crazy those.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
Dude, do you go to the games regularly.

Speaker 7 (10:08):
It's what I end up doing is sharing the package
with another friends, so we spread it out over like
five people.

Speaker 8 (10:14):
That's another issue.

Speaker 7 (10:15):
Like in the basketball all the tickets are bought, but
what you really have is one season ticket holder who
has like four seats.

Speaker 8 (10:22):
And then they give you it up with other dudes
and get the tickets to each other. And half the
time people don't go.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
My book.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
Somebody somebody bought one book, an they're sharing it with
everybody else.

Speaker 8 (10:37):
They split they're getting a twenty left.

Speaker 6 (10:42):
That's right, you're not getting the pull left.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
You get it any go to business school. It's an
take care gentlemen.

Speaker 5 (10:52):
No, that's a great point, and it is. It is
true because it's an old it's an aging fan base,
and you have a lot of people from Wyoming, somewhere else,
Iowa coming in Chicago.

Speaker 3 (11:04):
You got that point.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
But I'm seeing the younger group is not buying tickets
to go unless start sharing that one ticket.

Speaker 6 (11:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (11:11):
It's a conversation I've had with my friend group for
the last couple of years. As we start to graduate
from the universities that we're at, where how are we
gonna get season tickets? Well, let's all pull our money
together and then we each get five games of the season. Yeah,
so it's a it's a realistic conversation for basketball, yes,
well no, no, for football.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
For football, No, basketball is not the solve that we
need to do. No football you have.

Speaker 5 (11:35):
I mean basketball you have to pay I think it's
a thousand dollars to the Wildcat Club before you can
even purchase the tickets for season tickets. Football it's not
that expensive. But I think the issue is not necessarily
very young people, because they're the students going to the games.
And you've seen the students going to these games. It's
that we'll say twenty five to.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
The recently rankings.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
Can't you get a couple of tickets?

Speaker 3 (12:01):
Please? Yes?

Speaker 2 (12:01):
Could you put me in the non sun area? Hello,
you're on the air round of the ball.

Speaker 6 (12:08):
Who's this?

Speaker 3 (12:09):
It's Brian.

Speaker 6 (12:10):
How's it going?

Speaker 2 (12:10):
Hey, Brian, we've got about two minutes. We've got to
go two minutes.

Speaker 6 (12:14):
Okay. It was a good game Saturday, and uh only
because we won. Otherwise it was a crappy game. I really,
you know, if you watched if it wasn't a really
well played game for either team. But we won, you know,
and finally we learned how to win a game that
we were gonna lose, right, And I thought that was
probably the most important thing.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
And I just hope now.

Speaker 6 (12:35):
People will just get off Brandon's back and say, Okay,
he's gonna be here next year. He'd better be. I
I don't want him getting, you know, losing the job,
even if we lose out the rest of the season,
because I don't feel like starting all over with a
brand new coach and then we're gonna have a crappy
two years again and then no far that guy, you know, yeah,

(12:56):
and you know, I just don't. I just don't want
that to happen. We could, Brendan is building something here.
Give them the opportunity. You know, it takes takes a
few years, especially in today's football, especially since we don't
have the money to pay all the really good players
like everybody else does.

Speaker 7 (13:12):
Don I agree with you, bro, Okay, Yeah, I mean,
I mean, the crowd was the crowd was great on
the west side because it was in the shade, you know.

Speaker 6 (13:19):
The other side, the other side was terrible. Yeah, I
was there. I was on the west side.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
Smart man, you smart man.

Speaker 6 (13:29):
Yeah, you know, to me, if if if you know,
hopefully we don't have.

Speaker 5 (13:34):
They announced the time for the Baylor game that is
going to be announced on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
I believe right. Yeah, I just hope they don't.

Speaker 6 (13:45):
Do another day game. I don't know what it is
that people complain all games are late. I could see
like a five o'clock game would be great on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
You're you're terrific.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
Your voice to God's ears same here at five six seven.

Speaker 6 (13:58):
Yeah, that would be great because you know people are
going to fine. I can't go because my kids got soccer.
You know, I can't go too early. You know I
can't do this.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Direction.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
Thanks.

Speaker 6 (14:10):
Thanks, There's always there's always an excuse.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
Thanks, Bryan, appreciate it. Even the callers agree with us.
Oh real quick, there was almost a rank five.

Speaker 3 (14:20):
We gotta go.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
Yeah, I appreciate. I didn't even get through half of five.
They were produced. I think the Athletic had them at
number two. When he says Arizonas got out of the
gate real quick and did really well. They played two games,
had a tough game with Texas. I mean, it's a
long road.

Speaker 5 (14:37):
Very I was surprised they got ringked to that high.
Me too, now am I surprise they got in the
top ten. No, they should be a top ten team.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
Yeah, they were impressive, there's no doubt about that. But let's,
you know, put pup the brakes a little.

Speaker 5 (14:50):
I would have maybe seven or eight.

Speaker 3 (14:51):
Yeah, I agree, I agree.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
And and it's gonna fluctuate a lot this year, I
think once they hit that schedule of the Big two. Okay,
let's go, come and then come back with a caller.

Put us up to speed.

Speaker 2 (20:25):
You're gonna have the ribbon cutting on Wednesday, right. How
long has it been in the works to get to us,
to get to this point, a minimum of twenty five years.
People have been community citizens have been.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
Working on this for twenty five years.

Speaker 9 (20:42):
Wow.

Speaker 14 (20:42):
And it'd start and it'd fall apart and start again,
and they'd look for funding and it'd falled. Finally a
individual donor and their foundation stepped forward and paid for
the whole thing privately funded.

Speaker 3 (20:57):
What did it pick up speed? Well, it was about.

Speaker 14 (21:02):
Five years ago and it just kind of was a
progression of things where the go kart track out there,
they were talking about building a NASCAR track and the
county said, no, we don't want a big, old, huge
NASCAR track, and they sort of evolved into bicycling and

(21:23):
how about a bike track, and they said, yeah, we
maybe could do that, and they started investigating. At one
point they were going to buy a track that's functioning
right now in Boulder, Colorado, take it apart and ship
it out. And then they figured that by the time
they took it apart and put it back together, it's
made out of wood, that it would just fall apart
down here. And then they evolved onto this guy, Peter Junich,

(21:47):
who's the world's most prolific track builder twenty eight tracks,
and he had this idea ten years ago to build
an aluminum track and he believed that that's the future
because you can't get good wood anymore. Even the indoor
wood tracks are falling apart in four years. So he
made a proposal to this visionary in Tucson, longtime Tucson family.

(22:09):
And this individual not a track racer, a little bit
of bike rider, but in his vision he said, this
makes sense. You put an aluminum track outdoors in our environment,
it's going to last for a long time and the
community can really get involved and embrace it. So that's
really how it started happening. And then they put two
and two together and it's amazing, it really is. It's

(22:32):
monumental that the Tucson now has an Olympics. They're only
one other Olympic velodrome in the whole United States, and
that's the Los Angeles they use for the Olympics. So
this is the second one in the United States and
the first one.

Speaker 3 (22:48):
In the world. It's aluminum.

Speaker 5 (22:50):
And you know, Tucson being such a big outdoors, bicyclean
and stuff like that, community, active sports community. Just the
importance and the impact that this will have on the
community of Tucson.

Speaker 14 (23:02):
Absolutely And in the winter down here, you think you
were in the Tour de France. The rides we go
on on the road is all these progue jerseys and
team cars and I mean the population of a very
good cyclist and enthusiasts in the winter, it's got a
quadruple and now they have a velodrome, world class velodrome.

Speaker 3 (23:25):
It's just going to enhance that even more so.

Speaker 2 (23:28):
The first thing when I heard about the aluminum, and
tell me how dumb I am.

Speaker 3 (23:32):
Naive I am.

Speaker 2 (23:33):
The last thing that I want to do is fall
down because of the Tucson heat. But it has nothing
to do with that, right, absolutely, you bring a really
good point.

Speaker 3 (23:41):
Let me I'll step back a second.

Speaker 14 (23:44):
The reason they went with aluminum, and this whole track
is basically floating. It's trapped down so it doesn't take
off like a flying saucer, but it moves two and
a half inches on either end from the cold in
the morning till the heat in the afternoon. And it's
design and engineered specifically to handle that kind of movement.
But the track surface itself stays absolutely flat. I mean,

(24:08):
it's forty two degree banking, but you don't have any
dips or humps or anything else.

Speaker 3 (24:12):
It rides beautifully.

Speaker 14 (24:14):
And so the engineer has been down there and they've
been laying thermometers on asphalt, on concrete, and then on
the aluminum track. The aluminum track is forty percent cooler
than asphalt and twenty percent cooler than concrete, mostly because
it's a heat sink. Underneath the velodrome is shade and

(24:35):
it sucks the heat right from the top of the
surface through to the cooler side, and even last summer
when they were building, you could put your hand on
it at one hundred and fifteen degrees and it was
still a little bit cool to the touch. So it's
amazing how I don't think that was the initial intent,
but as it turned out in this desert environment, it's spectacular.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
You're a former cyclist in this world. Who were you
born twenty years too early, thirty years.

Speaker 3 (25:03):
Too early for this well, for this track, I was,
but I've had my fair share.

Speaker 14 (25:10):
I'm just looking to pass on that experience to others
and future generations. And the key point of this is, yes,
it's a world class velodrome, but it's really for our community.

Speaker 3 (25:24):
It's to bring our community along. The juniors can go
out there and be safe.

Speaker 14 (25:28):
They're not going to get hit by a car, they're
not going to get lost, they're not going to.

Speaker 3 (25:32):
Be chased by dogs.

Speaker 14 (25:33):
They can go out and be safe and still a
real thrilling environment, and we can bring them along and
this is a lifetime sport. Yes, some of them might
evolve and turn out to be Olympians or something else,
but we believe more importantly that we're really creating citizens
and trying to get kids and adults off their iPads
and computers and get them out doing something active in

(25:56):
a community, because it really creates the community. You're on
the velodrome, you're all riding fixed gear bikes, you're having
fun in between sessions, are working out, you sit in
the infield, and you talk about all.

Speaker 3 (26:08):
Sorts of things.

Speaker 14 (26:08):
So it really creates a sense of community and it
supports the vital cycling community we have here already.

Speaker 5 (26:17):
With the ribbon cutting ceremony. Just give us some more
details in terms of timing stuff that might be taking
place out of if you guys have vendors, stuff like
that out there just for the ribbon Cundy ceremony, and
how people can get involved going over there for that ceremony.

Speaker 14 (26:33):
Perfect ribbon cutting is Wednesday, this coming Wednesday, the actual ribbing.
The ceremony starts at six point thirty. The gates will
open at six. Prior to that, the news and press
will be there at five o'clock to shoot some of
our juniors and some other people just riding the track.

Speaker 3 (26:53):
But we're not going to have anybody riding during.

Speaker 14 (26:55):
The ceremony because there are too many people and it
wouldn't be safe with all those people out on the velodrome.

Speaker 3 (27:01):
In the track.

Speaker 14 (27:02):
We don't want to have somebody a bike run into
somebody walking on the track. So but six point thirty
is the is the actual ceremony start. We're expecting quite
a few representatives from Tucson City and City Council and
the mayor and quite a few Pima County people also,
along with a whole bunch of the interests. Has been

(27:24):
just astronomical locally all the cyclists and enthusiasts that want
to see it and want to become part of it.

Speaker 3 (27:31):
So we're excited. But six thirty it's about a forty five.

Speaker 14 (27:34):
Minute presentation and you'll be able to see it. You'll
be able to see the engineering of it. It's a
spectacular venue. When you drive up and those lights are on,
you think you're you're looking at a flying saucer coming
out of the ground.

Speaker 3 (27:47):
It's it's beautiful.

Speaker 2 (27:49):
So I know a lot of what I know a
lot of cyclists. Does it translate over and you know,
if you're training for a tour or you're training for
you know, do you ride in no gallas for the
gravel or whatever? Does it translate, and do you think
it's gonna be a lot of interest because this is
a cyclist in Mecca.

Speaker 14 (28:09):
Well, in the reality track, cycling enhances all other types
of riding.

Speaker 3 (28:17):
And the reason I say that is you're on a fixed.

Speaker 14 (28:20):
Gear and things you learn how to maneuver your bike
and handle your bike, and the types of exercise and
riding drills that you do really enhance visually every other
type of cycling you might do. It might not help
mountain biking as much as the others, but gravel and
road and all the other things that we're doing, it's

(28:41):
a huge enhancer for that. You learn how to look
way ahead, you learn how to control your bike, and
the workout is phenomenal. It is really a good workout,
and it's more of an interval kind of a training
than it is riding one hundred miles in El Tour.

Speaker 3 (28:58):
It's shorter, little more intense bursts.

Speaker 14 (29:01):
Of energy than it is just a long, long, long
ride and you're on a fixed gear and that really
enhances your pedal stroke. So there is no coasting and
they're no brakes, so it's it takes a little learning
to get on there, but we're going to hold certification classes.

Speaker 3 (29:22):
So that everybody that wants to come out there. They
have two venues.

Speaker 14 (29:25):
One is just an introductory to the track and that
they just click on that and they and they sign
up for that, and there's a professional instructor that will
get them on the track and get them comfortable on
the warm up circle, then on the apron which is
a flat circle, and get them up in the track
just so they can experience it. The most people are

(29:45):
going to sign up for the certifications, and there are
four levels of certification.

Speaker 3 (29:49):
Level one is for CAT one.

Speaker 14 (29:51):
Two three track racers, so they all have previous track
racing experience, a one hour certification, and then they're eligible
for the open training sessions with membership. Level two is one,
two three, four road racers and four or five track
racers is two hour certification, and then most people will
be in the level C, which is road riders that

(30:12):
are comfortable riding in a pack and comfortable doing a
rotating paceline. So that's the prerequisite for us to get
them up on the track and to feel comfortable and
be able to be certified and ride with other people
on the track so they're safe for themselves and they're
safe for everybody else out there, and that C level
is two two hour certifications and it's very gradual and

(30:34):
very progressive. You build upon a skill and then start
another skill. So it's really progressive because it can be
a little intimidating to see a forty two degree banking
and thinking, oh my gosh, how am I going to
do that?

Speaker 3 (30:47):
Well, you don't do that straight away.

Speaker 14 (30:49):
We take you very gradually up until you're comfortable, and
by the end of four hours you're completely comfortable.

Speaker 3 (30:55):
On the track and you can go ride with other
people out there.

Speaker 14 (30:58):
And realistically, that's is far safer than riding on the
loop because everybody in the track their lines that dictate
where you ride and how you ride, and if you're
riding and a rider overtakes you, they always pass over
the top, where if you're on the loop, you really
don't know what those other people are going to do.
They haven't been trained and certified this. Everybody has gone

(31:21):
through the same training, so you can predict exactly what's
going to happen.

Speaker 2 (31:25):
Right, last question, real quick, I'm assuming now that it's
only the second one of its kind in the United
States that a lot of people, a lot of hopefuls
Olympians will be out here getting ready for the big
event in twenty twenty eight.

Speaker 14 (31:41):
Yeah, you've you've hit on top of it, and that's
a good topic to talk about because we are going
to predominantly take care of our local community. Already, the
Women's Olympic track coach cycling track coach has been out
here a number of other inquiries from your and Mexico
and for their track program to come in and we

(32:03):
will let them rent the track during our non prime times,
but we're not going to take away from our local
community versus them. They can do it when the rest
of the people can't get there, but we're not going
to take away from our local community. Our juniors and
our other riders and enthusiasts in this community will have

(32:24):
our first priority at all times. But already, the women's
team Olympic track team, they're planning two weeks in Tucson
for a camp and they'll have five to seven days
on the Belodrome, but they'll be during the mid.

Speaker 3 (32:40):
Day when others we don't have programs scheduled for our
local riders.

Speaker 14 (32:46):
So you really hit on a key point, and that's
the success the Belodromes that are successful around the country
are ones that focus on their local community, and ours
vary from summer to winter, they really vary. But we're
still going to focus on our local community and our juniors.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
Great to hear that. Thank you very much for joining us.
Good luck on Wednesday night.

Speaker 14 (33:10):
All right, everybody's welcome to come out. Nope, they won't
be don't bring your bike, there won't be riding.

Speaker 3 (33:15):
Okay, good to hear. Thanks Dye, all right, I appreciate it.
All right, thanks thee.

Speaker 2 (33:19):

I thought we were talking about we were talking to
I didn't think we're talking about talking about the co
opete com the comparison and everybody has kind of the
own answer. If you want to give us a call
and let us know who you think he kind of
looks like or plays like. And like I said before,
I think he's a combination of a lot of different dudes.
Because of his jumper, he's not a great he's not

(38:15):
a good shooter. From distance, which is fine. I mean
that was did you see my Facebook post about that.
The athletic did a big, a big analysis of all
the freshmen that are you know, shining here. They had
him as the eighth best freshman. I think it was eight, eighth,
seventh or eighth. There's so because there's so many good ones.
Are the Boozers and or the cameraon Boozer and some

(38:36):
of the others. The Kansas kid, b y u kid,
there's a bunch uh and he had You can't deny
he had a fantastic first game.

Speaker 3 (38:47):
Your buddy, your buddy.

Speaker 2 (38:48):
I won't say who's buddy, but who the buddy is
talked about DeAndre Ayton. Realistically, DeAndre Ayton didn't have.

Speaker 3 (38:56):
A good first freshman year. He was just he was
DeAndre et He was.

Speaker 5 (39:01):
Just a man amongst yeah boys.

Speaker 2 (39:03):
And that's how he survived in the whole career of
his high school career. He was he was better than him.

Speaker 5 (39:09):
Yeah, and he didn't really have to try to be better.

Speaker 3 (39:12):
Right, how'd he doing it with likeers? Anyway?

Speaker 5 (39:15):
Good enough now until he's good Okay, once he loses interests,
you're done. Yeah, pretty much as as a bitter Suns fan,
tell you DeAndre Aiden will work.

Speaker 2 (39:26):
Out for I mean he had this one moment moment
with the inbound play I think it was.

Speaker 5 (39:30):
Yeah, it helped him get to the NBA Finals, and
then they said, hey, we're not giving you a Max
Steel and shut it down. He shut it down and
lost all interests.

Speaker 4 (39:38):
Sixteen point eight points per game, eight rebounds per game.

Speaker 5 (39:41):
That's what he should be doing. But that's what he's
done his whole career.

Speaker 2 (39:44):
Yeah, that's that's what he should be doing.

Speaker 5 (39:45):
He wakes up and he does that. Yeah, if he,
if he, if he gave it his whole effort, dedication,
he could average twenty five and twelve.

Speaker 2 (39:54):
He's white about twenty nine ish now, yeah, maybe twenty seven. Yeah, well,
driven by different things twenty seven. Yeah, we're all driven
by different things. He does not love the game. No, No,
Brian Williams comes to.

Speaker 3 (40:09):
Mind with that.

Speaker 2 (40:09):
You know, just a big dude who loved being a
big dude in playing whenever you wanted to. He had
the same symptoms of that.

Speaker 5 (40:15):
Yeah, but no, Cola. You look at the freshman class.
I saw a mock draft that had him going number
five overall overall in the NBA Draft.

Speaker 3 (40:25):
Who are the people before freshman?

Speaker 5 (40:27):
I'm sure b Yu guy ahead of him, Cameron Boozer
ahead of him, and I don't remember the full list,
but those two definitely.

Speaker 2 (40:34):
Was it a recent one or that was after the
floor again? Okay, okay, it's hard to believe that they
just saw him for the first time. I mean, he's
here for a reason. He's good, but there's so many
other good Here's my problem too, I guess, I guess.
I had some friends coming from out of town and
we sat together and he said, how's ever going to go?

Speaker 1 (40:52):
Do?

Speaker 2 (40:52):
Be grated? I said, then maybe fifteenth or whatever. He says,
what that recruiting class coming in and the team's coming
back or the guys come back, and I'm saying, you
have fifteenth. He says, how they got so many good players?
It says other teams have pretty good players. Not only
that you're young, young, right, and you're two games in,
but I'm seeing I'm thinking, just because you have the
nicest house on the block, go to another block because

(41:16):
they have nice houses there too, and other schools do
produce pretty good teams. Seventeen's fine. People were talking today,
Oh they're gonna be good. There's ranked fifth, blah blah blah,
and I'm thinking, and what does being fit ranked fifth today?

Speaker 5 (41:28):
I mean, you know, if we if we get Tommy
this week ahead of the UCLA game, and I'm sure
Bruce will say, you know, talk about fifth, and he's
gonna say, Bruise, Bruce poison. It's I don't care. I
don't I don't care. It doesn't matter right now, it does.

Speaker 2 (41:43):
I've been doing this a long time, thirty some years,
and I can tell you Arizona's been ranked a number
of times in the top two, top one. You know
what it meant, not a damn thing. Because at the
end of the day, come March, that's when you need
to be rated, rated, not even rated. That's what you
need to show how.

Speaker 3 (42:01):
Good you are.

Speaker 5 (42:02):
You need to be trending in the right direction and
playing your best brand of basketball. Yes at that time, okay,
so let me you need to be playing with confidence, confident,
no question.

Speaker 2 (42:11):
You guys, you followed it for years, You've been going
to school all this time. Have they underachieved or overachieved
in the tournament March? Most most of the time underachieved, underachieved, underachieved.

Speaker 4 (42:22):
I would say the only time they overachieved, did just
met their their standard? What is Tommy's first year? Did
bring the resume?

Speaker 5 (42:32):
They got kicked out in the sweet sixteen and got
humbled and they were a number one seed.

Speaker 4 (42:36):
All they taught that team was ready though, which one
Tommy's first team with Matherine.

Speaker 5 (42:40):
I think they were soft? Yes, exactly the game showed that,
But I'm just saying they were a number one seed.
They were rolling teams throughout the year. Then they get
punched in the mouth.

Speaker 4 (42:51):
And when you play every riddle for twenty five out
of the thirty games, though, what did what.

Speaker 2 (42:56):
Did they do in November that year? I'm sure they
looked fantastic. Oh they have a mini tournament in Michigan
and which to state? What did that mean four months later?
That's my point. I'm not trying to be a hard ass,
but but I lived this, lived this for thirty Look.

Speaker 5 (43:12):
At last year's team. Everybody wanted to fire Tommy Lloyd
after going what was it like four and five?

Speaker 2 (43:16):
Yeah, and guess what?

Speaker 5 (43:17):
But guess what they were ready for the turn That
team last season is his best team he's coached. Probably
that team would have punch punched the other his first
year's team in the mouth. The one that really overachieved,
in my opinion was Sean Miller's second season. Derek Williams
the Duke game, getting to the lead day, they came
one shot away from getting to a Final four and
probably went in a national title. They just clicked at

(43:38):
the right time. Kyle Fop was playing well, Solomon Hill
was playing Yell Era moment with Jones obviously, Derek Williams
like everything was just clicking. Yeah, and that was probably
his least talented team that got to an the.

Speaker 2 (43:50):
Lad A probably Yeah, time and circumstance, but he march
has to matter more now than ever. Yeah, because five times.
You know, I'm not trying to be but I'm just
saying that's what.

Speaker 3 (44:03):
It is today. It means nothing.

Speaker 2 (44:05):
Just because you, uh do well now doesn't mean you're
gonna do well later.

Speaker 5 (44:10):
You know what Kansas firstly too, you know what Kansas
was ranking last year? Want to start one to one? Yeah,
where they finished first round exit two years in a
row or maybe they no, they want Yeah, we were
at that game. They should have lost that game. But yeah,
in Utah, I think it was so Yeah, you and
you and Brian Yeah, yeah, yeah, the trip road trips.

Speaker 2 (44:32):
I don't remind me of Vegas by the way back
going maybe too, so we'll see the compstill. I mean,
he's a different you know, we talked about I talked
about Pete.

Speaker 3 (44:46):
Said Pete Williams.

Speaker 2 (44:47):
But it's funny it's Pete Williams from twenty years ago.

Speaker 3 (44:50):
Now that he played. He's just too thin.

Speaker 2 (44:52):
And I agree with Bob, but you know how I
see Pete now in my thicker, stronger, YadA YadA.

Speaker 5 (44:58):
I think, uh Brian Williams kind of footwork under the basket,
Derrick Williams with this kind of a I think. I
think it's a little bit stronger, stronger.

Speaker 2 (45:09):
Oh yeah than Derek oh I total degree, total degree,
and he's got that. He doesn't.

Speaker 3 (45:13):
He's not an excitable kid, you know, he's just.

Speaker 4 (45:16):
Kind of he actually reminds me of Noah or we'll
have this like nice throw or spectacular playing his business
as usual.

Speaker 5 (45:25):
He's not excitable except okay, I'm gonna say this, and
I'm sure football fans will get mad at me, except
he's a much more talented.

Speaker 2 (45:32):
Uh CoA CoA yeah. Yeah, But here's the problem with
Noah here's not no problem with Noah. He's the guy
you want as your quarterback, Yes, because that's what you
just want. A leader who gets the job done, you
don't need.

Speaker 5 (45:44):
Anything and knows how to get everybody involved.

Speaker 2 (45:47):
Dude, I get Let's remember the kid and you guys
know the name from LSU the transferred in.

Speaker 3 (45:52):
Randall.

Speaker 2 (45:54):
Great arm can throw a mile you just need you
need to throw the guy ten yards away.

Speaker 3 (45:59):
We don't need a mile back.

Speaker 5 (46:00):
They do at that ball ten yards right in front
of me. That's going to come out of two hundred
miles an hour.

Speaker 2 (46:06):
What do you want your quarterback? What exactly Noah brings?

Speaker 5 (46:09):
Yeah, you know, And I'll say this for Noah if
I could, if you gave me Khalil Tate for that
month or no FAFO for his career, I'll take Noah,
not even how often more than that, not even close.
And that's because consistency, making the right football decisions, high
football IQ and leaderships everything.

Speaker 2 (46:32):
That's where I wanted to go with it, because you
said if they were to change Noah in a in
a bad way or whatever, the other team, the other members.

Speaker 5 (46:39):
Would not you know, that's the last thing you want
for everybody that was like, oh, put in the backup.
Then you better find backup for eleven other guys on
the football field on both sides of the ball.

Speaker 3 (46:49):
You saw that right away.

Speaker 2 (46:50):
And I said that on the show of when he
replaced Jayden DeLaura in the Stafford game.

Speaker 3 (46:57):
There was something different when.

Speaker 5 (46:58):
He shows like okay, let's go.

Speaker 3 (47:00):
Yeah, it's and.

Speaker 2 (47:01):
People some people players said, what are you talking about?
That doesn't happen. I saw what happen. Yeah, and I've
seen it happen before.

Speaker 4 (47:12):
Yeah, you talk about seeing him and mean like, well,
let's go in that Stanford game. Brandon talked about it
after the Kansas game. It was a similar situation. On
that final drive they missed the field goal, They're getting
huddled up. Everyone's a little bit juiced up.

Speaker 3 (47:25):
I know.

Speaker 2 (47:25):
It's just calm, cool, collected, right you want that? Yeah,
your quarterback? Well, yes, I.

Speaker 5 (47:30):
Think the biggest thing for his development this season is, yes,
he's always been calm, cool, collective. Now it's let's get
our I can say ass right, yeah, okay, let's get
our asses to get like. It's more of a vocal
leader out on the field. Before you could hear a
pen drop on that field. Now he's more vocal. They're
not getting into guys, but just getting them ready.

Speaker 3 (47:51):
I wonder if.

Speaker 2 (47:52):
He's I mean, I'm sure this is who he is,
but he's adopted Brendan's personality too, you know, you know words,
he's kind of just okay, Notchalanta, but they mean what
they say.

Speaker 3 (48:04):
And do what they say. But he's more reserved.

Speaker 5 (48:08):
Okay, I'm gotta counter that, because Brennan on the football
field is not reserved. He's not if you really pay attention.
He's getting after refs constantly.

Speaker 3 (48:17):
What about his players? They're fired up? They're fired up.

Speaker 5 (48:23):
Okay, I will counter that because I mean, you saw
the clip and that's only part. Like Brennan goes. If
people could hear what I say to these refs, they're
being shocked because you do it under control. You don't
have to be like no, no, I wrote throwing your
across it. But you could say some stuff, you guys,
I got five dudes that are in charge of me

(48:45):
getting away from the ref No.

Speaker 2 (48:48):
That's great. I wrote my story. You guys probably didn't
read on biz Tu song came on month or so ago.
I've been afraid to put it on my socials because
they were free and whatever they were. I yeah, you know,
it was highlighting him and how he's kind of not
changed but who he actually is. And now I can
kind of put it there because now I believe in it.
If that makes any sense. He's that guy that doesn't

(49:10):
need to show up publicly but gets gets on them
behind the scenes.

Speaker 5 (49:14):
I feel about that because I did a one on
one with with Kylon Boswell being the point guard Arizona
needed because he was playing well, and by the time
I got the interview and publish it, that's when he
went on. I was like, great, I destroyed Kylin Boswell.
But you've destroyed more than just killing Boswell. I will

(49:35):
tell we got three minutes. Okay, cool, perfect time to
talk Bronco football. No, I'm just getting gone.

Speaker 3 (49:40):
Who's playing there?

Speaker 2 (49:42):
I got the Eagles and the Packers.

Speaker 3 (49:43):
Should be a good game.

Speaker 4 (49:45):
I believe the winner goes into first place or if
the Eagles Eagles, when they go into first place, Packers
move into secondary board. Important breaking kind of Arizona basketball
landed a commitment from four star forward Cameron Holmes, and
when we kind of talked about it, Quincy Quig was
the offensive Big Twelve Offensive Player of the Week. Legendary
NBA player and coach Kenny Wilkins died yesterday. And then

(50:08):
just looking at some of the rankings, Houston moved into
number one on the eight People in Basketball, Arizon was
moved up obviously to number five, and the sixth preseason
ranked Big twelve teams are still in the top twenty five.
Cantus moved down to twenty five, and then Robert Cooski
will be retiring a Patriot on Wednesday. He'll sign a

(50:29):
one day contract. Giants fired their head coach Brian Dable,
and a Ron Payne for the Commanders is going to
be suspended for one game for a punching Amro Saint
Brown and last night's game.

Speaker 5 (50:40):
Okay, you know with Houston moving up to number one's
should have been that's how they were not who was
number one? Yeah, I didn't get it.

Speaker 3 (50:51):
No, me too.

Speaker 5 (50:52):
Like Houston had coming back, they have the coach, like
they had everything going for them. I don't know how
they were not number one coming into this season.

Speaker 4 (51:00):
Last week he talked to me about destiny, Steve, I
believe Indiana is a team of destiny this season. Oh football,
Indiana football.

Speaker 2 (51:10):
They they had a hard time last weekend a couple
days ago. But I don't disrect I'm not gonna poo
poo that they You have a coaching throwing everything out
the window.

Speaker 3 (51:19):
That coach is pretty damn good.

Speaker 5 (51:20):
You know what. It kind of reminds me of and
I think they're more talented than this team is when
Notre Dame went undefeated in the regular season with Matt
Ditao and then and then he got pumbled in the
title game, because at the end of the day, you
just don't have as much talent as everybody else. I
could see that happening to them. But the teams that
I think are more talented, I don't trust their head coaches.

(51:41):
So it's an interest like I don't trust Oregon side
coach the Dan Lanning has done nothing to make me
inspired that he's ever gonna win a title. Yep.

Speaker 2 (51:49):
So we'll see, Okay, we good now, yep, Okay, cool,
Thank you Troy, thank you one. We'll talk to everybody tomorrow.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
