Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is I on the Ball on Fox Sports fourteen fifty.
We want to take part in the show. Call up
Steve now went five to two oh four, sev.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Hey, welcome back to I in the Buggy on Fox
Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve rivera Yo, Dave Silver. Now
we have McKenzie with breaking news.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Hi, guys, just a couple of things going on right now.
Joe Burrow is possibly I'm coming back for the Cincinnati Bengals,
hopefully for Thanksgiving week, so that is something to look
out for. The Bengals have lost five of the six
games since Burrow got hurt against Baltimore a few weeks back,
(00:45):
so something to look at. In the NFL, the Dallas
Mavericks have fired their GM Nico Harrison amidst backlash from
fans on the Luca Donks trade last season.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
That took like eight months whatever.
Speaker 5 (01:02):
Was not a not a great move on his part
and he was criticized heavily forward, but there you go.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
The New York Giants have also fired head coach Brian
de Bull. This just happened. Jackson Dart is out with
concussion now, and as we know, Cam Scattabo, their star
running back is out for the season, and.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
We gotta call Hello. You're on the airline. The ball
is this I'm on the air, Yes.
Speaker 6 (01:26):
You're in the air all right, this is who's your Tommy, Sue?
Speaker 4 (01:30):
How you doing good, Tommy? What's the word?
Speaker 7 (01:33):
Well?
Speaker 6 (01:34):
I wanted to correct one thing that I heard yesterday.
I tried to Colin yesterday but it couldn't get through.
There is another vela drome. It's the Major Taylor Taylor
Velodrome in Indianapolis, Indiana. It's hosted the PanAm Games in
the Olympic Trials previously. And while I'm really really glad
that we have a velodrome here, I did want to
(01:55):
correct that Major Taylor was Afro American bike rider who
made some headway for crossing the lines to get Afro
Americans into cycling. So I wanted to clear that up.
Beyond that, Steve, I've been living under a rock. Is
Indiana any good at football or not?
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Well, it's supposed to be a heavy rock, because they're
still good. You got a little scared last week. You
got a little scared.
Speaker 6 (02:26):
You mean we have a good team?
Speaker 4 (02:28):
Yes, yes, of.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Course, perhaps I knew that already. Yeah, perhaps I think
there was some Sarcastle. Hey, but the almost lost last week,
so we'll see.
Speaker 6 (02:39):
The greatest catch I've ever seen.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
It was great, I know, I agree.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
And the best thing if you have a chance to
listen to the Fox broadcast of that, because Gus Johnson
was doing the play by play, it's one of the
all time hilarious calls of.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
A touchdown I've ever heard. He went, he went nuts.
Speaker 6 (02:57):
All right, thanks for thanks for the back and yeah,
thank you.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
Tommy released the college football players.
Speaker 5 (03:03):
It's good to know about the ratings later and a
few a few minutes actually, okay, in an hour, so
we'll keep who's number one or two?
Speaker 4 (03:10):
Okay, I'm sure Indiana is right there because he back
to you.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
I mean, we already talked about season ending injury for
Travis Hunter, the receiver slash cornerback. That's just gonna take
a toll on any player playing both of those positions.
I don't think it's anything that we saw didn't see coming.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Yeah, they'll probably change the way he's playing in the future.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
I'm surprised they let that happen in the first place.
FC Barcelona in the soccer world had a big win.
They followed up a four to two victory with the
recovery session and a visit from Lionel Messi. That's about
all I've got.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Okay, there's not much going on outside of their national
title because we talked about that yesterday. But otherwise anything
else you see Dave check.
Speaker 5 (04:00):
But I mean, they won the national championship again in triathlon,
which is pretty pretty cool for that to happen for
a program that's just you know, kind of getting started.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
You know, they're looking forward to going to Cincinnati.
Speaker 5 (04:14):
I guess first time they've ever played, right, so this
first time they've ever played this team.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
There's more at.
Speaker 5 (04:22):
Stake for the U of A these days after you know,
getting Bowl eligible and you know these Bowl predictions which
are so much hilarious to look at, you know, in
mid November. But one of them, the Athletic has Arizona
go into this Los Angeles Bowl which is kind of
run by Gronkowski and playing San Diego State, which would
be fun for me since I went there.
Speaker 4 (04:44):
But I don't know.
Speaker 5 (04:46):
Any bowl I suppose is good for the program just
to get on TV and yeah, no matter where it is.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Yeah, they talk about you know, getting those sector practices
in and you know, the enjoyment of it, all that stuff.
So maybe we'll see what happens. Let's see what happens.
I said, Brown, the crazy Brown. He is pleaded not
guilty to murder Antonio Brown. Oh of course.
Speaker 5 (05:09):
Yeah, that story just kind of popped out of nowhere. Yeah,
really will Where is he exactly?
Speaker 2 (05:17):
So you think that because you you follow the NFL, Mackenzie,
what's wrong with you? Belichick will get back into the NFL?
Why would you hire him? His name is kind of
being thrown around Giants.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
To come back?
Speaker 2 (05:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (05:35):
Would you hire seventy two? I don't know. I have
not done that. Great. Pete Carroll came back and you
know the Raiders are terrible. How's that? God? Yeah, I
don't know.
Speaker 5 (05:44):
It seems like the trend is not to hire those
kind of guys in stays to the NFL, the younger dudes.
He'll get some you know, offensive defensive coordinators. Those seem
to be the hiring spots. But you know, if you
get a big name, I guess that's helpful in some cases.
Speaker 4 (05:58):
You know, Andy Reid, how muchmuch longer is he gonna go?
Speaker 5 (06:00):
He's not going to retire from the Chiefs and come
back in a couple of years.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
He's going to be eighty.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
What do you think of with other Rogers had a
horrible game, Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 5 (06:11):
He'd been playing pretty well too. It was kind of
surprising that that was another dud of a game.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
He's so funny, just what his facial features in his
body language is just like, man, you don't even want
to be there.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
He's just not a likable guy on the team likes him.
His family doesn't speak to him like I mean, that
should tell you pretty much all.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
You need to know. You're funny, because we talked about that.
When your family doesn't like you, yeah, exactly, you have
issues problem going on.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
Else.
Speaker 5 (06:41):
Well, I mean they were you know, they've been playing
that that that division is full of a bunch of mediocrity.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
And you mentioned Joe Burrow.
Speaker 5 (06:49):
I mean they're still sort of in it and they're
like three and five or something, you know, so there's
a lot of you know, rooms only and only one
team is going to make the playoffs out of that league.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Let me tell you the team to watch this is
this is not this is me not blowing smoke.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
Baltimore. They got the quarterback back.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
Yeah, I agree, I like the Ravens and I really
like Lamar, so yeah, we'll see.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
I think he's he's so good. When he's bad, he's
not good at all, like he's really really good or
just you know, he does try.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
To do too much.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
I would agree with that.
Speaker 4 (07:21):
So we'll see what happens with their running back when
he's healthy.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
I love oh yeah, yeah, yeah, they still have that.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
They do. They still have that and they always have
a good defense.
Speaker 5 (07:29):
But you know, they made some goofy, goofy moves and
in their playoffs last year that wasn't wasn't great, but still.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Right, I guess Rookie of the Years, do you have
anything like that?
Speaker 4 (07:39):
There was wasn't that? That was yesterday? Yesterday. I don't
think we had that.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
Do you know what? You remember what you saw? Did
you see the video of h with that? Many people
are saying that the Toronto Blue Jays, and I believe
it even though I had I had had them and
they lost, played out played the Dodgers. They just lost
that the better team didn't win, right, you felt that?
You feel it?
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (08:02):
I don't know, yes, I know you want to. Yeah, No.
Speaker 5 (08:05):
Rookies of the Year al Nick Kurtz of the of
the Athletics whatever they are, the Sacramento Athletics. Didn't he
have a game where he had four home runs? I
think this year he was he was huge. And then
Drake Baldwin National League Rookie of the Year from Atlanta.
So I think we have some more awards coming later today.
And I'm not quite sure, but I'm I should know
that probably have maybe Cy Young.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
Yeah, who's your baseball team, the Genets? Yeah, probably the Gens.
Nothing connected to the A's when I was a kid. Yeah,
but because that's when they were really good.
Speaker 5 (08:38):
They were good. It was fun to watch. So, yeah,
the Bay Area had both those teams.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
You know.
Speaker 5 (08:43):
Actually, the A's were really good in the early seventies
and then in the later years of Oakland they were
good through much of their time there. They had moments, Yeah,
McGuire and Conseco, that whole group. But yeah, they're kind
of tough to watch, but they're you know, they did
it okay, and we'll see how things shape up when
(09:03):
they go to Vegas. It's gonna be an interesting just
an interesting situation right obviously for the game.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
And they said that the stadium's cod along pretty was
like twenty five percent done the foundation and all that.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
It's amazing.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
You know that corner right right across from New York,
New York and ex Caliber. It's just amazing how they
can fit a huge, huge, uh stadium right there. Yeah,
just right there Parking.
Speaker 4 (09:29):
I wonder how Parking is gonna be there.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
Already a crazy place and it just is expensive as
all hell. Better not cuss cuts anything else that got.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
I'm seeing a couple of Cleveland Guardian pictures just got
in trouble for a more alleged sports.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
Betting more to more in addition to yesterday.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
Or was this from you yesterday?
Speaker 4 (09:56):
Okay?
Speaker 5 (09:56):
Yeah, Now we got the Manager of the Year can
and it's coming out. So that's that's coming later today
the next hour. Okay, so yeah, all the postseason awards
basically just come out all week. I think we'll go manager,
then we'll probably go cy Young, and then we'll go
MVP and then we'll be done.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
Well, tonight's a big night. Not in basketball here, but
this is basketball all over the place. Kentucky plays as
Louisville Texas Tech plays at Illinois.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
Remember they never would play each other.
Speaker 5 (10:25):
Remember Kentucky and Louisville had this long years years of
where they just never could get it together. And then
finally I think TV probably said, you know what, well
Patino would match. I'm sure was Patino's situation, probably jumping ship.
And I think in general there was just this, you
know there they think they're better than us feeling amongst
those two schools.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
Yeah, creating places at zag Gonzega. So a nice little
basketball night for everybody, including here. Got one more call
coming in. Let's take a call.
Speaker 4 (10:56):
Hello, you're on the air line on the ball.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Who's this? This is Vic?
Speaker 8 (11:01):
Why why are you trying to rain on my parade
saying the better team wanted steal?
Speaker 4 (11:05):
Because it's true. I wouldn't say true in the.
Speaker 9 (11:08):
Seventh in a seven game series, the better team always wins, right.
Speaker 4 (11:11):
Dave correct? I agree?
Speaker 9 (11:15):
Hey, I got it, Come on, I know, don't try
to rain on J and I parade.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
You have a good therapist for You'll give you the
call out the air at the double. Hey, and I
got want to rate fired or what they have? They
have stuff to do. Apparently that's why you have kids.
We have kids coming on, I gotta get the replacement.
Speaker 8 (11:36):
Okay, I'll see you guys tonight, are you going to
the going to the game.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
Oh yeah, sir, okay, then come by and say hello.
Speaker 9 (11:43):
All right, I'll be rooting can They'll.
Speaker 8 (11:47):
Be rooting for Bright to get in the game.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
Good luck with that. You have a better chance. Yeah,
you have a better chance out.
Speaker 9 (12:00):
Baby, all right, take care guy, great show.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
Too much pressure on the poor kid, no kidding, Yeah,
but no, I don't think it's pressure on anything but
the fans giving it to him because you know he's.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
Not gonna play.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
No, you know he's not gonna play. I know he's
not gonna play.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
If you know basketball, you know it's the people that
hear the name and.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
Right right, yeah, yeah, and just two years here's the
sad part. They love the guy. Two years ago or
so three years ago, they were ripping his brother. You know,
it's right, how the tables turn.
Speaker 4 (12:33):
Yeah, I mean every time he touched the ball, there
was taunting him. I was here, right.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
Yeah. When they're not with you, they're against you. So
we'll see he won't he won't play. See a lot
of kids won't play. He's going to play eight or
nine rest the way, So we'll see what happens. We're
gonna take a break here, come back on the other
side and just talk more.

Steve Rivera He's got his eye on the ball on
Tucson's sports station, Fox Sports fourteen fifty.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
Hey, welcome back to I on the ball here on
Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, your Dave Silver.
You got Kenzie on the other side. Now we have
a call. Who's this.
Speaker 10 (17:59):
Hi?
Speaker 9 (17:59):
This is Coles wrought up in Wyoming, just giving you
guys a call.
Speaker 8 (18:02):
How's it going today?
Speaker 2 (18:03):
Good?
Speaker 4 (18:03):
Good, how's Spinner's Dembo doing.
Speaker 9 (18:06):
Oh, you know, that's a good question.
Speaker 13 (18:08):
Man.
Speaker 9 (18:08):
Was he was?
Speaker 2 (18:09):
So?
Speaker 9 (18:09):
He was such an amazing athlete, such.
Speaker 8 (18:11):
An amazing player for Wyoming. I don't know what he's
up to these days, but that was some good good times.
Speaker 9 (18:17):
He Eric Leckner, yees fun times. You know, I'm talking
about your stadiums. You know, I haven't been to a
ton of.
Speaker 8 (18:25):
Stadiums, and McKenzie's probably been to more than I have.
But War Memorial Stadium up here in Laramie at seventy
two hundred feet is always a challenge for people to
come up and play because of the elevation.
Speaker 9 (18:37):
It's great if you're a punter a field.
Speaker 8 (18:38):
Goal kicker because yeah, his sixty yarder is kind of
a chip shot at this altitude, and end along with
hunters can just really boot it. So it's a really
cool stadium up here, but we don't have the big
time college football atmosphere that they do probably even in
Tucson or ASU or Kensey was just in Alabama to
(19:00):
see that game. But yeah, it's a cool, cool stadium
up here. And what are your guys thoughts about Bryce
James coming?
Speaker 9 (19:07):
Is he pretty awesome?
Speaker 8 (19:09):
Recruit and you think he's going to help out u
of A this year.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
Well, let's take a real quick about the stadium. How
many does it fill?
Speaker 8 (19:18):
Oh, I think a capacity around thirty five thousand.
Speaker 4 (19:21):
Maybe forty that perfect. Do you guys travel well?
Speaker 5 (19:24):
I know that the Wyoming fans came down here at
least I don't know, two years in a row, right
for a bowl game, And.
Speaker 4 (19:31):
Yeah, we've been.
Speaker 8 (19:31):
We've been to those bowl games that they do. It's
a great group.
Speaker 9 (19:35):
You know, Wyoming's five hundred thousand people in.
Speaker 8 (19:37):
The entire state, and I think it's the seventh biggest state,
so all things considered, yeah, it's Wyoming does travel well
and people are really passionate about the program, both the
football and basketball program up here. So it's it's pretty cool.
Speaker 4 (19:51):
Did you come down on any of those trips yourself?
I did.
Speaker 8 (19:55):
I've been down to one game. I can't remember which,
which bowl game it was, but yeah, we went down
and it was I think it was, oh, North Carolina Southern.
I can't remember who it was, and I don't think
they won. But I love being down in Tucson. It's
such a cool city.
Speaker 4 (20:10):
So did you did you grow up in Wyoming. Are
you a native?
Speaker 8 (20:14):
I am totally a native.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
And Mackenzie, well, you guys are crazy the coldest state
in the Union, and you guys have never left.
Speaker 8 (20:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (20:22):
No, I mean, well, I'm a big fisherman and I
love the mountains up here.
Speaker 8 (20:26):
But the nice thing about so I'm in Laramie with
the University of Wyoming and and we're.
Speaker 9 (20:31):
Two hours from Denver, so we can get.
Speaker 8 (20:33):
All our big city stuff. And we grew up huge,
huge sports fan of course with the Broncos and the
Nuggets and the Avalanche, and we try to be fans
of the Colorado Rockies.
Speaker 9 (20:43):
But it's really, really, really tough to do that.
Speaker 4 (20:46):
Well you're gonna pick the winners as for your kid, Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 8 (20:50):
But so we got CSU. It's about seventy miles south
before Collins and then see us about two hours the Boulder,
and but yeah, go Pokes. And we might of having
a marginal, marginal year. We did beat CSU, so we
have the big border war and that rivalry. So we
won the bronze booth this year. And CSU, I think
(21:10):
is really struggling their program right now. And I don't
know if they fired their coaches, did pretty close. And
but yeah, it's it's actually Kenny was up here going
to school and and it's it's a it's a fun
place people like like I said before, people love their
sports up here. They love the University of Wyoming and
not big time college football. And you know, once in
(21:31):
a blue moon we'll have a have a good basketball
team that makes the tournament. And uh so that's always fun.
But yeah, real real passionate fan base up here, and.
Speaker 9 (21:43):
It's it's a fun place to live.
Speaker 8 (21:44):
Although this time of year it's I think I'd much
rather be down south a little.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Yes, of course, and then we disappoint you even further.
Speaker 4 (21:54):
Ain't playing what's that Bryce is not going to play?
Speaker 10 (21:59):
Oh he's not.
Speaker 4 (22:02):
I think this is just a red shirt the whole year.
That's true.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
And that's what he's here for. He's not here to
at least in the first year or two. He's here
to learn and have fun and become a student and
you know, live his life and not be worried about basketball.
Speaker 8 (22:16):
Real quick, what is what's the basketball team brink going
in this year?
Speaker 4 (22:20):
If right? They're thirteenth, another fifth.
Speaker 8 (22:24):
Fifth, Wow, they've jumped up.
Speaker 9 (22:26):
So yeah, National championship aspirations this year.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
Well, if you're not in Tucson, you don't feel that way.
You don't belong in Tucson, because that's all they think.
But let me tell you, Cole, it's been twenties.
Speaker 9 (22:38):
I've never been able to say that about the University
of Wyom.
Speaker 2 (22:40):
I got to live vicariously through you guys, right right, Well,
make sure your payments for Kenzie are paid up.
Speaker 9 (22:48):
Hey, well, thanks for having her on.
Speaker 4 (22:51):
I just love it.
Speaker 8 (22:52):
I work in radio for a little bit and I'm
so proud of her.
Speaker 9 (22:55):
And so go Pokes, Go Wildcats.
Speaker 8 (22:57):
I'm now an Arizona fan and uh yeah, we'll talk.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
To you soon.
Speaker 4 (23:01):
Okay, thanks Cole, appreciate.
Speaker 2 (23:03):
It, Thank you bears stream.
Speaker 3 (23:08):
No, not at all. I love I love talking to him.
I mean I do it every day. So you guys
can talk to it about give me a break.
Speaker 4 (23:16):
That's very cool. Yeah, because we've had about Josh Allen.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
He's like the No, we should have talked about that
for sure.
Speaker 4 (23:22):
It's like their biggest star.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
I was telling Steve about this triple overtime game they
were playing. They were playing against C. S U, obviously
Wyoming's rival, and Josh threw like a fifty yard touchdown
pass at like two in the morning while it was snowing,
and everyone watched and stayed and it was awesome.
Speaker 4 (23:38):
Yeah, nothing else to do.
Speaker 5 (23:40):
I mean, he's the biggest thing to come out of
there and ever since Finnis Dembo you were talking about
in the eighties.
Speaker 2 (23:46):
But Josh Allen, what happened to him the other day?
Holy crapeh.
Speaker 3 (23:51):
Yeah, the Dolphins. That's tricky for sure.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
Right, but every game, every game is different.
Speaker 5 (23:56):
Now, but still, like we've mentioned it a couple of
times today, it's just the fact that those Oneoming fans
do travel. When they cut down and they were there
were a lot of spirits and it was great. I
think the ball game appreciates them.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
We have a mutual friend from Wyoming, Oh, Cody, Cody,
Cody's He's helped, he's up there. He's like mister mister Wyoming, Wyoming.
He opens his person's strings and they love him.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
That ball game we were talking about was in twenty twenty
three versus Toledo. Toledo b Wyoming a score of sixteen
to fifteen. I think, yeah, yeah, there was another time too, though, Yeah,
there was, yeah.
Speaker 4 (24:31):
Back to back. I'm pretty sure. Yeah, that's cool. What
do you have you know Arizona?
Speaker 3 (24:38):
Yeah, twenty twenty two, Oh versus Ohio Bobcats Wyoming one
in overtime by a field goal, thirty to twenty seven.
That was the year before.
Speaker 4 (24:47):
Yeah, remember right, it was barstool games.
Speaker 3 (24:51):
The barstool one was in was in twenty twenty three.
Speaker 2 (24:54):
Yeah, yeah, right, And what do you else want to call?
Please do five to two? Oh with you four forty parents?
The kids like, okay, every Soon was one of those schools,
Like you said, you came here for athletics. Was there
another place you didn't go to? Ud Denver? Denver?
Speaker 1 (25:14):
You?
Speaker 3 (25:15):
Yeah, my dad, my dad went to Missoo. He started
in this this kind of field too. I mean there's
a lot of good schools. Syracuse is insane, of course,
hard to get in there. Yeah, this is a cool
like market and too Soon though it's not as big
as Phoenix, so it's like it's kind of a city vibe.
You have those connections in those teams, but it's a
little easier to make them. I guess true. That's what
(25:38):
drew me here.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
Yeah, makes sense. It's not the big city, the little
Mayberry right, and as.
Speaker 5 (25:44):
Your dad was saying, you know, if we want to
go to the big time games, it's two hours to
go to Phoenix if we want to go see the
Cardinals of the Suns or something like that. And so
we do have that benefit and we're kind of stucked
away down here, you know, by ourselves. So it's kind
of nice. And in the Wildcats are the only game
in town pretty much. Yeah, you know, some other big
time sports that come through, but consistently from you know,
really from what August till June, that's the team people
(26:08):
cover care about. Yeah, and we have so many people
who are not from here as well. That's maybe another
issue with attendance we kind of talked about before, is
it you know what I grew up in wherever I
grew up in Colorado. I don't really care about Arizona.
So that sometimes is the problem that we find here
when we live in the in the in the sun belt. Yeah, okay,
(26:30):
that's my rant. And that's the extent of you're not
you're not a renter.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
Yeah, you're not a red You got a rat to again,
if you want to call five two oh four, one
sixty talk about stadiums whatever, basketball, we'll see what happens Arizona.
Is there a spread on tonight's game, maybe twenty I
should check Acy Deserts Form has.
Speaker 4 (26:53):
All that stuff.
Speaker 5 (26:55):
Arizona's favored by twenty five ish spread thirty.
Speaker 4 (26:59):
Five and a half.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
Well, they were afraid they were a favor to beat
who they beat last time, not every real by thirty
three and they didn't cover uh thirty five?
Speaker 5 (27:09):
Wow, anau thirty five and a half. I wouldn't touch
he under one sixty three?
Speaker 2 (27:15):
Yeah, that's what the over under was against Florida. They
blew past that. Baby, it's like the eight what eighty? Yeah,
I wouldn't touch. That's a lot of points. Who's gonna
be the start of the moment tonight? You know what?
Speaker 4 (27:28):
I think I was gonna say that. I was gonna
say that too. He really kind of emerged, you know,
the other day, pretty good.
Speaker 2 (27:36):
Yeah. I think he's it's his turn. It's his turn.
I think it's gonna be a lot of turns.
Speaker 5 (27:41):
I don't think they're gonna get anybody go scoring probably
over twenty two. I think they're gonna it's gonna be
spread out. I mean, if it turns into one of
these kind of games, everyone's gonna get a chance.
Speaker 4 (27:50):
You know who, I don't do you follow the basketball team?
Speaker 10 (27:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (27:53):
I do.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
You know who?
Speaker 2 (27:54):
I think needs to kind of start showing that he's ready,
and that's the big guys. Grievous. Yeah, because he's kind
of he's kind of like the player we haven't really
seen in two years.
Speaker 4 (28:06):
He's still kind of a plotter, which is not good.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
They're okay with the Waka down low and CoA in
there too, but they're gonna need that big presence and
that's what he offers in a better way. He needs
to do it in a better way, if that makes
any sense.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
I agree. I feel like we were all really excited
for him to come back too. I know I was,
so I haven't seen too much out of him. I've
seen a lot more out of a Waka, which it's
what I saw last year too, right.
Speaker 2 (28:33):
I think that does help him in relieving pressure of
doing really well. But there's a point at some point
in the season when you're gonna have to step up
and be the guy that everyone expects you to be.
I agree, not that that'll happen, but if you show
signs of it, it'll help. I would think tonight would
be a good chance for that to happen.
Speaker 5 (28:51):
Yeah, you know, yeah, I don't think any of you,
any of you does not have anybody nearly his height.
So if they can take advantage of that, you know,
just getting the ball a few times and just see
what he can do, He's going to be two feet.
Speaker 4 (29:01):
From the basket. Yeah, in most of those cases.
Speaker 5 (29:03):
So I think this would be a good opportunity for
him to, you know, have maybe more than just eight
points and four rebounds and four fouls.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
Right, And we've seen some big men here, and not
that all of them were great, right, we had and
I want to say them in these these categories, but
in Stokes big dude. But yeah, Rooks was a big
dude and paid could play Tarzuski. Whatever you thought of him, Okay,
you know, he wasn't great, wasn't bad. Uh, They've had
(29:32):
some some of those guys really hasn't haven't had a
big center that really was dominant.
Speaker 5 (29:37):
Which was was kind of cool about the Florida game
is that they did have some big guys and you know,
I don't know some of the UFA players were able
to hold their own against that size. They're going to
play teams like, you know, anau Tonite, it's not going
to have anybody that large, so he should be able to,
you know, maneuver around a bit.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
And before anybody calls, I know, Eightton was the big guy.
There's a problem. He wasn't always there every game. Yeah,
you he was there and not there and they're not there, you.
Speaker 5 (30:03):
Know, And the game has changed, you know, the stokes
Is and Caleb Tarzuskis and even eight well eight and
really was kind of the new generation of the big
guy who doesn't you know, doesn't spend most of the
time in the paint. They're out there shooting threes, you know.
So that's kind of how that game has evolved in
the meantime. You know, Crevis, I don't think is going
to be shooting no threes.
Speaker 4 (30:20):
He might. I think he's tried two in his career
something like that. Do you remember how.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
Many they shot threes they shot last game? They shot
five I think Monday Night, I think maybe twelve. I'm
just guessing right now. I don't think they're going to
shoot very many because I know I've done that story
already where that's the biggest issue I have with his team.
Speaker 4 (30:38):
They don't have a shooter.
Speaker 3 (30:40):
Well, DELI.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
Got Are you going to hold your hat and hope
that Delhi hits three?
Speaker 5 (30:49):
They actually shot fifteen, hit seven for fifteen.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
Oh, that's pretty good. So it's pretty good. If they
did that all the time, they're going to be very good.
But they're not going to do that every game.
Speaker 5 (30:58):
Well, I mean for the game they shot fifty seven percent. Yeah,
so they didn't you know, they didn't have to struggle
to yes with that.
Speaker 4 (31:03):
It's funny.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
It's funny that they shot so well and and we
didn't hear time he saying I told you guys, we
can shoot threes.
Speaker 4 (31:09):
You know, he didn't venture that at all. I anticipate
that happening though.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
You know.
Speaker 5 (31:13):
I mean Crevius was three for four, so he didn't
take very many shots. He only played seventeen minutes, right,
and Burres was really the guy. Burris and CoA.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
Yeah they had eighteen fifteen seventeen was.
Speaker 5 (31:24):
That eighteen eighteen for coen Uh and Burres and then
eighteen for del Orso too.
Speaker 4 (31:31):
Yeah, a good game. He had a good game. He
made three three pointers.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
So the next month or so is gonna really determine
how good these guys can be or could be before
they get into the nitty gritty of the Big twelve,
which is of course probably the best league in the
in the conference or in the in the country. Right,
So we'll see what happens with that, because they were
picked fourth some fifth by people, So we'll see what happens.
Speaker 3 (31:56):
Bryant could shoot two.
Speaker 4 (31:59):
Uh yeah, he could shoot too good.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
Yeah, Well they had they had shooters kind of that.
Sometimes they didn't have makers because Caleb Carter.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
It just depended on the day for sure.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
And Delorso too. I mean, you say, there's no question
he's the shooter, and but is he the maker?
Speaker 3 (32:19):
We'll see what big what.
Speaker 5 (32:20):
If if Carter would have come back, how this team
would have looked a lot?
Speaker 4 (32:25):
Do you would have been?
Speaker 2 (32:26):
Let me let me give you more back about I
would rather have and this is because I thought Carter
was leaving anyway, if Henry came back. True, you know,
if Henry came back, that would be the thing. And
he was never coming back. We got one more call, Well,
you're on the air nine the ball who's in.
Speaker 4 (32:43):
My guys, Jim? What's the word, Jim?
Speaker 9 (32:47):
Well, we won a football game on uh last Saturday.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
Right, you sound excited. You sound excited.
Speaker 9 (32:58):
Well, I wanted to make remarks about how we won it.
They ran involved and scored two running plays back to back,
and it was interesting. In the press conference after the game,
coach Brennan made the comment, yeah, we won the game
(33:19):
running the ball, like he was surprised.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
Well, then a full disclosure, gym. I'll tell the people
you and I had a conversation during the game, and
what was your biggest thing when they weren't running the ball?
Speaker 9 (33:34):
I don't remember it.
Speaker 4 (33:36):
I'll tell you run the damn ball.
Speaker 9 (33:39):
Yeah, I mean that's the same thing. I have said
that for two years, and you know, just almost by
the most basic form of logic available reasoning, you don't
gain yards until the cornerback gets rid of the ball.
(34:01):
And you know, no Fafeta, bless his heart, averages two
yards of carry for thirteen attempts this last week. We
need to get the ball out of Noah's hands into
the running backs hand.
Speaker 5 (34:21):
He gets doctor yardage when he gets sacked, because he
got sacked like five times. So that's kind of why
that number looks weird.
Speaker 9 (34:31):
It's that way every week, go Dad, I mean every
week when I look, you know, he averages three or
four yards, and the passing yards per time, all that
is they're on the low side, very low. And so
you know, I think if I was a coach in
(34:51):
the Big twelve and I knew I was going to
play Arizona, I would play them to pass every time.
And and that's all I have to say. Really, it's
just obvious. It's convened that we need to run the
ball about eight eight more times a game.
Speaker 4 (35:10):
Yeah, yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (35:11):
Balance this thing out. I do agree with you, because
they do look very more impressive with the run than
they do with the past.
Speaker 4 (35:17):
Thanks Jim.
Speaker 9 (35:17):
They look pretty impressive going over the goal line with
thirty nine seconds ago.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
Well that's all the time you needed. That's all the
time you needed. Yeah, thanks man, thank you, Bye bye.

We have about fourteen minutes. If you guys want to call,
continue the calls please five to two oh four one
sixty seventy four forty.
Speaker 4 (39:51):
It's about four forty one.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
The game here in about three hours.
Speaker 4 (39:57):
What do you do before the games to get ready? Anything? No,
I mean, don't make me, Dave, I'm always curious. What. Well,
here's the second party. I knew what we used to do,
but for the newspaper guys.
Speaker 2 (40:08):
Well, nowadays they don't give us any we don't have
any notes. Right, we don't have any more press releases.
It's all online. We have to do computer stuff. It's
available to us. So I just kind of my role
is different. Before I was a beat writer, so I,
you know, true paid attention to a lot of stuff.
Now I'm the kind of a columnist. I just get
to do my observations, get my perspective on things, and
(40:29):
see what he says. But nothing, nothing really, I mean,
we'll see what happens.
Speaker 5 (40:34):
What happens, Right, do you go into the game kind
of kind of knowing.
Speaker 4 (40:39):
What you're gonna come up with? I have you played ball?
Speaker 2 (40:43):
Like a template sort of, Well, you played ball, So
I don't know if this will late because I played
ball baseball, and this is how I played. If the
ball is hit to my left, I'm gonna do this.
If it all hit to my right, hit up the middle,
this is how speed blah blah. So I'm thinking, if
this happens, I'm trying to come up with the lead
that makes sense and be kind of cute whatever, and
then go with it. It probably doesn't happen till halftime
(41:05):
or something, depends on the game situation, but not really.
You don't know until you know, right, you know how
it is for you guys, I know it's tough because
you got to get a highlight or two or three.
You got like a minute, yeah, and then you then
you talk about it and then you move on to
the next thing. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (41:21):
I mean I was always amazed at you know, how
you guys could just just flip it if a game
just has some dramatic finish or you know, something just
totally unexpected.
Speaker 2 (41:31):
That's where a bunch of sports writers drink a lot,
smoke a lot. Yes, because they're all dressed out. It's
tressed out, but no, thanks for noticing. Let me tell
you this real quick. Lunardi came out with his uh
one of his first first But ladies, where do you
think Arizona's act.
Speaker 4 (41:51):
Four seed where I don't know? San Diego?
Speaker 2 (41:55):
Well, yeah, san Diego, you hit there in the Chicago
Midwest region number two seed?
Speaker 4 (42:01):
Wow? Yeah again? What day is it? November eleventh?
Speaker 2 (42:05):
Yeah, so yeah, San Diego via via Chicago Midwest. In
the West they have Yukon number one, Kentucky number two,
a b y U number three, and Zaga number four
silly five. But in the Midwest Purdue and I don't
get it. I don't get Purdue and maybe I'm just
missing something. Arizona two uh three is three?
Speaker 4 (42:33):
I don't know who three is. It's funny if you do.
Speaker 5 (42:36):
Look at the ESPN page and they've got a Houston,
Georgia and Georgetown. Last team in Georgetown the pictures kJ Lewis, Yeah, yeah,
or Tennessee. Yeah, all these players. I don't see a three. Oh, Louisville,
let's get again. You have to be some good teams
to get to the Flat Wars. If you're a good team,
you better be a good team.
Speaker 2 (42:57):
So we'll see. But number two in the Midwest, Chicago.
I wouldn't mind going there when that happens through San Diego, Okay.
Speaker 5 (43:06):
Yeah, the Western Regional Western first rounds are San Diego
and Portland, if I'm not mistaken, and then the Western
Region is in San Jose, and then you have Chicago.
Speaker 2 (43:15):
You have a place there. Can I stay there?
Speaker 5 (43:18):
Actually I don't, But Houston and DC those are good
cities for yeah regionals.
Speaker 2 (43:25):
Yeah, DC, I might be to stay with my son. No,
they're staying West, so they're good enough to stay the West.
Speaker 5 (43:32):
We'll see, Okay, Yeah, even if they're three or four seed. Yeah,
West usually just because they're in Arizona and they're gonna
they're gonna draw fans to San Diego, Yeah, or Portland,
but San Diego for sure.
Speaker 2 (43:44):
High Point, the twelve seas in the West. Guess who
plays on Hype Point.
Speaker 4 (43:50):
Got me there?
Speaker 2 (43:50):
Last year's guard, backup guard thee oh from Spain.
Speaker 5 (43:58):
Yeah, Carl, isn't it Martinez Conra Yeah, Martine, good memory.
Speaker 2 (44:04):
Connor Road Martinez. So there's a few guys and you
got your guy. You just said that a Georgetown in
North Carolina. Obviously some of the guys who have defected.
So we'll see what happens. Just a long road, long
road ahead.
Speaker 5 (44:15):
And once again, you know the Big twelve is right
there with the top three conferences. Yeah, did it say
the SECN Big ten with Big Ten with eleven? So
it has said in Big twelve with eight. Yeah, it's
gonna be a fun season.
Speaker 2 (44:28):
I think there's gonna be a lot of ups and
downs and they're gonna be saying, how did we how
did we lose that game? Well, that's just the way
it goes, especially if there's all the basketball. You know,
we've been living that story for all these years. This year,
is this the year they're gonna get to the Final four?
You've had why not? You've had twenty five years think
think about it. I don't know. And how many times
(44:49):
did you think yes, at least five? Oh, at least
at least five. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (44:53):
I mean, when you go in as a number one
or two seed, you've got a pretty good chance. And
they managed to kind of you know, mess those up
unfortun only through the years.
Speaker 2 (45:01):
And that's why you can't be over zealous at the
beginning or under zealous that's the right word, later on
in the in the year, or you know.
Speaker 5 (45:09):
Okay, so maybe they do stumble at UCLA or Yukon,
you know, do we overreact and worry about it?
Speaker 4 (45:17):
And then the next thing I'm.
Speaker 5 (45:18):
Going to turn towards the conference schedule, which is gonna
be nuts.
Speaker 2 (45:21):
Well, here's here's my issue, Dave, And I've said it
a lot on this show, and people say, why do
you do this? But there's other good teams in the
country that you don't know how good they are. Right,
there's no question Arizona's one of the better ones, and
they showed it on Monday. But we seen this game before,
we seen this team before. But you don't know how
good Yukon is. You don't know how good Louisville is.
(45:42):
You don't know how good. You don't know because you.
Speaker 5 (45:43):
Just don't know, and there's such turnover nowadays, you really
don't know. I mean you can sit there and predict
oh well, yeah, I mean does you think many people
even knew who knew who co Opete was or Brandon Burrace?
I mean no, I mean people did, if you really
were into it well from their high school days, but
they haven't played college.
Speaker 2 (46:03):
Yeah, I'll give you one example. Arizona was in LA
last two years ago. Uh, three seeds or something like that. Right,
they go and face Clemson. Yeah, what the hell did
you know about Clemson? Not a damn thing. They'd won
their two games pretty good, New Mexico. I can't remember
who they won. But you're saying there was one offenition thing,
we got this, we got this, Clemson, we got this,
(46:23):
and what happened? They didn't get this and they were
pretty good. They were pretty good.
Speaker 4 (46:30):
I mean there's a lot of parody, for sure, I
don't you know.
Speaker 5 (46:34):
Especially we're gonna see what sixty four whatever it is
teams and there's going to be twenty.
Speaker 4 (46:39):
Basically, they have a chance to win it.
Speaker 2 (46:40):
This year specifically, Yeah, this year, specifically, there's not really
one dominant team. Houston's gonna be good. But are they
really as good as they were last year?
Speaker 4 (46:48):
Right?
Speaker 5 (46:48):
You know we don't know. I mean here they are,
they're you know whatever. They can be picked great now,
but give them a month. Let's see how things get
right going once they get into the into their conference
play in January.
Speaker 2 (46:58):
Yeah, we have about six minutes if you guys want
to call five two zero for one six seventy four
forty game here at seven. Right, it's a game at
seven Michaeale Center. We got to call here real quick.
Coold On.
Speaker 4 (47:13):
Hello, you're on the Aaronine the ball?
Speaker 2 (47:14):
Who's this?
Speaker 4 (47:15):
Y Nico? What's up?
Speaker 2 (47:18):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (47:19):
Man?
Speaker 3 (47:19):
You know you as a football team?
Speaker 13 (47:20):
Right?
Speaker 2 (47:21):
We do? We do?
Speaker 4 (47:22):
Are you? Were you there? Were you celebrating?
Speaker 9 (47:25):
I was not there? Why it's too early for me?
Speaker 12 (47:29):
Man?
Speaker 9 (47:29):
I like twelve.
Speaker 2 (47:32):
I was gonna say you if you're calling about football
and you weren't there, how much of a football guy
are you? Man?
Speaker 9 (47:37):
I becked? Yeah, Man, that's all that matters.
Speaker 3 (47:40):
That red line?
Speaker 4 (47:42):
Could you tell me?
Speaker 2 (47:43):
Because I asked that, meaning, yeah, exactly what the.
Speaker 4 (47:45):
Hell does that mean?
Speaker 6 (47:47):
It's a red line mentality?
Speaker 8 (47:48):
Either you have it or you're down't, and you clearly don't.
Speaker 17 (47:51):
I can't.
Speaker 4 (47:53):
You're right. It's one of those invisible lines that I
don't know what.
Speaker 2 (47:56):
The hell it means.
Speaker 8 (47:57):
It's kind of like momentum.
Speaker 2 (47:58):
Man. Yeah, good that.
Speaker 4 (48:00):
I definitely don't believe in it.
Speaker 17 (48:03):
All right, man, Well.
Speaker 2 (48:06):
We will, we will, Okay, football?
Speaker 4 (48:09):
You want me to talk about baseball? Yes, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (48:14):
Well, we have that Friday, Friday, we have Friday, we
have Thursday for tomorrow. Is gonna have Blake I think
in as a guest. Thursday, I have Jay John Friday.
Are you available Friday? Are you you're too busy being retired? Okay,
I'll let you know because Jay's not coming in. He's
going to Vegas. This is a weekend in Vegas, so
we can lose. He just I was, I was, yeah,
(48:35):
he's taking his pics to Vegas. Good luck, good luck.
So we'll see. So I'm gonna need him, need somebody
on Friday. I don't even know who's gonna show up Tomorrow. Blake,
Blake is in, uh, Thursday is Jay John? And then
Friday we'll see what happens. The football team. Oh, he's funny.
Speaker 5 (48:55):
I always forget about I always getting Nick and I
mean Vic and Nico confused.
Speaker 2 (48:59):
Oh no, no, there's noose. There's no confusion with either
of those guys that they go. I said, Okay, anybody
else want to call? Please do five two, o, four one, six,
seventy four, forty. We'll see what happens. I think they'll win,
not by thirty five. The spread it'll be like eighty
seven to you know, probably sixty sixty.
Speaker 4 (49:19):
Okay, So when when's last time NAU beat Arizona?
Speaker 2 (49:22):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (49:22):
Man, I mean I have the answer? Did you forty nine? No? No,
not even forty hold on that many years?
Speaker 2 (49:29):
But oh really? Uh?
Speaker 4 (49:31):
How many in a row?
Speaker 2 (49:32):
Does has he? They will? Oh god, you're talking? Is
it like remember Washington State when the old Washington State.
Speaker 5 (49:37):
Similar Actually not as much as that for thirty eight
thirty five?
Speaker 2 (49:42):
Wow?
Speaker 4 (49:42):
Good because WSU it was like forty one. Last time
NAU won nineteen sixty eight.
Speaker 2 (49:48):
Sixty eight because they don't play each other all every year?
Sixty eight? What was the score or was it played here?
Speaker 4 (49:55):
Doesn't say? I'm sure I can look it up at
the all time series. Arizona.
Speaker 2 (49:58):
Actually, DNA, you beat him twenty seven times Wow, must
have been before the war. Must have been before the war,
because after the war. In my books, just what I learned,
the he the oh man, this is sad. Well, oh god,
freddyinkes we're very good. And Fred was one of the
(50:22):
biggest stars back in the day. Richmond and Inky. Uh
they played in the NBA, right, And so it was
like post war they got the Jabal came back and
became the stars. That's when Arizona started to become really,
really good. So that's probably when Fred head coach. No, yeah, yeah,
he was the head coach at the time. His son
went to the war, came back and they were became
(50:43):
pretty good. So this is before probably.
Speaker 5 (50:45):
Yeah, I mean any of you probably you know, I
mean the school sizes, they probably were probably close to
being the same, you know up until what I don't.
Speaker 2 (50:54):
Know, Yeah, the fifties. Tell me what about football?
Speaker 4 (50:57):
Yeah, well there was that intine this game a couple
of years go.
Speaker 2 (51:00):
Yeah, do you see the stuff that that fish is.
Speaker 4 (51:03):
Going through right now saying how he's unhappy and.
Speaker 2 (51:07):
He wants to leave.
Speaker 4 (51:08):
Yeah, I guess he answered that yesterday.
Speaker 2 (51:10):
And however truthful he could be give a little maybe
two minute speech that. You know, anytime a team is
looking for an opening, my name is going to be
thrown out there.
Speaker 3 (51:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (51:20):
Yeah, And he's right because people journalists are kind of
not so much lazy. They're going to throw people under
the bus or throw names out there. And his name
is out there.
Speaker 5 (51:29):
Well also to you know, maybe his agent threw his
name out there. There's other ways that information gets spread
and maybe he didn't really say any or maybe he
wanted someone to speak up on his behalf. And you know,
whether or not he's unhappy in just a couple of years,
it's kind of hard to tell.
Speaker 2 (51:44):
But well that's the thing. Who do you believe, right,
I mean, who do you believe in?
Speaker 5 (51:47):
I mean we've seen stories his wife and daughter came
back to Tucson to finish high school.
Speaker 2 (51:50):
Let me see this day. You were in the business
for give me over the years. Yeah, thirty some thirty two.
I'm sure that you know that a cure to lie
to you directly.
Speaker 4 (52:03):
Of course, so me too.
Speaker 2 (52:07):
Yeah, and not the once you had the fact check it,
but you knew that they weren't telling you the entire truth,
which is you know what they do because they can't
really say this guy's injured or whatever. You know what
I'm saying.
Speaker 5 (52:19):
It happens, it's and it's it's sad when you kind
of feel like you got burned by somebody you you know,
you were had a relationship with or whatever, and next
thing you know, they either if you don't want to
use the word lying, or they were just you know,
misinformation came out.
Speaker 2 (52:31):
Sure, sure, wait a second.
Speaker 4 (52:33):
Didn't he just say he wasn't gonna leave Tucson?
Speaker 2 (52:35):
Yeah? Yeah, and he's gone. Well that's and that's one
of the bigger ones. I mean, yeah, what are you
gonna say? How do you answer that question?
Speaker 4 (52:41):
Yeah, I mean, it's part of the story.
Speaker 5 (52:42):
It is, it's part of the legacy that they leave,
they leave behind something and you know they weren't going
to leave, and now they are gonna leave.
Speaker 2 (52:48):
Here's the situation with Fish, at least according to me
or my thoughts, he's a mover, right, he's a lever.
He has been And don't you think if you're a leaver,
you're gonna leave at some point. May not be tomorrow,
may not be Tuesday, whenever, but eventually.
Speaker 4 (53:05):
Yeah, it's let's see how it plays out.
Speaker 5 (53:09):
I mean, there's nothing we can do about it at
this point, just kind of wait and see if there's
more news coming and if there's openings that he's you know,
gonna try to go for, and how that news gets out.
Sometimes it doesn't come out till the very last, very
last second.
Speaker 2 (53:22):
Yeah, with that, we gotta go. Thank you, Kensey, thank you, Dave.
See you guys tomorrow
